With the first quarter of the regular season in the books, teams should be all-warmed-up by now. First up on Sunday, the Battle of Pennsylvania enters another chapter, with the Philadelphia Eagles playing at the Pittsburgh Steelers (ko 1800 – Sky Sports); watch out for the Steelers, they should be fresh after their bye-week. Next is a quarterback-battle for the ages; Tom Brady faces his old nemesis Peyton Manning as the Denver Broncos travel to the New England Patriots (2125 – Sky Sports). The late kick-off sees the New Orleans Saints host the San Diego Chargers (0120 Mon am – C4); finally, with the Bolts on TV, I won’t be watching a different game to everyone else! Our late game on Monday has the Houston Texans at the NY Jets (0130 Tues am – BBC); key injuries to the Jet’s defence, and the standard of their QB play, suggests they are in for a hiding.
NFL Week 5
Published by Will Davies on
I would like to join you guys but I am not a fan of the teams playing. Which team's cheerleaders does Mr. C commend that I cheer for?
Ahh - nevermind. First game, I'm going for the Steelers (I think).
I seem to be stuck with the cheeseheads at Indy. Oh well....
What are you watching on?
Fox
Go American Processed- heads!
Ahha - because the Eagles-Steelers game is the one on TV in the UK - hence that being 'chosen'.
.... And the Swiss-heads still had to punt on their opening drive......
Cool - I'll join you on that game then.
Have to say, I'm cheering for Andrew Luck on this one.
14 nothing browns update...
The Browns have beaten the defending Super Bowl champions in 3 of the last 4 seasons.
Funny that the college QB's are good enough for the NFL bit the college refs...
4th and inches and they blew it!
There's me thinking he actually liked the sport!
TD run Kuhn - Packers up 7-0.
Nice run for the cheddar-heads!
Mr C just told me the fans wear cheeses on their heads. Americans are amazing!
Oh, Will, if you have any more Friends references, you have to do them when I'm around :)
Haha - did you look back over last week's? :)
Too right! Mermen!
Mermen? Is Maimi playing today?
The Green Bay Mermen :)
TD cheese- heads!
... Challenge flag
Why no challenge - did I miss it?
People with cheese on their heads and crazy good marching bands: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAzzbrFgcUw
I have been missing out on a lot.
Massive sack!
How do you sack a qb nowadays?
Woah - back - distracted by something.
Was it called back?
Looks like the Packers are getting up a head of steam.
TD swiss-heads!
20-3
XPT makes it 21-3
Think so
Packer pass-rush sometimes seems too fierce for lil' Andy.
That was a horrible 3rd down for the cheese-heads.....
Colts had a man wide open in the endzone, but Andy didn't have eyes.
Pony TD! 21 - 10 Cheeseheads
FG+TD+2PT (only)
Almost INT there - GB D too strong.
Pony Fg! 21 - 13. Cheddar-heads!
on the 17? Nice coverage - better than a Touchback
Game has swung towards the Colts.
TD Colts, 2PT attempt no good.
The cheeseheads can not buy a break right now....Still winning 21 - 19
Finally INT for cheddar-heads!
Aaron Rogers needs to concentrate on his offence rather than his advertising potential.
Can't GB think about running in the first two downs of a drive?
Another 3-and-out?!
Note to Mr C: The ponies have nice cheerleaders!
Colts are on form right now.
Ponies in the lead ?!?!?! 22 - 21
Yeeeeeehaaaaaaawwwww!!
Rogers must feel like he's standing in traffic right now.
What happened there? Packers back in front?
That's better. Swiss-heads up by five. 27 - 22.
<5 mins till the big-feature-game
Man this is a drive by Luck
2PT conversion is good
Packers have 35s to get 3pts - for the tie ...
Packers spike the ball to set up the FG
Colts win
GB FG was NG
If anyone's here, we're now over to the DEN-NE game. 0-0 midway through the 1st.
Into the 2nd: 7-7.
I'm watching the game :-)
Cool :)
Are we thinking 4minute-drill from Brady - TD before the half.
Who kicked off?
Erm Pats IIRC
Danny Woodhead is brilliant. Such an intelligent runner. Green-Ellis never waited for the hole, changes our running game so well. Ridley's great too.
You at Pats fan?
Yes :-)
:) I'm sure you've said that in the last 5 weeks ;)
Look's like Mr Brady is playing like his dominant self
About 15 years.
hey y'all, wish i could join you today, but too busy with work stuff :(
Bad times.
:-( But on the upside, I guess I can sleep tonight :-)
i need the bbc to only cover half of the weeks :)
... Chargers-Saints
It's on 4oD :-)
hehe. i might be around tues morning for the beeb game. manic week sadly.
Oooo good point - perhaps I will sleep through and watch tomorrow :) Might 5Live it if poss
No problem. Will likely give that a miss so I'm awake at work and watch on catchup later in the week. Have had a few manic weeks myself.
WHAT?!?
I'm sure I told you this! Sunday Night Football goes on 4oD, Monday Night Football goes on iPlayer :-)
Although, on 4oD, now I look, it says "Not Available"... but they said it would be...
if you did it fell clean out of my head. never occurred to me. i did at least remember 5live existed this week.
Mind you, they said replacement refs wouldn't be numpties too.
MNF is definitely on iPlayer though, I've seen it with my own eyes :-)
Ok not risking that - I'm up - I'd already mentally psyched up for it
it probably wouldn't be the same with live comments for me, but could be handy if i fall sleep before the 4th quarter again :)
Could be good if they cut out all the blather on the blue screen.
Right - 2hrs disco-nap before the Bolts - see anyone will be around.
I wonder if my post will appear tomorrow might have to include GB's 2nd half as a contender.
oooh guest post?
Oh, now that's how to run the ball :-)
Sounds like it. #nothere
WILFORK!
That ball was on the floor for a long time.
Flags all over the shop floor htere.
Broncos are really on the ropes now.
Great throw from Peyton for the TD.
Evening all
Evening.
Patriots just made a 4th down call that backfired spectacularly.
First play I saw/ Seems odd to go for 4th down with that score.
If they get the first down, they really kill the Broncos' chances. But they didn't, and they went 15 yards backwards :-(
TD Broncos
Love the Manning no huddle offence
That depends on you guys. I sent my post back on the 2nd of October. Whoever runs the Royal Sidepodmail System (RMS) needs to go down with the ship for this.....
oh right! christine's probably on that then. #oops
Patriots made another booboo
Ridley coughed up. He won't start next week.
Maybe Christine tipped Jordan as the next guest poster
;)
Actually, Mr c did, but the question is when did he sign me up?
Great play by Manning with two players hanging off him
LOL, it's like everyone wants to lose this now.
Shame that game fizzled out in the end. Looked like it was building to an interesting climax.
I wish i had seen the whole game but after the GP this morning i decided to go out to a track and watch some racing and only just got back in time to see the last few minutes
Time for me to go to bed. I have to get up early to go to work tomorrow for the first time in ten days and I only had 4 hours sleep last night. Suddenly this seems like a bad combination.
I'm back for the Chargers game, but doubt I'll be saying much - if there's not anyone else here
only lurking chappie. soz.
Ahh no worries - I might drop a few then - give you a distraction if rqd.
Chargers go 3-&-out on 1st possession - going to be a long night.
that's cool. i can put the game on in the background, but have found i can do a total of two things at once:
comment and code, or watch the game and code, or comment and watch the game.
one day, i'll be able to do all three and my life will be perfect ;)
what did you make of f1 stealing nfl graphics for the race today?
The grid-slot ones laid onto the tarmac - very cool. Let's hope those are just the start.
Thought they were Sky, until your tweet directed me to look at the BBC highlights, and there they were.
agreed. would've been more use on the replays i reckon, but a good first step.
When you can voice-2-comment, or grow another arm.
ipad does voice to comment already. it's a bit loud with a sleepy person in the house though!
Agreed. I have one of those that I'm hiding from. Almost a good thing that the 4oD app doesn't do live TV.
Similar to how Sky do on some of their VTs - with the captions showing race position etc (If you've seen that). Putting that on afterwards is 'easy' compared to live
there's so many normal people in the world ;)
yeah them. nascar do them live tho.
Bolts force the punt also, now are trying to drive themselves :)
NASCAR and INDY do have better cameras etc - it might be something F1 could look at incorperating.
could just be an oval thing. must check it out sometime.
nice catch
Eg the rotating camera-pods - should be very possible still on a track.
BOOM - TD Chargers!!
oooh those, yeah also v.nice.
Catching in traffic, and the Saints didn't like it. #Handbags
That could've also been #FormerTeam
The Saints look to have a strong O-Line - Brees isn't getting pressured too much
made that look easy
Wait what, how did he get *that* open?
And Drew Brees has broken the record!
which one? (watching muted)
Most games consecutive with throwing TD-pass.
ahha
Now 48 games - every game for 3 season (essentially)
Holding on the return
jeez
24Mathews doing some nice work on those plays
GameCentre stats for this match: http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2012100711/2012/REG5/chargers@saints?icampaign=GamePass_ScoreStrip_watch#menu=drivechart&tab=track
love the hot pink stadium!
Breast-Cancer Awareness month?
yup.
Wait, we missed the first 2 plays of that drive - damn adverts
Flag on the play - bit of a gift
Come on Rivers
Uhoh, Brees' offence is starting to click
looked up to daylight and the 49'ers. #confused
Haha - highlights :) This C4 package is so much better than the BBC's.
Have to say nice 1-handed catch on that play
it's almost as if the bbc are trying their best to make as little effort as possible. why aren't they 5live'ing the game they have rights too?
There is exactly nothing on 5LX, and all they need is a guy and a producer to talk in the bits where the Americans aren't talking
(And they already know how to do that)
agreed. it's very odd.
Nice catch Eddie Royal + roughing the passer('s knees)
Saints now have good field position for this drive.
HUUUUUUUUUGE sack
they seemed happy with that.
It stopped an almost certain score before the half to put the game to 11pts. 2 minute drill from the Chargers please :)
Very nice play!!
nice one. am probably not gonna make it to the otherside of the half. soz.
No worries - I got 90 minutes of sleep earlier to set this up :)
#planning
The only way that I'll be able to get up at a respectable time tomorrow ;) (or is that today?)
it's not tomorrow yet, i won't let it be. i am frightened to sleep in case someone tweets something.
How so?
lewis/button/mclaren. #fomo
That has been interesting, and they are now awake over there ...
need sleeeeeeeeeeeep.
I think Lewis will be quiet on the issue, and I think JB has said his piece, and don't think he'll stick the knife in. You should be alright.
on that note. g'night.
Night
Big way to start the 2nd half - INT
BOOM - TD Bolts - 24Mathews
Trading punts
Chargers come away with INT - but cancelled out by a roughing-the-passer - fair.
Huge play to revive Saints' hopes - TD.
Bolts give them the momentum and then the TD. 24-27 Saints
24-28 (with the XPT)
Rivers throws an INT
That'll be the game then - even with >6mins left I can't see him saving this one.
Saints restricted to a FG - 7pt game - 3mins on the nose.
Is a mistake-free drive too much to ask for?
Terrible calls leave Bolts with a 2nd & 37.
Defensive foul gifts the Chargers a 1st.
Fumble - OLine practically immobile. Saints take the knee & pick up the win.
