It's Jarno Trulli's birthday today, the Italian hitting the grand age of 35 years old. I wonder if he will have any of his wine to celebrate the day, or if he will be sulking over finishing the German Grand Prix in 17th place, whilst his pitlane starting friend in Glock ended up 9th. Poor Trulli. Anyway, here's some other things going on today:
- The stewards thought about it for a while and decided not to issue any penalty to Sutil or Raikkonen, deeming their collision to be a racing incident. Can't think why it took them so long to come to a decision, but who are we to question what the stewards do, eh?
- Ross Brawn took another step along the "really quite a very good team boss" path, as he handled the Barrichello incident beautifully. Whilst I personally loved seeing a driver stamping his foot a bit, Brawn wasn't ruffled and said they'd talk about it and things would be fine.
- If you want to catch up on all things Sidepodcast, we've got a Parade lap replay you can enjoy, plus the live stream of the Debrief and the delightful edited version as well. There should be an F1 Digest to consume later on today.
That should keep you busy for a while, but if you're bored with all that, then feel free to share what's on your mind as the day wears on. I will see you in the comments.
Yay it's Jarno's birthday! Happy birthday to him :)
I hope there is a trulli train in celebration
Time for me to sleep, thanks for your kind words about my photos ;) night all!x
night lou.
night lou
Oh! Photos!
Thanks for the photos!
Night
I just watched the end of the ashes test. Monty the hero... I am sure Amy will be pleased :)
Morning everyone.
hi sean
Okay, grilling is done, beer on board, what's up
Not the Shuttle, apparently.
I have lost a phone number. this is not good
True, but the State of Florida knows all, so it will go up....eventually
Listening to rubens again...
I can conclude he is very mad. He slated the team massively to both Lee and Holly.
Were they trying to move him to a 2-stoppper when the fuel rig had problems?
Apparently, it isnt clear though.
I don't know if this is geolocked. http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/cff1/
Will have a look later.
I can see why he is angry, but not good form to air it like that.
He had radio problems as well apparently so he wasnt sure what was happening
Ah. I see.
No. They decided to keep him on a 3 but he thought that because his pits stop was so long they had switched.
As did everyone else.
They were saying in the friday press conference that everyone has simed the present tactics so much that everyone knows exatly what they are doing.
But with the field so close this year it amazes me brawn are throwing in 3 stoppers as if their car is a second a lap quicker.
Apparently croftie had a bet on heidfeld?
oops!
Maybe the tyres can't handle a lot of fuel load if they never get in temperature.
I must say, given their pace, and the RBR pace, i'm surprised both Brawns were not changed to a two stop.
That is a possibility, but they dont seem to be able to get them working properly even with light fuel
I was thinking more in the wear of the tyre. Maybe if they are outside of the operational temperature AND you load them too much, they get destroyed too fast. So better be in a planed 3-stop than get into one because your tyres disappear in the middle of one of your 2-stops stints...
When they did their second stop it was half of the race. It would have taken them a lot of time to put that fuel on, and they would have been really slow after that. Jenson made a couple of overtakes after his second stop because he was light. The moment to change strategy was the first stop, and at that moment Rubens was comfortably leading the race...
OK, good point. I thought the second stop was later. Seems they did have tyre issues as well.
I am a bit disapointed with this Fantasy Racer thing this year. Having being a race late last year, I decided to take a gamble and choose both RBR drivers and Brawn driver from the start. Leaving me enough money to choose one other driver each week as a ring-in (I guess it could be classed as my teams test driver).
Even with the four best drivers out there I am only averaging 700 point or so a week GRRRR.
So a decision has been made to drop the “Grumpy man with scary teeth” aka Woobins and pick up a couple more test drivers.
Hopefully this will give me enough points to bring “miniracers” into the first page of the Sidepodcast league.
I thought it was odd they kept Barrichello on a 2 stopper and it was odd that the back up fuel rig was programmed to give less fuel than the main rig.
Good luck with your strategy.
Maybe the backup was programmed for Jenson's three-stop?
Rubens wasn't also in a 3-stop?
Maybe. I am not sure what the gap between their stops was or how long it takes to set a rig to a new amount.
Yes
Then I don't find nothing odd about the second rig. It was programmed to give him fuel for a three stop strategy, as expected for the first. Rubens thought he was changed to a 2-stop because of the time, but they were always in a 3-stop strategy (which would have worked better without those 5 extra seconds)
Better-ish. Ferrari and Williams should never have beat them. I guess the slow cars on the track caused that.
yeah, by better I was referring to 'best of the rest' after RBR ;-)
The final result was really down to Kovalainen then Massa holding up faster cars.
and how annoying is that? Second race in a row the lack of ability to pass has spoiled what could be a good race
I still think that this race was more exciting than some others this season. It was still won in the pits and on strategy rather than on the racetrack, but it wasn't as processional as some other races we've had this season.
I'm going to dinner. Have a good night/day!
See ya.
Yeah it doesn't really pay off to have all the expensive drivers in your team. For example for Germany the best team (I think) for you would have been: Webber
Rosberg
Alonso
Massa
Sutil
Fisichella
Kubica
Heidfeld
which would have added up to about 960 points.
We really need someone to right some good technial regulations to massively cut aero then we can have racing
Have you given up sleeping now?
I am going to bed. I am up way too late again. I blame NASA for my disappointment. Hopefully Monday night's launch will actually happen.
Good night/morning all.
No I go to bed at 6am and sleep until 3pm. All is perfect :)
That is an interesting approach. I wish I could do that but I really need sleep now. Good night.
Michael Kornbrekke's comment made me look into the points/money for this race and which combination of drivers would have been best.
Quite fun :D
Gordon Murray
Night Steven
actually not fun, it's given be a headache. I'm off too.
Good night everyone
Somehow I've managed to finish and knock out a blog post before work this morning
http://zerodownforce.blogspot.com/2009/07/f1-2009-super-season-grid-post-germany.html
Are you Amy? ;)
If you thought the stewards were a bit suspect in the F1, then don't read this post from Martin Haven about the GP2 race...
WooHoo! He has a new fan.
You really need to hear him when he has a rant on Midweek Motorsport. He's the world champion of ranting!
Morning, everyone.
Good news-bad news time:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/formula_1/article6689736.ece
The good news: CVC is pressuring Bernie to go - or at least relinquish his day-to-day duties.
The bad(?) news: It's rumored that Flavio will take over Bernie's role. Why bad(?) Flavio is OK in my book, but some of his proposals (like shortening race distances) are not my cup of tea.
Not to mention a VERY good commentator. You should have heard him work the GP2 Sprint Race yesterday. His commentary on Petrov's penalty in particular (he even said WTF as an acronym) was nothing short of superb.
Hmm, I wonder if thats good or bad news. Who is worse, Bernie or Flavio? I agree that it is possibly both good and bad news.
Indeed and that's what Max was complaining about the other week.
CVC's legal position with Bernie is quite complicated. They can't actually fire him as I understand it. He just will become less prominent.
In my opinion what we're talking about is Flav being the negotiator at the races on Bernie's behalf.
I have a copy of it and I can't wait ... these next 4 weeks shall be Motorsport Catchup time!
I don't know, I think Flavio is a very good businessman who knows what makes people tick. I think he says a lot of the things he does just to get people to think about the subject rather than seriously propose it...
sounds like description of Max Mosley a bit :-)
Yeah a little. Remember though, this is the guy that helped nurture the careers of Schumacher, Trulli, Fisichella, Alonso and Webber, which I hold him in high regard for...
More Bernie than Max, actually, but yes, you have a point there, Wolf.
Bernie also has a history of managing drivers (most notably Piquet Sr), but nowhere near as good as Flav (who, funnily enough, has Piquet Jr on his payroll).
Which is why they'd ask him to "move upstairs" and relinquish day-to-day duties. He'd take on an emeritus type of role, instead.
That said, if anyone's going to take over Bernie's role, at least it's someone who has knowledge of how F1 works, rather than some anonymous suit.
Even brought Button in too before changing his mind.
I thought he was involved with Button.
The man has a good record with spotting and developing talent hasn't he?
I really don't understand how Flav would be able to do this role and continue to run Renault. Does this essentially mean the end of Renault?
I do remember, though, that Flav decided to leave Bourdais in the cold after he had a disagreement on future plans. Because of that, it took Bourdais many years before he got another crack at F1.
Indeed. And he seems he may have been right to do that.
Maybe that was a good decision after all, considering how Bourdais has done in F1 (Sorry Christine)?
On the subject of Bourdy I see him alternating between Peugeot and IndyCar duties from now on... I think he's much better suited to those series...
he does, with exception of his last two Renault rookies perhaps :-)
Exceptions that prove the rule perhaps? ;)
I feel a blog post coming on here... anyone know where I can find a list of drivers that Flav has helped along or managed in some way?
Morning everyone.
Morning :)
afternoon
He's always had clunkers in there to be honest. He knows that sometimes to get the good drivers you need to make a deal with their managers about somebody else.
I have woken up to find this:
http://iheartfranck.com/about-me/#comments
voila, franck has discovered himself :-)
Hehe :)
Wow! So cool. :D Does your admiration of him go up a couple of notches? ;)
No need to apologize - Christine fell out with Bourdais quite some time ago. :D
But then you could ask - if he had entered earlier, would he be any better (considering his best years would be ahead of him, rather than behind him)?
Have you tried Wikipedia?
Woweee :)
I like the idea that he was "just surfing the internet" which really means "googling myself."
:)
Or as it's known a "vanity search".
I prefer Stevipedia when it comes to F1...
Wow - Natali Del Conte and now Franck Montagny. Awesome Stuff!
careful,he might be reading :-)
I sat almost opposite him before the start of Le Mans. The buzz around that car was cool!
Everyone does it!
For someone who started in clothing rather than motorsport, I am amazed how good Flav is in finding good talent.
My Vanity Search revealed an author, a Rugby League PLayer and some Mathematics Professors (ironically I am a Mathematician, so that was cool!)
The founder of Stevipedia will be the first to tell you he's not so reliable when it comes to more modern history. ;)
Morning all
WOW!! Awesome :) so now both rob and franck know who you are/of your exsistence :)
Well, Franck says he doesn't know who runs it. But... I have his email address so life is good :)
I heart Mondays.
You should so send him a letter... it sounds like he would really appreciate it ;)
OK I will research it then. I have other sources too...
aww :) I'm getting the impression blogs really are great things to have ;)
I may just do that, once I've figured out how not to sound like a crazy stalker.
Blogging is the bestest thing ever.
They are, just require updating which I haven't done for a while :D
Agreed. I get a real kick out of writing my posts now and seeing that people are looking at them!
id have the same problem with jenson to be fair... Lol you should tell Franck about spc :)
Ladies and Gents...
I have made my endorsement.
awww :)
Love it, well done sir!
Do it now!
:D
I was about to start anyway :D
:)
Bernie says he's not going anywhere, people are just making up stories. And he's fixing F1 and it will be done within 48 hours:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76942
two key quotes:
"I hope to have a Concorde Agreement in place by Wednesday. Max [Mosley] will be happy when we have it sorted. He will have achieved everything he set out to achieve including a new agreement and cost-cutting. He will then be in a position to do what he said he would do and step down. But as for me, I'll be around for the future."
and
CVC said:
"Bernie Ecclestone will remain in post," he explained. "There's no question of moving him into an honorary position or upstairs. There has never been any doubt about
that.
"There have been no meetings to discuss it. Bernie knows me well enough to know his position is not under threat. He runs the business and does so very well.
"We did not like what he said about Hitler. He knows that and it was dealt with. That's the end of the matter. There never was anything more to it than that."
Where's your GMM bit? ;)
not sure if you read the German GP edition of GrandPrixPlus mag, here are the best bits:
the title - Aussie Rules :-)
the parting shot (not too hard to guess who is on the picture)
Ah it's Jonathon Noble it must be okay
Yeah but what about YOUR GMM bit like you mentioned in the parade lap yesterday?
Ah yes sorry!
GMM: Bernie to take over the FIA, FOM and FOTA within 48 hours claims Bernie. The pretense that I'm not in charge has gone on long enough
Jonny Noble is at the track, he's very much OK when it comes to reporting a story!
The interwebs appears to be broken at my office and yet the doohickey still works.
Mr C has really worked some magic with this thing!
wow
I am honestly convinced they can't move him upstairs. It's not that kind of role he's in.
He is the awesomeness as many have commented before :)
Well, at least the important stuff works.
Okay so I'm at my friends and am pretty shattered, so my friend and I just walked down to her local shop and I bought my first can of red bull... So far my opinions are that it tastes alright.
Of course it tastes alright. It's Red Bull! Anything Red Bull is good! ;)
Oooh, yes! It's a slippery slope. :)
ooooh Andy Roddick is #5 in the world now
haha
That almost sounds like a vote of confidence - which is almost always the last thing that happens before someone is sent off.
Morning all.
Wow. How did that happen - was he playing this week for him to pass Del Potro? Whatever happened, good on Andy. :)
I don't think either of them played, but this time last year Del Potro won in Stuttgart and by not defending it he lost 500 points, so now Andy is 15 points ahead even though neither of them have done anything in the last week. Tennis rankings are weeeeird but I guess theres honestly no easier way of doing it :D
They aren't that wierd are they. It's just a rolling chart, similar to other rankings, or charts like last.fm and stuff.
On an aside, I don't like Andy roddick. ;)
Yeah they're just rolling so your points are only ever 52 weeks worth. So many people get confused by them, but I think its more that this year they changed the value of all the tournaments and doubled last years points to match the new higher values.
In other news, why have they started advertising Magnums on TV? I am trying not to buy them anymore but everytime I see the ad I remember how good they taste...
I didn't notice they had stopped to be honest.
Yeah, that's what I suspected - del Potro dropping some points.
Wow, Amy - I'm surprised at the level of knowledge you have in 2 different sports.
The funny thing is I actually know nothing about either :D Stupid memory that doesn't seem to absorb sports!
I know a LOT more about football than Formula 1. I don't know much about Formula 1 compared to most of you guys.
For once I'm still in my work clothes so am dressed to go outside. Can't...resist...lure...of.....shop....with....icecreams.....
Christine you will be pleased, I have updated my blog ;)
Christine linked to this a few weeks ago how come Serena wasn't number 1 in the rankings here
Turns out it rewards consistent scoring and not just winning Grand Slams. Good for the sport or encourages burnouts?
did Mark really win yesterday? :)
if you're after Trulli's wine, the website is also in english.
http://www.poderecastorani.it/
that's me done for now. hello and goodbye. and I'm sure Steven has mentioned it, but the space shuttle is vaguely ready to go. launch might be in about 13 hours so you can probably watch them suiting up in a few hours. ciao ;)
Tempted but wine is so cheap locally right now
I think good for the sport because watching tournaments where the highest seeded player is ranked 80th in the world sucks. For people who only watch tennis four times a year it'd be great, but not for year-round fans.
yeah but it's not made (or perhaps more accurately owned) by an f1 driver :) i live here and i still haven't had any. Might order some this week though.
Probably cheaper to buy a tshirt
Excellent. I will check it out when my internets returns.
:D
I have an idea for another post now, see what you've started :P
All part of the Sidepodservice :)
I was going to ask for Sidepodhelp on which Magnum to buy but odds are I'll just buy two. I always buy two.
:D
Anyone heard anything on Bourdais?
Woke up (kinda woke up but that's another story) to a text from a friend saying "See rubens has quit f1. maybe he shudda stayed retired lol"
Grrrrrrrr peoeple grrrrrrrrrr.
Was that you who was always texted by a Brawn-hating friend in the past? If that was you, is it the same person texting now?
It's someone at work yeah who tends to text me when something goes wrong for Brawn. Just not particularly nice to wake up to when you've had a pretty rough evening because of loud neighbours :(
Time for a change of number?
Have been thinking about it for a while seeing as my phone's getting a tad bit old now. I want an iPhone! But sadly there's this concept called 'money' that doesn't agree with me :)
I can heartily recommend the G1.
That quietly went away. Hehe.
Moving on, I'm surprised that JA hasn't updated his blog since Friday. Now, I know he usually has other stuff to do, but he usually finds time to update his blog at least after the race.
She didn't.
predictably.
Still sitting in the press conference room asking people stuff I reckon.
i did, yes.
I know the feeling; it's unrequited love I think. I love money, but it doesn't love me and keeps running away
:-(
all heard is Pavel Turek, Coulthard's business partner, former McLaren manager and today somehow connected with Red Bull (not sure in what capacity) saying that Bourdais out Alguersuari in is done deal. He also mentioned that Bourdais did not really fit into Red Bull image etc etc ...
Now then children; play nice!
if you want to hear mark webber's partner talking about mark webber's scream
http://media.smh.com.au/sport/sports-hq/webbers-family-on-that-scream-629806.html
awesome. ann sounds lovely.
and if you look closely on the same page you'll see they've got mark webber's picture mixed up with Al Gore's.... quality site.
Hehe, awesome!
can't say I've heard much about her. i wonder if mark really did have a lemon lime and bitters....
The Monday after a race? :P
Who's Turek? Business partner?
Bourdais not fitting in with RB's image? We all know that's a bunch of doo-doo - he was dumped because he wasn't quick enough, and that's that.
my decision making powers are getting worse. It took a lot of willpower not to buy all 7 kinds of Magnum
Sorry :(
there are 7?
maybe he doesn't need us, now he's back on the bbc?
classic, white, dark, caramel, coffee, peppermint, almond
Heh, didn't notice that.
http://www.cdtandpartners.com/about_us.php - that may help
and if you do some google on him and mclaren you may get some info
yikes. i had no idea.
Honestly, Mark Webber wins, James Allen gets on the BBC - has the world gone mad???
What a waste, only the Dark one makes the grade
or perhaps now he has a job, he has no time for blogs.
FakeDC says that's FakeEJ's drink ;)
Plus rubens finally gets angry. To quote REM.... it's the end of the world as we know it!
thats NSW for you :P
And I feel fine - especially after such a good race yesterday!
Pah, lightweight!
Today at work five separate people said to me 'did you watch the race last night? WEBBERRRRRR'
I didn't know any of them were F1 fans.
:)
I hate fairweather fans of any sport :(
Or perhaps they thought they'd just put pictures of the more important guy everywhere.
And hey, its the only time NSW will win anything, give em a break. ;)
Oh, my Monday isn't going to well. We thought we'd catch the bus into town, but we kinda missed it. Still, running after a bus is fun :) lol!!
By the way Christine, I subconsciously chose to listen to the F1 debrief before the Chequered Flag podcast - so now you trumped the BBC! :)
*shakes fist at busses*
They do that just to be evil. I just know it!
Ooh, I like that!
Oooh that's f... erm, un-named banter from a saturday morning quiz show on Radio 5!
This whole season is cok-eyed
Brawn (nee Honda) winning; Maca & Ferrari way back; Webber on pole & winning; the coverage back with the BBC; Mad Max & The poison Dwarf on their way out
I'm going to have a lie down in a dark room
Buses are evil. Don't trust buses - even in efficient public transport friendly Denmark!
Has anyone heard the Bob Newheart sketch on the "bus Drivers School" Very Funny
Any body seen this
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/13072009/23/ecclestone-join-f1-breakaway-cvc-prepares-oust.html
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76945
Alguesuari, Bourdais, Toro Rosso and Repsol
I hate in sports that all rumours get denied even when everyone knows they're true, and then they turn around 24 hours later and confirm them. No wonder no one believes a word they say.
Try this
http://www.we7.com/#/track/Bus-Drivers-School!trackId=1148384
I think it is not only in sports ...
thats true
GP Week mentions that Repsol are set to supply fuel to both Red Bull teams as part of the deal to have Alguersuari in the Toro Rosso seat.
Interestingly, Piquet may have been linked with the STR drive as well. Bourdais for Piquet? Deal of the century! :-D
the last driver sacked midway through the season was Scott Speed (sacked by who else, Toro Rosso, replaced by Sebastain Vettel). :-)
(last driver change during the season was Nakajima replacing Wurz, but in that case it Wurz who decided to retire)
Just recall Satanta Sports
And which led to THAT pitstop.
LOL
Oooooooooooooooh Repsol colours :D
I just want to say, thanks Christine. I've now done two blog posts in one day :D
have you ever seen Mateschitz to allow anybody to mess with Red Bull colours ? :-) he will not allow to big repsol presence on the livery ...
Excellent. Same tomorrow as well, please.
I don't think I can keep that kind of pace. I only have so much to talk about :P
How strange that does not seem to stop other journos
If you ever need ideas, just shout. We are full of ideas and lacking in time. :)
:D
Very true but I'm just posting my thoughts not looking to report news ;)
Speaking of which, Scott Woodwiss said he needs some ideas for his blog. Any takers?
I'd love to hear them, doesn't mean I will have time either :P
I should proabaly add, sorry Amy with regard to my latest blog post.
My God don't go admitting that, next you'll be saying that the news should contain FACTS, you'll undermine the whole fabric of society
;-)
Ohh dear heikki!
61.8% of laps, ouch :(
Even Bourdais did better than that, and we know what's happening to him don't we (eh Christine)
He really is bottom of every chart this year (sorry Amy)!
Except for popularity possibly
I think the second half of the season will be much better for him.
Couldn't be a whole lot worse, so that's a good thing right?
Possibly. Me stats man. Me no measure popularity!
That said Christine, I wouldn't want to take anything off Sidepodcast :)
I don't think it is possible is it?
Here are five off the top of my head.
1) Ari Vatanen appears to be the saviour of F1, but what kind of changes can he bring about? Will it be an end to the politics of F1? I know Nick would be very disappointed if that happened. What would Formula 1 be like without Max at the helm?
2) Toro Rosso appear to be bringing Jaime on board because they have no option to test him up in time for 2010. Whilst these cost cutting measures appear to be all good for new teams, what effect is this having on the show? Putting drivers in the car who are not ready is never a good idea *cough* Ide.
3) F1 circuits seem to be adding more and more activities to their facilities to try and bring in the crowds. We’ve got music at Singapore, and rollercoasters at the Nurburgring. Do you think this works? What kind of things would you like to see at tracks? Should they be trying to open F1 up to the wider, perhaps not particularly interested, public?
4) Webber has finally won a race. This leaves Heidfeld as the main “veteran” without a win. Will it ever happen for Quick Nick? Why is he so consistant but never at the top?
5) Supposing F1 survives, who will get the seats in the three new teams? Will it be new people, or experienced people? Villeneuve said it’s all about experience with the testing ban – but how far do you push it with calling people back to the task?
James;-
In your podium stats there are 26 podium places accounted for
Brawn = 11
Red Bull = 10
Toyota = 3
Ferrari = 2
But there have been 9 races each with 3 podium places 9x3=27
Who's missing
NOT POSSIBLE
Ah, BMW. Thanks :)
Qwick Nick?
Yep, I need to reword my sentance about Ferrari now.
I wonder who will now find themselves in the Red Bull/Toro Rosso reserve driver role? Coulthard about to be called up again?
Sorry ;-(
I might give them a call.
They have a fair few young drivers in their academy, I'm sure they'll find someone. I wouldn't mind seeing DC back though.
Don't worry, I'm suprised I missed it I have a spreadsheet that I used to check it anyway :)
could be bourdais?
Maybe that is is Hungary contract?
If it's not DC I'm willing to bet money on Robert Wickens getting the nod.
If I were him, I'd want to get away from F1.
That's what I thought - who is saying Bourdais will get dropped? Toro Rosso have had a shared seat before, maybe they'll do it again?
James, does your SS give an overall % for all drivers, as this could be compared year v year to give a reliability check, similarly team by team
If it means him not making stupid comments like he did yesterday then sure.
Ooooh Rob Wickens! I like him!
I think I'm confused as to what you mean, all the spreadsheet shows is the number of laps that each driver has completed and then the percentage that is out of the total laps run this year.
Exactly. ;)
Paul Tracy on Le Seb's Predicament
I think these two guys have a previous history and it's not too pretty!
Meow
you think it's a bit cheeky to bring hartley back now?
I have more ideas now, if I really wanted to I could get another blog post done today but I think 3 in one day is too much :D
Wasn't the reason he was replaced was that he had too many racing commitments?
clearly not, no. he was replaced because they didn't want to give him bourdais' permanent seat.
Good. We can't have two f1 drivers with super pretty hair, it just won't do. Clearly what the sport needs is another Spaniard to cash in on the Alonso-effect ;)
I dunno, we saw him at goodwood doing a job for Brawn if you see Lou's photos...
:D
hahaha :D
It should be noted that Al-goo... Alger.... Alga.... Not Seb (it IS easier) was racing in British F3 last year with Scary Hairy Boy and beat him to the championship, so I guess it's fair...
Rubens on twitter:
I would not have won the race as the Red Bulls were half a second faster per lap but 3rd was very possible without the pit problems
Wanna know how he's feeling about Brawn though :(
Highly unlikely that either party will backtrack now. Hartley wants to commit to F3/FR3.5 and get his career back on course. Out of the Red Bull Junior driver pool at the moment, the only other driver showing promise at the moment is Rob Wickens in F2 - which is supposedly the new feeder series to F1...
Hartley was the faster, often better driver of the two, but Alguersuari was the most consistent.
Okay, we are going to go and try and catch another bus. See you later! x
Hope it doesn't end in a wild bus chase :P
Byee!
Mr C, some feedback about the LCLT, when I uncheck "follow comments", the LCLT will then tell me how many pending messages there are, but when I tick "follow comments" again, the comments start updating again, but the pending message remains on screen. I'm using firefox
are either really up for this challenge though? have red bull actually done any straightline testing this year, shouldn't algae been running up and down some runway in preparation?
ah-ha. fair point. hmm, will think about that one.
Oh and so we all know how to properly pronounce Jaime Alguersuari's name properly.
Say it as it looks:
HI-ME AL-GER-SWA-RI
Repeat several times until perfected.
Simples.
Someone want to forward this to Legard who constantly referred to him as 'Jaime Alguergueria' all weekend?
You need to click on the number that appears, that makes them appear and gets rid of pending message. Or it does for me anyway :)
I don't think a driver should make a jump from F3 mid-season with no testing into F1. It's too quick and you don't get a polished well rounded driver.
ted says jaime though. i can't go against ted.
it works. but that's a bit kludgy.
I still think it's Jaime Superaguri.
Kludgy is an awesome word.
♥
Oh, well I use it like this a lot and I'm not bothered by it ;)
Isn't Kludgy the name of an Eastern European driver in the Red Bull young driver programme?
it's sort of half implemented. we made it work one way and then changed it, but not very well. needs a bit of tweeking.
That or Not Seb, I reckon that's what we should call him...
Ah I see, I only use this way because I tend to get distracted forget lclt is open and don't want to be confused when I come back to read :)
RB have done a few straight line tests this year in the Midlands somewhere I can't remember where - same place Force India uses.
It'll be interesting to see how Alguersuari fares in FP1 during Hungary, I don't think he'll be as bad as everyone is expecting him to be. There seems to be this unwritten rule that you have to work your way up the career ladder in motor racing to reach F1, but Raikkonen for example was plucked from Formula Renault (below where Alguersuari is at the moment) and Button from British F3 and look at what those two haven't done too bad.
Alguersuari is expected to race at Le Mans this weekend fulfilling his FR3.5 duties and then, rumour has it, have a seat fitting and do some tests in Italy.
You are right, but both Button and Raikkonen took a few years before they properly matured as drivers.
I just don't like this idea that there's 20 guys spending $2million a year in GP2 that just get ignored for a young kid who has never even experienced their level yet... seems wrong to me. At least drivers like Lewis did GP2!
that must be the fault of gp2 though?
red bull need to show that their young driver program offers some kind of return, so they're limited by the people they can choose.
if i were being cynical, i'd suggest significant jump in pace from STR at the next race, as RBR start sharing more setup data, in return for the team running a "preferred driver". but we shall see.
Yep also a very good point. But as Jackie Stewart says, there's a staircase of talent out there, but I think Jaime has bypassed this by taking a Red Bull-sponsored lift to the top! :)
You'd think Red Bull would share the data, after all the more cars between them and Brawn the better.
Funnily enough, this was one of the headlines on Google News:
F1 less relevant to Honda's goals: CEO
And yet all the other manufacturers decided to stay in F1. I guess Honda's objectives in F1 were different from the others'?
maybe. but i get the impression the choice to run bourdais didn't please top management. they wanted sato, for promotional purposes, but he couldn't come up with the cash (i'm still expecting him to pop up in a car in suzuka btw, but we'll see).
taking on the new guy might find them receive more technical data in the post, but who knows?
Based on the translations that are really awful on various websites, Rubens and Brawn have turned the page from what happened and he is very thankful for all the support he got which is nice :)
Now he gets to spend some time with his kids, and that it will be a good day. Awwwwww. :)
Just as well, too. But will it affect Rubens' chances for next year?
Reading between quite a few lines we had a lot of comments last year from Newey talking about the difficulties of having to run cars with two different setups and engine packagings re: Renault and Ferrari.
This year he's talking about how he didn't really want to have KERS because he didn't want to have a different setup between his two cars.
I think Newey had a bit of a chat with Red Bull management and said, "There's a rule change coming, don't distract me with Torro Rosso rubbish". And they agreed.
And that's why I think Torro Rosso are doing worse.
We'll see what happens I suppose. I still think they'll make a decision at the end of the year based on the entire season rather than basing it on the comments yesterday.
I don't think Rubens has a problem with the team or they have a problem with him anyways, I just think it was supr of the moment reaction of a frustrating afternoon that he just let out like that.
It won't affect his chances for next year. Because there was no chance Rubens will be there next year (sorry Lukeh)
Maybe that's why he gets so agitated after the races ... he knows this is his last chance?
could be right. if they wanted to though, could they not assign someone else to that role. why does it have to be newey passing the info on?
What I mean is that last time Newey was optimising for both. Now he isn't.
I think he was annoyed because a) he's just been overtaken in the championship, and b) this is his only chance to win the championship.
We might not think that he has a chance, but there is no way a driver like Rubens wouldn't hope right now for his chance to win the championship.
He knows he can still go for it and he has the car to do so. He's just obviously peed off that things aren't going his way in the same they are for Jenson. People seem to get the idea that this means the team are favouring Jenson over him but how can you improve over a teammate who has driven as superbly as Jenson has this year?
He wouldn't be worth his place if he didn't believe he could win it ... so that won't help!
ahh okay. but str have been moaning that they're not getting any help either.
i think the river of information has dried up and they're looking forlornly at their inboxes, finding nothing forthcoming.
Definitely. Plus he's a vital part of the team - lots of times this year jenson has mentioned how the team have run off and improved upon from Rubens' information through practise and whatnot.
Morning!! How are we all?
It feels like i've been up for ages, and alas, it is afternoon now, so that may be the case.
Part of that is true - I think. I don't think Rubens thinks they are favouring Jenson. And we know Ross has brought a lot of advances to the team... But Brawn are a small operation versus Ferrari and now they're up at the top and in the spotlight mistakes in the pits seem common (of course Rubens will ignore that Ferrari don't seem to be very good in the pits anymore either). And this mistakes are crucial.
I think Rubens doens't think that Jenson has driven better than him. I don't think drivers really think like that. He's trying to work out how when he beat Jenson in the rubbish car he can't beat Jenson in the good car.
And he's out of answers unfortunately. (The actual answer is, I believe, that Jenson is better in an ideal car, Rubens is more adaptable to whatever he's given).
It's half way through the season. He needs to start hauling Jenson in, and when Jenson is behind him he needs to be winning.
I think you have a point there - Jenson is winning it with his head...
Talking of things in inboxes - I sent you one of those antiquated things called e-mails about a tech thing.
ooh, cheers. i'll check now.
That is really true. Jenson is in the place Lewis was in his first season (until right at the end). Everything just worked. Fall off the track, marshalls push you back on, etc.
Doohicky - now an e-mail alert system.
Is there anything it can't do?
Morning Jon.
Morning!
GPWeek claiming Piquet may go to STR, silly silly people
:)
have replied.
do they give a reason?
am still waiting on the tea making version.
What if you drink coffee?
basically that there were rumours that PK was taking with STR in the winter as his seat looked in doubt then
Also,
on the whole subject of Jamie Superaguri. I think this will either give him a major boost, or ruin him, being in a rubbish car and at the back of the grid with little opportunity for making big improvements can screw up a drivers confidence
Afternoon
how Chris, how are ya?
not bad, been playing on my PS2 on F106 this morning, can't wait for F109 from codemasters to come out
you'll have to get yourself a PS3 then! hehe
currently watching Top Gear on Dave +1
Hello Everybody!
Firstly...
Wow! Thats awesome!
2ndly
He has, but some sort of technical change means you need to update your RSS to http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/
3rdly...
:D hehehe
Wii game out in September/October then PS3 version out after christmas
dave has a plus 1 now? wow, even more top gear, for anyone who didnt get to see it in the first place again hehe
WHHHHAAAT?
how did i miss that?
I think they call it dave ja vu
Channel 158 on Sky
Wait....
what?!
hehehe
:D
Has there been a offical release date for the codemasters game yet!
oooh, i think Christines gonna have that person for breakfast
Not that i know of
Nope.
Poor guy dont scare him away!
I am waiting for a games store to get a bar code for it then I will race in and pre-order it
i am stunned. really, really.
i (heart) franck too!
Why not just use amazon... they normally send out stuff before it hits the shops
gd idea
Probably cheaper too. Have a search around on the internet Chris, you may find it cheaper than amazon
I suggest shopto or gameplay. Both are cheaper and their service is 100x better.
can I have a link to them sites please
Google them
Something to think about: Who will become the Red Bull / Torro 3rd driver if Jamie takes Sebs seat?
Shopto
Gameplay
shopto in particular I've used lots of times for excellent effect, even ordering a game at 6pm and it arriving the next morning a few times which is pretty incredible.
oooh, that is a good question. Another Red Bull Young driver maybe?
already discussed chris.
Oops, links messed up. Just google them like Jon says :)
Bendon!
read back, dank has a bunch of good theories.
sorry,
Can some one tell me how reliable shopto.net is because I have seen the following on it:
SHOPTO.NET PRICE £24.99
RRP £34.99
SAVING £10.00 (28%)
If you pre-order "Formula 1 2009 (F1)" before 12pm on 30/9/2009 we will guarantee that you will receive it by the release date of 02/10/2009, if you do not receive it we will compensate you with £3.00 on your shopto account
I've decided chad kroeger needs a cough sweet, sounds like he's always got a sore throat
can we get jenson one at the same time?
If thats the cheapest you can find, then go for it. It's very reliable
Bulk buy??
Have used them 20+ times with no problems.
Instead of Just dumping Superaguri in for the rest of the season, why not...
Give them both 3 races each, who ever does best gets the last 2 and the drive next year.
amazon is 3p cheaper
Is the Postage free on shopto.net?
Yeah, first class too!
2 for 1
I have found them great to deal with, getting both refunds and exchanges sorted out is very easy.
As is amazon, i'd go with shopto, lukeh sounds like its been good for him
Although Nick has had good amazon too, argh, your choice :P
well shopto.net say the release date is 02/10/2009 and if I don't get it by then they will put £3 in my account
If thats what you want, then go for it
also Can anyone reconmend any good F1 manager games that are not that old!!, and for PC, PS2, Wii, DS or PC.
You won't find any recent ones. Grand prix World is the most recent one I;d say from 2000.... although you can get a 2009 update for it. However it hates XP and Vista, it works on them, but is very very dodgy.
Boring! There is no F1 or Cricket on as there has been for the last 5 days.
If there was cricket on, i'd still say it was boring ;)
there must be so sport on somewhere in the world. what can we live comment on next?
I'm reading information on the game from the amazon page and it has the following included:
# Pit stops: Full pit-stop integration allows you to alter your strategy mid-race to refuel and repair damage incurred
# Pit Radio: Your team provides vital race information and strategic advice over the radio as you drive your way to the front of the pack
I have always wanted to change my tire compound during a race
How can you say that after last night :-o
*rushes to game page on Wiki to update*
Unless your game is made Lukeh ;)
That was only a rule that came in recently so no games will have it on
Quite easily.
Mmmm, Cricket Dispise i do
I think you could do it in gran turismo 3
true, Wikiopedia saying: It will be released on 30 September 2009 on Wii and PlayStation Portable platforms
and 4
I will go to Sports Interactive and shout at them till they make it.
not during a race, but pre-race you can
Ah well not everyone can appreciate subtle things, they are restricted to watching others drive around in circles getting nowhere fast.
;-)
I'll come with :D
hehehe, i dont mind playing, in fact on a nice day, its alot of fun. I just don't like watching it.
I like both, as with an awful lot of things
Make it yourself? I can be your business manager, i require 51% of the company and take no liabilitys ;)
GT4 you can during the race
I didn't wake up today to be prepared for Dragons Den on here!
Hehe :D My programming language is good, but not that good.
Oh really? thats awesome
Obviously not an ex boy scout
yep
I can do basic html, we're sorted :D
Same here I can do use HTML and basic Visual Basic!!
On the iplayer for y'day's race it says "contains some strong language" are they refering to Webber or something else?
You've got me thinking now about how I'd do it using the languages I know.
PLAN
Assembler
COBOL
Pearl
Basic
Fortran
I once did a very basic "game" on powerpoint, where you can select different things and they cost different amounts, trouble was that for each option you needed a whole new set of slides. It got to about 3 or 4 options per turn and i got to a silly number of slidees
good lord!
I must add all a long time ago, couldn't do anything in any of them now
wow
you made those words up, didnt you?
:)
Considering it would be a game, it would be massively complicated program. I don't have several months to a year to spare to do it :(
no he didn't I had to research these for my programming unit at college
Good Lord man do you ever go outside?
I think i made a macro in excel once
If I recall correctly the word ZAP (as in he got Zaped) come from Assembler where the Command ZAP meant Zero Add Packed i.e. fill data field full of nothings
hehe im just messing with him
In short NO
I wish I could just photoshop it all together, click my fingers, and the code makes itself :(
This reminds me I have a C++ exam tomorrow to resit.... bleh!
gdgd kl
REVISE MAN! REVISE!
Too late
http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?search=zap&searchmode=none
zap
1929 (sound effect), 1942 (v.), comic strip word (especially from "Buck Rogers in the Twenty-Fifth Century"), of imitative origin. Meaning "to erase electronically" is 1982.
nah, never, tomorrow is getting late to learn new stuff but he can still do it now
http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?search=zap&searchmode=none
That's a new web-site to me looks ever so good
Its very addictive!
Get Thee behind me
Mr C and Christine can you tweak the comments so when I am on another tab and a comment comes tho it makes a noise like facebook does when you get a chat message
Are you using the LCLT?? In Safari it does make a noise
But then how will you know if the message is on facebook or sidepodcast? ;)
I am on my netbook using real-time doohickey because the my netbook is too small to use LCLT
provided the rest of us can turn it off :) i think there's a feature already somewhere
a different noice!!
What about in the toolbar or the top, the [# New] thing that tells you about new comments?
I have Firefox 3.5 does any else have this
Yep
it's easier if you hear a sound then keep looking at the tabs, but must of the time on my netbook I have lots of tabs open and you can see the [# New] very well
Lukeh you are a genius.
Grr... Chrome... Grrr
Does anyone know how quali will change next year with no refueling? Will Q3 still have race fuel?
Hey that etymonline site says you can sponsor a word
So here's the question; what word would you sponsor?
the :)
There would be no point realy.
I just hope they don't change it too much
not sure but the techy and sporting regulations are on the fia site. you could read through them (for fun)
http://www.fia.com/sport/Regulations/f1regs.html
Just watching the Build up to the race; Jake stitching up EJ..
EJ on Macca's car (last race); "worst car they've ever made, and i would torch it if i were in charge of Mclaren"
ooooh, now im excited :D
This is just another example of F1 ignoring the fans; just about every one wants to keep it, it adds to the tension as we try to figure out who's doing what, but Mad Max and the poison dwarf say no. So stuff you lot you just pay up and lump it.
As you can tell it makes me mad as hell
Technically true, it is the worst car they made but they managed to add bits to improve it.
i've spent a bit of time going through them. they're interesting. you can even read about WHEN the music starts playing for the podiums and champagne etc. all prearranged in the rules....
He did have the good grace to say sorry on air though
Ferrari have appeared to switch their focus to 2010 it seems
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76951
like Button did with the last Honda we all saw.
According to the sporting regs.....
Between quali and the race, in parc ferme..
- fuel may be added or removed and a fuel breather fitted ;
is this 2009 or 2010?
wow, someone definitly has too much time on their hands
you mean me for reading them or someone for writing them ;) (think carefully before you answer here)
What on earth does this mean?
He added: "I would say that in Germany we were very good with Felipe and Kimi, we had a good start and I must say KERS here was working even though I said before that in Abu Dhabi we would like to do something special with it
Are they going to use it as an offensive weapon? electrify the marina?
i meant writing them :P
theres also a rule dictating that drivers are only allowed 1.5 litres of water in their bottles in the cars. i drink more than that in my platapus when on a 2 hour bike ride
Just had a thought
What if at one of these waterside tracks, a KERS car goes off into the water; will the driver get fried?
That makes sense, they have no need for them to quali heady as they will all have relativity the same amount of fuel on for the start anyway
yeah, however, it does mean that we'll have a quali session where the fastest car gets pole :)
good answer ;) it's not a lot of water but these guys are supposedly at the peak of their sport and don't need it. I'd struggle with wearing that suit for longer than 10 minutes inside, but in a race car, I'd be needing a lot more than 1.5 hours. speaking of bikes, i need to get mine fixed since the gear system decided to try and remove itself.
I think it would be very difficult to get in the water, and i am sure they are designed with an isolator...
But after an impact... who knows
i meant litres.
i've got a hybrid and tried to change the tyres to MTB ones this morning, but they were too small, tres annoying, my frame is awesome on my hybrid and the tyres are great on a dirt surface, shame i cant used both
Your bike has Kers?
"The stewards thought about it for a while and decided not to issue any penalty to Sutil or Raikkonen, deeming their collision to be a racing incident. Can't think why it took them so long to come to a decision, but who are we to question what the stewards do, eh?"
Christine you missed the most pertinent of all the facts; the offending driver was in a Ferrari so it doesn't count
:-)
Qdos
Yeah, a flywheel-williams style one ;)
I've seen bikes like that in Denmark too. Isn't it a bit lazy to use that?
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/13072009/13/alguersuari-claims-bourdais-lost-seat.html
So there it is (Maybe)
Did anyone see the new German Electric/Hybrid bike does over 50mph
I've heard of this before - if the bike is too customised/particular then exchanging parts is not a smooth process. I wish you luck - is the job possible and just going to take longer?
This seems a bit contraversial "But it seems that this year he has not given it everything, as he should have."
Thats a bit...
Callow youth
he's only just arrived in the team. how would he know?
I dont like this Superaguri fella' already if true that he said this.
I think the team probably put out that press release and not him...
the thing that strikes me most about this is the fact that all year we've been talking about piquet going. this is kind of a surprise. kind of...
When you're young you know everything
I know; I know; bitter and twisted old man :-(
maybe that's why he just arrived.
nope, its not possible, MTB has 24" wheels and Hybrid has 26" wheels
Ah quarts & pint pots
bah!
the Assoc Press are running the bourdais story too. but with the disclaimer that the source is the other driver. i'd say it's true.
No; No; No; No; Yes
i could probably make it work if i went and got some longer brake arms, but its really not worth the effort/expense
smacks of effort if you ask me (and you didn't)
hehe, yep, too much effort. i'm just trying to work out how to make it work, i'm potentially going up to the lake district for a bit of youth hostelling/biking/camping, and i have a fully functional hybrid and a mountain bike that wont take a front brake (my brother bent one of the forks in, woo go him) and i'm not sure my hybrid will cope with the harsh lake district trails.
You coul fit disc breakes to both sets of wheels and then either wold work on either frame
i could, but hybrid forks dont take brake disks
Problems all you see is problems
;-)
i doubt your hybrid will either. do you really need a front brake?
teehee
You see Scott and I come up with solutions and you shoot them down with mere facts as an excuse
;-)
i dont *need* one, but on past experience, i would like one. on the fast trails with only a back brake (and a pretty rubbish one at that) i have to think about braking alot earlier, so with 2 working brakes, you can carry alot more speed through the corners
See perfectly sensible question; you no doubt will counter with some wimpy excuse about stopping before you hit the trees!
I ask you
:D :D
do you really need speed? ;) whatever happened to a nice quiet ride in the country. I agree with Mawech - you're hard to please Jon ;)
:P
hehehe, you're all making my day a whole lot more cheery #sidepodhappyplace.
theres only 1 way to describe going round a corner too fast not having braked enough, it's called a brown pants moment :D
We'll be calling him Jon "Barrichello " Waldock next
;-)
:D :D
I always sport a pair of Brown Cords
Just in case
:)
I know cords aren't good for cycling, but they're more absorbent
Couple things i've picked up from Martins gridwalk...
a) Martin couldnt find Heikki when he was by Lewis's car, i wonder why?!
b) Even though Sutil started in a points position (or as near as), he was still very realistic that he was going for a top 10
Fiendish good at hiding these Finns
Is how it should have looked
BBC are asking for questions for Murray. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/murraywalker/2009/07/murray_walkers_german_grand_pr.html#P82808267
I asked him if he thought Rossi or any other motorsports star could successfully move into F1...
"‘you can’t win a race, whatever strategy you have, if your best lap time is the eleventh-quickest’... "
Ross Brawn on Rubbie's outburst
True story
Well John Surtees didn't do so bad did he
Didnt we disprove this yesterday?
I don't think so
I still see that as no chance. It was getting talked about even in the last month but I guy who can drive a bike can't [necessarily] drive an F1 car. But he'd be great publicity and I think the two teams play that card every off season with the rumours/testing.
The 11th quickest didn't win
Wasnt it Trulli or Fisi a few years back, i will look
James Toseland (Moto GP rider) once did a Williams Simulator session, and where he lost the most time was in the high speed stuff, because he just couldnt get their head round downforce, it didnt feel right
Ah Sorry misunderstood your question
Thanks to Alianora
I read you question as pertaining to yesterday's race; not yesterday's discussions
I still think Ross' comments to be a truism though.
Ah no worries...
Ross should have known we have people to analyse what he says ;)
he basically meant 'it's not that our strategy wasnt good enough, our cars just naff at the moment"
Yeah, maybe he should have said 'its nearly impossible'
Maybe he should have said "You cannot visit the pits more than most as well as have the 11th fastest lap time and still expect to win"
As well as have a rig failure
:D
As the Greeks used to say
"The Race Does not always go to the swiftest" but that IS the way to bet
it didn't feel right makes sense, but I'm wondering if he had more time if he could correct for it and get used to it.
of course, Rossi was very close to schumey at the time of his first few tests
If i was feeling harsh... he doesn't exactly seem to be doing the high speeds while on his moto GP bike... :P
He did do quite well at assen though so i will let him off ;)
I'm never sure what to think about him, he's nice, but a bit naff at times.
which Schumey?! was he really? i knew he was a good performer in the test but didn't realise he was THAT good.
The singer ?
If i remember correctly, Rossi used the previous years car, which was about 1.5 seconds off Schumeys lap time, and it turned out he was only about a second off car corrected
except in reality a second is miles off the pace. when you have the same car.
but, compared to schumey, and with a driver who hasnt done slicks and wings ever. thats pretty amazing. with a bit more practice he'd be right up there
if he thought he could get up there, he'd have taken the drive. he gave it his all, came up short, shuffled back to bikes.
That's better than some of Schumi's team mates did some weekends :-)
and then they just complain about preferential treatment from the team ;)
he's very good in an F1 car - it's just that it'd take him more time to be F1 champ than MotoGP champ. but i think he still would've done well had he taken the F1 drive.
He didnt want to spend a year as the ferrari tester.
He would have lost a lot of money from sponsors as well.
tester? that would've been daft.
surely the team only suggested that after they realised he'd be no good as a driver?
from my understanding, he needed to have a transition year into F1, and he'd have to do that alongside his MotoGP commitments.
you saying that all testers are useless drivers? of course not. if he tested then he could get really good, they're not gonna put someone who's learning the ropes in a ferrari
It was back when teams ran 3rd drivers on Friday. I think they wanted to do further evaluation on him and get him to know the circuits in an F1 car before giving him the drive.
I think Massa took it the following season anyway.
Can I suggest Algae Story?
see you all later. i'm going offline into that strange world....
no. i'm saying putting someone with that kind of marketing draw into a testing role is madness.
hehe see ya, have fun! :)
:P :)
but if he went into a race role and couldnt keep up that wouldnt help them at all
He came to the same conclusion.
he was always going. presumably that's why ferrari suggested it?
neither situation would help him. he wasn't fast enough / good enough.
*going to.
Paddock life is up for the nurburgring
I love the video halfway through of the 7 second trip some english guys had of the nurburgring :D
I love the ashtray story...
I await the outing of the man responsible!
Do you mean to tell me that there are members of the British press corps who are no entirely honest in what they do; you';; be trying to tell me that what they write is not always 100% accurate next.
Shock; Horror
And that there's no such person as Santa
yes there is. we live commented his travels via norad on xmas eve.
Phwe thank the fairies for that
You had a sidepodchristmas? This sounds like something to look forwad to!
BMW is willing to supply a customer team with engines in next year, team boss Mario Theissen has reiterated
But has no one told him only Cosworth are allowed, just ask Mad Max
There was a party and everything.
presents and signing.
and some singing too.
FIVE Massa spiiiiiins! :D
As I said, FIVE Massa spiiiiins!
Oooooh
Beer too i hope. Although just for looking at, not for drinking ;)
DRINK!
hehe, memories
A lot of people (including Mr and Mrs C) were drinking. :D
spins... spins...
Ah yes, fun evening.
Hi everybody.
I dont like winter, but this all sounds awesome
There should be a Christmas equivalent in the middle of summer.
howdy! how are ya?
There is it's called Mid-Summer's Day
Still in one piece :) Blocked nose now.
DRINK!
Yes please; mines a double
But...but i cant!
Ah it was an instruction for when Mr C or Christine said one of their catchphrases.
Rubbish!
My dad always said if you don't smoke; don't drink & don't chase women; you don't actually live any longer it just seems that way.
Drink!
Thank goodness!
I've noticed a new one, "how rude!"
Yes you can; you're just not trying hard enough
;-)
we need a list.
Mr. & Mrs. C; Catchphrases - Never
Hehehe.
I have also been saying a lot of "nonsense" and "indeed".
Is that another one ;)
"It's on the list" is on the list :)
It's a well know fact Mrs. C can do no wrong; just ask Mr. C
I probably should have put them the other way round. That doesn't read so well.
:D :P ;)
hehehe
Hehehe
No you were right first time
:-o
Southern hemisphere Christmas?
How rude.
;)
LOL
Yes... When to celebrate? Has it snowed yet?
:D
All I did was back her up; what's wrong in that
Oh... the same one in a different place :(
I have been doing that for a while!
Indeed. I need to have one of these 'winter' Christmas thingys one year. Can't quite get my head around the concept.
I tried it for the first time since i was about 6 this year.
Really really overrated.
:'D
:'D
*opens door, kicks off converse, lobs keys and travel bag across the room and switches on espresso machine*
make an entrance, sir!
Well hello
Been anywhere nice?
Depends.
Any tree hugging hippie enviromentalists about?
So you're home at last where do you think you've been;what time do you call this
Just thought I'd make you feel right at home
Well yes
but I'm also a motorsport fan, so I take a balanced approach
I have a 100% organic crossbow made from wood taken from renewable forests if there are :P
Crossbow
Phah Silly continental inventions
Good old fashioned English Longbow in the hands of a Welshman that's what's needed.
You may want to not read this then.
I've done well over 1400 miles, used nearly 500 litres of fuel, not cared about speed limits and killed and eaten several furry animals.
Awesome...
Do you mean you used the car to kill the animals, then ate them?
Used a russian sniper rifle, an american shotgun and a british pistol.
Christine Don't read this
I kill and eat fury/feathered animals every week Bunnies & Pigeons are a real pest here so I shoot them and eat them
As for the trip, it's not the doing of it it's the reason why
That's just over kill all that for a squirrel
Bunnies and pigeons?
Deer and Boar. :D
Too big for a sandwich
I have to say I have some venison in my freezer, which I shot, and the bits made good sausages
No boar around this way though
Shot Boar when I lived in Switzerland though
Did you know as a Swiss citizen between the ages of 18 & 50 you have to have a gun and know how to use it.
They also have the highest rate of per capita gun related injuries in the world.
Not so "Sensible Swiss"
No such thing. Use more bread. :D
I don't get that anyway - plus other half is in Wales
Sensible lady
leaving me all alone in the flat?
Not that sensible. :D
Well I was thinking more of my mouth size, but if you can cope.....
;-)
*covers eyes*
Clearly I've come back at the wrong moment, I've been trying to find some code and am now frustrated and annoyed that I can't do what I want to do. :(
Sounds like you need a Mr C.
welcome to my entire past 7 months of uni :D
*drains espresso, enpties and refils bag, grabs keys and puts on converse again*
I only want to do something to make someone (my dad of all people) life easier with a website he co-runs and I know what I'm trying to do is a little beyond me at the moment, I will get there :D
Hehe :)
Don't you just love computers
"can't Live with them; and You can;t live with them"
*waves*
No need to be smug
:-)
Not to worry, I was trying to do stuff with FTP and vb.net but I'm going to accept defeat for the moment.
no worries.
Hello everyone.
I've found the replacement to the FOM live timing. I never realized that SpeedTV.com has a cool live timing feature that also archieves the races.
Worth a look. Next race I am going to try it to see how well it works.
LINK: http://formula-one.speedtv.com/f1-racecast/
Everything I find online is for VB6 which is useless for vb.net, oh well I guess my dad will have to struggle on :D
i can already tell you...
not very well. it's the same service the telegraph offered earlier this year. i'll find a link. not good at all sadly.
ask me.
That looks quite good, Ive noticed a couple of newspapers over here have been offering some sort of timing thing, but when i tried for Australia they didnt work.
That one looks a lot slicker though, i will give it a go for the next race if i remember¬!
are still offering it? can't find a link now?
I hate to make this a 'mr c will fix it' session but maybe someone on here can help... go knwos how many times I've come asking for help in the past few months :( anyways I'm trying to work out how on c++ to, once a serial file is created, how to add new records to it whilst maintaining the old ones entered befoerehand...
the one I did for the exam before was quite simply a clusterred mess of unstructured code and overcomplicated nincompoopery, now ive found a simpyl solution with serial files but the actual problem im still having is as ive started, it just deletes everything everytime I add new data to the file. Which is a bit silly :(
TTFN
Sounds like i didnt miss out then!
see ya
I was trying to create a front end using Vb.net (it is the only visual language I know) for FTP. I found loads of examples for VB6 but hardly any for Vb.net. I'm not too bothered by not having it and it is beyond my knowledge and what I've been taught.
Dang.
hehe, i found the times one and is exactly the same but re-skinned!
http://times.racecentre.stats.com/times/default.html?filename=&session=&year=09
Da Boch
that's the one. slow to update and it crashes every browser i have,
understood. there are free pc ftp apps out there. or are you trying something specific.
so you want to open a file and append, as opposed to open a file and overwrite, correct?
Hmm, sounds like your writing just to file rather than ammending the file. I haven't touched C++ in a while and I've never heard of a serial file. Binary and text files are all I've had the pleasure of.
Pretty much. I appear to be overwriting every time...
It was going to be a combination of a few things so everything was in the one program. I was trying to make it is simple as possible because the other clients he uses he doesn't like using for some reason. I'll come up with something though :)
Or what Mr C said :P
From the very dim and distant past in some high level languages how you wrote to a file depended on how you opened it i.e. you had to define up front if you were opening for update or addition
ooohh....Best Tv series evahhhhh Is back on in america.... Entourage ;)
*Puts 12 year old fanboi away
is it something as simple as using:
ios app
instead of:
ios out
or more complicated than that?
ooh. colon fail. there should be a two colons between ios and app there, not a space. doohickey no likey c++
That is what I was thinking of but serial files were mentioned so that threw me slightly.
Ooh!
it can be as simple as that yep. Honestly ive just found some stuff on that in my previous notes as you mentioned it but i've never used it wierdly enough, but that looks perfect if I get it working. cheers, will give it a shot :)
Should fix that ;):P
Bye for now
it'll make that c++ podcast we're planning to do, a little tricky, i grant you.
bye.
hehe. :D
Ah I've missed all the programming chat!
Just a quick mention for stackoverflow.com if you are having programming questions. You can get good answers there very quickly. :)
Why do I only find out about this now, 2 years after I graduate from uni? :D
good question posted by pitmonster over on pitlane fanatic, following the ruining of lewis' race yesterday:
"should the FIA get Bridgestone to make their tyres more puncture-resistant? I don’t mean run-flat tyres with gel/foam insert or super-stiff sidewalls, just a thicker/tougher carcase that can touch a front wing and not immediately go ‘pop’"
http://www.pitlanefanatic.com/blog/index.php/197/front-wings-and-punctures-2/
hmmm. i actually think bridgestone's tyres are much more durable now than they were during the tyre war with michelin. that said, i guess there's always more that can be done.
i'd like to see tyres a bit stiffer, in construction and compound. cars would slide more :D
They seem to be pretty thick alreadly, I think the main priority should be for the tyres to work properly. I dont think they should be the most noticeable part of a race.
Also hitting sharp shards at over 100 mph would likely puncture anything, they haven't been as many caused by running over debris on the track as there used to be.
Also there is the issue of cost cutting... I cant see it being changed.
dan has found the US equivalent of the BBC forum, and embedded it. just watching now:
http://www.racingeagles.com/2009/07/speedtvs-german-grand-prix-review-video.html
Wow, that looks realy interesting, I love to hear the american media's opinion on sports, they often have a different perspective.
Thanks Dan (via MrC) ;)
Also reminds me i havent blogged... oops
you need christine to chase you away?
:D
Noooo.... I do it... I promise.
I have goodwood video... which should i prioritise?
are you going to blog the video?
video pls.
Goodwood! Before the video gets too old. ;)
No, i guess ill put it on youtube or something
I blogged twice today because of Christine, and I have more topics to blog about now :D
I am a conservation biologist specialising in information management sciences. As far as tree hugging - if it is endangered/rare tree I will hug it, but if its an introduced pest species I will cut it down or poison it! I subscribe to environmentalism that is long-term self-survival for ourselves so is the ultimate ultimate selfish pursuit for our species.
I've watched it for the last several weeks and have enjoyed it. I just wished that Bernie was looser with his footage with the networks so they can show some highlights of the race.
BTW: I am thinking about making this into a Cafe Press t-shirt (LINK: http://thegridwalk.typepad.com/.a/6a0105368f7574970b01157107aa8c970c-pi
)
Does anyone have any suggestions for Ari's campaign slogan which I can put on the back of the shirt?
Great German GP. Well done Mark Webber :)
I just read this on Autosport from Christian Horner about Webbo:
"I don't think he is still at full fitness. He cannot run. He is carrying an extra bit of ballast in his leg which Adrian [Newey] is not too happy about, but I think that he has dealt with the injury."
Seems a bit mean of Newey to be obsessing over some metal in the poor guy's leg!
Hehehe, hes got what 3 screws and a plate? And Newey is worrying about the weight!
You just have to love him!
Also this bit: "Certainly we had some concerns, because he forgot to tell us that he broke his shoulder as well."
I can imagine that conversation. "Oh, did I not say? Yea, I wrecked my shoulder as well. Oops, shoulda mentioned it. Soz."
he's thinking he could design a lighter yet more fragile version.
hehe :D
i wonder when he told them, because the first i heard of it was when he mentioned it at the silverstone fitness thing. in fact, he may not have told us, might've even been his trainer.
I remember horner saying he wasnt amused about not being told about it after mark and brundle got half naked in a sauna before the Australian GP
oops!
I do believe we looked at each other like: eh?
we did. still horner has nothing to worry about, it's not like he went driving for 24 hours with a broken leg...
I have just thought of a question for Joe...
Have you noticed that people in formula one say 'for sure' more than anyone in the real world? Does the paddock have its own language?
I think this was the video
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7962268.stm
CH didnt appear to know about it in this interview!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/technology/newsid_7923000/7923442.stm
I should probably point out that i was making 2 seperate points!
Evening.
That's brilliant!
Tbh it sounded pretty weak at the time, didn't it? If you're a young driver doing F3, WSR and F1 testing - would you give up the F1? No I wouldn't either, unless I was pushed.
franck!
ahh, i just remembered.
That is still awesome!
*waits for him to jump in the coments*
:P
Evening all :)
Wow! :D That is uh-mazing! :D
Christine: "You know, I have another blog about F1..." ;)
whoa. Thats something you don't expect.
*Runs to set up Timo blog*
hehehehehehehe
Then again, there's a link to here in the About Me section anyway.
i think it's fair to say, the legend that is fkm, may have found spc too.
*sits expectantly for a comment from Franck*
At this rate he will have to be carefull or he will have a show on Sidepodradio soon!
:D
Wait a minute, does this mean he googled himself?
Doesn't everyone at least once in their life?
Don't you?
has anyone bing'ed themselves yet?
http://www.bing.com/
"At the Townsville Magistrate Court on Monday, November 29, Lex Patrick Wotton was charged with "arson (two counts), serious assault on police (three counts), wilful damage and riot ... "
eek
Apparently i cant spell my name properly and i am a famous violinist..
Figures really.
:)
It's so disappointing. Whenever I vanity search, it always turns up stuff I'm actually doing. Boo. I want an internet namesake.
I'm on wikipedia. And also a motorbike accessory outfit.
Might try my full name sometime.
Perhaps thats the definition of being famous?
Arent you a tennis tournament?
Nah. I don't have a wikipedia page or nuffink.
:D
Yes.
Full name, ex NFL player, Northern Ireland footballer and clay pigeon shooter
Cue the sidepodfanclub...
Can someone hit Twitter's website please. That 'More' button is really irritating.
which button and why?
When you go to your profile page and try to read back...
I think i have just realised how useless i am.
I just got annoyed that a pack of sausages didnt have cooking instructions on them...
...before i realised i have done this several times before. Doh!
Maybe i do need a girlfriend.
you don't like it? christine asked the other day for the same thing on doohickey. am currently investigating.
Or a cookbook?
As do i.
It used to be that you could go back page by page.
Now you have to wait for a script to load tweets underneath the current ones. It is slow and doesn't always work, and after you've sat and waited for it 4 or 5 times and it fails... that gets annoying.
It would be good if it worked.
ahh, okay.
I suppose I just don't understand why there isn't an option to change "view last 20 tweets" to "view last 100 tweets" or more, instead of having to click through each time.
Can I have both or is that greedy?
Of course you can.
It would have to be a realy simple one to tell me how to do saussages...
I dont think the cookbook can tell me when i am doing it all wrong either ;)
Ah yes, girls are very good at that.
Simple solution - give the cookbook to your girlfriend. Kill two birds with one stone. ;)
Where are they hiding? Not the cookbooks, they are on Amazon. I suppose in the olden days you would go to a shop to buy a cookbook and meet a potential girlfriend there.
We have reached the end of my expertise there, I'm afraid.
I think that could be one of the worse things ever to give...
Although i have made similar mistakes in the past. My toes still hurt from being stamped on!
Not as a present, more like "Here, luv, you do it. I haven't got a clue..."
Ah well. It would probably help to move out of a silly little town full of farmers.
Ha, even Mr C will tell you that's not the way to get things done.
I knew it...
The Cats are controlling us!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8147566.stm
Are there any girl farmers?
do you think he went off to check?
I just looked on google to see if i could meet a farm girl. The result wasnt pretty, clever or helpful :|
maybe bing could help?
Hehehehe.
Yes there are a few. I work in the office of a farm, there is a definite farming culture and I'm not it.
hehe, the name scares me!
I cant help but think of chandler from friends...
It makes me think of Groundhog Day.
There is a disntct lack of 'arr' in your comments!
..although i suppose that is also a pirate thing!
heheh :-)
Perhaps there needs to be a sidepodsingles page :P
there is.
I lost most of that when I moved away! Now I've ended up back here, I go through phases of it returning...
Hmm, we have one of those but it is music related. Perhaps Sidepodlonelyhearts?
there is?
Or do you mean songs?
there was one, i swear? or did it never make it from the comments to the wiki?
The question is it for good? After all Hitler, Napoleon, Richard Nixon, and Walt Disney were all dog people. Perhaps the cats are controlling us from the evils of the canidae family?
I have never seen a lonely hearts page.
Cat owners secretly know this, and love it.
Remember it in the comments, don't think it ended up on the wiki.
Not sure if that would seem desperate.. although Dad did find my stepmum that way.
Your dad is on sidepodcastlonelyhearts! ;) :P
Danny King I love ye.
Desperate, it will never be desperate.
We need to start copyrighting the full spectrum of the Sidepodcast empire.
We have Sidepodcakes, Sidepodsingles, Sidepodale (a work in progress.)
SidePodLonelyHearts seems too long. How about SidepodConnection?
sidepoddate
instead of wearing a red rose on the lapel to know who you are meeting, you could wear a panda badge.
Things are getting a bit weird so I'm going to get some food :-)
we can pick the meal for you via the comments (help break the ice).
]
gah! sausages!
Just in time!
Guys....i have an ipod question...just let me find out what make it is, and let me push all those negative hate filled feelings down back inside.
Disclaimer - RG, i still don't like Apple.
Gimme 2 ticks!
That would be good... I hate the ice! Its enough to put anyone off sober dating.
Have an iPod. Parents don't understand my hate.
I'm never good at initiating a conversation sometimes, especially with a stranger, and more to the point one of the female variety. Never know what to say in case I come out with the wrong thing and make myself seem weird.
There is a guy called Schumacher playing baseball... I wonder if he is also a...
:D
Well their is nothing worse than saying nothing.
Apart from maybe rapping.
i have a spooky feeling we've had this conversation before, but cannot find it. grr.
I know we have. Some kid was writing a book or something.
Hmmm... my (real) name came up with the National Stud - "Head stallion man"
One at a time ladies... LOL
Ah yes. In that case, moving on...
when he bought the book?
In times like these it shows whose been here quite a while and who hasn't :D
The advantages of pasta - ridiculously quick to cook.
I like this idea.
it was. there was a long conversation about who we'd set up an f1 singles site and something.
must've predated the wiki.
No, it wasn't it feels, recent.
I'm never really any good at initiating it ever, with anyone. Better than I used to be though.
Ha! Brilliant! That comment made my day :-)
you mean the wiki hasnt lived forever and ever and ever?
I remember something from a couple of months back. Early season, or just before it
When I joined, there wasn't even a, daily thread...
If you thik its good then comment of the year-it?
hehe, me either
Old school
I'm eating
Oh jolly good, Sidepodnostalgia. My favourite.
:)
It makes me feel young finding out about history! :P
I fixed my own apple problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:D :D :D :D
stupid piece of apple rubbish
*cough* go find the first podcast *cough*
Y'know, I have an urge to listen to episode 32
I think i have listened to the 2nd or third one...
Slightly related I listened to the first F1 minute yesterday :)
the 2nd is my favourite
I'll cry!!
wow!! i havent done that, *runs off*
Which one's that again?
Where's the oldest? digest or debrief?
Don't ask, just look ;)
Sidepodhugs!
You should be proud of it, history is part of everything we do. Atleast you spoke on the first few, Mr C just made random noises
Um, that was just a random number
Debrief all the way back in lat 06
:P
Mrs C sounds a little different... And has a different name!
she does?
STOP IT.
Hehehehehe :D
Well, slightly different.
I'll stop now. I can feel the naughty step getting ever closer...
Come on, nice and warm, look, we have pillows and cupcakes
I think i left some beer and popcorn there ;)
Ah but away from the naughty step we have cookies :P
No, you all carry on. I am sulking and stomping off to do the digest.
And nachos.
I have Wotsits, not really sure where i am
What was she called, Bob?
No, we nicked the nachos from Mr C's stay
The podcast had been going for less than 2 mins.... and Yuji has already been called an idiot!
That sounds weirder now I sent it
:(
Christine! <3
I can imagine it now:
"......What? There was a race and somebody won. What more do you want?..." :D
:)
Hello my friend, bit of space over there, hope you brought your own duvet.
Speaking of looking back... I'm watching A1GP from Malaysia.. from December. When that's done I'll catch up with Lou's photos because I missed that they'd been posted.
"It was a good race, if you didn't watch it, tough."
:D
If all those people keen to go through the archives also want to write the transcripts for me, that'd be ace, ta.
Didn't we have a few people a long time ago up for that? I'm sure Lou was one of them.
When you record them you need someone sat in the corner with a machine like they have in a courtroom, the name of which I've temporarily forgotten.
Mmhmm. Have always said, anyone is free to do it. Haven't seen any evidence yet though. It's harder than it looks :)
we couldn't coordinate it back then. we have a wiki now...
Electric chair?
Is the first episode done? I reckon I can do that easy enough.
Also true. Splitting it up into ten minutes or so would be ideal.
Never seen one of those in a courtroom
It is, sadly.
Awww man.
True... But if a judge has to be there when its used doesnt it make it a courtroom?
Ok... this is very morbid. Best stop
The early shows aren't that long compared to recent ones, if you want to do a shorter show RG. ;)
I don't proclaim myself an expert
Its the later ones that need doing
A lot of the early ones are done, it's only last year I fell behind.
They all need doing really :P
If I remember I will do the latest one tommorow :)
around the time of the 2hr 30min sidepodchats if i recall.
Grr Poles.
I have too much time over the summer holidays.
Anyone fancy the Sidepodchat :)
Same, it is why Christine gave me a bunch of ideas for blog posts :D
Made me thought, 'wiki plug' for your blog links if you haven't already
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Blog+Links
The thing is that I type fast... but you still couldn't do it in realtime. And if a show takes 2:30hrs to listen to it takes too long for any single person to transcribe - although Christine has made valiant efforts.
Ok the time has come... I am nervously opening up my goodwood videos and already praying i remember how to use premiere
Roughly speaking it takes me an hour to translate ten minutes.
It is usually at this point that all the volunteers disappear.
:o
Am still up for it.
you also type faster than any other person i know.
Mad optimism is the only reason anyone would think they would be able to do it faster than Christine.
hehe, well I haven't listened to the chats so I don't know how hard they'd be the normal shows I'm happy to help out with :)
Thanks RG :D
The first one was approaching three hours.
I'll set up some wiki stuff in a bit, RG. Can't hurt for it to be there, even if there are only a couple of people interested.
I wouldn't want to race Christine. But I am the person that people say this about in my life.
she didn't have the uber cool iphone-podcast-slowdown-button mind you.
Got there before me :)
Something is better than nothing :)
Lucky Steven isn't here or I'd be volunteered with that kind of comment :0
The bit Mr C doesn't like is when I'm typing and looking at him rather than the screen or the keys. Blows his mind a little bit :)
Haha I had that with Katherine the other day. She said, "stop showing off, there's nobody here who thinks that's cool".
"Really I asked?"
"[email protected] you!" she cried!
Sim racing news - I'm joining the Race-Shop World Series which is an online championship for Race Pro on the forums of the Race game's shop website. I''m joining a team of Volvo's called Prawn GP :D
:P :D
Hehehe.
Me too.
Uh, that is a bit freaky..
Wow, that is scary...
Somone at school used to do that, but she was a prodigal pianist.
Plus, there's prizes involved too.
ooh, tasty.
I can't play the piano. But I learned for 7 years.
After 7 years of training I can play 3 blind mice - badly. I still think it was worth it :)
Reason is because the guy who's made the team is someone I know from RD and is a VERY fast driver. We're also in the XTCC together in the Chevy team.
Lukeh, you seriously need Race Pro. You're missing out!
The best thing that anyone ever did was force me to learn touch typing. I thought I was fast until I did. Then I knew I was wrong - and could freak people out at the same time :)
Sounds serious!
3 more meece than a lot of us
I had it for a while but I couldn't get into it :(
Although they have patched it...
Although I still think that Christine's unusual use of the index finger to press the space button must be slowing her down.
Well it's all on the official game's shop website forums, so yes, it is quite a serious championship by the looks of it!
Glitches or no glitches, I love it. There's something about it that makes me drive lap after lap after lap and never get bored sometimes.
Just realised how much like a freaky psycho man that makes me sound.
On a parade lap last year this was commented on by somebody else and I remembered.
I'll probably pick it up again one day :)
Yes, I do not type proper.
it was? you learn something new everyday.
I find using my thumb unorthodox. I remember once back at school in Peterborough, our IT teacher told us pressing Space bar with your thumb was the right way. But I've always hit it with the index finger.
Thats the one part of typing i know how to do properly!
Some days i can do it for ages and not get bored, but i usually have to have some cars on the track too, even if its set to easy and they're not even close to me.
I've found that on certain classes hard is incredibly challenging (mainly some of the touring cars that understeer like nobodys business) but easy is too easy. So i've put it to manual gearbox and put it on easy, its alot more difficult then, and when i get the hang of that, theres a "manual with clutch" setting
:D
:)
You have Race Pro? What's your GT?
So I find myself being dragged away from the computer for dinner. I am going to suggest at this hour it must be supper? Who's with me?
In any racing game I always have manual gearbox (auto clutch), cockpit view, as default. I'm better at front-wheel drive touring cars than rear-wheel drive single seaters though.
I shall have some toast in protest.
protoast if you will.
Actually Katherine is still trying to claim that this is tea! It's not 4:30... What is going on?
Oooh, F1 reference in the speedway
:)
Depends how posh you are?
haha
Yeah. That's what I figured.
Same on the gearbox front. I used to run with automatic back in the PS1-GT1-just starting out on racing games-days. But I taught myself how to use manual gears and now I can't stand automatic. At any events with a simulator, I request if I can run manual gears if possible. They're actually OK with it anyway.
Tea! I was going to make a cup of tea. That must have been three hours ago.
See the thing is that she is making roast beetroot and bacon carbonara at half past nine at night and calling it tea.
I think that's cheating at being working class ;)
:D :P
That twitter updating kettle is *still* on Mr C's list!
Ha :-) I would call that a late dinner. I think my boss would refer to any meal after 5pm as supper.
See that's cheating at being Upper Class (eg. Middle Class)
Right I better go and have my Supper ;)
Have fun :)
and you.
see, this is why you guys stay up so late, you eat late too ;)
didnt your mummy ever tell you to not eat at night?
He does own the farm
Enjoy!
we are rebels
midnight snacks are the greatest thing ever
I had sausages and called it dinner! :D
you have 2.5 hours to wait ;)
If you didn't have HP sauce it doesn't count
Mayo and reggae reggae!

Food colouring?
I think that settles it... Girlfriend needed! (With cookbook ;) )
Beetroot! i think
ah yes 8-)
Evening all. Anything exciting occurring?
FRANCK!
I fixed an ipod (it wasn't mine)
Goodwood teaser...
Bruno in MP4/4
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/bruno-mp4-4-d2-mp4
How?
What's that stuff like?
What's he done? I know it's not a drive for Torro Rosso.
Well...less me fixing it, more turning the computer off and on again. Stupid itunes.
Ooh looks nice. Much better than my 1min on the hob pasta-with-filling and microwaved sauce from a pot.
Sunshiney?
Fruity with a little bit of kick would probably describe it best
FRANCK!
Ever so slightly better than that
Ah okay, may try that then
They do a ketchup as well which is similar... i think its better.
niiiicce
hullo :)
:D
Hi Lou.
Very cool of Franck to stop by and say hello.
It was a bit short!
HiLou
Hey lou
how is everyone tonight? i see Christine and Mr C are still excited about Franck's visit :D
I have a video of timo doing a burnout and a massive Donut.. Should i save it for the final video or dropio it now?
hmmm
Cor. I just finished making this page.
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Help+Us+Transcribe
James is keen :)
So were mine!
ooo yay! something for me to do this holiday! :D
go james!
Save the best to last.
Hehe, gonna do the Karting one. I quite liked that episode.
Might be a good one, there's a lot of me in there. It's much easier with less voices.
wow, you guys are awesome.
Hehe. I'm starting with the one and see how it goes. I've come up with an idea, I'm going to slow it down so your speaking real slow :D
Mr C do you really want to go to Spain to see Alonso (Re: Debrief)? :P
Why didn't I do this sooner?? :)
OK i will keep it for the final edit then
you should include a link to an existing transcript in there somewhere. one that shows more than one voice.
Good plan.
the atmosphere would be awesome. them fans are crazy. not sure if it'll happen though, i say a lot of things.
why?
Hehe I remember wanting to ask you when I listened back to live feed, and now I've just heard it again and I remembered :D
There are quite a few educated people who suspect Mr Alonso may well be the Devil Reincarnated...
Jus' Saying is all :P
Haha, I'm not one of them though :P
depending on who you believe, it'll likely be the only time it'll ever happen. if alonso does go to ferrari, there will be no more road shows for the man.
you probably wouldn't see very much, but i just like the idea of hanging out with that many crazy people.
Would you do it wearing a Hamilton cap? It would make a great video!
oh man, that would be amazing. you'd get killed
That...is just asking for trouble :D
are you thinking of going?
Anybody we don't like who's unsuspecting?
I'd love to, considering I lost my passport and haven't replaced it yet there is a bit of a problem
Can I just hold up my hand and say am not so sure about that!?
hehe. you may struggle with that :)
sept 5th seems so close and we have much to do in the meantime. we shall see.
you.would.hate.it.
but i had factored that into my non-plans.
It does sound like an outdoor based activity!
As in, I'm not invited?
Sidepodparty while Mr C goes to Spain? :D
as in, we'd find a nice hotel with fast internet and you can relay events to the comments from the sanctuary of the indoors.
or that.
Can you speak spanish?
Or do they speak Catalan?
no, why?
Inaugural meeting of the let's make fun of Mr C because he left Christine behind to go and meet some crazy people.
They speak of this Alonso. I can say that for certain.
google translators?
Its in spain... the crazy people will be...
Never mind.. The atmosphere should be Great! :D
my thoughts exactly.
Crazynesssssss http://www.racerxonline.com/article/robbie-maddison-bridge-flip-video.aspx
Last night on Tower Bridge
oh yeah what were the dates for that btw?
sept 5th if i recall. don't quote me tho.
oh. damn a few weeks after i come back from spain :(
All signed up in the Prawn GP Volvo for the Race-shop World Series, set to make my debut on the streets of Pau. :D
Ok, just another teaser, i think this will be the last one.
But have a listen to this...
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/tp-heli-car-mp4
Just looking at Lou's photos (I missed the shoutout yesterday, wasn't here). Great stuff! I had no idea you were so close to JB in the Merc stand, unless that's a zoom?
I prefer the Cesar's Palace thing.
Apparently I took a few goodwood videos myself... I don't remember. Just found a load of my sd card.
Thanks :) it was with a zoom.. but we were close yeah :) we were closer in other parts of the day.
you took some of the jenson interview didn't you?
I did! But you can't hear so well and me and chris need to shut up whilst jenson is talking ;)
it's not bad quality actually, you can hear him quite well but not amazing. Plus it's 300mb quicktime video. eep.
That came past me at speed when I was stood by the bridge, I was amazed!
Loeb was amazed by it, he got out his car and walked over.
i don't understand why it's making that noise?
I'll upload this vid of the red bull, toyota, mclaren and ferrari's all starting up alongside each other to the most wonderfully awesome (looooooooooooooud) noise :)
It has a helicopter engine! I love it!
I think we must have passed each other twice - once at Mercedes and once at the broken down Ferrari. I'd noticed that in Lukeh's pics but I've just crossreferenced our positions based on tree locations, and the Bonhams banner, in a photo you took and a photo I took.
Can you see yourself?
I will say in my defence, my photo was taken very hurriedly, so the quality is terrible...
how........?
We are probably down by the hay but in front of that guy in the white clapppingso you can't see as I remember making lots of inane comments about the loudspeaker :D
That guy was annoying, I wanted a nice clean shot..
Looking through old transcripts. Episode 62, about April last year. Fave convo
Mrs C: I’m rooting for Davidson to become a commentator.
Mr C: Yes, did a good job, but it’s a bit early for him maybe.
Mrs C: He probably wouldn’t like it just yet.
Uh hu.
wow, we must have been so close. i was looking out for you, i promise...
Before Mrs C asks, I was wondering how ya did voicemails.
It's been done quite a few times - you just run a drive shaft direct to the differential - no gearbox required but plenty of turbo lag!
Its here on wikipedia.. Apparently wasn't the success they hoped.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howmet_TX
I was looking for you too! I was on the way back down the hill at that point, didn't stay long otherwise I'd have been by the hay, but I wanted to get to the paddock one last time.
Pat did you see anyone in a rubens cap attempting to balance 2 icecreams and a bottle of water?
in what sense? we pay skype for the service and then record an intro message.
For transcripts
oh no my friend, looking at my goodwood pics, now thinks i stalk jenson.
1:50 through the latest show....
Only another 48:55 to go. :D
:)
ahhh. i find you an example.
I saw lots of things. Don't remember that though.
I'm being consistently amazed at the number of fast moving cars in this set that are a) in the photo at all, b) in focus while the background is moving, c) look good. What is this witchcraft.
He. Stalked. Us!
that's what i said!
im not sure you need to look at the pics to see that ;)
I think it's just like:
[Begin voicemail]
Name: message
[End voicemail]
:D
Oh my. I do like that.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/loujohnson/3713457499/in/set-72157620975572963/
you beat me:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/episodes/transcripts/episode66.pdf
I turned one of my pics that didnt work into a lovely arty shot of a man photographing a cap :P ;)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/3714522506/in/set-72157621224446591/
Yeah, thanks Mr and Mrs C. Was just checking through them.
Ah. I didn't think of editing them to hide the mistakes. Drat.
Car!
Or at least you used to until he got the court order...
hahaha :P
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/100-1499-mov
Not much going on but I just love how they all start up and that awesome noise, as insanely loud as it was :)
Accompanied by 10 seconds of forgetting to stop filming...
I don't that's the case at all. You just sometimes planned your whereabouts to be where his abouts were, and other times bumped into him.
Eddie Irvine looking at you in that photo must have been a bit scary. He scares me. Allan McNish gave me a strange look.
Oh dear.. I appear to have taken a lot of video of Loeb.
I must have the same problem as kimi... Rallying sounds amazing after drinking.
:D
i like this bit, but frankly its missing out on a "oh man, im still filming!!"
okay i'm off to watch revolutionary road. back later (depending if my friend lets me) bye! x
These days they call that Special Features and put it on the DVD anyway.
Awesome! I think you are taller than me! either that or you hold the camera higher!
enjoy! :)
Must go, love how everyone slated Massa after the first two races in 08. Man, reading transcripts is better than listening.
Night everybody!
3:05 through the latest show....
Long way to go :D
Harder than you think, you two talk to much :P
I'm only 5'7! I just borrows bristol zoo's giraffe is all.
Who's Much? Is he on first?
hehe, thats one way to get there... and at least you'd find it in the car park!
You shouldn't have picked the 50 minute episode :)
Very true. but they talk to much anyway :P
yes we do!
night squire.
But we love you for it :D
Do a transcript and then come back and say that :P
Knight
As long as it's one of the shorter shows, my statement stands. :P
ahem
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Help+Us+Transcribe
Really going now.
Gone for Episode 98, since it's the shortest :D
If i started one i dont think you guys would ever see me on here again!
Aside with Joe 3 is actually.
*Turns computer off*
Shortest F1 Debrief then. ;)
There were 2 1996 FW18's at goodwood. But no 95, 97,98,99 cars...
I Find this strange.
Ok..heres a question thats always bugged me....
What does the GV: mean next to certain storys on autosport?
It's been on a few storys recently
Grapevine.
Slighly not news off topic stuff
Gossip!
aaahhh of course. thankye :)
The lack of '98 and '99 cars is no surprise because they were bloody awful.
Sidepodspace:

This website recreates the Apollo 11 mission in real time. Looks pretty slick already with a few days to go before "launch"
woah!
I get update tweets from 40 years ago http://twitter.com/ApolloPlus40
Its interesting
Evening all
on CUE!!
hehehe
Who's to bet he was lurking 'till someone mentioned something space related?
I am barely here. Not feeling at all well but after sitting through all those failed launch attempts I was not going to miss another one
Shuttle must be soon?
17 minutes
awww. did you go outside?
My internets haz gone slow
Hi Steven.
Currently watching from the earth to the moon... awesome TV series!
I opened a doohickey a few hours ago but didn't get as far as seeing a single commment. When I woke it up though I did see some mention of Franck's visit so I assume Christine has hada good day
Franck visited Christine?!
Nope. Was inside onsidepodcast most of yesterday. Woke ip this morning feeling awful and it has persisted. Most unlike me. I don't get ill
I had a song in my head the other day, you know how you get a small part of a song go around and around again? Took me ages to figure it out.
F1 Minute intro.
! Sidepodflu?
Hope it disappears just as quickly.
*sends virtual lemsip*
Yup, on iheartfranck.com
:D
http://iheartfranck.com/about-me/
hehe. yeah, that happens. especially if you have to catch up on a couple.
Greatly appreciated
Well isn't she just the media darling :D
Two flight controllers called no go due to weather again
I hadn't at the time, maybe it was a sign. I am catching up now, just listened to 8 of them.
We have 12 minutes till the launch window opens and it will be open for 5 minutes
was just about to say, it looks dark and cloudy
Launch scrubbed
I swear I just came in :P
Shuttle is currently no-go due to lighting in the area
Really!? How come
Can they go later?
Must be tough on the astronauts to be loaded up so often and to have made all the preparations only to have to go through the loop again
That's an Apple song called Move it.
Lightning, clouds etc
they have a ~10 min. launch window per day
There are no other windows today. It will either be a 24 hour or 48 hour delay.
They should move it all to alaska
They have to launch into the orbital path of the space station so they only have one shot per day approximately and the window is only ever 5 minutes.
are you sure?
Too much gravity there and its a bit cold. It is more efficient to launch nearer the equator.
Speaking of music, what was that band from the parade lap again?
Yup, F1 minute song is called Move It. It's an Apple song which goes onto iPhones when they're restored. I've tested enough to know!
interesting. to me it's an apple loop called "offroad" that comes with garageband.
they should move to french guyana... oh, wait, is already taken ;-)
What about somewhere like colorado or New mexico.
The weather near the equator is clearly not suited to hosting a space programme...
the manics?
Hmm, different name to what comes up on the iPhones. But it's all garageband.
A newly restored iphone should have no music on it at all.
Um. could be. It was some band I asked if they were pod safe and someone said they had released some stuff for that.
The ones at work restored by the engineers and us in the repair centre get a load of garageband songs put on and a Apple sound check track.
yup, thats them.
Cool, ok.
But all iPhones get flashed at least twice - once when they come in, then once when we get them if that's the fault and again before being quality assessed.
There is a commercial spaceport being set up in New Mexico. Part of the problem is that they need to be able to drop solid rocket boosters, external fuel tanks and the lower stages of he shuttle replacement vehicle in the see. The SRBs get jettisoned after about two minutes so they need to be well out to see in that time. So you need something close to the east coast.
And preferably non-seismic, I guess...
NASA just called for a 48 hour delay. Tomorrow's weather is not good. Wednesday should be better. Window opens is 17:58pm Easter / 22:58pm UK
That helps
Can't they just buy some pacific nation that is sinking?
Yeah, i guess thats a problem, but if they can direct the flight of a smart bomb why not a can of fuel?
There is masses of free space around the 4 corners states, and not that much to miss.
NASA also said that the launch window is ten minutes and that the launch time published is not the opening of the window but the ideal launch time. So there is the possibility to go 5 minutes either siade of that.
The music is synched after the restore then.
Come on it was only one test, you didnt even lose it! I'm sure you guys will bounce back ;)
If they make the discarded bits steerabl that adds weight and any added weight is a big issue as you need to add many times that weight in fuel to launch it.
hehe. that one could bounce back on you.
I am pretty sure it will...
But you set it up... I HAD to hit it!
Clearly NASA are ignoring Christines letter giving them permission to launch yesterday.
I was think about Tuvalu, but that was pretty funny.
Couldnt they just controll it via small motos in the chute ropes?
I am sure they have thought of all this though. Just seems silly to have so many smart people put something together they cant use because its raining...
There is actually a company that tries to launch from a sea platform (a re-converted petrol platform that they can move around). Until now they had something like three failed attempts (including an on-site explosion). But the idea is there, at least for small rockets.
:D
I had a rather interesting visualisation on the way home from work. While listening to Knights of Cydonia on my iPhone, I had playing in my head a scenario where it was the championship deciding race in Brazil and I was in a Williams and Lukeh was in a Brawn. I got pole with Lukeh alongside me, led the first few laps, then had a spin, had to pass Amy in the McLaren, Alianora in the Force India, R.G (who was rather reluctant) in the Toyota and then Lou in the other Brawn to get back to 2nd. I then passed Lukeh at the second round of stops and we battled for the remaining laps, passing and repassing before a virtual dead heat at the line, with me getting the win and the title by 0.001 seconds. I then got back to the pits, stood on top of my car and celebrated, did a back flip off it, celebrated with my crew and friends from work since I'd invited them down as my car was sponsored by Anovo, then went on the podium.
I have these often when listening to music I like. It's quite cool actually :D
You dont' work in a paint factory or something do you?
:D :P
That's mad! Brilliant but mad :P
I love having music visualisations. I can picture so well what I would do with music and formula 1 videos but the problem is getting the clips and media with ease, otherwise I'd make a ridiculous amount of stuff probably.
I wonder if they considered the weather when they went to Florida i the first place. Of course safety wan't a huge proirity then.
The problem is not only the direction, they have to survive the lading. In the sea, you can hit the water harder than you would be able in the ground (or conversely, you need stronger and heavier things if they're going to hit the ground)
Never heard of that.
Same here! I've recently been having visualisations of videos to make on Forza 3 involving a white Gallardo and a black Audi R8 set to Michael Jackson.
I think me and Lukeh have some issues... :D
I almost fell asleep listening to the debrief, clearly I shouldn't try transcribing it whilst I'm tired. :D
It's called pent up creativity ;)
It's at the bottom of the page
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Best+Comment+of+the+Year
This man's on the same wavelength as me. I like it! :D
Best thing is, with the Forza 3 video editor, those videos will be possible. They involve a lot of spins and tricks and formation driving and drifting and such.
Are you sure its not just good old fashioed insanity
Insanity's good but I like to make use of my insanity to a good cause.
Photoshop.
2+2 = 4
See, I'm not insane.
They are possible in many racing games without the chavvy drifting stuff.
Look for 'Sea Launch' in Wikipedia. Actually, they've had many more launches than I thought (26 success, 3 failures).
Neither are you a Radiohead fan.
'Lightings at ten miles. Woohhooo! That will make a beautiful backdrop for the pictures'
Well, after this short SidepodBreak, I'll get back into the lab. See you.
That looks like an interesting idea. I am surprised it is stable enough
What sort of lab?
One of the Apollos (12?) was actually hit as it launched
Surely there are enough islands around. I know it would be a pain to transport all the equipment, but an island is better than a platform.
Drifting is not chavvy at all. It's the best expression of car control. Those who can do it well i.e. the Japanese turn it into an art form.
Heck, it must be the 2nd national sport behind baseball! The D1 Grand Prix is massive in Japan. Thanks to that, it's spread to America and Europe very quickly.
You can just load it up and tow it out to wherever the weather is good though..
Hey Mr C, check this out, some pretty amazing looking web galleries built on Snow Leopard
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3R6sb4NO25E
They can? I was picturing something like an oil rig.
Drifting is fake
Seems to me the people interested are the people who lower their rubbish 2-door hatch and black out the windows, and putt those utterly stupid looking blue/purple lights all over their cars.
Physics lab. The kind of labs that don't let yo go until 1AM in the long days... :-)
Apollo 12 experienced a direct hit shortly after lift-off which shut down the entire spacecraft's systems. Luckily they tried turning it off and back on again and everything worked fine.
A lot of those can be moved too...
A self-propelled oil rig...
Good night all
Night.
Ah is it fun?
Or is it more: electron 1 vs proton 2 ...fight!
Oh ***. I never did make that cup of tea.
am confused, that says webkit/safari. it'll work on windows too then?
Night
:D
In the good days, yes.
In the bad, nop.
GAH! Who on earth decided with Vista it was sensible to take out the 'type' sort by option when right clicking in windows explorer? Really annoying having to put it back in every single freakin' time.
Hell who on earth decided Vista was sensible. Grr.
I hate the UI changes they made in Vista. Making it "easier" for most people has made it so hard for power users. Win 7 is better, but still has those stupid changes
I have to disagree. There's a LOT more skill involved than just turning the wheel full opposite lock and flooring it.
Sounds like something out of a James Bond film.
Wouldn't that be shark propelled?
Everyone who was part of the decision to put Vista on the market should be shot at least.
I dunno, but it looks pretty amazing.
I suppose I better get some rest before this silly c++ resit tomorrow. Bleh.
night all!
At least. Something medieval would be better
good luck
Night
you can technically already do it with this:
http://www.cooliris.com/
and then browsing the sidepoddrop. but natively is cool. i'd imagine it would work for leopard too though.
It takes a lot more skill to keep it in line and go through a corner absolutely as fast as the car can go or to slide it through a corner on the loose in a rally where you have to slide but only by the bare minimum.
Drifting is just designed to make drivers look as though they are doing something extraordinary when they are nowhere near the level of F1 or WRC drivers.
It is like comparing wrestling with boxing or martial arts.
fingers crossed.
Good luck with that
Right been through my goodwood stuff
I am down to 91 video clips, 21 narrations which i may or may not use and 3 useless videos of jenson.
This will take some editing!
91!! Nice work
I have never watched astronauts getting out of the shuttle at the pad before. I wonder why not.
I cut out about 30 which were bad, of nothing, out of focus or out of frame.
That's because they usually get out at the runway.
Thanks Andy. Now I understand. This crew must have got out at the pad a couple of times by now
I think this should wait for tomorrow...
I must say, given their pace, and the RBR pace, i’m surprised both Brawns were not changed to a two stop. {Comment #25}
To be fair, the Brawns were having trouble getting the soft to work for even 12 laps. By the time they realised how bad their problem was, they were looking at a pair of 23-lap stints on medium tyres. It would have been a little risky, but manageable.
