It's not been long since the French Open but it's time for a complete change of pace now. Players have had a couple of weeks to get practice on the grass courts before the main event - the Wimbledon Championship 2014. Defending champion Andy Murray comes in with all the pressure on his shoulders, but faces some stiff competition. Last year's winner Marion Bartoli has retired from the sport, leaving the women's side of the draw wide open. Smart money would be on Serena Williams for victory but it's not all been going her way of late. Sit back, dish out those strawberries and settle in for two weeks of British summertime tennis.

  • Christine23/06/2014 at 17:44

Mm, love having the green and purple on TV of an evening.

  • Christine23/06/2014 at 17:59

BBC showing Dan Evans, who apparently wants to step out of Murray's shadow. Not like this he won't!

  • Mr C23/06/2014 at 18:28

    oh.my.god.

just discovered the 12 channels of wimbledon streaming.

    twelve live matches!!

  • Christine23/06/2014 at 18:32

    twelve live matches!!

We have switched to Errani and her ridonkulous serve.

  • Christine23/06/2014 at 18:35

Errani shouting about a call. No hawk eye on the outside courts. She's quite scary.

  • Christine23/06/2014 at 18:45

    She's still shouting. Cowering now.

  • lou23/06/2014 at 18:56

  • lou23/06/2014 at 18:57

well, football is still on ;)

    Not in my house!!!!

  • Mr C23/06/2014 at 18:57

Amazing if you like football. ;)

Wimples is one of the highlights of my sporting year :)

  • lou23/06/2014 at 19:03

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!! Match suspended due to rain when Tsonga was just about to serve for the match! :(

  • Mr C23/06/2014 at 19:04

debate whether this match will continue either.

  • lou23/06/2014 at 19:05

debate whether this match will continue either.

Melzer is unwell and has been running off the court every so often, he's been trying to get the match called due to bad light for about 20mins... He'll be happy about this delay.

  • Mr C23/06/2014 at 19:05

    no continue.

  • lou23/06/2014 at 19:06

    no continue.

Delayed till tomorrow, or just suspended?

  • Christine23/06/2014 at 19:06

Groundspeople clearly out of practice pulling the covers on. It's a complete shambles on whatever lowly court we were watching.

Oh dear! They were pulled out on court 1 before most people noticed it was raining!

  • Christine23/06/2014 at 19:07

    So... twelve channels of covers?

  • Mr C23/06/2014 at 19:08

    So... twelve channels of covers?

oh noes! they have nothing else.

  • Mr C23/06/2014 at 19:11

wait, i can rewind all the channels.

    holy....

  • Mr C23/06/2014 at 19:12

watching a rewound radwanska match. love technology.

  • lou23/06/2014 at 19:12

    holy....

    Isn't tennis awesome ;)

  • Mr C23/06/2014 at 19:15

it is. i've watched more tennis than any other sport this year.

  • lou23/06/2014 at 19:16

  • Mr C23/06/2014 at 19:20

i think though baseball may be permanently on our telly for the foreseeable.

  • Christine23/06/2014 at 19:42

Replay of Radwanska match being called off. Failures on their court covering too. I'd say more practice required, but we don't really want that!

  • Pat W23/06/2014 at 19:44

Only lurking in the tennis area but the idea of rain elsewhere in Southern England baffles me, hardly seen a cloud all day down here!

  • Christine24/06/2014 at 10:49

Keeping an eye on Wawrinka and Hewitt live scores. Plus Radwanska gets to finish her match later.

  • Christine24/06/2014 at 12:25

Ms Lisicki on Centre Court. Hope it doesn't thunder!

  • john24/06/2014 at 12:42

currently watching lleyton up a break after losing the second 16-14 in a tie break. might be his last wimbledon.

  • Christine24/06/2014 at 13:25

    Easy for Radwanska.

  • Christine24/06/2014 at 15:19

The other Radwanska about to start now.

  • Christine24/06/2014 at 16:22

Tuned in now, Nadal serving for the match.

  • Christine24/06/2014 at 16:43

Nadal got it. Think Serena is up next.

  • Christine25/06/2014 at 11:34

Li Na one set up in her second round match. Lots and lots of doubles going on too.

  • Christine25/06/2014 at 21:11

Not done very well on the tennis today, will attempt to do better tomorrow.

  • Christine26/06/2014 at 09:47

Did Tsonga's match really get called off at 2 sets each, 9 all in the fifth? That's gonna come down to who got out of bed on the right side today!

Lots of rain forecast for the next couple of days, fingers crossed it doesn't reach Wimbledon.

  • Christine26/06/2014 at 13:28

Nadal does not like to win first sets recently.

  • john26/06/2014 at 13:54

just got back from the thursday night division 7 basketball, shoddy standard there, but a cracking match between kyrgios and gasquet 4-3 in the fifth

  • john26/06/2014 at 14:03

kyrgios saves 3 match points and from 0-40 gets it back to 5-5 in the 5th, steps up under extreme pressure.

  • john26/06/2014 at 14:23

...saved 7 match points, now at 7-7

  • john26/06/2014 at 14:33

saved 9 match points now, 8-8

  • john26/06/2014 at 14:36

and on the second break point gets the break and is serving for the match....

  • john26/06/2014 at 14:39

wohoo, saves 9 match points, and knocks the 13th seed out 10-8 in the 5th.

  • Christine26/06/2014 at 17:14

Disappointed Heather Watson is out already, but Kerber was a pretty big ask.

  • Christine26/06/2014 at 17:38

    Aww, Monfils went out.

  • Christine27/06/2014 at 11:12

Ooh, yesterday Rafa's opponent knocked his bottle over! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYZfWFp2m3Y So mean.

Ooh, yesterday Rafa's opponent knocked his bottle over! https://www.youtu…tch?v=PYZfWFp2m3Y So mean.

hahahahah. so mean. did rafa see it?

  • Christine27/06/2014 at 12:03

hahahahah. so mean. did rafa see it?

    I don't think so.

If he did, he would know that he won anyway and so probably doesn't need the endless superstitions!

  • john27/06/2014 at 12:50

Ooh, yesterday Rafa's opponent knocked his bottle over! https://www.youtu…tch?v=PYZfWFp2m3Y So mean.

ha, i like it, id do it after every change of ends. just mess with him a little.

interesting the tsonga match has just started vs the well named jimmy wang, this is the 5th day in a row tsonga has had to get on court, will be a bit unlucky if todays match doesnt finish before dark.

  • john27/06/2014 at 14:03

woah novac might be out. slipped on the court and appears to have really hurt his shoulder, waiting for the doctor but it doesnt look good

  • john27/06/2014 at 14:12

    he appears alright now.

  • Christine28/06/2014 at 10:34

Looks a bit damp Wimbledon way.

  • Lukeh28/06/2014 at 13:06

Finally settled down after a busy week for wimbledon and glasto at the same time. Rafa on TV, Royal Blood on laptop. Excellent.q

  • Lukeh28/06/2014 at 13:25

Wow, kukushkin takes the first set!

  • Christine28/06/2014 at 13:54

Wow, kukushkin takes the first set!

Nadal has been making a habit of losing the first set then absolutely storming to victory. It's weird.

  • john28/06/2014 at 14:05

    wimbledon needs more roofs.,.....

  • Lukeh28/06/2014 at 14:05

Nadal has been making a habit of losing the first set then absolutely storming to victory. It's weird.

It does seem like this is going to happen!

  • Christine28/06/2014 at 14:25

Ooh David Tennant in the crowd.

  • Lukeh28/06/2014 at 14:28

Ooh David Tennant in the crowd.

I did my usual eye twitch at him being called a 'previous Doctor Who'.

Aso Christine, did you see? August 23rd!!!

  • Christine28/06/2014 at 14:46

Aso Christine, did you see? August 23rd!!!

I did! That's not toooo far away.

  • Christine28/06/2014 at 15:03

    Nadal wins.

  • Lukeh28/06/2014 at 15:04

    Nadal wins.

He needs to stop teasing with first sets like that

  • Christine28/06/2014 at 15:08

Some pretty creative hats in the crowd!

  • Christine28/06/2014 at 15:31

Sharapova lost her opening service game, not a great start, but I bet she does a Nadal.

  • Mr C28/06/2014 at 15:32

steffi graf playing on the red button.

pretty sure the 'replay' icon is redundant information in this instance.

  • Christine28/06/2014 at 15:51

Double fault helps Sharapova break back. Close match though.

  • Mr C28/06/2014 at 16:05

lee mckenzie on the telly. as if life isn't messed up enough today :)

  • Christine28/06/2014 at 16:31

    Game set match Maria.

  • lou28/06/2014 at 18:54

Big fan of a Murray Match followed by a Tsonga match. my evening is sorted. Even if i am coming into the Muzza match a little late.

  • Christine30/06/2014 at 17:40

Was just catching up with the results. They suspended Radwanska's match at 6-3 5-0. That's gotta be a tough game to come back to.

  • lou30/06/2014 at 17:41

    look at her shoes...

yuck!! Although, look at their faces - they are both equally star struck at each other! cute!

  • Mr C30/06/2014 at 17:44

    yuck!!

    nooo, awesome!

  • lou30/06/2014 at 17:46

    oh gosh i can't cope.

  • lou30/06/2014 at 17:55

speaking of not being able to cope. It was all going so well in this Murray match... and then i turned the Tv on and now Anderson seems to be giving Muzza a run for his money. This was not in the plan!!

  • Christine30/06/2014 at 17:55

and then i turned the Tv on

Ahh, welcome to my world :)

  • lou30/06/2014 at 17:56

    OH THANK GOODNESS!!

    Murray wins.

  • lou30/06/2014 at 17:56

Ahh, welcome to my world :)

    :D

  • lou30/06/2014 at 17:56

now... for a Tsonga victory over Nole :)

  • lou30/06/2014 at 19:09

poor Jo. he doesnt stand a chance :(

  • Christine30/06/2014 at 19:10

poor Jo. he doesnt stand a chance :(

Was about to tune in, but, er, no. I don't like the depressing ones.

  • lou30/06/2014 at 19:12

Was about to tune in, but, er, no. I don't like the depressing ones.

its not depressing. It's amazing tennis from Nole. Just sad it's leaving Tsonga with no where to go. Novak already serving for a 2 set lead. amazing.

  • lou30/06/2014 at 19:13

    Second set to Novak. crazy!

  • lou30/06/2014 at 19:16

    Tsonga's serve is so impressive...

  • lou30/06/2014 at 20:08

aw, so sad for Jo, and that we wont see his pretty face for the rest of Wimbles now :(

but my goodness, i'm not sure anyone would have stood a chance against Novak today..

  • john01/07/2014 at 12:52

im a big fan of sabine lisicki but calling for an injury time out when serving at break point in the third set is poor form. they really need to tighten the rules to stop these tactics taking place.

  • Mr C01/07/2014 at 14:38

didn't realise iplayer has chapter section on its live player too.

select the start of any three of kerber v sharapova sets, set points and tie-breaks.

    wow.

  • Mr C01/07/2014 at 14:50

mark webber in the crowd :)

  • Mr C01/07/2014 at 14:50

    maria's out of wimbledon (again).

  • john01/07/2014 at 14:56

cracking match that. been waiting all night for the start of the kyrgios v nadal match.... why do i have to start work at 6:30 in the morning. still might watch the first set though, maybe the second too......

  • Mr C01/07/2014 at 15:18

    heh!

  • john01/07/2014 at 15:30

no nerves nick,,, serving like a seasoned campaigner,

  • Christine01/07/2014 at 16:13

The second week is always such hard work. All the good stuff finishes before I get home!

Still, I see Nadal is doing his "lose the first set" thing again.

  • Christine01/07/2014 at 16:28

Through the legs shot for Kyrgios and it hits the line. He's impressed with himself there :)

  • Christine01/07/2014 at 17:39

Blimey, Kyrgios gets the second set against Nadal. Fab stuff!

  • Christine01/07/2014 at 17:39

His first Wimbledon and he's a wild card. No wonder those yellow-shirted Aussie fans in the crowd are doing their nut.

  • Christine01/07/2014 at 17:59

Holy moly, Nadal broken in the fourth!

  • Mr C01/07/2014 at 18:09

    WHAT?!

  • Mr C01/07/2014 at 18:09

    what a finish

  • Christine01/07/2014 at 18:10

That was brilliant. Nadal maybe wasn't at 100%, but was totally outplayed.

  • Steven Roy01/07/2014 at 18:11

    Nadal out?? Didn't expect that

  • john02/07/2014 at 09:12

what a result, good for tennis here and good for my bank account, was on at big odds......

nadal couldnt handle the kyrgios serve at all, also kyrgios attacked nadals serve and didnt allow him to dominate the points.

first teenager to beat a number 1 ranked player in a slam since rafa beat roger in 2005, good signs.

anyone see serena last night (yesterday) didnt look too good. (this is exactly how i play after about 12 cans.....)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZeAQRhb66U

  • john02/07/2014 at 11:50

genie is awesome, will be a top 5 player for a long long time, so tough, when she is down she steps up when others tend to go in their shells and play it safe. alot of maria about the way she plays, especially how mentally tough she is,

  • john02/07/2014 at 15:05

can the top 4 seeds all be out before the semis........

  • Mr C02/07/2014 at 17:29

surely that old swiss dude can't win one more wimbledon?

  • Christine02/07/2014 at 17:31

surely that old swiss dude can't win one more wimbledon?

It must be a Federer vs Djokovic final.

  • Christine02/07/2014 at 18:06

Like that Hewitt is in the crowd for the Kyrgios game. Eyeing up his replacement!

  • john03/07/2014 at 14:58

kvitova through to the final, trying to stay awake for the halep v bouchard semi, but im struggling, feel this will be a long three setter.

  • Christine03/07/2014 at 17:40

    Kvitova Bouchard final. Excellent!

  • Mr C03/07/2014 at 17:41

    Kvitova Bouchard final. Excellent!

    WOMBAAAAAT!

  • Christine06/07/2014 at 16:25

Two sets all in the final. It couldn't be any closer!
