Morning everyone! I see you’re all up nice and early for the Grand Prix today, having a nice breakfast?
What are you predictions for todays race? Looking forward to seeing Jenson get his 10th career win? Or perhaps it’s the evening for you, and you’re settling down with a nice drink
to watch the Formula 1 or contemplate just how amazing Jenson was today? Okay, maybe I’m being a bit over enthusiastic, maybe I should just get on with the daily.
Is everyone up to speed with the happenings of yesterday? FP3and Qualifying? If you’re looking for a recap of what happened I have just the place for you to check. or if you’d rather, why not listen to the fabulous F1 minute? Don’t forget F1 Big Picture either!
Oh and if you’re wondering what happened to Mark then wonder no more, Maverick has written a great post on where Red Bull went wrong yesterday.
You may have also noticed the shocking overalls the Mclaren boys were unfortunate to be wearing… I mean how could you not! Well you’ll be pleased to know it’s back to normal for mclaren today. The overalls are all to do with the hugo boss competition, have you entered your design yet?
Leigh has also been very busy this weekend, he’s currently in Monza covering the F3. Check out his post for a round up of yesterdays action.
On with the arty section of our Sunday then;
• Ever wondered what an honest logo would look like?
• I never knew photography of surfers could be so artistic!
• Had a dream about levitating recently? Well here are some rather beautiful images of such dreams.
• Never ever anger a polar bear… ever.
• Here are some very touching injured toy soldiers
• Google earth really is an art form of it’s own.
That’s about it for today, I’ll see you all in the comments, have a lovely day and enjoy the race!
hiii new daily.
sorry it's late. time to sleep. night all! xx
Night Lou
My desire to not leave the house is working against me - i have no milk so cant have a cup of tea unless i go get some :(
can you get one of your flatmates to bring you some? after all that's what flatmates are for.
probably but im trying not to see or hear them all weekend too :)
I drank lots of water and desire for tea went away :)
Afternoon :)
I love the last pic. hehe :D

Hello everyone.
F1 preview on the TV screen, my sofa and my little netbook in my hands. What else could I want :) ?
My alarm clock woke me up one hour before I thought it would do, so I could say that coffee has become my best friend today...
I am expecting a tough race, not as hard or confusing as the Malaysian one, but I am predicting lots of overtakes at the back-straight. If the DRS doesn't work there, it won't work propertly anywhere.
Anyway, I wish those overtaking systems weren't inside the F1 cars...
Enjoy the race ;)

London Marathon day. Women's race has just started, I shall be ignoring it until after the F1. :) Men's race in 45min.
Men's marathon started, will come back to that later
We join the Marathon coverage to see a giant snail cross the start line..
I'm still trying to work out who everyone is.
morning everyone
Hi Leigh
Mary Keitany has broken away from the leading group. #marathon
Excellent race from what I saw earlier
How is Monza today?
Nice and sunny without being too hot. It's been busy already.
I really enjoyed it.

Yeah, this morning's been good so far, especially since last night's scare
Will you be watching the Blancpain race?
Only a small bit, but I have to be gone shortly afterward to make my way to the airport
Men's race isn't as far in as I'd thought, only 46 mins
Ah right. Apparently it'll be livestreamed but since I don't know anyone in it I might pass.
Is Pipo Derani related to Danilo, and whatever happened to him?
Kiplagat and Bekele, I recognise those names. Lel in the men's. I am backing them because I've heard of them.
No idea to be honest. As far as I know he didn't progress passed F3 if I remember
Men have reached halfway at London Bridge in 1h02m44s
Wheelchairs approaching the finish
Mary Keitany leading the women's race, commentary says it is unusual for a woman to get under 2hr20 and she's heading for that

:)
Good effort by Lotus today actually
Yeah only one lap down
And were running a decent pace too
Women's race has barely 20 minutes to go
A group of four race to the line in the women's wheelchair!
Gascoyne going soft in his old age?
Men's race has a big group up front. Women's race has about a mile left
Good win for Keitany in 2hr19m17s in the women's race. 4th best on all-time list.
Back to the daily. Love the art links as ever, those logos are absolutely brilliant :)
Although I have no plans to anger any polar bears any time soon.
RT @Pirelli_Media: Pirelli announces tyres choice for next three races. http://fb.me/wmDV5C1d
Mutai's broken away from the lead group
What on earth is this http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/apr/14/china-time-travel-dramas
that is Mainland Chinese logic, I am fighting it on daily basis ...
Admittedly one of Liuzzi's stops was for a drive-through...
Mutai wins with a course record of about 2h4m40s. Lel second.
Heikki must be playing golf with Lewis tomorrow :)
I had no idea Lewis could play golf, Fuller probably told him to do it :P
they've been playing together for aaaages, there was a twitpic once :)
found it! http://yfrog.com/mq8j0pj
Ah nice!
smallest twitpic ever.
Sounds like Alonso won't be getting a penalty because the stewards consider his DRS problem to be a one-off electronic glitch.
That just so happened to a Red car following another? #tinfoilhat
Thats silly... i wonder if its connected to the mclaren ecu
McLaren remotely activated it to get Ferrari in trouble #extratinfoil ;)

I have just got out of my dressing gown, found some proper clothes, and brushed my teeth. #lazyday
Awww!
because Joe has one too? ;)
That's quick
Voicemail sent!
I have no idea why he doesnt!
It annoys me a little grrrr... I should have asked him when i met him.
Dont think its quite an aside question though!
fair enough, he never tried to gain an advantage from it, it only happened once, and not for long
it could have just as easily have sent him off into the barriers mid-corner
Right, off to watch some football and then play Need for Speed...

Sadly I think the difference is that Joe does F1 and receives some money for his work, where I do F3 and receive anxiety attacks
:)
If Lewis hadn't won today, I think his head might have exploded.
I have not seen any F1 or IndyCar at all this weekend - this may be a busy week ahead, although the fact that I'm holidays from Wednesday evening helps a lot
hehe, i think you can plug a domin name into wordpress now so you dont need to pay for hosting :)
Awwww.

I swear I do not ever want to have to experience last night ever again
thats how i got mine :D that i never use :(
I need to do it too. But thenk i want to pay for hosting so i can practice my HTML, by the time im done i decide its all to expensive and give up
Pat,
To answer your earlier question, Danilo Dirani is not related to Pipo Derani as far as I can tell - different surnames
Ah right, thansk
ha ha... true
BTW who was that blogger who does comedy blogs about races he hasnt seen? im keen to read his report on this race :)
There's a man running the marathon while solving Rubik's cubes

i've laid out all my running stuff so I have no excuse not to go out tomorrow after work. hooray!
As you do of course
You may disappointed to hear that he says "he doesn't get F1" - fair enough, I always judge a book by reading half of chapter 13
:D
In fact, sometimes I think he just doesn't like motor racing at all
Or he likes it for the soapbox
possibly
haha, brilliant!
hope he still keeps blogging about it
This Blancpain / F3 weekend is really quit good, but there is no one here at all
So I can see.. I've got the feed up for the GT race which just started
Why was the button messed up pitstop filmed inside the 5livef1 com box?
What happened?
No idea. I don't think Radio 5 knows either!
Only 367 people watching the live feed.
GT1 or something else?
It wasnt even like it was a good angle, half f it was missed panning the camera over croftys head
Blancpain Endurance Series, for GT3 and GT4 cars. It is a brand new series in fairness.

Apparently, the 5Live boys have the best grapes
Lost my wallet, my cash and other papers in a taxi, leaving me stranded in a strange city with only €3

Lotus, Nissan
Awesome. You should reward him!
From the sounds of it, dustbins
Really basic ones.

Benson is on the case:
Story coming soon on on bbc.co.uk/f1 with explanation for Fernando Alonso's moveable rear wing (DRS) activating in a forbidden place
Most impressive Mr Benson. Proper investigative journalism. He has spotted the clues after it was only shown twice on the BBC's own program
But the story isn't about "the clues" (according to the message Nick posted). It's about what caused the clues to appear.
Nobody has explained it yet though beyond it being rouge enough to not warrant a penalty
Which makes me suspect it was the FIA side of things that went wrong, otherwise Ferrari would have got a penalty (perhaps a fine). There's supposed to be a mechanism that makes triggering the wing outside the zone impossible - perhaps the system got confused?
I see
So I got up this morning thinking I wouldn't have time to watch the Chinese GP today (DVR'd), so I read all about it on twitter and in google reader. And now I think I have to MAKE time to watch it!
It's worth it :)
Has there been any FIA communication on the various investigations today? I have seen the official results so I guess there were no penalties but have there been any warnings etc?
The di Resta/Heidfeld collision was deemed a racing incident.
No official communication on Alonso or Sutil/Pérez.
Di Resta and Heidfeld was a racing incident
Common sense. Interesting new approach
Thanks
It will be intriguing to see how it develops.
I'm actually confused as to how.
They collided on lap 47, an investigation was announced, nothing happened, nothing was said.
Thought that was a blatent pen for Sergio, maybe they felt it wouldn't affect the results too much if he had been penalised...
I almost feel like they should be specifically banned from considering those consequences. It just lets them manipulate race results very cynically.
Seems strange that they haven't at least said they're treating it as a racing incident though.
I'd agree.
Just watching ted news and I absolutely love how the chinese fans can just happily waltz into the pitlane after the race in shanghai!

:O
That sounds really nasty...
That is terrible. I guess Jonathan Palmer will be looking at safety upgrades tomorrow morning.
Wasn't there an incident last year of a car flipping over the barriers?
I think it was at Brand anyways, not sure if I'm confusing myself.
yeah i think so.. cause i was gonna go.. and i didn't for some reason..
morning all
good morning mr c
Good afternoon!
Hiya sir. The result is the same and everything!
hehe
*stunned*
Good morning
I just got an ice cream out of the fridge and it wasn't frozen properly, a bit sludgy. I'm thinking you could rant about this seeing as the stewards took away your favourite ranting subject ;)
gonna be a short show. although i think christine's mad that red bull accused mclaren of cheating.
That was a bit naughty. honest I suppose, but the paranoia is off the scale!
What that guy needs is a
lucozadered bull. She hasn't had a rant in ages. Of course it was only one mechanic and not an official notice from the team but far be it from me to get in the way of a rant
There seems to be a nasty accident there every year.
that's better isn't it? if the question went to horner:
"well... the fia... they're doing their thing... of course... we always thought... everyone in the team works... well together. you're not gonna get a sound byte out of me... good luck with that"
yaaayy saves me ranting about it then :)
That was a bit ridiculous.
How arrogant have they become? They loose 1 race and it can only be because McLaren were cheating?
I thought getting a soundbite out of Christian Horner was routine and that he simply never gave one on purpose?
....but anyways, Sebatian's race...
;)
you're thinking of whitmarsh.
I'm definitely thinking of Christian, though you are correct in that Martin is exactly the same in that respect. Usually Stefano too.
With Christian and Martin though you don't want to ruffle their hair and pinch their cheeks though :)
ooh, daily post. i forgot. #sorrylou
oh my, i love honest logo's!
They are absolutely brilliant :)
The MTV one, hehehehe.
Although I definitely have no plans to go angering any polar bears, no sirree.
re: funny food faces. here's some edible typography: http://designyoutrust.com/2011/04/17/bite-me-typography/
great daily lou.
It's great that the guy either said what he thought or was on the wind up
Penalty!
Toro Rosso fined €10000 for releasing Alguersuari with a loose wheel.
No. More ranting equals conspiracy theory.
I forgot all about that.
has Stefano even spoken to the BBC this year? I haven't watched a lot of the pre race build so have no idea :)
He was Webber's mechanic.... Paranoia central :P
I believe he did post-qualifying or post-race in Australia, but it was brief and definitely nothing like the number of interviews he got last year.
Interesting, I want to believe he's fallen out with the BBC, but then I see a conspiracy in everything.
Ferrari? Conspiracy? They will be paranoid you suggested that
:)
The UK isnt exactly a core market for ferrari.
Santander wont care because they sponsor McLaren
the only potential complaint could come from shell, but they prefer james allen anyway :P
I don't know why the BBC just don't bypass Stefanano and go straight to Rob
After Germany last year, I'd have thought Ferrari would have been very careful to keep him away from direct media outlets of any kind.
he did speak to them quite a bit last year. I expected at least something brief during Australia as it was the first race but nothing.
Maybe he's just fed up with Eddie's questions ;)

They are underperfoming. inteviews with the boss would just highlight it more?
Stefano was interviewing horner and whitmarsh for ted last year!
it wasn't clear that they were before quali in Aus. ;)
I suppose it comes down to the BBC focusing on Red Bull and McLaren more than anyone else this year.
I think it is Ferrari's choice rather than the BBC's
I hope Christine's voicemail editing skills are as good as they were last week.
Which reminds me to do mine. *prays*

I had no tech issues this time

Looks like it's not just F1 where the results get changed after the race.
4 F3 drivers penalised for corner cutting
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90857
I know the FA Cup is supposed to throw up a few shocks but Stoke are not meant to win 5-0 in the semi-final. That is way more than a shock
As RG just said on Twitter I can't believe they're in Europe too now next season
I hadn't even thought of that.
Not as mad as Arsenal v Liverpool, in which Arsenal score penalty in 97th minute and Liverpool equalise from a penalty in the 102nd.
I just saw that
Looks like Carragher got a sore one. Clash of heads with all sort of medics on the field checking his airways and the like. Hope he is OK
Apparently he was talking to medics in the changing rooms, so is fine. Didn't look nice though.
Just before that Andy Carroll did something nasty to his knee. SO it looks like the 102 minutes could be legitimate
I assume he has been packed off to hospital for scans
I'm not here, but I just left a voicemail which I hope is okay, complete with seagulls.
I will be here in about 90 mins when I'm back from Mum's. :)
I'll write up a Long Beach post later if you like

Ah, I just watched the Forum again and I understand what DC was on about.
He was asked not to take his earplugs out in the McLaren garage and he mentioned EJ - who if you remember Ron Dennis cut his communications cords at a grand prix once?
Its a fantastic performance by Hamilton in a awesome race. McLaren’s Pit Strategy and Hamilton’ talents was remarkable.

a while ago, someone asked for picture of our tv. christine finally made us set it up properly this weekend: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sidepodcast/5628039767/in/photostream
Ooh that's lovely!
ohhhhh!!
You've bought the same/very similar one to mine downstairs. Tis nice.
Awe and then some!
the usefulness of iplayer built-in cannot be overstated.
Built into the TV?
ohhhh my aunt has that. it's fabulous.
yeah. only downside is that the tv doesn't have wifi, you have to plug in an ethernet cable.
Evening.
Looks good.
Built in??
Sorry I appear to have completely missed the fact you have a TV from the future.
I barely use it so I can't really tell.
hehe. it's iplayer, but built into the television. hold on, i'll take another!
Greetings from snowy Tundraland! And I am supposedly in the warm part of the country. And people wonder why the track in Montreal is in such poor shape during the Grand Prix....
What YOU really need to wonder is if the snow has been cleared yet.......
Thats amazing!
My solution was slightly less high tech (lumping a desktop under it!)
If you have ethernet can you browse the web from it too?
http://sidepodcast.posterous.com/its-iplayer-inside-the-tv
Wow! Its like better than most pay tv setups i have seen! and all on demand!
MLB and stuff too.
oh yeah, i shall be signing up to that too :)
i think that picture just shows how awful the ipod camera is, actually. but you get the idea.
Strange... I have got some really good shots from my iPhone..
Very nice.
I get some iPlayer stuff via BT Vision, which I think is a recent deal so I'm still in the habit of going to the PC for it.
it's not an iphone camera.
Is it not the same camera? I assumed it was?
So all the LG logos in the press conferences worked
:D
evidently not: http://arstechnica.com/apple/reviews/2010/09/ipod-touch-4-vs-iphone-4-camera-fight-no-contest.ars
best not to go there ;)
When do I move in?
no chance. the ipod camera is worse than the first iphone camera. the ipad2 also has this same camera.
hehe
They need something to convince you to get an iPhone still.
The white iphone 4 is coming soon?
this looks like a handy site (via cali): http://magisto.com/
Ew, white.
we're now watching top of the pops from the 60's. i'm not sure it's all that :)
1976.
tv of the future has suddenly become tv of the 60's? and they call it progress...
oh, it's time travel capable? nice.
#TimeMachine !!!
I really love the idea though. I kinda want one but we dont really have an iplayer or anything beyond youtube here so i doubt they sell them

Ooooooooooh!
Yeah I still have to see this!
Oh yeah, so I tried Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed The Racing Game On A PC Near You today - I bought the first one when it came out and I can say while not perfect (it's too easy and the races are too short), it's a much better game than the first one.
Ironically much like the social network that is something else I simply cannot decide on getting. Part of me really wants to, the rest of me remembers shift 1 and shivers.
It's much better. Admittedly Shift 1 was only decent after a ton of modding. But there are a lot of people like you who have been put off by Shift 1.
Mine would be console based too so no modding, just the core game. The handling on Shift 1 was... ugh.
My next tweet is really funny:
"Especially given the race. Agreed, with a telling-off, I would be a one-off electronics glitch."
Yep. They really got it wrong!
I mean, you have arcade handling and you have sim handling. I can appreciate the different markets for the two and that they're made to be differently. But when you try to mix them together like shift 1 did, yikes!
GRID did a good job at it actually thinking about it but that's because Codemasters are so good at racing stuff, bugs aside ;)
we have a voicemail from RG. yeah baby!!
*punches the air*
The worst part was that these were some guys who used to work on the GTR games and split from SIMBIN!!!

I love that can powered car someone linked too earlier.... :D

....four.
Errrm I don't think it was that particularly. It was good right the way through but the end was decidedly lame.
That's just the worst, when a film disappoints after masses of buildup. At least with a film that's uniformally horrible, one can walk out after 10 minutes and cut one's losses.
