These evenings at Wimbledon have been turning into late ones, as the roof now allows players to keep on keeping on until the very last minute. Still, that has allowed the organiser to catch up a little after all the rain delays, and that means we've got more good matches in store today. Federer and Murray should both make an appearance on Centre Court (not against each other), whilst Tsonga and Djokovic will be on Court 1 (again, not against each other). Elsewhere, there's an awful lot of doubles going on - they aren't really my thing, but do keep lots of players off the streets!
Day 9 at Wimbledon

*pokes today's wiimbledon thread*
anyone around for roger?
am around, but not really for roger :)
federer off to a very comfortable start, but djokovic serve broken early by mayer
he won't be too offended :)
i was expecting to be super busy all day, but this morning I've cleaned my car, done the washing, done my ironing and changed my bedsheets. so i'm rewarding a productive last morning off work with tennis!
djokovic breaks back
oooh roy hodgson's in the royal box. and parky!
apparently kate and wills are in there somewhere too but I haven't seen them.
raining heavily now, the covers are coming over.
rain time
not sure why they didnt start with the roof closed knowing there would be a big chance of rain
it's a good point. sue barker making the point Wimbledon is an 'outdoor' tournament so starting with a roof defeats that point, but surely it's for the better,
yeah they knew the rain was coming and surely playing now instead of going off midway through the first set is the better option.
at least the covers are coming off now
awesome productivity. no work today?
like this wimbledon insight from ESPN - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fi-sMhVZv0o
my last day off my goodwood holiday before i head back. Making the most of it :)
you certainly are :)
they have a great view!
they have a bunker :) :)
i think we know where christine's favourite bit of wimbledon is.
nice, never knew where the commentary box (bunker) is but now watching the federer match i can see it just next to the scoreboard, not a bad spot to watch some tennis
I missed the start of tennis because I was having a drink with my tennis friends while discussing tennis. Glad to see Roger had everything under control in my absence.
he has been in good roger mode so far today
I hate this obsession they have with it being "outdoors" they're really big stadiums, its not like they close the roof and you feel like you're in someones living room. Sure, its not windy anymore, but its not that different. No one whines when they close the AO roof about how its suddenly indoors.
As far as I see it, it is a grass tournament. The match is still being played on grass. What's the problem?
In todays tennis news Rafa has tendinitis of the knee, again, so is going to rest up for the Olympics so has cancelled a charity match he had scheduled with Novak.
yeah it shouldnt make too much of a difference.
based on all these rain delays and the fact our first Olympic event is only 3 weeks away I think packing my wellies for the UK has been a good decision, I doubt the weather can drastically improve in that time.
yeah id say there is a fair chance of rain....... might get abit lucky though, it has to improve some time soon
Bring a brolly too :)
that never leaves my handbag. stupid melbourne.
it's just preparing you for our awesome summer again.
I like how the umpire in the Federer match speaks :)
I spot wills and kate
hilarious, asking agassi what he should do...
I need to do a Lukeh and change my bedsheets. Chop chop Rog.
woah, wait a minute, it couldnt be, it is ........... sun
Doctor Tennis is getting hammered. I guess its a good day at the office if hes not bleeding though.
the doctor is out
easy for federer really!
sets up a semi v djokovic
no surprises there!
yeah should be a cracking match, really 50-50 not sure who would go in favourite
Amazed roger and novak have never played each other at wimbledon.
during the times that Novaks been good Roger has kept losing in the QFs. Damn Roger.
when Rogers back was wonky the other day my friend tweeted this article from 9 years ago:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/tennis/wimbledon/2406949/Federer-through-despite-back-injury.html#
so weird to think of a time when Roger had no slams and when there had been no Spanish quarter finalist for 31 years.
quite cool that all 4 left in that half of the draw haven't been in the final before so regardless of who wins today and in the semis we'll have a new finalist.
oooh i love it when that happens. it;s like when someone new is on the podium!
its been that kind of year.
how is murray going to go with the pressure?
slightly off topic but amy you might like to know that the IOC have uploaded an official 'video' with survival to youtube - it has instigated an argument between muse fans about the song being about the olympics :D
hoping he performs less like he did against bagdahtis and more like he did against cilic!
ahh i saw a rip of that from the bbc a while back, i think it goes really really well with all the sports clips!
agreed!
ferrer's started stronger.
flicked over to the tsonga match, i think that might go to the 5th set, somethings telling me it will be a tight one
I love Dahveeeed
the scud is there
how about those people sitting basically on the court, between the ball boy and the scoreboard, were they there for rogers match, a pretty handy spot to watch from
come on ferrer, sort it out
"come on agassi"?!
wooo! that's more like it :)
booo back on serves now
tsonga takes the firs set
how are they still playing the first set? they were plaing this ages ago before i got distracted by stupid olympics sales
Andy gets the first set after it lasting forever
Oops, ferrer even. Must wake up.
nice one down two to go, come on ferrer
right, i have installed an extension to let me know if my tickets pages change so i can actually pay attention to this match again.
stupid ferrer.
the olympics are such attention seekers, you're trying to watch the tennis and it still tries to drag you away. psh :)
there were affordable opening ceremony tickets on sale for a second and by the time i added them to my basket they were gone :( it took about half an hour for my heart to stop racing.
That's quite evil. Booo ticketing process.
It's surprisingly sunny now in wimbledon it seems.
they also had tickets to 5 of the 9 cycling sessions, but the only one that was for a session i could go to was $680. I swear they hate me!
yessssssssssssss! ferrer your BP conversion rate is rubbish.
hmmmm andy needs to get himself sorted and bre... oh wait, what am I saying? it's andy murray and it;s wimbledon, of course it needs to be made difficult and go to 5 sets ;)
oh these late nights and early starts are starting to take its toll, looks like i might be late for work tomorrow....... again
i was meant to be training someone tomorrow but i cancelled it haha
andy breaks ferrer, phew!
supporting opposite sides, this must be good practice for our football visit
nice, im sure they would understand.
oh now murray broke back, geez im just trying to hold on till this set ends.
i trained him today too and i think he got bored. i'm a terrible teacher. i prefer to hand someone my typed up manual of 'how to be amy' haha
I'm getting my football voice ready
"are you 'aving a laugh?!"
"the referee's a very silly person"
"goodness, new zealand are doing awfully well. I am starting to regret my choice of birthplace"
:D
this feels like the longest match ever ans we're only in the 2nd set
also just noticed tsonga lost the 2nd set, silly boy.
come on dahveeeeed
grrrrrr
neither player is making this easy :)
come on ferrer, oh this keeps dragging on, next point and i can sleep
so annoying to hold a mini break for that long then lose it when all you have to do is serve out two points.
I'm starting to become convinced they're doing this just to keep you awake john!
WOO!
booooourns
woo-urns!
boooo indeed.... tv off, remote thrown, alarm put forward a few minutes, eyes shut, hopefully i can awake to good news.
cheers
night john!
murrays already had 3 chances to win a slam, he should let dahveeed have a turn :P
right Lukeh, time for me to abandon you too *yawn* goodnight!
night amy, I shall keep doing an excellent job supporting murray for you ;)
tsonga wins the 3rd set, woohoo!
I'm zoning out so much at times. Just been sitting here with the laptop thinking to myself 'wait, why am I not watching the tennis?' to realise the news had been on for 10 minutes...
Murray breaks Ferrer in the 3rd set, serving for the set now.. he's looking more focused than earlier on too.
Fantastic service game!!
2-1 to Murray. Woop!
Tsonga's in the semi finals! Murray vs tsonga would be a great semi final...
That would be! I am loathe to put the tennis on thanks to my ability to jinx performance.
The good thing about it is though it helps work out who to put money on to win :)
:)
looking a little more cloudy now. shoo, dark clouds!
Last week, I thought Wimbledon was doing really weel in terms of rain but this week has been a bit much!
Even for wimbledon's standards it's been something else. I'm surprised they're still on schedule.
it's like spa came over here for a holiday at times
Mum just asked me how andy is doing against Federer. I told her he's playing Ferrer, not Federer. Her reply?
"Ferrer? As in Ferrero Rocher?"
So there we go.
Your mum is awesome.
I said something to Lou last week about something she said and lou commented on how when I do my mum's voice I sound like Sarah Millican. Clearly that's where she gets her funny from!
Hehehe!
Ohh andy, that could've been perfect chance to break ferrer if it wasn't so long.
followed up by a perfectly placed lob. typical :)
So, I am stealth watching. Tuning in until Murray either goes down break point or up break point, then turning off. When I look back, it's all fine again :)
Oh my god!
There's some seriously big hits in these rallies, I'm amazed either player is managing to get to them
I'm a bit behind you. I like knowing something good is going to happen :)
In truth I'm just really really good at predicting what's about to happen :)
Looks like the roof is about to be closed.
Did they just change channel without saying anything about it?
They did, I got really confused. Also The One Show is on BBC two.
The Two Show?
Oh the roof isn't being closed, they reckon the rain is gonna pass. Famous last words I bet.
I guess they've switched channel because it's Murray and he's doing quite well, so they want it on BBC1 except they've just walked off court. Odd.
I can see that being a possible discussion at the beeb.
"How's Andy getting on?"
"He's 2 sets down"
"Oh chuck him on BBC4 then"
Hehe, I bet that's how it goes.
another tie break? why not
I think this year, after about seven years of trying, I've finally got my head around the tie break.
I'm still getting there. The order in the change of serves confuse me!
Yes, they do keep swapping ends and stuff.
Will young is not impressed.
Come on andy, serve here and you have 2 match points to play with.
or just the one even. again, silly tie breaking confusion!
YES!
Semi finals!
Tsonga vs murray, what a match!
Who are you going to cheer for in his next match, Lukeh?
I think I shall still cheer for Murray. I do like Tsonga though, his little dance after his win today reminded me of Rubens winning. Either winner is a winner though.
In retrospect thats such an obvious statement
Who do you want to win, christine?
It's so hard to choose! I want Murray to do well because I really want someone to start challenging the top three on a regular basis.
But Tsonga is so smiley, and French! So...
Hmm.
it's a toughie! ideally tsonga vs murray would've been a better final. It does mean someone awesome will be in the final though.
BBC now showing the doubles match with the Williams sisters, Sir Frank and Claire.
#f1crossover
I think he might have something to say about being a sister!
It was a desperate link I'll give you that :)
