The early stages of the championship return to Group A, as everyone has now had a turn out on the pitch and gets a second chance at success. First up, Greece take on the Czech Republic. Greeze faced off Poland in their first game and managed to take the hosts to a 1-all draw. The Czech Republic were not so fortunate, losing 4-1 in their first match to Russia. They're sitting bottom of the Group A table with a lot of work to do, but notably, Greece have only lost one of their last 20+ matches.

Hi all. I have to go for a run, but then I might be tuning in to this. The Greece team do have awesome names!

  • jwcrummett12/06/2012 at 15:43

Ok, I'm going to listen for the commentators' names on espn this time.

    have to?

  • jwcrummett12/06/2012 at 15:44

Yeah, I think watching people run accomplishes the same.

  • Christine12/06/2012 at 15:46

    have to?

    My app says so :)

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 15:47

They're all the same aren't they? Papadopoulos to Papadopoulos to Papastahapaodopopulos

  • jwcrummett12/06/2012 at 15:54

There was a Socrates too, but I think he is out due to red card.

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 15:54

First married tiff (for those watching a UK stream)?

  • Jay12/06/2012 at 15:55

Like the subtle checkered pattern to the Czech shirt. Pretty much all I like about it, but meh.

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 15:57

Tonight's commentators: ESPN: Adrian Healey and Robbie Mustoe

ITV: Jon Champion and Craig Burley (Sound about right?)

  • Ryan12/06/2012 at 15:58

    "red" card.

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 15:59

That Greek bench looks tasty. Meze anyone?

  • Jay12/06/2012 at 16:00

ITV: Jon Champion and Craig Burley (Sound about right?)

Def correct for the ITV team.

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 16:02

Didn't take long for the opener!

  • Jay12/06/2012 at 16:02

    Well that took long...

  • Ryan12/06/2012 at 16:03

The worst ones are the ones where you get a hand to them.

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 16:03

If they continue at this rate (goal every 3 minutes) it could be 30-0 - worth a bet?

  • Jay12/06/2012 at 16:05

Well against Popadopalopolos, etc... I wouldn't be amazed if the Czechs score a few. Don't think it'll be 30 mind!

  • Ryan12/06/2012 at 16:05

If they continue at this rate (goal every 3 minutes) it could be 30-0 - worth a bet?

    It is now.

  • Jay12/06/2012 at 16:05

    2-0

  • Jay12/06/2012 at 16:06

    Easy! Easy! Easy! >_>

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 16:06

The make-shift defence really isn't making do!

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 16:06

    Cue bad fiscal jokes

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 16:10

Do you reckon by the time Christine gets back the goals will've dried up?

  • Jay12/06/2012 at 16:10

    Probably. :p

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 16:14

At this rate Greece are going to be out of the Euro in 2012. And they're not going to qualify for the next stage of the football either.

  • Pat W12/06/2012 at 16:22

Evening. Seems this one is a formality then..

  • Jay12/06/2012 at 16:23

They just made a joke about bouncing czechs... Oh dear.

  • Ryan12/06/2012 at 16:23

Oh come on, I used to stay on the pitch when we were getting thrashed all the time.

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 16:31

During that Greek free-kick, I felt sure that there was going to be a joke about walls - suggesting a horse might be the favoured tactic.

  • Christine12/06/2012 at 16:33

Do you reckon by the time Christine gets back the goals will've dried up?

You mean it's not Steven arriving, it's me not being here? Oh noes!

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 16:39

You mean it's not Steven arriving, it's me not being here? Oh noes!

Don't feel that if the later game is dull, you have to go for another run - that wouldn't be fair.

  • Ryan12/06/2012 at 16:39

Don't feel that if the later game is dull, you have to go for another run - that wouldn't be fair.

Seeing what's going down in Warsaw right now, I'm thinking it won't be dull...

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 16:41

The Czechs were defending heavily there - see the number of red shirts in the box, but that was soo close

  • Mr C12/06/2012 at 16:41

    hey all, good game?

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 16:42

Seeing what's going down in Warsaw right now, I'm thinking it won't be dull...

Ohh yeah - the amount of non-footballing history means later will be heated!

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 16:42

    hey all, good game?

    For the Czechs, yes.

  • Ryan12/06/2012 at 16:42

    hey all, good game?

The first five minutes were brilliant... the other 38.... less so.

  • Mr C12/06/2012 at 16:44

    For the Czechs, yes.

    :)

  • Mr C12/06/2012 at 16:45

    rats.

What are the chances of us hearing analysis of this match, rather than it being another recap of England's tournament?

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 16:56

2 nice goals - the defence let them pay around / through them. #statues

  • Mr C12/06/2012 at 17:08

What are the chances of us hearing analysis of this match, rather than it being another recap of England's tournament?

ask yourself, what would england have done?

  • Pat W12/06/2012 at 17:10

    Hah, silly mistake.

  • Ryan12/06/2012 at 17:10

    The ball bounced funny.

Do you think that Roman Abramovitch has told him to help Russia qualify for the next stages?

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 17:13

    #butterfingers

  • jwcrummett12/06/2012 at 17:16

  • Mr C12/06/2012 at 17:48

    poor cross.

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 17:59

Looks like the Czechs did what had to be done - break Greece down, get a cushion and the control the game (apart from the brief slip).

  • Jay12/06/2012 at 18:01

...while the Greeks made a bid to Czech out of the tournament.

  • Jay12/06/2012 at 18:01

    Sorry :p

  • Will^12/06/2012 at 18:02

Next thing you know, they'll be asking UEFA for a points bail-out in a bid to qualify.

  • Christine12/06/2012 at 18:05

Another match, you say? Don't mind if I do! http://sidepodcast.com/event/poland-vs-russia-group-2012-uefa-european-football-championship
