Monday morning sees us dive headlong into another week of launches and testing, but things don't get underway until tomorrow when we have a Force India launch, and Wednesday when the Jerez test gets going. For now, we have to keep ourselves occupied by other means. Here are some of the things we're talking about:
- The doohickey has changed ever so slightly, well quite a major change, really. If you're reading this in the doohickey, then success! We have made the post content for each active thread show up in the doohickey itself, above the comments. The idea is to fend off the many questions we get regarding information that is in the post itself, try and stop the time-consuming thread confusion, plus add video streaming functionality. The design is nowhere near complete yet, but let us know your thoughts on the functionality for now.
- We recorded the weekend's F1 Debrief yesterday, so keep your eyes peeled for the edited show later today. To make up for the lack of live show, we have started to host a thread dedicated to Giggles Radio. You can read more about the first ever guest broadcast on Sidepodcast on the introductory thread.
- Stuart has blogged about his brand new book, which he's been working on for aaaages, and been keeping us updated on his progress throughout. It looks like it is available as soon as February turns into March, so I hope it is on your wish list. It's certainly on ours!
That should do it for now, let us know how your weekend went, and what you're up to for the rest of the week, and I will see you in the comments.
I am at work watching this super bowl thing. I dont know what is happening or any of the rules, but im enjoying it!
You are a day ahead of the rest of us. I think I will move to your day.
You can expect the Saints to throw lots of passes near the touchlines now so that they can stop the clock on every play
It's halftime!!!
We get to halftime. The Saints may have been the better team that quarter, but they're still behind by more than a FG.
Good to see we still have a game. I have seen superbowls where teams were 20 or 30 points down by now and the game was over
So Lukeh what do you make of your first superbowl?
I dont know much but those dudes were not the who!
It's all good fun, lots of people falling over and nasty looking falls, and lots of numbers.
What dudes? The Who haven't been on yet. It takes a few minutes to get the stage and stuff set up
#sidepodspace
NASA are filling up the shuttle's petrol tank for another launch attempt. No comment on weather so far but given how good they are at forecasting it that is no great loss.
8 hours 15 minutes till launch time
There are lots of things to try and get to grips with but at least you have an interesting game. Sometimes these games are ridiculously one sided
they just showed some random band on espn
who do we want to win by the way? I enjoy sport more when i have a team to get behind
We haven't seen any band. i guess they put on a warm up act while the construct a stage that is half the size of the field
I want the blue guys to win
I like the Colts. I am a Manning fan.
You are really getting to grips with the technicalities
The Who are on now
woo who time! I like that i have seen these dudes before. Baba oreilly live was a highlight of my 2009
We have Mr Daltrey's autograph because he chatted up my mum in a bar in the 60s. If only I were 20 years older...
Yes, play the theme to CSI: Miami, why don't you? :D
If you want to back the reconstruction of New Orleans go for the Saints (who apparently helped morale).
Or if you're a racing nut go for Indianapolis because of the 500.
I'm surprised the BBC aren't pixellating out the Bridgestone ad
Might be part of the rights deal.
I think that will be in the contract
That drummer looks far too sane for a Who drummer
He looks like Nigel Tufnell, which is ironic
its not their fault that csi stole all their best songs
It's like a musical namedrop. Play the CSI: Miami theme in Miami. ;)
Oops. They're in Vegas now.
I still don't think they look right without Keith Moon. He was a proper drummer. Barking mad as well
Is that one of the Ade Edmondson's mates on drums
grr when will i learn who is playing at the gp. It is only 6ish weeks away!
Tis true. The man was truly one of his own :)
Do you know Joe is doing a meet Joe night on the Monday after the race?
Did you know Animal in the Muppets is based on him?
I've heard people mention it but I never knew for sure
i did indeed. I hope a large amount of spc folks will be there.
You've already bought tix?
Oh, THIS is the CSI: Miami theme. They started with NY, then Vegas.
grr journeyer grr
:D
What did I say?
no, tickets arent on sale yet
it took all my willpower not to hit people at their gig who referred to everything in csi terms :D
:P :D
Uh oh, the drummer is ringo starr's son.
#keepmrcaway
But in Miami?? It's a musical namedrop! ;)
No kidding?
That's Zak? Who knew?
Peter Richardson, that's who I was tryin to think of
The Comic Strip were great
Indeed.
Agreed
And they're done.
Nice.
Anyway, will try to get a bit more sleep before going to work. ;)
See ya in a bit.
I think Springsteen last year was better
OK, enough for me. Have to be up at 8, so I need sleep. I have learnt (seriously!) a bit about american football tonight :P night!
Good night again
Night Lukeh
See ya guys.
I know I should go about now but I can't help wanting to stay a bit longer
springsteen was better. He slid and everything.
Be fair he is not 70 years old
this is true. I am not 70 and I cant slide.
i want one of those headsets
You just need to get a coach's job in the NFL and you not only get one but you have to wear it
Incredible start to the 2nd half
That was a good one
i have a serious question: why do they know what stadium they will play the super bowl in about 3 years in advance? Why dont they wait and see who the finalists are then play at one of the home grounds?
That wouldn't be very neutral would it
Superbowl is such a huge event and there is so much that goes on around it that they have to plan that far ahead.
Sometimes its not neutral
Well, agreed but that's by sheer fortune
How do they choose the venue?
Yes although I think it motivates some teams to know that they will have a superbowl in their own stadium
What a pass
No idea. Being American sport probably by the COmmunist method of every team having a shot in rotation
neutrality doesnt matter in all the other sports i watch! Steven makes sense though, it does seem like a huge event! Everything I know about it I learned from American sitcoms.
When it is a one game final ideally it should be neutral
Eeek! Spoilers. I'm recording superbowl, so I better run away.
That's the way to react to losing the lead
There's a lot to be said for games that play this long and don't end up with zero points or goals all round
Football, I'm looking at you!
i have to compare everything to rugby, its all i know! My team never got a home final :(
Sorry Paul but we are live commenting it. We are only in the daily thread though so you could use the lclt to browse/comment on other threads
:D no worries. It's not like I'm a fan. Once a year only.
Where are the Patriots anyway?
Watching like the rest of us
they place bids, apparently
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superbowl#Selection_process
LOL.
Onteresting
Commercialism wins again
So a bit like the teams then?
Seems like the two teams spread around the country. You never get one team dominate for very long.
Damn, late night, keyboardless typing
Nice!
Nothing wrong with being onteresting.
Last quarter is gonna be great
This could go to overtime.
speaking of us sports i would like to complain about the time zone in california. The tennis there this week starts at 7pm which is 2pm here and i will be at work missing it.
They advertise the ads?
Well Grrrrr. I had planned to leave on Monday. This will mean another night in Melbourne.
Time zones are a problem
Stupid globe. I recommend flat worlds.
I thought there was more Pacific than that
There aren't many countries in it though
No I meant the timezone, I'm surprised Melbourne to California is 5 hours when New York to London is 5 hours.
Manning going for 4th down???
Outstanding
I'm reading that Google had an ad in the last Super Bowl commerical break...
I assume for their phone
Don't know
Nope, just their search engine
Parisienne Love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnsSUqgkDwU
Wonder why they feel the need to advertise that. Bing?
Just brand awareness, I guess
Bing is not a threat, Google have fingers in too many pies now
Woo hoo!
I would have thought that if there was one thing on the planet that didn't need to be advertised it was Gooogle search
I think it was an 'aren't we great' thing
Why was there no extra pointer?
If they go for a touchdown after the touchdown instead of a kick they get two points rather than one and that would level the score
i could also blame work for not showing the tennis, they only show some 250 tournaments and they dont show them live. Why buy the rights and not use them!
Never knew that
Sorry. That puts them 7 points ahead which means if the Colts get a touchdown and the point after they only level the score
Doesn't happen very often. Usually only near the end of a game when there is a situation where one point makes a difference
O knew what you meant. It's hotting up
'I' & 'O' are too close to each other :)
I think The Saints have earned a win
Too early to say who will win
Absolutely
I'm gunning for em though
Every time I see a player lying flat out I think of Jerry McGuire
I'm glad the BBC have coverage
Jake's doing a good job and the guests aren't annoying either
Mike Carlson is brilliant.
Game over
i havent worked out which team is in blue and which is in gold. Watching on mute is hard.
That's gotta be the winner hasn't it?
Colts are in blue
Never seen it
Just the two famous bits. "You had me..." & "Show me the money!"
Unsurprisingly, Twitter just melted :)
His client decides he is not getting enough attention so he gets a touchdown and a huge hit so he lies like he is out cold then gradually comes round and the crowd go crazy and then he gets the big contract he was looking for.
Twitter's as flaky as a paranoid spy in Moscow
Shane for the game to end that way
Shane?
and the colts are indianapolis? I think i finally get it. As it ends.
You are ready for the game to start now
Yup
coverage here goes for another 90 minutes so im sure ill see all the highlights again. Then after that there is tennis on. Its lame womens but ill watch it anyway :D
Your work sure does show a lot of sport on tv
After the geam you have interview sith everyone in America and then the trophy presentation and the MVP presentation
It's a satellite TV company
That'd do it
That was a dumb foul
sometimes i dont watch sport. On friday i watched the spice girls movie. It was awesome.
It really was
!!
The Colts are getting no luck
That's it all over now
Good game
Surprisingly enjoyable, and a great come back
Really good quality game and only I think two penalties in the whole match.
Right, I'm off
Till tomorrow folks
#sidepodspace
Just before I disappear off to bed. The shuttle is due to launch in 6 and a half hours and weather is 60% chance of being good.
Amy you can be in charge of covering the launch.
that was good. I wonder what the next hour will be.
Good night all
I'm off too, see ya..
ooh looked up at the tv to see mr alonso in his red overalls. This is not superbowl!
ah this appears to be a motor show. I have moved on from ferrari through a mclaren launch and now to mercedes. There is a schumi on my tv, nooooo
:D That isn't so bad.
Our SE Asia broadcaster is using the Schumi angle to promote F1 2010. Like it or not, he'll be the major attraction at least at the start of the season.
i guess there is no major attraction for us here, i have seen no f1 promo at all. Perhaps it will start when they take down the tennis ads :D
there's still tennis ads?!
FWIW, Melbourne isn't for another... 7 weeks?
Morning.
Off to a course today so I won't be around until this afternoon.
I have a suggestion for the doohickey - I love the new layout a lot, but what I love most about it is that I can finally read the top part on my iPod without flipping it on it's side. Any chance we can have that narrower column width for the whole thing?
Cheers and see you later ;)
I am already working on ways how to avoid our SE broadcaster this season. I am afraid it will be VPN and BBC for me in 2010
Too much Schumi love for your liking? ;)
My suggestion: ESS video + BBC audio (and their video too when ESS is on a break).
We may not like the commentary so much, but I don't wanna sacrifice the video quality unless I need to.
BTW, are you watching F1 Classics Series 2?
See ya Gavin.
i am assuming the tennis is still up but i guess it has been a week already. 7 weeks really isnt long when you have thousands of tickets to sell!
I think i will be doing the same, my arabic just isnt good enough!
very true, dat.
^^ things you never expect to read on an f1 site
:)
it's on the list.
although, is it too early to say "get an ipad"? ;)
:O
Amy, I'm in shock. Utter shock.
Well, maybe not utter shock. You could've watched From Justin To Kelly... :D
yes. :P :D
Morning, Mr C. Up early?
trust me if from justin to kelly was ever on one of our movie channels i would be watching it!
Yegads! :O
Sometimes, I swear you like watching movie trainwrecks... :D
i know, and there's no testing today either.
the video quality is horrible as well, so not that much to sacrifice
I watched only one of the shows right at the beginning , the Slater Yoong comment combo did enough to make me stay clear of future shows :-)
really? it's pretty good with mine. it's no HD, but it's still way better than web streaming.
They're actually doing less Schumi-centric races now. They did Donington 1993 (with Senna's start) last week. They're doing Canada 1999 (birth of the Wall of Champions) this week and France 2000 (TV debut of DC's middle finger) next week...
indeed. which is why i found it most odd.
I had better picture from BBC over interent than from Star Sports on TV
i watched three minutes of the superbowl and fell straight to sleep. i guess i'm well rested now :)
that is some crappy cable provider you have there... is the issue only limited to that channel?
hahaha! i'm surprised the noisiest production on TV today put you to sleep. :D
heh!
:P it's true! hehehehe. :D
between V-Day and the Lunar New Year, there'll be a lot of food and merry-making this week... :)
ooh breakfast. brb.
few more channels are similar, but most are good, I blame ESPN , as always :-)
here the flower people are crying. Lunar New Year and Valentines day fall on same day this year, one less opportunity to rip people off with overpriced flowers :-)
So it's all Rupert Murdoch's fault now? :D
I think it is the commentary that pollutes the feed :-)
One wonders how he's managed to stay at his job...
Morning one and all.
:D Hehehehehe. It's the Year of the Tiger - which is my year. ;)
New greeting! :D
Hey, Christine. :)
that shows you how that station cares about quality of their F1 broadcast ... no practice sessions, loads of adds even in the middle of Q1 , lousy commentary, no proper pre-show on TV etc ...
I have said it before. Not for a while though. Fancied a change.
#sidepodspace
No Steven, it seems, so just a quick update. Looks like the launch is a GO.
i guess you don't count Raceday as a proper pre-show? :D i tend to skip that for the BBC pre-show nowadays anyhow. :)
hullo.
Has this tweet from Maurice Hamilton last Friday been brought up?
I guess that means they'll be using the Campos-Dallara chassis - at the very least as a way in?
Which reminds me... any word yet on who the F1 Commissioner would be? It won't be Michael Schumacher now, for sure. ;)
hehe. it was only maurice who claimed that, right?
that and a few other rumour-mongerers...
it did make sense on a level or two, though.
also from Maurice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-8PBx7isoM
Talk about an ad with a real impact. I like it. A lot.
Great ad. I just can't believe anyone doesnt use seat belts.
A bit like bike helmets
Has Mr C officially changed his hours?!
not intentionally. but f1 launches and testing tend to exist on european time.
shall revert to normal next month i'd image :)
I think people usually use it, but that's still not good enough. People always have to use it.
hehe. Sneaky.
Nice doohickey work by the way
Hmmm. It's just automatic for me. Actually, I feel funny driving without a seat belt on
Me too. I don't move my car until everyone has their seatbelt on. Can't imagine why anyone would do different.
I did actually meet someone who wouldn't use a belt. SHe considered it "her right", which it wasn't, being the law to sue one.
Morning everyone
Hey Lukeh. :)
yo!
Sharing my 2 favorite Super Bowl ads with you guys. The first one is from Coke:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnUKurl7Fog
I don't, they simply recycle the videos that everybody can see online anyway and mix that with shots of Paula Malay Ali and Sanjay Palar ...
The second one is from Google.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnsSUqgkDwU
youtube has blown my mind. There are 135 episodes of Whose Line is it Anyway on there!
morning
That is true. They could solve that problem if they'd send someone to the races. Which they weren't even able to do last year.
well, thay only broadcast to 2 billion people or so, sure they can't afford to send people to race, can they ...
quick plug for joe, he has a new header, a huge spc logo and an ace post:
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/02/08/interpreting-the-formula-1-rules/
what more can one ask?
joe is the gift that keeps on giving. :)
Wahoo!
an even bigger logo? :P
Although I tried to get time off work to go to his evening. Sadly, no luck :(
not sure how good sources Wil Buxton has, but he is suggesting that Petrov's seat may not be secure yet as his father is yet to pay up Renault ...
Another Red Bull header?!
the last one was ferrari, wasn't it?
I just meant in general, over he interwebs
boo :(
link please. :)
We trust Will, so there may be something to it.
ahh yes. they are one of those teams that don't annoy anyone.
Franck in please ;)
agreed.
#sidepodspace
T-2 minutes for Endeavour launch
petrov story
Only thing I would say is that I would prefer the post content to be moved to the top - changing thread and the filter are a long way from the discussion.
Personally, I preferred it the old way though. Could it default to being visible but be hide-able? Or is that more or less going back to how it was?
#sidepodspace
lift off, looking good...
considering they made the decision the day of the launch it was a very last minuted choice.
What worries me is, I'd rather see him with that drive than his potential replacements.
Jerome d'Ambrosio is too raw a talent right now, I think. And Ho-Pin Tung... no thanks.
pretty easy actually, can do that this evening.
the choice may have been there for a while, the money promise probably was last minute ...
If you move the thread change below the post, doesn't that negate the point?
according to Christian Klien (i think) the final choice was made within 24 hours of the launch.
oooh. good point.
Putin wrote a letter of support. Putin is as good as a backer you can get anywhere in Russia, so I'm surprised almost no one has given or lent him any money.
What was wrong with the old system? Perhaps it just needed making clearer that you could view the post by clicking active thread? "Active thread" as a link wasn't intuitive.
#americascup
Oh yeah! Is there streaming???
Oooh. When does it start?
#americascup
If anybody is interested, live feed for the first race is on. race postponed for the moment (lack of wind)
www.americascup.com
Drat for me having work this time of day. :(
Do share the live link for the others.
cool, I love these boats
but at least there are good images of the two yachts...
It's not just about reading the post though.
grrr why do they use some different streaming system I have to dwonload?
press medium resolution
I would love to see it in HD, but my internet connection barely keeps up with the medium resolution one...
Thanks guille. Those boats are amazing!
based on what I remember from the last America's Cup, these boats look VERY different. guille's story about legal disputes really makes sense now.
hehe. We're not in Kansas any more
They need about 20 knots and these things will fly
in my TV (ESPN) are showing 2007's last race. one of the best endings on the history, 1 sec. at the finish line...
they fly with 10-15 knots, reaching real speeds of 30-40 knots...
WooHoo. I would love to be on one
one of the crewmen of Alinghi said the other day that with 15 knots 'it starts to be scary'... :-)
I can imagine. I saw a world speed record set, 50 kots in 22knots of wind. That looked very scary
Seems that someone associated with GMM sent me a load of sales guff through my contact page on my website last night. Doesn't this come under the header of 'spam,' and surely I could bring the matter up with their ISP?
It's not the same without Black Magic. :(
Americas Cup is now New Zealand's cup!
:-) well, the core of the two crews are basically two New Zealand crews paid by a Swiss and an American. Black Magic has certainly left it's mark...
I didn't noticed, that's Valencia's circuit on the left! (and the open bridge in the middle)
Oh true
funny enough, the answer to that question is covered in the daily post... isn't it?
essentially, the problem was no-one was reading content of the posts and we spent all day answering the same questions :)
So what's all this about the doohickey changing then?
:)
I like it. The scrolling makes it work fine.
do not get me started on Mr Russell Coutts. Grrrrr.
I'm used to it now
Stuff about iPods: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/02/08/magic-touch/
I was on mobile doohickey all day so didn't get what the fuss was about. But now I am here, I like it too.
:-)
(I guess some of your opinions are maybe not family-friendly...)
mobile page may change in a similar way too.
oh, that I might not like. I have a very small screen!
i know. will be trial and error, but the other day alison couldn't see the posts at all. so it's on the list.
good good.
oh... very nice!
the pressure for getting some apple gadget is very high here... :-)
I was just thinking. I'm technically on my 9th ipod (+iphone)
good campos insight: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/02/08/the-future-of-campos-meta-1/
ups...
problems or just natural change?
Change and a gadget head. I chased the ipod classic from 15GB to 80GB. (plus nanos, touches.....)
blimey, 3 i think: classic > shuffle > touch
Senna should quickly sign with somebody else or he will be left out in the last minute like last year .... ooops, but with whom ? the only alternative left is the Toaster F1 ...
3 here - classis, bigger classic, iphone :-)
hehe.
15, 20, 30, 40, 60, 80 GB classic
4, 8 GB nano
2 x touch (although one was warranty)
I'm on 2. ipod nano 4th Gen (which was damaged when i got very angy) and the ipod touch. i can't live without the touch now.
I'm only on my second and that took enough thinking just to jump from nano to touch!! I heart my touch though...
I went classic>classic>classic>classic and then I vowed I'd never get another one because that final time the warranty had ended.
the touch has wi-fi? it's gaining points on my head...
Sounds like rotten luck. Although I could tell stories about Macbooks.....
yes and no... this bit wasn't really: :-)
The daily thread isn't too bad as they're short ('change active thread' and the first comment still won't fit on the screen at the same time for me though) commenting when there is a long blog article with pictures and embedded feeds that is part of the current discussion is a different matter - try "Virgin Reveal Brand New VR-01" for example
me no like scrolling ;-)
I'm kind of thinking of a day like this coming Wednesday: Red Bull launch, testing and the daily thread will mean more swapping between threads
Anyway, that's my two cents
yes, but so will the ipad :D
sometimes I'm tempted to go back because it seems every single other mp3 manufacturer tops out at 16gb these days and I need moooore. But I won't go back because it made me so angry.
stefan only have one driver at the moment, don't they?
It would what with it being a giant ipod touch ;)
but it cost more than the double...
and I already have a netbook :-)
they do not have entry...
Well, thats debatable ;)
agreed. that'll be an issue, and i can see myself opening several tabs which does defeat the point.
however, you've no idea how much time we waste moving comments between threads. if we can reduce that workload i'll be a much happier person.
but i can't fit the ipad into my pocket now, can i? :P
My 80 has been going for year now. I have to have all my music in my car
dom Joly can!
true enough.
Bigger pants?
not sure which one driver you mean - the Nakajima boy rumoured to go testing with them in Portimao, or that wrong Schumacher that Toyota signed few years back ?
wasn't kaz confirmed? or was that just a rumour?
Rumour
yesterday I had the doohickey open to read all the comments and change between threads, and the lclt to see radio giggles
hehe.
i am tempted to make my own ipad: http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/make-your-own-paper-ipad-08-02-2010/
don't know if these stats are correct but:
Autosport needs this new stream - monthly print sales fell from 61,025 to 34,442 between 2000 and 2008, losing about 4,000 readers each year.
bloomin'eck!
http://paidcontent.co.uk/article/419-autosport.com-subs-quadruple-on-appetite-for-f1-news/
in my head it was fact. doh!
Speaking of, have they started the electronic subscription yet?
On the stefan GP website it just says they have a driver with 2 years experience. so it's confirmed they have a driver, just no confirmation it's awful kaz.
although it probably is.
not yet.
and it's some stupid format right?
Is that including 2000 and 2008 or just the years inbetwen?
nothing confirmed. it was in flash format before.
grrr. They need to talk to Joe.
don't know. i'm not a member of abc.org and can't check sadly.
ah ok. i imagine it is then because i make the figure to be 3797.
this from GrandPrix.com on Ralf:
Flash. So no ipad reading.
What is a lad to do?
Not surprised. Why pay for outdated info? Esp. for what was originally created as a weekly newsmagazine. They're no Time or Newsweek, that's for sure.
But they've found something people are willing to pay for. And it's literally paying off for AUTOSPORT.
that still only gives them another 3,000 readers. i thought us giving up buying, made as the minority, not the majority.
YEEEEY RALF!!!!
morning all :D
My opinion on stefan has dropped. Lots.
but Lukeh!!
RALF!!!!
what's worrying, is that ralf rates stefan, but wouldn't consider usf1.
just how bad are usf1??
AHHH!
Saviour of the universe!!
I'm really hoping Senna's people are talking to Stefan and to USF1 in case things fall apart...
I wouldn't rate Ralf opinion very high....
I confused myself working it out in excel. so i closed it :)
they must have realised this before now, i'm suprised the digitial version wasn't done sooner.
to paraphrase.....
"i'd rather go with a team with no entry, than one iwth an entry who are rubbish"
Very good point.
Stefan does have Toyota's assets, though (including some of its people). And Ralf knows them pretty well.
and probably would pay him, and usf1 not...
toast ...
:D :D :D :D
it must be worrying for f1racing. no idea what those figures are like, but i can't see bernie allowing something called f1racing to do an online edition.
ever.
Why not? They sell internationally.
on what grounds could he stop them?
it has "f1" in the title.
f1 racing's current homepage says:
F1, FORMULA 1 and FORMULA ONE are trade marks of Formula One Licensing BV. Used under licence from Formula One Administration Ltd. All rights reserved.
they can't do it without his permission. at least i can't imagine that they can.
it's always had f1 in the title? and i thought f1 wasnt actually a TM?
they've been around for years, an online version would be no different
wasnt there some big court battle about this that bernie lost?
Didn't know that
for f1, yes. he genuinely owns the Formula One trademark though i think.
so if its F1 racing? is that ok?
i don't think it's as simple as saying it's called "f1 racing" so that's fine.
bernie clearly sanctions the magazine in some way, and i cannot see him agreeing for it to go virtual any time soon.
but i could be wrong.
i get the point and you're probably right, but from my pov, there is no difference between the online and paper version, but if bernie should one day wake up and realise that the online community, whether blogs, magazines, forums or whatever, are helping f1....that day will be a good day
Trademarks dont give legal rights, for that he needs the copyright which he cant get.
Haymarket pay him a tidy sum to cover f1 according to his biography, so i am sure it would be sorted
i don't know what you're saying? you think bernie will allow "f1 racing" to go virtual?
legally there's a huge divide though.
we still receive images today, that we can't used online because sidepodcast is available to view on mobile devices. and that's a digital/digital divide, not even a paper/digital one.
and f1.com is still trying to sell you mobile wallpapers:
http://digitalstore.formula1.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=49
annoyingly stupid. unfortunately, 'common sense' isn't common :-)
sports rights are incredibly profitable. profit = greed and geed > common sense.
I'm impatient.
What size iPod Touch did y'all get?
Why not wait for an iPad? Win lotto?
i got the cheapest 8gb model and christine has the bigger 16gb.
we needed another touch because there's no way on earth christine can hold an ipad in one hand out of shot, to control the proprompter. the touch is just about the right size.
we could've got a pad and used it in this configuration, but we can't afford the $1,000 bracket. so we'll stick with x1 touch mounted thus and x1 in christine's hand.
cheapest teleprompter in the world.
out to a class. see you later
Hi everyone,
#368 - me said:

I thought mobile devices were in the same category as computers.
I have learnt this morning, in Client Server computing, that Pancake Day is also known as Fat Tuesday. Excellent.
I wish we could win the lottery. I suppose not actually doing it hinders our chances somewhat.
Not greatly. You have very little chance even if you enter
Can't you ask them very nicely for a sidepodgrant? :P
hey will. depends on who's supplying the content.
when we buy pics from getty.com for example, we have to specify usage. mobile use is a separate option from web, although thankfully it no longer affects the pricing.
it is though considered to be different. lord knows how or why.
The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 13,983,816.
That's not too bad
#delirious
what are the odds if you don't buy a ticket?
0 in 13,983,816?
ahh
Not bad odds at all!
booo my day off tomorrow is ruined, ruined! Because I have to wait for Mr Repair Man to come and fix our lock. I want to go to ikea :(
How do you use a treadmill in space?
Velcro?
for some reason, i pictured (in my head) that the ipad would be mounted as you do the iPod Touch now, and it would simply use the same application, just pixel doubled (or quadrupled?), leaving christine to control it from your iPod Touch.
It would never stay up!
but they don't make the 3rd Gen in 16GB! Don't tell me you bought a 2nd Gen! :P
You mean they don't make it in 8GB. :)
nope! the 3rd gen comes in 8, 32 and 64. The 32 and 64 come with a faster processor than the 8, and the headphones have remote and microphone.
I have an ex-Mr C model.
Mr C's downgraded?
...Really? I thought it came in 16, 32, and 64. Oh well.
Mr C doesn't have 600+ podcasts to listen to!
One careful owner. Case may have a slight pink discolouration ;)
Heheh :)
is that lipstick on your ipod? what have you been up to!
i don't have any podcasts to listen to.
You are up to date?
nope. i don't really listen that way any more.
f1 minute i listen to in browser, leo, i catch live shows when i can.
There hasn't been a goforodd for a while... But of course that could be in browser.
It's all about commuting for me that causes me to consume that way.
agreed. at the moment, i'm hardly doing any.
and your live shows, are... well live.
they is like well live!
same here.
one day, all the shows i want will be on ustream viewer (or similar) on the iPhone/iPad and most of the train part of my journey can be video as well
does ustream do Apple?
selected streams only atm.
the AGPC listened to my complaints about not knowing who the concert is. This doesn't really top Kiss and The Who.
Powderfinger? Who they?
Simple Minds seem to be becoming regulars at F1 concerts...
It'll be good to see justin.tv on the iPhone.
I actually really, really like Powderfinger and have always wanted to see them perform so I am happy about that. But I don't think anyone outside of NZ/Australia has ever heard of them.
am betting alex has...
Really hoping that comes sooner than later.
Perhaps you will like the video link at the bottom of this page:
http://www.apple.com/au/retail/pastevents/
they toured the US with Coldplay so in my mind this means Lou would like them.
Quick question, does the grid always start with number one on the left or right or does it depend?
depends. I think. I remember outrage on some tracks when it got changed after qualifying?
oooooh. They played Melbourne about 3 days after I moved here and I was excited, but it was sold out. And then they did those free concerts they announced on twitter but I was at work when they happened.
the fastest route to the first corner should get 1st position.
It's usually where the racing line is (so there's always grip at the pole position box), but there are some exceptions (like Spa, where pole is on the inside line of the tight La Source hairpin).
Must sleep. Bye for now.
Night Jeremy.
i bet there's a regulation somewhere.
ALIAAAAAAAAA!!!
Afternoon all.
Had a very odd morning. Blog post coming up.
Explaining this would be long and boring, but the short answer is that the magazine uses the F1 name under licence, the terms of which explicitly preclude online content.
PS Told you Petrov was skint...
yay.
Well, the question is answered to my satisfaction anyways. Thanks all :)
:)
fact!
http://sidepodcast.com/2010/01/20/pity-the-f1-fool/#comment-660112
I need a name for a story about F1.
Preclude meaning you can use it online? You do have a website, right?
target age group?
Ooh crikey. Erm... I always assume I am the only person in the world who would like what I write, so... me?
:D By necessity rather than choice.
Makes those rumors of 20M backing seem outrageous now though, doesn't it?
alexxxx!
You were always going to do that :)
i tried :(
Hm, wonder where Senna will end up when Campos goes bust.. :)
I think he would in return for a payment, but it seems that autosport are going to be there content outlet, their already is 1 article a month on the go at the moment
He's not bringing any money, either, though. I'm guessing Petrov would be replaced by d'Ambrosio or Ho.
Ipads are sooo last week
Now you want a chrome tablet ;) http://dev.chromium.org/chromium-os/user-experience/form-factors/tablet
Afternoon, btw
of course. but not for a sensible or reasonable cost.
vapourware?
What if Petrov turns out to be really good? Will he keep his drive?
Nothing beyond taster content of what's already in the magazine...
will he even get the chance to race?
Good point..
Ahh. Which is why their content would be on AUTOSPORT if shared online?
They chose Petrov over Heidfeld. It's not so much about talent as it is about money.
very, very likely.
but senna doesn't have any either?
which is why i don't think he'd get the seat either if petrov can't. it'll be d'ambrosio or ho.
not sure how you meant to ask this, but yup, senna didn't pay for his seat. i don't think he's getting paid, either, though.
How much would they be willing to waive to get that surname? They'd get a lot more coverage and return with him..
Isn't Senna backed by Telmex?
Campos thought the same thing, though... Renault may be a different case (as they're an established name), but Senna may have already been found out.
he's keeping the money to pay himself though isn't he?
I thought so too, but I guess it's not worth that much. Certainly not enough for Campos' future to be secured.
didn't toyota try that with ralf?
campos aren't getting money from senna. just the use of his name.
or do i have that wrong?
what good your paying yourself do if you don't have a drive? surely that comes first?
It does confuse me why google have 2 OS systems on the go.
I guess apple do too, interesting that they have put the smartphone os on the tablet and google have gone for the desktop one...
you're kinda right. they aren't getting money from him, but they're hoping that his name would attract a lot of sponsors, which, from the looks of it, hasn't happened.
google don't make hardware, they didn't even design/build the nexus. the pitch on that page is nonsense.
i think so, but they didn't need it financially (they were paying ralf a lot). they needed it in an effort to gain credibility, which didn't quite work out.
i don't think the problem is senna's name. it's that f1 doesn't represent a valuable return for spend when it comes to marketing.
Toyota would of been better of keeping Mike Gascoyne.
Bruno isn't Ralf :)
he isn't ayrton either.
i guess that's true to a certain extent, but when people like schumacher and hamilton and alonso can attract what are effectively personal sponsors, it tells me that it still has to be valuable somehow.
Toyota always wanted to win their way. When they realized they couldn't, it was time to hit the highway.
have they had to renew agreements recently, or are they living on long term agreements>
hello?
no idea what their contracts are. but santander did follow alonso to ferrari, and that was just last year.
and me... I think I have an article about starting and publishing your work somewhere :)
True enough. I'd still rate him at Petrov's level or higher.
what's it about?
Good afternoon podcast fans
'ello...
As promised...

Super Bowl hangover?
Hello. :D
No, I haven't drunk all weekend
My last rest day before 7 lates starting tomorrow
Forgot to tell you all my what happened to me at the hairdressers story from yesterday. I managed to avoid the crazy woman from the other time (there's a goforodd video about that I think).
While I was there the Hope for Hati Everybody hurts cover was on. Two of the hairdressers were discussing it.
1: Who wrote this?
2: Simon Cowel?
1: No I mean originally
2: Oh i think it was E-R-M
ooops.
 innit!
ERM. Yeees, that's right.
:D
i love that cowell has now ben elevated to song writer status too.
Well done Saints!!!
:-)
he's a jack of all trades, isn't he? :D
!!
he's a master of none, that's for certain.
good enough to make millions, though.
annoyingly, yes.
The whole things just so wrong it was amazing.
At one point in the conversation one of them was talking about what she was going to do with her life, boyfriend / kid trouble etc.. The other one (1 from the earlier story) said, "I'll give you some advice... never go shopping when you're hungry"...
Nothing to do with things as far as I could see. Clearly just a bit of good advice as far as she was concerned.
He's not happy, his high trousers are a sign of discontent ;)
Maybe she meant, never go looking for a boyfriend when you want one? :D
You should have added 'don't wear hush puppies in the rain'
love it :-)
don't put a lightbulb in your back pocket.
Joe is saying that diffusers may play a part in the news at the beginning of the season again

eheheheh!
Check Bernie's trousers, quick
Jonathan Noble is sold on live reporting in his (subscription) column:
http://www.autosport.com/features/article.php/id/2617
i like that he says everyone's going to have to up their game now. 2010 will be excellent.
Really good to see it prompted them to discuss how to change things going forward. I'm excited.
there has to be a concern though that the information is leaking away from the site. i mean this year, we're clearly going to have to integrate this stuff into live commenting, so will we still need live.autosport.com?
To be honest I didn't use it during races anyway, what with comments, Twitter and live timing I had enough to digest and people would report what they'd said if it were useful.
I can seem the altering live.autosport.com to bring in twitter feeds from their people on the ground.
*see them
that would work well too.
Well, I don't know yet. I have a driver driving about a bit. The rest is to be decided. I probably shouldn't have asked. Rewind an hour or so and pretend that didn't happen.
if Mr Journeyer is around, I take back what I said earlier. I have just seen my first news report on the Grand Prix as it was "officially launched" today and they are apparently going to sell tickets "on the backs of two men," one of who happens to be German.
it worked for spa.
(he didn't race there either)
:D
I hope they don't plan to sell tickets on the back of Simple Minds. Did they have more than one song?
They were more than a little bit popular in their day [just not with me, apart from that song]
from wikipedia, it appears their day was well before I was born. Although you could say the same about Kiss and The Who I guess.
i have plenty of their tracks and air drummed along with them in person a few times. not so much anymore though.
I initially read that as 'with them in prison.'
Thought perhaps there was something you hadn't told me.
Doh! :)
I might have to do some research before I go along. Much like I am "researching" the backstreet boys.
:D
Afternoon folks. I'm feeling better today which unfortunately means back to work.
Hi Alison
:D and :(
I'm not there now though which is a major :D
ok, i'll come clean, i may have spent time in prison with simple minds, practicing air drum paradiddles.
i've carried that secret for such a long time, it's a relief to have it off my chest.
need some recommendations?
for the former, yes, for the latter no. I am watching this as we speak. Probably not good preparation though as I'm sure they've aged in the last 12 years.
Afternoon all,
Brundle Junior is back in F3.....interesting choice....
not f2?
Hello. Why's that Jon?
He's gone "back" a level, and it costs about 3 or 4 times as much.
So, will there be music at Spa?
Nope, im not sure what i think about it. Other than when drivers start going back a level it usually means any chance they had is over...
Why is the lower formula more expensive?
Sounds like a bad career move
its starting to look like Simple Minds just follow the races around, so they'll probably be there.
[facepalm]
F2 is a law unto itself, F2 has faster cars etc but because its all centrally run its just cheaper, its similar performance to WSR.
the band, much like spinal tap, can be defined by the speed they got through drummers. the most important drummer was mel gaynor, and he makes the rest of the band kinda insignificant, except that the singer was married to patsy kensit.
stuff from 1983 onwards is good. '85 featured that song. "alive and kicking" followed, and is a bit catchy. the albums "once upon a time" and "street fighting years" are good. "real life" was the last decent album.
last thing to check out is the song "she's a river". which came much later but the rest of the album sucked. the simple minds (sorry alex) really are an album band, but there must be a bunch of greatest hits kicking around.
:)
does f3 offer an f1 drive?
F2 was supposed to be the alternative feeder series wasn't it?
not as a prize no, but Brundle wont win either championship, so it wouldnt help him either way ;)
I love greatest hits albums. They make life so easy. I like them so much they are on my livejournal interest list sandwiched between "grand slams" and "guy smiley"
It's on the GP2/World Series performance level. I think it does a good job.
Interesting GP2 this weekend, were you watching Jon
Decent racing at Abu Dhabi, who'd a thunk it!
Nah, i've never seen any GP2 Asia races, i dont really know exactly why, but i have a thing abotu GP2 asia, i think its because you pretty much have to do GP2 Asia before the GP2 championship if you want to do well
Like warm-up races?
yeah, its basically pre-season testing for the main championship, but in race form...
that's a good idea.
it is yes, but its also very expensive, and with GP2 being extremely expensive, it means that drivers who can only just afford a GP2 season are on their back foot before they've even got in the car
although. i thought schumacher was official gp2 tester?
:)
nono, he was testing next years car, they replace it ever 3 or so years and give it minor upgrade each year in between
did someone link to this recently?
http://yzinn.blogspot.com/2010/01/ipaddiy.html
now making one: http://twitter.com/sidepodcast/status/8811394622
i don't have a camera with me though. if only steve jobs had been thoughtful enough to include one in the itouch.
I linked to one elsewhere. but its the same. I'm going to make one at some point :)
Ohhhhh, I want a go!
:)
Then you can do this
http://www.funnyordie.co.uk/videos/d2b714361c/hello
oh. Will there be one with camera (soonish)?
Traditionally, iPods get refreshed in September, after the Student offers end
Sometimes minor updates are released inbetween, who knows with Apple
He wants to work with a team and you can't do that in F2, and Brit F3 has a lot of testing.. which other series don't any more.
Sticky back iPad :)
Okay... I'll pretend... (sort of).
The title is the worst thing to start with. I tend to call my stories by the name of the first character that appears. And then later change the title - and sometimes I don't even bother (if that's any help).
A cool name for a racing driver should sound fast... Something like Scott Speed would be good but it sounds a bit unrealistic ;)
here's one steve made earlier.
Apart from the lack of GPS, I can't see any reason that would make me want a 3G model iPad
Ooh Alex,
I was looking into The Ukulele Orchestra and found they were on a Ministry of Sound album of 'cool cover versions'
Bet they didn't ever expect that!
am just happy i has the choice.
Of course
Am trying to establish if I need 3G and I dion't think I do.
Should mean I can get a larger capacity for around the same price
No doubt, revision 2 will be out within a year or so anyway
I have seen them live a few times. They are very good. If you get a chance they really do put on a show and are worth seeing. They did a proms last year.
Yeah, I saw threee albums of theirs including the proms performance
Me too... I think I am going to buy a Wifi version day 1. And then the 3G one on day one of that... Then Katherine can have the Wifi version :)
(note: more money than sense is probably accurate)
I might be close behind
:D
you're going to queue?
Unless they sell out, I'm sure lunchtime will be fine
depends on how many ship i guess.
Why is fiction so much scarier than regular writing?
With the iPhone you could get delivery first day. I'm hoping that will be true again.
I can't see myself queueing and I can't see demand being as high as for the iPhone launches. Sometime in the first week or so will be ok for me
Ahhh, queues!
?
...why aren't you working?
Inspiration has struck?
Why do people queue? Especially at Apple where they applaud you for turning up. Crazy times. I likes to shop in peace.
1) My guess is that the first time you ever wrote anything online that was yours it was scary but it was a long time ago so you may have forgotten
2) Because you are the famous "Christine off the internet" you know people will read this whereas before you got good at regular writing you probably didn't know if anyone would look
3) There is no way of actually being right with fiction. Should he climb the mountain or sit in the pub which is right? It's up to you. Whereas with the other kind of writing it is much more about, did this happen the way you said it happened?
The only way round this is to practice live out in the open :)
I am working. Balancing lots of lovely numbers. Was just asking the question.
This is just another way of saying START, isn't it? :)
Did I ever tell you about the time that I was looking at somebody's balance sheet to try and help them resolve a circular reference. I said, "what's that number"? They looked shifty, "umm... it's my balancing figure".
Sorry :)
An interesting piece on Parisian customer service, or lack of it
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/from_our_own_correspondent/8500246.stm
1 is probably true.
2 is not really a problem. People should know I talk nonsense by now.
3 is most likely it.
Yes. That happens.
Thought so... By the by... I have completely turned around on that one myself. I used to be like that when I started, but now I know that to write an article I have to do research and stuff, whereas when I'm making stuff up it's easier because I don't have to check anything. I imagine that changed for me by practicing the writing...
*ow ow stop hitting me* ;)
paper ipad ruuuulez
I can imagine...
Where's our picture?
Can you multi-task?
steve didn't give me a camera.
he must've preempted this exact situation.
Where's your Lumix?
Can you put 2 iTouches inside to get the effect?
no chance. the single button is in an awkward place though.
Normally, you're not allowed to get away with it unless you know why you have a balancing figure... even if you're not sure what to do with it yet.
that's a damn good question. although i has no ssd slot in an imac either.
Isn't this what accruals are for? Or am I wrong? People always tell me that I need to accrue things so everything is tidy.
USB/Firewire?
just weighing the correct amount of magnets to the get the right feel.
(going for the non-3g version)
Doesn't the computer you are using have a camera in it?
Ah ha!
the lumix has the stupid tinytinymicro usb hole.
And the cable for it?
oh yes!
doh!!
no idea :(
Web cam it is then
You accrue for something that you know should be paid for in this period but you haven't been able to put it through yet.
For example, a January invoice not received until February would be accrued in January figures. Likewise, an annual invoice can be accrued across the months to even things out a bit.
Here endeth the numbers lesson for today.
going to laminate the front to get the glass effect. then shall do.
So you're good with words AND numbers?
Is there anything Christine from the Internet can't do? :)
Hello, everyone.
does the dock rotate in real life? it looks odd sideways.
It does
write fiction... apparently ;)
I never said I was good with numbers. I just work with them is all.
w00t!
Hush. I've done it, I just have to gather enough courage to link.
although that means i may need to make more than one.
You shoulda been on Blue Peter.
you have to be good enough to work with them, right? :)
If you say so!
i've a whole new appreciation for printers.
For the next Sidepodradio, instead of baking something, you will have to make me a Tracy Island.
yes!!
Is it anything like this?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/large-ipad-jpg
i wish :)
Can't find many images of a landascape dock but here's one
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/landscape-ipad-jpg
They are a bit of a pain sometimes but I like them because it keeps things where they are supposed to be :)
not that some of the managers have cottoned on to the difference between invoice date and payment date...
Do it! Do it! :)
Come on we'll be nice :)
does it?
This is going to be hard without seeing him I think.
It can't be an harder than watching him make muffins without seeing him, can it?
*any
I guess not.
Plus, it'll be really fun to hear him freak out about the mess on his desk, what with sticky back plastic and toilet roll tubes everywhere.
That was just comedy genius
I think Bassano and Mr C are talking about different things. The home page is not the dock right?
The home page rotates, the dock is the thing you plug it into...
Or am I the only one talking about something different?
True! Hot melt glue gun?
i thought mr c was the numbers man ;)
Near his laptop??? Not a good idea.
no. we are talking about the same things.
No, the dock is the fixed apps at the foot of the screen, a la OS X
Imagine him with copydex on his fingers1
when on earth did blue peter use a hot glue gun?
Ah, happy school days ;)
Hey, Mr C, memorise this:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/classic/bluepeter/makes/tracyisland.pdf
except apple will no doubt argue differently, but what do they know? they don't even know they built an itouch.
I have just looked they do call those 4 at the bottom the dock on their site: http://www.apple.com/iphone/iphone-3gs/home-screen.html
sawdust?
Hooorah. All caught up, i may have fallen asleep....
I see Mr C is building a Tracy iPad
Find someone with a hamster.
:)
also: http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/
it's as you call it. clearly they ran out of catchy words.
Ask an adult (Christine) to help you :)
:)
We know this already. *cough* Genius *cough*
indeed!
:)
Afternoon all. I have had one of those Uni days again with my lecture notes - http://twitpic.com/122w9r
And you can't dock in landscape which seems mad!
i see cliff makes an appearance.
and steps...
Yes, that is a shame
Two charging ports wouldn't be the Apple way though
Oooh, pretty!
:D
Hey Lukeh
For a second I was worried there was no Muse... but it's there...
a bonus point for anyone who can tell me what the lecture was about
Software Engineering Processes
Something about Spiral something with software stuff. Or whatever. I think.
Okay, here goes:

Hopefully self-explanatory. Ten parts, you decide, etc, etc.
#BlameGiggles-HeToldMeToStart
oooh, very good
:D
*cough* titles at the top *cough*
Afternoon all.
I see NASA didn't wait for me and launched the shuttle
Alex, I 'm listening to the Wuthering Heights cover now
Hi Steven
another blog!?
Big meanies.
You've once again, blown my mind
wooohooo :) :) :)
well done Christine :)
Oh yeah! I did write a title! I forgot abou that, it blended in.
Reading it already, I am. ;)
Duly voted. :D
Let's see how this story goes...
:)
I haven't agonised that much over a comment since Cali Lewis was here.
wh... where... where did all of this come from?
*sits back in minor shock*
Hello all.
No idea, but I don't mind, seems to be good stuff.
Hehehe. Shockingly impressive, no? :)
We did sort of discuss it, but I changed it then wrote it, then published it, then thought about it for HOURS.
of course.
i voted.
we did?
I think the 2 things I've learnt today are..
1. There is no limit to the amount of blogs you can morally own....
2. When I read "The marshals were already beside him, signalling for the tractor to help them" i knew exactly what signal they were doing.
I am SO cool...hm
Milky Bar at the ready
I was telling you how disappointed I was that there were no Choose Your Own Adventure books about F1 and how I was going to write one.
Well, I didn't write one, I wrote this.
Awesome. Very brave. Well done :)
ohh yeah.
Choose Your Own Adventure books rocked my world back in the day.
It's a bit tough to write, what with all the possibilities, but it would be awesome if you did someday. :)
Me too
It's not so much the possibilities that are the killer, but the crossovers. The ability to join different threads from different starting points.
Its an awesome idea. and have voted and subscribed! :)
If it were me, I would get out and shake my fist at Barrowman!!! But that is why you are writing the story, not me :P
Ahhh. Indeed so.
Peoples, is there an RSS feeder reader program? Like Tweetdeck for RSS Feeds? or that kind of thing
Not that I gave it any thought at all. Eh-hem.
There are some that I've found, but one that anyone recommends?
Hehehe, I really should have put in an option for 'Other' shouldn't I? :)
Do you want an actual download? Cos if not, Google Reader is all kinds of awesome.
google reader?
Nah, i'd like a software version, not a web-based fan.
All I'ds suggest is Google Reader for the awesome portability
How much can change in a year...
Ahh. No idea then, sorry
a web based fan would be a really daft idea.
I used to use FeedDemon and highly rated it.
:D
thank you :)
Ooooh my sister just brought me over one of those pineapple fondant cake things. It was super good! My sister rules!
Were you not on a diet yesterday?
#badsister
That is soooooo yesterday
Everyone knows it doesn't count if it's free.....
Also OI!
I thought the oi would be the first response.
Gotta head for bed, but before I do:
#wrc
KimI Raikkonen's new car and livery
Petter Solberg's new car and livery
Kimi's is great, but Petter's is just way more awesome.
Night folks. :D
Boooooo!
I wonder who came up with Kimi's white shoulder extensions. Looks like someone has ben watching Dynasty
eh? those images were on big picture aaaages ago?
http://www.f1minute.com/2010/01/30/celebrating-kimis-arctic-run/
hmmm. i thought it was different. must be my sleepy eyes. sorry about that.
:D
the post is dated 25th jan too. but no worries. just confused me :)
Just back from a meeting. Has Christine started any more blogs yet?
i she did, i'd be the last to know.
Not that we know of :)
you've gone all sea shanty on us. I (Aye) she did.
*gets to work on comment editing*
Hello! I can't quite tell what the time of day is properly, I think it's because I got 4 hours of sleep after Super Bowl XLIV and Sixth Form.
morning.
If it were the early 90's, I believe it would be Hammer Time
Are we sure?
Hmm. My Sims 2 disk has gone walkies...
*looks at Christine*
You slept after school? You should sleep during it and tell them you have tried these sleep learning courses and you learn better when you are unconcious.
Now I'm definatly sure its Tuesday.
Hahaha. I've just had a wonderful trip down memory lane. I didn't remember the Cali lewis comment from earlier (or rather when I read the comment earlier I didn't remember the incident) so I searched using the supersearch TM and found it. The page her comment is on is also the first time I think I knowingly commented on Sidepodcast.* And so it was great to read back. I remember Christine hiding Mr C's shownotes that very week and him getting upset with me (in a jokey way). Good times :)
* I had commeted before but mainly when Sidepodcast had been linked to by other sites. So I read individual articles and commented rather than taking on the whole thing.
Force India's launch was great this morning. Can't believe they have a pink car
And finally, a launch where the stream worked perfectly thr... nah, can't keep this up.
One step too far! :P
I been too busy writing. No Sims for me yet :(
(Cept for on my new iPod... http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/02/08/magic-touch/)
aww
"eh? those images were on big picture aaaages ago?"
Yikes...
I missed all these... they are luvverly... many thanks guys...
Excellent plug, worth a comment on Must Comment Monday :)
Nope, my day is running entirely on the 4 hour kip between the two events.
oh lord it's monday again!
hello :)
Evening :) How is lou?
hey lou.
we likes smiley kimi.
i'm alright. very tired but otherwise pleased to be home from a very busy day at school. i even have time to check todays comments. not having to revise every waking moment is odd.
so everyone having a nice day?
It's a strange day. I'm too tired to do much.
Yup, am editing a show.
OK, doing a bit of reading
ahh, shame about the busy day but as you say, no revision! :)
Uni has been quite tiring today... this afternoon was a complete write off (ps. might have been my own lack of attention's fault but shh ;)) and our lecturer sent us an odd/annoying email just after we finished to go home. Pretty good though apart from that :)
http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/formula-1-news/227748/family-doubts-over-petrov-renault-seat/
If true....very interesting
Hello lou. Today's been rather dull.
oooo yay! that also reminds me that i haven't listened to the newest aside with joe yet.. #sorrychristine
#sorrymrc
#sorryjoe
How do you embed a previous comment in a comment?
Joe on the same thing
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/02/08/from-russia-with-interest/
If you are using http://sidepodcast.com/realtime/ just open the reply box and click on the sentence you want to quote. If you want to quote the whole comment click on the commenter's name
Thanks Steven :-)
No problem. Are you having any other problems with the site?
Hello all, just want to check Mr C is safe on Rockall & not in Hollywood today...
Then the latest person to receive a Walk of Fame Starr will be ok :)
just to give credit. will had the scoop this morning:
http://willthef1journo.wordpress.com/2010/02/08/petrov’s-renault-seat-is-not-100-secure/
gpupdate are likely feeding from that.
Hope Mr C doesn't bury Ringo's face in the wet cement
oi!!
I'm OK at the moment. I will ask if I have any more questions.
link fail.
will's petrov post
Amy.. you are very scary. I heard one of their songs over the weekend and really liked it!
#psychicamy
you get to make paper ipads at work.. if i fail to become an f1 photographer i'm getting a job where you work :P
or maybe it should be willb, so as not to confuse that will, with our will. will?
Was dancing & singing to Giggles Radio yesterday & am now dancing to Startled Bunny 2009 Special Edition (which is on iTunes). Perhaps it's a good thing I'm here on my own & don't own a web cam ;)
i has the best job in the world.
although they took the paperpad off to be laminated and it didn't come back. shall get pics tomorrow.
And you were having a go at me for not doing any work!
It could be willthef1journo's petrov post.
They?
The leprechauns?
much better :)
have added you to this twitter list, btw: http://twitter.com/sidepodcast/sidepodcast-commenters
if that's cool?
it was work.
the people who work laminating machines.
much like kitchens, i'm not trusted with a laminator.
Yes that's OK.
I did not know this... from james allen's post he just tweeted http://cli.gs/V9yn7:
Bernie Ecclestone this weekend publicly confirmed that teams are to be allowed to have three ‘no-shows’ at Grands Prix. It appears that these can be taken at any time so it is theoretically possible for a new team to miss the first three races of the season and start at Shanghai on April 18th. It also appears that this rule is not limited to the new teams, but if any of the established teams need to take that route it would be because they are in serious financial problems, as none of them would want to miss points scoring oportunities.
How annoying...
holy cow.
twas on MWM this week ;)
Mr C, can we take three random races off too?
In a way, it does make sense, but I don't agree with it at all.
oh yes!!
It became public knowledge a couple of weeks ago as far as I know. I read somwhere (Joe?) that it is in the new Concorde Agreement
confirmed, or speculated?
james allen broke the news, joe checked up on it. but it was all speculation, wasn't it?
No
confirmed i think. cannae remember
No
Of course, how silly of me
maybe not then
They should bring back pre-qualifying.
Someone posted that over the weekend, Joe, I think had someone delve into the rules
From Joe
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/02/04/thoughts-with-a-glass-of-wine/
what happens if every team has the same idea, say for abu dhabi?
if the championships over by then...
That's the one
Can they do it for Valencia, please :)
One of Joe's replies has just made me realise the BBC have stopped the 'Mole' thing they did, huh.
i tell you something. james allens new blog header is actually ok...
w00t!
I saw a Mole article last week
I just posted a comment saying that on Joe's blog. If someone can build a car that can pass the crash tests and scrutineering and they can find a driver with the proper licence to sit in it they should be allowed to enter. I have never understood why a team should be guaranteed a grid slot in perpetuity regardless how bad they are.
oooh :)
I think its not within 1 season. So that might be a silly move.
On the BBC website? I haven't seen anything on there for aaaaaaaaaaages
Then the rule would be instantly withdrawn I think. Imagine Bernie's medal idea had happened and the championship was sewn up with three races left.
+1
From the 2010 Sporting Regulations: 5.7 An Event may be cancelled if fewer than 12 cars are available for it. It could be used as a bargaining tool if FOTA aren't happy with something
Have you been moonlighting Lukeh?
I was inspired by Ted
I thought Bernie had to supply 18 or 20 cars. Those were the numbers that were being thrown around when all the talk of teams fielding three cars was being discussed
So how did the 2005 USGP go ahead then?
someone's playing with fire here, aren't they?
just how bad a state is formula 1 in for bernie to agree to this?
I wondered the same, but it does say may and these are the 2010 regulations, perhaps they were different then?
#conspiracytheory
Maybe Bernie is agreeing to all these crazy ideas, as he is planning to retire soon, so it will be someone elses problem.
this puts him in a position of weakness this year, no? unless he's selling this week, he must be expecting something very bad to happen
Because all the teams started the race and pitted on the first lap leaving only 6 cars running. The only reason they started was to make sure Bernie wasn't in breach of contract
The 2010 rules weren't applicable then
Regulations are here. Interestingly there's an Appendix regarding the recognition of Motor Racing Circuits which I'd not noticed before. It may help with homologation queries (which I don't understand at all)
good call.
would they do the same again though?
Yes
That whole weekend was resposible for the loss of an American race
but why? he's just told them they can take three races off.
At the same time?
Because if they cross Bernie they know he will retaliate and he has the power. FOTA had their chance to bury him and bottled it.
it doesn't say they can't. as steven pointed out, if the seasons wrapped up early, why not save your money?
i can understand the kitchen.. but a laminator?..
Sponsors won't be very happy
It has a heating element in it. He can't be trusted
"Bernie Ecclestone this weekend publicly confirmed that teams are to be allowed to have three ‘no-shows’ at Grands Prix."
he's giving them the option. why would he retaliate?
This is Mr C we are talking about [no offence]
Put paper in laminated pocket, put laminated pocket into laminator, pull out, repeat.
The top teams would go to keep sponsors and fans happy.
none taken. i know my place, i have a number #2 on my desk...
If they all chose to miss the same race he will lose a lot of money and have a lot of grief to deal with and Bernie is not the kind of person to suffer alone or in silence
awww :)
"Bernie Ecclestone this weekend publicly confirmed that teams are to be allowed to have three ‘no-shows’ at Grands Prix."
It will be interesting to know what the conditions are, it's not going to be a straightforward as it seems, this is the Concorde Agreement & Bernie
This is someone who thought put your wlbow into it meant putting his elbow in the muffin mix??
am beginning to think f1 is in slightly more serious trouble. but maybe that's an overreaction. time will tell.
Here's a video of the Virgin shakedown at Silverstone, if anyone's interested (RG, I see a Timo)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fblFRCrWlVI
Considering its too all the teams, might be on to something.
Is CVC losing more money?
f1 isn't allowed to be in serious trouble.. not until i finish my career as a successful f1 photographer ;)
I also see a Di Licious for Christine
Aren't they supposed to be selling soon as the investment plan draws to a close?
I don't think the sport is in any real trouble. I think this is just a dispensation to the new teams because they were only given their slots so late. I can't imagine anyone other than the new teams exercising this option
Interesting that james thinks we will still get fuel weights, im really looking forward to seeing that if they do.
http://cli.gs/V9yn7
I think it was for 10 years, so we are only half way
CVC has a large payment to make in 2 or 3?? years time time so they have to make some money or sell or they are going to add to their debt
Yaaay. I have got to get me one of those hats. And I love Timo's new helmet.
did we slashdot james' site again?
I was skeptical about the new doohickey layout at first, but i really like it now! :D
good to hear. we'll probably ask for frank feedback next weekend. right now all we ask is people try it.
Will Christine faint if you get Franck feedback ?
slashdot?
He seems to have accidently made a decent banner ;)
:)
as in. we killed the site by all looking at it together.
Scrolling to the top and then down a bit is still a pain
Having the post there is good though
aha,
i opened it twice by accident
#oops
Is he with media temple too?
wordpress.
wp.com? :S
to clarify. he's using the self installed wordpress, which is hopeless at scaling.
Is it called Media Temple because you have to pray it works. Think I will tweet that the next time they have problems
:)
So on average, probably now?
before midnight.
aha, i might be about to become good friends with that
but not at scale, right?
I thought you were supposed to be ill. Alison said something about your fridge making you ill
They are somehow doing it at the moment, im really not sure how its done though,
what sort of numbers? not more than 50k a day, surely?
not quite that much, but reasonable numbers
it'll do that much on decent hardware.
of course, the amount you pay for decent hardware could be better spent on a decent CMS. but that's a choice you make.
Your experiences with it have put me off slightly, but i will see how we go with it
i would never go near it again. not without a significant rewrite.
This seems to work for me too now...
Many thanks "me".....
The problem exists in the stage between me and the CMS ;)
yay. sorry about the breakage.
No worries...it's just great now it's fixed...
@legardj Legards on twitter?
Whats going on?
He is, and he's been very friendly and whatnot on there since his arrival.
he's good at it too.
Except how do I do quotes?...
I've got the realtime update but still not the quotes...
should be ok, i think i fixed that too.
hit reply, then click the text as normal?
GOT IT!!!..
Hurrah...
:)
Interesting, i wouldnt have expected such a warm welcome :D, hopefully he will fare better with the fans this season than last....
although that wont be hard ;)
He's been insightful and worth following for sure and he replied to people's tweets at him it seems, have seen him reply to quite a few followers of myself and he replied to me so he definitely goes in my good books ;)
Not exactly his biggest fan commentary wise but no complaints here for his twitter presence.
*replied, although replied still works
...I meant *replies.... doh....
:D
*puts head down and gets back to comment editing*
back in a bit y'all.
night sir
Hi guys. How are we this COLD evening?
Am putting together a blog post for MCM. :)
oh yeah.. i remember the times when we could edit comments :) that was back in the days of hitting F5 lots though. are you bringing comment editing back then?
Hi TM. I'm in a bloggy mood but I have nothing on my mind to blog about, boo.
Evening all, two things - first, you know the new Lotus F1 car got started up the other night?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81345
Well there were a couple of videos that came through on our e-mail from Lotus Racing of the startup. Not to risk getting into trouble, that's all I'm saying on that one.
Also, my taxi driver that picked me up from CTL tonight says she thinks she picked up Ted Kravitz from the Lotus Racing factory before picking me up. I asked if the guy had dark hair and a bit of a tan, as he does, and she said yes. Plus she said he answered his phone with "Ted here" :P
Ooh, and my picture with Heikki came through on e-mail apparently as well. Haven't seen it yet, but I'm already dreading that I'll look terrible, as I tend to do in all pictures of me :P
Interesting, did she have the chance to speak to him?
On the subject of the disappearing Russian millions perhaps they should paint the new Renault pink.... for the embarrassment... wasn't this a Lopez deal?...
And hasn't everyone been saying that Gerard is a great find for F1... or was that some type of in joke?....
If this deal goes south then only one person will be smiling and that'll be he of the orange perma-tan.... the dreaded Flav will be rolling on the floor with amusement...
Just trying to decide if this makes your real name Rubens, Eddie, or Lewis...
It was a Lopez deal. I don't understand why someone signing a pay driver would not demand cash at a much earlier date. If the cash does not show up two weeks before the season as Petrov's has to do there is going to be no-one with any kind of budget to replace him.
They are out-USF1ing USF1 with their openness.
Pat, did you hear Massive Attack's album was released today
I didn't, I don't really keep up with album releases any more
It suprises me that a company like renault would admit it has sold a drive for cash!
It's not really Renault though as they only have a very small share
I let you know how it is once I've had a listen
Heligoland
He's decent though, that's the difference
According to James Allen, Lopez sees his F1 team as a way to build a business network. http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2010/02/some-insight-into-renaults-plan-for-f1-team/
Ta. I may look it up on Spotify later in the week.
Initial thoughts are, it's not as dark as their recent efforts
Uh oh. Plants vs Zombies is coming to iPhone a week today. What is it with all these addictive things all coming whilst I'm doing a dissertation?!
The PC game is utterly absorbing so it'll defo be a purchase here...
Where do you get your iPhone game news Lukeh, here and there?
TouchArcade.com seem good for games
This is a big week in the world of IndyCar. I can't make this link to F1 in any way, other than that among all the new F1 car launches the IRL are considering proposals for the next-gen IndyCar. I thought it might be interesting for those here who like looking at car designs.
So after Dallara's proposals last week, we've had a presser from Lola (no pics) and then today Swift has released their options. I think all mfrs have been asked to do a 'conventional' evolution, and then a more radical version with wheel protectors. Here's the two, and then some detail on the first - click the top image and you'll find they want to include lights on it showing car position, fuel load and the pressure on the throttle and brake!
Later this week will come the Delta Wing option which is reportedly very radical, and is rumoured to have support in the paddock.
I'll have a look, ta
Whereas it's looking like an anything is for sale at the right price emporium where only people with dud cheques turn up...
Delta wing? Sounds intriguing
That's the name of the project. I can't imagine it would be that shape though... but if it is 'radical'...?
Any news on the next-gen engine supplier?
#sidepodspace
Since NASA screwed up my sleep on Sunday and didn't launch then launched a couple of hours after I went to bed this morning after the superbowl - which was a great game - I have decided to try and find some other highlights in the mission to watch.
Today is Flight Day 1 in NASA speak as it was the launch day. I will try to avoid using there lingo as it confuses me as well as everyone else but some times it just appears.
Tomorrow the shuttle hangs about in space not doing much other than checking the heat shield on the bottom of the shuttle to see if it sustained any damage during the launch or ascent.
Wednesday the shuttle docks with the ISS and before that performs the backflip manouevre that gives some footage.
Thursday is spacewalk preparation day with the two spacewalkers camping out overnight in the airlock to get all the nitrogen out of their blood.
Friday is the first spacewalk by Behnken and Patrick who was born in England but is now American. They will take the Tranquility node from the shuttle's payload bay and dock it with the Unity node on the station then carry out leak checks.
Saturday looks like a busy day even though everyone is inside. They will carry out a detailed inspection of the heatshield on the shuttle. They will move the maine ISS robotic arm. They will open the hatch to the Cupola which is a bit like an observation bubble that the astronauts can stick their heads in to see what they are doing with robotic arms etc. The last task of the day is a campout by the spacewalkers for the following day's EVA
Sunday is spacewalk 2 day. The job list includes opening the fluid lines to cool Tranquility's avionics, de-pressurisation of the Cupola/Tranquility interface and using the main ISS arm to grab the Cupola.
Monday they will use the arm to move the Cupola from its location on Tranquility to Traquility's nadir (Earth facing or bottom) port. The Cupola vestibule will then be outfitted.
Tuesday they will move the pressurised mating adaptor from the Harmony node to the forward port of the Tranquility node for micrometeroid debris protection. The crew have some off duty time. I really must find out what they do then because Christine asked during the sidepodspace sidepodradio show and I am still not sure. Lats taks of the day is a campout for the spacewalkers.
Wednesday is spacewalk 3 day. Unusually the same two astronauts are doing all three spacewalks. This spacewalk concentrates on fitting various bits and pieces to the Cupola(the bay window). They are doing cable runs, hand rail installation and removing thermal insulation. The Cupola robotic work station will be installed.
Thursday will involve moving a lot of stuff from the shuttle to the ISS. After news conferences the hatches between the shuttle and the ISS will be sealed.
Friday they undock and the shuttle flies round the ISS. This provides some great footage. They then carry out a final inspection of the shuttle heat shield.
Saturday the shuttle crew make sure everything is packed away properly so that it doesn't bash them on the head during landing.
Sunday they land in Florida unless the weather is as unco-oprerative as usual.
I think it will still be Honda.
Hopefully they will go for something more radical than the current version plus a couple of percent
OOPS. Space comment was a bit bigger than I thought
Should have said if anyone wants to know anything about the shuttle mission it is all in the press kit
http://www.nasa.gov/pdf/423514main_sts130_press_kit_2.pdf
Ok.....so don't ya just love non-f1 people's questions....
Ben: "So, can teams only have 1 car, or do they have to have 2?"
Me: "I don't get the question, what do you mean?"
Ben: "Well Mercedes are going to put schumacher first, so theres not a great deal of point running rosberg"
Love it
He seems to have a good grasp of the situation
:D
Just a thought guys, but would it be worth making a page in the Wiki entitled "Who's coming to Joe's meetup" or something along those lines. Would be nice to know who's coming and who I get to shake hands with. :D
www.mactalk.com.au do a podcast called 'Can Touch This' - it's on itunes of course
I have to go to work now. Bye! :-)
Cheers Jeremy

Doohickey bug maybe mr C?
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/doohickey-png-2
All I did was choose the new thread after I refreshed, and clearly it posted in the right thread but the content no change. Thought it'd be best to bring it up for you
And I still find myself awake. This is incredible really.
Second wind
Have had it too many times, go to bed when you are tired, get passed it and you're doomed
Ah, I see. I've set a time I have to be in bed by, I think an early night might help now!
Go to bed now, read, watch tv or something. You'll feel better for it in the morning
That's my plan, will do in a short while.
sounds like me after Ausi Free Practice day...
well.. morning..
Quick question, does the grid always start with number one on the left or right or does it depend? {Comment #420}
Traditionally, it's supposed to go to whichever is the faster side. However, this is not forced to be the case (as a rather miffed Ayrton Senna found out in the 1990 Japanese Grand Prix). Pole position is defined by the FIA Safety Delegate on the first year a particular startline/first corner is in use during the circuit homologation. If the Safety Delegate happens to pick the slower side, pole will remain on the "wrong" side until either that part of the circuit is modified or the track as a whole changes enough to merit a new circuit homologation assessment. Article 36.2 a) iii) covers this in combination with the Appendix of the International Sporting Code concerning circuits; the latter is necessary to define "new", which is otherwise the one vague point in Article 36.2 a) iii).
There is no provision for changing the location of pole during a race weekend in the current Regulations, which would certainly explain dissatisfaction when it happens after qualifying.
Maybe that's the next target of mine. ;)
Great Hustle episode and now the Debrief
there is nothing like getting up at stupid o'clock in the morning feeling very very tired only to listen to Ant and Croftie for an hour or so and then nap before FP2. It's part of the whole f1 experience. I may hate it/ get very confused when it happens but early morning races are awesome :)
i bet there's a regulation somewhere.
ALIAAAAAAAAA!!! {Comment #428}
I apologise for the late service. My head-pinger was malfunctioning...
Agreed. Whilst I can't wait for the season to start, this Bahrain silliness is just merely a warmup to when the season really starts at Silly oclock in Melbourne ;)
Sounds good, even though I'm definitely not a morning person!
I *may* do the sensible thing and catch up with the lot on shock horror iPLAYER!
I can't say I'll miss that this year!
Its the sensible way but it isn't the most fun way.
worst thing if i think of the season as being from Melbourne to Brazil.. Bahrain and Abu Dhabi are just going to be live test sessions to me.
It is when you have a JOB to go to and not enough holiday to take the Fridays off to enjoy such sanities.
"Bernie Ecclestone this weekend publicly confirmed that teams are to be allowed to have three ‘no-shows’ at Grands Prix."
he's giving them the option. why would he retaliate? {Comment #844}
His retaliation tool is obvious - he's said he'll not pay TV money to teams that don't participate. Any team which doesn't turn up for the first three races will lose three-eighteenths of their TV money entitlement for that year (pro rata for those only missing one or two races, obviously). It's to stop teams pulling off the trick that don't have to do so.
really? i love it! it's part of the whole experience :) although the number of times i've jumped out of bed with such a fright thinking i may have missed it before realising i haven't :)
You're crazy! Silly oclock is awesome!
I'm planning to do this very thing. I wasn't going to watch FP this year, as I didn't for much of last year, but with all these new teams? Must Watch.
Well, Webber did use Suzuka as a live test session so I don't know if it makes much difference...
i generally do it even though i have school.it does mean that i'm shattered, but by monday my body clock has changed anyway:D
For weekends, yes. For Free Practice no. I is getting old nowadays.
I have never done this.. quali and race were bad enough :)
You're not that old, surely?
I agree. I hate all the night races that are daytime for us. One of the best bits of international sport is being awake in the middle of the night
i blame sidepodcast. if there hadn't been live commenting i would not have bothered to start with. however i now love FP sessions and with me missing a few fridays due to school it's nice to watch them when i can.
I may have stayed up/got up for FP and Quali last year and gone to work straight from it... oops...
That makes me feel ever so slightly ancient
I have done this. It absolutely killed my bodyclock the 2 Australian GPs I did this.
yay! so there will be Steven, Lukeh and myself in the comments then :D eheh
I just found I'm on Sidepodcast's Twitter list called "people who comment and tweet". I feel a little humbled. :)
It's like getting up early for Christmas!
hehe :)
Jenson and Rubens are going to get a 1-2 at Bahrain I'm thinking
#stillstuckin2009
I've found a better video of the Virgin VR-01 shakedown, this one actually shows more than about 5 seconds of on-track action:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uKDyJlnxe8
eheheh awww but in 09 there was no number 1 on Jenson's car.. this year there is :D eeheeheheh (waited too long to see it)
That is a good point :) I still remember phoning you after Melbourne to make sure you were alright with all the excitement of the Jenson win and Brawn 1-2... who wouldve thought that a year later Jenson would be returning with the No. 1 on his car?
Quite frankly I only care about the amount of Timo in it. That car will do amazingly with him
That was wrote with a blind sense of optimism.
omg yes.. that's the first time i've ever cried with joy after qualifying :D *ehem* in my defence i was very very tired..
I'm gonna head off to bed now guys and girls. Play nicely, I don't want any fighting. Only loving. :)
Cyas!
Night TM :)
Night Mr TM
night Turkey

Nighty night.
i love that film! :) night Lukeh!
I'm off to actually loooong day tomorrow

I will also say goodnight and leave you with one final plug: http://www.f1minute.com/2010/02/08/08-feb-10-hulkenberg-prepares-for-his-debut-season/
Good Night
Good night to all who are leaving
Night lou and Mrs C ;)
Right, brain has failed. Time for sleep. Night!
See ya Wednesday.... ;)
Good Night lou, Mrs C, and Tom G
ooh the repair man is on his way and its only 10.17am. My day is not wasted!
What's broked?
the gate, the shower, the kitchen cupboard door, the sliding door and two light fittings
our repair man doesn't come by very often. The shower has been broken since October 2008 :D
Sounds like you have been on a drunken rampage
it appears the property managers have sent someone who can't fix any of the problems.
That's useful
he is on the phone saying he can't fix the gate because we didn't report the problem to the property managers, but we did, thats the whole reason we got the guy out here. He also says he can't fix the shower because hes not a plumber and can't fix the light fittings because he's not an electrician
And you had to take a day off work to have someone turn up who can't do anything
I had the day off anyway, I'm working on Saturday :( But he was just on the phone to our property managers who said its our fault he can't fix stuff because we didn't report it to them, which is why his job sheet only says he has to put up some shelves. We don't need any shelves put up, and we sent them quite an email with a list of things that need doing and the fact we told them 6 months ago they need doing and we never heard back. I think they are as useless as I've been told they are.
oh way to comment the same thing twice in a row Amy, gosh. I need more sleep.
The two comments are different enough.
Take photos of the offending items and email them again. If you don't get further, get someone in to do it, then invoice them.
this is true, but he wasn't on the phone twice :D he has now gone out to his car to get a new lock for our gate so it appears he is now going to do it, after previously telling me he wouldn't.
Get on the phone and shout at them too and tell them you had to take a day off work
Yes. And threaten them by saying you'll invoice them. You'll probably find they'll send someone round again fairly sharpish because their guy is invariably cheaper than getting someone else in.
I emailed my flatmate who deals with them and she just rung them and yelled at them, but it turns out our property manager left on Friday and the new guy looking after her portfolio had no idea what she was yelling about. Fail BP City Real Estate, Fail.
ooh, he's gone to the hardware store. I think I might make it to ikea by lunch time.
Buying new stuff to break?
I need a blanket for work since it's so cold in there. I also need new spoons.
You need a blanket for work? How do you get away with sleeping at work?
Its more for wrapping myself in as I work because its so cold that I can't concentrate on what I'm doing. Everyone around me has blankets, I feel so left out. I have the perfect ikea blanket on my bed but if I took that to work my bed would be sad so I'm off to buy an identical one.
I thought Australia was supposed to be hot at this time of year?
Don't you have heating at work?
it was 35 yesterday. And about 12 inside my office.
Whaaat? Isn't it like 35 degrees there?
Also good evening :)
You need to get them to turn down the air conditioning. Tell them it will help the environment or something.
Hello
We asked if we could turn down the air conditioning and were told "you'll really appreciate it when we have hot days"
we have had lots of 35+ days. I haven't seen anyone appreciating it. The one day that I didn't have to wear my jacket inside was the day I was feeling quite poorly and had a fever.
That's not going to wash with anyone. Tell them it'll reduce their costs and raise profits maybe?
Everywhere in Dubai was like that. I was cold inside the shopping centre if I didn't have a jacket and trousers on....
I see they have shut that big building. #Dubaifail
They have? Hahahahaha
In the land that doesn't re-use their water?
I don't understand people who live in hot countries who spend a fortune making everywhere freezing cold. Here it would be illegal to have the temperature that low
What big building?
http://www.theage.com.au/travel/travel-news/worlds-tallest-tower-closed-indefinitely-a-month-after-opening-20100209-nnlm.html?autostart=1
when you first go from really hot to really cold it's the most amazing feeling in the world. But then you adapt and its waaaay too cold.
Oh I see now yes. I was up there and I didn't die.....
maybe they have the same repairman you do
are you sure?
That I'm not dead.... Yes pretty sure!
this is very possible, he did go to great lengths to tell me he doesn't only work for the real estate company.
Good. I was a little suspicious.
i tell ya, the place has gone to pieces since nick arrived. first he bankrupt the country...
True story :D Poor boy....
this is the dumbest thing i ever read:
The Burj Khalifa boasts more than 160 storeys. The exact number is not known.
they couldn't be bothered to research, or people genuinely don't know?
how can you not know? I am scared of ever going to Dubai if they can't even work out how many floors their buildings have.
While I was there the Hope for Haiti Everybody Hurts cover was on. Two of the hairdressers were discussing it.
1: Who wrote this?
2: Simon Cowel?
1: No I mean originally
2: Oh i think it was E-R-M {Comment #487}
ERM I think that might be the wrong answer ;)
They must know.... There is a lift up to the residential floors surely! That must have a floor number on it.
Maybe they gave the floors names rather than numbers
on the other hand, planning permission sounds a breeze.
- "and how tall will this building be?"
- "quite tall"
- "approved"
if your dyslexic ERM it is, but if your not, it was REM
We had a guy deliver pizza to us who knocked on the door again after he delivered it and asked what button to press on the lift to get to the exit. We were like Ground......
hooray, gate is fixed. Now no one can steal my bbq!
yay!
Okay, here goes:

Hopefully self-explanatory. Ten parts, you decide, etc, etc.

Ooh! Choose Your Adventure goes #mfc! This is good stuff :)
Hmm. My Sims 2 disk has gone walkies... {Comment #744}
Well, it's not here. There's still only one Sims 2 base game disk here.
Though if anyone knows where my Sims 1 disk went, I would be grateful to hear...
what happens if every team has the same idea, say for abu dhabi?
if the championships over by then... {Comment #809}
Then all the teams who skipped a race lose one-eighteenth (or whatever fraction that race was of that year's total races) of their TV income. Another reason why teams are unlikely to skip unless they must.
From the 2010 Sporting Regulations: 5.7 An Event may be cancelled if fewer than 12 cars are available for it. It could be used as a bargaining tool if FOTA aren't happy with something
I thought Bernie had to supply 18 or 20 cars. Those were the numbers that were being thrown around when all the talk of teams fielding three cars was being discussed {Comment #825}
Bernie had to field 20 cars under the old Concorde Agreement (don't know what the new one says about it). The FIA need only field 12 (and I don't think that's because of penalties but due to the FIA not wanting to commit so many resources to a badly-attended event, hence the may).
So how did the 2005 USGP go ahead then? {Comment #826}
20 cars did the parade lap. That met the requirements for Bernie to be paid - just. If the Michelin teams had refused to leave the starting grid to begin the parade lap, then Bernie would have been in breach of Concorde.
The FIA has the option to cancel if fewer than 12 cars are available for an event, but is not obliged to exercise it. I think this may date back to the FISA/FOCA war of 1980, but I'm not sure.
that whole weekend was resposible for the loss of an American race {Comment #836}
USGP 2005 did not cause the loss of the American race. A series of mistakes and stupid ideas over the course of several years caused the loss of the American race, ranging from reluctance to race there in 2001 to Bernie charging a stupid amount of money for a new contract in 2007. 2005 was a contributory factor, but only one among many.
Love it {Comment #942}
To be fair teams could and did have one-car teams in the olden days, but I doubt the non-F1 person remembers that far back...
:D hahahah!
Well there are 160 floors usable, the floors after that i think are accessed by stairs
They must know.... There is a lift up to the residential floors surely! That must have a floor number on it. {Comment #1055}
Has anyone tried the "count the windows and assume floors above the window level are the same height as the average of the last few windows levels?" approach. It wouldn't give an exact figure, but it would be close.
