First up on the NFL-Sunday we have the New England Patriots travelling the short distance to play the Buffalo Bills (1800 – Sky Sports). Pats will want a win – this is the first time in years they’ve had more losses that wins – currently at 1-2. The second kickoff will see Drew Brees try to prevent his New Orleans Saints going 0-4 when playing at the Green Bay Packers (2115 – Sky Sports). Sunday’s late kickoff sees the Philadelphia Eagles hosting the New York Giants (0055 Monday am – C4)– where Eagles QB Vick has something to prove. The ‘Monday night’ game has the Chicago Bears at the Dallas Cowboys (0130 Tuesday am – BBC) – should be a matchup worth ruining your Tuesday for.

I am half watching the Pats/Bills game but I will be concentrating on the Saints/Packers game. I have a week off work so I may even see the late game

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 17:24

Evening all. And apologies for any typos ^^

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 17:30

The Pats have already taken an early lead - despite injuries to key offensive players, and the Chargers are 10-0 in the game I'm watching ;)

  • Mr C30/09/2012 at 17:44

should be around for the morning game. fighting code like crazy at the moment.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 18:07

Great effects mics at the Pats game. Can hear Brady practically having a conversation with his team rather than just calling the play

I love it when you can hear them calling all the plays.

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 18:09

In Kansas City, the Chiefs have already turned it over 3 times. Chargers 20-0.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 18:10

I love it when you can hear them calling all the plays.

Brady is telling them stories. Before calling the play there is a lot of stuff like - 47 is the Mike - Read the defence - Check the coverage - then eventualy calls the play

Knowing how complex the Pat's playbook is - all of those words are needed to explain their next play

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 18:13

    Bills take the lead. 14-7

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 18:15

The Mike is the middle linebacker. You quite often hear QB's calling that. I think it is whne defences make substitutions and move players around positions so that the O line know who may be blitzing

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 18:16

Yeah - the playcaller. Often useful when the Dis running 3-4 defenses, with 3 MLBs.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 18:19

Pats are in trouble. 3 and 17 from their own 10 yard line. Brady made the pass to Welker who was about 3 yards short of the first down when he got mugged by half a dozen Bills. They stripped the ball before Welker got down and now the Bills have 1st and 10 from the Pats 21 with 2 minutes 15 left in the half

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 18:22

Sounds like they are missing the duel-TE attack, and I don't think they like the slot-receiver sets any more. Hence no new deal for Wes

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 18:26

Am I reading correctly that the Bills are in the RedZone again?!

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 18:26

Bills got to within a yard of the Pats line then spilled the ball. Looked to me like one of the Pats players went helmet to helmet with the ball carrier

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 18:27

Am I reading correctly that the Bills are in the RedZone again?!

They were. They still are but the Pats have the ball

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 18:27

    Ouch, no flag?

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 18:28

    Ouch, no flag?

No and no protest or challenge either despite the Bills still having 3 time outs with seconds to go.

    Half time now 14-7 Bills

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 18:29

Chargers with a Pick6, now up 27-6 (Kansas botched an extra point snap earlier)

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 18:33

2 minute warning in Kansas. I look forward to some highlights at halftime.

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 18:42

Another INT before the half, but the Chargers choose to kneel instead. 27-6 HT - great game.

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 18:50

Highlights from HT highlight:, a cheeky wildcat throw from Tebow (was Fumbled, but that's not the point), and there was a fake FG by the Rams.

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 19:14

Looks like NE have clawed it back somewhat, which is exactly what the Chiefs are trying to do - the crowd are loud in Arrowhead stadium.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 19:14

Grabbed something to eat and came back to see Brady diving in for a TD 21-21

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 19:15

Hope he didn't mess his hair up.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 19:18

Very quiet in Buffalo but going 21-7 up to 21-21 will do that

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 19:20

Make sure you find the Rams' fake FG TD from the 1st half of that game.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 19:29

5 seconds into the 4th quarter and NE take the lead. 28 - 21

Make sure you find the Rams' fake FG TD from the 1st half of that game.

It will be on highlights after this game. It doesn't appear to be on youtube yet

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 19:31

30 yard pass straight through the middle of the defence to Gronkowski 5 yards from the line and no-one near him. Easy catch - 2 or 3 steps and the Bills go from 21-7 to 21-28

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 19:34

Buffalo turn the ball over for the 4th time today

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 19:36

Chief's have literally just made it 6 turnovers - 5 have been in their territory.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 19:38

21-35. 4 TDs in a row without reply for the Pats

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 19:40

21-35. 4 TDs in a row without reply for the Pats

I's say that's more like it.

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 19:41

Next season we should do SPC-Fantasy-Football.

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 19:42

That would be one way to get more people in the comments.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 19:44

Next season we should do SPC-Fantasy-Football.

We would need to start plugging it a 2 months before the start of the season and do a few posts on recommended players in each position. It could be done. Fantasy Racers was really popular or at least it was until it was dropped from the podcast then it died.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 19:44

Yet another turnover. Interception this time

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 19:46

    42-21

    This is getting ridiculous

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 19:47

Another unanswered score by NE?! 41-21

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 19:48

Another unanswered score by NE?! 41-21

Standard pattern. Interception - 2 or 3 plays to go a lot of yards and someone carried the ball in to score with three Bills hanging off him

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 19:49

...with three Bills hanging off him

    Beastmode

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 19:51

No wonder the Jets fans are screaming for Tebow. 34-0

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 19:52

No wonder the Jets fans are screaming for Tebow. 34-0

But not even he could come back from that in 5 mins. They've invested in him, why not use him to avoid a shutout?!

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 19:52

Pats have had 20 1st downs in less than a quarter and a half

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 19:53

Pats have had 20 1st downs in less than a quarter and a half

Sound like some kind of record-setting numbers

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 19:56

NE are on 31 for the game, the record if 39 - Jets '88.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 19:57

Sound like some kind of record-setting numbers

1 first down per minute is ridiculous especially as they were not just making 10 yard passes and setting up for the next one. There are 4 TDs in there so 4 times the Bills had the ball

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 19:59

1 first down per minute is ridiculous especially as they were not just making 10 yard passes and setting up for the next one. There are 4 TDs in there so 4 times the Bills had the ball

Surely they'll be on the ground now - running out the clock - chances for a few more.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 19:59

Bills score 28-42 with 6:32 to go

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 20:00

Surely they'll be on the ground now - running out the clock - chances for a few more.

You would think but when they were 35-21 up they kept passing the ball

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 20:03

Bills screwed up the onside kick Pats have the ball on Bills 48.

Brady threw a pass 1st play that was almost caught at the 22 yard line.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 20:04

Tried one running play then completed a near 20 yard pass

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 20:05

The Chargers are trying to run the clock down using the run-game, but are doing too well. They're closing in on another score.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 20:05

    Brady screaming JAGWAR JAGWAR

Wonder if that is like Eli shouting OMAHA when the play clock is almost up

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 20:07

    TD Pats

25 yard pass, diving catch, holding penalty on the defence declined

    49-28

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 20:09

I'm looking forward to Saints-Packers, but won't be able to catch it all.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 20:10

    Bills just threw another interception

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 20:10

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 20:15

Packers players in the tunnel getting organised to come out

    10 minutes to kick off

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 20:16

Pats just kicked a field goal. I totally missed that they were setting up for it

    52-28

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 20:16

Bills stadium looks about as empty as Arrowhead

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 20:17

Chiefs didn't have enough time to finish - game's up 37-20. Changing streams to the advertised game.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 20:21

    Game over 52-28

    Wow - they must have a 10min highlight-reel.

  • Kai30/09/2012 at 20:22

    Hi guys.

Just saw the end of the Atlanta, Carolina game. ATL was 1 point down & kicked a field goal with a few seconds to play to remain undefeated. Exciting end.

oh, I see there's still 5 seconds to play and the Panthers get it back, but they needed to go to the Packers game due to 'NFL rules' (?), so we won't see it.

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 20:27

Wow - was that a running play from the Packers?

No, I got the grading stuff done by staying late on Friday, so I could relax today before my long day tomorrow.

With 5 games to go they are exactly level with Baltimore. About 20 games ago they had a 9 game division lead

    TD Saints

    Crowd not happy

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 20:49

  • Kai30/09/2012 at 21:01

Good to know. I don't know any of the Saints names outside of Brees. And unfortunately I haven't watched enough this year to get to know them.

Sproles is that little 'scat-back' who used to be a Charger. He set the record last year for all-purpose yardage on offence.

Just saw the Rams fake field goal. Love it

I have no idea how that hashtag disappeared for so long when it is appropriate to so many people

  • Will^30/09/2012 at 22:04

I would have 5L on, but the golf sounds exciting atm.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 22:06

I would have 5L on, but the golf sounds exciting atm.

Given that there is so little of the golf left I have switched to it to see the finish

OK Golf over now back to proper sport

    :)

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 22:18

    :)

Europe either drew the match or won it (one game still in play) so they keep the cup. USA had to win the match to take the cup

golf over. NFL on radio. Comments closed ;) gone for real now.

This reminds me of lots of comments i have posted here

  • Noelinho30/09/2012 at 22:19

OK, got sidetracked by the golf. Loaned my iPad to my flatmate so he could watch it.

  • Noelinho30/09/2012 at 22:20

It's brilliant being able to watch two Sky channels at once :-)

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 22:21

Saints should have scored a TD there but great work by the Packers means they only get a field goal

    Saints 17 Packers 21

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 22:36

Rogers out of the game for now due to facemask penalty where a finger got in his eye.

His replacement got tripped by his own O line and turned the ball over.

  • Noelinho30/09/2012 at 22:37

Not convinced he'll be out of the game - looked precautionary to me.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 22:39

Not convinced he'll be out of the game - looked precautionary to me.

I am sure he will be back soon

  • Noelinho30/09/2012 at 22:40

Yeah, sorry - didn't see the "for now" bit!

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 22:40

Yeah, sorry - didn't see the "for now" bit!

At the time that was a guess but it now looks like he will be back

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 22:41

Saints get a touchdown. I think one of the Packers should have stuck his finger in Brees's eye to balance things out

  • Noelinho30/09/2012 at 22:41

Morgan really shouldn't have got all the way there. Fended the safeties off well.

  • Noelinho30/09/2012 at 22:48

Good pick. That was only just catchable.

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 23:17

    TD Packers

  • Noelinho30/09/2012 at 23:22

    Down by contact? ROFL!

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 23:22

    Down by contact? ROFL!

That is so far wrong it makes no sense

  • Noelinho30/09/2012 at 23:25

    What are they chanting?

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 23:25

    What are they chanting?

Not at all clear to me

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 23:28

How could Brees get the pay clock so wrong?

How can they give a penalty then say there was a time out?

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 23:34

Saints take the lead with a field goal then lose it to a holding penalty

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 23:35

Saints take the lead with a field goal then lose it to a holding penalty

Now the Packers get a 5 yard penalty

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 23:35

And after all that he misses the kick.

2:49 to go and the Packers lead by one

  • Mr C30/09/2012 at 23:37

How can they give a penalty then say there was a time out?

is it still the sub refs?

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 23:38

is it still the sub refs?

No. The proper refs are back for the first time. When they came on the field at the start of the game the Packers fans gave them a huge cheer. They are not going to get one as they leve though

  • Noelinho30/09/2012 at 23:40

Sorry, not paying so much attention as I'm dealing with a really weird webpage issue :-/

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 23:41

    What a catch

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 23:43

Packers take the win. It looked like they were going to lose for a long time.

  • Mr C30/09/2012 at 23:44

No. The proper refs are back for the first time. When they came on the field at the start of the game the Packers fans gave them a huge cheer. They are not going to get one as they leve though

    a bit rusty then?

I have code that's exactly the same on two pages, yet shows different results :-/

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 23:45

    a bit rusty then?

I can't explain some of the things they did but it makes a lot of the 'experts' who have been slaughtering the stand ins look really stupid

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 23:45

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 23:51

Billy Cundiff - not a guy you'd want to rely on.

I don't know why they ran the time down. Take the time out immediately and you have time to scrub the first attempt and go again

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 23:51

    Straight down the middle

  • Noelinho30/09/2012 at 23:51

  • Noelinho30/09/2012 at 23:52

I don't know why they ran the time down. Take the time out immediately and you have time to scrub the first attempt and go again

You don't get two attempts at a field goal, do you?

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 23:52

Well, as middle as he ever gets!

There may have been a little poetic licence. Nearly hit the left hand post doesn't sound as good

  • Steven Roy30/09/2012 at 23:53

You don't get two attempts at a field goal, do you?

You can run it as a dummy play and spike it I suppose

  • Noelinho30/09/2012 at 23:53

    whitespace issue then?

Don't think so. It's really strange.

  • Noelinho30/09/2012 at 23:54

You can run it as a dummy play and spike it I suppose

no time - need c.17 seconds to get the field goal unit on.

It should be a good old fashioned rivalry game.

I have watched quite a few games so far but I haven't really paid any attention to the teams I have not seen

Even when I QB I don't like runs, like Vick, I still get nervous for him.

  • Kai01/10/2012 at 01:14

At least he is used to running. Brady almost ran in for TD earlier. He has no idea how to protect himself because he never runs

    massive comeback!

Went from 21-7 to 21-42 before Buffalo scored another point. They manage 20 1st downs in 22 minutes and the opposition was on the field four times during that

  • Kai01/10/2012 at 01:40

Clever to practice playing against the Giants by using paddles with the QB to simulate their big ole mitts. :)

  • Steven Roy01/10/2012 at 01:45

I think that spot is wrong. He had to be out of bounds before the 1st down marker

They have gone a long way up the park running the ball but their passing game is not working

tv screen comparing players who favour twitter over facebook.

    twitter won

  • Steven Roy02/10/2012 at 01:29

f1 has never felt so out of touch...

It is quite incredible. And to think F1 makets itself as high tech when it is years out of date

  • Mr C02/10/2012 at 01:31

  • Mr C02/10/2012 at 01:33

btw, the nfl site is miles ahead of the tv feed. no idea why the bbc are so far behind but i may have to stop using it tonight.

I haven't been checking the site but the game started on TV well after the listed kick off time. Not that you can always go by that for American events

  • Steven Roy02/10/2012 at 01:35

Going by my first comment the kick off we saw was 12 minutes late.

  • Mr C02/10/2012 at 01:35

the field goal score appeared and they were still passing the ball around on tv. at least we're both in sync ;0

  • Mr C02/10/2012 at 01:35

ooh blimey. it felt more like 3-4 mins.

  • Steven Roy02/10/2012 at 01:37

ooh blimey. it felt more like 3-4 mins.

The published kick off time was 1:30am and my first comment was 1:42 saying it had just kicked off. American kick offs and race start times are never as cut and dried as you expect. They have to allow for someone taking 20 minutes to mangle the national anthem

  • Mr C02/10/2012 at 01:37

    hehee

  • Mr C02/10/2012 at 01:38

    whoooops!

  • Steven Roy02/10/2012 at 01:39

    Now that was messy

  • Mr C02/10/2012 at 01:39

    omg!

  • Mr C02/10/2012 at 01:39

    what the?!

  • Steven Roy02/10/2012 at 01:40

Cowboys shot themselves in the foot

  • Steven Roy02/10/2012 at 01:50

Wonder if the Cowboys will manage to get 7 points back before half time. Just as likely to lose 7 I suppose

    Made it.

  • Mr C02/10/2012 at 01:53

    impressive

  • Steven Roy02/10/2012 at 01:53

It was a one shot deal. If they had not scored they would have had to use their last time out and kick a field goal

  • Mr C02/10/2012 at 01:53

heck of leap to make it happen.
