It's Friday and at long last the 2010 Season is underway. In just a few short hours we will be up again, ready to watch Free Practice 1 and from then on, it's all about the racing. Well, hopefully. There's lots of good stuff and many threads to come today, so keep your eyes peeled so you don't miss a thing.
- Jake has written another great blog post, this time talking about time spent with some of the drivers ahead of the weekend's action. I particularly find the Schumacher/Rosberg stuff fascinating because we've seen visual evidence of their distaste for each other now, and... it's scary stuff!
- It's the last day to change your Fantasy Racers teams and whilst there will be a reminder post along later, I thought it was worth mentioning now. Particularly as I want to give a shout out for Pat's fabulous post about the different prediction and fantasy F1 games that are available at the moment. I had no idea there were so many!
- All that stuff about McLaren's rear wing is coming to a head now the teams have gathered together, and there is plenty of discussion about the silver car's extra hole. Scarbs has the detail (for Mr C), whilst Autosport put it into English (for me). Ahh, controversy. Is it November yet?
- In self-promotion news, Mr C wrote a great introduction to the Force India podcast which makes a triumphant return for 2010. More audio from teams is greatly appreciated. The man also posted a breakout regarding Renault's new sponsor, and he actually managed to create a picture with no red in it. Woohoo!
That'll do it for now. I know you're excited already, so instead, why not tell me how and where you are watching Free Practice, if you are. I'll see you in the comments.
BOssano, I need that wiki link again
Thanks for the plug Christine :)
The SPC wiki?
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/
I didn't realise there was a Schumacher/Rosberg thing
Aha! The Factbyte Factbox! FOlks, I'm jonsing over here... I need the countdown clock
Long winter
Seeeeee! There was you making fun of me.... I know things or hadn't you realised :P
If I'd thought about it, seems quite natural
I bow to your superior F1 knowledge ;)
Me neither
Oh don't say that. You'll have Nick accusing me of being a sports fan again!
Well you outfoxed Steven & I
I think I'll just call it female intuition.
BBC F1 promoting tweets on the homepage
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/bbc-f1-tweets-jpg
Joe Saward agrees
There are also rumours that there is a certain amount of friction inside Mercedes GP as the data of the two cars is not being shared as it is in other teams
Is Bahrain 4hrs ahead as well?
I believe so
I posted that 20 minutes ago
2 q's-
1. Is there an archive of these daily chat streams?
2. Has Bernie ever visited this, or come sniffing around for ideas?
Eurgh. That's not ideal for them is it...
well that was predictable
Hooray live timing app is downloading! First time i tried it told me my phone was not supported even though its in the list of devices. Second time was a charm. This might be just what I need at my races this year :D
Expected behaviour from Darth though
Fair enough. I don't like to be judgmental. I've never watched him before.
Yup
Pick your Daily or use the search function
Probably, not publicly though
Zero surprise. Wonder what Ross would say to Nico if he came to complain... He's been throught this before.
Everything that has ever been said here is still on th site.
2. No
Cool
Morning Amy
http://sidepodcast.com/category/daily/
The same thing happened with Johnny Herbert at Benetton the first time he went faster. It was decided that he shouldn't see Schumacher's data
I hope Keke decides to become vocal on this
Gotta imagine someone in FOM is trying to think this big
(Thx again Bos)
I think theres as much chance it was Nico not letting as it is Michael.
Probably 'you know where the door is'
You like fireworks, SR?
It's not necessarily best for the team overall though is it....
Same
[and Jacques]
Nope, but Schuey doesn't think about that [nor care]
Absolutely no way. Ross Brawn would never allow that. Drivers don't get to decide how a team operates unless they are special
Ross does though....
ye
s
If Schuey delivers, on the other hand, he might not care
Kinda feel for Nico... A lot of people think this was his make-or-break year anyway.
He'll want nothing less than he got this year. Both championships, if they aren't sharing then they'll only win one.
They have Heidfeld in the background and he has no delusion of being world chmpion
And he's up against "Darth" :)
I like him, but he has this opportunity to prove his worth or fade into the background
He never has before. He has only ever been interested in helping Schumacher
Can't see them getting either to be honest
that was quite a few years ago, why does no-one think that something could ahve changed?
oh of course, i cant either, but it wont stop him wanting both
Jean Todt was a bit instrumental in that too
They are not going to get either. Their car is not good enough.
They won two championships a few times while the second driver was hamstrung. It's how they operate
Spots and Leopards
(Offtopic-- The software for this site is FABULOUS. I wanted to review a link Bos had provided earlier in the evening, but had forgotten the cross over midnight over there. SO I go to the March 11 page and everything's there. Neatly archived. In less than an hour, presumably automatically. Brilliant!
Ooooh maybe I could make a fantasy racers team. I've not played before. How many people can you have?
Live commenting baby!
£50m worth, your choice
http://www.fantasyracers.com/
Yeah I've tried to get someone to explain to me before why Braun's reputation isn't more tarnished by his Ferrari years.... It makes zero sense to me. People hardly mention it unless they're saying "strategy genius"
FOM should just cut Mr & Mrs C a check and call it home
The NFL shouild do this, too (American bonebreak football)
It's enough, he also seems to get the most out of his team
They have been operating like that since Benetton and just because they have been separated for a couple of years they believe that the methods that created the most successful spell any driver ever had are wrong now?
We live commented the Superbowl, many IRL races and some NASCAR
They were operating that way before Ferrari. Todt jjust moved them in and let them get on with it
Alison, say more about that...
Does this have anything do to with Ruben's outbursts last year?
hahahaha
Probably, he got burnt in the past
app would not let me log in so i used "try" instead which lets you get one weekend without registering. It looks good! Id say the paid iphone app gives you a lot more data though.
All that happens at midnight is a new thread opens. This one is archiving live. The software is unbelievable though. I think Mr C should be selling it
'09 was a blip. Before his sabbatical he was an evil genius - people have forgotten this now.
Live visual GPS positions for every session plus split times, gaps, etc
And timing replays
Can't remember but it is in the rules. Set a team up now and then you can change it later but this way you won't end up with no drivers
Didn't know
Yeah they've forgotten pretty quickly! Makes you think Piquet could have been forgiven now Flav is out the way (if only he wasn't so darned slow and spinny...)
Beats me because I have been pointing out his contribution all alongg
HOw evil? Why did Rubens put up with it?
Watching those old races on Justin is embarrassing
He got to drive for Ferrari
I don't think you can forgive a driver who willingly crashes, even if he was under a lot of mental pressure
So did Luca.
Sorry, couldn't resist. Rubens just looks like a poodle in those old races..
He's a nice guy, but he's not whiter-than-white
Agree STRONGLY
Quite a few time last season I made this point to Lou when she was saying how great he was and what a great team etc. That was just opportunism but now he will be back to his normal mode
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/f1-app-jpg
I have this fantasy where Nelsinho's making a connecting flight through the region and he gets arrested at the singapore airport
speaking of rubens i am glad he is up first on the autograph stage, if i am there when gates open i should be able to park myself right at the front and get good photos all day.
Why does he get arrested?
Exactly. I do think it helped his driving, but he had to play no.2.
He was threatened with being fired.
What people remember is Austria 2002 but they forget Austria the previous season. In 2001 Rubens was running second when he got the call to give up the position. After the press had a go after the race Ferrari said they would never ask him to give up a win. Then the next season they did exactly that.
Crimes against crash barriers?
That needs to be more widely available
Errrr how am I supposed to decide on a team name by myself?? Please help me!
FOr making race fans in LA so angry. And putting Singporean race fans at reckless risk
Just over a pound a race
Nick said similar, that's why the iPhone & iPod Touch sell so well
Exclusivity?
Alfonso-a-go go
maybe something to do with the name of your car :)
erm Alison's racers. Or something really difficult to say so that Mr C has a problem on the podcast.
Which driver's have you chosen to see if that inspires a name
Awesomeness
Selling in the millions since 2008
I heart Alphonso
What does that have to do with the availability of the F1 app on other systems?
Good call. Alphonso's destiny
the iphone one looks lovely but i would need to spend $800 to get it so i will quick with free and less data. Remind me to get lots of credit for roaming with in europe. 1-2mb per session at 10c per kb in roaming fees = ouch
Depends what the market is like for Android, Web OS & Windows 7 apps
(98 monaco on Justin)
Alphonso WIIIIINNNNNSSS
Might be cheaper to get your phone unlocked and buy a local SIM
10c per kb isnt right. I cant remember what it is. Ah well, my point still stands
Mm I need to call Orange in case I spend a lot when I'm away soon. My data charges are horrendous at the minute.
UK roaming charges [for Europe] £6 per MB!!
I bought a 10MB bundle to be safe
i did ponder that, my phone is already unlocked too. Cant be bothered with having a new number though #lazy . Also, mclaren need to reach me on this number for my pit tours ;)
O2 also let me put a cap on the data I use whilst away
If I reach it, data stops dead in it's tracks
Errr Amy you don't have to use the number for anything except roaming!
At a much better rate, I must add
if i buy a $129 recharge i get $1250 of credit and i think that shall be plenty
Sounds good for a couple of months
Head explodes!!!
Check the small print though
Did you get your team sorted out Alison?
i got a local sim in singapore though and told everyone the number for while i was away but people were still constantly texting my usual number. So not only am i lazy, my friends and family are dumb :D
I can lend you a phone for texts and calls if you want
I have one or five lieing around the place
the small print looks pretty good, credit can be used for everything both here and overseas. The flexible credit is the only reason i stay on prepay. If i went on a contract i could get a free iphone but i couldnt use the phone in the way i want :D
What do you weant to do with it?
I'm still doing it! I spent about 10 minutes trying to work out what page P would be on in the league list....
cheers mr clapper i shall let you know which method i choose. Is it just me or is spa really soon? I can count the months on one hand! #windingupalison
Once you get the team sorted remember to join the sidepodcast private league. It's called Panda Racing 2010
Shh, you'll wake Christine with that talk
#FiveMonths
i mostly use my phone to make international calls and all the monthly contracts here only include calls to aus numbers.
Skype for iPhone
Yes I have done that's what I was looking for! :P
I can't decide whether I'd like to have Jenson with enough money for Rubens or if I should stick with Lewis and a rubbishy driver. Damn that 0.5 million difference....
I think it'll be listed by scores.
Skype is your friend!
ahh the leagues, ignore me
It screwed me up as well. Twice I thought I had a great team sorted out and discovered that half a million screwed me up.
i use skype all the time but my parents have the worst internet connection in the world so we normally give up on it quite quickly
International calling cards
I used to call the UK from Sydney for 2¢ per minute
I see Go Alphonso Go.
Surprised by your choice of flag. I expected a saltire
Nooo but skype is useful for calling phones as well. I ring Nick's mobile from my mobile a lot. With the gracious intervention of skype it only costs me about 8p a minute.
I didn't actively choose a flag at any point?
Nationality?
Nationality?
Think it defaults to British
Brundle pit walk in Monaco
thats still costing extra though. Cv the moment i pay $29 a month and can text or call anyone anywhere and use as much mobile internet as i can and not run out of credit. If i went on the equivalent $29 monthly contract all of my international options cost me more, even if it is a tiny amount.
You can change it by selecting player profile from the left hand pull down menu
Found the page for travel bundles.
£5 for 3MB or £12 for 10MB.
Okay I'll have a poke around. I don't think I chose a nationality. Maybe it gave me a default one.
That's good, I paid £20 for 10MB
Grrrr I really want Rubens. He's definitely the best of the cheaper drivers. I could make it work if I lost my beloved Sebastian :(
I'll get 3MB because I doubt I'll use my phone once I've arrived. It is supposed to be a holiday.. but I have already found the Latitude app on m.google.com
I've stayed up later than planned. Looks like I'll be watching FP1 after work. :-) I will try to get up, no promises.
Night for now.
De Seb will score a few points this year, for sure ;)
See ya Pat
what is it that james allen has written that scoopy is so annoyed by? This is the second tweet i have seen but being proper internetless makes it hard to follow up on.
Dunno, just seen that myself
we suggest @Jamesallenonf1 should read 6.5.2 of the #F1 tech regs before publishing in future
Yes I think so. I was going to have him and Alonso and Hamilton and then I need someone else cheap.
I will have Kobayashi or one of the force india people. I find it hard to choose!
I got Liuzzi
Monaco 98 parade lap starting.... (Here, I'll be your silent color commentator) Pretty girls in the stands.... Teenagers with ear protection...
MEchanics leave the grid....
Rolling past san devote up the hill
OK, enough. But I love this sport, and I love MONACO
I assume you have gone for the no changes option then? I thought about that but I am still not sure enough of who has a good car and who's is not as good as testing suggested. I can see someone making no changes winning though
So have I. Although I may change
If only I had 1/2mill more
Yes. I just know I'll forget to change it if I don't.... I might lose interest too. I'd like to just leave it alone.... I fixed my name and my flag though! Super proud!
Yes.... I really want Rubens :(
Yep
I feel sorry for Webber. Hardly anyone has picked him.
Your team looks so much better with that flag
71 people also appear to have chosen Lopez.... Maybe not the wisest choice!
I keep forgetting the stats
Last year there was one race where a load of people had Schumacher and Massa even though neither of them were racing
Webber has been chose 30 times more that Trulli. Incredible
Sebastian has been chosen by 3.5 times more people than Mark. I mean I love Sebastian, but I don't think he's that much better....
But he'll score more points, people are hedging their bets and going for the best driver in each team
Well yes. My Seb is going to win big! I want Alonso to win the championship this year though :D
He was worth you not having the magic half million. You could swap him for Webber
I think McLaren will disappear into the distance so I have both their drivers and because I want the option to change if that is not the case I have Hulkenberg who will be the big story of the early part of the season and Liuzzi
Nooooooo!! I hate Webber.
Am I right in saying you get points for laps completed? So Sutil would be a daft choice?
I have The Hulk in my work FR team
You get points for laps completed so at some of the short tracks with lots of laps it is better to have lots of drivers than a few good drivers
I don't think my team is going to be great tbh. It's more of a popularity contest than an actual prediction.
He is going to be an overnight sensation and Rubens is not going to be number one at Williams for long.
You have some good drivers there and if the top cars turn out to be pretty even you should score well
Well aren't we all praying for it to be close?
I am
It would be nice if they were all really close although I could cope with Mercedes being slow
Yes. I'll let you away with that. I dislike Nico and Darth.
Why don't you like Nico?
I think they have car problems going by some of their statements and I would not be surprised to see Williams ahead of them in the first few races
I just don't.... Erm maybe it's because I think he's a bit rubbish but full of himself. Doesn't stop me feeling sorry for him in his current situation though.
They've had car problems for 9 months.... You'd think they'd have it sorted by now!
Have started 'Where The Wild Thngs Are',
been meaning to watch this for months
Such a favourite childhood book
I LOVE the soundtrack! Completely makes the film.
I dislike him for being one of the prettiest human beings who ever lived, and for having a girlfriend who's even PRETTIER
I think he was really good in GP2, then went to Williams and made a mistake by staying there, sometimes being loyal to a team pays off (if your name is Jenson) but rarely.
I'm not tired but should go to bed, otherwise I shall start fantasising about racing a 2cv again...and thats not normal! night
#hasjustrealisedalisonwasntaroundlastyearsothatwillsoundwierd
You think he's pretty? I really can't describe how much I don't.
Night Jon
You don't like him cos he has a pretty gf?
Does it translate well to older folks? I never saw it because I wasn't sure if the nostalgia effect was enough.
His childlke appearance makes him seem even MORE pathetic next to the man Bossano calls Darth :) And that Darth is SO MEAN... He won't share data! It's like he wants to WIN or something
Will let you know later
The film is definitely not made for children. I think it's made for people who read the book when they were children and have grown up. A child wouldn't understand it.
I just saw a snapshot, she seemed kinda intense... I felt pure animal jealousy
Mmm, for a blonde... Not my cup of tea really
http://img34.imageshack.us/i/viviann.jpg/
Jeez, I didn't mean to interrupt the convo
My friend's kids loved it
Maybe you're right... The one I saw she was smiling and prettier
So it's adult themed puppetry much like Dark Crystal or Labyrith?
No worries, we multitask quite a bit here :)
*Labyrinth
OH, well, I'm still envious of him for being an f1 driver living in Monaco
I don't want to spoil it for Bassano who's about to watch it but I saw it with kids who got a bit bored. I really liked it and had a great conversation with my sister about it (after the film :D)
The Suess movies have been disappointkments, compared to what the books mean to people
Ah, I gotcha.
Is Suess big over there?
I don't think they're as big in Europe as the States
Not read or seen any myself
I've never heard of it.
Right. Cereal and masterchef time!
Dr Seuss, Cat in the Hat, etc
We've all heard that they're going to making a F1 related flick right? I really hope Hollywood doesn't jack this up.
I've always thought Senna/Prost would make an excellent movie, but they're focusing on up until 1982
Wow, I thought that stuff would travel. It's too strange and playful to be constrained by idioms
Oooooh well yes, I have heard of that. I never used to like them particularly as a kid.
Historical footage or fictional drama?
Le Mans is one of my favorite movies, but the plot is hideous. I only watch it alone.
Hlywoodised
Not interested
Same. My mom read me the Beverly Cleary books.
The thing I read said they are doing 1968 to 1982 beteen the Clark and VIlleneuve accidents. I really don't see the point on doing a movie like this or how you can cover 15 seasons in 2 hours
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81996
Agree with Bassano... Wait for it to show up on TV
What was the theme of those 15 years? 'Safer at the end than the beginning'?
Man you guys are good with the links and hte help
The last F1 project ended being a Stallone movie
Nuff said
Very good point.
Speaking of Clark, I made it a point to visit his shrine on the backside path of Hockenheim and gave him a moment of silence.
HOw could a movie like that NOT be a disappointment to fans?
It would have to be a lost plot from shakespeare to make race people ignore the errors of details
I agree. They're also making a movie of the Dark Tower novels and I'm sure they'll mess that up too.
The first movies from CLancy novels were OK, because those plots were two-dimensional anyway
Oh man, these monsters are wicked!
#WhereTheWildThingsAre
The best book to movie I've seen was the old Andromeda Strain movie. Quite true to the book.
I've never even heard of a race car novel ('cepting Saward's nonfiction tales)
Nothing obvious that I can see other than the fact you start off with cars with no wings and end up with full ground effect and turbos but I can't see a movie about technology
That was a neat movie, wasn't it? Same year as LeMans, a good time to be twelve years old!
I want to go there. Apparently there is a new one going up.
And be of absolutely no interest to non-fans
Senna/Prost is a great book. Jackie Stewarts book, Winning is not Enough is awesome too.
A good inside story of Bernie's takeover of the sport would be fun to read, but he's not a memoir kind of guy... and he'll never be pushed out, to have time to write
Exactly. Movie stars won't help
The shrine there is tiny. There is a little nature walk on the backside of Hockenheim and they have a placard there honoring Clark.
While living in Germany, I drove Hockenheim many times and each time would pay Jim a visit.
His first one, early seventies, was good to read. He talked about some neat things, comparing driving to boxing, and talking about how Chapman would say all the wrong things at (frequent) funerals.
I have seen pictures of it
I get the feeling we owe Stewart a lot for the contemporary safety. I'm very very glad Mr Kubica is still with us.
That was a horrible wreck. I was there for that and it made me sick to my stomach. I was very happy to hear later on that Robert was still ok.
Dale E's death did quite a bit to help safety in motorsports.
Same thing with Senna. Toward the end of his life he was very concerned about safety in F1.
I was a fan of the sport as a teenager, but then got into rock and roll after Donahue died. Rock stars were more likely to survive no matter how many drugs they did. Everytime there's an accident like Massa's I feel a tinge of shame for loving a blood sport.
I'm glad he won his first race on it's anniversary
Wonderful moment for the city and the sport
Stewart had to fight with everyone including drivers to get them to understand that safety should even be considered
Same. I've always liked Robert. Good guy and very rarely does he have a bad thing to say.
I saw an interview where he said the odds of surviving in his glory years were something like ½ or a third
The great thing about Turn 8 in turkey is that it only humiliates drivers, it doesn't kill them! They can get back on the track and entertain people
Mario said the same thing. He said that every time he got in the car, he was prepared to die.
He talks about a sportscar (Ferrari 512?) win in Sebring as being a proudest moment... And when he climbed in for the last stint, he didn't bother putting his seat belt on.
I can't remember the stats but he said something about the odds of someone doing 6 seasons being more likely to die than live. He also said something about all the friends of his who died racing and the number is over 50
Don't remember that but could well be true.
Hard to be proud. I'm old enough to be Massa's father... And I was thinking in Hungary, am I asking children to die for my amusement?
Massa's not a child though. He's an adult who's chosen to be a racing driver.
Anyone who gets in a race car knows the risks. None of them are doing it to entertain the fans
You guys are right, but it's OK with me that it's less of a blood sport than it used to be.
Heck, I'd be cool with fenders in F1 if they protected people.
They don't allow turbos any more, helmets are required... The formula evolves
Heck some guys think it's OK to park at Rascasse :)
Very true. If they were in it for the fans, you'd never seen Michael take out Damon or Senna/Prost taking each other out.
Yeah, sounds nice so far
I have suggested on a few forums that they should put something in front of and behind the wheels to stop them interlocking and launching other cars. Every time I ever suggested it I got slaughtered
Jim, what did you think of those moments?
You ever need a vote, think of me
It just seems like the most successful talents in the sport will always have that arrogance. They are willing to challenge obvious physical laws, as well as the secret ones that the rest of us don't know about
Hard to say... I am disgusted but I understand it, if that makes any sense.
Yep
I'd never try it, but then again I pay for my race cars and if I break, I have to buy.
G'night for now, see you guys in here later
and thanks for the chat!
(poof)
Time for bed. 3 hours sleep and then FP1. Good night all
Night
Night Steven
Hope to make it for FP2
Will likely miss the HRT test session
Anyone know where i can get FP1 in Canada or do i have to wait for the bbc torrent?
That's right! Hopefully I will get home from work by then.
There'll likely be a link at the time
im doubting it would stream for me
There's usually a link some one will find for all
excellent
What a beautiful film
have it ready to watch but haven't got around to it yet
Oh dear. I just read something that's given me a very worried sick feeling. I hate that! Stupid semi-asleep email reading!
go to sleep alison!
Now I'm fretting :(
there is nothing you can do at 4am so go to sleep then fret during more sociable hours.
i can watch FP2 at 4am!!!
I need to write a statement for someone. They're going to be fired. They probably will be anyways no matter what I write. I'll probably feel better if I write a supportive statement though.
not a fun position to be in :(
as much as some australians might complain about races starting at 10/11pm at least we dont have to watch practice in single digit am hours!
FP1 12am
FP2 4am
ouch.
video recorder is epic!!!
FP1 3pm, FP2 7pm over here today, that is managable :-)
Here in the States, we get FP2, and airs live at 4a Mountain Time.........Thank goodness for DVR's
OMG, less than 2 hours to go!
right, work is over.time for donut shopping then i have 2 hours to work out optimal set up for ridiculous amounts of data. Is 3 computers overkill?
donut van is shut! Crisis!
i have gone to nandos instead and am now in a queue behind the entire female population of the usa
so excited but sooo tired. Not gonna make it.
FP1 Florida local: 2am :/
I'm gonna leave it on the right channel, all someone has to do is hit the red button.
I'm out too, I will wake up for FP2 at 4am :(
Just reading the news. Nothing like a good protest to start the season.
Warms my heart to see actual engineering cleverness being displayed. I always believed they should be allowed more creative aero restrictions.
Morning everyone :)
HI. I AM EXCITED.
let's see action!
am pumped for the start of the season. can anybody help me out with a site that has live streaming???
Do you have a donut?
no! The donut place was closed by the time I finished work :(
Usually it is formula1.com, but I can't get them up.
F1 2010 is GO GO GO
is there any way to listen to any commentary in the states?
Morning.
Hope you guys enjoy testing ;)
The Sugababes are on Breakfast TV
Not sure if they are changing their name to Candarel or not
did we know the new cossie site went live?
http://www.cosworthformula1.com/
(via @fofa)
It was due to go live yesterday. Had the countdown on a tab for ages and must have closed the tab during a tidy up
ooh nice and shiny :)
Unsurprsing stuff from Darren heath
Mercedes were a whole lot nicer when they were Brawn. Mechanics pushing snappers, MSC ranting in the car. So,so predictable.
amazing what a difference one man can make.
Such a pity
Will lose loads of fans this year
EJ in sensible clothes shocker! :P http://twitpic.com/182e15
Well, relatively
Burgundy trousers!
For EJ stanards :)
Wait till he breaks out the TV wardrobe
I knew there was a reason why I spent £60 on my glasses recently
Prescription sunglasses I hope ;)
:D
Lukeh was spot on with the Darth video.
It has to be Schumi - Ferrari are nice without him too...
Completely
Oh dear. We used a printer and everything. http://twitpic.com/182h19 Bad times indeed.
Oops. Wrong thread
Are they still legal on Rockall? ;)
I missed FP1, setting up for the wedding
Who's getting married?
It was a slow start tbh, Sutil surprised us all though
Sutil? How is Sutil fastest?
Fabulous way to catch up: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/03/12/bahrain-2010-free-practice-1-highlights/
My brother, and I am best slave
Whoa! Sidpodexcelence :D
Good stuff
It's a tough job that
via james allen, future race stewards:
Herbert, Frenzten and Wurz are lined up for the next few races. It will help with perceptions
Cool
Sutil? How is Sutil fastest? {Comment #345}
Because he's got a good car and I'm not 100% sure there was quite as much fuel in it as there was in, say, the Ferrari.
There's gonna be so much great info floating around this year
'tis OK. I think I should make it back for quali tomorrow
wurz will be very good.
Wow!!
overload.
Oh, was the Mclaren live thingy working?
F1
The new 'train your brain' experience
It worked so well it hypnotised mr c
Yay
Question.
Tyres are locked in Q3 for the race, but what happens if Q3 is wet and the race dry, or the other way around?
I don't think Force India were quite expecting that P1 from Sutil - how else can you explain why @clubforce decided the timing screen absolutely had to be photographed and displayed to us (when presumably we can see how they did using our usual information sources?)
Tyres are locked in Q3 for the race, but what happens if Q3 is wet and the race dry, or the other way around? {Comment #362}
Then the tyres are swapped as before and the qualifying tyres can stay in the garage all race for all the FIA cares.
Am guessing they can start on their choice
One computer screen is not going to be enough, is it?
No way
Ouch. Running Campos turned into a total nightmare says Adrian Campos.

Guess he underestimated the whole thing...
Bad for the hormones, I guess
Correct: http://www.autosport.com/features/article.php/id/2674 (paywall)
Of course if it's wet, all bets are off. A wet qualifying and/or a wet start means that the rule about using the same tyres does not apply. And more importantly, neither does the rule that says you must use two types of tyres.
Didn't you do that one already?
A good inside story of Bernie's takeover of the sport would be fun to read, but he's not a memoir kind of guy... and he'll never be pushed out, to have time to write {Comment #246}
Bernie's Game by Terry Lovell describes the takeover very well if you can put up with the sometimes-dry writing style. Mr E's cunning shines through brightly and he did contribute a little bit to the book.
This one was a replacement

I've never even heard of a race car novel ('cepting Saward's nonfiction tales) {Comment #240}
That's because nobody's written a good fictional race car novel yet...
I promise I will stop.

Morning
I got the last 10 mins. Bed was so comfy :)
If it were FP2 I would've been up. Then again it was very exciting to see Virgin and HRT on track.
Awesome choices

yup, will be a case of filtering to find what you want... which is better than not having anything :)

He's withdrawing it now

I am really mad at Schumacher for this almost-cold now, I can't stop sneezing.
Not that I disagree with you but how is it his fault?
well I didn't have it this morning, and now he has been back on track for the first race weekend since 2006 and now I have it. Totally his fault. Him or hedgehog.

we're trying out new ways to improve how we're covering the season, primarily to make it as easy for new followers and casual fans to keep up. it means there are more threads, but you can just pick the one's you're interested in / have time to read.
yell if there's anything to fix / improve / remove. same again tomorrow and sunday.
See ya Lukeh
I hope not!

if the strike happens will you get stuck in SA?
I hope a certain Finn is getting ranking points for this http://tweetphoto.com/14106889

he captured an almost smiling Kube AND diGrassi. It's win win win win win.
So much information - will we even be watching the action this year? ;)
I had enough trouble with that last year!
I have no idea how I am going to watch the coverage this year.
-Probably 2 video windows
-LCLT/Doohickey
-Tweetdeck?
-Live Timing?
I've got a monitor and a TV. TV will have BBC1, monitor will cram in what I can.
Last year:
- LCLT
- Tweetdeck
- Timing
- Notepad for blog notes (I'm not doing that this year)
I have a 24" monitor so it's a struggle to fit it in. Maybe I'll also use the Netbook this year?
Lunch time everyone,
How goes everyone?
Good. I had shellfish soup :) You?
Am having Chargrilled Chicken & Prawn Paella in a bit
It being Friday and being a good boy all week went for a burger
:)
Possibly, but I'm still going
I would if I had one!
I'd use a netbook or something for timing and the main computer for 'interaction'
This probably got mentioned earlier, but did anyone notice how violent Senna's car looked through the fast corners? It just looks like a horrible car to drive
Stuck in SA? You lucky...!
That's what I was thinking...
My boss probably won't see it like that but what the hell
Indeed it did
Still, looked better than USF1
Not much you can do if they go on strike.
Hope it works out for ya...
Cheers buddy
Will sit in a pub and wait it out I guess
Don't be "waiting" too long

Well, I'm supposed to fly back on the Saturday but don't start work until the Tuesday

I have no idea how I am going to watch the coverage this year. {Comment #415}
In my case, it's very similar to last year, except that some of the sites I use have changed. I'm currently doing live commenting for here, two fora and Twitter in practise sessions. I also have Autosport, my blog's "quick links panel" and at least one spare tab in the window covering the top 2/3 of the screen.
The other 1/3 is shared between BBC's live streaming and Live Timing... ...in theory.
For qualifying and the race, I'll be watching on the TV downstairs with my folder, book and note paper.
Does it say a lot for the quality of the racing that we are all commenting and taking notes (ie not watching the screen)?
I think it meant that in the era that just ended, there was time to kill while waiting for strategy to play out...
I am really excited to see how it changes the racing this year!
Me too, I think it'll be far more fluid. Eventually it'll settle down again but in the meantime we should have all of this year while they figure it out :)
Does it say a lot for the quality of the racing that we are all commenting and taking notes (ie not watching the screen)?
In my case, no. I'm the sort of person who found plenty of time in 1996 to read books during the race coverage (probably the only reason I didn't do it earlier was because in 1993-1995, I was still struggling to understand some of what was going on). I stated note-taking in 2001, initially for posterity and later to make sure I had my facts right when discussing races with people on the internet. Since 1996, there's only been one race where I haven't read a book or magazine in the coverage and since 2001, I've taken notes for every race I've watched.
It is unlikely that I will ever stop note-taking or reading during motorsport coverage because the reading/writing part of my brain demands something to do even when the listening/watching parts are engaged.
Watching the Classic GP's this week, I noted that pretty much all of them are included for race action, but not necessarily because of overtaking. Maybe stuff will happen this year? I mean, with slow cars, lapping traffic is going to be interesting and the strategy calls too...
I guess it has already been reported hear but James Allen's website has a very good article on the McLaren wing and the Ferrari tyres and the fact that the wheels cannot be copied and I doubt the wing can be either.
You bring up an interesting point - I have gotten so used to doing something while watching TV that I get bored if I just sit there watching now!
Lunch time everyone,
How goes everyone? {Comment #418}
Fine, thank you. I also had soup. Now trying to figure out how to write my Live Timing rant.
You bring up an interesting point - I have gotten so used to doing something while watching TV that I get bored if I just sit there watching now! {Comment #447}
Same here. Even when watching a Harry Potter DVD yesterday, I was reading a book called Microtrends (got through two long chapters before deciding that if I stayed up any longer I'd be washed out for practise).
71 people also appear to have chosen Lopez.... Maybe not the wisest choice! {Comment #169}
I was one of them until this morning (for the LCM Barato team; he was one of the cheapest drivers and I knew I'd be checking today so didn't worry). So it's no more than 70 now.
Greetings!
I missed FP2 as i was out at lunch at the yas hotel.
It might be slightly worrying that i now prefer YMC to F1 itself?
:P
Will try to catch a replay later if the bbc work out how to upload it!
That was an odd hour or two. Helloo again.
It would have been a good article had it come out after the barcelona test.
it seemed to me he just rehashed a load of stuff from scarbsf1 and autosport and put an LG logo on it so he gets paid :(
Just got in and the first place I checked for free practice times was sidepodcast. I really need to have it as my homepage. :)
Nice :)
Doritos iPad Parody
You mean it's not already?! For shame! :P
That looks yummy!
I want!
It isn't I've never changed the homepage :P
I just got very exited with an e-mail from Apple about the iPad... Seems to be US only for pre-orders :(
Import!
2 points;
1. Crofty and Samos-y seem to be working from the Silverstone toilets this weekend
2. Senna's car was SUCH a handful. I feel sorry for him.
I am actualy debating getting one, because we have staff flying over from the US most weeks it is pretty easy.
But is it a better option than the ipod touch? i am put off the touch becuse it seems to be mainy music focused, but this one might do more. especialy interested in it as an e-reader
Am i right in thinking it will play all existing iphone aps?
Just remember to get the Wifi one and not the 3G one.
It can only help.
I was also thinking it might be worth waiting for that version? I think its unlocked?
Just filled in my national student survey regarding my course. Ooh that felt really good.
oh really?
When they were talking about sending an iPad to NZ Leo mensioned that they'd have to send a Wifi one because the 3G one wouldnt work, but i may be wrong.
I haven't finished my 1st year yet, and I am looking forward to it already :D
Lots of underlining and capitals occured. In the negative bit.
S'all I'm saying.
Why? I lament with my iPod that I need wifi to access the net...
Maybe they use different 3g in NewZealand?
I know 3G phones bought in europe dont work on Australian 3G networks as it is a different system
That's because NZ is shockingly bad with cellphone and internet tech
ah i dont know then, best ask Andy/Alex/Mr C
Will do, heading out for the evening, hope they have the replays on iplayer when i get back!
FP2 is up
#doh!
A modern Dual Band phone that's not locked to a carrier will be fine
Me too
It got my hopes up
If you're talking about the iPad, I wouldn't be surprised if the US model was AT&T only, like the US iPhones
I think the 3G ipad will be AT&T only.
I heart Holly for called Jean Alesi a WDC :D
I just tasted our new cheese
#confidential
Ok then, I think I'm ready
Am off to the airport, via a couple of pick-ups
I'll be dipping in and out of the comments no doubt
Catch ya later folks
adios!
Have fun!
So if Mr and Mrs C aren't having all the Fridays off this year, who will man the FBFB?
Mr C is pretty awesome with coding, maybe it sorts out itself :D
Yep, the FBFB is alive!! ;)
I'm still not convinced that Mr C isn't just an awesome program that Christine has written...
hehe. well he has hands, we've seen those on the live streams ;)
We might not do them all yet, or maybe not in as much detail. It's undecided. There's the potential that we might be asking for volunteers at some point.
Having said all that, of course, the FBFB mana itself :)
quite possible :)
Afternoon all.
Not too happy with those BBC highlights, not only a chap with a dull voice, but no Sauber's either.
*mans
I was expecting qualifying and the races to be done, the fact your doing free practice is awesome :D
Should watch the whole thing. ;)
he seemed like he didnt want to be there!
No Kobayashi? He was mental!
Can't be bothered really.
I'm doing it just to see cars. I've missed them.
Aww I forgot about Kobayashi's overtaking :D
Me too.. but apparently not enough to get up early :)
#stillkickingself
All Quali and races will definitely be done. We wanted to test it today and I was excited to use it so I took a last minute day off :)
That sounds promising for the race.
Will I say it? Alright, I'm glad we got Kobayashi.
I would have been watching, but I happen to be teaching this morning. I think in future my laptop will go with me so I can keep up ;)
hehe well i very much appreciate it, there were pictures and facts i would have missed otherwise. :)
It was a nice surprise, so ta :)
I need to see this in action, can't wait for quali then
http://twitpic.com/184bf5
I am jealous!
Awww I didn't know you were a Nico fan :)
totally! :P
Boo why can't I subscribe to the Williams podcast? :(
For anyone that cares, if we were to put the 107% rule on FP2, only Senna (of the people who put in a time) would not be able to run, the 107% time is 2:03.49
For FP1, everyone who set a time would be through, the 107% time is 2:04.74
It's just been pointed out to me by someone on Twitter that if Senna was to be driving his car in the GP2 Asia qualifying that happened earlier....
GP2 Asia Qualifying
1 L. FILIPPI 2:07.087
2 C. PIC 2:07.178
3 O. TURVEY 2:07.237
Bruno's lap
2:06.968
So.
Very.
Close.
Still faster than Badoer.
;)
Who was in a Ferrari :P
:)
At least Senna can (right now) blame the car. Unless Chandhook gets out there tomorrow and runs faster.
Mum came in from work asking about Google street view, so I showed her it expeting it to blow her mind. Her response?

Who is Schumey blaming?....
Anybody know what's going on with fantasyracers.com freezing driver selections?
They specifically said that they would hold open the ability to change drivers until Saturday 0800 GMT and currently they're frozen per the usual Friday deadline.
The delayed fantasyracers.com deadline was for the Bahrain race only.
oooh, someone doesn't like me on twitter

I was right though :D
I remember that guy from another forum, quite a character.
Seems it. I love it when people question maths thats right, its amusing.
ah. that would be why he's taken it quite to heart..
He's a Brazilian....called Bruno....who lists both Sennas as idols on his website.
oops
So he's a Prost fan then?
If I remember quite right, not a big fan of Massa either.
Interesting snap from that posed photo earlier: http://en.espnf1.com/PICTURES/CMS/2000/2044.jpg

Mclaren actually stores a rabid Koala in there and if it sees human flesh it attacks.
I should imagine they're just testing things out, to me the one on the left is more quali-focused where-as the one on the bottom is race focused.

that is awesome, and its free. which makes it even better ;)
Hi. I had my evening interrupted by a door-to-door... who may have sold me Sky. I am so easily led. Still, at least I won't be on BT any more :)
Wow!
It seems to address the fundamental flaw of FORIX, which is poor navigation
hmmmm... we only get politicians and religious folk on our door step
Sky are alright. I'm doing fine so far anyway.
Oddly enough I then had an insurance man come while the Sky woman was here, he was looking for a previous tenant.

williams pulling no puches over schumi:
Nigel Mansell, dropped into the AT&T Williams hospitality area this morning, where he was greeted with open arms. All of our former drivers are welcome, so Alan, Keke, Nelson, Alain, Damon and Jacques: come on over.
followed by:
Michael Schumacher’s return to F1 got off to a slow start this morning when he turned up one hour late to a Mercedes press conference in the Bahraini capital of Manama. Word on the street was that his training session had over-run. Steady on, chap, you don’t want to overdo it at your age…
http://www.attwilliams.com/news/view/1250
:)
Not very professional to be that late
i'm loving the downfall of schumi, long may it continue :)
If Darren Heath is to be believed Michael also had a rant at something with his engineers...
Plus I read earlier the garages apparently got swapped for Michael but I've no idea if that's true
He requested it, but apparently it didn't happen
I just hope the car is not competitive and Rosberg is faster over the first few races. I think that would result in the neck problem forcing him to retire.
It would be even better if they had the best car and Rosberg was faster.
They mentioned that on the coverage.
He asked for it and was told it couldn't happen
do we know why he asked for it?
Exercising demands?
BBC said superstition. I assume he lokes to be nearer the top teams so he looks like the number one. He was told it couldn't happen because the garages are set up as mirror images so the mechanics on one car are doing things the opposite way round to the other crew
Probably to assert his authority, either over the team or over Rosberg
and he didn't think of this until today?
He asked for it a while ago
ahh, okay.
Does that work?
ooh, didn't try. just saw the 101 show was in the list and subscribed.
so they have x2 feeds that are out of date and x1 feed that doesn't work.
Next he will be requesting to swap his lap times with Nico for superstitious reasons
It's still early in the season :D
:D :D
:)
:)
:D
Vettels brake failiure today is interesting in light of their aggressive calliper positioning (F1Technical) which other teams have avoided due to cooling issues.
has newey gone to far? (again)
sounds the heat could be causing problems not spotted in wet testing?
It seems strange he decided to include it this season given all we have heard about increased strain on the brakes
I guess it depends on how the air feeds into the wheels.
presumably they're cooler this year due to lack of spinners?
They have to be
Will the fact the wheels are smaller put more strain on them?
obviously their is more weight from the fuel
It should make the airflow through the wheel for cooling better I would have thought. The extra fuel weight will make the brakes work a lot harder. The limit to braking power is the grip between the tyres and the road so a smaller contact patch means longer braking distances
'sup peoples. I've had a rather good day today. Can anybody guess why?
:D
Did you...umm...

Oops! that reminds me. I have to go to a wedding :D
did you have a go in an f1 simulator?!
Sidepodcast: Just like a personal diary
Hey TM
i'm just subediting christine's next blog post. i said to her "this is a really good piece, i like the way you write about f1."
her response, "that's because i learned from the master..." and looked in my direction. "really?" i thought, given i can't write for toffee.
"...ollie", she said!!
:D
Hehehehe
Ouch
:)
Good ol' Ollie.
Hey RG.
No no, just a slight at Mr C. ;)
Would love to. The closest I get to an F1 simulator is racing Grand Prix Legends on a frequent basis.
Next race I'm doing 75 laps of the old Silverstone (pre-Woodcote Chicane) in 1969 cars. I picked the BRM P126/P139. V12 goodness in a fat lump of a British machine. Love it! :D
oh my god what a long day. i've just got home from school. sooo tired. How is everyone? much happened today?
...and here is that post: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/03/12/the-stewarding-process-now-with-added-drivers/
What could possibly make you stay at school til THIS late?! Once 3:30 came around I was first out the blocks to cycle home quickest.
I wondered where you were :) not too bad thank you. How comes you was in so long?
school musical rehearsals... we had a great time, but i'm in much need of some dinner and a rest :)
Schumacher shouted at his engineers. Shouting at Shov is not cool
he shouted at Shov and Bono!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I forgot to polish my shoes and I have to go! eek!
And Mercedes have decided not to make their radio traffic public even though they have to. #notBrawnanymore
McLaren telemtry and radio info is fabulous
That's quite insane :)
Darren Heath said so and you have to believe him
You are a nutter.
Though saying that my morning looks pretty mad as well.
Heya lou
*sobs* i miss the Brawn days.. stupid Schumi, i didn't think it was possible for me to dislike him any more than i already did..
Darren's been tweeting?? awesome! stupid Schumi, Shov and Bono are awesome! Jenson never had a problem with them. *grumble*
Considering before and after pictures
:D
how can they get away with that?
Before: a drained, weary man.
After: who wants to deliver this man's eulogy?
Money. Pay "them" enough, they'll be allowed to.
He's using the force
(aka Jean)
that sounds about right
Oh and Lou you missed Kobayashi being completely mental/awesome again
I've no idea. I have visions of drive-thru penalties for breaching the tech regs but it won't happen.
THey rammed people off the road for years. They had a veto on other teams technology. This is nothing
ah good, i put him in my fantasy racers this week.
#planningtobeatmrcinbothleagues
#sorrymrc
This Kobayashi fella, sounds like he needs to be in a great team...
Yeah, I will admit, I'm starting to like him.
he has ruined my team!!!
There must be a clip of that on youtube.
I was just making one now :D
He overtook someone by leaving the track and passing them on the sand
What did Kamikaze Kobacrashy do?
do the bbc still do that red button service of practice catch up?
I told you last year Brawn was not one of the good guys
O.O
thats. just. mental.
i think i'll read through the comments now..
Surely with all this talent, he's certain to win the race on Sunday?
Oddest radio message of the season so far. McLaren to Jenson.
Press the big blue button
but... but... brawn gp.. it's awesome.. plus... he doesn't look like a bad guy
*blushes*
He looks like someone leaving court after being convicted
*ahem*
That or Heikki's bum being on fire
and then Crofty spent ages talking about what it was for!
I hate iFuseHosting. It's just so rubbish.
*censored for Christine's eyes
Surprisingly enough I have heard that radio message a few times before
:)
The cliffhanger was over when holly found out. Then again, she did call Jean Alesi a world champion in a very harsh way :D
why hidden from christine?
he handled it well, but that was awful for jean. and poor old surtees!
I loved the fact today's commentary included so many little humorous mistakes like this - you can tell it was the first day back at school! :D
I swore in the original tweet.
#sorrychristine
It was a bit like that. Crofty admitting that when the first car left the pits Maurice Hamilton and him couldn't figure out what it was
Yaaay Kobayashi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-885e81z5Vg
Blocked already
Well, the FIA are on the ball tonight :(
WOW
"This video contains content from Formula One Management who have blocked it on copyright grounds."
********s
wow - taken down already!!
Oh my lord! Thats a new unbeatable record. Usually it's a few days!
was it in 2nd practice?
Yes
Yeah, near the end of 2nd practise, about 80 minutes in.
maybe it's here... (uk viewers only) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8564769.stm
don't know if this has been posted yet - it's a message from sterling moss
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RH0vOW-md8U
they check it on upload.
Booo, I shoulda called it David Attenbrough explores the amazon or something.
oh no it isn't :( boo
The full FP2 is on the iPlayer :)
they check the frames and compare to a master copy FOM have uploaded.
can you keep it to 4 seconds in length?
really???they didn't do that last year :)
It's so we don't hear "Muttely, do something" or "drat and double drat"
they did? fp3 vanishes, doesn't it?
Do you know how many minutes was left?
10 minutes left in the session
they're back! http://twitpic.com/186bg9
evening
Watching it now. It's on the iplayer homepage
oh? they did? my memory is useless... i remember FP3 disappearing too..
It was quite late in the session but I don't know a time. Is it mentioned on Christine's highlights?
oooh!
"I'm afraid I can't let you do that, Fernando..."
12:19, so 11 left I'm guessing, but still can't find it.
12:19 - And Kobayashi took to the dust to get past Senna
yay!
It is between the 11 and 10 minutes left mark, I'm 99% sure of it
Oooh, I see it, (hearts) Kobayashi
Pretty much exactly with 11 minutes left.
Evening
So observant!
Evening. ;)
Hi Jackie
hi Jackie
Helllo
Are you all well?
I bought myself a new laptop today and the mouse button thing is driving me crackers
What's up with it?
To briefly come back to the master thing, Christine isn't the first. My bank have been calling me Master Oliver White since I opened an account with them c.1993. I'm 28 now, but they still insist on it. Who am I to complain! :D
http://prodrivel.com/images/temp/MasterOllie.jpg
Just sticky, wont change when I want it to
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/pitstoplight-jpg
Much better :)
That is a pain
hehe!
Looka like something from day of the triffids
Hehehe.
Is anyone else feeling a bit meh about the new season after today?
#
Nope, I'm super excited for it :D
Nope. I am really up for it
i was feeling like that yesterday, and then schumi did badly.
i couldn;t be happier right now.
No way, I'm pumped up and super-excited.
What you finding "meh" about it?
Yes!! I'm so glad its not just me!
so it's just me :( .. I seem to have gone into an apathetic phase
Like the t-shirt says: "Michael Who?"
I think I'm not looking forward to it because I have to get up early tomorrow and I'm probably going to miss the race on Sunday, after that I'll probably be fine.
Go watch the part where Senna goes out of the garage... eventually... after about 3 attempts to engage the clutch without antistall kicking in!
Just thought why do I like this
Quite enjoyed seeing the cars live in FP1, even if there is another controversy at the start of the season.
You will be fine once we get to quali and the race
*waves*
I'm not particularly excited about it either. Not sure why.
Sorry Jon, I typed that just as your comment came up
the moment you see the credits, and Jake, and DC in the paddock tomorrow i'm sure you'll feel a little more excited :)
We all feel like that from to time. With me it passes. I get back into writing and realise I do still enjoy it all.
Me neither, feel a bit out of the loop at the moment. No doubt I'll get back into things once the racing starts
Christ on a Harley, what time is that tomorrow?!
I think I should be heading to bed anyways...
My alarm for tomorrow morning is the Chain :D
Then I'll remember EJ will be there too and the excitement will drain away again.
I thought for the majority of last year. The reason I like it though is because of everyone here.
I thought *that
That's so endearing it's brought a tear to my tired eyes. :)
You're too kind. We know it's Delicious really. :P
ah yes. thats very true.
I've been feeling this way since christmas but I thought when I got to see the cars I'd go yay .. instead I went oh well
I really could have done without that this evening. Thanks Andy. :D
Still, Jake and the rest will make up for him, hopefully.
I think i've felt like that with Motorsport in general, when you study it as a degree, it can suck the fun out of it a little bit.
Right, I'm off to bed. Long day, longer weekend planned now I have the test of a Sidepodcast F1 calendar! Night guys.
Night night, sleep well
You should at least give it the whole weekend. But if you're not finding it fun anymore, you can't force it.
adios
I'm happy that the unretired German isn't having it all his own way.
Just a thought, but Teammates can't swap cars anymore can they?
Night mate.
night TM
here's an audio clip of that awkward Holly Samos moment :D
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/jeanalesi-mp3
oh no!
I never realised how lovely Jean Alesi is!
This may have been mentioned before, but Red Bull have Total sponsorship on the front wing endplates, and they're not Red. Come on Renault, take note.
Nooooooo. It's awful!
less money though.
Right, going to bed, trying hard to get up early tomorrow morning. So see yas and lotsa love.
Night RG
night RG
Night RG
Bye RG
night RG
Just finished FP2. 3 hours is way too much in one sitting, I'm bored!
So how many days on the countdown?
I know it was pointed out in the comments earlier but, as @smakaka just pointed out on Twitter, Seb really is picking up where Kimi left off...
Evening :)
evening gavin. Looks like i was right then!
hi Gavin
Hello
i can hardly keep my eyes open, time for sleep. night all xx
Yeah. Full credit to Eddie - I was very surprised the question was answered!
Night Lou
night lou
Night lou, see you in the morning for some F1 ;)
Hi
Yaaaarghhh... back again. Yep - I've no life outside either
;)
I feel like that and I don't know why.
Night.
An F1 Big Picture special: http://www.f1minute.com/2010/03/12/formula-1-is-back-and-2010-is-go/
he answered your question?
nice one and agreed
Yep - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8564781.stm
wow. that is cool!
I really like this one, great idea.
http://www.f1minute.com/2010/03/12/the-class-of-2010/
Night guys!
something for everyone i think :)
Oooh wow!!!
night
night Lukeh
I like 'Grumpy Old Men' :D
Oh Lukeh, just to prove there ARE Schumacher fans with a sense of humour, my colleague told me today he really liked your Darth video (and agrees with the idea too= ;)
was this name your idea pat?
http://www.f1minute.com/2010/03/12/glock-n-roll/
we couldn't remember.
I don't think so but I remember it from somewhere
ahh cool.
I feel sorry for Sauber!
I remember where it was now - it was the thread where we were suggesting car names for Virgin, but I can't find it now.
have we seen this fab pic from scarbs, detailing where the mclaren air flow likely runs?
http://scarbsf1.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/snorkel.jpg
First time I have seen it
i assumed that where it went, its soo clever
How'd they make it go up?
I hadn't
I think it is piped all the way to a duct on the engine cover.
erm...
#imnotscarbs
I can't imagine it turns at right angles like that. That would really kill the air speed
the force of the air at speed I suppose
I would have thought so too. It might be piped with less right angles than is shown.
Right, Mr C has started talking about air and wings and stalling and stuff, so it must be time for me to go to bed. Night all.
They'll have to remove it before the season is out probably.
Night Christine
Good night.
Night. I'm trying to find something interesting to do, or sleep.
how come?
night Christine
Last time I remember McLaren having something banned, was their 3rd pedal braking system in 1998. Even though it's not an external moveable aero device, it performs the same function as one.
It's just a hunch, nothing more. I think it's ingenious btw.
hmm... apparently I needed to ask permission from the landlord before agreeing to the Sky.. although 'such consent is not to be unreasonably withheld'.
too greedy again :) they are coming around my area with discounts on the web price so I got a good deal..
I agree. Someone will protest it. I can't imagine all this griping about it will just go away, but I thought that about the diffusers.
i dont think its anywhere near as extreme as the diffuser, but they'll always be something like this, every year
McLaren asked the FIA, they said it would be ok, so the team have done nothing wrong so far. But I reckon there will be a clarification, and it will have to be removed.
That's the point of F1 - we are supposed to see engineering and innovation, after all...
exactly.
I agree completely. Teams in the past gained advantages thanks to innovation. One reason why I enjoy F1.
totally, it would be like saying. Go, be innovative and creative.
oh no. not that creative
am curious who came up with the idea of homologating the cockpit.
if it was championed by mclaren via fota, i can see why other teams might be a bit angry.
That would be hilarious :)
brawn-esq
to a point, but also it would likely be bad news for fota.
Everyone say hi to @samsite007 on twitter, he's my colleague from Trinidad, I've convinced him to join Fantasy Racers (and he must have donated because he has 5 teams) and I got him listening to the Sidepodcasts ;)
