70,000 people will pack into Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, while more than 160 million are expected to watch online or on television. This Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday, when the biggest sporting event in America, if not the world, pits the New York Giants against the New England Patriots in the 46th annual Super Bowl. Madonna will provide half-time entertainment and watch out for those once-in-a-lifetime, $4 million a head, commercials. Bring.it.on.

I wish I could join you all today, but I can't take my eyes off the waddling platypus that SPC posted on their G+ page.

I suppose it depends on learning style. It is kind of good, I think. I like visuals like that, flowcharty stuff.

Apperently in the town I'm from it only costs 1000 dollars to lead a high speed chase if you have a clean record.

there's been pregame from ESPN on for 7 and half hours, but Sky have just come on, so it's all go from here :)

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 22:33

there's been pregame from ESPN on for 7 and half hours, but Sky have just come on, so it's all go from here :)

yeah, I avoid the first 6.5 hours of it. I had DVR shows to catch up on.

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 22:34

oh I forgot Madonna was doing the half time. She can't be any worse than BEP last year, but she'll never beat The Boss, that was the best half time I can remember

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 22:35

This interview with Eli makes me feel like it was competitive hell in the Manning household.

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 22:38

This interview with Eli makes me feel like it was competitive hell in the Manning household.

Eli's got the chance to break the sibling deadlock tonight, and how sweet that it's in Peyton's backyard :)

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 22:39

surely you could just watch it on BBC website/TV in UK as they're broadcasting it as well as sky

    Sounds good

My sleep is utterly broken so I should catch some of this

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 22:39

Didn't realise that's Tynes is british. Go Giants!

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 22:39

Eli's got the chance to break the sibling deadlock tonight, and how sweet that it's in Peyton's backyard :)

Now I'm pulling for him. I haven't been a huge Manning fan - of either one- but now I want him to show his bro.

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 22:40

    Hey Bassano! :)

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 22:41

    Hey Bassano! :)

    Hey Kai

Did you make it to NYC this weekend or has the snow hit the Eastern Seaboard as well?

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 22:41

    Hey all

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 22:42

Now I'm pulling for him. I haven't been a huge Manning fan - of either one- but now I want him to show his bro.

I just like that Peyton's always been considered the better player, but Eli just keeps out-doing him desite not always looking like he knows where he even is! It's really got to get under Peyton's skin!

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 22:43

Did you make it to NYC this weekend or has the snow hit the Eastern Seaboard as well?

No snow. We're not really having winter. I guess we had winter with the October snow calamity. Only 1 small storm since then.

The city was awesome, had a really good time. A great day out.

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 22:44

Tom Brady looks like Justin Bieber Sr.

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 22:51

graceland's gotta be worth it tho

I loved New Orleans too, would like to go back there for a bit longer

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 22:54

I best prepare some snackage, and fast!

Just finished my pizza. I couldn't wait.

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 22:55

Is it not seen as an even fight. I heard on the BBC today that the Giants weren't expected to make it this far.

Was that because of the tough semi?

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:01

oh god, I hate this stooopid song.

  • Jordan F105/02/2012 at 23:01

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:01

How long has the pre-game show been going on? A few hours I suppose

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:02

Was that because of the tough semi?

the Giants were terrible in Nov/Dec - see post - but they got hot at the right time, as the announcer said.

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:02

    Hey Jordan

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:02

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:04

At least we know there will be less cheese since the Packers didn't make it

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:10

the world needs to not have events while I'm at work. i didn't realise my firefox was so old.

oooh, blimey. not tested it on old versions. err, can you upgrade?

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:20

    evening :)

    Heya

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:21

oooh, blimey. not tested it on old versions. err, can you upgrade?

no :( I'm not even meant to have Firefox so I'm not sure where it came from. It's Firefox 8!

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:22

no :( I'm not even meant to have Firefox so I'm not sure where it came from. It's Firefox 8!

Do they still have those portable apps you can run from a USB stick?

  • Barrie05/02/2012 at 23:22

I will do my usual....watch until half time and if it is close watch the rest, otherwise streaming radio in bed lol

  • Jordan F105/02/2012 at 23:22

I have the same problem Steen has. The comments are not updating.

  • Mr C05/02/2012 at 23:22

no :( I'm not even meant to have Firefox so I'm not sure where it came from. It's Firefox 8!

that should be okay. strange you're not getting updates. it's no different from the old site.

  • Mr C05/02/2012 at 23:23

I have the same problem Steen has. The comments are not updating.

hmm, it's all good i swear. i gots ipads, pods, and all sorts of things updating here.

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:23

that should be okay. strange you're not getting updates. it's no different from the old site.

when I hit submit comment it goes to a blank page too, then I have to refresh to reload the event. Stupid work computers.

I may peace out and leave you all to the superbowl because if I sit here refreshing all day then I'm clearly not working ;)

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:24

Like a comedy day, that sounds fun :)

  • Mr C05/02/2012 at 23:26

    Pats win the toss

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:26

hmm, it's all good i swear. i gots ipads, pods, and all sorts of things updating here.

my other browser choice is IE8 which helpfully tells me there are unread comments in the tab for the page, but doesn't load them :)

    you can't work, it's the superbowl :)

and its 10.30am here, the superbowl is really timed perfectly for Australian timezones!

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:26

Giants letting the NFC down in the coin toss!

    NYG getting the ball 1st

  • Jorrdan F105/02/2012 at 23:26

There I got mine to update!

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:26

  • Mr C05/02/2012 at 23:28

  • Mr C05/02/2012 at 23:29

Oh, my goodness, I forgot about the live chat! GO PATRIOTS!

    hey chap.

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:29

ooh IE is now updating. Odd.

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:29

Oh, my goodness, I forgot about the live chat! GO PATRIOTS!

just in time for kick off

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:29

Oh, my goodness, I forgot about the live chat! GO PATRIOTS!

    You arrived in perfect time

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:30

oh and now its stopped again. now it has a pending box that i can't clear.

i really should have tested all this stuff ages ago :D

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:30

oh and now its stopped again. now it has a pending box that i can't clear.

Single click on the pending box should download the comments

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:30

    Here we GO!

  • Mr C05/02/2012 at 23:31

    Here we GO!

    wooohoo!

  • Jorrdan F105/02/2012 at 23:31

    Stopped updateing. I think.

  • Mr C05/02/2012 at 23:31

this is the first superbowl i've watched where i have any clue what's going on.

    i blame sidepodcast.

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:32

Single click on the pending box should download the comments

should but don't. i also can't click to quote on IE but I can on Firefox, IE just gives me a wee 'error on page' triangle down in the status bar. Perhaps a two browser strategy is needed.

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:32

this is the first superbowl i've watched where i have any clue what's going on.

You can write the preview post next year then

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:32

this is the first superbowl i've watched where i have any clue what's going on.

And not a motorised form of propulsion in sight :)

  • Barrie05/02/2012 at 23:32

I'm hungry! Hot dog, anyone? :D

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:32

I'm glad to have our announcers back for this game, Steven, Collinsworth and Michaels. It's like a regular Sunday night.

  • Mr C05/02/2012 at 23:32

You can write the preview post next year then

i wrote the paragraph on this one #itsastart

  • Jorrdan F105/02/2012 at 23:32

That was caught out of bounds. It is updating. You need to keep this the active window somehow....

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:33

this is the first superbowl i've watched where i have any clue what's going on.

I need to come to NFL posts more often because after reading the preview, and last years preview, and that flowchart that Kai linked too, I'm still a little lost.

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:33

    CRRRRRUUUUUUUUZ

  • Noelinho05/02/2012 at 23:33

Hope you all enjoyed my defensive stats :-)

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:33

I'm glad to have our announcers back for this game, Steven, Collinsworth and Michaels. It's like a regular Sunday night.

Much more normal but no 3 and out at the start

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:33

Hope you all enjoyed my defensive stats :-)

Yes, thank you very much for them! :)

  • Mr C05/02/2012 at 23:33

I need to come to NFL posts more often because after reading the preview, and last years preview, and that flowchart that Kai linked too, I'm still a little lost.

kai and steven have the patience of saints. i've been testing them all year and can't break them.

    try it ;)

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:34

I need to come to NFL posts more often because after reading the preview, and last years preview, and that flowchart that Kai linked too, I'm still a little lost.

You must know more than Lukeh did the first time he watched the superbowl

  • Ryan05/02/2012 at 23:34

I'm glad to have our announcers back for this game, Steven, Collinsworth and Michaels. It's like a regular Sunday night.

I was kinda looking forward to hearing Greg Brady on 5Live, but Freeview seems insistent on only allowing the (wrong form of) hockey on the red button, shame.

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:34

I'm glad to have our announcers back for this game, Steven, Collinsworth and Michaels. It's like a regular Sunday night.

I normally miss them because they get the late games, I get stuck with Buck and Aikman more often than not

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:34

Hope you all enjoyed my defensive stats :-)

    Definitely

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:34

I need to come to NFL posts more often because after reading the preview, and last years preview, and that flowchart that Kai linked too, I'm still a little lost.

The guys in white are trying to move 10 yards in each go and get into the endzone to score.

  • Barrie05/02/2012 at 23:35

(I still dont get why it isnt called throw-and-catch ball :P)

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:35

You must know more than Lukeh did the first time he watched the superbowl

    heheh I think so

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:35

(I still dont get why it isnt called throw-and-catch ball :P)

    I agree. It's false advertising.

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:35

The guys in white are trying to move 10 yards in each go and get into the endzone to score.

the yellow line is where they're trying to get to each time

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:35

    heheh I think so

It's all about badgers and mascara apparently

  • Jorrdan F105/02/2012 at 23:35

    I agree. It's false advertising.

    Handball is already taken.

  • Barrie05/02/2012 at 23:36

oh thats early for a sack!

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:36

The guys in white are trying to move 10 yards in each go and get into the endzone to score.

that bit I got, my only question is when does a 'down' end, is there a time limit? is it when they get tackled?

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:36

It's all about badgers and mascara apparently

    hehe

    Badgers, mascara, hike!

Just listen for him to say Oklahoma. Then they're running out of time.

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:36

(I still dont get why it isnt called throw-and-catch ball :P)

I like Andy Ihnatko's tweet yesterday:

Memorizing my flash card, for tomorrow: "Football is the one where they can use their hands, but only 1 or 2 dudes can kick it."

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:36

that bit I got, my only question is when does a 'down' end, is there a time limit? is it when they get tackled?

When they get tackled or go out of bounds

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:37

that bit I got, my only question is when does a 'down' end, is there a time limit? is it when they get tackled?

out of bounds or down by contact

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:37

that bit I got, my only question is when does a 'down' end, is there a time limit? is it when they get tackled?

yardage only. If they get past that line, they have to go the next ten from wherever they are tackled.

  • Barrie05/02/2012 at 23:37

    snackage. I need snackage.

  • Noelinho05/02/2012 at 23:37

Yeah, Arrington with the stop :-)

  • Jorrdan F105/02/2012 at 23:37

It's all about badgers and mascara apparently

Badgers? BADGERS? I don't need no stnkin' Badgers!

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:37

    sack again

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:37

When they get tackled or go out of bounds

    very rugby league. got it.

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:37

    oh gawd. :(

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:37

    Sacked again

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:38

    very rugby league. got it.

    it's very rugby league!

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:38

    very rugby league. got it.

But with more Health and Safety approved PPE :)

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:38

yardage only. If they get past that line, they have to go the next ten from wherever they are tackled.

sorry, I skipped the tackling or out of bounds bit. hehe

  • Ryan05/02/2012 at 23:38

    very rugby league. got it.

I'm pretty sure the only difference is that you can throw the ball forward in American Football... and have weird shaped posts.

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:38

    very rugby league. got it.

Think rugby league with 4 tackles instead of 6 but if you make 10 yards you get anothr 4

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:39

I'm pretty sure the only difference is that you can throw the ball forward in American Football... and have weird shaped posts.

And the posts are 10 yards behind the 'goal' line

  • Pat W05/02/2012 at 23:39

I need to come to NFL posts more often because after reading the preview, and last years preview, and that flowchart that Kai linked too, I'm still a little lost.

I watch 4 or 5 games a year and still I have no idea. I get the 'downs' part, barely. No idea about the '& xx'.

I only recently discovered that it is called the Super Bowl because there are other Bowls and this is the biggest, always wondered why it had a strange name.

  • Mr C05/02/2012 at 23:39

ahh, i wish bbc always covered nfl. much better studio / presenter.

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:39

And the posts are 10 yards behind the 'goal' line

I think now should be the time I google to find out how long a yard is.

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:40

I think now should be the time I google to find out how long a yard is.

About a metre, give or take

  • Ryan05/02/2012 at 23:40

So much advertising on the BBC... it feels wrong.

  • Noelinho05/02/2012 at 23:40

I think now should be the time I google to find out how long a yard is.

92cm, give or take 1/8th of an inch

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:40

I think now should be the time I google to find out how long a yard is.

    3 feet :)

  • Jorrdan F105/02/2012 at 23:40

    1 Yard = 3 feet, 36 inches or 90- cm.

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:40

I think now should be the time I google to find out how long a yard is.

    3 feet, 36 inches, 0.9 metre

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:41

About a metre, give or take

ahh the yard is the one thats 3 feet? feet i can handle. This imperial stuff is easy.

  • Mr C05/02/2012 at 23:41

    flag for what?

  • Noelinho05/02/2012 at 23:41

    Intentional grounding

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:41

    haha YES.

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:41

I watch 4 or 5 games a year and still I have no idea. I get the 'downs' part, barely. No idea about the '& xx'.

it "down" and "yards left" so, 3rd & 4 means 3rd down 4 yards remaining,

  • Noelinho05/02/2012 at 23:41

    Safety

  • Noelinho05/02/2012 at 23:41

    2-0 Giants

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:41

    Intentional grounding

    Throwing to no one?

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:41

That's a weird way to start things off, but glad it was Brady's mistake. :)

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:42

    flag for what?

Getting rid of the ball to avoid getting sacked. Safety 2 points and the Giants get the ball back

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:42

    Throwing to no one?

yep. He just chucked it to no one close. That's a penalty.

  • Mr C05/02/2012 at 23:42

    got ya. ta.

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:42

    Brady fail :)

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:42

He was about to get jumped on

  • Pat W05/02/2012 at 23:43

it "down" and "yards left" so, 3rd & 4 means 3rd down 4 yards remaining,

    ah thanks

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:43

He was about to get jumped on

which would have been a safety = 2 points. So instead he got a safety = 2 points. :)

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:43

He was about to get jumped on

    bring the pressure!

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:43

love the safety, you get the ball back

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:43

Getting rid of the ball to avoid getting sacked. Safety 2 points and the Giants get the ball back

I did not see the term "sacked" in any of the things I read. I take it this doesn't mean his boss was going to fire him from his job.

  • Jorrdan F105/02/2012 at 23:44

What a stupid commerical debating the merits of NE and NT clam chowder.

The question needing asking is where are the clams in any chowder?

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:44

I did not see the term "sacked" in any of the things I read. I take it this doesn't mean his boss was going to fire him from his job.

a sack is when the QB gets tackled for a loss

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:44

I did not see the term "sacked" in any of the things I read. I take it this doesn't mean his boss was going to fire him from his job.

When the quarterback is tackled behind the line of scrimmage( where the play started) it is a sack

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:45

What a stupid commerical debating the merits of NE and NT clam chowder.

    NT?

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:45

    1st down. Nice play!

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:45

    NT?

    I assume NY

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:45

When the quarterback is tackled behind the line of scrimmage( where the play started) it is a sack

you lot explain things so much simpler than google <3

    We have had more practice

  • Jorrdan F105/02/2012 at 23:45

slip of the grease finger. meant NY.

  • Jorrdan F105/02/2012 at 23:46

I just want clams in the clam chowder, not potatos!

Wouldn't that just be potato soup?

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:46

    Random hint:

When the QB in the white jersey (Manning on the Giants) stomps his foot like that it's the signal to the guy to snap the ball to him.

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:47

nice from bradshaw. I love a good stiff arm

ok. that may sound a bit wrong...

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:47

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:47

    giants moving the chains nicely

  • Pat W05/02/2012 at 23:47

When the QB in the white jersey (Manning on the Giants) stomps his foot like that it's the signal to the guy to snap the ball to him.

    snap meaning 'pass'?

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:48

When the QB in the white jersey (Manning on the Giants) stomps his foot like that it's the signal to the guy to snap the ball to him.

And if you hear him shouting Omaha Omaha they are running out of time and need to start the play fast

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:48

nice from bradshaw. I love a good stiff arm

I'll remember that when we meet up somewhere. ;)

    Bradshaw looking great!! w00t!

  • Jorrdan F105/02/2012 at 23:48

Wouldn't that just be potato soup?

Not according to store bought canned clam chowder people....

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:48

I want to go to one of these footbally thingys one day, the atmosphere looks fun. Perhaps a college game, they look insane.

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:48

    snap meaning 'pass'?

snap is the centre passing the pall to the QB

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:48

    snap meaning 'pass'?

The centre starts with the ball in front of him and he hands it back to the QB. THat'sthe snap

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:48

I want to go to one of these footbally thingys one day, the atmosphere looks fun. Perhaps a college game, they look insane.

The pro games are really fun. Haven't been to a college game.

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:49

And if you hear him shouting Omaha Omaha they are running out of time and need to start the play fast

since that was pointed out to me a few weeks ago, o can't stop hearing it!

  • Noelinho05/02/2012 at 23:49

Think Eli took a hit on that play.

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:49

since that was pointed out to me a few weeks ago, o can't stop hearing it!

    Me too

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:49

I decided I should watch baseball after I watched Moneyball.

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:50

And if you hear him shouting Omaha Omaha they are running out of time and need to start the play fast

    Are the codes team specific?

go to Wrigley some day and watch the Cubbies. Best day of my life

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:50

oh crap, I thought it was Oklahoma before.. oops! hehe

12 men on the field for the Patriots.

    5 yard penalty

    Or Field of Dreams

    Oh yes

  • Pat W05/02/2012 at 23:50

normally at superbowl time every tv in my office is on it, today only mine is. boo everyone else, boo.

    What are they watching?

  • Mark05/02/2012 at 23:50

England should try playing an extra man in the rugby.

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:51

Huge penalty there, nullifies the Patriot stealing the ball from the Giants!

  • Noelinho05/02/2012 at 23:51

Moore ripped it nicely from Cruz too

  • Barrie05/02/2012 at 23:51

I want to go to one of these footbally thingys one day, the atmosphere looks fun. Perhaps a college game, they look insane.

When the NFL tried to set it all up over here, I went to the first World Bowl at Wembley - London Monarchs v Barcelona Dragons.....it was GREAT! (especially the mental marching bands :P)

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:51

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:51

    CRUUUUUUUUUZ

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:51

    Did you hear it? OMAHA!!

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:52

    What are they watching?

they were all turned off but someone just turned ESPN on on the two flatscreens so now I will be able to walk around without missing anything :)

  • Barrie05/02/2012 at 23:52

Didn't the Monarchs use to play at White Hart Lane?

I believe they did after the first year, but that year all home games were at Wembley. packed too!

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:52

    9-0 Giants

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:52

    Are the codes team specific?

they need to keep them top secret. It's why the coaches put papers in front of their mouths when they talk on the sidelines. Opposing teams were spying and learning plays.

  • Mr C05/02/2012 at 23:52

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:52

I think they played at Stamford Bridge for a while? Might be wrong

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:53

I've never understood the extra-pointer. Is it designed to avoid draws or something?

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:53

they need to keep them top secret. It's why the coaches put papers in front of their mouths when they talk on the sidelines. Opposing teams were spying and learning plays.

Some teams issue iPads with their Plays now

Remote wipeable, lockable, portable. Good idea

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:54

I've never understood the extra-pointer. Is it designed to avoid draws or something?

Just like a conversion in rugby.

Teams have the option of kicking for one point or trying to score a second TD from that position for 2 points

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:54

I've never understood the extra-pointer. Is it designed to avoid draws or something?

You can go for 2. You need to essentially score another TD instead of kicking it. I guess they're there as a hangover from rugby

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:54

Just like a conversion in rugby.

Still don't get the point of it

  • Amy05/02/2012 at 23:54

    you have the.best.job!

the only improvement would be if the only tv I can see from my desk wasn't behind me. I have considered setting up an elaborate system of mirrors in the past.

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:54

Still don't get the point of it

    they do get missed

  • Kai05/02/2012 at 23:55

Remote wipeable, lockable, portable. Good idea

great idea. I think it's cool how people would read lips and steal plays, though.

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:55

    they do get missed

    Yeah but not often

  • Mr C05/02/2012 at 23:55

Still don't get the point of it

it's like going home or away in question of sport. easy 1 point or tougher 2 points.

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:55

Still don't get the point of it

THey need a kicker for the kick off so they may as well give him something to do

  • Noelinho05/02/2012 at 23:55

Still don't get the point of it

No, you're on the money, it's one point. And sometimes it gets blocked. Also, you can go for two...

  • Ryan05/02/2012 at 23:55

    they do get missed

I presume its like rugby where its in line with where the try/touchdown was scored?

  • Noelinho05/02/2012 at 23:55

I presume its like rugby where its in line with where the try/touchdown was scored?

Nope, always from dead centre, on the two yard line.

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:56

I presume its like rugby where its in line with where the try/touchdown was scored?

Nope. Front and centre all the time

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:56

I presume its like rugby where its in line with where the try/touchdown was scored?

But for a team that have just 'scored', they're getting another crack at more points straight away. Adding insult to injury

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:56

I presume its like rugby where its in line with where the try/touchdown was scored?

it can be on either hash tag, be always the same distance, nowhere near as complicated of difficult as rugby

  • Mr C05/02/2012 at 23:57

    huh, bridgestone. #memories

  • Ryan05/02/2012 at 23:57

Nope, always from dead centre, on the two yard line.

So this kicker fella, he basically gets a lot of money for very little effort?

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:57

    Patriots lose 4 yards

  • Jorrdan F105/02/2012 at 23:57

Oh, come on, even Doug Flutie could have seen that one coming!

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:58

The extra point also makes a TD worth a potential 7 points, which makes a big difference from 6, as thats 2 field goals. It makes the TD more valuable. And the option of going for , gives you a chance to make that difference up late in the game if you need to

  • Bassano05/02/2012 at 23:59

  • peteS2K05/02/2012 at 23:59

huge pressure for the FGs tho. Ask Billy Cundiff who missed a "sitter" for the Ravens a few weeks ago

  • Steven Roy05/02/2012 at 23:59

So this kicker fella, he basically gets a lot of money for very little effort?

There are difficult kicks as well. If the team fail to get ten yards after 3 downs they either punt the ball if they are far enough back or if they are close enough kick a 3 point field goal (FG). So they can find themselves kicking over 50 yards with a lot of pressure on them

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 00:00

huge pressure for the FGs tho. Ask Billy Cundiff who missed a "sitter" for the Ravens a few weeks ago

    Cundiff had form though :-)

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 00:00

Then make a TD 7 points

but that takes the option of going for 2 away. And the EP isn't a sure thing, as I said, it gets missed. Games hae been won and lost on them

  • Ryan06/02/2012 at 00:00

Seems that folk are - unofficially at least? - uploading ads to Youtube... http://www.youtube.com/results?uploaded=d&search_query=superbowl+ad&search_type=videos&search_sort=video_date_uploaded&uni=3

But I'm wondering - is there an online ad stream somewhere?!;-)

    Is TE not a receiver/blocker?

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 00:26

    Ta

They tend to be bigger guys so they can block also, unlike the Wide Receivers who are the ones who run really far downfield and catch passes.

  • Pat w06/02/2012 at 00:27

I like how wikipedia describes it as a 'hybrid position'

its not a reload, it exits to main screen, I have to go back in

    That sounds like a crash.

Safari does that a lot since iOS 5 :(

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 00:29

that penalty turns 3rd down into a pass situation

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 00:29

    Good throw

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 00:29

    oh man. Close.

  • Jorrdan F106/02/2012 at 00:29

must say I'm not as invested in this game as I was last year, I like the Saints.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 00:30

Half time is normally quite long isn't it.

Half time is normally quite long isn't it.

    30 mins I think

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 00:30

That's why the Giants' punter is rated by most as the best in the NFL

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 00:31

Awesome punt. He kicked it so the ball went out of bounds at the 4 yard line, so that's where the Pats start.

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 00:31

oh I'll install a different one when I can be bothered then.

reckon a reboot might save it. ipad 1 i can switch been twitter and safari okay.

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 00:31

That's why the Giants' punter is rated by most as the best in the NFL

  • Jorrdan F106/02/2012 at 00:39

Eps 4-6 in IMAX, now that I'd see

I saw Empire in IMAX on a giant screen some 20 years ago, the are planning to close down the admusement park in Toronto where they showed it this year.

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 00:39

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 00:41

The commentators are wrong. This is not 4-down territory, not in the Super Bowl.

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 00:42

The commentators are wrong. This is not 4-down territory, not in the Super Bowl.

and at half time only 6 points down. no way do you go for it on 4th

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 00:44

Yeah, head cold, temp. Seems to be going round the office :(

    boo. :(

I'm fighting something off myself. So many of my students are sick! ew.

Not only does nobody at this Superbowl party want to play Downton Abbey Scattergories with me, they're kind of being d***s about it.

    :)

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 00:47

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 00:48

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 00:48

This is not helping my Superbowl pool required score numbers.

SKy keep advertising F1. I'm starting to get excited. Even if the cars are munters!

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 01:43

SKy keep advertising F1. I'm starting to get excited. Even if the cars are munters!

I asked about their on demand service and F1 but have had no reply yet

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 01:44

I asked about their on demand service and F1 but have had no reply yet

At the moment, F1 channel is not included in Sky Go Pay Monthly Sports Package.

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 01:45

I asked about their on demand service and F1 but have had no reply yet

I'm just chuffed they're showing GP2 & 3 too. And the Indycar from St Pete straight after the Malaysian GP. Good promtoion for those series

  • Jorrdan F106/02/2012 at 01:45

Why do I only remember Terry Bradshaw from Cannonball Run?

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 01:45

ooh, Acura NSX looks like fun...

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 01:45

At the moment, F1 channel is not included in Sky Go Pay Monthly Sports Package.

Nor is it available as a standalone paid option on Virgin Media

It's like they think non-football fans are gonna stump up for the Sports Package

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 01:46

At the moment, F1 channel is not included in Sky Go Pay Monthly Sports Package.

It's on Sky Go if you're a TV subscriber, so it may come

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 01:46

It's also on Sky to anyone who has HD...

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 01:46

It's on Sky Go if you're a TV subscriber, so it may come

No, I think Sky are evil but I was tempted if it was an option on VM

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 01:46

Why do I only remember Terry Bradshaw from Cannonball Run?

Ha! That's my 1st exposure to him, I had no idea who he was for years!

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 01:46

    That should've been a sack.

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 01:47

    That should've been a sack.

    Sorted. :)

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 01:47

    That should've been a sack.

that was a sack! woot! :)

  • Jorrdan F106/02/2012 at 01:47

Coome on Bard! Doug Flutie would have seen that coming from a mile away!

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 01:48

    Come on Giants!

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 01:48

No, I think Sky are evil but I was tempted if it was an option on VM

I already have sky sports, so I'm not really that bothered by it all :)

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 01:48

I'm just chuffed they're showing GP2 & 3 too. And the Indycar from St Pete straight after the Malaysian GP. Good promtoion for those series

Epically jealous of anyone who can get the channel.

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 01:49

Fearne Cotton is looking Madonna-like, apart from the horse thing

  • Jorrdan F106/02/2012 at 01:49

Ha! That's my 1st exposure to him, I had no idea who he was for years!

I remember him with three other ex-couches as anchors for NFL games. eventually the other coches where Jimmy Johnson and Mike Dika.

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 01:50

Epically jealous of anyone who can get the channel.

they were available already on various channels if you got sky sports, but it's so much better to have them all in the same place

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 01:51

I already have sky sports, so I'm not really that bothered by it all :)

Just think they're being quite anti-competitive but not allowing it as a paid standalone. Ah well

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 01:51

    oh that was lucky

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 01:51

Oh my god. I need a crash cart. My heart skipped some beats.

  • Jorrdan F106/02/2012 at 01:51

Come on guys, it is not complete until you recover teh fumble!

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 01:52

Two fumbles, and the Pats haven't come back with either of them.

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 01:52

Now we're punching each other after the tackles, boys?

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 01:52

Just think they're being quite anti-competitive but not allowing it as a paid standalone. Ah well

oh i agree, but as it doesn't affect me, it's hard to get riled up about it. I can see why they do it, it makes sense even if it isn't nice

  • Jorrdan F106/02/2012 at 01:54

Is ther estill a head in that loose Giant Helmut?

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 01:54

C'mon Giants. We need a TD here......

  • Jorrdan F106/02/2012 at 01:55

    Manning sacked! D-Fence!

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 01:55

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 01:55

    FG attempt it is. shame

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 01:55

    Big sack!

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 01:55

    much swearing here.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 01:55

    FG attempt it is. shame

    Every little helps

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 01:56

The Patriots' defense don't get enough credit for how they play in the red zone.

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 01:56

tynes looks likes he needs it off the right hash marks. he keeps going left

    much swearing here.

    plenty of time :)

"Where is this owl then, was it supposed to sing with Madonna?

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:03

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 02:03

    close damn game!

  • Jorrdan F106/02/2012 at 02:03

    Exhausted Quebecor vocab there.

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:04

Let's hear it for the teacher turned receiver!

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:04

    Hits of O2?

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:05

They cannot. keep. scaring. me. like. that.

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:05

Oh man, giants get the fumble back AGAIN.

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 02:05

Another fumble goes the Giants' way...

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:07

Who doesn't like Ferris Bueller? It's a JH classic

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:10

Yes. Nicks seems to be okay after that hit and his shoulder earlier.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:10

Gonna be a close finish, I can feel it

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:11

Cruz has been so well covered by the Pats tonight.

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:11

Who doesn't like Ferris Bueller? It's a JH classic

the character of Ferris really annoys me

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:15

    I heard Omaha.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:15

    I heard Omaha.

That would be easier to say

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:16

Bad Manningham, bad. Do NOT fade your route.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:17

Did Steven fall asleep or did I miss him going?

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:17

he didn't even have time to shout Omaha that time!

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:17

he didn't even have time to shout Omaha that time!

yeah, he was just like :0. Couldn't even get the 'maha out.

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:17

    that looked bad for ballard

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:17

Did Steven fall asleep or did I miss him going?

    maybe sleep?

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 02:17

Did Steven fall asleep or did I miss him going?

either his ISP got him, or the duvet did :)

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:18

and then gets the 5 yard penalty anyway!

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:18

    hehe

  • Jorrdan F106/02/2012 at 02:18

    Nice stand, Pats!

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:19

It may have gone down the drain for the Giants. Big energy shift, here.

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 02:21

It may have gone down the drain for the Giants. Big energy shift, here.

It's not over while the defecit's within single figures.

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:21

It may have gone down the drain for the Giants. Big energy shift, here.

Think positive thoughts. There's plenty of time (although more time-outs would help with that!)

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:21

It's not over while the defecit's within single figures.

    FG still wins it

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:22

Think positive thoughts. There's plenty of time (although more time-outs would help with that!)

Yes, and more of that helps.

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 02:23

This is so hard to watch...

  • Jorrdan F106/02/2012 at 02:23

    Nice run #32!

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 02:24

    Nice run #32!

Danny Woodhead. I'm nervous about him now, he fumbled in the divisional round.

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:24

Giants missed a real big chance to get the ball back quick with good field position there

  • Jorrdan F106/02/2012 at 02:24

    TheGiants are falling like flies!

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 02:25

    TheGiants are falling like flies!

I was just thinking that. And they were meant to be the healthier team!

  • Jorrdan F106/02/2012 at 02:26

I was just thinking that. And they were meant to be the healthier team!

They are all getting hit by two or more Pats each play. What's the logical conclusion?

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:26

In other news, at least most of the snow has gone from my street. Car looks completely clean except for the windshield which is still covered. Weird

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 02:27

Girls are in bed and the wife is doing whatever she does, I have time to comment a bit. I'm pulling for the Pats in this one strictly because of Brady. How are y'all?

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 02:27

Some people seem to be suspicious of the Giants injuries!

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:27

In other news, at least most of the snow has gone from my street. Car looks completely clean except for the windshield which is still covered. Weird

Conversely, we seem to not be doing winter this year.

  • Jorrdan F106/02/2012 at 02:27

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 02:27

    Brady with the block!

    Hi. Doing great, thanks.

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 02:29

    hey ya. loving the game!

Yeah, a close game is better than the blowouts the Super Bowl sometimes is.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:29

Girls are in bed and the wife is doing whatever she does...

    He he

    Not so bad, welcome!

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:29

Conversely, we seem to not be doing winter this year.

Cold winds from the East in the last week

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 02:29

Patriots have to get a TD, otherwise they'll not get the ball back again if the Giants score.

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 02:30

    oooooooooooh, so close.

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 02:30

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 02:31

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:31

Oops, wrong choice of word :)

    hehe

  • Jorrdan F106/02/2012 at 02:31

Flutie would have ran the 11 yards, Tom....

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:31

Ok, this has to be it

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:32

Let's go Giants! This is it.

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 02:32

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:32

    Oh this could be good

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:32

Let's go Giants! This is it.

Need enough yardage to make a goal if the TD doesn't happen

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 02:32

Am I the only one pulling for the Pats?

i'm sitting right in the middle :)

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:33

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:33

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 02:33

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 02:34

No, Noelinho is for the Pats, too, and Jordan, I think.

    It's all good.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:35

    hehe

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 02:35

If the Giants win this, Welker's going to feel terrible about that drop.

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:35

I hear his wife makes him :)

    that just makes it worse

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:36

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:37

    Obviously not a Newton fan

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:45

    Obviously not a Newton fan

especially Giant (literally) adrenaline-filled objects in motion..

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:46

Do they go for another TD?

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:46

Shows tremendous faith in the team to say give 'em the TD so we can then get one and win. They can't win with a FG.

    *heart thumps*

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:47

    bold choice

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:47

    80 yards in :57.

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 02:47

What a way to end the season!

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:47

    80 yards in :57.

    Yeesh

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:47

    Ouch!

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 02:47

    You gotta catch that, son.

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:48

that was poor hands from branch

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:48

    You gotta catch that, son.

#same. Gotta get that to do this.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:48

What's the maximum field goal distance likely to be?

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 02:48

if they could catch as well as he throws, they'd be unbeatable.

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 02:48

What's the maximum field goal distance likely to be?

    45-50 yards

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:48

if they could catch as well as he throws, they'd be unbeatable.

    Quarterbacks are awesome

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 02:48

What's the maximum field goal distance likely to be?

    At this rate 80 yards.

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:48

It is heartbreaking to see these guys dropping it on him.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:48

    At this rate 80 yards.

    :)

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:49

    45-50 yards

so the ball needs to be on the 35yd line

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:49

I am happy about that, though!!!!!!!!! Sack!

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:49

It is heartbreaking to see these guys dropping it on him.

    Too much pressure?

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:49

Big sack. It all comes down to this...

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:49

No ones been iced by the Gatorade bucket yet

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 02:50

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:50

    holycrapholycrapholycrap

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:50

    that was clutch.

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:50

    ooooooo it's still on.......

    so tense!

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:50

    so tense!

    Uh huh!

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:50

    no timeouts!

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:51

    Wowsers

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:51

They can stop the clock by 'spiking' the ball into the ground if they have 0 timeouts, but everyone has to be back on the line to do that.

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 02:51

too many men. is that cheating?

  • Jorrdan F106/02/2012 at 02:51

    Yes! penalty!

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:52

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:52

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:53

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 02:53

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 02:54

Someone has to lose. They played well though

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:55

There it is, ice shower :)

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:55

    4hrs of post-game to come

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:56

Someone has to lose. They played well though

Yes. It's that they wanted to win it for the owner bc his wife passed away last year.

And it's not like I hate them, I just wanted the Giants to win more.

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:56

    4hrs of post-game to come

    true. :)

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:57

    Sports Illustrated @SInow

What a weird, awkward and, ultimately, thrilling Super Bowl

This sums it up for me.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 02:57

I was in BB King's Bar when the Giants got through and remember it being a big deal, folk were glued to that game. That made me root for them

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 02:58

What a weird, awkward and, ultimately, thrilling Super Bowl

That 'oh, crap, I'm trying to stop now' sit-down touchdown is still cracking me up.

game winning too, it'll go down in history!

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:00

    Cheers Jordan

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 03:00

If that game was cricket, they'd have called it a gentleman's draw. Phenomenal.

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 03:00

game winning too, it'll go down in history!

It'll SIT down in history. hehe

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 03:00

game winning too, it'll go down in history!

I was thinking that as well. What a crazy way to win the Super Bowl.

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 03:01

game winning too, it'll go down in history!

I don't understand it. Why didn't he want to score the winning TD?

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:01

I don't understand it. Why didn't he want to score the winning TD?

Too waste time in case the Pats scored afterwards

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:01

    *to waste time

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 03:01

    what a throw though.

    that was impressive

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 03:02

I don't understand it. Why didn't he want to score the winning TD?

he wanted to stop at the 1 yard line to run down the clock some more so the Patriots couldn't go and try to score the other way, 'cause they're good at that (mostly).

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 03:02

On what channel did they show this in the UK?

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:02

On what channel did they show this in the UK?

    BBC One

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 03:02

I don't understand it. Why didn't he want to score the winning TD?

he wanted to run time off the clock so the Pats wouldn;t have a chance to respond. they only needed a FG so they could rely on that

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 03:02

On what channel did they show this in the UK?

BBC1 and Sky Sports 1, both with HD options

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 03:03

    Ah ok. Sounds crazy.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:03

BBC1 and Sky Sports 1, both with HD options

Odd how they both have it. Do they share NFL in season?

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 03:03

    Ah ok. Sounds crazy.

yeah, his legs thought so, too. hehe

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 03:03

BBC1 and Sky Sports 1, both with HD options

Wow. Are the commercials a big deal there, or is that only an American thing?

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 03:04

Odd how they both have it. Do they share NFL in season?

    that's on channel 4. oddly.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:04

Wow. Are the commercials a big deal there, or is that only an American thing?

BBC (UK) has no adverts. Bliss

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 03:04

Odd how they both have it. Do they share NFL in season?

Not really, fairly common, e.g. World Cup final on BBC+ITV, or Champions League final on ITV + ESPN I think..

Sky has lots of games in season, Channel 4 others. BBC shows playoff highlights (which I missed) + SB.

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 03:04

he wanted to run time off the clock so the Pats wouldn;t have a chance to respond. they only needed a FG so they could rely on that

but the Pats needed the TD, right? 17 Pats, 21 Giants.

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 03:04

Odd how they both have it. Do they share NFL in season?

Sky show Friday and Sunday games (excl late game) in regular season and all play offs and superbowl. Channel 4 show late sunday game. ESPN have monday night. BBC Wmebley (I think) and Superbowl, playoff highlights

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:04

Wow. Are the commercials a big deal there, or is that only an American thing?

But not during the Superbowl so much, it's 3am here :)

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 03:05

Wow. Are the commercials a big deal there, or is that only an American thing?

Just American (and Canada maybe, according to my feeds...)

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 03:06

Whoever shined up that trophy is now crying in the corner with their little shining rag.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:06

We don't tend to have 2min ads at any time, tbh.

Our ad breaks are shorter and less frequent too, in general

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 03:06

*by friday games, I mean thursday night

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 03:06

    that's on channel 4. oddly.

    Well, and Sky Sports...

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 03:06

Sky show Friday and Sunday games (excl late game) in regular season and all play offs and superbowl. Channel 4 show late sunday game. ESPN have monday night. BBC Wmebley (I think) and Superbowl, playoff highlights

Sky has Wembley. BBC used to show it live too but seem to have cut back to highlights.

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 03:06

BBC (UK) has no adverts. Bliss

Wait. Does the BBC never air commercials (adverts if you will)?

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 03:07

Wait. Does the BBC never air commercials (adverts if you will)?

    Only for themselves.

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 03:07

Sky has Wembley. BBC used to show it live too but seem to have cut back to highlights.

Sky always had Wembley too, it's in their regular season slot

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:07

Wait. Does the BBC never air commercials (adverts if you will)?

Nope. The odd trailer for shows but no commercials

We have a licence fee that funds the BBC

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 03:07

Sad for the end of football. I really enjoyed this season, really got into it.

Steven, wherever you are, thanks for another great season.

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 03:08

Wait. Does the BBC never air commercials (adverts if you will)?

nah, it's a public service broadcaster (at least here, exports are different).

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 03:08

Nope. The odd trailer for shows but no commercials

Yeah, and as an American it plays with your mind when you're over there, Statesman. :)

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 03:08

    Only for themselves.

I didn't realize that. I knew about the license fee, but didn't know that means mostly no adverts. I can see how that would be nice.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:08

We have a licence fee that funds the BBC

If you own a TV, it's mandatory

    £145.50 (about $218) per year

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 03:09

Yeah, and as an American it plays with your mind when you're over there, Statesman. :)

It works the other way too!

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 03:09

I didn't realize that. I knew about the license fee, but didn't know that means mostly no adverts. I can see how that would be nice.

It gives everything a different rhythm. And shows start at what we would say are odd times.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:09

    Does BBC America have ads?

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 03:09

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 03:09

I didn't realize that. I knew about the license fee, but didn't know that means mostly no adverts. I can see how that would be nice.

that's only bbc channels, everywhere else has ads, but only 2mins every 15min

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:10

    Wot, on the hour? :)

Or at 8:10, 6:25 but mostly on the hour or half hour

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 03:10

    Wot, on the hour? :)

    hehe

I can't remember if it was just F1, but things started at, like 4:20 or something. Some other show, too. I can't recall now. Blur. :)

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:11

And there are 4 BBC channels, though 3 and 4 are evenings only

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:11

I can't remember if it was just F1, but things started at, like 4:20 or something. Some other show, too. I can't recall now. Blur. :)

    F1 starts at 12:10

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 03:11

    Does BBC America have ads?

Yeah. Just flipped it over and it was showing Audi ad.

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 03:11

I can't remember if it was just F1, but things started at, like 4:20 or something. Some other show, too. I can't recall now. Blur. :)

Daytime stuff and sport is a bit scattergun, or "after the news" and the news could be 10 or 20 or 30 minutes, but evenings are fairly straightforward.

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 03:11

And there are 4 BBC channels, though 3 and 4 are evenings only

plus 2 news channels and 2 kids channels (which are day time only)

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:11

Probably after the short midday news

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 03:12

    they gave eli a corvette!

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 03:12

yeah, that's the "America" part. hehe

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:12

    2 news channels?

    sweet

  • peteS2K06/02/2012 at 03:12

    News24 & Parliament

Daytime stuff and sport is a bit scattergun, or "after the news" and the news could be 10 or 20 or 30 minutes, but evenings are fairly straightforward.

That must've been it, and on vacation I had the chance to see some daytime stuff.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:13

    News24 & Parliament

Parliament is not a news channel but I see what you mean

[I think they are obliged to broadcast it, though it really doesn't need it's own chanel]

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:13

That must've been it, and on vacation I had the chance to see some daytime stuff.

That's bad in every country :)

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 03:14

Thanks for TV lessons. I knew the F1 was ad-less on the BBC, but figured it was special to the race. Here, soccer matches are ad free.

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 03:14

That's bad in every country :)

SO true! The tv in Czech Republic was downright scary! hehe

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:14

Thanks for TV lessons. I knew the F1 was ad-less on the BBC, but figured it was special to the race. Here, soccer matches are ad free.

Sky (Fox folk) have said F1 will be ad-free during the race. When it was on ITV, it was such a pain

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 03:15

We must pick a rugby game to comment.

Also for some reason the comments have got so long I've moved from white background to black background.

to their credit, the only put ads in ply if it allows for it, or if the american broadcaster does, and even then only half the time

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 03:16

Sky (Fox folk) have said F1 will be ad-free during the race. When it was on ITV, it was such a pain

F1 has had ads here for as long as I've been watching. Guess I'm used to it.

Most of us grew up watching F1 with no ads, so for it switch to commercial TV was a difference. ITV did invest in coverage though, which was nice.

Most of us grew up watching F1 with no ads, so for it switch to commercial TV was a difference. ITV did invest in coverage though, which was nice.

Problem here is there is not enough people watching for Speed to invest a bunch of resources. They do very well with what they do, though.

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 03:19

Pat, you fancy germany or Belgium this year?

I'd like to do Germany because I've never been and I think I'd like Germany as a country, let alone the race. Cost is always an issue.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:19

I'm not up to speed but Ireland v England would be good

Mar 17th but we can squeeze another one in before then

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:20

Yeah, Germany is a grandstand for Amy & I

I'm doing GA for Spa though

    Anybody planning Austin?

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:21

Thank you for all the comments, folks. What a great way to watch. I really enjoyed it.

It really was, well done all

And Mr C, the live thing is great but it needs a funky name :)

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:22

    Anybody planning Austin?

A few are talking about it, yes.

Are you hooked up on Google+ ?

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 03:22

    Anybody planning Austin?

JC is, but not sure where he is tonight: https://twitter.com/jwcrummett

And Mr C, the live thing is great but it needs a funky name :)

    that's your job ;)

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 03:22

    Anybody planning Austin?

too costly from CT and bad timing for me.

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 03:23

I'm not up to speed but Ireland v England would be good

Yeah should be good, same day as Sebring though, will have to see how it fits.

France v Ireland 8pm next Saturday..

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:24

JC is, but not sure where he is tonight: https://twitter.com/jwcrummett

He tweeted a pic, watching at home

    that's your job ;)

True enough, must christen before season begins

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:24

France v Ireland 8pm next Saturday..

Ooh, think I'm free. Not sure yet

Can you do an intro post?

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:25

NJ next year should be a big'un

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 03:25

I'm saving for that one. :)

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 03:25

Are you hooked up on Google+ ?

I am, but my paper isnt yet. I'm hit or miss on posting (mostly miss recently) DavidCDoolittle

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 03:26

    Right, I should be off...

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 03:26

Otherwise I'll start on work emails again

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:26

Mr C: just a small observation

The URL is /events for the index page but /event/... for individual posts

I can see the distinction but is it just me that thinks it's odd

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 03:26

Can you do an intro post?

    Can do an intro paragraph..

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 03:27

I can see the distinction but is it just me that thinks it's odd

type in /event and see where it takes you.

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 03:27

I'd love to do one of the US races but I'd also want to do more whilst there, including seeing IndyCar, unless I did two trips. Costly as well.

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:28

I am, but my paper isnt yet. I'm hit or miss on posting (mostly miss recently) DavidCDoolittle

    Can't see any C's

    A few of them without

Well sign me up for that. Never been to an IndyCar race, either.

People to see, places to go!

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:28

    Can do an intro paragraph..

    Good enough

  • Bassano06/02/2012 at 03:29

type in /event and see where it takes you.

    The events index page

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 03:29

    Can do an intro paragraph..

mail it to us. if you can find a creative commons pic too, that'd be helpful.

  • Statesmanf106/02/2012 at 03:29

    A few of them without

Dave Doolittle in Austin. I'm wearing sunglasses.

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 03:29

    The events index page

so it doesn't matter which you choose to use, you get to the same place :)

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 03:29

Well sign me up for that. Never been to an IndyCar race, either.

I was daydreaming the other day of a road trip from the Indy 500 to the Canadian GP over 2 weeks.. I don't have the bundles of money to do it though.

  • Noelinho06/02/2012 at 03:30

    Right, see you all around!

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 03:30

Great pic of that Manningham catch. What a key catch that was.

Just wondered why one was plural and the other not. Instead of sticking with one convention

The redirect is fine though. I just notice weird stuff

Hostels are $15 per night. That's how I traveled cross country for a month. Maybe it's an option....

  • Kai06/02/2012 at 03:31

    Right, see you all around!

good night, thanks again for the stats. :)

Time for me to go, too.

    Good night, everyone. Great night.

single pages show a single event and the events page shows more than one. kinda makes sense in my head.

  • Pat W06/02/2012 at 03:33

Actually NASCAR is in Texas 2 weeks before F1 is..

  • Mr C06/02/2012 at 03:33

Oh yeah, I get it. I just think of the web pages as hierarchical, when they are not

Ah, I thought you were planning a big Texas blowout trip for a second!

I understand. I hope to get over to the UK this year for the GP but it depends on what the paper is willing to spend. We'll see.

Absolutely gutted. Fell asleep half way through the 2nd quarter and missed a great superbowl. I don't understand it. I didn't even feel tired.
