The buildup to this Olympics Games has seemed endless, but it has finally arrived, and with it comes the Opening Ceremony. Film director Danny Boyle has been overseeing the spectacle about to unfold before us and although I've personally tried to avoid spoilers, I do know there has been talk of sheep and rain clouds. There will be the lighting of the flame, no doubt plenty of dancing and perhaps even an athlete or two. Grab your snacks and settle in as the world tunes in to the opening of the 2012 Summer Games.

I can't see the tv from the computer so iPad commenting is going to be hard on two things at once!

  • Will^27/07/2012 at 18:30

I like Gary, he's a good presenter in my book

No arguements - I do like him, but would've liked somebody in a more traditional Olympic Sport - I've no suggestions though ;)

  • Amy27/07/2012 at 18:30

On the snacks front I have a bag of chips, a bag of kitkat balls and a bottle of apple tango. I conquered the co-op.

  • Lukeh27/07/2012 at 18:37

Is that 1 or 2, do we think?

Tomorrow is day 1 (of competition)

This is what I was thinking.

  • Simon27/07/2012 at 18:38

    But we've had football already???

  • Pat W27/07/2012 at 18:39

Hello. I'm now home, wishing I was still in London.. thankful I had the chance to go and see it all decked out for the Olympics and see the torch.

I went for a walk today and lots of people were on London Bridge saying the torch was passing on the river soon, I spent 15 minutes of my precious present-buying time waiting for it only for the cops to tell us it had already been! Didn't get the present.. but I'll pick up a bottle of Port or something tomorrow. Rushing about looking for things I did have to rush to Waterloo and missed my train, my fault, also partly the fault of the tube.

On the snacks from I will have Doritos and dip but I was considering what to have for dinner first.

I turned the TV on and Huw Edwards was walking in the stadium spoiling things, so I'm watching C4 News instead. Ban-Ki Moon was on, apparently he carried the torch earlier!

  • Amy27/07/2012 at 18:39

This is what I was thinking.

as sidepodcast Olympic correspondent I call tomorrow day 1

  • Amy27/07/2012 at 18:40

surely, after seeing lazenby's attempts, he's a presenting god.

somehow I don't even see Simon when I watch sky. It's like he's not there.

  • Christine27/07/2012 at 18:52

Two Olympicses ago, I had a giant world map on the wall and learnt where lots of places I hadn't heard of before were. The Olympics = geography lesson. I miss my map.

Say it quietly, but I'm looking forward to this. Although I am annoyed the first proper mess up of the games happened at Newcastle.

I'm still hoping for Jonathan Edwards or... umm.... someone else from the north east, to light the flame.

  • Steven Roy27/07/2012 at 21:20

I wonder when this country will join this century. First they cut of Springsteen and McCartney because some jobsworth decided rules is rules. Now they are shortening this to suit a pre-existing train timetable.

    Utter madness

  • Lukeh27/07/2012 at 21:20

    Another thought too

Sir Danny Boyle following the Olympics?

Did we run out of British bands?

  • lou27/07/2012 at 22:45

I'm going to try hit up all of them. Think isner/Roddick is my favourite of the three

I'll be happy to watch any of them, im so excited. Hoping if i arrive at the gates just after they open i'll get in in time for 11:30...

  • Amy27/07/2012 at 22:46

Ahha :) (That also explains why I don't know him *ducks again*)

roger was meant to be the flag bearer but then he thought "I've done it twice and I couldn't have won gold without him so he should do it this time"

i love Sir Paul.. but i didn't want it to have a predictable ending like him. :)

  • Ryan27/07/2012 at 23:40

The ending was almost perfect... and then they got him in.

  • Amy27/07/2012 at 23:41

i love Sir Paul.. but i didn't want it to have a predictable ending like him. :)

being on the other side of the world I'm not sure I've ever seen him close anything so it works for non UK people at least!

  • Pat W27/07/2012 at 23:41

He should've closed the closing ceremony with this :)

  • Steven Roy27/07/2012 at 23:41

Every time he closes a big event the sound fails. He did the same with Live Aid

  • Lukeh27/07/2012 at 23:42

Every time he closes a big event the sound fails. He did the same with Live Aid

live 8 was a bit dodgy too.

can't think of anyone better to be honest. not sure the song is very olympian though.

  • Steven Roy27/07/2012 at 23:42

can't think of anyone better to be honest. not sure the song is very olympian though.

He wrote it for Julian Lennon to cheer him up about something. Not sure the relevance here

  • Christine27/07/2012 at 23:42

Mostly whenever they bring out Paul for some kind of 'yay we're British' thing, I just think I'm glad it's not Cliff.

  • Mr C27/07/2012 at 23:43

Mostly whenever they bring out Paul for some kind of 'yay we're British' thing, I just think I'm glad it's not Cliff.

  • Pat W27/07/2012 at 23:43

He wrote it for Julian Lennon to cheer him up about something. Not sure the relevance here

It's only the na-na-na-na and the building crescendo, not the lyrics.

They have to play the Muse song though? It's the official song.

  • RocketRedhead27/07/2012 at 23:44

tenner says he's there though :)

no he'll be at the tennis tomorrow!

  • Steven Roy27/07/2012 at 23:45

I wonder if the sound is bad because he is actually doing it live

  • Mr C27/07/2012 at 23:45

He wrote it for Julian Lennon to cheer him up about something. Not sure the relevance here

come together was a better choice, but they gave that to someone who a one hit wonder who hasn't seen the top 40 in 5 years. odd.

  • Turkey Machine27/07/2012 at 23:45

NO! I hope they are not saving Cliff for the closing ceremony. I am going to worry until the end now

  • Amy27/07/2012 at 23:47

That side shot of the cauldron looks like the picture on the closing ceremony tickets.

IT WAS ON BOTH OF THEM. Mind explode.

    no muse then?.. :)

You'll be hearing them everywhere else ;)
