We're still coming down from the Race of Champions high, but now it is time to turn our attention back to Formula 1. There's more testing going on this week, so there should be plenty to keep our eye on, although it will no doubt be more of the same - not knowing who is actually fast, and who is just running 2008 rather than 2009 setups. Elsewhere:
- Mosley has admitted that the current points system isn't exactly ideal and it may even have been a mistake to bring it in. However, he doesn't want to bring in a new points system without consulting the public, as he doesn't want to confuse everyone. This just sounds so out of character!
- Hamilton missed out on the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, and if you look at the screen shot used for the BBC video story, he doesn't look too happy about it. I bet he's just wishing they could have duelled at the RoC cause he was bound to have won.
- Sebastien Loeb pipped DC to the Race of Champions trophy, which is really telling considering that Loeb was recently testing in the Red Bull. Was this just a demonstration of Loeb's multi-car skill, or would he have outshone DC in Formula 1 machinery as well?
Please feel free to share any thoughts or news you come across today, and don't feel limited by what I've mentioned above. I'll see you in the comments.
they changed it already. damn the bbc.
they figured it out, I guess.
did anyone upload the screenshot? :)
Good Morning, everyone!
morning :)
I'm confident that even 'me' would have outshone DC in Formula 1 machinery. And that's allowing for his efforts on the simulator at Silverstone. :P
Hey, Wolf's blog is on Google Ads! See toolbar on the right.
Has that been there for a while? :)
Well good morning everybody! Thought I'd start my day listening to a bit of my favourite guitar player Joe Satriani.
<object width="480" height="295"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FclrtPUquhQ&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FclrtPUquhQ&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="295"></embed></object>
No idea if that works. :P
erm....nope, it doesn't :P
This might just work a bit better.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=FclrtPUquhQ
If anyone has listened to Coldplay's Viva La Vida, you can hear they've kind of stolen the chorus from this song. Put the two together and they sound exactly the same (In the chorus that is, not the entire song.) Mind you, there's a video somewhere which plays both songs on top of each other and I have to say it actually sounds bloody awesome! As does this :P
This made me think this song would be great as the opening music for live shows. But then I remembered the podcast safe rules so it can never happen. Well, it could, Joe just doesn't need to find out ;)
Well as Joe is currently sueing Coldplay for copying his stuff it's probably not a good idea to step into the firing line.
Indeed.
So Santander the one bank largely untouched by the recession thus far have revealed they have a $3.1Bn exposure to Bernard Madoff piramid scheme. Not sure that's going to effect F1 hugely but there we are.
Yup. Thats quite a large chunk of change.
Other half is not happy as she's now having to spend time finding out all sorts of dull stuff that sends me to sleep.
Good morning all,
What a fantastic RoC!!!
Normally I wouldn't say this, but with the year that Sebastian Loeb had, I must say that he really is a fantastic all-round driver and truly worthy of the title "Champion of Champions"!
Nobody can hold a candle to him in the WRC and he is fast at everything he sits in - the way he beat Vettel also after crashing was amazing! I have said this many times before, but he should leave the WRC and win Le Mans for Peugeot!
On that note, the way David Coulthard drove was also brilliant. It was a fantastic way to bookend a great career and for me, his performance in the RoC makes up for all the mistakes in the terrible year he had :-)
Catch you later,
Gavin
Christmas question for you all...
Is it ok to buy yourself a big expensive present?
Erm...depends. What did you have in mind?
A copper coloured S2 Lotus Turbo Esprit....
it even shows up on my site :-)
can anyone explain to me, and perhaps also to Mr. Sebastien Loeb, how on Earth did he manage to win that race against Yvan Muller ? He almost decapitated the lady sitting next to him, totally reshaped the track, almost stopped the car, and still went on to win the race :-)
what a great show it was. the only problem is that it was on till 3am over here and that affects me a bit today ...
For real? Sweeeet. Well it is the time for giving and receiving, and you'd be doing just that - you'd be giving the seller the money and receiving the Esprit in return ;) So, on that note, I don't see why not :P
I was sat right in front of that as it happened! The whole audience gasped in unison as Loeb almost decapitated both himself and his plucky co-driver! His comeback was immense though and drew a standing ovation when he finished ahead of Muller.
The one thing I will say about motorsports fans is that they can appreciate each and every driver. It's not like football (soccer) over here where everybody suddenly gets tribal and starts hurling abuse just because they don't support a certain team/player.
The biggest cheer of the evening was for Priaulx though. Everybody was rooting for him as he came from behind to beat Mattias Ekstrom in the quarter-finals. Priaulx was clearly chuffed to bits and it was great to see.
i'm confused. why are you advertising your site... on your site?
isn't that going to create some kind of google ad paradox that'll see your readers start a chain reaction that will eventually bring about the end of the world?
awesome logic!
True, though. :P
As logic goes, it's pretty flawless.
Hmmm. Will have to think about it - other half may kill me though. I suspect it would be worth it :D
Other half is not adverse to the idea of a new toy for me. :D
She is going to take a look at the car with me tonight. She's not too keen on the description of the colour though. I did tell here it's the same colour as the one in the Bond film *it's actually almost identical to the one in the Bond film. ;)*
May have a new toy by the weekend if all goes well. :D
I hate reinstalling operating systems....Now doing my laptop - connected it to the network - you have new updates - install them - reboot
You have new updates! Install - reboot....
You have new updates! GO AWAY!
The Algarve looks pretty:
Where will that be replacing I wonder...
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/72487
Bernie is asking us to support the medal system idea. He must have seen the results of the poll on his site.
He's not giving up on them is he? Shame....
It's frustrating that the F1 site won't show the current polled results for Bernies medal idea. They do for every other poll, me thinks he know's he's gonnna take a kicking in the vote and wants to conceal it.
Algarve looks pretty tasty for December! Is that photo from the summer perhaps? Think i'm living in the wrong country!
Anyone see any footage from the FIA awards? Here's a link to video of the video they played before Lewis picked up his award. Kinda moving to see him and his dad reduced to tears at the end! Maybe the resident sidepodcast anti hammy fans will appreciate it!!
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=wueJ7bcjVTA
Two of them.
This is what F1 could look like next year!
I am confused too and trying to figure out why is it happening :-)
not a pleasant sight :-(
The Williams and the McLaren car look good (albeit ignoring those rear wings) but that BMW is criminal!! It's like Mario targeted the team to build the ugliest car imaginable!!
technically that williams has this years front nose. it'll be just as ugly as the beemer when the full body kit is plugged in.
the mclaren will be the same once they brave a rear wing too.
Really, doh
There was me thinking that was Williams as they will be next year!
I'm dreading the McLaren, no matter how they launch it with a 'twist' it's gonna look like the love child of a Force India and a Big Mac - Horrible!
the williams should look the best of the bunch if they retain the darker colour scheme. mclaren may suffer more than most with reflective paint.
minardi's paint scheme by comparison would have made for a lovely '09 spec car.
Why is it though Williams consistently produce the best looking cars each year? Other teams should take note! Doesn't matter they came nowhere this year, they had the best looking car hands down! Top teams should take note
I'm getting images of that old minardi looking like some expermental aircraft with those paint lines and the new shape cars.
Imagine the old March/Leyton house colour schemes with the new cars...buggly ugly as my g/f would say
On another note my band practices 2 buildings down from Honda in Brackley ('Bumblebee's Playhouse' for locals on here - I've even served Mr Fry in Barclay's!) and usually you see lights on etc even on Sunday nights. Last night the place looked deserted, not even the secruity gate looked manned, maybe a sly chance to steal a F1 team there!!
Kinda ironic when you pull into Brackley they've still got that huge inflatable 'Earth Dreams' ballon/advert on the entrance. They have recently put up a Berlin style wall around the whole factory in the past few weeks. Maybe they're trying to stop Jenson and Brawn escaping to a new team - or perhaps droves of journalists breaking in for a scoop!
YES!
The trouble with that is only a fraction of the expense is in the purchase price. That could become unexpectedly expensive.
Shame that they have a new testing track just as in season testing gets banned. I am sure their bank manager will be pleased. Of course now Bernie can convince them and Jerez to apply for races to justify their existence and he can beat other tracks over the head with the increased demand.
The closest screengrab I can find of Hamilton at SPOTY is this:
It was a bit more sneery, I reckon. However, having watched the video all the way through in search of this shot, Hamilton is actually really gracious. Especially considering they have to stand and clap for about two minutes before Hoy even speaks.
Mind you, Hoy doesn't look all that happy in that screenshot either... and is he covering Adlington there? :)
We want 2009, we want 2009.
Sorry
I want 2009, I want 2009
Pretty track for a pretty place
Probably been told by the Mr. D to be gracious and not look to disapointed.
But doesn't the trophy look lovely :D
Hoy looked to be verging on tears throughout. And yes, that is Ms A.
That could put people off their dinner.
For those of you too young to know what we are talking about i have found a link to a Leyton House sportscar on ebay which has the same colour scheme. Imagine that 2009 BMW this colour.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Onyx-Porsche-962-C-Leyton-House-1988-Le-Mans-11-1-43_W0QQitemZ310106792704QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_ToysGames_DiecastVehicles_DiecastVehicles_JN?hash=item310106792704&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318
Remember top gear last night with the moris mariner responses, some of them here
may contain strong language, scrap that, will contain strong language
http://www.grandprixgames.org/read.php?5,830367
I've owned Lotuii before. Had an Elan Sprint for several years as a mobile restoration project and also an Elise for a year.
The one I'm looking at has already had a chassis replacement with a galvanised chassis so that will last. Bodywork looked immaculate and the engine eith a quick fingertip check was clean and tidy.
Been owned by a devoted lotusee and has a fairly small number of bills with it *which is very surprising for a Lotus. ;) *
We'll see what the other half says tonight.
i think we need to keep a list of 'words that describe the '09 chassis' :)
I'll keep that on the list of how not to describe the 09 chassis
I have several suggestions - but none that can be put here. ;)
Great, Marvelous and Stunning?
Lame, Weak, and Gayola are the only words that spring to mind at the moment regarding the new cars
Truuli does a Button. Toyota to win a race in 2009.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/72486
I'm liking this. :)
"I would love to ... but not in a forest because at the rate I've been crashing, it would make me clearly uncomfortable,"
The off-season Trulliometer is back! :)
:)
out of interest, any idea what flav did to upset joe?
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21045.html
technically of course it's all true, but a bizarre potted history of the man, and a peculiar way to end an f1 story... at the beginning of 2007?
question then... is this even possible?
"Another spectacular idea is to close the East Midlands Airport, which is located next to the circuit. This will stop any interference with flights and will mean that the airport facilities will be available for the race"
the whole airport? and is that from thursday to sunday?
more nonsense here: http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21044.html
I don't like to resort to logic but surely closing the airport will interfere with flights rather than stop any interference.
I doubt it is remotely feasible as the airport has contracts with airlines who in turn have contracts with suppliers, travel agents etc. In addition to all thos peopl be recompensed for the loss of business you have all the people who own and operate shops, cafes, car hire etc atethe airport.
That is without the knock on effect to airports where flights travel to and from and the fact that planes are going to be in the wrong place for th next day. It also affects anyone who has already booked flights.
I think it is a fair summary bu then I have never been a fan of Flavio or his team
I love the line in the Donington story that the lack of need for parking means they can have much bigger camping areas. How are people supposed to get thir camping gear there? On the bus?
:D
my favourite line of the whole (fantasy) story is this nugget:
"There is much enthusiasm for the idea in the Three City Region as the locals can see how they will benefit from the event."
someone's been watching too much postman pat, haven't you joe?
tis okay, apparently everybody lives in london, and therefore a train from the city to the venue is perfectly convenient.
why do i get the feeling that the motorsport business forum operates the same reality distortion field normally employed by apple?
Yeah, never heard of this strange place the called, the 'north'
the what!?!
is that the funny place with all the strange people who talk funny?
That's the one.
Hey wait!
you're not welcome apparently. unless you're prepared walk?
it's no coincidence, the famous guest on the grid will be none other than ian botham ;)
Good news
http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/081215090422.shtml
Just a rumour, but Bourdias seat then?
Nasty, nasty people you southeners.
Nasty.
Wait, i've just thought. What about people who can't walk? Disabled people and the like?
depends. are they from up north?
Clive has that in his blog today. I wonder if that's where h got the idea from.
would a seat go to loeb?
I would have thought that they would keep Loeb in the WRC and give him a year to prepare if they were thinking of running him in F1.
Williams' test team members looking for new jobs? Test team to be disbanded and the race team to take over all testing.
Rumour mill pointing that way.
thank you whoever posted this:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/williams93documentary
watching it now :)
makes sense. no point in keeping them on board if they're only needed when the racing is all done with.
i've said it before, but the '09 and '10 regulations are stupid and short-sighted beyond all comparison.
especially if they're from up north :P
:(
For those Mac users out there: OS X update is out today and I'm reading a lot of people are having issues through Software Update through their machines (incomplete files). Seems it would be safer to get your update direct from the Apple site when and if you decide to update.
I'm going with the Combo Update which never gives me issues
http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_6_Combo_Update
Sorry for the non-F1 interlude there but seemed important enough for an online forum
5.6 is out already?
Yup, today. Some multi finger track pad gestures added I think, plus the usual stability updates.
MacRumors has a long thread about it
Not to be confused with 10.6 Snow Leopard :D
loving the williams / prost debate over damon vs. mika.
if you have an hour to kill this is great viewing :)
Want to download the Williams docu when my traffic managemnt peak hours have passed (Damn Virgin Media)
streaming quality is ok though.
Think that still counts as downloading for Virgin. 400MB+ vid plus 700MB Apple file = :(
I can wait half an hour :D
are you in line for 50MB broadband anytime soon?
Don't think so, have just got onto 10MB which is nice, DL's are super quick but have to watch file sizes as easy to get carried away with those 1080p trailers
installing now. if i'm not back in 15mins, panic... or party, whatever ;)
Hope you backed up 1st :)
Looks as though WRC is going down the pan as well. Suzuki have said they will be leaving it, Subaru are rumoured to be announcing their departure tomorrow... they'll be nobody left soon!
Team SPC may happen yet, can we all chip in £1, $1 or €1 each :D
Remind you something?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
We're dooooomed, doooooooomed.
Shall we send a search party?
Would that be a Spotlight Search Party :)
:)
i survived the 5.6 upgrade :)
Well done, long reboot by any chance?
*Stops running around in circles screaming like an idiot
Thats great
Aw no, I've lost my voice
I can hear you. Oh wait, that's me reading aloud
yup :)
hehehe. it's only a dot-one release. wait until 10.6 comes out, then i'll be gone a real long time.
Hmm, Grand Central goodness. Time for the Quad core Mac for me then I think
The WRC has been heading that way for a while
oh dear, badly behaved mac. reportcrash running at 75% cpu and filling crash report directory with junk ever 4-5 seconds. nothing actually crashing though?
:(
btw, when is this weeks show set to be released to the world?
Hmm, have you done any meddling with OS X like stripping out languages and such?
In the words of the I.T. Crowd, have you tried turning it off and on again?
never. not recorded, i updated the wiki after you.
hehe. i did and it's stopped now.
odd.
Did you work out what the issues were. Another settings rollback?
Ah, and when vvill it be recorded? Or is there none?
And hows the megamix?
Oh god its mastermind.
gimmie 5 and i'll let ya know.
can't fit it in sadly. annoying cause i fancied a good moan about the '09 regs.
downloading skype calls when the mac went funny. will resume shortly.
Your specialist question is SidePodCast live shows and the technical challenges 2008 - present
:D
There's always next week, could be a bumper show
Speaking of bumper show, will this mean sidepodparty is on/off?
And since there is no Top Gear, will it start earlier than 9pm?
you can have a moan next week ;)
May be advisable if it's to be a lengthy show with the natural allowances for setting up
Christmas moan?
on.
no comment :)
during a party?
ok. problem with qmaster on startup. now removed qmaster from startup and all is well.
sadly that's apple's own software that's incompatible with it's operating system. kinda embarrassing.
That'll be in the kitchen then :D
are you not recording a show next week then?
:D
Who doesn't. I moan about the party usually on how poorly it has been decorated and labeled with those cheap and tacky '60 Today!!!'. Oh whoop-ti-doo, great, look at the ballons. BANG, oh, they've gone. What a shame. Oooh, food.
eww, cold chicken and pizza.
Yes, I don't like parties.
SidePodParty
yeah, the party. well, at least i swear that's what christine said last week.
Does this mean that sidepodcast is read by those who always (used to) end up in the kitchen (or on the stairs, lol) at parties?
Inbetween furious bouts of dancing, depending on the music
And... and... Dave will no longer be showing WRC coverage. Noes! I only have Freeview so can't watch Eurosport etc :-(
oh it's going to be the podcast! i thought the podcast was going to be recorded during the party... and that it would include the sidepoddie awards... therefore having some of the normal bits from the podcast like good week /bad week... sorry i must have miss understood. I am so tired today it's not true, i think the trip to London may have been more exhausting that i originally thought ;)
tis fine. no probs. as ever we're making it up as we go along.
is it not online?
There goes that T*rrents word again :D
:D
Apparantly I'm not allowed to got further south than Manchester.
Unless I walk.
yes you are. you just have to be prepared to walk it.
cars are satan remember. especially if you're heading towards a motorsport event.
What about Hydrogen fuelled electric cars, when you watch Top Gear you'll understand
Single handily the most hypocritical sentance I have ever heard :D
I love Donnington
Train?
National Express coaches... they do £1 each way to london from manc fairly often...
Would it be £1.30 from Newcastle to London then?
Who's going to Manchester?
R.G.'s walking there :D
haven't watched the last two episodes.
i think i'm a bit fed up with the thinly veiled f1 references that have suddenly become topical since the beeb acquired the rights off of bernie.
:D
Ah yes, it's the easiest way. :P
not in vogue any more sadly. apparently all trains leave from london, and to hell with every one else.
so says grandprix.com anyhow.
No, I'm walking from Newcastle to Donnington.
Might just get there in time for the race in 2010 if I set off tomorrow.
Then find its gone back to Silverstone and the refund and new tickets are in my home
Think that was a one off, their back to ripping into lorry drivers and caravans again
The Ford Fiesta test (yes really) last week was something to behold
:D Probably
so far there's been:
- mika
- a super aguri rear wing
- congratulating lewis (even though they had no clue)
probably there's more. i know it's a popular program, but my interest hit zero pretty much from episode 1 this series.
surely you'll get there and find it's moved to egypt?
For me, each episodes been getting better and usually funnier
How about I do it for charity.
The Sidepodcast Technological Advancement Association and Charity (STAAC)?
I Didn't Kill Franck Montagny
or
For the Love of God Work
That was thorough, to put it lightly. :P
i'm absolutely in the minority in this country and the rest of the world :)
Ah from Newcastle you need 'megabus' for small fares...
prrrrttt to london as the centre of the universe!! There are plenty of cities far nicer! Anyway - since when has donnington been in 'the north'? Its in the sodding midlands!
That's a lot of walking...
you should read this:
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21044.html
The Inaugural Lesotho Grand Prix!
oh but once you get there, totally worth it i'm sure :)
It's North of Watford ain't it :D *ducks under table*
:D Aye, probably will.
Set off tomorrow, get to Donnington for around May 2010, realise its been cancelled, go back home for about May 2012 (I'll be fitter), realise its been back at Donnigton, go back there for June 2013, realised I missed the 2013 British GP (won by Sebastian Vettel, his 6th win of the season), carry on walking for the 2015 Portugese GP, only to realise Moroccan pirates have destroyed the circuit and walk home for the 2017 British GP to be held in a new track in Ipswich, realise F1 was went bankrupt and everyone likes oval racing.
£1?! it cost me more than £12 to get to London yesterday by train, and that doesn't include the scary underground :(
I like the 2009 chassis.
Join the minority club.
hahah.
The underground is good for the immune system... if you survive it :)
yesterday's ep had only one reference to f1 i think... and that was just about a sentence i think.. it was more of the mad top gear we all know and love :)
You got a reasonable far to london then...
Apart from that - get an oyster card for 'round london' cos it doesn't expire....
i must say i think i prefer many of the older series, where they did more road tests, and talked more about cars... i mean i still love it, but it has changed.
They did quite a few road tests yesterday actually.
Seeing as we're on the subject, turns out everyone's favourite american drifter is set to present USA Top Gear next year.
A victim of it's own success I think
Saw Jeremy being interviewed somewhere and he intimated that they get a share of the international profits when it's sold abroad.
The show is kinda less Briitsh market centric these days
I can't be the only person who tunes out when JC is speaking though?
Mind you - this is when I have to ask to whom you are referring?
Oooo - what about who you'd replace on TG, and with whom?
the underground is not good for my nerves ;) it seriouslt isn't. yesterday we had to go 17stops from one side of London to the other... 17 cramped stops too many for me.
vb-h, plato and the younger bloke who's name i forget :)
we have a family card travel thing... and in total it cost us something like £29 for all train travel... but it was worth it :D
You see, that's why they put adverts above the seats. So Londoners don't have to look at or talk to each other :D
Mr. Tanner Foust (was in the roc).
yeah i know :) but i think in total comparing the old series (like series 7 and 8 maybe to this last series, i prefer the older series) :D
What ever happned to TG dog?
Actually, I'm not sure I wanna know...
Absolutely, although if the link posted earlier is to be believed, the Morris Marina that they set fire to was a recently restored example that Top Gear purchased saying it was for a tribute show. That's not so funny, but on the other hand, what did the vendor expect based on previous shows?
They totalled another one this week
Plato as seen with Bill and Ted, or someone else?
Actually, the lack of 'female' is one thing that consistently p-s me off about TG... just a whole genders viewpoint completely missing!
(something that means Christine is a particularly welcome addition to all things F1 :-) )
actually, now you mention it, i quite liked the german top gear line-up (assuming that was actually true).
I watched the Williams 93 documentary. Really interesting. I can't believe how young Geoff Willis looked
erm she is Richard's dog so i'm guessing she is at his home with his family... and i'm not sure she took too kindly to the cameras etc so she isn't seen often.
According to Wikipedia, her name is Tee Gee or TG...
i found something out the other day... the top gear audience must have an equal percentage of guys and girls. So i suppose they try... but yeah it would be good to have a woman's pov on the show, then again it would be totally different then wouldn't it? i'm not sure it would totally work...
I don't think the guy in the suit was for real...
I though that was Jeremy wanting the ladies at the front but is quite likely to be a BBC Equal Ops thing
Ah, ok. :)
Ah - so this is the dog currently being falled over by the builders in Mrs H's Express magazine column then?
(I got a rare hour on my own on sunday, and it was sitting there on the table in the cafe, wouldn't *buy* the express, iykwim...)
Oh yes, exactly - same here
How are people supposed to get thir camping gear there? On the bus? {Steven Roy - 135 comments ago}
On their backs, I guess...
*rolls eyes at the organiser's short-sightedness*
Even I can't do that all the way there, and I live in the same county (almost)...
Anyone seen this?
http://www.crash.net/poll.asp?poll_id=102
Crash.net Poll of F1's biggest gaffe of 2008.
-Raikkonen crashing into the back of Sutil in Monaco
-Hamilton crashing into Raikkonen in the Montreal pit-lane
-Massa spinning five times in the rain at Silverstone
-Raikkonen crashing away victory and his title hopes at Spa
-Massa dragging his re-fuelling rig with him in Singapore
-Coulthard's first corner exit in final race of his F1 career
-Hamilton letting Vettel slip past in closing laps in Brazil
-Ferrari celebrating Massa title win too early at Interlagos
-Other
Cant i vote for them all?? :D
yes, but what would you put for other?
it is true (i think) i believe it's the presenters of the German equivalent to top gear called D-Motor
Anything to do with Max
Bernies Medals :D
But the guy in the suit isn't on that show, is he?
<
although i say that....its only 15th December....plenty more time for the FIA to take Hamiltons championship away :P
can they do that? now the 08 season has technically ended?
nooo idea... it's just what i have read around the internet... so it's probably wrong. i shouldn't imagine he would be on the show... but then again he wasn't that bad at driving....
“There is much enthusiasm for the idea in the Three City Region as the locals can see how they will benefit from the event.”
someone’s been watching too much postman pat, haven’t you joe? {me - 135 comments ago}
That's not Postman Pat talk. That is Midlands talk.
you think the FIA has rules? pah! lol
tis okay, apparently everybody lives in london, and therefore a train from the city to the venue is perfectly convenient. {me - 135 comments ago}
It's convenient for me, and I'm from the north. The problem is for people with no direct link to Derby or Sheffield. They're going to have a nightmare trying to use mass transit to get to Donington.
Anybody would think someone wanted it to fail!
Wait, i’ve just thought. What about people who can’t walk? Disabled people and the like? {Jon Waldock - 127 comments ago}
I think they're hoping they'll catch the bus. But some disabled people can't use buses either and rely on people giving them lifts in cars. They will have a major accessibility problem.
during a party? {me - quite a lot of comments ago}
Sure. You could do "complaint charades". You act out your F1 grievance and we have to guess what it is.
:D
Disabled visitors will probably be allowed to drive all the way in - otherwise there would be a clear case for a discrimination suit.
That's how Max & Bernie prefer their complaints - silent
Does this mean that sidepodcast is read by those who always (used to) end up in the kitchen (or on the stairs, lol) at parties? {littlepurplegoth - 83 comments ago}
I usually end up in the living room, tucked up with one of my guest's books with my fingers in my ears, unless it's a small party. Does that count?
not in vogue any more sadly. apparently all trains leave from london, and to hell with every one else.
so says grandprix.com anyhow.
Evidently Joe Saward hasn't seen this week's timetable. East Midlands Parkway is supposed to be on the Nottingham-London route, which means there will be two trains per hour going there from Sheffield (one starting at Liverpool Lime Street and the other from Warrington Central). One ends in London but the other ends in Norwich.
Hopefully this won't lead to too many confused people singing adapted versions of "Oh, Mr. Porter" come race day.
Kind of hard to do that and remain anonymous
Heck and on a sunday right through next year, most fast trains out of st Panc. Liverpool street and Euston/kings cross are, um, interupted at some point by 'work'
I don't think that gp.com have much of a grasp of anything that isn't 'the car' somehow... and they need a geography lesson....
although i say that….its only 15th December….plenty more time for the FIA to take Hamiltons championship away {Jon Waldock - 14 comments ago}
They can't. Once the WMSC ratifies the championship (which has to be done before the FIA Gala, because all FIA championships must be ratified before the trophies are given away), no result within them can be changed, even if someone has complete proof that Rob the Window-Cleaner should have won because he completed all the race distances before any of the other drivers even got round the first corner each time.
Thank goodness for statutes of limitations!
there's always a flaw :(
:)
like i said earlier. steve's reality distortion field hit the monaco forum.
Anybody would think someone wanted it to fail! {Bassano Clapper - 11 comments ago}
I really, really want it to succeed. It would be a fantastic honour for my county and its next-door neighbour to have an event of that stature run well on its soil. I just think they're shooting themselves in the foot to some extent on this point, even if I can see why they're doing it.
Disabled visitors will probably be allowed to drive all the way in - otherwise there would be a clear case for a discrimination suit. {Andy Taylor - 11 comments ago}
Good point. The DDA is pretty strict, and I'm not 100% convinced that "Oops, we didn't have enough parking" would sway the court. I'm worried that, "Oops, we had no parking at all" might.
As long as we have a British Grand Prix I'm willing to give Donnington some support
(I'll be thinking of Silverstone though)
I suppose we could watch Christine guessing but that would just be odd.
Kind of hard to do that and remain anonymous {Steven Roy - }
me can get a volunteer to act out his ideas, such as Jia-Tou - or cover himself in a giant blanket when he does his charades.
:D
How about in a giant panda suit. Now that would be comedy
:D
That could be entertaining
That must happen. :P
I agree, this is one of the best ideas I've seen today.
How about it Me?
That would get round all th annonimty issues. We could have had 'me' in a panda suit making cup cakes or 'me' occasionally getting on camera in a panda suit.
yeah, cause then nothing whatsoever could go wrong with all the electrical equipment that barely functions anyhow.
i would spontaneous combust under those studio lights quicker than you could say "spinal tap's drummer"
no
no
no
thats a yes then :P
no
Ah, please. It's what your fans want
Some say...
no
don't care
Wait till Christine finds out, she'll be up for it
i'll second that ;)
and that :)
We need Christine's view on this. I am sure she will say yea then it is a done deal.
Is that a no then, me?
me is not The Stig...
hehee XD
noooo1
Thinking of which, you don't happen to have a convenient motorcycle helmet you could use to help obscure your identity?
that is... absolutely, categorically not.
the room is the size of a shoe box and i podcast sitting on a inflatable ball!!
how about dressing like the stig then?
But that is not as entertaining as a panda suit
where would my headphones go?
that happens to be white? a simpson helmet?
oh and an alpinestars white race suit??
yes? thought so
Well then how about 'lego website model maker' style?
(basically the hands in front of the camera only :-) )
I think charades could be made to work that way quite easily.
Heck - I majored in radio. And there are almost no photos of me in existance (and what there are are only flattering...)
Besides if this means that Me is a member of the 'family'... would he show up anyway?
(oh gord, that takes me back to the days of overnight muds and running round the countryside with rubber swords...)
You could get some nice in-ear ones.
we'll ask Christine in the morning ;) it could be worse. we could be asking you to do a dance too ;)
i would, except i just said i hate top gear and don't watch it.
me can't be the Stig, he talks.
the answer is still no.
exactly. perfect.
now tell everyone why i can't be a panda.
that's ok. The stig can't watch top gear from the box they keep him in anyway ;)
where would my headphones go? {me}
Now I hadn't taken that into consideration. Good point. In that case, I'm a bit stuck. Maybe put a screen between you and the camera so that we just see the silhouette (assuming a thin enough screen can be placed in the room to allow you and Christine to move once it's in place)?
Because vampires don't like bamboo
now tell everyone why i can’t be a panda. {me - 2 comments ago}
Because Jia-Tou might get confused?
excellent. thank you.
Pre-record? Get a Panda suit and find somewhere to dance? Put on drop.io?
ahhh, or worse, might find me attractive.
no
i know you're all googling panda costumes for me... now stop it!
ooo i've had an idea... why not draw it instead? you have a tablet right? either that or you could just draw it on old fashioned paper...
i wasn't... but now...
ok
and then make it into a cupcake decoration?
Some of us remember the talking pandas from Who Dares Wins
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=4964214
Start from about 2 minutes in - warning: swearing!
A referal to ISIHAC may be in order if you are going to insist on charades....
Actually no, if me truly is a vamp... no, not a good idea, do not want to go there... there is a MUD in *that* story, and some norwiegens, and a *lot* of alcohol, and..., and.... well, stairs.....
I loved that show
Because the increased competition would send Bibendum over the edge?
Ah come on, it's not that bad... :P
gah!
no
Reminding us what Lionel Blair used to do for Christopher Biggins while Una Stubbs watched? :)
wow i was expecting you to say no :)
i won't catch fire drawing.
Give us a Clue as Humph used to describe it:
"We all recall how film titles were demonstrated in mime against the clock by the grand master of the game, Lionel Blair, who would use just his hands to delight his teams' members. None of use can forget the relish with which he once gave Melvyn Hayes and Christopher Biggins Yanks for two whole minutes."
This is a sidepodparty, I wouldn't be so sure... :P
Me too, saw them live too.
Because a panda costum could protest your annonimity at the Autosport show. Hang on that is is a reason why you should dress like a panda. I am hopeless at excuse.
Who needs Absinthe when they have sidepodcast comments?
What other 'games' are you planning then?
i will accept anything that doesn't involve catching fire.
Am enjoying the Season Strokes comic strips on Drop.io
Thanks to the owner/uploader
how do you explain to the man on the gate you came to a trade show (for cars) dressed as a giant panda?
Who says you have to explain it?
You mime it.
lol you'd catch fire if you were in a panda suit? do you have naked flames in that room? ;)
:D
:D
no, hot studio lights:
http://flickr.com/photos/sidepodcast/1134722053/
hmmm... might have to resort to odd shaped dice and bits of paper, and a large collection of books that I may or may not have...
(LPG whistles)
You tell him you are th Stig in disguise or you leave Christine to explain it. Besides I am sure there is no condition of purchase of tickets that says you can't wear a panda suit.
That's most of my ideas out the window... :P
haha, as long as you have your ticket, i'm not sure he would care.
what the heck do i do if he does mind?
You could always change when you get inside
ah i see. you could dress in a racing suit... that won't catch fire :P
actually yes:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/09/28/the-morning-show-for-the-night-race/
top left of the preview pic.
I worked for a company years ago and quite a few videos were mad while the plant was in production. It is amazing how much damage a light like that can do when it has been on for a couple of hours before it hits someone on the back of the head because someone knocked over the 15 foot high pole it was on.
*That* is when you tell him you are The Stig incognito
ok, what about the karting?
He will have a crash helmet on for that
The Stig outfit
you'll have t change into a race suit anyway right?
so it wont matter... you could always get a panda livery on your helmet ;)
Why does the Panda have a Rhino's horn?
If the panda costume isn't an option you could dress like Batman.
I'd like to see that
and a sailors suit?
why???
Less of a fire risk. Not so hot to wear and still protects your anonimity
Because batman conceals his identity too.
or you could dress up as Bibendum?
not very well though. you can see most of his face.
oh god
I searched for panda crash helmet and this was the best I could get. I think the pandas would like it but not for the intended reason
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/crash-gear/bamboo-helmet-from-roof-is-for-eco-petrol+heads-293020.php?=
Poor Me... he's going to spend the show and the carting avoiding cameras like the plague at this rate... :-(
i've done pretty well so far. it's only a matter of time though.
but would it matter?... if he was dressed up... no one would know it was him. ;)q
See it is only logical to wear the panda suit
You could wear glasses. It works for Clark Kent :)
If you are going to go down this route, poor Me would have to bribe several others into wearing matching outfits...
... and then you'd all end up looking like a dodgy stag party...
On which note - did anyone see the bit in the sunday torygraph where Bernie says that he won't be getting divorced?
on that note, i have to go to sleep! i may log on in the morning, or i might be to frightened.
Oh really, that's what Madonna's people were saying until recently
aww night 'me' :)
'night Me
Well - I was thinking more along the lines of 'I'll do anything you like, you can have what you like, live whereever you want to, just don't divorce me and take away my little motor cars.......'
I'm going to sleep now, because if I don't I'll be attempting to make cake in the morning when I'm not safe around ovens...
Oh - nihtg Me... as well
hehe, night littlepurplegoth, Good luck with the cake baking tomorrow :)
Like the Thomas Crowne Affair
Oops! Looks like no daily post for today til the morning then. Oh well. :D
Me as a panda? That's AWESOME!!! :D
Just noticed the header has changed. :)
That's the one you used before, right?
The comments explain what happened in the last hour and a half better then we ever could. :P
Did it? Header's still the same to me.
You not got the beemer?
hehe both Christine and 'me' forgot. Obviously this isn't working too well ;) i always say the next day starts when you wake up anyway :)
ah cool, :D tis nice, not a fav though i don't think.
I think it looks similar to one they have had before.. there has been a BMW, not sure if it's the same though.
I don't know if it was used before but I quite like it.
Nope. Not even ctrl+f5 does it for me.
To see it, I used brute force, by viewing the image URL directly. Is this the beemer in sepia?
tis true. :) franck isn't enough anymore, what a shame. :P
nope, slightly different. 6 used in total, we'll review them all and have a poll next week :)
If me brings his own helmet, avoiding identification in the karting should be fairly simple. Before that might be an issue, unless he wants to wear an absolutely massive and ridiculous wig-and-makeup combination. Or a mask.
can do. but i'm not decorating it like a panda.
