We’ve now reached the sharp end of the season – where certain key results will start to seal teams’ playoff places. The Chicago Bears are looking for a healthy again Jay Cutler to keep them in pole-position in their division as they travel to the Seattle Seahawks (1800 – Sky Sports). A win for the Baltimore Ravens and they will clinch a playoff berth (together with a loss for the Bengals and they’ll take the AFC North title); they are hosted by the Pittsburgh Steelers (2125 – Sky Sports). The final 2 matches of come straight out of the NFC East: Late on Sunday, the slumping Philadelphia Eagles will give recovering Mike Vick 2 flack-jackets so that he can try to play at the Dallas Cowboys (0120 Mon am – C4). On Monday night the New York Giants, who have recently been mediocre by their standards, take on the Washington Redskins, who are starting to make their own late bid for the post-season (0130 Tues am – BBC).

Anyone here or is everyone in the hangout?

I'd say Hangout, waiting for the KOs.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 17:51

what game are we all watching?

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 17:52

Well my interest is in the Texans - Titans game though I'll prob have Sky Sports or Red Zone.

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 17:52

    SS has Bears-Seahawks on first.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 17:53

    TExans should win that one.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 17:53

Id be curious about Vikings at Packers too.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 17:54

    Im hungry.

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 17:59

    Im hungry.

I'm still finishing up last night's Pizza Hut :)

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 18:00

I'm still finishing up last night's Pizza Hut :)

I ate so much pizza Friday night while playing poker at a friends place...I was still stuffed until yesterday afternoon.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 18:01

Well yeah we should. It'll seal our playoff spot though, and a bit of history between the teams.

Just about to order a domino's.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 18:01

I used to be a Titans fan, but after they got rid of Fisher I kind of lost interest in them.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 18:01

Fisher's son played college ball for the University I work at.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 18:03

    Bears with a sack.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 18:05

    Nice conversion for Seattle.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 18:09

    Touchdown Houston. 7-0

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 18:12

What game are you watching Will?

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 18:14

What game are you watching Will?

I usually watch the one on SS (even though I have no ties to). Should I change?

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 18:14

    Oh I was just curious.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 18:14

So that is the Seattle one?

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 18:14

I'm actually watching SS, but am keeping a close eye on the NFL website.

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 18:14

So that is the Seattle one?

    Yeah.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 18:15

    Ok..

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 18:15

So I've got Seattle - Chicago on too.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 18:15

I just figured if there was interest in some other game I could change too.

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 18:15

    Ok..

I'll generally watch the one's that are on British TV (that I've set up ^^), unless the Chargers are on and I'm in the mood to be humiliated - as is the norm nowadays.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 18:16

Someone mentioned Vikings @ GB... that's 7-0 to the Packers at the mo.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 18:17

Someone mentioned Vikings @ GB... that's 7-0 to the Packers at the mo.

I was just interested because of the rivalry..thanks

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 18:18

Field Goal for the Oilers Titans. 7-3 to Houston.

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 18:20

    Bears TD upheld. 7-0

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 18:29

    Packers now 10-0 up.

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 18:29

Bears try their hardest to muff a punt and lose it on their own 10.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 18:29

Bears try their hardest to muff a punt and lose it on their own 10.

Refs will do their best to ensure the Bears get to keep it.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 18:38

    Are Seattle's two corners out(suspended)?

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 18:41

Titans punt... to put the Texans on the Titans 20 yard line. Oops.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 18:42

It is really challenging to try to type on here with a pug that insists on sleeping on your lap.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 18:42

Titans punt... to put the Texans on the Titans 20 yard line. Oops.

Assuming the website graphic is right...

It is really challenging to try to type on here with a pug that insists on sleeping on your lap.

At least it's not a cat who's on the keys. (Will probably end up with one of those later.)

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 18:43

Bears have a 4th and inches and are trying it...

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 18:44

    Seattle stop: Turnover on downs

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 18:44

Texans 4th and 1 on the Titans 11... Timeout.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 18:46

Texans also played, 1st and goal on the Titans 5.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 18:46

    ...and Touchdown.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 18:51

Think I'll run to the grocery store at halftime.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 19:05

That was a nice run after the catch.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 19:07

    Vikings scored...

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 19:07

    Took the lead.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 19:10

Interception! Texans @ Titans. Again, practically on the Titans goal line. This could be emphatic...

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 19:12

Touchdown, now 20-3 to Houston before the attempt at the extra point.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 19:13

Patriots have a nice lead over Dolphins too.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 19:13

    So tired of the Patriots.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 19:21

    So tired of the Patriots.

    Can't blame you.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 19:24

    TD Seattle!

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 19:25

    Thats going to get overturned.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 19:26

    maybe..

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 19:26

It has been, so nfl site says.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 19:28

    Meh.

  • jwcrummett02/12/2012 at 19:28

Ok, I'll be back in a few.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 20:00

    2nd down and TWENTY EIGHT?

  • Steven Roy02/12/2012 at 20:10

The Jets just benched Sanchez and went to a QB I have never heard of. What about Tebow?

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 20:11

    Timmy is Inactive today

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 20:12

    Tebow has fractured ribs.

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 20:12

Strange thing is that he was active despite that last week/

  • Steven Roy02/12/2012 at 20:15

Strange thing is that he was active despite that last week/

Either his ribs got worse or his game got weirder

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 20:16

A couple of low scoring games today...

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 20:17

The number of people who have all season long been clamouring for Teee-bow, and he's not around to be thrown in. Irony

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 20:25

How dare this new Jets QB actually give them the lead.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 21:00

The Chiefs have won a game O.o

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 21:02

    What. A. Week.

  • Steven Roy02/12/2012 at 21:04

The Chiefs have won a game O.o

They had some extra motivation today

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 21:05

    What. A. Week.

Yeah, just a bit... Insignificant in the shadow of yesterday's events, but still.

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 21:06

Yeah, just a bit... Insignificant in the shadow of yesterday's events, but still.

Completely. Wouldn't wish it on anybody. Huge respect for them being able to put today together.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 21:11

    Patriots have clinched AFC East.

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 21:11

    Patriots have clinched AFC East.

    Not totally surprising this season.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 21:13

Texans now certain of at least a wildcard berth, can't clinch AFC South at moment as yet to play the Colts (weeks 15 & 17)

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 21:20

    Seahawks TD in OT

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 21:22

That looks like it should stand to me.

  • Steven Roy02/12/2012 at 21:22

    Seahawks TD in OT

Bears defence was shattered on that drive. Seahawks QB ran for two first downs which is always a usefule thing to have

  • Steven Roy02/12/2012 at 21:23

That looks like it should stand to me.

    Me too.

The hit was out of order though I thought. He seemed to try to take his head off

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 21:23

    NFL Drive chart reporting UPHELD.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 21:23

    Indeed, game over.

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 21:25

Well I'm switching on the Chargers game, and trying to follow the Ravens at the same time.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 21:33

Colts steal a win at Detroit with the last play.

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 21:33

Colts steal a win at Detroit with the last play.

    Sounds like an MVP performance.

  • Steven Roy02/12/2012 at 21:53

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 21:53

    Yeppers :)

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 21:53

Jets benched Sanchez, but still didn't play Tebow?

    Broken ribs, inactive.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 21:54

Jets benched Sanchez, but still didn't play Tebow?

    Tebow's inactive.

  • Steven Roy02/12/2012 at 21:54

Jets benched Sanchez, but still didn't play Tebow?

We had that conversation a while ago. Inactive due to rib injuries

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)02/12/2012 at 21:55

Did wonder if that might be the case still. How long's he out for? And when'd it happen?

  • Steven Roy02/12/2012 at 21:55

Did wonder if that might be the case still. How long's he out for? And when'd it happen?

    No idea

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 21:56

Did wonder if that might be the case still. How long's he out for? And when'd it happen?

Dunno how long ago/he'll be out. He was hurting at least last week but still active.

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)02/12/2012 at 21:58

Anyone watching anything other than the Charlie Batch losing show?

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 21:59

Anyone watching anything other than the Charlie Batch losing show?

The Phil Rivers why do I even bother doing this to myself show

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)02/12/2012 at 21:59

Also, great to see the Pats win without obliterating the opposition on points.

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)02/12/2012 at 21:59

The Phil Rivers why do I even bother doing this to myself show

Which begs the question, why do you bother!?

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 22:04

Which begs the question, why do you bother!?

Loyalty, plus I start each game with an amount of optimism (although the level of that is reducing by the game) believing that the OLine will hold, and that the receivers will make plays, and that Rivers won't bottle it.

    But I like the D - esp when they give you pick6s!!!! 7-9 :)

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 22:08

    Play stands, XPT good, 7-10.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 22:21

"CLINCHED: The Texans have clinched the AFC South title and a playoff berth."

^ How long do you give the NFL webmasters to realise that's wrong?

  • Steven Roy02/12/2012 at 22:22

^ How long do you give the NFL webmasters to realise that's wrong?

Give them a few days to think about it. You would think that sort of thing would be identified automatically

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 22:22

^ How long do you give the NFL webmasters to realise that's wrong?

    D'oh

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 22:23

Texans have a wildcard place guaranteed, but they're 11-1, Colts still 8-4 and we play each other TWICE before the end of the season. AFC South isn't settled just yet.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 22:45

They've fixed it, though it still shows Colts 7-4 rather than 8-4. They'll fix that quickly enough though.

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 22:58

    Steelers 6 - 13 Ravens (HALF)

    Bengals 10 - 13 Chargers (HALF)

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)02/12/2012 at 23:03

I'm only following the Sky game this week. Playing Far Cry 3 at the same time, it's my limit :-)

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)02/12/2012 at 23:09

Blimey, we've actually got a game on here. Didn't really expect that.

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 23:17

Blimey, we've actually got a game on here. Didn't really expect that.

    2x poor offences?

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 23:17

Chargers pick of Andy Dalton again.

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)02/12/2012 at 23:24

BTW, if the Pats beat the Texans next week, they are #1 seed in the AFC, aren't they?

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 23:26

BTW, if the Pats beat the Texans next week, they are #1 seed in the AFC, aren't they?

No, as Texans will have a better win/loss record. It'd be only the Texans 2nd defeat.

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 23:27

Yeah - I was going to suggest it would go on record after week 17.

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)02/12/2012 at 23:27

    Oh, FAIL.

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 23:28

We've only lost to the Packers so far. ;)

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)02/12/2012 at 23:28

Oh, I thought they lost today. Confused them with San Fran.

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)02/12/2012 at 23:29

Tell you what, that'll be a cracker of a game next week. It will give people a really clear indication of just how good they are.

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 23:30

The Bengals are turnover happy tonight - could've lost a Fumble, but was called back for a penalty on the QB, on the next play actually losing a Fumble.

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)02/12/2012 at 23:35

    TD Ravens

  • Steven Roy02/12/2012 at 23:35

    Great run by Rice

  • Steven Roy02/12/2012 at 23:53

Great time to get an interception

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)02/12/2012 at 23:53

Ed Reed should never have got past the 5.

  • Will^02/12/2012 at 23:55

With the Ravens winning, and the Chargers just about holding the Bengals atm, Baltimore should take the division

  • Jay (@burwellian)02/12/2012 at 23:57

With the Ravens winning, and the Chargers just about holding the Bengals atm, Baltimore should take the division

Indeed, and the Denver score would give them AFC West and give Falcons the NFC South.

  • Will^03/12/2012 at 00:01

Won't that be all the possible 'clinches' achieved?

  • Jay (@burwellian)03/12/2012 at 00:02

Won't that be all the possible 'clinches' achieved?

Believe so. Which beats last weeks 0/1 possible clinches.

  • Will^03/12/2012 at 00:05

Just saw the Steelers game-tieing TD - nice moves.

  • Will^03/12/2012 at 00:12

    Bengals TD. Now lead 17-13

  • Jay (@burwellian)03/12/2012 at 00:13

    Bengals TD. Now lead 17-13

Which would give Baltimore a wildcard spot minimum but not their division yet.

  • Jay (@burwellian)03/12/2012 at 00:14

Assuming of course that they beat the Steelers. Which I just noticed they aren't.

  • Steven Roy03/12/2012 at 00:15

This season hardly seems to have started and already play off places are being decided

  • Will^03/12/2012 at 00:16

Only 4 more reg sea weeks after this one

  • Will^03/12/2012 at 00:18

Rivers fumbles on the edge of the Chargers RZ - they won't come back from this almost inevitable score.

  • Steven Roy03/12/2012 at 00:18

Only 4 more reg sea weeks after this one

It's amazing how quickly it has gone. I guess because I haven't been watching just as closely this year

  • Steven Roy03/12/2012 at 00:21

Peyton Manning has done a far better job with the Broncos than I ever expected

  • Jay (@burwellian)03/12/2012 at 00:21

Final in Denver, both they and the Falcons have indeed wrapped their divisions up.

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)03/12/2012 at 00:22

That's a really dumb roughing penalty

  • Steven Roy03/12/2012 at 00:22

That's a really dumb roughing penalty

    Beyond stupid

  • Jay (@burwellian)03/12/2012 at 00:23

Falcons won and needed a Tampa Bay loss or tie, which Denver have duly provided. Denver needed a win, which they got, or a Chargers loss, which they may get as well anyway.

  • Will^03/12/2012 at 00:24

    Only a CIN FG 20-13.

    1 possession game, 2:27.

  • Steven Roy03/12/2012 at 00:27

Steelers make the FG and take the win

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)03/12/2012 at 00:27

Steelers make the FG and take the win

    Balls, hadn't quite got there!

  • Jay (@burwellian)03/12/2012 at 00:28

Ravens have to wait til next week then, and fail their clinch.

  • Will^03/12/2012 at 00:28

    Balls, hadn't quite got there!

Wow - 50 year-old Charlie Batch against their huge rivals.

  • Jay (@burwellian)03/12/2012 at 00:32

Ravens slip to 9-3 but think they remain 2nd seeds as it stands because they beat Patriots 30-31 in week 3?

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)03/12/2012 at 00:32

Ravens slip to 9-3 but think they remain 2nd seeds as it stands because they beat Patriots 30-31 in week 3?

But it's irrelevant if you don't win your division.

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)03/12/2012 at 00:32

    Scrap that, brain fade.

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)03/12/2012 at 00:33

    Yes.

  • Jay (@burwellian)03/12/2012 at 00:34

Their nearest rivals for the division are the Steelers on 7-5, but aye.

  • Will^03/12/2012 at 00:34

    Chargers have 4th-&-10 on 17. :55... down by 7.

  • Will^03/12/2012 at 00:34

Cinci could be 7-5 also, rather soon.

  • Jay (@burwellian)03/12/2012 at 00:35

    Yep.

  • Will^03/12/2012 at 00:35

    INT - Touchback.

  • Will^03/12/2012 at 00:36

Game over. Cinci do go 7-5. That division is hotting up.

  • Will^03/12/2012 at 00:38

That's me for the evening. Enjoy the late game.

Since I wrote that ^^, pretty sure Mike Vick hasn't passed his concussion test, so you'll not be seeing him under centre.
