The order of play for today's action isn't available as I type this and that's probably because they had a bit of a mixed up day yesterday. Andy Murray only got halfway through his match with Cilic, whilst only three men managed to book their place in the next round. On the women's side, all eight matches were completed with surprises from Sabine Lisicki (knocking out Sharapova) and Angelique Kerber (knocking out Kim Clijsters. I'm also very intrigued by the quarter final match up of Serena Williams and defending champion Petra Kvitova.
Day 8 at Wimbledon
Published by Christine Blachford on
raining again, although i think covers are coming off, so might get some play on the outside courts tonight, looking forward to the lisicki match.
also terrible news from the marussia test today, lets hope Maria de Villota pulls through ok, this is the last thing f1 needs in what has been an unbelievable season.
she has to play already?
#exhausting
Afternoon folks. Just sitting down now to see Murray has taken the 2nd set :)
yeah i think all the womens qf matches are today, i guess they have lost abit of time and the sunday day off doesnt help
Woohoo! Tsonga's comiing back into his match
hey chap
murray serving for the win
I've just realised that sounds like murray's serving ftw. his serving can indeed be ftw but he is actually serving ftw.
#whoneedslogic
and he wiiiiiins :) great way to win.
that makes my head spin :)
:D
this is why i am not john mcenroe
Ferrer is handing it to Delpo #goshorty
radwanska v kirilenko match starting now, this may be an upset with kirilenko getting up, but radwanska should win.
yay lord f wins!
tsonga now winning 2 sets to 1 :)
smashed del potro in straight sets
kohlschreiber ??? i think thats close to the right spelling, about to have a big win over baker too
bakers come back has been amazing, he's done so well to get this far
yeah true, but kohlschreiber is in a bit of good form at the moment, might go a game or two further into the tourney.
tsonga up a break in the 4th now too.
yay, Serena takes the first set vs Ms Defending Kvitova
Serena wins, yay!
well i was close to going to bed but now sabine lisicki is next up on centre court, might see how this game goes for a set or two......
serena might be hard to beat this year, looking very strong
i was thinking the same thing haha
yeah theres been a few late nights the last couple of weeks, will be just as bad when the olympics start too, well for me anyway #iwontbethere.
kerber has surprised me abit, i didnt realise how many games she has won the last year or so, ranked 8 now i think, maybe sabine has a better chance on grass.
between the french and wimbledon i normally crash out on tennis for the next few months, i always fail to watch as much of the US Open Series as I'd like.
yeah the french and wimbledon start at pretty good times so we can see a fair bit of it here, but the US Open is on way too late, i think it starts at 1 am here and the night sessions are on when im at work so it does make it hard to see too much of it at all, if any.
kerber has started well......
the US Open is probably the slam I see the most of, I watch it all day at work haha
nice....
do you ever go to the australian open, havent been myself yet but have always been planning to do it, just havent yet, but one day i will.
and i just saw a weather forecast for the silverstone gp, lets just say all 4 days, lots of rain.
yeah I've gone every year that I've lived here, my absolute highlight was going to both finals in 2010 and seeing Roger and Serena win. Every year I say I won't go to as much as I end up going to, it gets expensive quickly!
2010 final, was that the one where roger beat murray and they were both crying after the match, roger broke a grand slam record i think, that would have been pretty special, this years final between djokovic and nadal was an awesome match too.
yeah he absolutely dominated Murray. In the stadium I kept thinking he was close to losing but watching it back on TV it was really one sided haha. I went to the final in 2011 on a whim and ended up with the best seats I've ever had at Rod Laver, was very cool to see Novak win too but back then I had no idea what he'd go on to accomplish the rest of the year! I've banned myself from finals now because they're really expensive and I've already seen my two favourites win one, so it can only go downhill from there.
Henri! I love him
id probably ust get a ground pass at first and have a look at a few of the outside courts, not sure if its the best thing to do but in the first week there appears to be a few better matchups there while at rod laver and hisense arena the big guns just slap people of the court. but seeing any of the top four play in a final would be a great experience.
sabine looks like being in a bit of trouble in the first set.
he is hilarious, and still pretty skilled at his age too.
yeah the ground passes are suburb value. I don't take any time off for the tennis but the last couple of years I've gone along with an after 5 pass on the first Monday because theres still heaps of great matches going on until quite late. I always get a Hisense Arena pass for middle weekend too because theres good matches for really cheap in there. I think this year, or maybe it was last year because time keeps disappearing on me, I got to see 18 of the top 20 men.
suburb? superb.
yeah that definately seems the way to go.
I went to Sydney last year for the Switzerland v Australia Davis Cup tie, it was one of the best weekends ever. It felt very retro seeing Lleyton and Roger play each other on grass, and it was also the first time I've ever seen Roger playing doubles.
oh my, how did 2.20am happen? bedtime!
that was a close tie in the end too. i think switzerland won 3-2 from memory, always appears to be a great atmosphere at the davis cup matches.
yeah me too, sabine looks like she might struggle to make it through, hopefully i wake up to hear she has won.....
Just in time to see Tsonga at match point. yay for him, boo for missing a whole match :)
Showing Lisicki now but it's not going well at all.
who is this woman who's beating her?
Another German I think.
She's doing her best to stay in it, but it's painful!
she's a bit serious
These two both have the same hair, same white headband, and similar dresses. I can't tell them apart.
one all!
Woohoo!
No one wants to hold serve in this final set!
Lisicki breaks and goes to serve for the match, then goes 0-40 down. What is going on!
long week :)
5 games all.
5-4 sorry.
5 all, and then Kerber breaks and will serve it out. No one wants to win this flipping match.
serving for the match...
match point.
and another.
She'll get one of them.
game over
that match took up a disproportionate amount of my life :)
Booooo. Oh well. I don't think either of them deserved that one!
Kirilenko has a very odd dress.
One set all in this match too. I'm not sure I can take any more!
