This should be an interesting daily post considering I haven't a clue as to what has been going on, F1 or otherwise. I can't even remember when I last commented on Sidepodcast! This has to be the longest time that the doohicky has not been open on my computer but whilst I have work to do it will have to stay this way as much as I hate it!
- In case you were not aware, Mr C has been making some changes to the homepage. All of which I have to say I really like even though now when I look at sites all I can think about and see is code, thanks to several weeks of staring at lines and lines of the stuff.
- In some MFC news, Hulu have apparently shelved plans to launch in the UK with negotiations with British broadcasters falling through. I didn't realise Hulu wanted to come to the UK but I'm not surprised at the news after all the BBC have iPlayer and ITV have something similar.
- Venezuela leader Hugo Chavez has joined twitter, joining a group of world leaders who are using twitter to share their thoughts. Of all the world leaders currently using twitter Barack Obama has the highest number of followers (approaching 4 million).
- I didn't mention Doctor Who once in my post last week, so I think that needs to be put right; BlogtorWho have a video from last weeks confidential looking at the new computer outing, Doctor Who: The Adventure Games. I am really looking forward to playing this, the first episode, 'City Of The Daleks', will be released on June 5. During David Tennant's time as the Doctor the BBC site gave us videos on the 'Big Questions' relating (slightly) to the episode that had just aired. They have continued this with Matt Smith's Doctor and I have to say I love them, Matt and Karen are brilliant together!
I can only hope I manage to put something better together next week, this is the result of opening Google Reader and seeing what had happened recently. Last week I finished the post by stealing Christine's line of 'I shall see you in the comments', with the big stack of work I have to get through it is highly unlikely to happen any time soon! I do though hope you all have a good day, even if it is Thursday!
Hello thursday.
hello Amy. My name is Alex by the way, but you can call me Thursday if you prefer ;)
Fourstar's back baby: http://yfrog.com/e0ahatyj
:D Morning, folks.
And he looks incredibly happy about it!
He does!
Today is my Sidepiversary I believe... What should I do to celebrate?
Cake.
Mine is tomorrow ... I think
that's you answer to everything ;)
But it is a good answer!
Hello
Look... some F1 news!!!
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/formula_1/article7111124.ece
Oh good lord.
I have immediately taken up smoking to prove the point!
Today is Autosport day so there should be something along later.. all I can find at the moment is Williams changing their mind on KERS
Ah I remember the good old days when Alonso would insure his thumbs or something!
Only a fortnight to Monaco, I'm sure they have a diamond of a story in the works..
oooh! ooh! ooh! MCLAREN HELMETS
Perhaps we need an impromptu Thursday Thoughts.
My wife has just opened an account with Santander. No sign of her taking up smoking though...
Should all drivers' digits be insured given the complexity of modern steering wheels?
Something like that.
No Rally NZ in 2011 due to rugby in September. Isn't this year's event in May?
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/83169
They were only offered September as part of the travel plans.
It's like one of those dotty pictures that if you squint at for long enough a picture of a boat appears... squint at the 2011 calendar long enough and you might see some logic to the travel plan. Maybe.
I gave in and wrote the Doctor Who post. http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/04/29/time-of-angels/
Darn not being able to wait.
More Heikki &Reino pics: http://www.mtv3.fi/urheilu/f1/uutiset.shtml/arkistot/f1/2010/04/1110839
Hehehe, I like this: http://twitter.com/teamSCboard/status/13059784571
Hehehe :)
Morning people!
That is quite a big shirt!
Hahahah! Oh dear.
I have a feeling that when Jordon changed their livery to Buzzin' Hornets, it was a smokescreen for Benson & Hedges. Just a sneaky suspicion is all. ;)
Does sound like it started on the letters page...
"This Sunday afternoon I was at a loose end as the bridge club was unfortunately cancelled at short notice. I therefore decided to sit down and watch some television. Switching on I discovered that the motor racing was on which I hadn't seen for years. It wasn't as good as the old days though, Stirling Moss wasn't even taking part. Before I knew it I was off down to the shops for a packet of cigarettes. The cause was those Italians and their red cars. Afterall, the site of the smoke billowing from Fernando Alonso's blown engine with that barcode design below it is enough to make anyone think of cigarettes."
Or...
"After watching the 1-2 victory by Ferrari this weekend I was suddenly possessed by the urge to have a cigarette. Followed shortly afterwards by facing a firing squad.
Please do not repeat the Bahrain Grand Prix again."
Hehe.
:D
Mmmmm nice warm cup of tea and some hobnobs to start the day :)
'The Team Formerly Known As ITVF1 Commentary' will be driving around the new Silverstone later
http://twitter.com/Jamesallenonf1/statuses/13060912007
Sounds good. We have hobnobs in the office, may be time to open the pack. The kettle is on.
The long sunny spell is over, rain and mist here. Likely to persist until Sunday/Monday.
And here too. Although oddly it is very stuffy in the office itself today.
Generally overcast here, but I still have 3 quarters on. I should stop being so rebellious, clearly
I'm having a bit of a student morning anyways. Got a bit of a headache, got work set out but I can't be bothered to do it, and a cup of tea whilst watching Cash in the Attic, which is actually really awful viewing but I'm still watching it
start the day! start the day?!?!
Some of us have been at work since 7 meladdio ;)
(some of us are silly)
I have a student lifestyle to withold for a few more weeks! :P
Ah yeah the Silverstone launch is today. Lovely day for it. Today we should find out the names of the new corners. Hopefully they won't just call it 'Arena'.
I saw on twitter yesterday a rumour one of the straights was the Wellington Straight but no idea if it's true
Turn 13, Turn 14, Turn 15... which will be very confusing once they move the pitlane
Could call it Tina
Haha, Stuart's tweets are awesome this morning. Silly Nick Fry
Hah :)
As long as it isn't called "Alonso's Thumb" you never know what Santander might persuade them to do...
Howdy all!
Hi Adie
From F1Racing_Mag:
The new sections of Silverstone have been named: Village, The Loop, Aintree and Wellington Straight.
he is wearing slippers. I am wearing slippers. #affinity
Hi
Oh. Really?
This London Underground map is actually immense. Mind = blown
http://bit.ly/dxbZcu?r=td
Seems like it, it is the new F1 Racing twitter account so I'll assume it's true
Wow!
The slippers are a very famous brand in Finland. There is a males version and a female version called Aino. I took part in the official Aino football Worldchampionship two summers ago :)
forgot the link (for the shoes): http://www.gofinland.fi/Henkiloasiakkaat/Tuotekortti.iw3?ProductID=4ab575d0-adda-49a8-83fb-658c90d8b43b
Look at the 'topics' cloud on James Allen's tweet site
http://twitter.jamesallenonf1.com/home
A certain site is doing quite well
Jake is posting to TwitPic but the pics aren't working
Ah here we are. This is uniquely British isn't it, a rubbish empty stage in an open space with a couple of cars right in front of it. Imagine if this was America and what they'd do..
http://tweetphoto.com/20344373
Hehe! Ahh dear :)
if you click it though, it's only me, lou and lukeh who have achieved that.
gooo team #hashtag
even if you won't be reading this james. cheers for the daily.
Stuarts going for a ride with Martin Brundle, yay!
http://twitter.com/teamSCboard/statuses/13065510344
want.
my bag is full. I could try to repack if the want is big :)
not too big, I am quite happy with my purple boots :D
Or not!
http://twitter.com/teamSCboard/status/13067019202
Awww :(
Great post from Jackie: http://www.vivaf1.com/blog/?p=3447
That was a great read, as usual from Viva F1 :) I've never really taken much thought into whether women have the ability to compete, if they can prove themselves then why not I say. Alex Tai's assumption is a bit rude...
Silverstone Q&A featuring the longest 'related stories' sidebar I've seen in a while...
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/83185
They say they are contracted to use the new pits from 2012 but they'll be ready for the 2011 race
oh and they reckon their simulations show a faster average lap speed faster than Monza... will believe that when I see it
Hmmm, we'll have to see indeed. Seems a stretch!
booo it is my favourite flatmates last night here. This is sad because a) I like her and b) I can tell she will be packing and cleaning until about 4am and I want to go to sleep.
House related affairs are annoying!!!!
how are you travelling with yours?
I hate it. The mood I'm in right now, I'll take the first thing I see in my price range that has a roof....
I would offer you our spare room but its a little far away and we finally found someone to move in :D
I really can't be bothered. It shouldn't be this hard to get someone's stupid spare room....
Haven't you only been looking for one day?
It took me 7 weeks to find my flat :D #nothelpful
I feel like I've phoned half of Liverpool though :(
In helping my flatmate pack I found that whoever lived here in January 2008 wrote the Australian Open draw on the wall. I wish I lived here then, I could have talked tennis!
oh-no! can they fix it?
All quiet on the Silverstone front at the moment.
Well I don't think Jackie Stewart has chosen the best drivers for the new Stewart GP

:)
:)
Interesting choice of tyre too
I'm not leaving now but before I forget about it:
Bye you darling people. I'm still not sure whether and how much Internet will have available to me so I don't know how often I can come here in the next few months. I miss you already.
About Spa: There are still 2 (or 3 I'm still not sure about Bassano) beds free in the second mobile home. I expect you to fill those :) I will check my wiki account more or less regularly and Amy, Bassano, Pamela.... have my e-mail address.
If you want me to bring you something from Finland this is the last chance for requests. (I'm sorry Lady Snowcat Kimi is faaaaaar too heavy)
Hehehe!
Bye Kathi... Hope you have a good few months!
Bye Kathi, have a great time wherever you're going.
If you are travelling via London and need a car space, can you leave a note on the wiki and we will save a space when we get around to sorting out the travel arrangements. Otherwise, see you there :)
at the moment I'm planning to go by train but I will let you know if I change my mind
I hope so too
you're leaving without any idea what your internet speed might be, are you mad?
...erm, but still, have a good time krazy-kathi.
renault pit stop practice: http://twitpic.com/1je3dj
How very kind of them to do their best not remind us of the creme egg livery :P
ahh, hadn't spotted that. they still haven't found time to rebrand the old chassis?
I hope mercedes haven't found the time either
#graspingontostringofhope
:P thanks
morning all!
erm.. sorry i meant evening all.... that wasn't a good start...
hey lou :)
hehe. Hullo :)
how is everyone? nice day?
indeed, just reading a letter from steve: http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/
Bit of a bog standard thursday, have been a bit lazy today.
Interesting read and I find it hard to argue with Steve's position regarding flash. I like how Adobe feel mobile users are missing out of Flash games :)
What do you find easier to work with Mr C?
ooo that was interesting. Nice to read about apple's reasons for not using flash, a few digs at adobe too lol
(as in flash or html5)
"although Mac OS X has been shipping for almost 10 years now, Adobe just adopted it fully (Cocoa) two weeks ago when they shipped CS5"
unfortunate but true.
i despise flash programming, i've only done a little but it is a hopeless case.
i've always felt the problem was, adobe are a design company, they just don't understand developers at all.
microsoft understand devs better than apple, but apple are still head and shoulders above adobe.
gosh Mclaren don't give JB a day off do they?
Yesterday Switzerland- http://twitpic.com/1j47ar
Today London..- http://twitpic.com/1jewb2
html5 every time. sidepodcast is slowly becoming flash-less.
one or two cutting statements there, but it's all true. adobe suck at keeping up.
no wonder kimi wasn't interested
Lewis was there today too, but it seems like the world champion (seriously love typing that).. is doing lots of travelling at the moment.
I;m amazed they've only just adapted themselves to a 10 year old product...
it worked until now, just badly. photoshop cs5 does look awesome though, and it's a design product so i'm really tempted to buy it.
Oh you won't get me faulting adobe for photoshop thats for sure :)
JB and Lewham spending the day together - http://twitpic.com/1jez5i
Aww, the loving gaze between the two :P
They do seem to be getting on really well
on windows it's been lovely for the past... well since forever. cs3/4 were terrible on a mac though.
it's not quite the same, but i have adobe fireworks on the mac and it crashes every time you shut the application. it's been doing that since i installed snow leopard and i understand photoshop does the same.
imagine if photoshop hung each time you quit?
:)
i keep looking at this pic - http://twitpic.com/1j47ar
All i can think of is him being like a small child painting... or playing with lego :D
That would drive me mental. It would probably put me off using photoshop until they sorted it out, which from the sounds of things has been a very long time...
Hahah :D aww... I'm sure he's having great fun with his crayons :P
7 years bspc
*eye twitches*
that would be sooo irritating. photoshop crashes alot for me when i'm batch editing.. that's annoying enough.
hehe, here's a screenshot: http://twitpic.com/1jf107
i just opened and quit fireworks. never opened an image or anything. every time i do that apple get notified that adobe suck at making software for the mac.
every day for the past six months i've been sending them in.
omg! you know the f1 photographer i found the other day? Andrew Hone?... i keep going on about him... Well i just found out he has twitter... not because i was looking, but because he's following me...
it's small things like that which make me smile after tiring exam days :)
and a link to his twitter - https://twitter.com/andy_hone
Awesome!!
Yep. That would certifiably drive me insane after a week. That's just madness, I get annoyed as it is with a program when it hangs after quitting anyways, but every single time...? Madness.
did today go ok for you?
hmm... the sewing machine fell to bits at one point... but it was 6hrs of being covered in paint, stitching like crazy and getting very angry at the stupidly annoying front wing of the red bull. lol so... it was productive. it's gonna be tight as to if it gets done well though.
Eek.. well I'm sure you'll get it done :) and the red bull front wing, well..
#blameadriannewey
:D
ooh cheers
hahaha! he obviously never thought that someone would be attempting to recreate his design with a sewing machine... maybe in the future he will be kinder to me ;)
Tiny bit later than anticipated: http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/04/29/life-in-the-fast-lane-ii-part-4/
yaaaaaayy!!!! no worries if it's late.. i read it when it appears, it's always worth the wait *runs off to read*
hi christine! *waves*
Awe-some! :)
*reads*
:o!! - http://twitpic.com/1je9zs
Was Bassano working today?....
he has a monster branded laptop case?
is it monster? i thought it was just green and black?
i don't believe in those kind of coincidences
Evening everyone :)
Hiya giggles
is he right, or is he right?
I am really amazed that somebody hasn't come out with a super dooper HTML5 IDE...
And the company I'm most surprised by isn't Adobe as everyone is saying but Microsoft... But then Microsoft are still kind of sitting there going, "la la la, the web is not happening!!!!"
who's interest is it to do that though? it'll have to be a small company like panic.
microsoft want silverlight to power the web, adobe - flash and apple only care about apps. who else is there capable of making an IDE that good?
I would like to point out to people who wonder why the Apple made product... um iTunes is so... um... rubbish that they may not have created it in the new thing either... It's still Carbon too (isn't it?)
but he isn't sponsored by monster anymore.... i dont think...
hey alex :)
yay
it's 32bit, so i guess it must be.
i thought people say itunes sucks on windows though?
Well it does because Apple wrote a carbon emulator for windows which it runs within :(
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/47749000/jpg/_47749048_silverstonethis466.jpg
Most unenthusiatic. champaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagne. ever.
ah-ha.
As far as I'm aware the reason that iTunes hasn't been ported on the mac is because they'd have to write a whole new emulator for the pc. They don't want to fork the codebase.
I'd REALLY like to know what Jenson's shirt says: http://twitpic.com/1je9zs
having once used front page, i very much hope microsoft steer clear of a html5 ide.
Well indeed. You are right... I mean I don't really use IDEs at all but then you know I live in the dark ages ;)
:D
even for coding? am using eclipse for sidepodcast, but it sucks even as an editor.
IDE's are for WIMPS.
(uses textmate and vi)
Although I am starting to poke around with Android development and have started using eclipse again for that.
I don't use any of the IDE stuff... Dragging and dropping and so on... placing things in places and stuff... I don't really like autocomplete and things...
I tend to think of my programs as text files. I mean I know I'm wrong, but yeah.
I do have eclipse on my computer... Jeremy made me install it.
not even colour coding?
He chided me the other day when I opened a file in notepad on our production server and made a change (to be fair it was an emergency) and he said, "I'll roll that back into test from live now shall I?"
:)
madness!
No, or bracket matching. However I never seem to lose them.
but are you as productive as someone with hinting?
...forget that, i've seen you type.
BAH!
As long as you know what you're doing it's great.
I don't like programs programming for me. They could hang me out to dry.
Well I don't know really. How do you measure productivity?
I am more productive without hinting because it doesn't drive me crazy. I'm more like a PM though. I am not really supposed to be coding all day. When I do code all day I do get things done and ship. I don't miss deadlines.
I guess that's a big difference too.
Did everyone see this from last week...
It's not obvious about the keys (but it they are mentioned in the first line of the post)... Old arcade games ported to HTML5 (bye bye flash)
http://www.kesiev.com/akihabara/
They do work on the iPhone...
i can't fathom how you'd ever debug anything, but each to their own :)
'sup guys n gals, miss me? I missed you lot. Had a great day punctuated by some really bad news at work regarding a load of (prospective) customers.
hey chap
I do like debugging helpers and things. I do have to use IDEs from time to time (I'm looking at you VBA)... But I guess I learned to program in dynamic languages when you had to use it to run it. So tend to code in print debugging code that gives me things to the screen and see the output. It was all you could do back in the day, and I'm stuck with it now (in my brain).
oh man. i'll see you in a couple of hours....
My awesomeness means I don't need to worry about debugging.
Well, my awesomeness and lots and lots of print statements.
#sameperson
Well actually... I have a string at the end of the HTML page that contains all the debug info that gets added to as I'm going along.
i get it.
it just seems, more than a little... unproductive.
Evening
We as a nation really are rubbish at this :)
and sql?
^^ soo true
I haven't had to do any serious HTML debugging in awhile, and any javascript makes me want to castrate myself to end the pain, but Chrome's developer tools seem pretty cool.
I'm currently working on a java project and using textmate to write it.
Would I allow me to work for me? Almost certainly not!
Heheh. I like that.
how do you debug a java app with print statements?
I do use an IDE for SQL... And it's a huge time saver... But I never seem to use the debug feature in there or the crazy drawing thing with tables and lines *urgh* But I do use the immediate query result thing all the time. And messages and everything.
JQuery is your friend...
true story
Actually that's just made me think... Firebug... That's an IDE of sorts I guess... I use that.
Or rather it's the debugger from an IDE... Which is how much I use of any of them
interesting. i never thought of it that way. it's an odd kind of IDE if it is one.
System.out.println( "what I want to print" );
Sheesh! ;)
there's also printStackTrace() for exceptions, most objects have a toString() method so you can print an object and it'll dump a lot of it's info.
To be honest, I've never really thought about it. My first language I really started with seriously was Perl about 15 - 20 years ago and it's just the way I've always done it.
agreed.
It's the only javascript library I've worked with that doesnt make me want to do that to myself.
hehe. please try netbeans, if only for a day. it's free.
Arrrggghhhhhhhh!!
Tried it, like eclipse better.
Right... Mr C... It's Perl's fault... That's why I'm the way I am too...
Basically at this point we can say to you, "It's not you, it's us".
oh.
...
...
ooops?
hahaha.
netbeans and me have a history. I don't like it and it don't like me :(
i see. how bad can it be?
It does the job and as you say, it's free, so I can't complain with that. I just found over the past 3 years it has a fond relationship with crashing :P we did 99% of our coding in uni on it for the various languages we were studying and one day it would have been perfectly fine, the next day the plug ins wouldnt load, it'd require extra stuff to be downloaded, the libraries wouldnt get recognised etc...
From experience when it works it works. When it's having a bad day, it'll make sure you have one too
Sounds like Flash to be honest....
:) :)
:D :D
nope, it's him, it's not us :)
also true.
Oooh #MFC
Because people don't refresh the page on the google reader page very often (they just leave it running like an desktop application) the team have added a little message that appears at the top inviting you to refresh when a new version is available...
To those of us using AJAX since the beginning you have got to tip your hat to them that is one stable web application if it needs that... I can think of only one other AJAX application that might... The doohicky
people really do use the web in a different way to me.
I believe more and more people are moving away from your way of doing it/
maybe google designed their apps to run on mediatemplefail too?
People leave it open for hours? I just check it, read some stuff, then close it..
Greetings Earthlings
I knew minor ailments would be the start of a downward spiral. This has turned into a coding discussion site.
oooops
Well, it's easy to make stuff "bulletproof" when your host presents you with every possible failure mode known to mankind.
that's the correct way ;)
:D
I'll have to grade the next race a C++ when I review it
Mine's open for days.
Have you tried this for Perl? http://ptkdb.sourceforge.net/
me too... #sameperson
doh!!
One debugger I have used is gdb
:D
While you are at it remember to mention Perl's a singer
hey Steven.
is that const-correct?
and, as Richard Digance would have it, Earl's a winger.
Hello all, wasn't sure I'd be able to contribute tonight, having been looking lots of stuff up on Wikipedia to keep up ;)
Do any of the drivers speak with a LISP ?
you'll appreciate a doohickey update i'm working on that doesn't require sleep mode any more.
not that i've seen the sleepy panda since we stopped doing live shows.
janna! help us out of geekdom
#sidepodspace
Did Steven see this?
http://vimeo.com/4366695
My computer is never on for more than 8 hours apart from maybe leaving it on overnight at a weekend.
My approach when people are talking about things I don't understand is to reduce them to my level. Much easier than trying to understand what they are on about
I never turn my computer off. Lots of automated processes doing lots of things, serving up content to the PS3 and Tivo's, etc.
i gave up checking what the techie chat means ages ago, hehe it's fun reading the comments and trying to imagine what they might mean :)
Programming is like when a driver schedules a pitstop ahead of time... You wouldn't like it ;)
Unfortunately, I have nothing interesting to chat about. I've spent today updating my CV and looking for jobs I can do part-time. Think I may have to visit recruiting agencies next week. Tomorrow I'm off to the Civic Amenity Site. This not working lark is really glamarous ;)
i thought you were taking time off?
It's the HD ultra slo mo of the Apollo XI launch. It was mentioned on a Leo show and I posted the youtube link a few days ago. Quite incredible quality for 1969. I love the little aerodynamics lesson you get when the exhaust that is just drifting out suddenly all gets sucked into the middle when the flow gets high enough
& has stopped my ability to spell (glamorous)
:D hehehe i've tried simple programming once before and hated it.
which reminds me a friend who designs websites as one of his many jobs was trying to talk me through some of the simple things... and i got lost in his techie chat. Have come to the conclusion that there is no hope in hell that i will be able to create a website on my own :)
For once I managed to comment on the latest part of Christine's story before the final warning
http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/04/29/life-in-the-fast-lane-ii-part-4/#comments
I really like Neil deGrasse Tyson... Check out the When I look up video here: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/secretlife/scientists/neil-degrasse-tyson/
STOP! Dinner Time!
I've been off since March 31st & done nearly everything I wanted to do at home (hence the trip to the tip). Have spoken to the local hospice about volunteering & think I might do some part-time work. Will see if there's anything I want to do. It's nice I can choose & don't have to work at the moment.
Never heard of him.
blimey, didn't seem that long at all.
All I have to say to this game trailer for Test Drive Unlimited 2 is: Ibiza, supercars, girls in bikinis, damage model, weather effects, full 24 hour day and night cycle and Ellie Goulding as the soundtrack. What more could I possibly want from a racing game? :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlnU9qGDI7
He's quite good.
Twitter report suggest Adam Carroll is a part-schedule with Andretti in IndyCar... about time he got a decent drive
I guess I need to find out about him then.
*reports *has
He deserves a chance in a top line championship
He was the one who drove in A1GP for Ireland wasn't he?
Hey folks.
Yep, good driver.
That's him. Damn good driver he is too
http://www.16thandgeorgetown.com/
christine just found topgear is in HD on itunes.
if there's one tv show to showcase awesome cinematography in hd... well it's probably planet earth ...but top gear must be a close second.
is it wrong to buy a tv show for the pretty pictures, knowing you'll probably watch with the sound down?
You are going to pay to watch Top Gear in HD??? That is wrong.
Depends which ep it is :)
Surely there must be something worthwhile in HD. Can you get HD on the iplayer?
nope... not when it's awesome... i know what you mean by the awesome cinematography. However it depends on the episode, price and whether there is anything better in HD on itunes ;)
You can. BBC HD channel.
Evening all
you'd be surprised, but there is bugger all. so far, i've bought planet earth, lost and... shooting stars. one of which didn't exactly tax the hd decoder.
itunes won't let you buy HD movies only rent them, so i'm on the lookout for showcase tv programmes.
Didn't realise they had that. Not a huge choice of programs and no Top Gear
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/tv/bbc_hd
two serious problems:
a) iplayer is in flash, so kills the processor and ramps up the laptop heat
b) it's not very high quality HD. better than SD, but nothing to write home about
1) series 14
2) £14.99
3) nope
the legend of dick and dom?!
makes £14.99 sound like a bargain :)
Which one is 14? Is that the South America one? If you can stomach the over-long episode setup bit in the jungle, the drive on those mad roads would look great in HD, assuming they shot it that way
almost worth it for the Bolivia Special, but can't you buy a single episode :(
yup £2.49. should i just buy that one?
ooo!!! wait... that's the same series as the episode when JB tries a lap again... :)
ahh, ok. which episode?
the Bolivia Special would look rather lovely in HD.... not as amazing as the Vietnam Special would though :( i'd pay alot to see that episode in HD...
for people in the know; is there any news on Lewis's second lap, he'd wipe it if it wasn't wet!
surely you have itunes?
Episode 5... the one with the art gallery (only brilliant cause they interview JB again.... :P)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Top_Gear_episodes#Series_Fourteen
oh, you mean the vietnam episode? i'll have a look.
i do, but my poor bandwidth would mean i would be downloading it for days... my laptop wouldn't survive being left on for more than 12 hours..
Only 14 is in HD.
ahh, boo :(
aww bad times
this would look awesome in HD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyBl9vf8Td0#t=1m47s
notsure if it works through doohickey.. but if you play the clip on youtube it should skip to the bit i mean (if i got the link right...)
aah, interesting. never tried to account for the time thing.
i only realised you could do it the other day (someone linked to an article about it i think?).. this is my first chance to try it out :D
Evening everyone. How's tricks?
Hi boss
Remind me to schedule a 1:1 with you next week to review how your first few days have been.
Can you make sure your plan of action for how you propose to deliver your targeted objectives for the next 30, 60 and 90 days is ready for Tuesday please. I have a meeting with the board and will need to deliver it then.
Thanks, any problems talk to my PA and she'll schedule a half hour meeting for the two of us to review if required.
Adie
:D
Evening Sidepodcast.
Just read the good news that Adam Carrol will get a partial program in Indycar with Andretti Autosport.
He really deserves that chance.
Where's my Curly Wurly?
One from the image archives here
From left to right:
Ross Brawn :D
Someone for Lou
???
And Gary Paffett I believe
I'll be paid next week.
Hi there. We just discussed that and everyone agrees. He is one of those drivers who deserves a break but for some reason has never had the backing that many drivers with a fraction of his ability have had
Read: It'll be paid next week.
The Jelly tots are on the way.
Not sure that is exactly what we agreed. I thought Curly Wurly was payable immediately with the Jelly Tots 7 days later.
Give me 2 minutes and I'll get HR to forward me your file
awwwwwwwww!! baby Jenson! aww, does he have his name on his jumper? aww!
Conveniently they've lost it.
Right, Curly Whirly once a month then, and an annual bonus of Jelly Tots. Dependent on company profits.
i need a hug, can anybody deliver one to my doorstep in the next 5 minutes via lukeh airways?
*hugs*
I'm not sure what I've done but I saw my name mentioned and decided to hug :D
Lukeh has a airways company?... he never told me about this.... ;)
i hope you feel better soon TM.
I read ya tweets, boo :( *hugs* anyway
@lou: its been going for a while now, king rubens is a regular in economy!
Must be a different Lukeh
Rubens would have personal flights if it were mine :P
:D hehe
I'm listening to The Bugle podcast & John Oliver is going to be a voice in the Smurfs movie. I didn't know there was going to be a Smurfs movie but now I want to see it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Smurfs_(film)
so how did i see him on our last flight? musta been luxury then.... :D
Right guys..I'm off. Must update the blog soon too.
See you all soon
see ya!
All sidepodcast people get bumped into awesome class :P
Ciao!
@lukeh lol! thats cheered me up!
so are we flying to goodwood then? ;)
Thanks for the pickmeup guys, speak tomorrow lunchtime hopefully. g-night!
I'll try and power up that tardis :p
'Night TM
Byee, glad we could help
see ya
See ya mate ;)
i'm beginning to think there is no tardis... :( i am yet to see it...
there is, lukeh showed it to us on streetview
My flatmate is gone, boo! It's weird saying goodbye forever to someone at 6 in the morning #sleepy
but it doesn't work... what is the point in a tardis that doesn't work?... that's not going to get me to goodwood :(
i suspect that it may just be a painted box...- #confidentialfromlukeh
aww, morning amy
aw :( sad times.
morning Amy
I've seen it on TV working and everythink
Do you have a replacement organised?
you need a time machine to get to chichester?
a question for you... when it's on TV does it have a strange scarf painted on it?
Yep
ouch
i don't really want to have to get through the next few months before then. I'd much prefer to get in a time machine and go to goodwood now rather than do silly exams first.
;)
tom baker keeps stealing it
@Mr C
I notice you have moved the F1 Debrief page but the link on the Shows page still goes to the old URL and a, "Sorry, page not found", message. Thought you would prefer to know but sorry to seem carping.
You can always knit another one http://wittylittleknitter.com/
:D it looks odd with a scarf...
Ferrari are trying to claim the barcode on their car is not a Marlboro advert. That is pathetic. Everyone knows that is what it is.
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/29042010/58/ferrari-spotlight-subliminal-tobacco-ads.html
Must off to bed, 'night all
Bye janna!
night Janna
Night
niiight!
I'm on streetview. So it must be true.
Replacement moves in on saturday :D he seems nice but its not the same, jamee used to bring me new zealand food!
The replacement is a he? Time to start some rumours
Haha it is a he, we had a he in that room prior to jamee too, but your rumours won't work!
Oh noes... I'm not anymore they've redone the road :( bad times...
quick check your hands...
ooh ta.
You picked a mail because he won't want you to hoover at inconvenient times didn't you?
Hello
And no-one is here
cya then :D
I'm here, sorry. Was writing tomorrow's daily but am now available.
sorry I was reading http://smarterthanyouraverage.com/2010/04/29/life-in-the-fast-lane-ii-part-4/
The test should surely be a) does it match the UPC code for a pack of Marlboro and b) will it scan?
All done and ready for tomorrow :)
woohoo!
And I am sat here, trying to actually think of something to write
Although I;m worried I've written too much again. it's not as much as last week but still i worry...
Oooh!! Onboard the new silverstone with Brundle :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixrRSx6_Le4&feature=player_embedded
now I worried it's too little!
#needsmorelukeh
Mum went through the bounded Daily the other day after it arrived and was looking through the comments. she must have asked several times what the hashtags meant :)
Or as she called them, the criss cross words.
heh :)
my dad's wife actually posted saying b-word when she was having buffering problems. You worry about your parents sometimes but actually they can pick it up quite quickly ;)
:)
did they make her jump? Jump?
yay
there are no limits.
no, no. no, no, no, no.
There noo liiimmittss!!
*opens spotify*
:)
but not at chris cross!! Tsk ;)
So it looks like someone wants to meet me at Silverstone. That's fine.
Don't you dare
damon?
puts jeans on backwards and waits.
:)
ooh, lukeh i forgot to say.
i bought jonsi after the last daily and loved it. ta.
Awesome! Yay!
Think more in terms of blogging. I feel you may have more of a problem with him than I do though.
I must do this too
oh him. good luck ;)
YES!!!!!!! Jonsi is amazing!!!!! have you heard sigur ros?.. they are also epic.
oh lukeh, our music director at school went to see the preview to the jonsi tour, apparently it's breathtaking. Apparently it's more than a gig, it's like one of those experiences you never forget.. yyyaaaay for jonsi!
I also bought the album but have not had a chance
#sillyvolcano
woah. Awesome!
i will claim to have heard of sigur ros before almost everyone, bar steve lamaq and sigur ros themselves (probably).
the best song ever is 'around us' very beautiful
"Hi sigur ros, have you heard of you?
no...
well I have. hello you!"
So that's how Sigur Ros were created. What an odd conversation it must have been.
:)
I've just realised BBCF1 have stopped listening to anthems on their TV this year
:D this may be my favourite comment of the evening :)
We were talking about awesome cinematography earlier... have you seen Sigur Ros' music dvd Heima? it's beautiful.
I've locked myself out of my flat #blamesAmy
ahh, no. i really should. they are on the hd planet earth though.
Steve Lamaq spilt my pint in a bar once... Is that the bar you're talking about?
hehehe!!!
Nice! Have you all heard of Yndi Halda? I mentioned them ages ago but have lost track of them myself, must see if they've done new stuff.
Btw how does Steve get that apparently authoritative voice from such a weedy body? Must be some sort of setting because he can't really talk like that. #hasafairlyweedybodyandwantsabettervoice
:) it's a little long, but amazingly beautiful, it should come with a warning though. It makes you want to go to Iceland...
No that's supposed to happen when you move out
oh no! :(
Oh I;m definitely not wa...
...oh.
i don't think nothing will do that right now :)
I can't reach my flatmate :(
Is there no-one nearby you can stay with?
ah fair enough.. when the unpronounceable volcano settles down maybe ;). but the very idea of them playing an amazing home tour in random villages, on hilltops, in deserted factories and at bigger venues just makes me very happy :)
#sorrykathi
For any fans of The Killers, it would appear Brandom Flowers has a preview of his solo album on their website. Sounds relaxing. http://www.thekillersmusic.com/
yes there is but my bag is in the flat and my train leaves tomorrow morning at 6:30. How can I be that stupid?!?
omg! i knew they were going on hiatus but i didn't realise Brandon was releasing a solo album
I can see that would be a problem. Anyone can lock themself out though.
It's been rumoured for aaaaages but nothing definite. I thought he was gonna make a covers album based on previous evidence but clearly not :)
When is your flatmate due back?
if you're leaving anyway, break the window.
Time for sleep for me, am knackered. Night everyone :)
the window is open. I just can't reach it. But my friend decided the best way to pass the time is to finish her bottle of vodka. Maybe we will come up with a genius plan in an hour or so :)
Night.
night!!
i've got to go too, night all!! xx
seeya
Night Lukeh
Empty vodka bottle - window. I have an idea what the genius plan will be
Night Lou
Bye
I don't suppose you can borrow a ladder at this hour..
we can build our own. How hard can it be?
:)
That's the right attitude. A couple of vodkas and a home made ladder. What could possibly go wrong?
we have a little table and a chair and another chair and this box that looks almost stable ...
:D
Just make sure it is your friend who climbs up on top of that lot.
I'm back in my own flat.
You have to tell us how!
I called the janitor and paid him the regular fare of €20 for coming out in the middle of the night to rescue dumb students,
Ahh sensible
