Time is ticking onwards, and I have spotted a lot of people starting to get restless and impatient for the season to start. It's so close now, though, and we have waited so long, a few more days isn't going to do any harm.
- The FIA have published the final entry list for the 2009 season, and there's just a couple of tweaks. Brawn have moved down and the Ferrari boys seem to have swapped over. Do you think Massa had a bit of a moan?
- Raikkonen reckons that he is ten times more comfortable in the new than he was in last year's machine. He doesn't want to make any predictions about the upcoming season but is feeling more confident than this time in 2008. That's a good start to the season for the Finn, because we know a lot of last year's problems were an unsuitable car.
- Martin Brundle is not afraid of making predictions, though, and the BBC commentator has his money on Renault, and specifically Alonso, for success this year. Pat Symonds is also determined to win a couple of races this year, so if all this talk translates to success out on track, we're looking at a Renault resurgance!
That's about it for now, please feel free to veer off topic if you've got something to say. That's what the Daily threads are for. As ever, I'll see you in the comments.
Wow - 742 comments and counting on the last 'daily'. Are we excited about the new season, or what?
check.
Domenicali, too, is fearing Ross Brawn. Does that mean Brawn's pace is legit? If Ferrari are fearing him, and they were one of the fastest over the winter, what more the other teams?
Heh. Never mind this weekend - we might make 150K before it!
Good night Lou and Jon. :)
148,139
that's an almost impossible target.
in fact 20 of those are spam.
steven roy though - 2231 comments in 30 days :)
Never say never! 1900 in 4 days, thats only 475 a day, easy!
you're mental :)
here's a pic: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/sidepodcast-comment-total-png
how am I supposed to get any work done this week?
i shall take that as a challenge!!! :D
It's not 475 a day, it's only 3 days before FP1. It's 621 comments a day.
And the closer we get, the more comments we'll make. :)
hehehehe.
I was forced into it. They all keep picking on me.
ah didnt realise we were counting friday as the weekend too. 621 a day? easy, i can do that in my sleep :D
And it's easier than you think - we just need 9 comments an hour. And with FP1 72 hours away, that's easily achievable - even accounting for sleep!
only 9 an hour!?! thats simple, we should work out shifts :P
Unbelievably, yes. :D One comment every 7 minutes will do the trick. :P
I can imagine Kimi not giving a damn about having number 3 or 4 on the car. He has that WDC trophy on a shelf somewhere. But is he too relaxed about it? Did he have problems last year because he wasn't demanding enough?
I think the problem is twofold - he struggled with a car that didn't suit him. Add to that his dislike of PR work, and his motivation level may be starting to wane.
Kimi is looking more and more like James Hunt by the day. After Hunt won the title in 1976, he was uncompetitive in 1977 for various reasons. He was never the same again.
Lewis Hamilton is trying to get in Lou's good books.http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/news/2009/03/23/great-to-see-brawn-do-well-hamilton/
Is there going to be a place for an expensive recluse, now that purse strings are being tightend by sponsors? Even if he is fast? Who wants to pay millions of dollars to have a driver for one day (current driver commitment levels even to the top sponsors are no more than a day or two) that will barely communicate?
Lewis might be the most hated man in F1, but he is also the most loved. He glams it up for the cameras and that is desireable for sponsors.
It's not impossible if we keep discussing to fuel or not to fuel:)
Errr, Have we talked about what the regs mean with regards to the teams having to have I think, one engine last three races yet?
I think last year, the teams had to use the same engine on consectutive races. Does anyone know whether or not this rule still holds and the teams have to which engine needs to last three consectutive races or can the teams keep replacing engines for one with less wear four each race, so long as they cycle though the same eight engines reserved for racing?
There that should be a topic that will get to 150 k....
The rule now is that they can only use 8 engines for the entire season. So if you get an engine failure, you don't get a penalty right away, you just use your next engine. But when you start using a 9th engine, you will get a 10-place grid penalty at every succeeding race.
I understood that the penalty was 1 10-place grid drop for each engine used rather than at each race in which the engine is used?
Hmmm... Alia said it was a penalty for each race. Not sure how this is interpreted though.
Singapore news:
http://www.singaporegp.sg/press/track.php
Changes made to Turn 1 (Sheares; made it tighter), and Turn 13/14 (before Anderson Bridge; made it wider). They also modified the pit lane entry (now with a dedicated lane ala Valencia), and pit lane exit (now exiting before Turn 2, effectively skipping Turn 1).
Other than pit lane exit, they are relatively minor enhancements. Turn 10 (Singapore Sling) remains intact.
http://www.singaporegp.sg/press/launch.php
Also, tickets go out for most grandstands on April 6. Early bird discount applies to the first 50% of tickets sold. That will be useful - as regular ticket prices are actually higher than last year's ticket prices.
More details on the links.
Correction: Turn 13 is AFTER Anderson Bridge, Turn 14 is just after Esplanade Bridge.
So in summary:
Turn 1: tighter
Turn 13: wider
Turn 14: tighter
This is to improve passing opportunities.
Hmmm… Alia said it was a penalty for each race. Not sure how this is interpreted though.
Given my record on remembering rules I may well be mistaken. Blame the drugs. Prescription, I hasten to add!!
Can the FIAsco ever make their minds up about anything?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7960648.stm
I think the conclusion is they are giving an inch so they can take a mile later.
I think I mentioned this yesterday; they may be doing this in regards to the budget cap for 2010.
Just checked my local totaliser and they have Jenson Button equal favourite for Pole position and second favourite for race win....wow.
Well isn't this a nice gesture :)

eddie beats his drum... again:

indeed, i also like the idea that:

Comment in moderation, quite a 'nice' comment at that :-)
w00t!
gah! i hate the bloomin' michael schumacher :(
You must have known that before you started!
:)
Hi everyone!!
Only 2 days to go!! (I count it as Thursday evening!)
Might be old news but i've just read the FIA plan to cut the super licence fee
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7960648.stm
Any plans for a show on Thursday night? I'm sure loads of us will be hanging around trying to kill time until FP1
There won't be a live show, but we've got stuff coming out all this week to keep you entertained.
Sounds good
Did you ever use any of those samples my band forwarded to you?
Need anymore predictions for the race? I should really give you a call and leave some
Not yet, we've still got them though.
Predictions welcome anytime.
Cool cool, use them to your hearts delight..we broke up last week so they'll never be needed again etc
Oooh... shame about that. Hope it was on good terms.
Say it ain't so! :(
http://www.virtualr.net/f1-2009-delayed-until-2010/
Alas, it is. But hey, it'll still be out this year for PSP - which I have. :D
aww :(
Hey all, had a great day watching some driver interviews today and thought I'd share with those not fortunate enough to be in Melbourne: Here's Mark Webbers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPL12NP3pUM and Klien and Glock will be up soon
isn't that the same rumour from last week? has there been any further info from the developers?
thank you amy, too kind, am watching now.
So as I'm bored this morning, I decided to rank the teams as I see them right now. I know I shouldn't yet but this is what happens when boredem sinks in. View jpg
(should point out I have no idea how to use drop.io xD)
It's all good, a couple of lads just had enough of gigging etc. It's not as easy as people think it is (being in a band), 3 nights a week for the past 3 years now and inevitably people get bored with it. So yeah i'm now looking for a new band.........
But it's F1 this week so i've got something to take my mind of it all!! Whooo hoooo can't wait
Thinking about sticking £20 down on Alonso in the bookies to win the WDC......
What you think?
You're better of sticking it down on a Brawn - Button, perhaps. :)
Better off, rather.
Dank has made his bets for Australia: http://bit.ly/placeyourbets
I think Brawn won't be the best car in the field once the competition really starts hotting up, I think Ruben's will have the better of Jenson this year, he just seems faster over the past year. No doubt Brawn were superb in testing but anything other then being back at the grid was going to be a 'leap forward' for them considering nobody expected them to race. Come actual qualifying and racing I think realistically they're gonna be top of the mid pack (if that makes sense).
Alonso if he carries on the form of last year is gonna drag himself onto that podium come rain or shine.
Being a McLaren fan (ducks quickly) i'll be happy to see a few podiums and maybe a win here or there. I don't expect a classic year :-)
you've done it perfectly, but i'm going to re-paste your link in order to cover up some dodgy coding on my part:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/jpg
shh ;)
So who do you think will contend for the title?
That said, I think Brawn's boys have a better chance than Fernando this year to mount a title assault. Even if they're no longer the quickest by mid-season, they just need to consistently score points and be there to pick up the pieces when the front-runners mess up.
Hmmm… Alia said it was a penalty for each race. Not sure how this is interpreted though. {Comment #26}
That was my original understanding of it. However, the FIA changed the wording on March 17 to make it clear that it only intended there to be one penalty per engine over the prescribed 8.
I see Mrs Christine got round to following me on Twitter :D
Shameless plug time!
http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2009/03/24/australian-gp-history-1985-1995-video/
My first article of 2009. Similar format to my 2008 articles... until Bahrain, anyway. :)
Tonight I'm going to have my birthday celebratory dinner-cum-Mother's Day celebratory dinner at a local restaurant.
Just to confuse matters, my birthday's not until Thursday, but I can't skip the last Text Processing class before the exam to go stuff myself with good food.
Scott,
Seeing as you have been out of the loop for a while, good to see you back and welcome to 2009 ;-)
I think it is wide open right now. It is your money, but at least you should get good odds
How suspicious should I be of things that go on on Twitter? Apparenly my name has been added to the list as an official guest at a McLaren PR event on Thursday morning? If this is an elaborate hoax, what do I have to lose by turning up?
Amy is our Sidepodcorrespondent!
oooh go for it!
if it turns out to be true it could possibly be the greatest day of my life!
go you!
If it turns out to be fake I think it will still be a good story!
Erm, I posted yesterday? :P
And I was never out of the loop. Just not concentrating on what was going on inside it ;)
Perhaps you should print the twit, juuuust in case. :)
But if it's true... w00t!!!
I know, I'm just havin a larf :-)
It pains me to say but I don't expect Lewis to be in the fight until at least 6 or so races in (pending car development). I think it's going to be between
Kimi, Alonso, Lewis (eventually), Kubica
I know that Renault has been shown to be a mid pack car at the moment, I just think Fernando will drag more out of it. He totally surprised me last year. Button just doesn't scream 'champion' to me at all, he seems far more comfortable flirting with Louise Goodman then beating his team mate lol
I left out Massa cos I honestly have no idea, he'll either be just nail everyone and do it this year or have a relatively average season.
I want my fav driver Heidfeld to win a race this year, I was gutted for him in Canada 2008. My girlfriend's got a sneaky feeling Glock is going to be the surprise of 2009. Maybe not win it but win a couple of races.
If it turns out to be fake I think it will still be a good story!
My brother says if it turns out to be fake I may be abducted or killed!
Where did they tell you to go, anyway? :)
technically, abductions and killings make for good stories... :)
is it for the beach thingy the team always do with their mobile phones? that's in a public place, and would seem to be relatively safe.
Just watched the 1994 Highlights through again. That must have been one of the oldest Podiums ever!
Just watched the 1994 Highlights through again. That must have been one of the oldest Podiums ever!
1950 Swiss grand Prix was, I believe, the oldest. A combined age of 144 years. Farina, Fagioli and Rosier were the top 3. Fagioli was 5 days short of his 52nd birthday!
I know nothing about motorbikes, but this seems ominous:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/73793
Two day race weekends, no Friday practice, all in the name of cutting costs. Also, why aren't rookies allowed to join works teams?
Not sure why they'd ban rookies to join works teams right away, to be honest. Let's remember - Stoner went straight to the factory team, and he turned out well.
Funny, too, how he has to fend off criticism that F1 is adapting faster than MotoGP to the recession.
What's Stoner?
:D
Oi, oi... Not a MotoGP watcher, then?
Casey Stoner is an Aussie MotoGP rider and won the 2007 title with Ducati. Pretty hot Italian wife, too.
And after further research, turns out he didn't start with Ducati right off the bat; he started with a privateer team first.
A person - Casey Stoner.
Ah ok.
Sometimes I wish clients would spring for a new network.

Isn't it a Glasgow Kebab speciality dish?
A pork sausage wrapped in kebab meat, dipped in thick batter and deepfried and served on a huge pile of chips.
I don't recommend them.
That sounds... like a heart attack.
I did not taste that good either.
IT! It did not taste that good...
Hmmm... Methinks you'll like my final question for the panel... :P
All I'll tell you guys is to think of some special moments F1 has had that you remember. ;)
Uh oh.....
Short Film review.
Quantum of Solace.
Why does this exist? Utter garbage.
Sidepodspace update:
Obama has called the ISS astronauts to congratulate them.
In my opinion, Quantum of Solace is a good action film. However, it is NOT a good bond film. Shame really.
My opinion of the best Bond is not looked upon kindly. I still think Dalton nailed the the role. Especially after having read the books.
However QoS isn't even that good a spy film or action film. I still think that The Bourne trilogy widdles over the last 2 bond films from a massive height.
Book Bond is a different creature to movie Bond. Dalton was the most faithful, but I still think Connery is the best. Had Dalton done Dr. No and From Russia with Love, Bond probably wouldn't have lasted this long.
The Bond series should have ended after Dalton. Pierce Boghopper was pretty bad, Daniel Craig has not much over him.
The biggest problem is they just won't do classic Bond films again, innuendo, gadgets and big explosions - thats all we need. :D
Look, I know that with 17 races, each engine has to run two races and one engine has to run three races. What I would love to know If I can keeping switching between the same eight engines between each race? Her's what I have in mind:
The engine that races in Melbourne, also races in the Nurburgring and Abu Dhabi. The first engine.
The Malaysian and Hungarian Engines share the same engine. The second engine.
The Third engine is used buy the Chinese and European races.
And so on until the eight engine is used by the Britsh and Brazilian Grand Prixes.
This is just a simple rotate the engine in numerial order per race system. but it is within the letter of the regs. 8 Engines are used in 17 races, so there should not be a grid drop penality becasue I am not using a ninth engine.
My question is important becasue after each engine has completed one race, The engineer can check the levels or wear on the engine to see which order of engines gives the engineer the best chance of making the engines last the final nine races, and which of the eigth engines has the best cahnce of surviving the Abu Dhabi grand prix after already going two full races....
Frank Williams speaks out about Brawn:
"Ross started to work for us as a junior in the little wind tunnel; he just made his own career and pulled himself up by his bootstraps, and now has great knowledge from his time at Ferrari. It is no accident that their new car is absurdly superior - they are making the rest of us look like amateurs. In Australia they will disappear on the basis of what we have seen in testing. I just hope we can be up there, too".
"It is embarrassing. We have not done well but there is no point in moaning and groaning, we just keep it to ourselves and try to do better. But we are very good, loyal, honest citizens of Formula One and a good racing team who deserve to be there".
Pierce is pretty good, actually. Many people in our part of the world like him. And we can't understand why so many people think Daniel Craig is so much better than him - he isn't!
They won't - movie-goers aren't into that anymore. They want realism in their movies. When they did it with Casino Royale, it was an absolute hit.
According to the reg, once an engine has been discarded, it can't be used for a race again. So they still have to use them in succession. But I think Fridays are a free for all.
Also, the ten place drop is per new engine after the eight have been used up. So if you swap in the ninth and that lasts you the season, you only get the one drop.
That is actually possible - some teams may actually do that.
Really? Darn - what a shame.
Ah, that's good to hear.
Nice to see Frank say nice things about Ross. If Brawn are even competitive this season (and they almost definitely will be), I'll put Ross right up there as one of the best engineers of all time - if he isn't already.
are you sure? i thought it was with race engines, hence why we're not expecting to see much action?
Um, no, I am not sure. I check.
Frank said that? w00t! :D
I still don't want to get overexcited just in case but damnit, quotes like that just makes me want to shout in happiness for Brawn :P
Pierce did have the innuendo part down, but the scrips and direction were dismal.
Daniel Craig has the ruthless side, but is lackign in, well everything else. :D Although the other half liked the bit where he came out of the water for some reason? Completely escapes me why though.
Absolute hit? Hmmm... did you miss typing a letter? ;)
One thing to be thankful for with the bond films, it's keeping the 007 Stage in use. Also, they do a lot of practical effects rather than CGI'ing it all.
I'm actually off to see a classic bond at next week and then off to meet one of the stars. :D You only Live Twice, then off to see Little Nellie and her creator.
Ah, okay. Yes. Sorry.
The regulations define "an Event" as two different things for the engines and the gearbox. For engines it includes Fridays, for gears it doesn't.
Not his fault, is it? ;) He did the best with what he had.
Hahaha! Great body, so-so face,
I wish I did, but the box-office receipts say otherwise.
Well, that's true. :)
Cool! Do tell us how it goes. :)
Bond. Sidepod-Bond. :D
Howdy all, am back from a very productive day.
Just discovered this...its un-F1 related but its very funny
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7959155.stm
And straight away after that...
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/73876
Bugger. :(
...aaaand straight back down to earth. You can just tell they'll have a good race in australia then protests will see something get them penalised. One day we'll get a season based on racing rather than regulations.
christ! i think we're going to need multiple spreadsheets.
What happens if its found not right? Will Brawn have brought a different diffuser to oz? just in case?
So that's Ferrari, Renault, and Red Bull-Renault protesting. Safe to say STR-Ferrari will do the same.
Brawn, Williams, and Toyota are using the diffusers.
Where does this leave McLaren, Force India, and BMW? Won't McLaren support their own customer team? Then again... maybe not.
I'm absolutely sure he will have thought of this the moment Flavio said he didn't like their diffuser. He's not Ross Brawn for nothing!
nope. they'll be DQ'd post race.
Doesn't necessarilly mean it was a good film.
Pirates of the Carribean? Saw? Spirderman 3? Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull? Sex and the City? The Incredble Hulk? Wanted? Beverly Hills Chihuahua? High School Musical?
i disagree. the whole of that car form the nose to the rear wing is designed around that diffuser. he is not going to give up that advantage without a major fight.
no i mean if it fails scruteneering?
Unless the matter was clarified before the race weekend got underway.
Also, Ferrari didn't get DQed for their flexible floor in 2007, so why would Brawn get a DQ now? The result will probably stand, on the condition that they'll need to make the change for Malaysia.
Wasn't Ron Dennis involved in the protesting?
On the risk of a DQ? His team can't afford that. He's fighting for his team's life here.
He was? Where did you read it?
he'll protest. that'll take months and months.
That's just stating the obvious that Nelsonho stinks in the second Renault. Now I hope everyone here loves the song "Deutschland uber alles" becasue we are going to be hearing it a total of 25 times this season, 17 for BMW and 8 for Heidfeld.... Guess who I am picking for 2009's Driver's Championship?
In Melbourne we get to see Heidfeld's maiden win by 0.019 seconds over Kubica, and two laps back Trulli will be coming in third... Hopefully the others will be able to bring down the gap by a lap or so by the end of the season....
course he can, no worries.
http://www.autosport.com/news/grapevine.php/id/73866
Oh great...
And if his protest fails, all his results get DQed. Again, that's something he can't afford.
different protest. not related :)
Oh. Too many protests. I give up.
Would happily have Brawn change their diffuser for Aus to be safe than sorry then let the regulations be completely sorted out afteewards rather than them running the risk of a good result then DQ. I'm sure Williams and Toyota fans would agree if it meant making everyone ruddy happy but it's all down to what the teams think
when was the last time ross brawn lost an appeal? he knows what he's doing, don't worry.
if he has to he'll redefine the rules... again.
If anyone can stop a team from being disqualified from a race, It's Ross.
hehehe. that was over money from bernie.
He added: "If they come in here with a gun and hold it to my head, they had better be sure they can f***ing pull the trigger. And they should make sure it's got bullets in it because, if they miss, they better look out."
My new favourite Bernie quote
absolutely.
He's not with Ferrari anymore. That's a BIG factor here. Ferrari can redefine the rules too.
We can all live and hope:-)
And what if FOTA come out and support Flavio and Ron and they all decide not to run?
It probably won't happen, but still...
it's too complicated. it's not like a lego brick that can be snapped off and on at a whim. the whole car is based around that diffuser.
never gonna happen. if it was, the plane wouldn't have taken off.
bernie was well aware of that.
Good point there. Let me have a think on that one.
ah.. fair enough. to be honest the technical side of the diffuser argument goes way over my head ;)
Form an orderly queue behind the gunsight!
Me first! :D
please do. it's been ages since we had a good debate :)
unless they decide on it at the last minute?
Could be worse. I'm still not sure which part of the back is the diffuser! I thought it was the bar with the red light on the end, but I'm not so sure now.
:D
if you debate the comment numbers go up....we need 625 today :D :D :D
this is how good the diffuser is. ian phillips of force india said in their latest podcast, that it's so smart fif1 simply do not have the supercomputing power to match it.
not - "we'll copy it in a couple of months", but "we do not have that kind of CFD power available".
they are not just going to remove it to keep the peace.
We are at 148,420 right now.
Halfway through today's quota then. ;)
Back to Ross getting DQed, it's hard to truly judge because he was with Ferrari for so long. It kinda skews things for Ross. Prior to that, he was caught with that fuel filter system at Benetton in 1994, but they weren't penalized for it - forgiven, so to speak.
see this piccy:
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/124056
the thing at the bottom covered in green paint.
Ah, cool. Wan't far off. Thanks!
Sorry, that's meant to say wasn't
Or, rather, the LACK of the FIA-mandated fuel filter.
biggest issue we could have is if brawn, toyota and williams finish in the top 6 and all are temporarily dq'd. the guy who finishes 7th will be the temporary winner until it goes to appeal.
don't forget that brawn is the technical blokey for FOTA too.
just to add something extra to the mix.
Do his business cards say that, do you think?
i do hope so :)
What if only those 6 cars finish?
Only 6 cars finished last year...
Latest prattling from Bernies mouth.
Teams to blame for lack of American tracks in F1.
So after all the slating that Bernie gave the tracks and the pain of travelling over there, and how they didn't want to pay... it's the teams fault?
Yes Bernie, of course it is...
NURSE! Another patient for you!
oooh. even better.
i guess though if only those three teams finish, no-one can appeal the result?
LOL. :D
It'll be so disappointing if all this protest and appeal stuff overshadows too much of the season. I'm so sick of politics.
"We are talking," the Briton revealed, "but for the moment the teams do not want any more than 17 races."
what he actually means is "i replaced canada and indi and now the teams dont want any more races"
and the hidden launch control
He even tries to blame the teams for not being able to bring it back!
can totally understand that. i secretly quite like it, but don't tell steven, cause it's not how racing should be :)
the way i see it, you follow fast cars and get politics thrown in for free. but i imagine i am absolutely in the minority here.
4 wheel steering as well.
staggering.
Bernie is counting on it to split FOTA. You can absolutely bet there will be some scrutineering issue which will be allowed to run for a few months as a way of levering FOTA apart or at least levering Ferrari out of FOTA.
he's using the teams' own statements against them.
Can I quickly clear something up I just thought of, didn't Max or bernie say sometime last year they wanted the teams to be more innovative with the cars when the new rules come in? I just have a vague memory in my mind of seeing them say it..
James Allen has posted a season preview on the ITV website: http://www.itv-f1.com/Feature.aspx?Type=James_Allen&id=45318&PO=45318Looks like he's still going to be writing for ITV this year.
I recommend Jake Humphey's blog on BBC. Has pictures and everything today. :D
link?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/jakehumphrey/2009/03/melbourne_warms_up.html
^^Opps yeah a link would have helped... :S
Nice!
I'm defintiely warming to jake, his blog so far has been enjoyable reading. Hopefully his [presenting will be as good.
I think I was the only person there today who knew who he was.
I dunno if anyone else has noticed but Johnathon legard now has a blog up on the BBCF1 site
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/jonathanlegard/2009/03/so-which-current-drivers-getti.html
Not going to be around much for the next few hours - got to puppy-sit.
Daft little 13 week old labrador puppy. Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
I like that blog alot, thats great!
God, the FIA. With this stupid ruling, you can see that everyone's going to use the same engine for the first three races, just so that they do not get stuck with having to use a ninth engine (and suffer a grid penalty) with a discarded but not worn-out sitting on a shelf beside them.
Is that bad then?
not sure. the key thing is to ensure you don't do monza and spa with the same engine i guess.
The rules get even more stupid. According to something Alianora wrote in her blog if a team changes an engine between qualifying and the race they can't use it until the last race of the season. Quite how anyone came up with that is beyond me. How can an engine that is changed this Saturday be illegal for 15 consecutive races then be legal for the last one? Hopefully Alianora has got to the bottom of that and found it was an FIA translation error.
I think that's true of any engine throughout the year. It can make it's comeback in Abu Dhabi.
That is insane. You could end up with a team getting a grid penalty while it has eight legal engines for Abu Dhabi.
Why would they do that?
Bernie claims Flavio and Ron threatened to boycott the first race of the season:http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?id=45319&PO=45319What the?
Ok, for some reason, my formatting isn't working. Maybe it's because I hold down shift and enter (A habit I obtained on MSN messenger). Sorry! I'll try again:
Are you using the LCLT? The formatting wouldn't work on it for me the other day at all, just something perhaps to bring up if mr c sees this.
Check it out guys - I'm now part of the RaceDepartment Media Team. I did my first blog post there last night and it's already the Featured Post on the homepage.
http://forum.racedepartment.com/blogs/scott-woodwiss/59-you-know-theyre-not-so-ugly-now.html
Yep, LCLT. I bookmarked it before the doohickey and haven't converted yet.
Hi everyone.
Hi Chris
Chris says hi to Chris. Lovely. :D
ummmm....
1) who?
2) it's asking me to login
am aware, will fix at some point, soz.
That's alright. I just wanted to make sure I didn't look like someone who didn't know anything (says the guy who asked what a diffuser was earlier) and couldn't format properly. While we're on the topic, can I suggest an edit post function for the LCLT?
I think so. You have had cases of teams being forced to run 2nd-time engines at power circuits like Monza and Spa becasue Monza and Spa where back to back. Now I heard that the lost in power for a 2nd time engine is 5% of a fresh one, but still I think the drivers would welcome the extra 5% more power say going into Les Combes in Spa or the Variante Goodyear at Monza.... And I could only wonder how many more engine failures there would have been at the old Hockenheimring if some sucker of a team had to run a 2nd-time engine there. Talked about "Promised DNF."
On the flip side of the coin, we know of circuit where power is not critical places like Monaco and Hungary and one would suspect, Mangy-Cours, so if you have to run 2nd-time engines, why not at those circuits and leave the fresh engines for the power circuits?
Finally, we are going into a new circuit at Abu Dhubi for the final race. Under this system the teams have no other choice to run the engine that raced at Brazil. With my ssytem you have a choice of the freshest of eight engines that been in two races. You would hate to see the championship won becasue of an engine chance, wouldn't you? It becomes the fault of the engine why or why not and not the driver.
A community which mainly deals with "virtual motorsport" so Race Pro, RACE 07, rFactor - that sort of thing.
No problem. I'll quote it from the site. Apologies in advance if it's a bit long.
Every Chris has an unspoken bond, understood only by us.
Or something.
The diffuser is part of the chassis is it not?
If they need to change it, it would require a complete new chassis? What about a new crash test?
Look at how long the Toyota and Williams designs have been the in public domain, and the other teams (such as Ferrari) STILL have not been able to copy it yet - this is not a minor change. If the diffusers are banned it could derail Brawn's and William's seasons totally - and I doubt the Toyota board in Japan would be too chuffed either.
Could any of these teams survive their cars being declared illegal?
you have no idea how complicated that is to make happen.
it's scheduled for an introduction in august, which means in sidepodtime, about xmas :)
yup.
the teams wouldn't go this far down the road on a whim. the regulations are badly written. what is odd though is ian's point earlier that RBR enquired and were told "no".
can't see it happening.
True. The LCLT is WAY out of my website designing league.
the highlighter car?
I love the BBC. I thought it was meerly going to be 5 minutes.
it being declared illegal? or them surviving it?
I think (i.e. hope) he is referring to the body work - not the livery
Blimey, 895 comments in yesterdays Daily, are we aiming for 1000 in a day or something now?
Aiming for 150K before FP1. We're just under 60 hours to go now.
aiming for 150,000 before FP1
So what are we debating about tonight then ;)
March 24th, 2009 at 17:00 #222 - me said:
Oh and for the record, the new Brawn GP BGP001 is the best looking car on the grid. Period.
the highlighter car
I hate to say this, but if Brawn used Black as the basic colour with say glow-in-the-dark yellow or red or normal blue or purple highlights the car would look like those neck-snapping neoprene bikinis that Body Glove used to make....
Just dropping a sponourship idea that Ross might want to think about...
Where is Variante Goodyear at Monza?
No. The diffuser is screwed on to the chassis but changing the design of the diffuser will probably be a bigger step that re-designing the chassis. Everything in front of the diffuser affects how it and they works. If a team puts a larger chord front wing on that can choke the flow to the diffuser and make it less efficient. Everything between the front wing and the diffuser affect how the flow that leaves the wing arrives at the diffuser.
Damnit. It the one after the start/finish line that disappeared from the time when they used to have the double-chicance there. Italian is a fourth language in priority for me so I am not really going to remember corner names to well.
We do not know what they asked...
But my understanding to the procedure is - if the teams want to clarify their interpretation of the rules, they contact Charlie, and if he agrees, he tells them yes. If he disagrees, then he tells ALL teams no.
Was this done?
Diffusers, Engines, and how Brawn will win in Aus.
I thought that was called Variante Retifillio (spelling) I assume they have commercialised it with a few bucks from Goodyear.
I agree. Pants colour scheme, but the best looking shape underneath.
Should have gone for British racing green – or failing that, left it in naked carbon fibre
.. and then have the win removed after Red Bull's complaint. Can a diffuser really be worth 5/10th's?
Yes, basically :P
I kinda think the BGP001 is the best looker. (but not the spray-job). I love the low nose.
Also, Button's favorite in the betting for the win in Australia.
Button 10/3
Kimi 9/2
Massa 5/1
Alonso 6/1
Barrichello 6/1
Weird that Button's odds are so much lower than Rubens'.
Easily.
That was the first one, and is the name that they kept when they re-profiled the circuit. Even for you, it is just easier to spell "Goodyear" than whatever that Retifillio is properly spelt...
He has more chance of winning or more people are betting on him
I'm telling ya, Webber is a good bet.
More people will bet on Button because of nationality. The odds don't just reflect the chances of someone winning. They also reflect the amount of money bet on each driver.
are there any odds for a rubenas 1-2-3?
*rubens
Nobody could get them out of that situation better than Ross Brawn. He knows what he's doing.
the lower part of the diffuser is part of the floor, no?
yup.
winder if you can bet that the diffusers will be banned?
If you want to bet on that I will give you 500/1
The shape of the floor affects the diffuser but if the current diffusers are illegal they can be unbolted and a new legal one bolted on (or attached with aerospace blu tac if Christine has invented it). The new one won't work though.
i swear last years renault diffuser wasn't bolted on, but rather a moulded part of the floor.
however, i can't prove it because they wouldn't let me take pictures.
Is it just me or is time really dragging this week
nope.
I guess this means that that the first thing that crosses the finish line is Ruben's brake pedal.
The second thing to cross the finish line is the master cylinder from the engine of Ruben's car...
The third thing to cross the finish line is either the left rear ballast or KERB's system if they are using it, again from Ruben's car... quite possible actually. :P
that didn't answer your question at all, did it?
:P
nope LOL .. maybe its just cause it's soooo close now I'm getting excited and time can't pass quickly enough
for us, no. time is rapidly running out. we need at least another week.
Viva F1 :D
you guys watch the track,
I'm gona watch the stewards office - I think this is where the action will be this weekend :(
Your gonna miss all those crashes, there'll be so many there will only be three finishers.
and all of them will be rubens!
:)
I was thinking Heidfeld, Timo and Webber. But we can extend it to four.
For Kubica obviously
#265 - Lukeh said:
Your gonna miss all those crashes, there’ll be so many there will only be three finishers.
and all of them will be rubens!
And Steven Roy will be out 500 to wahtever 1 Lukeh Antes up. Take a punt, Lukeh.
Steven Roy can only blame Steven Roy for this ......
awesome quote :)
I know this is a GMM *cough* story but its being reported that Alonso and Piquet have taken a pay cut
If you consider "Action" in F1 just to be solely passes and crashes; I must admit that if I really want to see passes and crashes, I would go to the local singles bar...
Maybe it's cos they're contract is in dollars, just a thought
or maybe Renault are in the financial do-do?
Quite a lot of passes due to refuelling there though ;)
That's a pretty accurate financial assessment, you're already more qualified than a lot of industry execs Jackie!
True, I admit I would not recommend it for Steven Roy for that reason... although the ones that attempt a pass right after the refueling stop do seem to cause the biggest crashes...
If the Brawn diffuser is found to be legal, I wonder how long it will take before we start seeing that design on the other cars .. or would the lack of testing make them more wary of changing
depends how good their CFD processes are, i guess.
it'll give them something to do on a friday anyhow :)
Assuming that the diffuser is found to be legal, then I would think that the other teams would not bother coming up with their own version as Braun's version obviously backfired on Team Brawn, and Team did not do so well at Austrailia with this disffuser.
Eh?
If Brawn does well in Australia, his diffuser is going to be found illegal. If Brawn does poorly in Australia, his diffuser will be legal.
Either way, why bother copying a diffuser that is either illegal or has lesser perfromance than your own?
It is possible. I would have thought that they would want the option of changing a diffuser on its own rather than the whole floor if someone hits them from behind or in case a driver smashes it on some agressive kerbs.
I am offering odds against the official result after all the appeals etc not on the order of the first three random bits of car that cross the line.
They were paying Piquet??
Gee you are more cynical than me :D
:D
To crash in Singapore
needs further investigation :)
:D
You could play the game and pretend to do badly in Oz, have the diffuser shown to be legal and then show your true performance in the following races
:P
I think the bottom line is that neither of us really know. We are basing our assumptions on the little we know or can guess at.
Something is giving me the feeling that Autosport are now sponsored by Michelin. I can't quite put my finger on it though
what could possibly give you that idea!? :P
I'm quite good at those sublimal messages I guess
Either that or Bibendum is trying to out-do Panda in the celebrity stakes!
Not really. Just an overworked Race Engineer at at RSPCRF1 (Relentless Sidepodcast Panda Cosworth Racing F1) who does not see the point of designing copies of illegal or underperforming diffusers....
Is Panda going to appear on the BBC intro's or something?
I wouldn't put it past him
But why.... Piquet crashes for free!
Sidepodcast version of Ant v Dec, who can get the most coverage.
we both agree that changing a diffuser means that the whole of the car from the nose to the rear wing will need redesigning, so the ability to switch one for another is irrelevant :)
At least I can tell which is Panda and which is Bibendum
(Or care, for that matter)
It would be annoying if he wasn't so darn cute.
:D
Ref: Last of the Late BraKERS article on Pitlane Fanatic
Are Flybrid Systems doing a national tour or something? They're really pimping their wares aren't they?
Now look who is cynical.....
It didn't actually dawn on me that it was the same guy that had presented the London meeting till I checked the Flybird website .. he was a really good speaker but I did feel a bit misplaced amongst all the guys.
Well, I did say I was cynical LD
LD? that was supposed to be a smiley face
My understanding of the engine regulations is that teams are allowed to use the 8 engines how they see fit, the order and number of uses is entirely up to them.
The restriction is that once an engine has been used and removed from a car, the ports will be sealed by FIA officials so that no work can be done on it before it is re-used.
I'm guessing this would also prevent inspection to measure wear.
Does looking at an engine constitute 'work'?
In the FIA's eyes, that's probably a yes
Just found out that ITV now that they don't have an F1 contract have made their videos available worldwide. These include martin Brundle driving old F1 cars.
http://www.itv-f1.com/VideoWorldwide.aspx
they've removed all the interesting ones though?
What's the thinking behind raising the pitlane speed limit to 100kph (62 mph)?
so rookies can get a strike when they forget to brake
Ah, Nakajima Bowling!
yes indeedy!
that's brilliant :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QI6bqQa5EMI&feature=related
striiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiike
Well, I guess the teams will have data on their engine performances from year to year at various tracks so no chnace to inspect this year's would not be a complete loss.
And I can imagine the teams looking over their engines this year while they have them at the races measuring wear to best determine which of the eight goes to the last race.
we're just over half way on todays quota for comments!!
KEEP GOING!!
There is a quota?
We may have accidentally suggested we could hit 145k total comments before the action begins. Jon is determined.
we're going for 150,000 before FP1 on friday, so we need a certain amount a day
17
i don't think determined is quite strong enough :D
18 :D
Aren't we just better off aiming for a cool 150k by the end of the debrief show!
Ok, by FP1 is fine
Ah no because thats bound to happen!
So how many do we need to achieve said target?
About 6000 or so, I think
i think it was 625 today, tomorrow and thursday
Pity we couldn't have a live impromptu panel .. that would generate loads
ah no, much lower than that, we were at 148,200 earlier
Christine or 'Me' can we have a comment count please?
I've just noticed
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/sidepodcast-comment-total-png
No sweat then
I saw that coming a mile off! :)
148,600.
hehe, thank you very much
You know your audience at least :)
1400 sure Steven Roy could do a fair few of those :D
74 a day average at the moment, am sure that is rising too
Hey all :D i've just got back from a rather lovely day in london :) but i have loads and loads of work to do for tomorrow... so i was just wondering if i've missed much today other than what is covered in f1minute :)
I have stopped commenting. Saving my finger tips for the start of the season.
Slow news day as they gear up for Oz, press releases and interviews and 'I can win' stories
Do voicemail comments count?
ahhh nooo!!! your our star commentor, like Michael Jordan in the NBA :P
Bernie said Barrichello would beat Button in the championship and the Brawn diffusers might be illegal.
He has retired. The NBA still exists.
Bernie also said medals were a good idea
Bernie is delusional, allegedly ;)
How about naming your favourite driver and giving 5 reasons why you support him
There's a lot of Bs in there.
ahhh toucheé
I can only see one LOL
Who do people think is going to win Constructor's championship this year?
Oh i like that... brilliant!
Ferrari, but it's just a guess I having nothing to back that up with
Bernie bluffs button and Brawn bravado for blogs
Probably: Ferrari
Want: McLaren (or Brawn)
i saw that this morning. Bernie doesn't know what he is talking about :P
only 5? :P
A lot of BS you mean ;)
:P
Your + is back?
Do you have DD and old skool doohickey open?
:D
How about we try and come up with some aliterative (is that a word) titles for the wiining team in Oz
Is that a Wii Sports term? ;)
Alliteration competition?
oops, tis a well known fact that I have dyslexic fingers
:)
Brutal Boss Bernie Beaten as Barrichello and Button Battle for Brawn Brilliance
9 points to Lukeh
Dear Apple/Steve Jobs
Please release an Apple Netbook forthwith so I can live comment F1 races this year and still watch on a wacking big telly
Thank you
Mr Clapper
ps. Alternatively, a battery powered wheely trolley for my iMac would come a distant second
I hope you have seen Saturday Night Live's iRack? It's on You Tube...
BMW going to walk away with the Constructors before the half-way point is reached.....
Intelligence briefings on iRack :D :) :D
Brawn's Button and Barrichello bring bloody brilliant banter to beginning of Bernie's brainless battle?
Not sure what that means, but...
I hate having to play catch up on F1 news. Been out of the loop for the past few days and it's slightly annoying. Damn OCDness :-)
itouch?
wow 11 b's thats impressive!
Grrr
No iPod Touch for me, waiting for the iPhone refresh this summer.
Plus, am guessing live commenting during races will be moving by a little too rapidly for that!
i'll try it and let you know.
Has anyone seen a film about Audi winning at Le Mans called 'Truth in 24'?
Apparently it's available for free on iTunes...
Free?
*Quickly runs to ITunes.
Only in the States, sorry :-(
it is available for torrent...
US only?
Is it wrong to post links to free content?
*Skids to a halt and walks back, grumbling
Or rather, would it be wrong to upload the 1.4GB file to drop.io?
The interst from search engines may not be such a good thing
if it's illegal, then yes :)
that would take you forever to upload?
Official trailers here
There are other ways which should probably not be discussed here...
Really?
That was sarcasm by the way. But the best way is to (wink, wink) not mention it on sidepocast (nudge, nudge)
I hear Google can be quite handy these days in finding things
It is a most excellent search engine :D
Puppy is less sweet now. Just peed on the floor....
Is there a picture of puppy :)
I was thinking more other terms for it, maybe 'Go Out Of Garage, Leave Everything'
We want puppy pic. (not of it peeing of course, that would be slightly disturbing)
Don't have one and parents have my camera at the moment. Imagine a 13 week old, fairly fat, chocolate brown labrador - looking immensely guilty.
Like a an old British sports car, though easier to clean, not to fix
cameraphone?
Don't say your dog ate it either.
I don't think Flibster's phone is that kind of multitasker
It's a old brick isn't it. :D
It's 4 years old and I love it - nothing has even come close to replacing it yet.
You're lucky it was just pee.... Still, with the state the bath is probably still in after the engine cleaning.....
something new for you...
prior to every race weekend christine digs through the photographic archives for a big picture:
http://www.f1bigpicture.com/
tuesday is flashback day and wednesday will be a look back to '08, while thursday should be paddock atmosphere day.
predictably fri/sat/sun will likely be from the circuit.
it's all up in the air (as ever), but we'll play around and see if it works. feedback as ever is grateful.
:D
grateful?
i think i meant "gratefully welcomed", it's the ammonia ya see.
Wow, Jenson in a fast car!
Does that mean what I think it means? Gratuitous shots of pit lane girls? :D
sounds like a great idea! looking forward to seeing how it plays out over the season
I lurve that piccie.
You never know, the feedback might be grateful. Have you asked it?
There's nothing gratuitous about setting an atmosphere :D
Can I suggest we have
Mon : Classic (2000-2007)
Tue : Classic ("")
Wed : Classic ("")
Thur : Classic (""")
Fri : Classic (""")
Sat : Atmosphere
Sun : Race
there are no una's this year. nor any fosters girls :(
Damn that ING.
Mon : Loser's signing autograph's after race?
Bath is spotless. :)
Spent the last couple of days re-tiling the bathroom so it's all clean and wonderful.
You must've made some mess then
*removes hat and bows head...* :(
Was that planned or unplanned?
:D
Yikes! Ammonia!!!
Other than the odd oily handprint on the old tiles and a couple of drops of thick oil on the wood floor on the hallway - nothing. It's an achievement for me. :)
Totally planned. I was to redecorate the bathroom while the other half was in India. All done apart from replacing the manky carpet - thats for tomorrow.
oops, didn't think you were around.
Making of... at Audi USA news

Just lurking, me ;-)
Surprise? or does she know?
I bet she notices.
I have cleaned up the 'This week's panellists page for you guys to add your names in. http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Next+Week's+Panellists
Hey, J-damper - do you still want my question list from last week?
Her idea. :( We've only just finished the kitchen...
It's pretty much all wiped up. Plus I can put the rug down over the top of the oil drops. ;)
LOL @ 24hrs of Lemons
I've put a tile up.
I've put another one next to it
And another one on top of those two...
Exhilerating.... ;)
She'll just know.
I don't know how they do it, but they do
oh.
That just delays the inevitable.
Just passing through before I hit the college work, thought you might like a nice BAR-Honda vid.
The main post is about IndyCar's test at the new Barber track (worth a look), but check out the very last video: Takuma Sato in a BAR on the Motegi oval! Watch it all the way through.
(FuriousWedge is one of my blog links, they cover all sorts of stuff)
Me. In Maybe. Nice try Gavin.
Don't you mean above? On top would give you 2 layers of tiles. I know that's wrong, you would end up with a smaller bathroom. She'd notice that too.
Does he have "singing" next to your name
He should!
You've tiled before then ;)
The only way I'm getting on is if I'm air guitaring at the start.
:D
:D
I was trying to be polite by not wiping out anyones name :-)
That would make for great radio - better than Steven Roy posting a YouTube link during the panel show ;-)
So, when are you singing YMCA for us?
Sometime before I die.
Promises, promises :D
Back in the dim and distant past of radio, there was a show called Educating Archie which starred a ventriloquist's dummy.
Remember how I fainted a couple of months ago? Well tomorrow is brain-scan day (just as a precaution). And no, I won't be live commenting it!
Eeeek!
Hope they find one ;)
Seriously though, hope all goes well
There's nothing to find up there - it's all hollow :-D
There is a case of someone who has a lot of space in their head where their brain should be. Before you all ask "is it Bernie?" the answer is no - this particular man shows no ill-effects and is perfectly normal.
SPC comes up third in an F1 search for podcasts in iTunes :D :D :D
who be 1&2?
Daddy?
Which is why I use it when demonstrating the iTunes Store :D
Cos Bernie keeps his money there and we all know "money talks"
Chequered Flag and some paper perhaps?
really?
Really. :)
The F1 Show & Telegraph F1
that is tooo cool :)
spc (hearts) andy.
who? and oh.
:(
Half right.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/o-rly-jpg
But you're listed under "Genre: Professional" instead of Sports and Recreation
You're ahead of F1 Rejects!
are the telegraph still doing a podcast? i thought the guy got promoted.
My thoughts exactly
Bet that changes after Sunday :D
f1 may be a shambles, but they do get paid for it.
I just tried to subscribe the other day and it showed a really old podcast that didn't work.
So probably not...
Dated 18th March 09
and they're still ahead? we got work to do!
ahh, fair enough.
They are behind them and in 4th on mine.
But it is a sport isn't it?
Wait, don't answer that!
Well, I do what I can to get the message out there. I may have mentioned that you use Macs to produce it too. Did I spot a reference to Logic the other day?
I tried to d/l that last night and it didn't work. Plus the title of the podcast is "2008 Spanish Grand Prix"...
professional is a subcategory underneath > sports and rec.
F1 Minute No.6
Who else has 2 in the Top 10?
[ok, apart from Renault?]
yup. we both have (paid for) copies of logic, although christine is not a fan.
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/orlyyarly-jpg
:D
Do not talk to me about Logic.
I'll not mention that bit then.
hehe. there's is multilingual.
hehhhehehe!!
FIVE PINTS!!!
Preview talks about Australia 09, must've fixed it
i love logic and think it's better than cubase :)
ahaha! :D
Puppy has gone. Sadly, owners turning up to take him away got him so excited he peed again. :(
Just in time for Heston's nutter meal.
:D :) :D
I do not know what Cubase is but it must be reeeeally bad.
Will try again then.
we make videos in final cut too, if that's helps sell anything?
This is not the 1st time a lady has refused to use logic
[Bassano ducks]
if you get it working, pls let us know what it's like.
Oooooooh
It is. Logic I am told is great, but I don't really use it much. I can do a lot more in Garageband. The best thing about Logic is that it is only £320 but you get more than £300 worth of samples.
:D
The name is wrong, but I have managed to d/l it and it is actually a 2009 podcast :-)
Express or Pro?
Living dangerously eh?
pro.
As used by Top 10 Podcasters and published photographers at SPC
actually. until that start of last season we used express. so the first 20 or so videos were done using that.
:D
Gosh.
yeah, it's v.expensive and we saved for a looong time to afford it.
fcp is the reason the macbookpro has melted.
Well I normally mention No Country For Old Men, the winner of the 2008 Best Picture Oscar, but will mention SPC now too :)
Express not enough for you then?
Applecare
actually, don't mention that bit ;)
Shhh! We've gone over that before, it's a bit of a painful subject.
It's a bit like F1 minute crossed with the Autosport podcast. Has potential. Didn't really say much though :-(
I know someone who had his old MBP sent for repair numerous times, In the end they gave him a shiney new Alu one. He was most pleased
check out the animated standings table at 00:40:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/10/30/inside-track-sao-paulo/
you can't do that in express.
I was given a new iPod mini under warranty (a good few years ago) as I munted the battery and they couldn't figure out the problem...
Sidepodcast is the first result for f1 in the Irish itunes podcast section.
hey, now that is cool.
F1 minute is fifth as well.
A bit NSFW, but it's nearly watershed time and this one is too funny not to share ;-)
I mean, who hasn't wanted to do this as a kid?
Radio5Live is if you search for Formula 1
Sidepodcast TV is 3rd
A year??
yeah saw that earlier, pure genius. that guy needs a drink buying for him!!
It's quite a tall roof. Perhaps the effect is like the Nazca lines - you can't see them until you are up in the air?
"They say he'll have to scrub it off when he gets back from travelling."
I'm saying, IF...
Intrestingly in the BBC voting period for classic Malaysian Grand Prix, they have missed out 2001.

When I was at school, one of the science labs had a whiteboard (these were a novelty back then). At the top of the board, in large permanent letters it said: "Please no water - Pens and Whiteboard rubber in top drawer of teacher's bench". One day I managed to add a letter i to this sentence. It was there for months.
Leigh MacKenzie in a wet t-shirt race day?
You messed up that name a bit didn't ya ;)
mmmmmmm.....
Nice!
Ehem, .. who added me as a maybe for this weekend's sidepodpanel?
Gavin, all Gavin's fault.
Was my singing that good?
you know because this is the internet, it's always mid-day somewhere, therefore there is no watershed... ever.
it was brilliant!
Is someone who bradcasts from Twitter, a Twit?
twitterer?
http://wm.streaming.shell.com/21538/ferrari-en/refuelling_ad_2251.wmv
This is an awesome video!! Ferrari refulled from a plane....not sure if its real though
But Steven told him to
Yay! :)
And therefore always happy hour too ;-)
Wasn't me. Only just catching up with the comments and Gavin said he modified that page. I assume he did it.
New rule: all podcasts should complete their ID3 tags
we do?
:D
Hi,
I have been following Sidepodcast for a while now and you are doing a great job.
Did anybody watch Heroes last night? I was quite surprised to hear "The Chain" during a scene.
Sadly, I think that's true
Sidepodtime watershed?
Yep. Others don't and that's annoying.
And add a logo pic. and Chapters too please (I'm looking at you, Midweek Motorsports!)
ahh. name and shame?
Actually I only listen to one other (MWM) so I shouldn't really complain.
TV .. what's that.. I thought it was only used to watch Formula One
MWM are chronically bad at updating their feeds - which is stupid when you ideally want to listen to the show BEFORE the weekend to preview the action. :-(
hey jkleopard. much thankyous :)
Whats an ID3 tag?
You what now? You Tube link please...
Welcome jkleopard :D
I think that was in Sylar's flashback.
Nice.
Tells your media player title, artist, etc of podcast, music
Couldn't be more fake.
My fault, trying to be polite by not wiping anyone's name off the list.
It's worth pointing out that you were a 'no' last week and still appeared, so don't take it as concrete, guys! :-D
at which point i should also mention to andy that we do podcast chapters in video:
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2008/05/05/video-podcast-chapters/
perfect for a quick in-store demo :)
thought as much
It gives Artist and Title information. Makes things appear in Last.fm.
My no means no.
Cheers Pat :)
Never watched that program. The Chain is a great tune and I am sure you will find it used for all sorts round the world but here it will only ever mean one thing.
No probs. It was designed for music because I don't think podcasts had been invented yet. It's how your Winamp or iTunes knows what things are.
I'm just kidding Gavin, it's actually flattering that someone wants me to do it again
So that is a definite maybe then.
I do, I do!
Please do - and that goes to all of Sundays Panellists!

Here's the Heroes episode on iPlayer
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00j8f3m/Heroes_Series_3_Exposed/
no idea.
You not take it then
[am guessing Christine didn't]
Jakki Degg. She had a stand at ASI near DC's stand and the radio controlled artist. She is tiny. Looks about 4 ft 6.
yes, but didn't ask her name.
Thought it was, though wasn't sure
Aye Caramba!
Her name was on her stand. About 4 feet above her head.
But who was looking up there? :D
even if i saw it, how the heck would i remember?
I know. All those racing cars to look at.
I did
you'd be good at the memory game on the kryton factor.
Is that on Red Dwarf?
I am not doing that assault course though.
:(
oh no you didn't!
That reminds me. New Red Dwarf at Easter.
not in those tracksuits.
Prediction: Really good, or really, really bad
After googling her - I am surprised why you didn't!
Jody Scheckter's farm on Heston
to be honest, and i don't wish to be mean, but her mum was omnipresent, and it was all a bit weird.
When is it on and what channel?
Dave or Bravo I think
Good night all ;-)
see ya.
G'night Gavin
Night Gavin.
I thought that was Rosa Klebb
BBC something
nighty night
Good night Gavin
ha!
Friday April 10, Sat 11 & Sun 12th on Dave
Night!
Sometimes, Google is NOT your friend ;)
See ya later Gavin
bless ya.
Rosa Klebb does not exist on Google?
Think Shir Sean Connery as James Bond and a Russian woman with a blade in her shoe.
She does, I just didn't wish to see that after Jakki Degg
Need to find KERS info to cleanse my mind
Thanks
I just had a look in on twitter. I decided to follow Matt Lucas and saw the following poem which made me laugh. "Mary had a little lamb, it ran into a pylon. 10,000 volts went up its @ss and turned its wool to nylon!"
:D
hahaha, saw that earlier, love it.
it still surprises me how popular twitter has gotten as a long time user of it. Just seems wierd now that is' quite mainstream.
Thanks. Noticed this in the post: "or iTouch as I prefer it" How times change :D
hmmmm.
Dave.
:D
There is a Christopher Walken profile on Twitter. Has some funny observational tidbits. http://twitter.com/cwalken
I was watching some TWIT re-runs earlier and they had people reading some of his tweets while doing impressions of him.
Heston Blumenthal - NUTTER! :D
And some terrible news - http://www.f1technical.net/news/11873
Not unexpected though, everything has to make cuts at the moment. Bit of a shame but it might be nice having a more down to earth version of the show for a while with a few mad bits happening less.
It was probs more tounge in cheek
Do you have a link?
I am not sure which show it was on. I was just watching the loop at http://leoville.com/
may we have a comment countdown please mr c?
I have got to make me some of these!
Then get my camera back and have some fun.
Then get arrested on suspicion of terrorist activity.
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/Dictionary
For anyone who hasnt seen it ^^ Sidepoddictionary, tis quite cool, just discovered it :D
Wouldn't be the first time...
Oh do tell us more :)
sorry, yes.

Thankinyou.
I'm wondering, is there a page on the Sidepodcast wiki that shows everyone's favourite driver/team? If there isn't, it'd be great to get one.
And this Brawn GP talk seems ridiculous, even though I'd love it if it was true.
14 years ago and a simple frozen orange launcher...
It was fun though - would go through 1/2" of plywood at around 100metres! :D
sounds like a great idea. fancy kicking it off?
:|
I'd be a bit slow with it. Someone else could have it done in 2 minutes, so if anyone feels like it, go right on ahead.
You could really have bits where people can mention about all the drivers and teams they follow/have followed, but the main point is to have everyone's number 1 driver and team known to all.
See, wasn't anything that interesting.
I sent a few of my recent comments to the Times. I will let you know if they get back to me.
good man!
What have they done?!
Aw damn, after looking on the wiki, I see that the Sidepodcast Regulars page is similar to my idea.
http://timesonline.typepad.com/formula_one/2009/03/join-the-formul.html
So are you going to create a page for yourself then. There is also the profile page for each person.
I saw, and no, I wasn't going to do a profile.
why not?
It's quite handy to set up a page in the SPC regulars section. What you will find is that evey so often you will want to add a couple of sentences on something that has been said. Once you get the basic page done its easy to tweak it. Most of the people who have beeninvolved in the wiki since the starts check the updates page and can track all the new stuff very easily.
You should start a page even if you don't put a lot on it.
what he said.
