Here we are, halfway through the week, and the news has been pouring forth over the last few days. What else can there be to come over the next few? Here are some of the things we're talking about:
- Mark Webber was at Paul Ricard yesterday, testing out the new GP3 car. I hadn't realised there was going to be a feeder series into GP2, the feeder series to F1. Still, Webber had a go around the track and seemed to have a good time. I bet he can't wait to get back behind his F1 car instead, though.
- Yesterday we heard that Glock has signed up to Manor GP, and the story has it's own breakout thread with plenty of interesting thoughts about why he would make that decision. Still, at least he has a drive for next year, unlike many of the other drivers we are keeping our eye on.
- Elsewhere, Luca di Montezemolo has suggested that he doesn't want to head up FOTA for too much longer, as he has a regular day job to attend to as well. Does this mean that someone else will take his place? Who would that be? Or will FOTA start falling apart - if they aren't already?
That'll do it for now, enough to keep us going for another day. Let us know what you're up to and how you're getting through the week, and I'll see you in the comments.
PING
aaaaah yeah
jon 1, pinger 0.
aww. darn that jon
I'm off too. Night!
Night to everyone going.
night Chris
good night all who're bailing.
same
Awww.... once I get off work, everyone going to bed. Damn this eight hour time difference.
am still here. had a list of things to do tonight.
am about to get started...
I hate this - all the breaking news happens when I'm asleep! You can't expect me to stay up until 4 AM every night... :P
Summerton to USF1, BTW? Or at least that's what he wants to say... Someone here was saying he was pretty sure Summerton's en route to F1, was it Dan or someone else?
You should try Amy's technique of not sleeping. ;)
There will still be some of us around
Eight isn't so bad. You should try 11.
and what you get? no finns in F1... :-(
it's not the way to pay for such a loyalty...
:)
heikki will have a drive.
right?
Should do.
I had revision to do followed by an early night.
Only did some of the revision, enough to know that I've not forgotten all of it but not enough to feel comfortable. 2 weeks yet though, or 4 days until the refresher course. Looks like I'll be cramming instead of blogging on Thurs.
Early night will be in 20 mins or so.
When USF1 gets up and running there should be more Americans around to talk to.
mmmmmm..... probably as there are more new teams than experienced (cheap) drivers and each time will want one at least. but I wouldn't bet on it, we don't hear from him since Abu Dabhi?
right now, the available drives are at Renault, Virgin, Lotus, and Sauber. I think Renault will get Robert and Franck, Virgin will get Glock and di Grassi, Lotus will get Trulli and Kobayashi. He has a chance at Sauber (alongside Fisi). If that doesn't materialise... he's out of F1.
Alongside Glock?
we heard from him the sunday before last, at mercedes-benz live.
he seemed quite sad.
Joe's saying di Grassi is the favorite.
blimey.
davidson has to squeeze in somewhere too.
there's USF1 seats, but those look like going the way of Villeneuve and Summerton.
So Ant is out of a drive?
Oh snap.
i don't like his chances either right now. more likely to be lotus than virgin - carroll's name is still being mentioned for virgin, so that house is way too crowded for ant already. most likely scenario for ant is back to the 5Live booth.
hope not. i'm still suspicious of STR though.
keeping both '09 drivers makes no sense to me. neither were impressive.
He won't though.
villeneuve? really?
Interesting... and possible.
There are seats at USF1 still as well.
STR rarely replace their drivers at the start of the season - it usually happens midseason. ;)
I'm convinced Summerton is a 3rd driver. They aren't stupid enough to hire a rookie into a rookie team.
agreed
yup. Joe thinks so too.
if they don't get Summerton, my money for the 2nd seat is on de la Rosa.
Adam Carroll is a better driver than Ant for me
That would be a really bad idea.
He would be my first choice if I was Peter Windsor. Assuming I had the correct magnetic letters on the fridge door to spell his name
no f1 exprience
You just need two - JV.
Virgin already have a veteran though - they can afford to get a rookie.
Glock?
Close enough.
I think he has serious potential though and Ant does not
we need a list of who's where and who's available.
am now v.confused.
not sure 2 seasons makes him quite "veteran" yet
wah?
+1
I was just thinking the same.
Hello all.
Do you guys really think USF1 will actually happen?
They still have no monocoque design for their car.
yes, we do.
Toyota have one for sale :D
best place to compile a list? wiki?
for a new team that has 0 F1 experience, that's close enough.
Who says?
i thought Toyota rejected that idea already?
somebody had one in his blog... I don't remember who, though...
up-to-date including the exit of kimi?
Who's on first
What's on second
I don't know third base
Easy
OH! You meant F1 drivers. Sorry :D got really confused as to why you wanted a list of commenters!
Did they? I'm not up to date
heheheh!
:)
i THINK so. but i could be wrong.
Latest news is that their autoclave is not even big enough to make a floor.
And no Monocoque producing company has any contract to build them one.
wtf?
I think James Allen has one - but it has lots of question marks
If that's true that seems remarkably short-sighted of them
I was thinking of doing a list on my blog and posting a new one whenever someone gets signed. Was waiting for enough people to actually be signed.
Has there ever been such a confused off/silly season? It's amazing.
The latest news from Germany is that the BMW- Qadbak sale is not yet finished. The deal is appartently dependant on getting an entry in 2010.
So BMW is still paying all the bills and they are also funding the 2010 car-developement.
That could explain their stunning silence and lack of a driver lineup, as Virgin, Campos, and Lotus have begun to sign people. Still, there are chassis for sale out there (maybe Toyota, definitely Lola), but they need to decide what to do NOW. Either start up or sell out.
We should be able to knock together a list of who is available etc
I've never seen anything like it!
Honda-Brawn 2009 all over again? But I think BMW know they are close to getting a deal, and are therefore willing to pay a bit longer.
Nothing like it in a long time. I don't it'll ever be this confusing again for a while.
You get one like this every few years. This one is pretty epic though since there are 4 new teams and only something like 4 drivers signed up at the last race of the season and so many top drivers unsigned
http://www.racecarsdirect.com/listing/22520/Jaguar_R2_R3_F1_cars_for_sale.html
sorted
current 10 teams + 4 new teams - 2 manufacturers + FOTA breakaway delaying contract negotiations = EPIC CRAZY.
But Qadbak as a company is in some hot water with the Notts County affair.
I think that BMW is seriously worried about the sale of the F1 team.
I thought Qadbak already sorted out the Notts County debt?
I am starting a wiki page to sort out whih drivers go where
we haven't even resorted to i-spy yet.
ahh, thanking you.
i don't think we'll need to. this won't get sorted til december at the earliest, then the new cars start getting launched in january.
It has only been two and a half weeks!
http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKTRE5AG1AD20091118?sp=true
Brawn says negotiations are still ongoing. But surely if Kimi's decided to take a sabbatical, that's probably because the McLaren seat is no longer available?
Silly season + British GP news should easily fill out the rest of 2009. ;)
not necessarily. although highly likely.
we still don't know where rosberg will be for certain.
I'm sure I have some leave left. Where do I sign up for a drive :D
Late last night I did end up writing the bare bones of a blog post after all. I wasn't sure whether to post it but I just edited it and put it up anyway.
http://toomuchracing.blogspot.com/2009/11/mercedes-grand-prix.html
but not available why? Button, Rosberg, Nick (Heikki? mmm... not)
i say he's a lock for Mercedes. One McLaren seat, one Mercedes seat. Button will take one, Heidfeld will take the other.
agreed
So you think Rosberg, Button and Heidfeld are the drivers in the Mercedes powered cars of Merc GP (2 drivers) and McLaren (1 driver).
We just don't know where these three will land.
not convinced nick is a better option than heikki. at least kovi has a win to his name, and he's settled in at woking.
whatever happens, this is Nick's big break. he MUST win a race in 2010 now. he just has to.
Cheers Steven. We could put confirmed drivers in normal text and rumoured drivers in italic?
I would extend that to the end of january, until we KNOW which team has actually a car to launch...
Neither have set the world on fire. Heikki has a tenancy to go backwards in races even when he qualifies well.
i won't believe heidfeld has a drive until it's official.
mercedes snubbed him twice. why would they care now?
but is the guy still motivated enough? lewis has destroyed him inside-out. time to give lewis a new challenge.
why rock the boat? kovi can't do any worse next year.
why didn't they go for kimi, then?
it'll be nick because he's available, and he's cheap.
Lack of choice? Unless they spring a "young" driver on us.
Stay at Woking after effectively being ditched in readiness for Kimi?
constructors points.
But why did Nobby Haug mention him as a possible driver?
Just to play the games that McLaren are playing?
course. he has no better offer.
it's not like he didn't already know he was the no #2 man.
most improved team of 2009? they have the pick of the field.
i don't think McLaren gave him an offer, TBH.
did he? i thought it was a tip-off from woking?
what field? alonso, vettel, kubica out of the question. they didn't chase kimi. looks like they may lose button. what's left?
Latest news is that their autoclave is not even big enough to make a floor.
And no Monocoque producing company has any contract to build them one. {Comment #71}
Whoever ordered that autoclave will now have egg on his or her face... This is quite a setback for USF1.
Well, they have one pick of the drivers available, in competition with Mclaren. Still, i think the choice of Nico/Nick is crazy.
not as crazy as those Schumi rumors, though.
fair point.
?
If Jenson takes the McLaren, maybe he'd get a MercGP offer
I can't understand this either. Peter Windsor has been planning this for over 12 months, and well ahead of some of the other new teams. How can USF1 be so behind?
I'll leave you for half an hour. don't put 400 new comments! see you...
Schumi to MercGP alongside Rosberg? So goes the rumor.
The oven belongs to Carl Haas. He put it there.
That's just fan chatter though isn't it?
He's been planning it since 2006.
hehe. who dreamt that up?
so........oops?
Yup. None of the serious F1 folk think it's even possible. But those who believe it will do so until there's a denial sent out - and even then, they won't believe until 2 drivers are signed.
no prizes for figuring it out. ;)
madness.
Have I got all the confirmed signed drivers?
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Who+goes+where
not sure if it started in previously-mentioned leafy Adelaide suburb, but he had a hand in spreading it, for sure.
Never believe anything until it has been officially denied.
USF1 now has 40 employees.
They still don´t have a special coolroom to store the Carbon fibre.
So no construction can take place at their headquarters.
has the Button Photoshop helmet been brought up already? excellent work, that.
I thought they had always planned to outsource the construction..
I think just confirmed or it gets complicated
f1scoop ran it as an official... well scoop :D
no probs
Andy Blackmore, of spotters guides fame. Good chap.
I need sleep. Adios
Has Rosberg been confirmed at Brawn?
But why have an oven when you don´t even have the Carbon fibre?
will move Rosberg and Button out then, first. lemme edit - give me a minute.
We did earlier
Rosberg and Button aren't actually confirmed yet.
Senna has signed for Campos.
no.
Um, shouldn't they be doing crash testing about now?!
we did? i missed that memo.
s'what i was about to say. you cant have an official list andit not be...ya know..official
Maybe not
You need something to crash test. And they don´t have anything.
I was bound to miss someone
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Who+goes+where
Slightly updated.
Most teams seem to have done some crash testing
wow. we don't know much do we!
and Button is not confirmed at Mclaren yet
Earlier tonight someone suggested it
nope. not much at all.
There is still room for Di Resta !!
He will probably test next month in the rookies test.
Added him, Davidson, and Carroll to the available list.
Considering everyone seems to have decided that there are only a few seats available there is an awful lot we don't know
hehe. Who put Piquet on that list? Come on, own up...!
I did. Had to put him there because he claims to be talking to F1 teams.
I am losing optimism on that front. He is a Mercedes man so he could go in with Rosberg
what about - crash testing? ;-)
I think he and Paffett are scheduled to test for Brawn
Brawn could also test Conway, it is rumoured.
I seem to be missing a lot of these rumours.
where?
I expected good things from him in IndyCar. Turns out he's gained a reputation for being a crasher.
join the club
I have added Kimi and Paffett to the available list
Is Alex Yoong in the mix for Notus?
Do mark Kimi as on sabbatical.
There is a three day young driver test in December
Rookie test next month on Jerez.
Neel Jani is expected to test for Force India.
Nope. I think he's not really interested to go back except as a consultant.
aha i wondered who'd take that the wrong way. no i meant where is the rumour coming from
OK.
No but the other Malaysian is going to be their reserve. Can't remember his name
German magazines like Motorsport Aktuell.
Fairuz Fauzy.
I have still to be convinced of that
Mike Conway? Is being rumour to be testing for Brawn in a German magazine?
Well i never.
Sleep for me.
Adios
That's him
I am off to bed. This early night is only a little bit early but at least it isn't 2am again!
I am going to miss the quiz and won't be online at all until very late, if at all, unless I am when at work (unlikely with how busy I am this week).
Karun Chandok
Must sleep. Night all.
His manager has said so, so I'd take it at face value. It's not a bluff - if it were, it would be by negotiating with Mercedes.
No, he's Indian. ;)
Good night all those who are leaving
Night, Pat and Andy.
:D
Available unattached drivers:
Dan Brunell
add me too the list, ill have mu ards in may
I would like to start my own driver rumors.Seeing how insane the market is at the moment, I want see if it gets any play.
#GMM: In a shock move, American amateur racing driver Dan Brunell will take roll of lead driver for USF1 after he found Scott Speed's old super license, scratched Scott name out and put his own.
Sounds plausible
You´re right.
But he should also be on the available drivers list. He has friends in very high places you know.
Get it on the list. :D
Schumi to MercGP alongside Rosberg? So goes the rumor. {Comment #128}
Sounds like someone on a DIY Rumour Mill exercise...
Added
Thanks Steven, would do it myself but can´t find my password quickly.
I had an unexpected F1 conversation with my new supervisor at placement yesterday (the old one is on holiday, hence my recall) due to the Mercedes/Brawn news. I think he must be a casual fan - he knew what Force India was but spent 10 minutes looking up Vijay Mallya because he'd never heard of him before...
Should someone like Alexander Rossi be on the list?
He´ll test a BMW next month.
bmw f1?
are testing?
Yes
could be, i guess.
They are giving tests to two young drivers that they promised a shot.
Valentino Rossi is getting another run in a Ferrari too
Rossi and Guttierez won these test in the FBMW series.
Sauber?
yes. they said they'd complete their young driver commitments before leaving. helps sauber too.
who's paying for that then?
the day get weirder.
BMW
BMW. Sale of the team is not final yet.
Another one for the list:
Jules Bianchi.
Didn't Wurz rule out a return to F1? I thought I read that somewhere - can't remember where though.
No idea
Also, Valentino Rossi has signed with Yamaha for next year. He won't be in F1. His tests are just playing around.
just pr generating guff then.
He has a Yamaha contract for 2010 but after that he is a free agent
Do you have Vitali Petrov?
#isnothere
Not necessarily. He only has one year left on his contract so this could be the final decision on whether he switches to F1 or not
He is on the list person who is not here
ferrari no longer have space.
To where? Replace Massa? I very much doubt that, after the disaster of the replacement drivers this year.
When does Massa's contract expire?
2010.
Another driver I could see as test and reserve driver:
Bertrand Baguette.
All MotoGP manufacturers are courting him for 2011.
So he could in thery at least be replaced by Rossi.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Ferrari test is part of the plan to get Rossi on a Ducati in 2011
Added
jon mentioned him earlier. if he comes to f1 he needs a pseudonym.
I suspect it is. But only if Fiat want to move to Ducati too. MotoGP Silly Season next year will be epic. I think it'll be Rossi to Ducati, Lorenzo to Honda, Pedrosa to Yamaha.
That's more likely. There is no way he will drive a Ferrari in F1.
i don't believe that for a second.
means nothing to me :)
Renault need a driver who uses his loaf.
Croissant? Or not. It's a bit hard to spell
Lorenzo is going to leave Yamaha?
Ducati is an Italian motor bike manufacturer who run in the same red colour as a certain F1 team
Half his engineering team moved to Honda, according to motomatters.com. They're courting Lorenzo.
And are also Marlboro-sponsored.
Stoner will either move to Yamaha or stay with Ducati, I suspect.
ahh. makes sense.
I don't know much about bikes, but isn't Stoner at Ducati? Rossi + Stoner would be a REALLY good team, yes?
Rossi would crush Stoner like a bug.
I thought he was Yamaha's future
No that´ll be Ben Spies.
Not on a Ducatti. Stoner is the only person (apart from Bayliss) to get that bike to work
Italy is drooling at the prospect. Yamaha will have to choose between Lorenzo and Rossi, I suspect. Rossi will sell many, many bikes for the last team he races for before retirement, so it'll be a very difficult decision for Yamaha, considering Lorenzo might be the best rider out there after Rossi retires.
Oh YEAH, him!
he is. actually the words of Rossi were something close to 'him or me'...
hi, I'm back at home
Stoner is Ducati. Rossi is at Yamaha but he is getting sick of Lorenzo using all his set ups and data to then give him trouble. At the last race of the season Rossi said Yamaha have to choose between him or Lorenzo or he will go to Ducati.
He has hardly done a race yet
Rossi would develop the Ducati with his crew to suit him!
leo's having more skype issues than us right now (re-runs).
lost x3 callers and has no-one to do a show with.
and most probably Rossi is able to do it also...
If Rossi goes there he will take Gerry Burgess and his crew. They took a yamaha that had never looked like winning and won the first race of their first season and won the championship. Imagine what they could do with the Ducati
Perhaps, if Jeremy Burgess goes with him. Stoner has a big lead in development of that bike. Just look at how well Nicky Haden has gone.
He'll be a safe teammate for either Rossi or Lorenzo. I see one of them leaving. If it's Rossi, it's for Ducati with Stoner. If it's Lorenzo, it's for Honda, with Pedrosa going to Ducati.
You mean skypasaurus failed. Should have used eeepcs.
I know he has had lots of problems with interference in recent shows and people are always being told to unplug and plug in their mics again
poor leo.
Of course I say safe, I mean very dangerous. :D But Rossi or Lorenzo would be OK with Spies as a teammate.
But Rossi is soo good in mind games. Stoner wouln´t know what hit him.
Look at Laguna last year.
keeps hanging up on callers. i may have to wait until they edit this one.
What show is it?
macbreakweekly.
Can't argue with that.
There is just something about that Ducati that nobody else can come to grips with.
am off to sleeps now. don't know if this was plugged earlier but:

later all.
Night Mr C.
So all his Windows machines are taking down the Apple show
night mr.c
Night Mr C
true!
I think it´s the super advanced electronics system. Stoner knows how to use it and no-one else can.
it's amazing how we shifted from F1 silly season to MotoGP silly season seamlessly in less than 10 comments. :P
BTW, that list of drivers looks really scary. it will be a looong off season...
We are into next season's Moto GP silly season.
yes, the prospect of two massive silly seasons in the same year is something scary. and they would divide the attention from the press, so it will be pointless.
good thing that doesn't fully get into gear until next summer. i think next year's F1 silly season will be relatively quiet, except for where Kimi and Massa will go.
#GMM Rossi switches with Massa. Kimi starts a new career in the rally-raid (actually, that's not bad...)
Its sunny and i am here!:D
Hello Nick. :D
Morning everyone... Seems to be a lot of comments in the Kimi thread!
You think? :D
once again I have a mysterious 'there is a package for you at the post office' card when I'm not expecting anything. WHAT COULD IT BE?
a Jenson Button kit from McLaren? a thank you note from Kimi Raikkonen?
one of those would be acceptable. one of those would not. I'll let you solve the puzzle :D
you'd love the Button kit from McLaren, wouldn't you? :D :D :D
love to set it on fire you mean :D
no, love to wear or frame on your wall! :D :D :D and it would have Jenson's autograph too, saying, "Hi Amy, we'll be best friends FOREVER!" :D
so meeeeeeean.
so Ross is telling Jenson that best for him would be to stay put. but that would probably also be the best for Ross, won't it ?
HAHAHA! It might be a note from Jenson, "Amy, you'll get a special guided tour of the McLaren garage from me in Australia!" :D
Yup - but that's not new. Ross is telling Jenson it's better for him to stay and take his financial terms and be a safe #1. Jenson doesn't want those terms, it seems. Looks like he wants more.
bye bye gift from Heikki, the last Finn standing (just) in F1 ?
Of course it would be best for Ross - I am a fan of Nick but really he has not got the attraction that Jenson has.
in all seriousness, the only thing I can think of that normally turns up this time each year is my Aus GP tickets, but from internet-trawling it doesn't look like anyone else got those today so it must be something else.
what I mean is that Ross may be saying that best for Jenson is to stay while in fact it would be best for Brawn/Merc if Jenson stays ...
Perhaps some sort of confirmation from any of the other GPs you're going to?
Mmm... But best only in terms of what they're offering him.
only one that is booked is Spa and all the confirmation headed to Mr Clapper.
You are going to support a team and hate both the drivers? :D
Maybe something NOT F1-related?
Nah, she's fine with Lewis.
Aus open tickets?
they were e-tickets, already got them :D
not hatred, intense dislike of one, and indifference toward the other :D
doh!
box of kiwis? ;)
I don't get non F1 packages! Not unless I have ordered something online, and I haven't at all so I'm so confused. I have 24 hours until I find out!
I think your warming to him ;)
maybe its a confused kindle book :P
Heh. Amy rooting for Lewis - that'll be the day...
Morning.
Why do they need to make one big enough for a floor when they are making toasters?
USF1 makes toasters?
they have 70,000 of them :-)
I promise you will all be the first to know :D
:D
Crumbs...
:P
I have sent a slightly more stern email to Singapore to say 'it's been a week since I contacted you regarding making a booking and not replying to your emails doesn't probably get you much business. I am annoyed at you.' in not quite so many words.
they won't be selling any tickets till Feb or March, as usual ...
not for the race, for my accommodation.
oh, OK, that is different story :-) I received mine yesterday, for early Dec :-)
Did you use the hashtag +footstomp ?
:D
how about the headping ?
last time I booked through the website but the booking form only has drop down options for 2008 and 2009. Website fail. And apparently, replying to emails fail. I guess that's what you get if you go cheap :D
Call them. More likely to work. Speaking from experience. ;)
That's like Malaysian but with stronger curry :P
or just show up and tell - " Here I am " :-)
I do not trust calling Singapore. I called them in 2008 to change the address they were mailing my race tickets to, and the guy on the phone assured me he had updated it, and then months later they turned up at the old address. Luckily the new people living there managed to get them to me.
Too old - he will go to do rallies or Le Mans I think.
Call. Then ask them to send email confirmation. ;)
:D
what on earth happened to that Singapore efficiency ?
Do they have twitter? :D
that would be so much easier. I hate calling people. I don't see why I should ever have to ring anyone, ever. That is why I have the internet.
Singlish barrier. True story. ;)
+sameperson
not a fan of human connection, then? ;)
its not #MFC enough :D
Well it's another day I suppose...
I take it back...
+toomanyhoursintheday
I need sleep! it isnt lunchtime!
Moooorning
Hello Nick. You appear to be still alive :)
its too early!
Just... i have to go with a frend for lunch though...
KFC?
How about a nice Italian...
Fried or grilled?....
It's 8am and you're wanting me to think about KFC.....?
Fried is all they do here...
Its a food court so other options exist...
I dont want to either... its peer pressure!
I would say you're better off with almost anything else! KFC stinks.
Where's Amy when you need her...?
Hahahah #sorryamy?
:D
I really wonder about this whole play. Ross has built his reputation on not having 2 "stars". He has one star and one setup guy. He's been forced into Rosberg (who isn't a setup guy). So perhaps it's better for him to have Nick as setup guy?
Yup, I see Nick as the setup guy here, especially if this partnership has a Year 2 in it.
Morning all.
Morning, Christine. :)
How is everyone this morning?
Morning.
From Phil Huff at RealBrawnGP:
So either McLaren are OK with the risk they'll end up with Heidfeld, or Brawn/Merc is being given the go-around by Button and co...
just realized that this first time in few seasons that the off-season is no longer about "where will Alonso go" :-) Button's turn this year :-)
only because that was the question during the actual season - and it's already been answered. ;)
Stuart, based on your tweet, you might have been watching too much Grease... :D
Update! I made an error. 'Twas Sabrina, not Sinitta.

interesting analysis - even if the article has no title :-)
Oh no! What madness is this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fmmt_KfjCSo
Morning everyone
tired and it looks like a swimming pool outside so I am enjoying my duvet :)
Silly weather kept waking me up.
Mmmmmm duvet :)
I love this angle:
Made me laugh too. Jenson to McLaren is career suicide because the car is built the way Lewis likes it (ie 'pointy'). As we've seen throughout this year, Jenson underperforms when the car isn't stable. He will get his backside well and truly kicked.
I would write a blog post, but I have a feature about an Aston Martin factory to sub.
For reference, I added the year to the new Who Goes Where wiki page: http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Who+goes+where+-+2010
I like having actual not-a-joke information on the wiki!
Christine clicking that link has made my virus checker go mental. It's popping up with all the things it's blocked. Not sure if it's oversensitive or is there's something up with the wiki?
Erm, the wiki is fine for me. Anyone else?
I can see the page. It's probably just an advert it doesn't approve of to be honest....
any rumours where Rubber Goat may end up ? he is way too down the order among the unattached :-)
Not sure yet, but it would be good if he partnered LewHam, cos we know he is a fan, and they would be bound to get on :)
oh yes, McLaren, the team with Kiwi roots :-)
Perfect!
Autosport's Top 10 Drivers of 2009

6. Fernando Alonso
5. Robert Kubica
4. Mark Webber
3. Sebastian Vettel
2. Jenson Button
1. Lewis Hamilton
Wow. Can you say controversial? I wouldn't put Hamilton any higher than 3rd. Barrichello only 9th? He deserves a Top 5.
I agree with Hamilton being top. He extracted the most he could from machinery all season long.
Bartley needs a drive next year!
Sadly i suspect he will have to wait until Bob gets sacked :(
Not Seb is at Toro Rosso no?
Liegate and a very poor 1st half of the season takes him down a couple of notches for me. Could've done better in Monaco and Malaysia too.
Jaime? Not yet confirmed.
They should clear out the office if the people they employ are going to be that silly...
GMM could probably do a better job!
I am actually OK with most of it - only the bits about Rubens and Lewis bother me.
Should Kubica be that high? I don't remember seeing him do anything?
Heh. I have him down as having a drive. :)
Kubica fifth and Mark fourth but Kimi only eighth and Rubens ninth - like to know what substances they have been on? Vettel third without a memorable overtake? Lewis' car was not that bad either so he should go about third.
Kubica??
Good question.
I think we're better off waiting for the Autocourse top 10. Much more definitive for me.
He didn't he was out-qualified and out-ointed by his team mate. He was most memorable for his complaining.
Wheres raikkonen? why is massa and nando ahead of him... did kubica have that great a year?
What happened to autosport being a reasonable, non sensationalist publication?
*awaits GOSSIP COLUMN
I'd have Buemi in there somewhere as well. I think he's done well in the Toro Rosso.
Hmm I see it more like:
10. Robert Kubica
9. Nico Rosberg
8. Kimi Raikkonen
7. Felipe Massa
6. Fernando Alonso
5. Mark Webber
4. Sebastian Vettel
3. Lewis Hamilton
2. Rubens Barrichello
1. Jenson Button
Gosh, I think that's a bit over the top. It's just a column, and therefore bound to be opinion only.
Swap Barrichello and Vettel, move Alonso down 2 spots, and you have my top 10.
Good first half, average second half to the season. He almost threw away his lead and as for qualifying? Hmm... Top three perhaps, not number one for me.
True... but as i see it that has only been done to provoke a reaction...
Regardless - he won the title; he put together a better season than anyone else.
Just because he won the title doesn't necessarily make him the best overall driver though?
Reverse that and you basically have Lewis' season?
I think it does. Also, see Alison's answer.
Would put Alonso ahead of Mark. Replace Kubica with either Jarno or Timo.
In which case, all end of season rankings should just replicate the drivers' championship order?
Depends on the reasoning. If it's just a list then yes, if there are sound arguments for the order, then perhaps not. I can't find anything on their site, but I am quite useless.
It means he is the best of the 4 drivers who could have won though i guess?
For me, winning the title makes you #1 automatically. The rest is subject to other factors.
Not really threw it away he always had buffer of around 14 points most of the season. If it had been the other way around and he scored all his victories in the last seven races there would be no question he would be number 1. He also made the fewest mistakes.
you can't win if you don't put yourself in a position to win...
Agreed.
Boooooooooo.
9th?! 9th!!
Slightly baffled by this. Seriously. Remember the major factor of whether you'll win or lose in F1 is the car you're sat in?
Exactly. *runs and hides*
Yes. Took that into consideration too.
Moenin all
I agree with that, i'd say he was the most consistant and lucky driver.
As for the list, im always dubious of lists that say "top drivers" or "the best drivers", everyone has a different definition of "top" or "best", i could say that schuey is the "best" all time f1 driver ever, (im not but you get my point)
Hehehe!
I am interested that Lewis driving a better car than Kimi scored only one point more was position 1 and Kimi positioned 8!
hehehe... please pass on my regards to the author!
It wasn't always a better car though.
because its not always about the points
oh but it is it decides who is the champion! Anyway Kimi's car was fairly rubbish Lewis car was for 2/3rd of the season competitive.
It's not a list to decide the champion though, that's already been done.
Will do so tomorrow. Who is he, anyway?
♥
The Ferrari was atrocious - Luca and Fisi are simply not that bad. It had one redeeming featured awesome grunt off the start line when the KERS worked. I grant Silverstone would have been an exception where the Macca was terrible.
@NobleF1 - The Macau paddock was pretty quiet today. Not helped by chilly wind. It's the coldest GP it's been here since 1987 apparently
well, as I said, it is 10-15 degrees cooler than it should be this time of the year ...
so you mean at a track like spa? y'know when kimi won the race.
Luca and Fisi's results had nothing to do with the car, it was all to do with no testing what so ever
I thought the problem was that it was a tricky car to learn, which meant Kimi already had plenty of experience.
It was 100% that, hense why Kimi won at spa
I am saying points are important but you can swing things I simply do not think Vettel was the second best driver of the season. It must influence in a significant way. One point difference separates 1st from 8th place - that's rubbish.
Massa seemed to have got up to some speed - was not embarrassingly slow!
So what's the temperature over there at the moment then?
What?! I am so confused. Massa and Kimi tested before the season!!?
He'd also been in the car for ages though?
He got up to some speed in the early part of the season despite the Ferrari being a dog of car (not as bad as say Renault and BMW) but woorse than the McLaren.
Thinking it over I would rate Kimi's year above Lewis! It was really rather horrible.
Nonononono. He had experience of the car, so that if it had go better whilst he was racing he would have stayed with it and got better results too.
In his last 5 races massa got 6,4,6,4,3. i'd say thats pretty good for 'a dog of a car'
tis just possible you are underestimating how good Massa is.
Christine... Did you remember to launch wave today?
i think massa is great, hense 2008 was great for him. but im not talking about massa, you said that fisi and badoer prove that it was a "dog of a car", what im saying is that it proves that the ferrari was hard to learn.
Oooh. Um. Yes. (read: have now.)
my point is Massa got to grips with it fairly early in the season to get some points - so not that difficult to learn.
but he also had 1000's of km of testing before the season began. you can never have too much seat time
Surely it is impossible to compare Massa's months and months behind the wheel of the car and Badoer's x2 races?
exactly
!!!!!
formula 1 2009 has just been dispatched, and will be here tomorrow! :o
is this the game you were really excited about and then got all dissapointed about?
(not to like, reign on your parade or anything)
I'm not disappointed at the game, I'm disappointed at the lack of online racing yeah but I still want the thing!!!
can we sign you up for a guest post? :)
wooooop then
I'll happily write something up tomorrow evening after playing it for a ridiculous amount of time, sure :P
;)
is there a "design your own f1 livery" mode in this game?
if there is, i'd give it a few hours before you see a post. ;)
That would be the best F1 mode in the history of modes, ever
i expect nothing less :)
Badoer was the "test" driver with hindsight it might have been better to have let him continue - but 1.5 sec slower tha Jaimme - not very impressive.
yes he was the "test" driver, but he hasnt tested much if not at all this year, and he hadnt raced for something like 11 years
I agree Badoer was worse than useless, but not compared to Massa. Compared to Fisi.
Maybe Tim is just awesome; Go Tim, beating Luca badoer!!
Although thats like beating a tortoise in a morathon.
*marathon, must wake up
No idea... but i am pleasently suprised Badoer mised out on the coverted number 10 slot...
from 5livef1:
Holly and Producer Jas at Brawn GP at the moment. Jenson doing our F1 review of the year! Should be fun...
!
If it was a difficult car to learn then possibly let Badoer more time to get used to it. Fisi was only slightly more on the target.
:)
this may have been mentioned already, but i love the idea of "boss haug".
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/11/18/2007/
when you have a minute, lukeh.
:)
that is just ASKING for it.
I wonder what his job will be next year?
So 2011 sill season... Kimi to RBR... Webber to???? Mercedees? Mclaren?
Webber? You might mean Vettel... Contract buyout, I'm guessing.
Why sign a longer deal then? a buyout will just cost him money?
job security, i'd think. if someone really wants him, they can buy him out.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/haug-jpg
Whoops, how did that happen
:D :P ;)
you have to comment that on joe's site!
One team can only take so much sulking when things don't go your way :)
If you can find a picture of Wolfgang Schattling, he would make an excellent Roscoe P Coltrane...
Hehehe, done :)
BBC reporting Button has signed with McLaren
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8363892.stm
*waits for them to quote Alan Henry*
Perhaps better get the breakout ready, just in case?
Would be ironic though, if Jenson is at Brackley today as 5Live said.
he's currently at the brawn factory. i can't believe they'll announce while he's still there?
Good point...
maybe they'll wait for him to leave? ;)
they just need to issue a press statement anyhow.
agreed. i think the BBC want to get ahead after they were behind on the Kimi story.
:)
Sorry +threadfail
I wonder if jenson just told jason and holly?
might well have.
oooops. me too
Ooooh. Excellent point.
Can we put together a press release pdf with Mclaren logo at the top? See how quickly they pick it up? :D
Maybe he's saying his goodbyes and thank yous to the people there before the announcement?
Possibly :(
BBC Fail?
Now renamed Mercedes Grand Prix, the team have already signed the German Nico Rosberg as one of their drivers.
No they haven't.n Not officially, at least.
Mclarens line up is tastier than Ferrari's now.
Mercedes... who are they?
hehe, does it speak volumes?
Brawn!! I keep calling them Brawn and not Mercedes... doh
Unless it'll be confirmed today as well? It's the domino effect.
I'd love to know who the BBC's sources are.
To be fair, if they said there was uncertinty over who would drive for them it would be more of a fail at this point ;)
Nah, still think Ferrari's is tastier. That said, I think we'll be disappointed with both intra-team rivalries. It'll end up becoming Alonso v Hamilton for the title.
Best of the rest in 2010, title in 2011, I say, but probably not with Nico or Nick.
All the former world champions in F1 next season will be sponsored by santander...
Good point!
Seriously, are we going to get a day WITHOUT f1 news? Please?!
2 each for Ferrari and McLaren. Alonso counts for double
Brawncedes?
An ad on the bbc site is telling me i can get 20% discount on grandstand tickets for bahrain untill the end of the month...
with this news... im tempted...
I look forward to them being dominated by McLaren. Because Martin tried to be nice and keep Mr Brawn on the grid and then Mercedes said 'ooh thanks Martin, we're going to ditch you now' and I don't think that's very cricket.
I know the feeling. I'm starting to get fed up with F1.
But.. but.. but...
*shakes fist at mercedes*
I feel the same... especially as i think they could have paid button, they just wanted to make it look like they were in charge...
It's okay, you can talk about pandas with me instead.
This would be +worstdayever
I know the feeling.
I've taken up knitting to pass the time. I didn't know what I was doing when I started, but now I seem to have a sweater the size of Europe. I think it may have become sentient, and have designs on conquering America.
Woohoo! And raindbows? Don't forget rainbows. If they start to feel left out they get a bit blue :(
Panda's are awesome. I have this arcade game on my xbox where my slogan is a panda :)
it was my Thursday today! Does this mean I can avoid actual Thursday by saying its Friday?
:)
I'm going to try and make the "game" I have to make for this assignment based on F1. with one of the teams being the Prancing Panda's ;)
Absolutely.
I am very lucky this week as I have the next two days off which means today is my Friday. No Thursday Rules!
Brilliant!
Maybe Mclaren got jenson because they want to be big in japan?
I think Joe has announced the US F1 drivers: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/11/18/usf1-drivers/
Awesome!
I suppose rainbows as well, but last time they caused quite the controversy.
That's good :)
I'd like that I think!
All that says is that they might use Sommerton in the future but not in 2010?
Was zippy causing trouble?
I agree with that
Did they? I don't remember.
Just baked bread, rolling fields of fresh cut grass and freshly brewed red bull :)
lucky girl! Any good reason? I have Friday off because its Pearl Jam day. I have waited 10+ years for this moment, it needs to be here now!
you are forgetting that mclaren repeatedly blocked mercedes advances and attention.
and then after winning the wdc with the best engine on the grid, twisted the knife and released a rival road car.
not forgetting, just conveniently ignoring #bias :D
I needs to use up my holiday.
We seem to have missed out on that whole "going away" business this year.
Mercedees chose AMG over mclaren
+theystartedit
bloody f1.
I think we may or may not have argued over which colours should and should not be allowed in the rainbow. It was a tense few moments.
uberShooo?
I have that same problem!
Ah yes! That's right.
#letsnotgothere
only after mclaren chose to sell shares to dubai people and not to mercedes people.
#mclarenstartedit
was white allowed in?
Morning all (just about) :P
Wasnt it before they sold on to them?
(psst...bahrain ;) )
must be time to get married again.
don't believe so.
I think so!
wha?
+OhNoTheyDidint!
+pantomimeF1
heheeehehehehe
Gotta head off to get some stuff done, by the tiem I come back I expect Villeneuve to be with Lotus, Ross Brawn to change his mind and scribble his name over the Mercedes logo and for Luca badoer to be BBC F1's driver of the year
Byee!
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/11/18/2007/#comment-6693
:D
I concour
adios
noooooooooo... dubai is sexy, bahrain....not so much
eheheheheheh
I have something to cheer you all up:
Accoring to Motorsport Magazin Ralf asked Eddie Jordan to ask Sauber (team not person) if he (Ralf) can drive for them.
either way. not mercedes, hence the upset.
i blame ron.
awwwwwwwwww
Jon, send Eddie your poster.
I am not here *runs*
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
:D
:D
:D
:D
:D
Dubai isn't sexy, be sexy and you'll be arrested!
BBC seems to think it'll be confirmed today:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8363892.stm
Have been discussing it for 30 minutes or so now. ;)
I just got here!
more button?
Welcome to the wonderful world of F1 news. :D
i mean... not the driver...
nooooooo!
:D brilliant! :D
I use the LCLT when on my laptop.
filter?
Don't use it.
Can we organise an Internet outage in Kent for Lou please. And whatever mobile network she's on, just to be safe
CNN reporting Button signing for McLaren
Rehashed BBC story. Not a second source yet.
she is in london but i dont think ill text her until we get some proper confirmation. Bbc just gives us nothing official yet.
Does anyone trust BBC F1 any more?
But I would be surprised if CNN didn't do their own checking.
If this turns out to be wrong, Benson will have much egg on his face...
They are using GMM so no.
I trust it more than ITVpop-up-pop-up-pop-up-pop-upF1.
But in the real F1 world, theres only one trusted source, SPC.
Just had a great conversation over lunch with an Indian, a Belgian and a guy from Trinidad about Button and Raikkonen :D
Keep hearing references to Rosberg & Mercedes GP but this isn't official either, is it?
Might be announced today too, I suspect.
No
Do share. :)
Nooo, we're not a source. But we are a relatively good place to try and work out which the real sources are.
Firefox & AdBlock Plus
Nah, let's just keep publishing rumoured stories as fact
What has happened in a way I predicted on my blog way back on October 14 when I said the line up for Macca would be...
"Conclusion: the most obvious choice is Kimi but delving deeper and doubts emerge about his compatibility. Both Nick and Timo should be considered if the decision not to renew Heikki’s contract is taken. If negotiations fail at the Brawn camp Jenson could be a surprise option."
http://f1centric.wordpress.com/2009/10/14/2010-whos-looking-with-both-feet-forward/
They could get another week out of this - it's free publicity for McLaren and Merc - in fact, they'll probably remerge next week and it was all a PR stunt ;-)
Hmmm. Good job there, Rich.
ITVF1 & Blocked sites list :)
This will most likely be announced when they have their second driver.
Even better
McLaren have had a weird year: They lost Santander to Ferrari but kept them. They lost Mercedes to Brawn but then kept them. Sure Button isn't going to drive for both teams?
:D
Not so good for Brawn - I said the following...
"Conclusion: Brawn hold the ace card while Nico and Jenson are clearly obvious choices, Jenson could elect to find a better offer elsewhere and Rubens is plan B. They have no need to consider other drivers."
In Summary:
Guy from Trinidad: Button should take the money and go to McLaren as he has earnt it. Not a big Kimi fan but a Ferrari fan.
Guy from Belgium: Hates Kimi and Alonso, thinks the drivers are all similar and the car was the star in 2009.
Guy from India: Schumacher fan but says a German guy on the rig who is a big Ferrari fan convinced him to dislike Alonso. Thinks Button ins stupid to go to McLaren.
Mmmm. We shall see.
SPC is a 'sink' rather than a source...
So a majority think Button should go to McLaren? Very interesting insight. I wonder how many % of F1 fans want him to go there...
In summary of the summary, when asked about Button and Raikkonen 2 out of 3 fans hate Alonso.
Yeah, that was interesting. Apparently on one of our rigs, there are loads of defecting Ferrari fans because 'they put up with Schumacher, but they can't stand Alonso'. That must be the rig that likes Lewis then...
from the Team McLaren forum I hypothesise that 2% of McLaren fans want him to go there.
I suspect the composition of that forum is about to change - significantly.
its hard to take it seriously, there is 3 or 4 members who post all the time and seem to bully anyone new. I never post, and I barely even go there to read it. It used to be great but now it's just rubbish.
Sounds just like the private forum me and Pat used to frequent!
SPC FTW! :D
I wonder how partisan the BBC will be with an all British driver line up at McLaren next year? Thankfully it's not ITV, but still...
That many? I guess those are rabid Lewis fans who don't care who is in the other seat.
there was 3 pages of people saying how much they wanted Kimi and there is one post under the title 'welcome jenson' that says 'Pretty pleased with the end result'
One person. :D
Reality is wrong. Everyone knows Kimi should be in that seat
It's so nice of Kimi to come back in 2011 when I'll only be at one race.
You are planning your 2011 season? How organised are you? What about 2012?
I am working on the assumption I will make it to the race that is 4km down the road but won't have the cash left after 2010 to make it anywhere else.
Not everyone - I think it would have been a bit of a disaster.
You won't go home from Europe
BBC TV now reporting Button to McLaren.
I have return tickets!
I buy lottery tickets but it doesn't mean I am win every week
And unsurprisingly, JA's site is down. Again.
Every time there is traffic...
not for me
I won't believe it until Autosport confirms it on their site.
or me
Autosport now on the Button-McLaren situation: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80195
No name attributed to the article. Just an observation.
Up again. It'll be rough going for a while.
Finnish internet is really good. Even gets to sites that are down
On a non-F1 realated thing (i'm ignoring F1) LCLT looks really good with the new sidepodcast layout. One thing though there are no bullet point in the post content.
the thought of moving all my life to another country again fills me with tiredness. Maybe one day, but not next year :D
It filled me with stress, not tiredness!
even if it's finland? kimi will be there more often now, i suspect. :D
Someone has made toast for lunch. I am now hungry.
Toast: Smells great, often not so great to eat!
I want some Marmite on toast now.
now that must be worth a break-out thread?
At least that looks like good news
very much so.
Definitely
christine, are you too hungry to breakout?
Will do it now.
thankingya.
Sorry, I just had to link to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q99GdBdX4u4 :-D
i LOVE that song.
Breakout! Do do do, do be do...
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2009/11/18/spa-circuit-cleared-for-2010-grand-prix/
and comments moved too.
which reminds me. i have a glock thread to clean up.
Did someone say BREAKOU-oh, done that *gag* already.
umm, christine...
:D :D
I haz trophy
ooh wow!
there must be a large selection of applicable videos...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCxS0XE56nM
NICE! w00t!
SPEECH!
yeyy! congrats. is that C word your surname? if so you have the coolest surname ever
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2009/11/18/jenson-button-joins-mclaren-for-2010/
no. It's my team's name
where do i begin to move the comments?
Bah. When that pinger wakes up, it really wakes up, doesn't it?
Only from the twitter thing.
And a few words in your own language to cap it off!
the moment the Beeb put out the original article, I guess.
tis still awesome :D
At last, we have reclaimed the daily. Where's James?
done.
I don't know what to say.
I won, you didn't. Ällerbätsch
:)
Hi all
I've been away for awhile (relationship breakdown)...
Need cheering up and hearing that two British drivers at McLaren is making me smile!
I'm here. doing my Managing Performance assignment. very dull :)
Pandas and rolling meadows and bunny rabbits and stuff!
Yay for this happy place where Finland reigns supreme and there is no such thing as British world champions :D
Absolutely!
Gooo Heikki!
Aww. Don't hate on Mansell, Stewart, Clark, and company! ;)
I might have to listen to the Heikki song.
Oh yeah I forgot to add what's happening to Heikki?
Bless him, I do hope he stays in F1, I liked him alot, although screamed at screen in frustration a few times! (Auz, Malaysia, Monza)
tempting. but i have another 1000 words to write. the sooner i do the sooner i make prancing panda's ;)
Stuart C is possibly the funniest Tweet ever: http://twitter.com/teamSCboard/status/5825441057
:-D :-D :-D
YAY!
And Finnish
Very naughty, I know, but...
Right. Must buy milk (or else there'll be no tea this afternoon) and pay in a chequey-weque
The consequence, of all this waiting in front of computer screen for various announcements, is a lot of tidying is being done. I can see the surface of my desk again. Yay.
anyone know if in F1:2010 (the game) the safety car will make a return?
News on Donington
Donington Park staff in meetings about circuit's financial situation
I sincerely hope this is good news.
Mr C, put my Donington article link in the wrong thread. :( Do move it over when you can?
Done.
Thanks you! :D
Right, I had best be off to bed now that all the news has died down somewhat. I am sure something else will happen while I am sleeping! The lesson is, never sleep.
Night Amy.
Goodnight
I think Renault should announce Franck now. That would totally take away McLaren's thunder.
Can we have a breather first?
No!!
No more announcements, Franck next week
He should have gone to McLaren ;-)
Or, we could get it all out the way and have the rest of the off-season to actually relax.
....true.
That would be interesting
British GP yet to be settled, as is the fate of Quadbike, and plenty other seats.
Long way to go yet...
At the very least that might kill off GMM
VERY interesting.
In all seriousness, how realistic are Franck's chances of getting the Renault seat alongside Kub?
bad Journeyer. :P
agreed.
am okay with it though. one announcement per day suits me fine. still not going on holiday though.
I honestly, genuinely think he is the favorite right now. Better than 50-50 chance.
teehee. :D
Well I was only joking, and people keep telling me otherwise, but I am NOT getting my hopes up.
Well, Jenson was 99% certain to stay at Brawn... so anything could happen!
So better chance than, say, Heikki?
i think we need a confirmation of what renault's plans are first.
Well he has been talking to them, so that's a good thing.
On the next aside with Joe we should ask him if he can go into the paddock and tell everyone to just calm down a bit with the craziness ;)
If Renault are indeed intending to rebrand as a French team, MUCH better chance than Heikki.
I would love to see them become Gordini!
i suspect that will come along with the driver announcement.
i'm not convinced. we'll see.
Of course, I read that the Gordini brand had been relaunched.
Gordini hasn't done F1 before, has it? All their F1 forays have been as Renault. But yeah, would be a refreshing change. :)
Depends what Renault's future plans are - if a French driver is important Franck's yer man
I think Kovalainen could be in the queue
And a damn quick one too :P
Early 1950's
then we can call him Franck on the F1. I'd like that.
If Renault re-launch as Gordini and paint the car French blue they are going to want a French driver. For me that means Franch or Bianchi unless Prost junior can blag a superlicense and they can then cash in on his name and promote Prost vs Senna 2
Indeed so!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordini
Good plan. We have enough upset women on this site following the Jenson/Kimi developments
True enough. It's a tough life being an F1 fan. Should come with a health warning.
I am sure Gordini did GPs before Renault bought it. I am sure that Amedée(spelling?) Gordini made his name in racing
If Bianchi is in the frame for that Renault seat, he'll do the young driver test in December in a Renault. However, the rumors are connecting him to driving a Ferrari instead.
You missed the answer to that: early 1950s and pre-war/pre-F1
That's what I have read too. If I was Renault I would tell him that if the test went well that he would get the F1 drive and if not he would get a GP2 drive. Ferrari would not give him that kind of deal
I had a space question to ask you, Steven, but I have forgotten it. Boo.
I was just a bit behind in comments so that answer appeared while I was typing mine. That's always the problem when comments come in so quickly
Hmmm. Sounds like a good deal to me.
Shame.
Did you always want to be a Martian? http://beamartian.jpl.nasa.gov/welcome I haven't tried this so I have no idea what it is like. Just spotted it on the NASA site.
Was it about the current shuttle mission?
Oh I remember!
You know they are retiring the shuttle and there's something new to replace it? Will it be ready for when they stop using the shuttle?
Nope. I did this on sidepodradio. The situation is a complete mess. There is something like 6 or 7 years between the last shuttle flight and the first mission of the replacement vehicle. In that whole period NASA has no way of putting a man in space.
Only the Russian Soyuz will be able to carry people to the ISS. There are a couple of unmanned vehicles (Russian Progress and the ESA something or other) that can carry supplies up but not any large pieces as only the shuttle is big enough to take them.
NASA are looking for ways to bridge the gap and are considering extending the life of the shuttle but that requires a lot of budget.
I think the gap will encourage private space companies to take NASA on.
Sorry.
Is it possible to make the little blue thread links each comment has filter-enabled? So that you can filter out the whole Jenson thread for example from the Doohickey but still follow the daily and the Spa thread for example?
i have no idea what you mean?
lclt, will solve the issue, no?
Put -Jenson in the filter
I think Kathi means you should be able to enter "Daily: 18th November 2009" as the filter phrase and only see that topic's comments. I was thinking the same thing the other day.
Interesting. I am worried that they will leave someone on the space station à la Home Alone.
Instead of filtering comments Kathi wants to filter out a whole thread but read all the others. LCLT would mean constantly switching through threads to be up to date
hmmm. lclt is the perfect solution for threaded conversations, isn't it?
or two tabs?
more like put - Jenson Button signx ...
and see anything but Jenson but still all the other threads otherwise you can just use LCLT
Maybe that is why NASA TV shows what is happeing in the ISS most of the time so we can phone them and remind them
Adam Cooper is from AUTOSPORT, right?
He said:
Maybe it was... :D
i'll have a think. i'm not sure it's possible, at least the way things currently work.
Can you filter out Jenson and Button and Jenson Button?
Success! I have found a suit that doesn't make me look comical... I'm a happy bean.
problem is, not every comment features his name. so then we have to hastag everything. and that doesn't work at all.
i guess the point of doohickey is to see all conversation, but if you're tired of seeing everything, close it and either use live commenting, or individual threads.
I'm not looking for a solution for Jenson specifically. I just mean it as an example. There have been a few topics in the past part of the commentators haven't been very interested in or were fed up with. For example politics but you can't really filter that because there is no common word.
But it was just a question #don'tknowanythingaboutcomputer
hehe. food for thought, but i there's no simple fix at the moment.
i think maybe people need to give lclt more love:
http://sidepodcast.com/livecommenting/
it solves all the issues (and many others). and doohickey's just been a pain in the bum since it was introduced.
On Twitter:
Will wait for confirmation on this, but really, it's a no-brainer, isn't it?
That didn't take long. From the BBC:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/leicestershire/8366581.stm
Not sure he is still there but that is where he made his name.
That's good
That's what I said when the meeting was announced. As soon as they lost the GP Donington Ventures died
We should declare an LCLT day, to celebrate it.
:)
although in the wrong thread...
Oops! :D sorry, mr c...
LCLT would solve that :)
LCLT loads slower here for some reason, which is why I prefer doohickey. :)
just moaning about doohickey really.
Booooo. Doohickey makes us work :(
you need a secretary
More recently made his name with grassing Lewis up to the FIA...
Do you mean Liegate?
and rightly so.
I prefer doohickey, not sure it is anything other than it looks friendlier though. LCLT would be better if wider.
I knew I had seen his name somewhere recently.
LookwhatIfoundonmydictaphonegate...
OHHHH.
Does anyone think that Nick will not get the second Brawn seat?
and we should be thankful for that, right?
or am i missing something?
It's as good as his now.
we should be.
In the words of Bros – I can't answer that.
See orphan Bros gag, below!
on the strength of this week's evidence... what the chuff do we know?
:P
No idea who will get it
I still can't believe they let Rubens go without locking Jenson into a contract. That is as stupid as Kimi leaving Ferrari without having a drive sewn up.
In F1, it seems, things don't have to make sense.
ooh. good point.
Worse things happen at sea, you know.
It very rarely does! Can't believe this is just occuring to everyone now!
I do not find anything so far surprising - sorry Kimi were un reasonable in the eyes of Macca so they needed another driver that all so gave them the number one on their car.
I do not know much about Nico except Williams used to rave about him but in the end seemed to have let him go rather easily.
I feel sorry for Rubens, because had he know this I am sure he would have stayed on at the team. I am not sure Nick is as good at car set up as Rubens but his reputation is that of being very good.
Look at the alternatives: Kovi, Fisi, Trulli...
Glock to Manor not surprising?
And afternoon all.
Yes and no. In hindsight he could have hung around for Brawn but then Kubica must be thinking the same thing.
I suspect Merc wasn't interested - he signed with Manor at a time Jenson staying with Brawn was already looking unlikely.
I think Nick is better in terms of point scoring. Jarno is very fast in qualifying, Fisi seems to have moments of brilliance in a sea of mediocrity and poor Kovy was sadly outclassed by Lewis.
I suspect Mav was being sarcastic. ;)
The one think I noted Glock wanted to be the team leader and I think that he is why he did not take up the other options (which I assume was Renault).
Hmmm. Good point there. But he would've become Renault team leader had he beat Kubica. I guess he thinks he can't pull it off.
I am sure he was.
No chance. Renault have been building cars to suit Alonso which Kubica will love (but complain about) but they would not suit Glock
What ever is said Nick matched Robert during this season and actually out-qualified him. Robert did not drive badly in races but his poorer qualifying this year harmed his chances.
Nice to see that Kathi's trophy has arrived. Has the league trophy arrived at Sidepodcast Towers yet?
Uh oh. I have Kubica outqualifying Heidfeld 11-6 on my chart. I must have done something wrong somewhere.
https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=prOWs9OlsmMxrFIJcecKFRg&hl=en
It has! Thanks Danny :)
We usually qualified so badly anyways it didn't really matter. But didn't Nick's first Q3 come in Belgium. He has only been in Q3 twice hasn't Nick?
Did you use fuel corrected times?
Ah ok. No. Misunderstood your comment. Carry on.
In Belgium fuel corrected he was second placed - then made a hash of the start!
I had so much promise for that race as well :(
I want this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220510558209
except i don't have the money for it. boo :(
My fault - but unless it is fuel corrected you are not comparing apples with apples - even in 2008 Robert was usually lighter which slight amplified Nicks problems.
Fair enough. I prefer to look at the actual results, because fuel corrected feels like it is on a par with "what ifs".
Oooh. Sidepodwhipround?
have you seen how much it is? :P
Uber-sidepodwhipround?
hehe.
there is a clip of the next doctor who episode on friday as part of children in need! :)
There is! I am pondering how I can convince Mr C that I need to watch the whole thing for this short Doctor Who clip.
I know what you mean, a real figure always seems better than a corrected figure but actually when it comes to analysis you need to limit all the various sources of variation in order to fully draw out patterns - have I made sense?
If Nick gets the Brawn Mercedes seat I think that Ross and Nick will work well. The Schumacher secrete was the Ross Brawn strategy and Schumacher being good at the in-laps and not losing as much track time as other drivers. The pit stops will be shorter which could mean optimal strategy is to have more pit stops to account for increased tyre wear induced by increased fuel loads. Probably not making sense, but I think Brawn might be very good at this strategic side.
what about traffic?
Don't ask me. I'm backing Mr C's stance.
i don't mind watching it.
i have a stance?
What? Is it just me then?
Oh. I don't know you at all :)
♥

Feel the love. :D
Does this have anything to do with not saying good night to Christine last night?
traffic is variable - I think what harmed Robert was too early stops and then getting caught in traffic. If I am being honest there was mostly so little difference in Nick and Roberts time it was not significant. That is interesting since they have such different driving styles. Is Rosberg's style similar to Nick (which is similar to Jenson's). I did not really watch Rosberg - most Jenson and Nick (and Timo).
i mean in qualifying.
oooh, i forgot.
All drivers at some point get caught up in traffic - again Ross is master of knowing when to release a driver - Jenson's Monaco pole stands out as a good synergy between driver and manager.
I understand the concept, I just choose to look at it differently.
and I should have been clearer!
my point is, you're bringing "what if's" into the scenario. but not accounting for all the possibilities.
you're picking the variables that give the results that best suit your viewpoint.
Me neither :-D
Disagree - there is no suiting a view point it is about ensuring you account for sources of variation and correct these - it is actually standardisation. One of my main line research is to evaluate land and identify which pieces of land should put aside for conservation. A corrected value is certainly not a what if? as there is no real uncertainty - the heavier you are the slower you will be and I am guessing it would be near linear.
kubica out qualified heidfeld 11 - 6 this year. those are the facts. that is what happened and how history records the season.
you're adjusting those figures, which is fine, but you cannot write:
"What ever is said Nick matched Robert during this season and actually out-qualified him."
when it simply isn't true. only according to your own personal adjustments did he.
It becomes true if you say
"What ever is said Nick matched Robert during this season and actually out-qualified him on fuel adjusted weights."
If something didn't actually happen, surely it automatically becomes a what if?
it becomes true if you say:
"According to my calculations... what ever is said Nick matched Robert during this season and actually out-qualified him on fuel adjusted weights."
i agree.
A what if is an outcome based on some level of probability. Fuel adjusted times are no more than a correction to ensure variable standardisation.
Not statistically - think about packaging - you buy on the basis of quantity inside the container by mass not the mass of the container and its inside contents.
You have completely lost me, but I have to go anyway. I'll just say I prefer the facts.
i disagree with you stating your adjustments as facts. christine's table is factually correct.
and you can fool yourself with them - i prefer analysis where I minimize variations where possible.
oh dear.
Fiddling with figures is more reliable than the original collected data?
I am definitely going!
I'm not here, am writing a presentation on the psychological skills involved with performance driving....BUT....
surely its the analysis that you can fool yourself with....facts arent facts unless they are facts
can i join you?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soql_R04Bhg
Everyone look at that. Thats rFactor and it's so accurate for a sim, it puts F1 09 to shame
For the Wii and PSP, I hardly expect F109 to be that good.
thats true. If it was on Xbox or PS3 i would expect it to be betteer
Pretty confident F110 will be better than rFactor. Though we will have to wait and see, nowt released yet so impossible to tell.
If the game thats coming out on Friday was on a 360/PS3 I would laugh it off immediately!
The Wii game can only do so much considering what it's working from. I'll see tomorrow just how good it is though :)
What is actually a fact - is it an observation, repeated observations, repeated observations formulated into a hypothesis. I avoid using the word facts. If your observations are not standardised then you introduce variation which can hide the real patterns. Some car running heavier and other cars lighter means your observations (measurements) are non-standardised.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSVCWSzGDkY
That just looks incredible.
I WANT!!
On cold days more weight generating extra heat in the tyre is an advantage. Do you allow for that? When new parts are developed one driver may not have them. Do you allow for that? etc
You can't just make a blanket statement that correcting for weight automatically gives a more accurate reflection of ability. It is way more complicated than that.
The point is that regardless how things happened Kubica massively outqualified Heidfeld over the season.
This would mean never changing anything to a rate or never use a percentage - in each case it is fiddling. Use of absolutes in an analysis is dangerous.
Thats just, perfection
agreed.
If that is what you want to believe fine! It just makes Kubica's lack of points scored against Heidfeld even more shameful.
Steven, i can't be bothered to search back 9 days, but didn't Jackie Stewart win 3 WDC?
A month and 9 days...
In the same way that Alonso outqualified Kubica.
rich, you're a lovely chap. i like you.
but you're also a little bit mental.
love you loads,
mr. c.
That is not what I believe. That is what happened. You want to change one factor and believe that without looking at who got new pieces on the car when, who was on track when, why did the two drivers run the weights they did etc etc
oh yeah!
Wrapping things up here, no driver impressed me this year. I know that car was as quick as an overweight kid running after a carrot, but none of them showed spirit or lacked the ambition to get the best out of a limited car. If 2010 grid was based on lasts years performance, I wouldn't pick either of them for a top team.
Yes and 27 GPs out of 99 starts which was a record and had three seasons with Cevert as his team mate who JYS told Tyrrell to sign because he was so good. He also won in many other categories than F1
Ding Ding Ding. End of Round 201012123 ;) kidding
I think you're right though
So the hypothesis "stewart was never as fast as the competition" is disproved quite alot then
If we have that information it needs to be considered - one aspect that is certainly valid was Nick used a KERS more often than Robert and this certainly has to be accounted for. I am actually thinking of replacing Q3 with Q2 times.
Afternoon all
Didn't Nick do relatively better when the car was a dog and Kubes do rather better at the end of the season when it wasn't...
Although Nick did have KERS when Kubes didn't.... at the beginning...
I agree with you and neither driver would I include in my top ten for 2009 - hence my surprise that Autosport included Robert.
But then Jenson only scored 3 points during 2008 - would you have picked him at that time for a top team?
Rich...
Who is looking good overall from your analysis of all the drivers?...
Lukeh: Have you tried out Star Wars: Trench Run yet or peaked at the reviews?
If he says Trulli or Tim i'm out of here ;)
No, but he wasn't picked for a top team. He was hired by Brawn who were expected to be useless.
Huh?
That's no good solution either because you can't say if they were actually trying their best (or had the slower tyre option on the car, enough fuel to do do two timed laps but did only one because they were already quick enough, ...)
He was not as fast as Clark but it is questionable whether any driver in the history of the sport was as fast as him. Stewart like Prost always gave himself a margin and never overworked the car so people assume he was not as fast as the more spectacular drivers.
When Prost signed for Williams at the end of each day's testing they offered to take the fuel out and put quali tyres on so he could set a time like Mansell had always insisted on doing. Prost always refused. Williams and in particular Patrick Head though he was not trying so after a couple of weeks he insisted that Prost do a quali run. After that Head said that unbelievably given Prost's record it came as a complete surprise to him that Prost was genuinely fast. By that time Prost had 3 championships and 40 plus wins to his name but people thought he wasn't fast despite him scoring more points than Senna in both season they were team mates.
New long-awaited iPhone/iPod Touch game that is about to be raved about
http://www.tuaw.com/2009/11/17/star-wars-trench-run-for-the-5-jedi-in-all-of-us/
Can't say I've heard of it or seen it I'm afraid. Looks interesting though
It doesn't matter what info you use you are never going to convince anyone of your point. This is precisely why I have complained about race fuel quali since it was intrroduced. Qualifying times and in particular pole positions are utterly meaningless. Once you have low fuel quali the facts become a lot clearer and a pole position has merit.
Afternoon
Yeah, there was something showing if the championship had been split in two halfs and for BMW, Nick dominated one, Robert dominated the other.
Heidfeld only really got a podium due to the rain in Malaysia. All strategy.
Who's next to be confirmed, Rosberg I guess?
Not really Kubes did well Brazil but that qualifying was a lottery but he did well. Nick had bad luck in Singapore he was relegated to back of the grid due to the ballast mistake, in Japan when leading Kimi he had six second longer pit stop due to a wheel nut problem that dropped him behind and then Rosberg jumped him. In Brazil he gained eight positions (of course this was due to accidents - but under similar circumstances to Jenson's move up the grid and the another botched pitstop. Abu Dhabi was the most interesting - Robert qualified higher, if you fuel correct it Nick was every so slightly faster but insignificant. Robert had to pit earlier and some how (traffic) Nick managed to jump both Jarno and Kubes to get fifth place and very nearly jumped Rubens in his second stop.
I reckon the next few will be (in order):
Mercedes (both drivers)
Lotus (first driver)
Renault (second driver)
and then the rest.
Well I guess it will be interesting to see which lucky Cinderella Ross will choose for his glass slipper....
It would be terribly amusing to see him turn, say Fisi, into a WDC...
But then Fisi has had his Cinderella moment.... just a shame he was more ugly sister...
People thought McLaren were going to be next, but Manor came from nowhere.
I'll be awkward and say Force India, have they even announced yet?
Anyone else agree that Kubs dosen't look quite right in an open faced helmet?
http://www.formula1.com/photos/597x478/manual/dne0916no06.jpg
not that you're bitter or anything...
Don't think so, just Sutil expected... the other?
Tonio I've heard.
At the end of the race Timo was ahead but they take it the lap before the last - but of course only half points were awarded.
Am aware Timo only got there due to strategy as well.
I thought there was a long standing contract for Viatonio Liuzzi to drive in 2010, hence why Fisi left to join Ferrari.
you say it likes it's a bad thing.
jenson only one the championship due to strategy.
Did I? Didn't mean it like that.
maybe just the way i read it.
true story. *acough* one?
Nick's second was more of a fluke than Timo's third place. If we are honest a lot of MS was down to strategy and good qualifying.
ahh yeah. stupid mr. c.
I cannot agree there, Jenson in the first half everything was working, he made few mistake and sure there was an element of luck in the way none of his opponents could consistently challenge him he deserves the championship. In contrast Lewis' championship hung in the balance as Glock struggled around the circuit and eventually made a mistake.
"not that you're bitter or anything..."
Errr...
What has Fisi got to do with me being upset?....
He had no grip/traction going up a hill on dry tyres on a wet track. Not what I call a mistake.
i counted more than one race in 2008.
you're bitter at ferrari. not fisi.
lewis's championship hung in the balance for many reasons. he could have equally have had that at the beginning of the season and have won the last race. also dont forget spa and all other stupid decisions made by the fia
Thanks to Toxic Fusion for this

A snip, at $5,500
hmmm. i kinda want one. but know that no-one would EVER visit my house
Including a girlfriend and/or wife or potential one ;)
mmm, Abi would be quite annoyed that i spent $5,500 on what is effectively....odd
He left the circuit and ceded a position I know what you mean by saying it is not a mistake - I do not blame Glock. Was it preventable? If he went a bit slower yes but the Lewis would have caught him.
"you're bitter at ferrari. not fisi."
So how does that relate to my post about Ross picking drivers... and particularly drivers who are seen as no hopers for a WDC and making them into WDCs....
you said:
But then Fisi has had his Cinderella moment.... just a shame he was more ugly sister...
i'm assuming you're unhappy because fisi was good enough to be kept on at ferrari and kimi wasn't?
If the rain had come one lap later Glock would have made it and spoilt Lewis's WDC...
It was close.... but it's another "if"......
Or it's a comparison to Massa
oh. in then case it's gone right over my head...
People only care about it because it happened at the last race of the last lap etc etc, it could have equally happened at Spa too.
But if Fisi was the ugly sister, what does that make Badoer? Buttons or just a pumpkin?
Both Lewis and Massa had situations that were unfortunate or lost points, sometimes through no fault of their own. Most F1 drivers actually agreed that Lewis at Spa got an advantage. I am not sure that what they did was fair - I would have let the result stand and given him a grid place drop at the next race. What is unfair is that Alonso has that Singapore victory and Lewis did not have the Spa victory.
"you said:
But then Fisi has had his Cinderella moment.... just a shame he was more ugly sister...
i'm assuming you're unhappy because fisi was good enough to be kept on at ferrari and kimi wasn't?"
Afraid not....
Kimi so comprehensively did Fisi over how can I think that....
I don't think Ferrari were particularly good for Kimi after 2007, once Jean Todt left....
Most F1 drivers will agree that Lewis got an advantage because they wanted him to be pulled back, he was a darn sight quicker than Kimi PLUS most drivers wont put their neck out saying "No it was the wrong penalty to give, completely un justified, the FIA were wrong" etc etc
Todt left because of kimi
"But if Fisi was the ugly sister, what does that make Badoer? Buttons or just a pumpkin?"
There were two ugly sisters...
Really?
Was this generally known or is this an assumption?
Ah yes, of course :)
he left because he thought Kimi was worth more than Monty thought, or something like that
Lewis gain an unfair advantage and the drivers now have a code that you cannot immediately retake. It has always been the case and in the past Alonso has been told to give back the position after doing a similar overtake. What is wrong was not to correctly informed Macca to instruct Lewis to give back the place.
If we are honest Kimi this year at Spa should have given back his position to Fisi like Mark had to at Singapore at the start.
"he left because he thought Kimi was worth more than Monty thought, or something like that"
No... he left as he wanted to lead the FIA and had to have clear air between him and Ferrari before the election...
I think you are clutching at straws here - certainly the 2008 car was fast enough for Kimi to establish numerous fastest laps of the race during the season.
"If we are honest Kimi this year at Spa should have given back his position to Fisi like Mark had to at Singapore at the start."
Errr...
His move on Fisi was fine....
Glock didn't make a mistake on that lap. H did a faster time than Trulli in the other Toyota. He just had entirely unsuitable tyres
That is matter of opinion - but if it was ruled fine then Mark should not have had to give back his position at Singapore. If I remember correctly all four wheels were off the track when he overtook Fisi - normally that is not allowed.
"I think you are clutching at straws here - certainly the 2008 car was fast enough for Kimi to establish numerous fastest laps of the race during the season."
After he managed to get the tyres to a stage where he could induce some oversteer and unfortunately that was too late in the race...
Then so should Webber's have been. But we expect consistency from the stewards, the fools that we are
I saw somewhere recently that there was somewhere you could pay stupid money to and have a life size version of yourself in carbonite
WOW, i want one of those too...although probably not for the reasons we discussed earlier ;)
We should do that with Eddie Jordan
Actually do it, not just a version of him
Lets leave it OK it is semantics and I do agree that most other drivers would have ended up doing the same. Glock is a better wet track racer than Trulli.
That was really my point of inconsistency. Either both should have a penalty or neither.
"That is matter of opinion - but if it was ruled fine then Mark should not have had to give back his position at Singapore. If I remember correctly all four wheels were off the track when he overtook Fisi - normally that is not allowed."
Errr...
It was just after Eau Rouge... on the restart...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=471WGsG7Mrg&feature=related
No tyres off the track....
I hate to discuss this again but what advantage did he get. He closed up on Kimi into the corner so would have come out of it close to him. As it was he let Kimi past which meant he was travelling slower than him, switched sides and still managed to pass him before La Source. Commons sense and the laws of physics say that if he could do that he could easily have passed him had he exited the corner behind him.
Lewis was way faster than Kimi at that time and it was only a matter of time before he passed him. As it was Kimi went waaay of the track on the next lap but he didn't get penalised because he had a red car.
I thought we were talking about the start, round the outside on the first corner
I was any way!
The code was introduced after the invent so is totally irrelevant. Lewis gave back the place
Exactly. Fastest laps mean nothing
The code was in place before - I think Alonso was instructed to give back his position so not irrelevent - I think it was unfortunate.
Rather than debating the Lewis/ Kimi Spa thing again when all I will say is that Massa didn't deserve to win (there is a certain bitterness ther I suppose "me") wasn't it funny that the rain came just in time for Lewis at that event too...
Spa and Interlagos....
Ignoring the stewards... if the rain hadn't come exactly when it did things would have been different...
But then Lewis would have had extra points for Spa as a clear second place and even if he had not got past Glock he would have been WDC....
Lots of ifs but funny all the same....
On the orignal start Kimi was so far off the track he had to show his his pass to get back in. He passed at least two cars for the simple reason that they stayed on the track.
"Exactly. Fastest laps mean nothing"
I didn't bring them up....
"On the orignal start Kimi was so far off the track he had to show his his pass to get back in. He passed at least two cars for the simple reason that they stayed on the track."
Wasn't the point made...
And it was go there or get shunted off....
I was talking about this and I feel Kimi gained advantage and he should have given back those positions.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcjM6LYxS7k&feature=related
Oh and just to add my 2p, Kimi overtook under yellow flags at Spa too....
"I thought we were talking about the start, round the outside on the first corner"
That wasn't the overtake on Fisi... and it was that that was mentioned....
There was never any code that required a driver to wait one corner before making a move. Lewis gave the place back and switched sides behind the Ferrari which showed it was completely ahead and he was travelling slower and he still won the corner. Mainly because Kimi was being dopey and driving like no-one else was on the track.
There was nothing wrong with Lewis having to give the place back. It was right he should but there was no requirement for him to wait until after La Source to challenge again and there was no requirement for him to give Kimi more of an advantage.
Current drivers were looking after themselves. Look at people like Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda and Marting Brundle who are reknowned as calling it like it is. None of them thought Lewis should be penalised. Lauda is still complaining about it.
I am agreeing with your position on that
"Hi, The Feeder Series.
You have a new direct message:
feral_pigeon: coo coo coo"
aahah
Fair enough
But in the end....
It didn't signify....
Did it?...
Rubbish. He almost ran into the back of the car in front. He had no intention of ever making that corner and it seemed to take him by surprise that anyone else did. Regardless of why he went there he gained an advantage and should have been penalised.
I can't see why the 2nd half of turn one shouldn't be gravel
My last comment was re Spa 2008...
I made mistake in who he overtook - but he overtook and it was clearly an unfair advantage gained. Off track overtaking was my point Kimi has got away with it when other have not and it is inconsistent.
I don't see anyone close to shunting him.
"Rubbish. He almost ran into the back of the car in front. He had no intention of ever making that corner and it seemed to take him by surprise that anyone else did. Regardless of why he went there he gained an advantage and should have been penalised."
Rubbish...back....

OMG, I saw him run round the track when I was at Silverstone in 2005!
Gutted :D
YEEEEEEEEEEEY WWOOOOO
thats awesome!
Joe's latest piece is priceless...
But I am worried about the Donnington story below...
The Administrators are talking of a GP in 2011....
Surely the contract is void....
Steven I am actually agree with you - personally I think it was a move pre-planed.
I would imagine so, they probably are trying to evaluate the assets
“We are certainly hopeful that a 2011 Grand Prix could take place at the site." is wishful thinking
Scotsmen and alcohol. Not always the best combination
Will he be using the sporran again [at least]?
Gillett is deranged and he must have convinced the administrators. They should be paying a forfeit fee for not delivering this year
So many drivers over the years have used that line,
That to mean means they think they could have the track ready. It does not mean they have a contract
Does it make it right though!
It's almost like Ron sets him up to say things lie that so McLaren get some fun coverage in th media
Absolutely not. I have always complained about it. To allow it this year after penalising Lewis is just ludicrous though. Kimi was further off the track there than Lewis was at Fuji last year when he got penalised.
Rich, where is this post with all of these stats in it?
Yes but there's a lot of mods running and that looks pretty high end. Still though, awesome!
It is coming with the sources of information.
:D:D:D
What is the link to your files on drop.io that you used for your analysis.
That's weird ... how would you get any work done?
Nope. Nearly everyone says that he gained an advantage, inadvertently or otherwise. Not that you're biased or anything ;)
Hah! You missed the bit at the start what we were talking about!
joining the conversation late. but i agree with gavin and anyone who agrees with him on this one.
You really do have an irrational hate of Lewis - do you stick pins in a doll of him or something?
hey guys :(
hullo.
i feel ill
You are confusing us all by not quoting properly to suit your own argument I think...
hey.
Oh good. I look forward to reading this, seeing all the comments about it.

Yeah sorry - fell asleep on the train and I'm comment trawling!
I now see Kimi at Mercedes

I don't
Thanks it might help.
Feel free to use my spreadsheets. I will get back into blogging very shortly so more should appear!
I understand why people do not like using fuel-adjusted times. I actually need to compile all Q2 times where roughly similar fuel is used.
The fact Robertson has been running round saying Mercedes isnt good enough is provoking a reaction, I am sure he will be on the grid come Bahrain
i don't wish to upset you sir. but there isn't a hope in hell of that happening.
Well I should have all of that but the F1.com website does too...
I hope you are right. Kimi should be in a competitive F1 car and he is vastly better than anyone else who is availble
If he doesnt sign with Mercedes he will be with USF1.
no he won't
Even less likely :D
Why?
i think your magic 8-ball needs another shake ;)
He's stated on more than one occasion that he will only accept a drive in a potential Championship winning car
To try and convince me to watch Channel 4 3D they are telling me that hannah montana and jls are in 3d too....hmmm
That would be something. I wonder if Chad would be prepared to dig that deep to get him. Of course they will need to get more crayon drawings on the fridge door to make sure they have a car
You need to ask?
"You really do have an irrational hate of Lewis - do you stick pins in a doll of him or something?
If you read it carefully I was saying that if it hadn't rained in those two races Lewis would STILL have been WDC....
He'd have ended up 2nd at Spa and had more points and even if he dropped 1 point at Interlagos it would have seen him OK....
That's several times in this one thread that people have not read what I said but assumed I was being horrid...
""If we are honest Kimi this year at Spa should have given back his position to Fisi like Mark had to at Singapore at the start."
Errr...
His move on Fisi was fine....
Nope. Nearly everyone says that he gained an advantage, inadvertently or otherwise. Not that you're biased or anything"
Gavin... the move on Fisi was after the restart not at the beginning hence my comment....
They have the cash, they are bluffing, he will just sign a contract allowing him to do Le Mans and rallying or even Russian Roullete. That Youtube guy has cash and they have a great base in charlotte. They will be quick next season
Now that is selling!! ;)
Although I dont know who JLS is, unless you mean the funnypresenter with the beard and bristol accent
They'll be quick in explaining why they're not performing well, sure
X Factor X-band
Compared to whom?
Not in the top 8 teams. Not nasty, just a fact of life for brand new teams in F1
:P
I have been reading your comments and TBH you have been mis-quoting all over the place so it has been very difficult to follow your thoughts. Sorry if I misunderstood you!
He doesn't want to drive a lousy car and Americans are used to drivers who smile and say how great the Colgate, Dairylea, Green Giant car was today and can I say how proud I am of my team. Mom and apple pie.
Somehow I struggle to see Kimi doing that
I hate Channel 4
Language please, John ;)
At least RG will watch it
One of our players turned up in a JLS jumper, was astounded they had fans.
I hope to see you guys in Pitlane Fanatic at 8:30 for my quiz.cya l8er
HMMMMM
Will be there. Byee!
"I have been reading your comments and TBH you have been mis-quoting all over the place so it has been very difficult to follow your thoughts. Sorry if I misunderstood you!"
Where did I misquote Gavin...
I have no comments button so am doing the best I can....
Sadly, they have quite a few. Hence the crusing incident that hit the news the other day in Brum
*crushing
You are supposed to put a smiley face after a comment like that to let people know you don't really mean it
People have been getting confused because you keep switching ideas and not referring properly.
And why can't you quote? Are you not using the doohickey or LCLT? If doohickey, just click reply under the comment and then click the text you want to quote. In LCLT you just click the text you want to quote...
Probably.
Which is how reputations start ;)
I can't get the doothingy to work and apart from the first day the LCLT doesn't show the comments at all.....
So I can't do anything but what I am doing...
The trouble is that makes it so slow I am a bit behind but do my best...
What did Nick do now?
:D
Mobile Doohickey?
[Works on desktops fine, ideal for low resource systems]
won't help with quoting.
gavin, it's my fault not ladysnowcat's. try using ye olde comments.
I thought I would attempt some form of standardisation so that you could compare various - it is all based on assumption that become debatable.
It was really in response to the 10 best drivers of 2009 pasted earlier where 1 point separated Kimi from Lewis - but Lewis was given 1st and Kimi 8th place and Robert was 5th.
From James Allen:
Was today's McLaren tweet the first time a team has announced drivers using Twitter?
It's actually been excruciating since we moved to this new presentation....
i do appreciate that. fixes will be forthcoming, and thanks for your patience.
now if f1 would just go on holiday like it's meant to be doing...
http://sidepodcast.com/2009/11/18/jenson-button-joins-mclaren-for-2010/
"ye olde comments"
How do I get them?....
you have them.
i'm suggesting gavin should try it and see how he gets on.
Click the link to the story from the main page
It is always difficult when comments come in so fast. I had that earlier. I was answering a point and by the time I got my comment in someone had already clarified the point I said I wasn't sure about and so you end up in circular arguments or mis-interpreting comments.
:D
Evening :)
it's also wrong to assume everybody is using a fast updating live commenting system.
everyone should be allowed to join in the conversation, regardless of how they choose to do so.
doohickey is only an option.
I think so. Who would have thought it would be McLaren who did it.
It's almost like an anti-headping :)
Hey Alison
"Click the link to the story from the main page"
That's what I do...
i saw "Evening" and thought..."oh no"
eheh
and that's fine. please continue.
Hello
@Steven Roy
Have you heard that Paul di Resta will test for Force India at the december test? He was at their factory this week to have a seat made.
Yaaaay.
di Resta could be part of the price for a Merc engine next year.... or McLaren help...
I read in a certain MAGAZINE that he and Gary Paffett were going to test for Brawn.
There is a three day test in December that is only for young drivers. It will be interesting to see who does well in that.
Grrrrrr!
buuuuuuuuuusted
How old is Gary Paffett....
I'd like to see him and Paffett get a foot in the F1 door somewhere
28. I'm hoping he gets a drive this season myself!
I think i'm back at 'i hate you all' :)
It's hard to work out if this announcement means he is on the McLaren or Mercedes side of the divide. AUTOSPORT had him listed to test for Brawn and logically he would be better doing that with the info we have now as McLaren are unlikely to have a seat available before 2013 where Mercedes may. But if Force India go towards McLaren then that could be a better option for him.
im not sure you ever left it to be honest ;)
Glad to see the status quo has resumed
Paffett is too old now unless some new team wants to pick his brains. He has been around McLaren for a long time so he must be worth something
Again. erm....... So what was Michel like?
German website claims that Di Resta even has a chance of a race seat if Sutil leaves. This is the google translate version:
http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=nl&ie=UTF-8&u=http://www.motorsport-aktuell.com/formel-1/news/paul-di-resta-vor-f1-debuet-11222.html&sl=de&tl=en
Anyone for a "Sutil to Mercedes GP" bet?.....
Hmmm, interesting. Heidfeld more likely though, I'd say
Only if you're the one who thinks he would!!
Although actually...
The guy is certainly good enough to deserve a break. Besides it's time there was a decent Scottish driver in F1
Sutil to BMW
Ouch, DC take that!
I agree he deserves a chance.
Just thinking of Norbert's "surprise driver" and di Resta testing for FIF1.....
Sutil to Sauber? I really don't know who Sauber will get, Kovi?
Sauber are still hoping for a grid slot...
Not certain yet...
I am not sure you can read too much into surprise -surprise to me would be PK driving or Badoer.
Grrrrr!! Not sure what i'v done to deserve this... :(
We'll get it.
agreed there!
Would love to see di Resta given a chance in F1. His race-craft and general demeanour is excellent.
Whats happened now? I have absolutely nothing to do with it, nothing, nout, nada.
hope you are right
i'm going to task a risk. i'm going to turn off the comments and do something productive.
i would really appreciate it if no f1 news broke in the meantime.
Evening all. Just seen the men who stare at goats. Weird film...
Anyone know when an announcement like that might happen?
"I am not sure you can read too much into surprise -surprise to me would be PK driving or Badoer"
Even Ross's magic couldn't work with that line-up...
when the FIA can be bothered?
You know that won't happen.
:o
i wouldnt bet on it
I'll give it an hour. ;)
Good luck!
"me" your luck will depend on having no news hounds here scouring the foreign press for scoops....
PK in lower classes was actually quite good. I blame Briatore for both PK and Jarno being underwealming drivers.
And Heikki
if there is news i want to here it.
i just want there to be no news.
this is also quite compelling: http://microsoftpdc.com/
Are we gonna have to shoo! you
Good point - a pattern is emerging! If truth be known I have never really been convinced by Webber!
yes.
also IE9 is coming, yay!
You are just trying to get my hopes up now
Just for that: SHOOOOO! ;)
Shoo!
bernie needs to watch this.
mixing race telemetry with online live timing.
:)
am gone.
See, it hasn't even been 5 minutes
Jacques Villeneuve caught talking to Manor
:D :D
DV was a decent driver but he was not as good as McNish and used to say so himself i his first couple of season in F1. If DC had stayed at Williams instead of taking the big money move to McLaren his career could have been very different.
Dumbreck looked like he could make F1 as well but never really had a chance. So we are due another Scottish driver
I only asked what Michel was like
The way announcements have been coming it could be anytime
I'm going to learn not to blindly follow Lukeh's Twitter feed. Bad bad man! :P
:D
#blameJacques
Neither have I. When is his contract up? If he only has one year it is possible Kimi already has a 2011 deal
For the record, Lukeh's feed really doesn't #needsmorechris.
Love it to be true. Timo being better than a world champion.
I don't care if he was world champion 12 years ago.
Evening all!
madness of dubai is nice... I have found a lovely vaio laptop i want.. but its windows 7
How compatible is it with other windows software? I dont want to buy something which wont run the software the company uses...
It blatently hasn't got enough.
ok, I'll be online more ;)
Have you become an MS fanboy now?
That was a good one though :)
Not this early, maybe by mid-season. I'd want to know next year's car was pretty good
Get a Mac and run both
I was thinking of his reasons for turnng down McLaren. If he knew that for 2011 he had a Newey car with a Merc engine that could have some appeal
Kimi may just be happy to put his money on Adrian Newey....
Fair enough. I do apologise again to her ladyship :)
From Tweet Faves site http://favstar.fm/:
Parenting Tip: The new Twilight movie provides an excellent two-hour window for reading your daughter's journal.
I used to use it all the time. Was a bit slow and meticulous to quote!
:D
Hang on, I never said she shouldn't be part of the conversation - just that she was confusing me...
Must do homework before the quiz. So see ya later. And throw shoe's on me if I return early.
Sorry, shoo me.
Check
*gets shoes out anyway*
GO!
walk out the door
don't turn around now, because your not welcome anymore (until 8pm)
Show Shoo me?
Although I am glad RG that you apologised for Schumi. we're all sorry.
I don't understand him not going to McLaren unless he believed he had something better but then I don;t understand him leaving Ferrari without having a drive elsewhere. A hungry Kimi after a year off with Vettel in the other car could be something special
Lets hope he doesnt do a mika...
Maybe it was only a crap-ton of money that was going to get him to stay. The 'winning car or nothing' talk was just to convince McLaren of his motivational mood
Possibly
You found somewhere to live yet Nick?
Team Brawn worth $245 million.
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/11/18/you-just-have-to-ask/
He is too young to do that
Hmm. Yes.
That is quite a lot of money.
He has a family...
Was just reading that
"Fair enough. I do apologise again to her ladyship"
Thank you for the gracious apology kind sir....
"Lets hope he doesnt do a mika...
He is too young to do that"
Yes he is but if he really really loves his life next year he won't be back...
Except that the 50%ers will definitely be wanting their meal ticket to produce so I expect them to be doing a big money deal if they possibly can for Kimi just as soon as possible.....
I just hope you look good in a waterproof jacket and gum boots ;)
Interestingly you could say Team Brawn is worth $184.2million as that buys you a majority stake that allows you to do exactly what you want (subject to the oppression of minorities stuff)....
No need to factor in the extra 24+% as that cannot be valued pari passu....
"I just hope you look good in a waterproof jacket and gum boots"
As my first love is my gees I always have waterproofs and wellies (navy hunters of course).... as well as Jimmy Choos....
Any ideas where i can live in dubai anyone?
thx...
The big hotel thingy
Can you live close enough to work so you can walk in?
There are 50,000 grand stand seats that will not be used for a while
At Mustapha's place?
theoretically... although that sort of behaviour is not just frowned upon here, but activly mocked!
What kind of person asks to be shooed from the comments then spends his time chatting to Gavin on twitter?
Is it blue in the off-season or quite cheerful?
Any ideas where i can live in dubai anyone?"
"The Al Qasr is nice....
they are over the border...
...and it might get a little dusty ;)
Sets an awful example does that 'c' fella!
Mr C apparently
Its a bit cheesy for my taste... i could survive in a medinat villa though, although it would have to be one with a pool...
I always get Dubai and Abu Dhabi mixed up.
Don't blame me - we are discussing the Twitter API and it's interesting!
he might get angry...
"Its a bit cheesy for my taste... i could survive in a medinat villa though, although it would have to be one with a pool..."
Love the horses on the driveway and they do great champagne cocktails......
Its a bit like england and scotland... ;)
Its a bit pricey... i dont mind splashing out, but £45 is too much for a mojito!
Grrrrrrrr
"Its a bit pricey... i dont mind splashing out, but £45 is too much for a mojito!"
True....
We did have to take out a small mortgage for the cocktails but the beer was OK....
And the view from the bar is spectacular...
oh... london regent street review...
National geographic: looked awesome, but missed it...
Ferrari: Not a lot there other than a bad mock up of an F1 car
Apple: confused me, but then again i am adverse to asking for help
Hamleys: AMAZIING
You're supposed to just play...
and switch as many machines onto SPC as possible
I wanted to look for a mac mini, which was impossible to find, and not even plugged into a screen...
I kinda sulked out after that
I do get the feeling in the eyes of the british public ross might very quicly fall from Hero to Zero...
Surely not, bit odd
Shoulda got one at Duty Free
im getting a windows 7 pc instead, at least in the short term
and if it is compatible
This is the guy who helped Schumacher cheat various British drivers and teams out of championships and you think this is going to affect his reputation
Doesnt this season show that its true though?
Why? I think it was impossible for Brawn to have repeated their success without some sort of huge investment. I am very sad the team sort of broke up with each driver go to a new team and Mercedes coming and rebranding it. I wished they had named it at least Mercedes Brawn GP. Given the huge amount of change possibly it is the right thing to bring two new drivers. After Japan I am not a fan of Nico but he is probably a very good driver that simply has not had the car to show his talents. Will I support them next year like I did this year? My other two teams were Toyota and BMW Sauber - I guess I will support where Nick goes and keep an interest in Manor or Virgin or what ever it will call itself.
Have you not seen the 27" iMac?
Quite delish :)
It will be seen as:
He has made a fortune selling his team to merc, and wont pay jenson a champions salary. instead happily running what looks to be the German national team.
Im not saying its right/accurate... but i think its what many will see
on silly people will think that Jenson was forced out/didn't get enough salary. if he wanted to be there, he would have.
The Sun & The Daily Mail maybe, not many others
You have got to say that the Fairy story has come to a pretty abrupt end....
It's almost like Little Red Riding Hood got eaten by the Wolf....
I wanted a mini!
i was 50/50... i might still get one, although it will be online rather than at a store
where do the majority of the eyes of the british public fall?
If you have a keyboard & monitor already it's a good little entry into the other side
A lot more powerful than last year's machine too
Who cares about them, it's what the fans think that matters [or not]
Mercedes will only be bothered about the German press most likely
I think they will think Button dumped the team to go to McLaren
anything for an "eyecatching" headline.
or "Jenson Button ate my wallet".
From Mr C
sidepodcast RT @stevenroy27: @saltire I only caught Mr C because of his own invention http://bit.ly/1sLu7N
he is on less thatn what lewis is supposedly on... that doesnt look like cashing in... There is no reason mercedees couldnt have paid that
'BUTTON BUMPS BRAWN - World Champion Jason Button cashes out and forgets old team as he joins the elite force in the Formula 1'
I can see it now...
Of course he is still tweeting so I failed
I really dont see the logic of replacing the entire driver lineup after the season brawn have had...
MWM FAIL
What happened?
they are having broadcasting issues. the auto test card is playing
Also PF are having programs :(
I just had the worst short track oval race. Thank God I didn't hit anyone and the other guys were really nice to me!
problems?
urm... problems, yeah. My mind is all up mixed.
Hasn't Button found his Prince Charming?
We do not Mack Mistooks!
Yes problems
programs? You mena server problems
Problems gone (not necessarily fixed)
What were you racing?
Legends @South Boston in iRacing. I really enjoy it!
I meant problems, I'm not sure why I typed programs. I only noticed it when jon brought up the mistake :(
I want to try Legends for real
soooooorry :(
Pitlane Fanatic is back now for the quiz, yay :)
They look fun. Short track racing is hard.
The problem for me in iRacing is that I try too hard - I'm reasonably quick, but instead of setting a good pace, I overdrive the car to try and catch the guy in front and spin off!
do you need a really good graphics card to play, or can it run ok in commodore 64 mode?
MWM is back tooo
#sidepodspace
I got my days confused. The shuttle docked with the ISS and the hatches opened about 3 hours ago. The first spacewalk will start at stupid o'clock tomorrow morning UK time.
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/main/index.html
Is it related?
If you can run NASCAR Racing 2003 you should be ok - my computer is a games machine from 3 ½ years ago (about to be replaced...)
They run them on the full track at Knockhill. I would rather do that than go round in tiny circles
I am going to skip the quiz this week as I have some stuff to record that I promised Christine
Well the program sets the track for the week. Unfortunately you start at the bottom with a solstice on road courses and a legend on short tracks...
Aww, there is no rush for that.
This way I will have fewer distractions if people are quizzing. Besides I want to get them done.
Fast Lane Daily have reported that there will be a new safety car for next season - the new Mercedes SLS AMG. Tasty :P
Want.Lukehs.Greggs.Car.as.safety.car :(
MINE!
It delivers sausage rolls in my dreams
Also, MSC has been reshuffled at Ferrari. He will no longer be an advisor for the F1 team but will now work on the development side for future Ferrari road cars.
Also reported by FLD.
Spot the difference for anyone want to play: http://i35.tinypic.com/2qio6zm.png
Quiz is still going...
Is it me or is this quite a hard one?
I got 2, then got bored. Both of them were extremely hard to find
I'm pretty much at that point with same
2 should be very obvious but maybe so obvious you overlook them
I'm on 3!
Just got my third too
Only one obvious one so far though
Same. Unless we have an obvious one that we think isn't (if that makes sense)
I think it makes sense.
Another good one from http://favstar.fm/
If you think writing in the proper tense is difficult now, just wait until time travel was possible.
Douglas Adams said the one thing that proved time travel was impossible was grammar. He went into it in great detail in the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy
Why is reading out loud so difficult?
Affinity with Mr C, clearly. :)
Must check to see if I have Ted affinity too.
First one done. Eventually
It is?
Oh recording it? I see. Well that is a different kettle of fish!
Good evening :)
I know what you mean.
Yep. Put a microphone in front of me for a live show and I will talk coherently all day. Do the same thing and ask me to read and record something and it takes ten times as long and has all sorts of mistakes in it
I am not here. I still have one more to go. Back September 2012 at this rate.
I should have said hello first. How rude of me
You can tell us if the world has ended then :P
Hello :D
You know what, that's the most polite greeting I've had for days :P
Just keep recording, and edit out the mistakes later. If you have the software to do it.
I am the exact opposite and therefore something of a freak :)
You should be doing voice-overs for adverts then.
Same as me!!
And if that fails you could do Audio Books and Podcasts.
hey wait! ;)
That's what I am doing
Wow - I just won my first iRace at Lime Rock Park! Wicked!
oooh congrats!
So, I guess you're happy with the result? *shoves mic in face and moves head to one side like Lee McKenzie*
If you'd just got out the car and it was a 2CV, i'd have almost certainly asked "How was that stint for you?"
Ahhhh bless me
Bonsoir!!
evening
Ooh that's the only thing missing is a kiss from Lee ;)
Hiiiii :)
Hello.
if you want sb to kiss you then am sure it can be arranged :P
*backs away*
:D
Hello hello.
I have just been to a comedy night and it 'twas very good.
Cheers!
20 laps, started 9th, got into third after the Sutil and Trulli imitators took out half the field and then managed to get into first place. Battled like crazy with the guy in 1st for 4 laps who overtook me, so I pressured him for another four and he spun off!
After that it was cruise and collect, but there were a couple of guys who were being silly and nearly wiped me out lapping them!
Evening, sounds good.
Yeah, was thinking of Lee not SB!
Oooh, any names we've heard of?
What would your wife say....?
Arthur Smith hosted, with Paul Tonkinson and Craig Campbell (a Canadian based in Devon..).
What would my Wife say?
Next month they have Ardal O'Hanlon!
It is a monthly thing which is quite amazing for a small town like this. I've only been the twice...
Heard of Paul Tonkinson. Sounds good.
Gonna go to bed, not at all happy but need to go to bed, ciao all. lotsa love.
night RG.
Night Gavin *winks*
night all
Adios Mr Bunny Sir
The both of you....
night guys
We mentioned this petition? http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/copyrightreform/
In a nutshell: Government want to change copyright laws so anyone can poach your pictures. That's nice of them. Not.
Night Guys!
Night Gavin
Night Gavin
They can't do that. It is insane
Night all who are leaving
They've been saying that they want to do it for a while now.
More info: http://www.journalism.co.uk/2/articles/536551.php
Lukeh. Whats Swansea like?
Depends where you go.....
ok...
Whats Swansea met like?
The uni's alright. Nothing special. Bit far away from the train station which was rrrrrrubbish when I went there but it's just a bog standard uni I reckon. Although the lecturers are lovely.
Whats the area like?
Crazy. I have signed the petition.
If I was a serious photographer I would look for a site that comes under US law to put my pics on.
Not too bad from what I remember, it's not in the rough area of Swansea
Recordings finished and sent .
i cannot believe i only just learnt about firefox prefetching.
who's dumb idea was that?
SHOO!
...what is it?
you're ace. she's asleep now, but am sure she'll get them tomorrow.
oops.
when you view a blog post, if there's a "next" link, it goes and downloads that page too. and puts it in you cache.
even if you never intend to read the next post.
consumes user bandwidth, server bandwidth and screws with web stats. lunacy.
Who won the quiz?
Did I miss any big news?
I e-mailed them and there are backups on the sidepodradio drop just in case
What's prefetching mean?
I don't like the sound of that.
Kimi signing for Mercedes?
it's daft.
That's actually happening now? So I was right about yesterday;s "not in F1" thing being a ploy to get more Merc €€
Only in Brazil so far
http://globoesporte.globo.com/Esportes/Noticias/Formula_1/0,,MUL1384006-15011,00-KIMI+RAIKKONEN+ACERTA+COM+A+MERCEDES.html
Same people who broke the Renault Sinagapore story. It is a one year deal apparently
what's their source?
kimi isn't brazilian.
Ed "Bore" Gorman mentioned it in one of his articles as well on the Times website.
what does kathi think?
How very astute of you sir!
*doffs cap*
I don't think she speaks Portuguese.
what sort of crazy wife do you have? Who sleeps before midnight?
:P
she gets up very early.
Morning.
Any more big news or is that all finished for now?
hehe. piquet is, i can see how they might get that exclusive.
KATHI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think Mr C is an owl....he's actually nocturnal
I think James Allen doesn't like me. Absolutely none of my comments ever get published after I questioned the content of his blog-cum-book about a month ago. :cries:
Has anyone seen Kathi on twitter recently?
she's probably taking a break after yesterday. ;) its tough work being famous
he doesn't like me either.
mind you, we spent two years trying to get him fired, so i kinda accept he might hold a grudge.
define recently? 22hrs ago was the last tweet.
:D
I was wondering if she was awake and I would have DMed her her
and then when he did get fired, we made fun of all his videos.
remember them?
hand gestures
Hi
It just keeps on coming!
Oh yeah... Oops.
I might cancel my order of his book now. That'll teach him.
but i thought you wanted his book? so then you both loose out?
oh yeah. i'd hate me too.
still, he should read and not heard. i like to think i'm the honest friend he never had :)
I didn't. Then I did. Now I don't again because he's a big meanie head.
wow, my typing gets worse.
am going again now. back in a few hours.
you are noctural.
fact-isih
Toodle loo
So long.
read that as... you're a nocturnal fascist.
i read like i type.
:D :D :D ooops
By day he's an F1 blogger. By night he's invading Poland.
Joe's on the Kimi-Mercedes-God-Knows-What-He's-Doing case: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/11/18/brazilians-report-kimi-mercedes-deal/
Same journo who says he's going to Mercedes also said he was off to join Citroen in the WRC
Looks like someone on twitter thinks Kimi will be replacing Webber too.
http://twitter.com/KimiVettel
Joe to the rescue
nice one.
i really love this one: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/11/18/fun-and-games-with-a-calculator/
am gone.
That is not so good
Too late in the day to be looking at numbers, will read tomorrow.
night
hush, I'm sleeping.
Sleepyping :D
