Hello everyone, I think it falls to me to cover the fabulous tennis today and this could be a problem as I have only managed to catch a couple of hours over the last couple of days. I have seen all the important bits though, so bear with me. The bad news is that this is the final day of the first week, as Wimbledon takes a break tomorrow for "Middle Sunday". Sometimes, if the weather has been bad, and the organisers are worried about the schedule, they have to play straight through Sunday as well, but we have had stunning weather. It's surprising, because Wimbledon always means rain. Lets hope this is a sign of things to come.
So, what good things happened yesterday?
First up, poor John Isner was knocked out of the championship in his second round match. It's a shame, because it must really hurt to have played ten hours for no avail. Hurt both physically and literally. He and Mahut have made a name for themselves now, and they will forever be well loved at Wimbledon. Poor Isner. He, and partner Sam Querrey, also went on to withdraw from the doubles, but who can blame him?
Notable names going through yesterday: Novak Djokovic, Jelena Jankovic, Venus Williams and Roger Federer in a "blink and you'll miss it" win. It's about time King Rog put in a dominant performance, we were beginning to wonder what was wrong with him!
With all that behind us, it's time to look ahead to the matches coming up today. We've got Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray all on Centre Court in that order. Soderling and Sharapova take pride of place on Court 1, whilst Rodionova - the dark horse of the championship - is out on Court 18. I wonder if Court 18 is almost as famous as Isner and Mahut now?
That's all I have, I'm afraid. As the days wear on, we get less and less singles matches, and more and more doubles. I'm not very good at following the doubles matches because there are twice as many players involved, but maybe this year I'll do better. See you in the comments!
today:
Serena Williams (USA)[1] v. Dominika Cibulkova (SVK)
Serena Williams/Venus Williams (USA)[1] v. Dominika Cibulkova (SVK)/Anastasia Pavlyuchekova (RUS)
Poor Domi is going to get beaten by Serena twice in the same day.
Q. Who do you think would win a WAG‑off between the tennis WAGS and the soccer wags?
ANDY RODDICK: That just sounds dirty. You just said 'WAG‑off.' I'm not going to answer that.
Oh Andy. I love you.
Serena isn't hanging around today.
Ferru was up two sets and a break. But then he lost his break and got broken and lost the third set. Don't you love me Ferru?
oh for gods sake ferru.
I am giving up on Ferru. Back later. I had no idea Andy was playing Gilles and I LOVE HIM.
oh ferru, I gave up on you so you would WIN while I was gone.
Love Gilles? But he has been wayyy of form recently (typical French) :(
Hopefully he'll carry Richie's spirit and at least give M-Andy a hard time.
btw Ferrer has won now. But I am sad for Jeremy. :(
YAAAAY
I love all the French boys, they're such cuties :D
I used to support all French tennis players but they gave me such heartbreak that I only remain cautiously optimistic now.
Maria 'ScreamQueen' Sharapova is on court now. :D
Rafa v Petzschner currently 1 set all 5 - 5 with serve.. but Rafa's seeking medical advice for his elbow at the break between sets. lets hope it's not too bad, it's shaping up to be a good game.
oooooohhh. Maria is through! :D
Nadal 1 set down.. this could be interesting...
Jo-Wil wins! Yay for straight sets victory! :D
things are coming up milhouse tonight!
i dont know what that means but hi Amy
ask lukeh, he will tell you ;)

god bless im
Not so for me. :( Come on Rafa!!!!
Re: simpsons, I think. ;)
ooh and Sam is on court! Yaaay!
Rafa appears to have woken up again.
Or the pain in his elbow has died down.
the elbow is the knee of the arm, I've always said.
Good ol' Rafael Kneedal.
:D
I wish I could call on someone for a massage anytime I wanted.
ooooh code violation
Oooh, who did what?
Rafa is apparently being coached from Uncle Toni up in the box.
well, Rafa, you have now played more sets than Roger.
And Rafa wins! Practicing for a 5-set final?
i forgot the start of dr who :(
oh never heard that expression before..
i have seen the simpsons before.. i promise!
woot almost Gilles time!
if my commentators say Rafa is defending his title one more time I will punch them.
hee. :P
Good luck getting any support ever again, Hanescu.
What did he do?
no play past 10:30? i thought the limit was 11? :(
I wonder if Lukeh saw Ferru run into the croucher.
he spat at the crowd, and then he deliberately foot faulted 4 points in a row, then he decided he didn't want to play any more and walked off the court.
he's working today so i doubt it.. but i'm sure he'd love to see it lol
OMG. Really really bad-mannered. :(
ooh is he the one that got finned?
yeah, $7500 for the spitting and $7500 for not trying
Should have been much much more. Especially for not trying.
i like the idea of getting fined for not trying.
I thought it was fined for walking off?
wohoo! yay for murray
that probably comes under not trying
my tv coverage has stopped. I don't know why, its 4am on a Sunday, what could possibly be better to show at this hour?
Ah right.
the official wording is "not using best efforts at the conclusion of the match"
4am?! go to sleep, murray is going to win anyway.. ;)
Well, Gilles did beat Federer twice...
its not like I have anything to do tomorrow :D And I want to see The Judy :D
plus, Sam is still on. He is my last Giant American left!
:D
Well, that was a quick set. :(
:D
ahh, French fail.
right, zzzz
Good night? :)
night Amy!
this French dude looks like a vampire
#sorryamy
And not just any vampire, but the SPARKLY one. ;)
yes! i wasnt going to say anything.. but yes he does..
You're not the only one. ;)
:D hehe!!
How is ANdy Murray's match still going? I saw the start of it and he won 7 of the first 8 games
he's doing good. 2 sets up, 4-4 in the 3rd :)
But before he was winning nearly every game. He broke Simon's serve 3 of his first 4 service games.
he broke him!!!! one more game murray!!! :)
I noticed earlier that from some angles Murray looks like Jenson. Something about the hair
hahahaha noooo he doesn't look like JB :)
3 match points..
okay... 2 match points.
I am serious. They showed a shot early on and it was just hair and a bit of temple and forehead and I tought it was Jenson
yyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Not Jenson! It's a vampire thing. :D
Gilles Simon should apologise to Franck for being an embarrassment to France
:D
Ah well.
Murray's into the 2nd week! :)
He always does that. French tennis players are temperamental. One week they beat the Federers, next week they lose to merely a Murray. :(
