Super Bowl Baby, yeah! And it’s New York’s Giants & Jets and New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium's chance to host. I don’t know whether you’ve heard, it’s going to be cold, maybe even experiencing snow. The Seattle Seahawks vs Denver Broncos (UK 23:30 – C4 + Sky Sports / US 18:30 – Fox) is only the second time since 1993 that the top seed from each Conference have played each other in the Super Bowl, and the first time since 2003 that the top ranked offence is playing the top ranked defence. None of the Seattle players have got this far before, compared to only four of the Broncos. A Denver win and Peyton Manning will bring him level with Eli’s two rings, a Seahawks victory and Richard Sherman will never shut up about it. And if the football is not enough, Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers team up for the Halftime Show. Line up your drinks, open up some snacks, sit back (in a comfortable chair) and enjoy.

I will try and watch/understand as much as I can. Due to my love of The Simpsons I'll support *raises glass to mouth* The Denver Broncos.

I have accidentally just seen some of The Jump. I feel dirty.

This is a strange show. There's surely only so much you can get out of a jump

  • ADMunro02/02/2014 at 22:27

    What is it?

It's like Splash, but with snow and skis and on Channel 4.

  • elephino02/02/2014 at 22:28

It's like Splash, but with snow and skis and on Channel 4.

In that case, I shall watch as much of it as I watched of Splash (and wait for the Australian version to show up this winter).

  • ADMunro02/02/2014 at 22:37

New Jersey, actually. But the two New York teams play in that stadium, so it's billed as NY/NJ.

    Plus New Jersey sucks.

    No ads for 5 minutes

  • Mr C02/02/2014 at 22:52

v.tenuous connection, but u2 have some ad spot thing later in this game. they have a free song on itunes to download for the next 24hrs. can't claim it to be a very good song, but it costs nothing at all and in return $1 goes to charity.

All those breaks that don't happen give Mike Carlson more airtime to explain what happened

  • Lukeh02/02/2014 at 23:14

"You have jitters as big as butterflies"

    bit underwhelming

  • ADMunro02/02/2014 at 23:15

Going to a Superbowl is definitely on my bucket list. The atmosphere must be incredible.

you're also the only girl in the comments.

  • Will^02/02/2014 at 23:16

The are the 49ers and the next superbowl is 49 so their name is on it. See subtle

    Ohio! Damn...

  • Barney Occleston02/02/2014 at 23:20

I think the Superbowl would be a lot better if, instead of battling each other for points, they got medals when they got a touch down.

  • Steven Roy02/02/2014 at 23:20

I love playing spot the kicker as a team runs out. You get all those monsters and someone who looks like he is from the under 14s team

    Last three quarters.

Instead of timeouts, they should be allowed to hose the field three times.

  • Steven Roy02/02/2014 at 23:28

Joe Namath with the fur coat. Wish I had seen him play and known what he was like. Saw him interviewed earlier and he was great

  • Lukeh02/02/2014 at 23:28

  • ADMunro02/02/2014 at 23:28

    Trigger-happy Namath.

I love that term. Polar Vortex. It sounds like a Doctor Who episode.

!!! I thought Jets in my head! My fingers typed Giants. hahahaha

  • Noelinho02/02/2014 at 23:31

  • Will^02/02/2014 at 23:32

No breaks in the 2nd half, so this one will be packed with them.

  • Kai02/02/2014 at 23:32

BTW, my blogpost didn't get written, so pick: SEAHAWKS. Not confident. How can you be with these two teams!

Same here. I want the Seahawks but the Broncos will be hard to beat. For those of you picking via the uniform color method: Seahawks. Too bad they're not wearing their nice dark blue jerseys..

  • Noelinho02/02/2014 at 23:32

    Bad decision. Muppet.

  • Steven Roy02/02/2014 at 23:33

  • Steven Roy02/02/2014 at 23:36

Fastest score in Super Bowl history.

    Has to be.

  • ADMunro02/02/2014 at 23:36

    Has to be.

    Comms just said so.

  • Will^02/02/2014 at 23:36

    Has to be.

It is according to Twitter, timed at 12s.

  • Lukeh02/02/2014 at 23:36

    What a run!

  • Mr C02/02/2014 at 23:37

    Harvin is fresh

  • ADMunro02/02/2014 at 23:37

that was a close run thing. Played, Harv.

  • Lukeh02/02/2014 at 23:37

Did something get thrown on the pitch?

  • Noelinho02/02/2014 at 23:38

    Has to be.

    It is. 12 seconds.

  • Steven Roy02/02/2014 at 23:38

False start. One of the Seattle players moved early

  • ADMunro02/02/2014 at 23:38

Did something get thrown on the pitch?

a flag. penalty marker for the refs.

  • Will^02/02/2014 at 23:38

Did something get thrown on the pitch?

The yellows mean a rule has been broken so the chief zebra has to then tell us something over the intercom

  • Noelinho02/02/2014 at 23:38

I had Harvin down for first score.

  • Steven Roy02/02/2014 at 23:38

Did something get thrown on the pitch?

All the officials (7 of them) throw yellow flags on the ground to signal an infringement

  • Lukeh02/02/2014 at 23:38

    Catch fail

  • Lukeh02/02/2014 at 23:38

All the officials (7 of them) throw yellow flags on the ground to signal an infringement

    aha!

  • Noelinho02/02/2014 at 23:38

All the officials (7 of them) throw yellow flags on the ground to signal an infringement

If they run out of yellow flags, they throw their hat.

  • ADMunro02/02/2014 at 23:39

If they run out of yellow flags, they throw their hat.

what if they run out of hats?

  • Lukeh02/02/2014 at 23:39

what if they run out of hats?

    They do the Safety Dance

  • Steven Roy02/02/2014 at 23:39

what if they run out of hats?

They also carry a blue bean bag

  • Noelinho02/02/2014 at 23:39

what if they run out of hats?

Then there will be a long pause and someone's in big trouble.

  • ADMunro02/02/2014 at 23:39

They also carry a blue bean bag

    ...dare I ask?

  • Noelinho02/02/2014 at 23:39

They also carry a blue bean bag

Signifies change of possession (when the other team get the ball)/

  • Will^02/02/2014 at 23:39

They also carry a blue bean bag

To mark the spot of a change of possession IIRC.

  • Steven Roy02/02/2014 at 23:40

    ...dare I ask?

It is just a little blue cloth like the yellow flag. It is weighted so that they can mark the spot of an event

  • Will^02/02/2014 at 23:40

    Pot Roast makes the play.

  • elephino02/02/2014 at 23:40

They also carry a blue bean bag

And yet Americans mock (real) football.

  • ADMunro02/02/2014 at 23:40

It is just a little blue cloth like the yellow flag. It is weighted so that they can mark the spot of an event

heh, i was going to ask what happens if they run out of blue beanbags

  • Will^02/02/2014 at 23:41

heh, i was going to ask what happens if they run out of blue beanbags

    Then they throw their hat.

  • Lukeh02/02/2014 at 23:41

I thought he ran into a cheerleader.

  • ADMunro02/02/2014 at 23:41

    Then they throw their hat.

but i thought they threw the hat before the beanbag

  • Kai02/02/2014 at 23:41

I thought he ran into a cheerleader.

Only after he leveled a photographer.

  • Noelinho02/02/2014 at 23:41

heh, i was going to ask what happens if they run out of blue beanbags

I don't think they would throw a blue beanbag for anything other than change of possession.

  • Noelinho02/02/2014 at 23:41

    No first.

  • Lukeh02/02/2014 at 23:41

There are so many people around the pitch!

  • Steven Roy02/02/2014 at 23:41

heh, i was going to ask what happens if they run out of blue beanbags

By the time they run out of stuff you have 7 flags, 7 bean bags and 7 hats on the field. The game will have been stopped for a penalty of some kind

  • Will^02/02/2014 at 23:42

    Early challenge

  • Noelinho02/02/2014 at 23:42

It's a lot closer than it seems...

  • Steven Roy02/02/2014 at 23:42

Bad challenge. He won't win it.

    It looks close.

  • Will^02/02/2014 at 23:43

He's not getting that one, so has essentially just wasted one of his 3 timeouts (for the first half - you get 3 more in the second

  • Noelinho02/02/2014 at 23:45

I was never in doubt about that one.

  • Will^02/02/2014 at 23:45

So he was down before he went oob.

  • Steven Roy02/02/2014 at 23:45

Unless the decision is clearly wrong they generally uphold the ruling on the field

  • Lukeh02/02/2014 at 23:45

    false start again

  • Steven Roy02/02/2014 at 23:46

The guy across from him moved just befor him

  • Noelinho02/02/2014 at 23:46

Yep. Was fairly clear to me.

  • Noelinho02/02/2014 at 23:46

    5-0

  • Lukeh02/02/2014 at 23:46

    Goooooal

  • ADMunro02/02/2014 at 23:47

It was like knocking a free kick to the side for someone to hit in football. The idea is to put the defence off balance but the defence won so he just unloaded the ball so he wouldn't lose yards

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 00:01

    Chamo Bailey is getting old

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 00:01

    Hilding.

  • Lukeh03/02/2014 at 00:01

    That flag is very distracting

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 00:01

    *Holding. Foreign keyboard. It's annoying.

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 00:01

    I thought you were top

So I am. last time I checked I was third

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 00:02

    Fumble

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 00:02

He didn't catch it. Nothing to see.

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 00:03

    Incomplete

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 00:03

You win if what Decker gets (x4) which is more than Baldwin's raw score.

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 00:03

    Ridiculous challenge.

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 00:04

    Ridiculous challenge.

Looks like the head coaches are nervous tonight

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 00:05

Almost at the end of the first quarter and Peyton is 2/2 for 5 yards

So far their O has been on the field for 2m 2s.

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 00:05

Broncos have the best offence that puts up massive yardage every week has 8 yards

  • Amy03/02/2014 at 00:06

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 00:07

    He should have kept that.

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 00:07

    No TD

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 00:07

Denver hasn't played a D as good as this all season.

Seattle hasn't played an O as good as this all season.

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 00:07

    Although, good coverage too.

  • Lukeh03/02/2014 at 00:07

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 00:07

    Still a one score game!

  • Lukeh03/02/2014 at 00:07

The Broncos have been flipping rubbish

  • ADMunro03/02/2014 at 00:07

    did he get it?

gotta have the ball in your control and both feet/knees down

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 00:07

Matt Prater is currently not the K to have in fantasy.

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 00:08

gotta have the ball in your control and both feet/knees down

    One knee equals two feet

    Yeah, but 4x points :-)

yep sorry wasn't sure, so just went with two of each

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 00:09

    Yeah, but 4x points :-)

    4x0 is still 0 :(

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 00:09

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 00:10

    He wins!

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 00:10

    Where'd it hit?

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 00:10

    Crossbar, I think.

  • Kai03/02/2014 at 00:10

Every time I hear any live audio from the NFL on the field I assume it's Bad Lip Reading.

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 00:10

    Crossbar, I think.

    Wehay!

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 00:10

    Where'd it hit?

I think it hit in the end zone and bounced baxk out

  • ADMunro03/02/2014 at 00:11

What a scrappy Denver game so far...

  • ADMunro03/02/2014 at 00:12

    wowowowow

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 00:12

    INT

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 00:12

  • Kai03/02/2014 at 00:12

    Woohoo!

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 00:12

That was a very wobbly throw.

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 00:13

The only good thing for Denver is that they have been absolutely rubbish but they are only 8-0 down

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 00:13

So for me Manning's currently on -2 fantasy points... then with a x4 bonus.

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 00:14

So for me Manning's currently on -2 fantasy points... then with a x4 bonus.

    Wahey, -8!

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 00:15

    Wahey, -8!

Everyone else on my team has zero except the Seahawks D which has 56

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 00:15

Seattle are protecting Harvin by not putting him out in traffic (too much)

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 00:16

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 00:16

Broncos need to play man with Harvin.

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 00:16

Odds Eli comes out after HT, dressed in his brother's uniform?

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 00:17

Broncos need to play man with Harvin.

Danny Trevathen could do a job

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 00:19

    Great running from Lynch there.

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 00:19

    Great running from Lynch there.

Got a hint of BeastMode in there

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 00:20

Broncos expect run on first down and in the red zone. Seahawks have to pass in red zone of they'll get no touchdowns.

    No arguments here.

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 01:14

I still would rather have Beyonce

Me too. As long as it's not accompanied by Janet Jackson.

  • Mr C03/02/2014 at 01:14

this guy has no idea how to work a crowd.

does he even know there is a crowd?

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 01:15

  • Mr C03/02/2014 at 01:18

1000% better the second rhcp took to the stage.

  • Kai03/02/2014 at 01:18

Flea and Thom Yorke/ Atoms for Peace were so good.

    I saw them last autumn.

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 01:20

Way to bring the atmosphere down Mars!

Just what you need at a sports event. Get everyone bouncing then put this in the set

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 01:20

    WHY DID HE COME BACK?!

The Chilis were just winding it all up :D

    Special teams count as defence?

    yup

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 01:35

I haven't heard a single Omaha tonight. It's just not right

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 01:35

It doesn't matter if you've not got Harvin in Fantasy, those points go to the SEA D.

Which is a shame,. since I have both.

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 01:36

I don't think the mics are very loud, but he has been awfully subdued

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 01:37

How was that a dangerous throw?

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 01:38

Seattle aren't letting deep or even medium plays develop for Peyton - not sure he can dink-&-dunk 30 points in 1 half.

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 01:38

Sherman down possibly injured. Bet he is still talking

  • Mr C03/02/2014 at 01:38

    :)

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 01:40

He's walking around now. Seems to be ok.

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 01:41

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 01:41

    Back on the field.

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 01:41

Remember he has to sit out one play.

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 01:42

Remember he has to sit out one play.

    Really? Didn't know that one.

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 01:42

    Flag, no?

  • ADMunro03/02/2014 at 01:42

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 01:42

    Offensive PI

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 01:42

    Really? Didn't know that one.

Yep, if you go down and cause a stoppage, you have to go off for a play.

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 01:42

No eyes for the ball, just stopping Sherm

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 01:43

Sherman never took his eye off the ball

  • ADMunro03/02/2014 at 01:43

Would I be right in saying we've not seen a single sack yet?

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 01:43

Sherman never took his eye off the ball

yes, but I'm calling for offensive, not defensive.

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 01:43

Would I be right in saying we've not seen a single sack yet?

    Yes

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 01:43

Yep, if you go down and cause a stoppage, you have to go off for a play.

That makes total sense, just like the other football, I just didn't realise the NFL had one.

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 01:44

    I'm high as a kite.

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 01:44

  • ADMunro03/02/2014 at 02:03

36 (pretty much)-0. In a Superbowl. This is ridiculous.

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 02:04

    Are we in garbage-time yet?

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 02:05

    Kyle Busch @KyleBusch

I'm just gonna say the orange curse continues w the @Broncos as they will never win a bowl in orange! #SB48

I commetned earlier in the season that they should keep wearing blue shirts. Elway got hammered 3 times in orange then they switched to blue and they won 2

  • Mr C03/02/2014 at 02:05

if we had a double points fourth quarter, it might stop people heading off to sleep.

    maybe next year.

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 02:05

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 02:18

How can a team score 36 points on 19 passing attempts?

Have 2 special teams scores and a safety and you're halfway there

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 02:18

How can a team score 36 points on 19 passing attempts?

Pick 6, kickoff return for a TD, so there's only 22 left to account for.

It's done by the score at the end of each quarter, so I'll have to see for the 4th. We give $5 per box before the numbers on each axis are filled in, so it's random.

Yep, don't think Carroll will be too bothered now.

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 02:32

Seahawks have a massive lead and have men rolling around injured on every play. If this was round ball football I would say that they are acting to waste time

Sherman going off on a cart

He's hurting. I mean, he's on a cart, so duh, but his face showed it. :(

Peyton just set a record for pass completions in a superbowl. I am surprised it is only 33

I can't believe this scoreline. Even cheering for the Seahawks I didn't actually think theyd win.

and someone I know through hockey came to the bar so I've not been alone in this room of strangers. SuperBowl winning!

That's good. You don't want to be on your own if others are in groups

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 02:44

Are they giving the trophy to Seattle already?

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 02:44

Are they giving the trophy to Seattle already?

no point drawing it out any longer!

  • Kai03/02/2014 at 02:45

Are they giving the trophy to Seattle already?

    May as well.

Love that the guy carrying it is wearing white gloves and it is going to be handled by dozens of players with filthy hands

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 02:46

    SACKO

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 02:49

Wilson is out of the game.

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 02:49

No point in risking his health just to run the clock

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 02:50

    Tebow could've done better tonight.

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 02:51

    Tebow could've done better tonight.

Regardless of whether he was QBing the Broncos or the Jets

Peyton Manning’s salary this year: $17,500,000. Russell Wilson: $526,217.

Wow. THAT's about the change for Wilson.

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 02:55

That will do it. SEAHAWKS WIN 43-8

  • Mr C03/02/2014 at 02:56

    that was blinking terrible.

  • Steven Roy03/02/2014 at 02:56

I thought if there was going to be a massively one sided score the Broncos would win but if the Seahawks were going to win the score would be close

  • Amy03/02/2014 at 02:57

    Woo and indeed hoo

Might need another screen... I'll worry about that come the Autumn :)

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 03:10

Always bizarre that they give the trophy to people other than the players / even the HC.

  • Noelinho03/02/2014 at 03:13

I fell asleep about 20 seconds after time xoired.

  • Will^03/02/2014 at 03:13

just finished watching... defence always wins, easy money, wasn't expecting the margin but the result was no surprise. seattle were the complete package tonight. the defence was so quick on the ball, offense did enough to keep the score ticking over and Denver were never in it. not often in recent years has the superbowl been a thumping like that, been really lucky as most have gone down to the wire.

having seen plenty of the superbowl halftime entertainments over the years, I have to say this was one of the better ones. not a fan of Bruno mars. probably only know 1 song, but he was alright, at least they / he is a proper musicians, the red hot chilli peppers were awesome for their one song, thankfully they played one from 20 plus years ago and nothing they have released in the last 15 years. lets be honest, their first 4 or 5 albums are really good, most of what they have released since 1991 is commercial bland rubbish, so give it away was a great choice.

in September, its a long off season.

There's a well explained post from Flea on the RHCP website for this mind you. I'm on his side as to why this was the case, pretty much out of their hands.
