As the 2010 World Cup enters its second day of exciting pitch action, we're busy swatting up on the rules and regulations surrounding that mysterious game, known simply as football.

Red Bull Racing mechanics watch football on the monitors during the Canadian Grand Prix in 2006.
If you manage to tune out the background drone of the invisible wasp, that is the excitable home fans clueless about how to showcase their own country to the rest of the world, this soccer business can be a lot of fun.
On to the grass
Today is the turn of the country hoping to host F1's newest Grand Prix, South Korea. They're taking on a country that one-day has designs on accommodating its own Grand Prix, but likely has less backing than Simon Gillett.
Argentina will play Nigeria later today, and while the former have a long history with Formula 1, going right back to the legend that was Juan Manuel Fangio, I can't think of a single connection between F1 and Nigeria.
The final game of the day is an easy one for any racing fan to understand, as England take on the USA. Here's hoping that this time around the team from across the Atlantic manage to make the opening round of the championship.
Today's 66-man lineup looks something like this:
- South Korea vs. Greece - 12:30 (GMT+1)
- Argentina vs. Nigeria - 15:00 (GMT+1)
- England vs. USA - 19:30 (GMT+1)
Regardless of whether you think you're interested in football, please come join us in the comments for a look at the game through the eyes of some clueless motor sport fans. We don't claim to be experts, but we do have more enthusiasm for what we're watching than certain people paid good money by the BBC to be enthusiastic about what we're watching.
Goal!
Nice post Mr. C! I'm looking forward to today's matches already.
South Korea v Greece, there is a God!
Hey folks
And Edgar Davids is doing the analysis on ITV, they did something right.
:D
How will the English choose? England vs. USA or English F1 team qualifying?
And USA also has to choose between 'Soccer' or US tennis players on grass.
Quali starts at 6pm here, game starts at 7:30pm, so I don't think it will be any effect.
But surely you guys go down to pubs for the matches? Even I choose to be at a nearby coffeeshop. #savemoney
Some people do... some don't, like me. I prefer it when I can get stuff easily and sit in a comfy chair watching the tv...and not embarass myself in front of loads of people like I imagine I would.
I am staying at home for the matches today as I have some computer stuff to do. So I can join in the fun here! :D
Yaaay. Park Ji Sung (Man U), Lee Chung Young (Bolton) and Lee Young Pyo (ex-Tottenham, wooooo, don't tell anyone but I quite liked him)
And it seems South Africa shares my enthusiasm for this game, whats with all those empty seats? Shouldn't be happening.
He is quite good actually. I have been following both Koreas during the build up and both are impressive, but in different ways. N. Korea is far more defensively minded.
I should, and for later matches I may... but I want to be here for Le Mans at the same time.
Small match, expected. The later ones should be jam-packed.
New Zealand referee! ;) AMY!
Yeah, but loads of Spurs fans didn't like him.
They might be defensively minded, but don't think they'll do as well defensively as Greece in 2004. Plus they got that nightmare of a group.
Don't count against the power of a persuasive leader.
I just realised that majority of the audience are Koreans. Maybe the empty seats were for the almost-bankrupt Greeks?
I assume not like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYDXkVGpMpc&feature=related
He only did it cos he was worried of being in trouble back home if the team ever lost more than 4-0
GOAL!!!!!
So, this very impressive defensive Greek team, leave a player unmarked and concede after 6 minutes.
Really bad defending for that corner. What happened to the Great Greek defense in 2004?
I think they got old and retired.
Maybe they need 10 men behind the ball and hope for the odd long ball goal.
Doesn't help from corners or free kicks from that area...
Goalhand then. :P
Oooh. Testy. The Greek goal keeper doesn't look very assured.
Ops.
4 people and they still can't crowd Korea out.
First major tournament for him I think.
Korea's turn. Goooo Park.
I like how both corners were cleared by their captain. Really taking control.
Soooo close. The Greek defense is really :(
Things change in 6 years :(
...i may have missed the start :(
You missed the first goal. And it was by KOREA. :(
Rule number 1 of watching football, never miss the start. I remember going to an England v France U17 match at St. James Park. The game finished 3-0, all three goals came in the first 5 minutes. I had missed that.
i am a bad fan :(
doh!
Cripes, you are right!
Ow.
I was too busy watching Australia beat England in the rugby !
Not by Park though. :(
Korea not liking playing against the sun.
SungRyong is really quite good.
No added time. BREAK. :D
2nd half people!
Greece subs off their captain. O.O
I am excited for Argentina v Nigeria just because its the first match my friend Ange is attending and her enthusiasm is wearing off on me.
I'm looking at the subs list, "19 Papaststhopoulos" Come on then Mr Commentator, say that
Mine pronounced it 'papas-sto-paulos' :D
Echo.
Well, while footy's on and the Koreans are in action, I'll camp here, then at 2pm I'll push Radio Le Mans into the fore and hope Ant takes the lead! :D
Oh that's a cracker.
PARK SCOOOORRRREESSSS! :D
Fantastic run from Park Ji Sung. Catastrophic pass though from Greece.
Anybody'd think you were a commentator, or loved the South Koreans! :P
Neither. I just like Park because I thought he would make it in Man U when he went there and I was right.
So, four world cup games for Greece. As it stands its
Played 4, won 0, drew 0, lost 4, scored 0, conceded 12
what a stat!
:D I am not surprised.
Last played in 94. Interestingly it also had Nigeria and Argentina in their group back then...
Lots of frowny faces for Greece. They change their captain yet AGAIN and use up all 3 subs.
Running totally out of ideas...
surely their are only 2 ideas in football
1- kick ball at goal
2- stop other team kicking ball at goal
:P
Sadly Greece can't do 1 or 2.
:D
XDDD As evidenced by the attempted bicycle kick.
Goodness me. Virtually everyone from Greece was offside there.
Greece in shot on target shock?
:D They are actually playing better now that they are 2 goals behind.
Plan for their next game, go 2-0 down in 5 minutes, win 3-2. Easy.
Saved. Ah well.
Against Nigeria? They better hope hard.
Full time. Korea wins! :D
Good start for the Southern version of Korea. Greece are going to have hard work if they are going to do anything anything in this World Cup.
Longer break. Argentina of Maradona fame up next!
Yaaay, I have absolutly no idea what on earth is going to happen in that match.
Argentina will either roll over Nigeria or crash&burn. Either way, we should get goals. ;)
BBC got Jurgen Klinsmann on their coverage. That makes it x500000 better.
I want! But it is not as if his team is playing now.
Park gets man-of-the-match. :D
tennis/football crossover :D
http://twitpic.com/1w51bh
:D I want one of Rafa and Spain!
I love that every commentator I have heard talk about the Spain v Switzerland match has somehow managed to get a Roger v Rafa mention in.
Typical.
ZAKUMI!!!! (gigantic heart)
good afternoon sidepodpeople
Hey mate.
Afternoon. Here for Messi or Maradona? ;)
Can someone please tell Maradona to get a shave.
Messi. I don't like Maradona.
But for some reason Messi is not the same player when he plays for Argentina than for Barcelona. I hope he finds his usual Spanish level this time...
Ah, but that would require certain Spanish midfielders wouldn't it? Messi's loss is Villa and Torres's gain :P
Would not like to be defending against that front three of Argentina.
My sister just compared Gabriel Heinze to the ketchup brand. :D
Woah. Argentina fast off the blocks.
Looks like its going to be end to end stuff.
Lionel Messi, he's up for this.
Nice shot. Nicer save.
well, seems messi is happier than usual...
Oh my what a header!
now much more happier :D
GOOOOAAAALLLLL. By Ketchup. :D
Again. Messi really wants the golden boot, doesn't he?
I think, I may have underestimated Argentina.
I think you may have overestimated the influence Maradona has on his team. :P
Any score?
you can't lose THAT goal!
Yeah, he's put on a good team, in the best formation, and yeah. Oops.
Higuain miss.
Yes. 1-0 to Maradona. :D
Argentina 1-0. Heinze header.
Injury?
Maradona taking time to chat to his players. Does it make a difference?
The Nigerian keeper, fantastic player and I just can't believe he only plays club level in Isreal. He is much better than that.
Hmm, don't know who I'd root for
Arg usually play entertaining football, I guess
:D
African goalkeepers are cool.
I would say no...
Either that, or they have entertaining backlashes. :D
True
I love buying him on Football Manager. Costs about £2-3 million and is reliable.
Right, I'm getting on
See ya, enjoy the sports
See ya Bassano
Bye Bassano. Safe flight.
bye bassano
Close shave. Come on Argentina defense!
My sis is now complaining on behalf of the grass pitch.
DIVE! Javier so didn't hit him there. :P
Goodness, its Messi v Enyeama show here.
Enyeama is really good. Hat trick of saves from World Player of the Year
Maradona talking off the 4th official's ear.
Half time. I think this is confirming Messi is god.
But he hasn't scored yet!
But his movement, his work with the ball, just sensational.
CR may top that (?)
Hmm, he might stand out more but only because I think the rest of the Portugal team are poor.
True.
I still think playmakers and forwards get too much glory. Scoring goals mean nothing when your team leaks like a bottomless pail.
2nd Half!
Oooh Messi
'Diego the ball boy.' :D
Martins on, from experience, he doesn't do placed shots.
Better than nothing. He helped them through qualifying. Pretty surprised he wasn't in the 1st eleven actually.
Great tackle by Yobo there.
Not complaining, just didn't like it when he smashed that 87mph goal against Spurs a few years back. Can score, which helps.
Argentina seems to be taking things a little too easy now. Passes aren't nearly as crisp.
I just hope Nigeria score a gaol to wake Argentina up a bit. Or at least come very close
Won a corner. Hopeful.
What was that? Higuain!
Tevez should have passed to di Maria
OW! 4 against 2 and Messi misses. Tevez chose the wrong option.
I think Argentina need to bring a different striker on, Milito probably, change things up
Heee. Offside means the ball travels from 1 to the other end. :D
Oh. Nigeria close call.
And Taiwo gets injured. :(
Gotta give them credit, keeping themselves in it.
Agreed.
I think they should stop supplying Messi because he can't seem to score. Make him supply others instead.
What IS wrong with Veron?
Oh, Javier... Such passion. :D
apparently got slightly hurt trying to stop Taiwo before
It would be nice if Nigeria could take a decent corner
But his passing was horrific from even before. :(
Oooh. Green laser light on Messi.
To be fair, he did set up the ball.
Set up the goal even.
Nigeria!
Higuain off. I am quite happy with Maradona's substituitions actually.
He's the opposite of Domenech
:D
Really not Messi's scoring night.
Messi, can do everything, but score
Wow Yakubu. Nigeria really going all out.
Argentina good going forward, shooting practice required. Think it will be between Korea and Nigeria for second place.
yeap.
run to the supermarket before qualy for me. see you in 30min
Got to be S. Korea. I suspect Nigeria may have cracks forming in their squad soon while the Koreans are on high after their win. Plus the Greeks might be a tougher opposition in the next match.
See you. :D
Catch ya then
BACK. F1 qualifying isn't going well for me so I'm switching to the more predictable sport. #Englandforfail :D
Some England supporters are more than awesome: http://www.tri4africa.co.uk/
And now for England vs USA :)
Who's up for some soccerball.
Boo.
And wishing I was in the right thread.
Predicition: 3-1 to England
Warning: This program contains flashing images of Adrian Chiles, and is unsuitable for anyone under the age of 65.
Just saying what the Americans will be.
4-2, Heskey with 2.
No I'm not joking.
am I the only person that likes adrian chiles?!
I love your predictions :)
They make no sense, but 1 out of 10 times I get them right.
who's the keeper?
Robert Green
Probably, but he was good on The One Show. Since he left it, I don't like him.
Rob Green, I think I'm one of the few who rate him.
Brad Friedel.
Tim Howard is the USA keeper and rightly so
<3 Tim
(The American is Tim Howard)
oh. any good?
Maybe I should call him Alguersauri Howard. That messes with my mind.
:D
I'll add to that by saying that Crouch will score one from being subbed on.
He was awesome in his time at Blackburn, but I didn't see much of him last season.
Anyone expecting rooney to start kicking off in the angry sense?
Fabio Capello has a very nice suit
Me. :D
I can hear air horns instead of vuvuzelas
Specially designed by him for the whole team.
Also, I like how there was a Honduras fan in the middle of all the England fans
He's in for a surprise
So, I have accurately identified from sight alone (and Mr C can verify this) five players in our team, plus Fabio Capello.
I am officially awesome.
Get out. :D
thank the lord!
i am stunned
Who has a very nice suit, may I add once again. I'm very impressed by it.
You were always awesome. Check your Paypal. :)
Thats the loudest national anthem I've heard from anyone in years in a football match
i prefer their anthem.
By the way Christine, England have no-one called Franck.
hehe!
You always were. :D
They have a Frank though.
impressive
I can't wait for Italy and Brazil's matches just for their amazing anthems :D
Ours is so dreary
They do!
how come they didn't do this for other games? singing and stuff?
I think that's why she supported France. :D
Russia's is fantastic but they ain't here. :(
I thought they did?
Wales were too good for them
*runs*
They do...
Shame Kazakhstan's anthem isn't there. I loved Borat.
AND, not one of them was David Beckham.
#EvenMoreAwesome
Frank is acceptable.
Okay more name games. My sis has sported an American 'demerit'. Says he ought to be kicked off the team just for his name alone.
Almost as impressive as the big Fab's suit
:D :D
oh right
One of the USA's best players also happens to be the son of the manager.
should we call him piquet?
I think... I can hear chanting.
GERRARD!!
What a start!! 1-0 :D
Wooooo!
STEVIE G! ain't he just awesome?
Wow, already
wahhooooo!
I can hear cheering, but no air horns. :D
ITV HD I HATE YOU
:D
whoop whoop
What'd he do?
Fastest goal in a match in SA2010 so far.
Typical ITV go to a break
that was fast...
was a fine one too
What? Normal ITV didn't... and never does for footie
...said the nun to the bishop.
at the third minute of football match??!?! that's even worse than what I have for f1.
....about the local football match.
Technical glitch, went for a ad break, turned over to normal ITV to see Gerrard celebrating.
I thought Tshabalala's was better, but any Stevie G goal is a good one.
I think it was a glitch, it has happened before with ITV football
Who is our goalkeeper please? I only know of Calamity James.
:D :D
Robert Green, ex Norwich.
Rob Green. I rate him, at least.
Calamity James :D
Robert Green. Young, good, needs experience.
His name is Rob. He's bound to be good.
:D
Not the same as that bloke who keeps going fishing.
Oooh. Tim (Alguersuari) Howard doesn't look very happy.
as good a place as any i guess
I wouldn't be if I was wearing fluroescent clothes
Attempted Liverpool corner to goal failed.
I feel bad for the US keeper. He seems a bit angry now.
Woah what was that? really bad back pass there. :(
He's a good goalkeeper, used to play for Man Utd.
He'll get used to it...
England goal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1JDCdWkVQ8&feature=player_embedded
I see zonal marking by Johnson and Gerrard and man-marking for the rest. Capello better ensure offside is applied well.
Either the bees are swarming quieter, or I have got used to the noise.
:D
Less Africans in this match.
I think the English got most of the tickets.
Less bees, more horns, more proper cheering from English fans. :)
Oooooooooooooooh.
America looking decent.
Close call. What's up with the English defense? #needsJamiein1steleven
how did he stuff that up??
We don't need Carragher, we need Dawson
England are quite good at that...
Capello phoned me up to replace Rio but being Welsh I had to decline
That's not the words you said out loud!
:P
Hahaha!
:D
He sounds like a proper football fan already.
:D What if you got to play for Brazil or Spain instead?
#footballchangeslives
Well I'm sure I could change my name to Lukinho or something.
Calm down Milner...
Yay.
Oh come on, Milner.
Wow, that's a beard! Nick Fry would be jealous of that.
You missed Maradona's.
Boo, know that feeling :(
Tim's down.
Oh no, Tim :(
"there's plenty of emile heskey"
:)
:)
Oh no!
It's David Beckham!!
Lukeh, what do you think of Becks' suit?
:D
i never saw sven make those faces...
Logical sub.
It's alright but he is stylish anyways. it is to be expected of him.
Fabio capello's looks more Harrods but Becks looks more expensive Marks & Spencers
SWP up for Milner. Yay for Man city.
I don't know this new one, but I approve of the double barralled name. Posh people play football too.
He's not posh. I can guarantee you that.
Ian Wright's son, innit?
+1
His dad is Ian Wright.
Bah! Illusions shattered.
he is?
Really really?
Andy Townsend says Heskey is doing well with his bread and butter stuff
Next step - marmite
If not, I think Ian would be pretty annoyed. ;)
I can also guarantee you double barrelled name does not equal poshness from my own life experience :D
In a posh club too.
Which really tells you all you need to know.
:D Yummy!
Hmm. I'm going to have to think about this. :)
Lots of money does not equal posh. Man City is not posh, I can assure you. :D
muse isn't double-barrelled?
Ricky Hatton supports them, again, says it all
silly mr c ;)
Well their stadium looks posh. At least Posh-er than most, though the posh-est has to be Arsenal. Style stadium and all.
With no atmosphere what so ever, just a generic, boring stadium.
When United fans visit it can be a bloodbath. :)
That's why Anfield is still the best. :D
He could blame that on the wonky ball panels.
Indeed.
Or just the fact that the Jabulani is a beach ball.
Horrid defense. Good going Rob!
Has nothing on Old Trafford. ;)
Only Londoners could think WHL better than Anfield. They don't even have a famous club anthem. :P
His name's Green and he's wearing green.
*giggles*
Oh for ****'s sake....
You put him off!
Oh Rob Green
Oooooh. Calamity Green?
noooo
oops
I did! Oh no.
Good going Dempsey! The fight is on!
If only it was F1 - they could say the track was still green.
Hehehe.
the pitch is still green
The grass is green. And probably slippery since FIFA standard = very slippery pitch ala Cape Town.
Tall man down. Are they going to send on the taller one?
Angry Becks!
Beck's reaction!
david beckham doesn't get angry, he just turns to stone
Argh, I hate people who just get on keepers backs when they make a mistake.
kinda deserved though. you wouldn't have done that.
He should've saved that though, it was a error only he can be blamed for
"sold lennon short"
yoko ono's playing?
Everyone makes mistakes. It is just that since there is only 1 goalkeeper on each team of 11, one person has to shoulder all the blame.
I have, I've been there (not on the same stage obviously), the worst feeling in the world when you know its 100% your fault. You need people to pick yourself back up and say its a one off, won't happen again, just a little blip.
Oh yes, it was his fault. But its just the people who go on calling him rubbish (and worse)
Least Ringo isn't, he's dead, remember? :P
Yeah true enough. Harsh saying it based on that.
Half-time. Break!
green looks like he'll be okay. there's time to fix it.
Loo break. What I miss when the BBC took the F1 coverage!
gah!
le mans time
If it helps, I like him.
USA goal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjSyBZw-EOM&feature=player_embedded
But you were the one who jinxed him! :P
"I understand there was some disruption."
Yeah, no kidding. ITV HD were in ads when the game started. In.Excuse.Able.
They weren't in ads, there was a technical glitch...
Yes, I do feel partly responsible.
#sorryEngland
Glitch or no glitch, inexcuseable.
I'm not saying it wasn't, but you made it sound like they started the match running adverts when that wasn't the case, it's happened before with the FA Cup as well so stupid ITV
Watching England fail in that Nike commercial. I wonder if that is a sign?
Ooooooooooh ITV are using Jonsi within their world cup production! #win
Is it wrong that England's best player, has been Heskey?
He has played very well, very odd.
Ronal...DOH!
:)
This isn't right, maybe I was onto something when I said he would score twice.
JAMIE!!!!
Oh god, please. Please no.
Carra for King, knee gone again?
:P
Phew, it's a show after the match. No Corden during the football please
Dr Who is gonna be a challenge
am back
This week is going to be so packed here.
You missed Jamie's entrance! :(
They swapped ends. Confused now.
Should be as clear as black and white. :P
They always do that!
They normally do that. Watch any competitive football match and it always happens.
Lennon. That was beautiful
i prefer drums to hooters. more drums please.
No one there? Miscommunication up front.
But I have spent 45 minutes hoping the ball would stay to the right. Now I want it at the left. Weird.
It makes me want to dance.
sit down
Hopefully brazil will bring plenty of samba spirit
wooops offside.
Stand up.
Yay Jamie!
Great save by Tim
HESK..oh, nearly.
Oh Heskey. You should have at least passed it to Rooney. :(
Nah, had every right to have a shot.
Agreed.
Also, twitter is really annoying me tonight regarding england fans, grr.
Are they actual fans or are they silly people watching the world cup?
usa are lacking racing pace :)
It was obvious he wasn't confident approaching the goal. Shot straight ahead without really looking up.
Evening all
No idea but they're criticising everything even the positives and it's annoying
:D
hey steven
Good evening. Enjoying the football?
is that pearce on the bench?
Boo. I think it's fabulous.
Dave?
How do you know him? Yes it's Stuart Pearce
Either assistant or coach, can't remember
he might have kicked a ball really high at a crucial moment... once?
Tall man missed heading the ball. :D
luddite ;)
is he rolling another fat one?
He might have kicked a ball really low close to the keeper... once
Haha. "20 year old up against a 32 year old and the 32 year old wins on pace." GOOOOO Jamie!
I seem to remember that
ahh yes. him!
How bad was the keeper for the goal RG? I missed it but he was getting pelters on the radio?
There are poptarts in the cupboard!!
It was bad but it was my fault.
He made a howler. It was an easy save to make but he fumbled at it.
It was quite bad but people are being critical to him too much in general now because of it
He shouldve saved it though
Not really bad. Just a single stupid mistake. But I bet RG can illustrate it better.
How your fault?
I was giggling at him. Put him off.
That's a football technical term I don't understand
Christine distracted him
Merseysiders accumulating yellows. Must be the no-nonsense attitude.
we have strength in depth?
i can hear green from here
Now everyone is giggling at him. You are such a trendsetter
I transcribed that:
R.Green: ROOAOAAARRRRRRRRR
:)
Oh that was a good firm shot. Tim up to it though.
Frank!
Good strike, need to do more of that
Ooh, Betty.
GOOO GREEEN!
Fantastic save.
not that he's good or anything, like.
ahem ;)
Specially witth the wobbly ball.
I heard Bobby Gould complaining about the way the ball bounced today. Mr C could have been right
"Redemption for the West Ham goalkeeper."
Anybody'd think he did something really horrifying in the first half.
What? San Iker's proclamation wasn't proof enough in itself?
Bobby gould, there's a name. Bring him back to wales!
#toshackout
How is it fair that we have to play with one less person when someone is being treated who doesn't want to be treated because he got kicked in the face by someone else?
it just didn't bounce like a ball would normally bounce, to me. but then i haven't seen a ball bounce for about five years :)
It's not fair, because if we were to play with the same number of players he'd have to stay off the field for the rest of the game.
Don't they have to wait for a second? I thought that's what injury time was.
http://i.imgur.com/AFxQo.gif :)
Football rules on injuries don't make sense
:D
Where is David Beckham when you need him?
Oh yes, on the bench. :(
Injury time is time added at the end of each half due to time wasted for injuries. Also known as stoppage time, added time.
They only stop till they can get him off the field. He had a blood injury and with AIDS and stuff he has to stay off till he stops bleeding
AAAAARRRGGGGHH!!!
I was at a match today and someone had brought 50 of those to give people They are incredibly noisy close up
That makes sense.
gooohh
How goes it? What's the score? I can hear shouting, it doesn't sound happy!!
On sky sports they do fanzone where they have 2 fans commentating. We need to get mr and mrs c to commentate on there
Goodness, Rooney is playing
it's brilliant!!
1-1. Gerrard scored at 5 min. dempsey equalized at 40.
DO IT! :D
:)
He has been shocking. Non existant at times
Hah oh dear.
Yay for Jamie yet again. I am liking this match purely for the amount of times I can see him.
We need just a tiny bit more Beckham, and it'd be all good.
lots of yellows in this match
Not as good as the GT2 battle at sunset... :)
http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/1853/beckhamrage.jpg
:)
:)
eeevils
And then Rooney does that
That.Is.Awesome.
He looks like a kid put on the naughty step!
sooooo many photoshopping opportunities
:D
Rooney, critiscing works. YOUR RUBBISH.
Too much sport
Scotland are paying rugby now as well. I don't have enough heads to deal with all this
It does!
Rooney, you are just as bad as a Welsh striker
England, you are playing like a bunch of footballers. But with wages like normal people get.
ooooooooooooh.
Tim is to Rooney as Enyeama is to Messi
This Gerrard fella is quite good.
Rule number 1 of playing for England, don't set Heskey up in a goalscoring opportunity.
Edson Buddle!!! Fantastic name.
He is and has been for years
Just telling you now Fabio, bring Crouch on.
He is like a CAPTAIN. At club and country level. And won world player awards. And is called the best player by Zinedine Zidane.
England have a lot of pressure now. It is inevitable they will score
gotta be this time.. c'mon!
+1
♥
The tall man is being stripped apparently!!
Who was also very good.
Or let another goal in, y'know, either scenario that happens when England play.
:D
Crouch is on!
Crouchy!!
Wonder if he will do the robot if he scores
he is unfeasibly tall
Then headbutted an Italian in the chest
He is beautifully tall. I'm amazed he can keep his arms and legs in order, let alone play football as well.
He has to. Look at the occasion!
He's only 6"7. There are taller players
He can get a bit tangled up
Like Mr Tickle!
Can't sayI am overly familiar wit Mr Tickle
http://www.emotasia.com/wp-content/uploads/mr-tickle.jpg
BTW, found my favourite FANZONE clip. We really need a Sidepodcast version.
:D
You WHAT??
If Mr Tickle does the robot dance when he scores a goal and could grow longer legs they would be identical
... All fizzled out.
Much better Mr Beckham

Mean.
:D
Just give it to Lennon
Aberdeen?? A Scotsman playing for USA
he can jump :)
Go go gadget legs!
He's brilliant.
:D
We need to pick a Sidepodcast team of the tournament based on things like gadget legs
Yes!
I will start a wiki page.
we need that usa player with the beard.
Beard is not gadgety.
Go-go gadget face fuzz.
ahh.
Odds of a USA goal?
I will not be happy if England draw. They have had waaaay too many chances.
Not low.
I'll be happy if they scrape a draw. It's got awful scrappy.
If we can do gadgety great but you could have people just for odd reasons like that. Or a gadget team against another team picked for other reasons like facial hair and the like
You are talking like an expert already
Well, we know who'll be managing those.
Beard has not done anything special except have a beard that Nick Fry would be jealous of.
I vote Edson Buddle.
Linesman not a england-lover.
Mark Watson makes me feel better
I expect her to be on the Talksport debate after this one!
Diego sponsored by Grecian 2000
:D
Christine would make as much sense as most of them
A draw then, 1pt each
I guess Mr Capello is going to get slaughtered in the press tomorrow along with the goalkeeper
I thought that was good playing. I was worried we'd be rubbish, but we were alright except for the one mistake.
Booo for England (though expected). Yay for Jamie playing the whole 2nd half.
I just saw the beard man. He is no Alexei Lallas
cheers for a day of football commenting peoples.
any volunteers for tomorrows post?
He used to play for USA. That is a beard
http://www.shortlist.com/uploads/assets/alexeilalas.jpg
it's not an awesome beard. it's an improbable one.
like it doesn't suit his head at all.
Poor performance, Green played alright part from the mistake. Defence a bit disjointed, poor from King, Carra and Cole. Milner was lucky not to be sent off, Rooney exceptionally quiet.
On the plus side, thought Lennon, Gerrard and Heskey all played well.
Need to improve on finishing
Dream team: http://sidepodcast.wikia.com/wiki/Sidepoddreamteam_-_2010_World_Cup
Haved said you who Beard was.
Does anyone know who he is?
I would not have been able to spell that even if I'd known it :)
I had to check.
Christine,
Did you learn any new football terms today?
Why? Apart from that once, he out ran the US attackers throughout the match despite never being fast in the first place and over 5 years older.
Erm, I don't think so. Mr C came up with some new swear words, if that counts?
Lotsof those in football
I don't think he's the best defensive option. He didn't seem on the pace. I don't think it helps, Daws better (slight bias0
I think you mean very, but I forgive you since Jamie got to play while Dawson didn't. :P
Tshabalala deserves a place. I think.
Oooh yes, I forgot!
Done :)
Yay. ;)
News for Spain: Andreas Iniesta close to full fitness. Likely to feature in 1st match together with recovering Torres.
Not tomorrow (or actually today for me) since I have church. But I can do monday's or any weekday's.
Ace, thank you :)
It's looking worryingly like I might have to write tomorrow's World Cup post. That can't be good!
Here, let me give you something to get you started:
"Meanwhile in South Africa, some men kicked a football around a bit."
Shouldn't need much more than that.
