Hello to all! It was a busy day yesterday, wasn't it? All that Formula 1 news sneaking out as we were busy digesting the last lot! That is good for my daily post though, it means lots of lovely self promotion. Let's get on with that now:

  • FOTA met in Monaco yesterday and brought up the idea of the single launch event again. We've talked about this before, and we ranted a bit about this yesterday, but then we launched a poll. Tell us what you think - is the single launch event a good idea? Do you even care?
  • The FIA have proposed another potential change to the points system - no medals this time though, thankfully. This time the excuse is to account for the expanded grid, but it really seems like another attempt to make winning a more attractive option for drivers. Will they get away with it this time?
  • Pat came up with the Thursday Thoughts question yesterday - a great one about how F1 can broaden itself and it's coverage. He has a list of the participants on there, and it's not to late to leave your comments, although it's not Thursday anymore. If you want to host a question, why not leave your name on the wiki.

That's all for now, thank goodness it's Friday. How has your week been, and what are you planning for the weekend? Let us know and I'll see you in the comments.

I just had a piece of brown bread with Marmite and black pepper on it. Weird combination, yet surprisingly tasty.

For Saturday, Victoria is ideal for everyone entering London to meet at. I'm down the road from Giggles so will think of somewhere suitable to convene.

Just checking which station to leave from and it turns out they are more frequent now so I can use the nearer station. 20 min drive to the station, 2hr45m journey.

Interesting. Ben Bowlby is an original thinker. I wonder how F1 will respond especially as the IRL appear to be painting themselves green with this. If the car is done properly it will make F1 cars looked old fashioned overnight.

    Neg ratings are Boo!

    Pos ratings are ego boost

i think it'll work. couple of points...

    - will likely only be authenticated users that can rate

    - authenticated means you have a proper login, not just email and name

    - you'll still be able to comment anonymously, just not rate comments (and other stuff)

the problems we're trying to solve...

    - we can't watch all the comments, there are too many for two people

    - we need help flagging/moderating/highlighting

    - we need a means of remembering useful comments for future ref

    - we need a means of remembering funny comments for future ref

lastly, everything will be on a trial basis, but we really want to try it. feedback always welcomed. always.

agreed. it might be that it takes several flags to make a difference, or maybe it'll just produce a list to check in the morning.

something like the spam we had last night, i would assume everyone would jump on, because no-one wants to see that. same with publicising personal address.

also, something kinda new in doohickey. the title count now gets refreshed with a mouse scroll and not just a click. i have doohickey in a background window and as i scroll to read comments, the count vanishes.

no need to alt+tab to the window, or click directly.

something like that. it'll appear in the playground first:

incidentally, ratings didn't make the playground because the code managed to hit almost every page. it was quicker just to hold updates until they were done.

  • Amy11/12/2009 at 09:04

no, the milky bars were on him in 1996 sadly. He did just ask me who my favourite boy band was and when i said bsb he said "oh they had nick carter!" impressive.

Seriously? Are they that bad now?

The story is essentially this one: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80491

But done very badly. Or for them and their click rates, probably very well.

    The Beeb say:

Lopez is considered the favourite to take over Renault under the auspices of his Genii Capital investment company.

That's basically the only fact I can find in there.

  • Amy11/12/2009 at 09:31

i am not sure they would enjoy an f1 panel show. We are discussing my trip but when i say i am going to 3 races their eyes glaze over. Ps still no boybands, currently its placebo. 20 songs to go.

  • Christine11/12/2009 at 09:32

I would think of that more as an opinion than fact...

Okay. It is fact the guy said he was interested. What I mean is, the rest of the Beeb article says:

Detail beyond that is sketchy at the moment

Yet they still manage to fill 20 paragraphs full.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)11/12/2009 at 09:32

What about the apparent source that learned the info at the beginning of the story?

Actually, when you consider it, there are no facts in the BBC story. Does this mean that we cannot trust any apparent BBC sources?

  • Christine11/12/2009 at 09:33

Actually, when you consider it, there are no facts in the BBC story. Does this mean that we cannot trust any apparent BBC sources?

What it means is, take any BBC story with the same pinch of salt you do others. Trust news when there are several sources, and always remember that Benson likes GMM.

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)11/12/2009 at 09:34

Couple that with the quote you just mentioned about details being sketchy and you basically have an article of conjecture passed off as fact (like the Schumi to Merc story). I totally see it now - very sneaky by the BBC - it's almost a GMM worthy article!

The Renault option was certainly not safe when the drivers made their decisions. The interesting question has to be if Renault is not Renault after 2010 where is Alonso going to go when he falls out with Ferrari?

  • Journeyer11/12/2009 at 11:49

I don't think either option is safer than the other at the moment, is it?

you work with the milky bar kid??

he was in an ad as a kid. I asked him if the ad is on youtube. He said no.

That reminds me of the Simon Pegg and Steve Coogan sketch on what the Milky Bar Kid did when he grew up, but it's too naughty to post here!

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)11/12/2009 at 12:07

It looks like it is part guided bu and part normal bus so why not just make it normal bus the whole distance?

Why not just have a tram?

    Yay it's Friday!!!!!!!! Oh yes!!

Just been tearing my hair out (what's left of it) reading the discussion on Planet-F1.

The fanboys are basically claiming the atutosport greatest driver ever poll conducted amongst F1 drivers is rubbish and their opinion is more valid...

    I despair!!

    Anyway it's Friday! whoop whoop

  • RCC11/12/2009 at 12:19

    On the points system

    I'm totally open-minded

Happy to see what happens over a season or two

Although I can see it may get hard to instantly add up in yr head!!

  • Steven Roy11/12/2009 at 12:20

The fanboys are basically claiming the atutosport greatest driver ever poll conducted amongst F1 drivers is rubbish and their opinion is more valid...

Stupid people. They are right about the first part though. The AUTOSPORT pole is rubbish. How can anyone vote DeCesaris or Liuzzi or Irvine or half the drivers listed in their top ten all time?

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)11/12/2009 at 12:20

You guys just HAVE to read this Amazon review of an overpriced audio cable!

it's not the best poll out there (as i mentioned yesterday - I see more Reject names than Legend/Champion names in the voter list).

but i'm not sure a fanboi's list would be that much better...

My arguement is at least the people voting drove the cars

Not sat typing on a keyboard never goign near a track!!

Luizzi is probably there on the strength of his other formula results etc...That bloke is mightly quick..he don't wear gold trainers for nothing lol

Someone voted him as one of their top ten drivers all time. Just think about that. I doubt anyone would vote him in their top ten current drivers and some moron has him in their top ten ever. I blame Irvine. It's all his fault

  • RCC11/12/2009 at 12:27

Why's that hard to imagine Luizzi being a top driver?

Remember the actual drivers can spot a good driver even in a rubbish car.....we just tend to remember results and if you aint P1 in F1 ry a nobody etc

I know Steven you have a good knowledge etc so i'm hoping you see my point!!

Yes but in the top 10 greatest drivers ever? No way!

  • Steven Roy11/12/2009 at 12:32

Why's that hard to imagine Luizzi being a top driver?

He has achieved nothing. The people who had access to his data and had a team mate to compare him again have not exactly rushed to give him a drive.

There are great drivers who have never had a proper break like McNish, Thackwell and Byrne who in my opinion are far better than Liuzzi but there is no way someone can be rated in the top ten all time without some seriously good erformances in F1 and Liuzzi and the guys I have listed don't have those. Remember Senna did a season of FF2000 so that he didn't have to go against Byrne in F3 and Byrn's McLaren test performacne is legendary. The guy was that good but there is no way he can be considered for the top ten all time as he did nothing in F1.

Jan Magnussen doesn't make the list and his performances in F3 were miles ahead of anything Liuzzi has done.

  • Journeyer11/12/2009 at 12:32

How can Steven be wrong when he uses a Kiwi and a Dane in an argument? That combination is unbeatable!!!

  • Steven Roy11/12/2009 at 12:34

the site is generally fine, just commenting that seems to have gone wonky.

may simply be too many comments. might need a bigger boat.

could be that further optimisation is in order.

  • Alex Andronov11/12/2009 at 12:41

I was just on the phone to a colleague of mine from Scotland who started talking about how happy he was that Paul di Resta was now in Formula 1 but said it was a shame he hadn't been given a proper drive up at the front considering, you have to remember, that he thrashed Vettel in GP2. I said I know it's true, and then he asked, and have you seen that simply atrocious Autosport survey - surely it should be Jim Clarke - I mean that's obvious. I mean you'll probably have to put Schumacher up there somewhere even though he's a lying cheating ba****d but Jim Clarke has to be on top.

I didn't realise I worked with Steven. I wish I could have recorded it! It was incredible.

    this is news to me:

Ninth and 10th now have a value which was not previously the case, although under the Concorde Agreement the points were not really the key issue as the finishing positions outside the top 10 still counted towards the prize money earned.

has no idea. i thought money was based on the constructors championship?

  • Steven Roy11/12/2009 at 14:48

has no idea. i thought money was based on the constructors championship?

I think it is the same as the tie breaker. If two teams hav equal points the on with the most wins wins. If they have equal numbers of wins the team with the mst second places wins etc. So if everything is equal it could be the team with the most 23rd places wins.

Joe agrees with the communal launch. I think for the press, this may be a good thing, because they get more bang for their buck - it certainly helps Joe with costs.

  • Amy11/12/2009 at 15:13

Here is some news about F1 on TV in Australia that I missed.

"the new deal also covers all online, mobile and IPTV rights." makes me hope I might get to see practice online because "All Formula 1 races throughout the season will be broadcast live on ONE with delayed coverage on TEN. Qualifying sessions will also be seen on ONE." tells me it won't be on TV.

I don't hold my breath though. I don't think we have any live online shows at all in this country.

Consider this as your health warning. :)

    Schumacher return looking increasingly likely

My information is increasingly that Schumacher's return as Nico Rosberg's team-mate is looking like a done deal... I received cast-iron information from a reliable source this morning about the plans of those potentially affected by Schumacher's decision that, shall we say, points very strongly to him driving for Mercedes in 2010. (If that sounds vague, I'm sorry, but I was told in confidence and cannot reveal any more).

It also includes what happened when he asked Sabine Kehm about it.

  • Amy11/12/2009 at 15:26

I really can't see that car being up to much.... That said, there's probably no-one better qualified to improve it.

Something has finally made me write a post on SofaF1!!!! Incredible: http://www.sofaf1.com/2009/12/whats-point.html

I really can't see that car being up to much.... That said, there's probably no-one better qualified to improve it.

I saw another article that said he'd be an assistant to Ross rather than a race driver. And I still don't see why LDM would let him go for the reasons JA brought up.

  • Alison11/12/2009 at 15:29

I saw another article that said he'd be an assistant to Ross rather than a race driver. And I still don't see why LDM would let him go for the reasons JA brought up.

I always forget those two worked together for so long. I wonder why Ross' reputation was never badly tainted by the association.

  • Journeyer11/12/2009 at 15:30

I always forget those two worked together for so long. I wonder why Ross' reputation was never badly tainted by the association.

Good point. I really don't know. And a lot of whatever taint there might've been was wiped away with last season's Lazarus job.

  • Amy11/12/2009 at 15:32

Ross is the Hero of us All.

Although I do have to admit, he was right with Button to McLaren.

Good point. I really don't know. And a lot of whatever taint there might've been was wiped away with last season's Lazarus job.

It seems mad to me. In the same way that Flavio had to have a hand in whatever Piquet was up to, I can't imagine Shumi's actions were allowed to slip past Ross Brawn. He's not a stupid man.

  • Christine11/12/2009 at 15:36

Although I do have to admit, he was right with Button to McLaren.

But you either need to be confident enough that you can say what you're writing without getting into trouble, or you should not say anything at all.

Schumacher has only just signed a three year extension to his Ferrari contract. Why would they let him go to a comptitor when they could stick him on gardening leave until the end of 2012?

  • Alex Andronov11/12/2009 at 15:38

Well the common consent is that most people blame Flav and say it's sad that Pat Symonds was involved. We know that Todt was the main driver of the 1 principal driver at Ferrari and think that Ross was kind of roped in.

I'm not saying this is right, but I think it's a similar situation and certainly a similar view.

  • Alison11/12/2009 at 15:38

But you either need to be confident enough that you can say what you're writing without getting into trouble, or you should not say anything at all.

There was also no need to write the apologetic bit. If you want to leave it vague then do so and let people make up their own minds rather than pretend it's vague because it's high-end info....

  • Journeyer11/12/2009 at 15:40

Schumacher has only just signed a three year extension to his Ferrari contract. Why would they let him go to a comptitor when they could stick him on gardening leave until the end of 2012?

Some people are saying that while terms have been agreed, nothing's been signed yet. If that's true (and I'm not 100% sure it is), he is still a free agent, and Ferrari can't do anything about it.

  • Journeyer11/12/2009 at 15:40

It is. People have just forgotten over the last year. Everything Schumacher did Brawn was in his ear. All the illegal bits on the car Brawn knew about and signed off. Brawn is as big a cheat as Schumacher

Ross was involved in the Benetton cheating with Schumacher before Todt and Schmacher got together. Brawn is guilty

    I know people will steal anything but this is ridiculous {Comment #375}

A couple of weeks ago, someone stole an entire café, and today is Ireland's 18th ATM theft (translation: theft of ATM plus large section of wall) this year. Thieves are getting ever-stranger...

  • Alianora La Canta11/12/2009 at 15:47

    Surely if there are tracks there is going to be no other traffic anyway so the sign is redundant {Comment #376}

Not if it's done like the Sheffield tram system - parts of their tram routes are shared by normal road traffic (with the trams normally getting priority at the city's numerous traffic lights).

    am wondering if it's the code to the f1 hatch? {Comment #383}

No, it's the F1 Commision multiplying stuff by 2.5 in the attempt to get points down to 10th without the system getting completely ridiculous.

  • Journeyer11/12/2009 at 15:53

No, it's the F1 Commision multiplying stuff by 2.5 in the attempt to get points down to 10th without the system getting completely ridiculous.

    I know 1 x 2.5 = 2.5 rounded up to 3.

    I know 2 x 2.5 = 5

But the gap between 7th and 8th is just wrong...

  • Alianora La Canta11/12/2009 at 15:55

    Just been tearing my hair out (what's left of it) reading the discussion on Planet-F1. {Comment #394}

The fanboys are basically claiming the atutosport greatest driver ever poll conducted amongst F1 drivers is rubbish and their opinion is more valid...

Planet-F1, in my opinion, is a good place to go for a laugh. It's not a good place to go for any form of serious information (or even informed opinions...). Therefore it doesn't surprise me that any poll they conduct on the matter of "Greatest Ever Drivers" makes even less sense than the usual standard of lists on the topic...

  • Journeyer11/12/2009 at 15:59

Is it just me, or is the [1 new] in the title bar taking a lot longer to disappear now once it used to? Kinda annoys me that it's still there even after I've checked new comments.

I don't see how - 1st-4th is in the same scale. 4th has some reason to complain about diminshment, but the rest have only had minor proportional changes...

even after i switch to SPC as the active tab and the new comments show up, it doesn't go away right away. even if i've already switched to view another tab it still hasn't gone away. takes as long as 15-20 seconds after i've seen the new comments before it goes away.

  • Alianora La Canta11/12/2009 at 16:15

    this is news to me:

Ninth and 10th now have a value which was not previously the case, although under the Concorde Agreement the points were not really the key issue as the finishing positions outside the top 10 still counted towards the prize money earned.

has no idea. i thought money was based on the constructors championship?

Partly. The bulk of money was handed out on the basis of constructors championship, but I believe there is a document of a leaked Concorde Agreement deep in the Sidepodcast drop that said that a proportion was given out for position in qualifying and specific points in the race. Any position - even 20th - had a value (just not a very big one).

  • Jon Waldock11/12/2009 at 16:26

Mr Hindhaugh made a good point about this whole thing...

If Schumacher goes to Mercedes then one of the following will happen....

    a) He will go and do amazingly and everyone will say "Wow look, isnt Schumacher amazing"

    or

    b) He will go and do averagely and everyone will say "Well it's just the team who haven't given him a good enough car"

It's a lose lose for Mercedes

  • lou11/12/2009 at 16:26

Not sure. As I understand it Schumacher has signed an extension to his Ferrari contract and can't go anywhere unless Ferrari agree and there is no reason they should.

:) okay this will keep me happy for the rest of the evening. as will Mark Webber on a Question of Sport (i think he's on it this week?), and Jenson on Jonathan Ross :) is the FIA Gala tonight?

  • me11/12/2009 at 16:31

It's a lose lose for Mercedes

but, you can't launch the new mercedes team with nick and nico.

  • Jon Waldock11/12/2009 at 16:32

but, you can't launch the new mercedes team with nick and nico.

    also true

  • Alison11/12/2009 at 16:32

As I try and make my 40 hours annual leave stretch to cover the time I need off for the GP, for my parents visit to Melbourne and for my 5 week holiday, I say amen.

What?? 40 hours. Blimey, I'm not moving to Australia anytime soon, that's practically slave labour....

  • Journeyer11/12/2009 at 16:32

Rumour has it that he has not actually signed the contract - but it could also be people who are so desperate to see him return - I am desperate not to see him return.

You and me both. He has too much to lose, and too little to gain. Especially if they're just giving him the same offer they gave Button.

  • Journeyer11/12/2009 at 16:32

It's a lose lose for Mercedes

But Schumi would be selling Mercedes road cars rather than Ferrari road cars. That's a HUGE win for them.

  • Journeyer11/12/2009 at 16:33

:) okay this will keep me happy for the rest of the evening. as will Mark Webber on a Question of Sport (i think he's on it this week?), and Jenson on Jonathan Ross :) is the FIA Gala tonight?

as a matter of fact, yes!

am greatly anticipating this year's season edit. I really hope it leaks onto YT by tomorrow.

  • Journeyer11/12/2009 at 16:34

but, you can't launch the new mercedes team with nick and nico.

which is why i'm thinking if those merc stories have any substance, it'll be with schumi as an advisor rather than a driver.

  • Amy11/12/2009 at 16:34

What?? 40 hours. Blimey, I'm not moving to Australia anytime soon, that's practically slave labour....

we get 4 weeks a year but I only have one weeks worth at the moment. It seems to be building up again much slower than I will be using it!

Just listened to the Motor Sport podcast and they insist Ant will be the second driver. Sounds like it was recorded very recently

  • Jon Waldock11/12/2009 at 16:35

    hmmm

That would be great news, I think. Although that might be even less inspiring than Nick Heidfeld.

Will listen to that podcast now.

  • Steven Roy11/12/2009 at 16:36

How did you get that in ten seconds vefore my comment?

No offence, but Ant will be the equivelant of Heikki.

I don't think he is that good

I was going to write 'if not worse', but I didn't want to be too harsh.

my problem is last summer when we were really quiet at work I kept going home early and using 2-3 hours of leave each day. It was disappearing slowly and it didn't seem painful at the time but now I want it back!

  • lou11/12/2009 at 16:39

i'm psychic... or ever so slightly hyper... this is what happens when i have my hair cut, it makes me happy.

Im the opposite, i get out the hair dressers liking my hair, but by the time i get home i miss having my hair longer.

    im wierd like that

Woah, that's crazy talk! They made you use leave to go home early? Is that just because you wanted to maintain your salary? They should start using flexitime...

  • lou11/12/2009 at 16:40

No offence, but Ant will be the equivelant of Heikki.

    don't care... Ant is awesome.

Woah, that's crazy talk! They made you use leave to go home early? Is that just because you wanted to maintain your salary? They should start using flexitime...

our options are stay at work, go home and take leave, or go home and not get paid for it. We've got the worst contracts in the world and they fire anyone who tries to start a union. I really need to find that new job I was talking about more than a year ago :D

  • lou11/12/2009 at 16:43

Is this the same way I think Tonio is awesome?

hehe yes only Ant is better than Tonio ;) i think it's probably because he like Jenson has been at the team for a veeerrry long time, plus he drove the Brawn when i saw it, his commentary is awesome :D

  • Alison11/12/2009 at 16:43

Flexitime makes my life bearable.... Given those options though, I'd probably stay at work. I'm obsessed with earning up my holiday allowance.

  • RG11/12/2009 at 16:43

    And 'T 'Imo?

    Its Timo.

Timo is super duper awesomely marvellously brilliantly magnificant and quick.

  • RG11/12/2009 at 16:43

    You sure about that? ;)

  • lou11/12/2009 at 16:45

yep :D trust me.. people thought Jenson wasn't ever going to win a race again but i knew he would.. Ant will get there ;) .....maybe..

  • RG11/12/2009 at 16:46

yep :D trust me.. people thought Jenson wasn't ever going to win a race again but i knew he would.. Ant will get there ;) .....maybe..

I have more faith with Tonio to get a car around the track quicker than Ant. I'd pick both for my team (of course with Timo as #1) but Ant would be much more suited as a test driver, he's that kinda driver.

  • Alex Andronov11/12/2009 at 16:46

Lucas di Grassi to Virgin? http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKGEE5BA20Z20091211

I am now, last summer I was really hating the place and wanted to be out of there. Now I am working 13 hour days instead :D

Yeah. The way my contract works makes it compulsive though. I get my regular 5 weeks holiday unaffected by anything. I then have to work at least 40 hours a week. Any hours worked in excess of 45 are credited to my flexitime account which lets me take extra days holiday whenever I've saved enough. It means I can't really increase my salary at all but encourages you to take breaks when you've been working hard which I like.

  • lou11/12/2009 at 16:47

Brazilian media have been reporting it for 3 hours or so now. If it's on Reuters, it's probably as good as true. No real surprise, though...

  • Rich11/12/2009 at 17:02

    don't care... Ant is awesome.

But he simply does not have the experience of Nick - who is really good at car development as well. I just do not see Ant being similarly fast to Kubica, but Nick is equally fast with pole (and a better overtaker he he).

  • Journeyer11/12/2009 at 17:05

Ahhh... Mr C, I think I now the problem for FF now.

    1. New comment loads. Comment bracket appears

    2. I switch to SPC as active tab and check new comments. Comment bracket stays.

    3. I use other tabs. Comment bracket stays.

    4. I go back to SPC as active tab again. Comment bracket goes away.

I hope that made sense. :)

That's what's happening I think and people are noticing it after some time because when you are polling for comments it is dissapearing if the page has focus.

There is so much money to be made from F1 and because Bernie and his boy have ridden roughshod over people for so long no-one is looking at the opportunities.

am trying to think what i'd pay. the average person would do this once a year. but may be shelling out for GP tickets around the same period.

    does £50 seem reasonable?

A lot of people seemed to think that what I paid for Stirling Moss and Murray was a lot (I think it was £90). And that was separate to the Grand Prix. But they are more of a draw I suppose. That did include champagne + wine + a three course meal + in a very expensive part of london.

I would think £20 would be closer as people will be paying for drinks as well. I am sure Joe could agree a percentage of the drinks spend with the hostelry hosting and will flog books etc to bump up his income.

  • me11/12/2009 at 18:11

I think it depends on what the deal includes. Does Joe want to be involved in the hassle of organising an event with food and drink or does he just want to turn up and do his dog and pony show then leave without having to deal with people complaining about the food etc?

  • Alex Andronov11/12/2009 at 18:13

It was sold out. About 200 people I think. They had to add extra tables to the room because demand was so high!

if i were joe, i'd want to do as little as possible that didn't involve talking about f1.

  • Alex Andronov11/12/2009 at 18:15

I don't know how easy it would be to organise but pub quizes often pay the quiz master out of the take and don't require an entry fee. Because of course they bring people in on non-busy nights.

However Joe would be doing this when there are lots of people in town so booking a venue may be tricky.

  • Alex Andronov11/12/2009 at 18:16

That's why I suggested the lower fee. 50 people at £20 a head is £1000 for very little effort. Do that at ten events and you have a very nice £10k with zero cost.

  • me11/12/2009 at 18:19

  • lou11/12/2009 at 18:19

I forgot to mention earlier, but while i was out in town today i noticed two things...

The 1st was a magazine... 12 months ago no one knew who he was, now he has his own magazine thing???

The 2nd... well i noticed that we may have a huge new shop coming to our town centre soon that may please Lukeh

  • Steven Roy11/12/2009 at 18:19

However Joe would be doing this when there are lots of people in town so booking a venue may be tricky.

There are bound to be hotels which are full of race fans which normally have business guests that and as a result they will have meeting rooms that will not be used during race weekends.

    I have commented.

awaiting moderation, but here's what i put:

how much would i pay? it's the kind of thing you'd only get to do once a year, and £25 sounds like a familiar figure. £25 to see GP+ come to life? bargain.

Aha. That's handy... Phew. Victoria is V expensive for wine and the corner shop between the house and the station is fine for beer but not really for wine. I didn't want you walking all over the place!

I'm planning on getting wine and beer, but thinking this could be overkill. The problem is I don't know what I want to drink until I have to make a decision, I can't plan it :-)

Dad offered a bottle of red vodka but I've turned it down... I can always pick it up in the morning if anyone wants it..

There seems to be a plethora of news today... with Joe and Stuarts Blogging output there is barely time to read any other news!

But there was a motorsport tragedy here today, at the class 1 powerboat Grand Prix. One of the boats from the dubai victory team flipped and unfortunately both of the crew died. http://gulfnews.com/sport/sailing/twin-deaths-cast-gloom-over-uae-powerboat-fraternity-1.552337

Gosh, I didn't realise they still do the "Except for viewers in Scotland". WHen I was a kid I always thought it was unfair on the Scots.

Gosh, I didn't realise they still do the "Except for viewers in Scotland". WHen I was a kid I always thought it was unfair on the Scots.

I think N. Ireland gets that too

With digital TV, more people are watching Southern versions of BBC and ITV

  • Lukeh11/12/2009 at 22:50

I think Wossy should just get Muse back from 2 weeks ago and combine them with Jenson

To add more reason to this plan, they did that race too and Matt won ,hey could do a big race between Matt and Jenson. BBC is missing out damnit.

  • Lukeh11/12/2009 at 22:50

Gosh, I didn't realise they still do the "Except for viewers in Scotland". WHen I was a kid I always thought it was unfair on the Scots.

That used to annoy me because they always said except for viewers in Scotland who have their own program. It always bugged me that they played the announcement here but couldn't be bothered to tell me what I was going to see.

  • Bassano11/12/2009 at 22:51

We get it in Wales too

    Didn't know that

  • Pat W11/12/2009 at 22:54

With digital TV, more people are watching Southern versions of BBC and ITV

Worse with the ITV franchise because STV isn't part of ITV Plc, and they've decided to branch out..

So, how long do we reckon it's gonna be before they get Lewis on? Or are McLaren just that strict with their drivers?

they aren't that strict. Lewis was on top gear. But i should think Jenson was only on the show because a) he is the new world champion and the brawn story grabs headlines, and b) SPOTY. Lewis wont grab so many headlines...I want Top Gear to get Jenson back on, only cause last time Jenson was on TG he hadn't even won a race.

  • emily11/12/2009 at 23:17

goooooood night everybody, see you at the station tomorrow lou :)

Is Jenson the only one doing any PR at all pre-SPOTY? He could've been on the show any week since he won the title..

Funnily enough... my good friend Klumzy Tung has a new record out right now (hip hop I guess)... I just tweeted about it (it's feat another mate Beardyman).

Of course as is usual with this kind of music there is some bad language in here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8hP-cPRSbw

Hey Alex, did you complete your iPhone tests? I've just discovered that Qik still doesn't seem to do live streaming.

Yeah I discovered that too... I did complete it. uStream seems very live even over 3G. Discovered earlier that uStream is using a private API which is against the rules. So I wonder if it will get blocked.

Interesting. What about on Kat's iPhone 3G? Also, most relevant websites are mentioning that Apple seems to be relenting over the use of private APIs in Apps, at least for the moment.

Interesting. What about on Kat's iPhone 3G? Also, most relevant websites are mentioning that Apple seems to be relenting over the use of private APIs in Apps, at least for the moment.

    I haven't check.. I forgot about that. I'll see in a sec.

I don't know about Chris and Pat though natch. We are in for the day I think. So yeah just send a text or whatever if you're popping over.

Thanks for the offer of prep help - it is appreciated... But we'll be fine :)

  • me11/12/2009 at 23:44

    really?

  • Pat W11/12/2009 at 23:44

Funnily enough... my good friend Klumzy Tung has a new record out right now (hip hop I guess)... I just tweeted about it (it's feat another mate Beardyman).

Klumzy Tung is a great name :-)

  • Bassano11/12/2009 at 23:44

Wait until June, if you do

    Better battery life, memory, etc

    Possible RFID by then

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)11/12/2009 at 23:44

Klumzy Tung is a great name :-)

    Is he Ho-Ping's bro?

    really?

Especially if you're gonna be on a 2 year contract

Might as well get the best you can

  • Scott Woodwiss11/12/2009 at 23:45

    Is he Ho-Ping's bro?

Shouldn't his name be Klum-Zee Tung in that instance?

Probably. Commented on your blog, sir!

  • me11/12/2009 at 23:46

    ahh maybe.

thinking a backup live stream could be useful during live shows for when the stream dies. also, multicam.

  • Bassano11/12/2009 at 23:46

Will it be at a price a mere mortal can afford too?

    That's relative, who knows

£35 pm tariff, £200 ish up front

  • Scott Woodwiss11/12/2009 at 23:46

Probably. Commented on your blog, sir!

    Ah, thank you sir.

  • Bassano11/12/2009 at 23:47

Payments with your phone, at a swipe

    Probably won't happen though

  • Alex Andronov11/12/2009 at 23:47

Klumzy Tung is a great name :-)

Obviously he has his mother to thank for that.

I was wondering about getting a small amount of beer too.

You can get them in Tesco from Monday. Someone has done some sums (try saying that out loud) and worked out that he'd be paying Tesco between £40 and £44 for what he currently pays O2 £45 a month for.

Sign up for 24 months at £60 per month and get a free 16GB 3GS. Plus triple Clubcard points.

  • Pat W11/12/2009 at 23:48

I think the solution is to get someone's cast off they no longer want.

    That's a hefty tariff

Surely it's more economical to pay up front

Though they do offer a 12 month contract, the only one in the UK, I think

See, my phone costs me about DKK100 per month to run (on a plan). The cheapest iPhone plan is about DKK6000 for 6 months - and I don't use a phone that much!
