I'm writing this still reeling from the fact that Rafael Nadal was knocked out of the second round of Wimbledon - the first time he's been out at this stage in major tournament for seven years. It doesn't throw the tournament wide open, Federer is playing up a storm so far, but it's certainly thrown a spanner in the works. Meanwhile, we have third round matches to enjoy today, including the aforementioned Federer, Clijsters and Sharapova plus Sabine Lisicki. Here's to more good weather and/or the roof!

If I say how rubbish the weather is again, will I make it sunny two days in a row? :)

  • john29/06/2012 at 10:00

well i think i need a couple more tvs, its all happening, tennis, football and cricket all on the same time, i think the remote might be getting a fair workout over the next couple of hours.

now wheres that remote of mine gone?

  • john29/06/2012 at 12:29

flicking between the cricket and tennis now, lisicki started well against stephens, djokovic should win easilly but last night there was an reasonable sized upset (didnt see that coming) footy is all but over and ping.... cummins just claims his first helmet as bopara forgets to duck.

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 12:30

@Wimbledon: Stepanek made to change v. bright red & blue shoes by ump because they break predominantly white rule. Now playing in white & green shoes.

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 12:31

You'd think by the fifth day, he might have noticed the white.

  • john29/06/2012 at 12:32

i didnt think that rule applied for shoes aswell

    stephens breaks back against lisicki

  • Amy29/06/2012 at 12:32

i guess they try do the world a favour and keep him off tv as much as possible

sharipova struggling to serve in the wind. still winning, but in a grumpy fashion.

  • Mr C29/06/2012 at 14:48

surely women should be allowed to wear shorts in the wind? it's a bit awkward.

  • Mr C29/06/2012 at 14:58

    sharipova wins. easy.

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 15:02

surely women should be allowed to wear shorts in the wind? it's a bit awkward.

They are allowed to wear shorts anytime but I guess if their chosen designer didn't give them any... they can't.

  • Mr C29/06/2012 at 15:21

They are allowed to wear shorts anytime but I guess if their chosen designer didn't give them any... they can't.

ahh, major designer fail. holding down your clothes until the wind dies out seems like a silly way to play tennis.

  • john29/06/2012 at 16:24

zvonareva is crying on court while playing clijsters, down a set but up plenty of tears, not sure whats going on but she has called for the trainer. now she is having a medical time out, i think she is sick, not an actual injury.

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 17:59

Federer appears to have lost a set, too.

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 18:30

Tiebreak in the second set. If I recall Amy correctly, Fed is not so good at the tiebreaks.

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 18:33

It's gone. Federer two sets down.

  • john29/06/2012 at 18:34

whats going on now federer has lost the first 2 sets, geez if it wasnt 4 am in the morning id start drinking.

  • Mr C29/06/2012 at 18:34

    hehe

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 18:36

whats going on now federer has lost the first 2 sets, geez if it wasnt 4 am in the morning id start drinking.

Some would say that's prime drinking time!

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 18:38

    Oh no, Benneteau fell down.

  • john29/06/2012 at 18:38

Some would say that's prime drinking time!

yeah, sometimes i am still drinking at 4am after a big night, not just cracking the first can at 4am.

although next time if i go to bed early, set the alarm, it could be an interesting sunrise

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 18:41

Federer has broken early in the third set. Wonder if Bennie is either a) injured or b) totally shaken from that fall.

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 18:46

    Federer breaks again. Oh well.

  • john29/06/2012 at 18:46

    roger has lifted his game

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 18:46

Mrs Federer stifles a yawn. How much tennis she must have to watch.

  • john29/06/2012 at 18:56

oh boo sorana cirstea is out, beaten pretty easily by kirilenko

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 18:59

    Third set Federer.

  • john29/06/2012 at 19:02

lleyton hewitt doubles match 7-7 in the 5th set

  • john29/06/2012 at 19:13

lleyton hewitt doubles match 7-7 in the 5th set

make that 9-7 its all over a rare win for the aussies at wimbledon this year.

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 19:21

On serve in the fourth set. Ball just bounced off the umpire and back into court. Funny.

  • Steven Roy29/06/2012 at 19:27

Federer is losing too? What is happening to Wimbledon this year?

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 19:28

Federer is losing too? What is happening to Wimbledon this year?

I don't think he'll be losing for long.

  • Steven Roy29/06/2012 at 19:39

I don't think he'll be losing for long.

    Does he know that?

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 19:40

    Does he know that?

You should have seen what he was playing like before!

  • Steven Roy29/06/2012 at 19:41

    How did he see that?

  • Mr C29/06/2012 at 19:41

    How did he see that?

    incredible.

  • Ryan29/06/2012 at 19:42

    How did he see that?

I presume it was just blind optimism.

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 19:42

    Tiebreak.

  • lou29/06/2012 at 19:42

    How is Amy holding up?

  • Steven Roy29/06/2012 at 19:43

    Tiebreak.

Now is a bad time for a teabreak.

    Oh!

  • Mr C29/06/2012 at 19:43

    How is Amy holding up?

    hasn't been seen since 2pm :)

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 19:43

    hasn't been seen since 2pm :)

I hope she is sleeping, her schedule is scary.

  • Mr C29/06/2012 at 19:44

I hope she is sleeping, her schedule is scary.

second cracking match in two days she's slept through. should we headping?

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 19:45

second cracking match in two days she's slept through. should we headping?

I think there are too many tiebreaks in this game for Amy to enjoy!

  • Steven Roy29/06/2012 at 19:45

second cracking match in two days she's slept through. should we headping?

Maybe wait and see if Federer wins the tiebreak first. No point waking her for 6 points

  • lou29/06/2012 at 19:46

    hasn't been seen since 2pm :)

ahh good, she should be sleeping but i had images of her being awake and not being able to sleep through this match.

  • Ryan29/06/2012 at 19:47

Any reason why the roof is closed?

  • lou29/06/2012 at 19:48

    bit scared by this match.

  • Mr C29/06/2012 at 19:50

Any reason why the roof is closed?

@wimbledon The Federer v Benneteau match will be played under the roof until its conclusion or until 11pm tonight (whichever comes first)

  • Mr C29/06/2012 at 19:51

    tense.

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 19:51

@wimbledon The Federer v Benneteau match will be played under the roof until its conclusion or until 11pm tonight (whichever comes first)

Cos it was raining earlier and they don't wanna stop it to take the roof off.

  • Ryan29/06/2012 at 19:51

Cos it was raining earlier and they don't wanna stop it to take the roof off.

    That makes some sense.

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 19:52

Cos it was raining earlier and they don't wanna stop it to take the roof off.

Plus they'd have to put it back on again when it gets dark, and it takes half an hour to "acclimatise"

  • Mr C29/06/2012 at 19:52

Plus they'd have to put it back on again when it gets dark, and it takes half an hour to "acclimatise"

that's like me in the morning.

  • Mr C29/06/2012 at 19:53

    dang

  • Steven Roy29/06/2012 at 19:53

    2 sets all

  • Ryan29/06/2012 at 19:53

The crowd is also a lot happier when Federer wins something than when Nadal won something yesterday. Didn't realise he was that popular.

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 20:03

Benneteau limping a bit now. He's asked for the trainer.

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 20:04

He can't go a whole set like this.

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 20:10

He had a bit of a massage and now seems better. Weird.

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 20:11

Having said that, Fed has just broken, so, it's probably all downhill from here.

  • Mark29/06/2012 at 20:12

Having said that, Fed has just broken, so, it's probably all downhill from here.

The Terminator Federer does not make mistakes.

  • Christine29/06/2012 at 20:15

Turning it off now, final set is no fun.

  • Steven Roy29/06/2012 at 20:17

I disappear for ten minutes and someone dropped the match on its head

  • Steven Roy29/06/2012 at 20:18

Looks like Amy will be happy when she wakes

  • Steven Roy29/06/2012 at 20:21
