The first of the quarter final events gets underway today, with the winners of Group A taking on the runners up of Group B. Portugal have so far used the same starting line up in each of their three matches, presumably believing it a winning formula. Captain of the Czech side, Tomas Rosicky, is suffering from an Achilles injury that he sustained during their match against Greece. He's not likely to start the match but might be available as a substitute. Whoever wins this will go on to play the winner of Spain against France.

New idea, instead of the match, we get 90 minutes of listening to Jurgen Klinsmann.

    AND Clarence Seedorf.

I don't care about him, Klinsmann is the greatest German of all time.

i feel like i've missed something?

  • Mark21/06/2012 at 18:39

This could be the best game- two teams who have matched/exceeded expectations.

  • Ryan21/06/2012 at 18:39

The one and a half years Jurgen spent in England. Ahhhhh.

  • Mark21/06/2012 at 18:40

I estimate he spent at least 80% of his time diving.

I'm just writing some notes for work so it's kind of background noise. But commenting is always fun anyways of course.

  • Mark21/06/2012 at 19:07

This game has lived up to the "Mark doesn't have the first clue what he's talking about" rule. DULL AS ANYTHING.

  • Pat W21/06/2012 at 19:08

hi guys, I'm kind of half watching

Same, if that. It's just on. Don't care about either team and expecting Portugal to win. Would be nice if the Czechs did. I don't know if I'll bother with tomorrow's at all.

Cooking dinner, sorting out bookings for things (gave me a headache working it all out but I think I'm there).

  • Noelinho21/06/2012 at 19:12

    Hi there

  • Ryan21/06/2012 at 19:12

This game is threatening to get interesting.

  • Noelinho21/06/2012 at 19:15

I don't think the Czechs will win, but if they do, I'll be happy, because I have plenty of them in my Fantasy team :)

  • Mr C21/06/2012 at 19:21

    What's #glt?

goal line technology. bad comment typing ruined my sarcasm. ignore me.

interesting. shouldn't a competition build up to a crescendo? how has it lost momentum after just a day off?

  • Ryan21/06/2012 at 19:24

I think its more down to two very uninspiring games. France v Spain should be interesting.

  • Pat W21/06/2012 at 19:25

I think its more down to two very uninspiring games. France v Spain should be interesting.

That's the one I'm waiting for, and England of course.

Germany will win easily tomorrow and I just don't really care about today's teams.

  • Mr C21/06/2012 at 19:25

BT do that, it's a bit freaky sometimes especially if you've had a real go at them

  • Steven Roy21/06/2012 at 19:48

    Hi all

  • Ryan21/06/2012 at 19:50

One of these days Ronaldo is going to try and shoot from a goal kick.

  • Will^21/06/2012 at 19:51

Just drop by to say I'm out for a last-minute-arranged meal. More than likely see you FP1.

  • Steven Roy21/06/2012 at 19:52

Ronaldo's acting classes must be really good

  • Mark21/06/2012 at 19:53

Ronaldo's acting classes must be really good

He's almost Italian in his gestures and reactions.

  • Rubbergoat21/06/2012 at 19:55

I already have a picture in my feed reader of Ronaldos attempted bicycle Kick. That's freaky quick!

  • Rubbergoat21/06/2012 at 19:55

The Portuguese have been worse than the Italians in this tournament IMO.

  • Steven Roy21/06/2012 at 20:00

    Offside

  • Steven Roy21/06/2012 at 20:00

I thought Portugal had taken the lead

    Offside

    By a country mile.

  • Steven Roy21/06/2012 at 20:01

What a waste. Great break from the Czech

  • Steven Roy21/06/2012 at 20:06

Portugal don't have the patience of Spain to pass the ball round and create an opening

  • Ryan21/06/2012 at 20:08

Cech, Cech, Cech, you're meant to take the opposition player out.

  • Steven Roy21/06/2012 at 20:09

Cech, Cech, Cech, you're meant to take the opposition player out.

At least he was positive and got the ball. Was the perfect chance to take out Ronaldo though

  • Steven Roy21/06/2012 at 20:12

Caught his studs in the ground. Bet that hurt

  • Steven Roy21/06/2012 at 20:18

  • Mark21/06/2012 at 20:21

  • Steven Roy21/06/2012 at 20:31

Do the Portugese players have a pool running on who can miss by the greatest distance?

  • Mr C21/06/2012 at 20:31

    What's wrong with it?

it doesn't continue round the back and goes right from top to bottom. poor use of space.

There are far worse examples. There are teams (not this tournament) who have stripes over the whole front and a plain colour on the rear

Good win for Portugal. Now for the Battle of Thermopylae Greece v Germany tomorrow.

  • Steven Roy21/06/2012 at 20:39

Why didn't he send him off?

Beats me. BBC started saying that it was ridiculous behaviour and clearly they thought he should go. Almost criticised the ref then remembered he was English and in the space of two sentences it was a good decision not to send him off because there was no time left in the game

  • Rubbergoat21/06/2012 at 20:41

Seriously though, whoever gets to the semis just needs to take out Ronaldo and they've beat them.

  • Noelinho21/06/2012 at 20:41

    See ya tomorrow

  • Ryan21/06/2012 at 20:42

Seriously though, whoever gets to the semis just needs to take out Ronaldo and they've beat them.

Just let him shoot from a million miles out. That would do the trick.

  • Steven Roy21/06/2012 at 20:43

Seriously though, whoever gets to the semis just needs to take out Ronaldo and they've beat them.

Or at least mark him. He is one of the best two or three players in the world but when he scored he was not only not marked but none of the defenders had a clue he was anywhere near the box. They had four defenders in the middle marking one attacker and Ronaldo blindsided them

  • Rubbergoat21/06/2012 at 20:43
