Here we go then, the day is finally upon us and it is all about Sidepodradio. Doesn't matter if there is any F1 news going on, we've got a whole host of shows to keep you occupied. I imagine the majority of today's conversation will be in the upcoming threads, but for now, here's what we're talking about:

  • If you want to get yours ears wrapped around something before the mammoth 12 hours begins, we've posted an Interviews with Bloggers Sidepodchat special with Scott Woodwiss. Consider it a teaser for the upcoming show.
  • There are many questions floating about regarding replays of the Sidepodradio extravaganza and whether there will be podcasts of the event. The short answer is: we don't know. Nothing will be lost if we can possibly help it. There will be replays of the video, and we hope to extract as much as we can - but whether it will appear on podcast feeds or not is another matter. Bear with us, it will all become clear in time.
  • Don't forget, and you'll hear it a lot today, that we're doing this to raise money for charity. Plenty of kind people have already donated, and our production costs are pretty much covered. The excess will go to an as yet undecided charity, so if you're feeling generous, click the button on the right hand side of the homepage.

That'll do it for now. Hope to see you in the comments throughout the day, enjoy it all, whether you are a host or a listener, and we'll see you on the other side!

Allen belives he's being summoned to get more dirt on Flav. The stewards were happy that he didn't know anything.

He better be!! I really really hope, for the sake of the whole sport, nothing comes of this with regard to Alonso.

They should make a rule that all testimony to the WMSC will be given while hooked up to a lie detector.

SPCR ==> not the motto of the city of Rome (that would be SPQR ==> Sen?tus Populusque R?m?nus) but the call letters of a new radio station Sidepodcast Radio, which hopefully not join its comedic sister stations WKRP in Cincinnati or SCTV in Edmonton/Toronto.... :P

Drank lots of fluids before hitting the sack

  • Bassano Clapper19/09/2009 at 23:49

oh I've had some of those anyway :-)

Worst ones are two day hangovers [well. a day and a half]

Or those that persist even when you start drinking again. Ouch!

  • Alison19/09/2009 at 23:50

I always forget about how nasty a hangover is until it's too late.... Somehow that's never at the front of my mind as I'm drinking!

  • Bassano Clapper19/09/2009 at 23:52

I always forget about how nasty a hangover is until it's too late.... Somehow that's never at the front of my mind as I'm drinking!

I am trying to learn about hydration whilst on the booze. My friend does it and it really helps in the morning

    Normally, I'm all "pint please"

  • Bassano Clapper19/09/2009 at 23:52

    Alison

Do you have any preferences for Spa tickets?

    #Spa

  • Pat W19/09/2009 at 23:53

Drank lots of fluids before hitting the sack

    [sorry Amy]

That helps a lot. A pint of squash before bed, another nearby when you sleep, another in the morning.

Not sure why that's sorry Amy?

  • Bassano Clapper19/09/2009 at 23:54

That helps a lot. A pint of squash before bed, another nearby when you sleep, another in the morning.

I tried to stay up for the Lewis & Heikki appearance in London this afternoon

    I failed about 6am

I'm on earlies next week. Very rarely touch it then

    Firiday I'm off :D :) :D

Ahh ok. I've started buying 330ml bottles instead of 500ml cans, that's my effort at cutting back... one bottle of an evening after work..

  • Pat W19/09/2009 at 23:54

Worst ones are two day hangovers [well. a day and a half]

    Dunno if I've had one..

Or those that persist even when you start drinking again. Ouch!

I've done that! It doesn't help.

  • Bassano Clapper19/09/2009 at 23:55

Ahh ok. I've started buying 330ml bottles instead of 500ml cans, that's my effort at cutting back... one bottle of an evening after work..

I don't really get "one bottle"

    Would rather not

  • Pat W19/09/2009 at 23:55

I tried to stay up for the Lewis & Heikki appearance in London this afternoon

Ah well staying up is a whole other thing

  • Alison19/09/2009 at 23:55

Do you have any preferences for Spa tickets?

Really not particularly. I'm not fussed about whether it's covered or not even, I'm well used to the wet!

  • Bassano Clapper19/09/2009 at 23:55

Ahh ok. I've started buying 330ml bottles instead of 500ml cans, that's my effort at cutting back... one bottle of an evening after work..

And I rarely keep booze in the house

    It doesn't last

  • Pat W19/09/2009 at 23:56

I don't really get "one bottle"

Just enough to help relax, not enough to make you drowsy and sluggish in the morning.

  • Bassano Clapper19/09/2009 at 23:56

Really not particularly. I'm not fussed about whether it's covered or not even, I'm well used to the wet!

Grandstand tickets are 2 to 3x the price of general admission

Some folk want to do Grandstand at Eau Rouge

Others will be roaming and plonking down anywhere

  • Pat W19/09/2009 at 23:57

Hmmm I'd probably rather get proper seats for the race, I'm not fussed at other points in the weekend. I don't mind paying extra for a grandstand. Can you see a giant screen from there?

  • Pat W20/09/2009 at 00:00

I agree with Amy on this

Agreed. I have no idea if there will even be a Grand Prix there again afterwards, it is one of those perennially under threat.

  • Bassano Clapper20/09/2009 at 00:01

    Yup

If I was doing this (finances may come into the equation!), I'd want to be in view of the pit exit, though given the track layout I believe it would be possible to have the pit exit at one end of my vision and Eau Rouge at the other.

  • Bassano Clapper20/09/2009 at 00:02

Looks like it's reserved seating too

We may have to book in small chunks

Not that we'd be able to talk to anyone

  • Pat W20/09/2009 at 00:07

We may have to book in small chunks

Not that we'd be able to talk to anyone

We would in the hour pre-race, and when cars are on the other side of the circuit. I'd rather our lot sat as near to each other as possible.

  • Pat W20/09/2009 at 00:08

Amy came to the same conclusion I believe, and I agree

100% agreed. I don't care about a bit of flying water, I come from Britain FFS!

  • Bassano Clapper20/09/2009 at 00:09

"Yes, in the tribunes (Gold and Silver tickets)."

We'll miss your brownies though LPG ;)

  • Alison20/09/2009 at 00:15

    Let's say, not before Wednesday.

    How's that?

Okay so if I check Jack will come with me, I'll happily get my own tickets. I don't want to sit by myself if he won't commit to coming though!

  • Pat W20/09/2009 at 00:18

On the pages I linked it says

"When you order, you can indicate the block you prefer in the grandstand. We will comply in so far as possible, in accordance with the number of seats available and in order of the date of payment."

and it provides blocks A-F in the diagram. I think all those who want to sit together should book near the same time and specify the same letter. F1 fans are a friendly bunch, if we are positions a little way apart we may be able to negotiate a swap..

Where are you trying to find the tickets to Montreal, Joe. I think the old promoter gave up ands went out of business - hence the whole thing disappeared last year...

  • Pat W20/09/2009 at 00:26

Mobility should be for disabled access

I'm not sure that's true because I saw a separate section for disabled people, there is a car park right behind one of the stands and they have a platform in front of Silver 2 which I think is opposite the GP2 pit.

  • Alison20/09/2009 at 00:26

I think we need to find out where other people who aren't here want to sit. Even if they want a different stand it would be cool to be in a nearby one.

    Amy's coming from Australia

If I recall, she wanted us to camp

  • Alison20/09/2009 at 00:32

There is some appeal to me of being near the chicane! I like chicanes.... Would I be able to wander round and watch practice near there?

Good question. At Indy, Fri and Sat is all general admission and you ticket seats only applied on Sunday. I like to walk around and get different views,

Where are you trying to find the tickets to Montreal, Joe. I think the old promoter gave up ands went out of business – hence the whole thing disappeared last year…

When I do buy, there’ll be a website and I’ll buy from there, I think CanadianGP.com. Still plenty of time

If I go this year, I would love to be in one of the Silver Grandstands on either side of the Casino Hairpin. Have you ever been there or Silver Grandstand section 12, on the right hand side so there's a clear line of sight down the pit lane... (Or so it looks like, I think you are clear of the tree there.)

I only have been to the Silver Grandstands 15 (Bottom of the hairpin) and Silver 11 (Pit lane exit) Section 11 was not as great as I thought it would be. (VIP tents block line of site into pit lane)

  • littlepurplegoth20/09/2009 at 00:35

Nope, pretty sure she's dead set against it...

Mind you, camping is vaguely sensibly priced...

I plan to use Friday to explore. I expect we'll be more split up that day than any other.

2007 in front of Kimi's garage area. 2008 Pit exit with pit lane blocked by VIP tents. 2010 will be in the hairpin area or one of the chicanes leading up to it. It's a shorter walk to the Budweiser Beergarden

    Mobility Solution

The "Mobility Solution" is a package who will give you access to the circuit on the Sunday 30th of August 2009 to see the ING Belgian Grand Prix without parking, stress of the travel and trafic problem.

So basically we get free travel from/to any of the places listed as long as we leave by 5pm. By the rules of Sidepodtime I declare this option void :-)

  • Joe in Fla20/09/2009 at 00:46

Okay, I don't want to shock anyone, but I drink beer. And I want to be driven to the track and back, hence to problems with cops or me having to drive a rented car with one eye close. So if there is mass transit, then we are good to go.

45min is a fair way. On the other hand, the facilties of being in a town with a choice of restaurants probably outweigh that.

Solves the drink/driving problem, and gives you a chance of running in to race teams on an "all nighter"

  • Journeyer20/09/2009 at 03:19

Morning, everyone. Just read Joe's blog entry about PK Sr. possibly having warned Charlie Whiting on Crashgate as early as Brazil last year. I commented, but in case it doesn't get published there, I'll leave it here too.

Something doesn’t make sense here. If Piquet Sr told Whiting as early as last year, I think from a cynically political POV that there were more reasons for the FIA to act on it rather than ignore it.

    1. Avoid a bigger scandal by waiting longer (obviously)

    2. Possibly get Alonso out of his Renault contract en route to Ferrari (makes FOM happy)

    3. Possibly get the Singapore results annulled, deducting 6 pts. from Hamilton and allowing them to declare Massa champion (makes FIArrari happy, if that perception is true)

Why wait until the results can’t be changed anymore? Surely the evidence available now was also available back then?

  • Paul20/09/2009 at 03:37

Why wait until the results can’t be changed anymore? Surely the evidence available now was also available back then?

    Hi Journeyer.

It didn't really make sense to me either. I must say my respect for Charlie Whiting has gone down a notch. The only reason I cxan see for it is that Piquet Jr was not prepared to make a statement. That family has not exactly come out of this mess cleanly either. But then, why did Snt say anything at all? Seeding some doubt maybe?

The Massa thing is strange too. Given that the FIA seemed to give him a few favorable rulings throughout the year, this would have been the perfect way to hand the championship to him, as you have said.

  • F1Wolf20/09/2009 at 03:49

looks like I made it back from behind the great firewall of China just in time for some show :-)

  • Aitch20/09/2009 at 04:33

I got my two games of hockey in and now I better shut everything down and get some sleep so I don't miss any of the event of the year. See you all in 6 hours and 27 minutes

  • Journeyer20/09/2009 at 05:47

The Massa thing is strange too. Given that the FIA seemed to give him a few favorable rulings throughout the year, this would have been the perfect way to hand the championship to him, as you have said.

The only reasonable argument I can think of is that the FIA didn't want the title decided in a boardroom - they weren't prepared to cross that line. That said, I'm unconvinced.

  • Stuart C20/09/2009 at 06:18

    Morning all,

Saved by the bell! Was supposed to be meeting up and leaving en masse for the track at 7.10. Woke up desperate for the loo, and during the course of attending to that business I remembered that although I'd set the time on the alarm, I hadn't actually switched it on. Checked the time: 6.50. Never before have I had cause to give thanks to the final pint of the evening.

Surely the evidence available now was also available back then?

The most plausible explanation is the official line that it required a proper sworn statement from one of the protagonists (ie NP), and that wasn't forthcoming at the time.

  • Journeyer20/09/2009 at 06:20

:D Well done! What track are you at - Portimao?

Ahhh. In other words, he wasn't ready to put his neck on the line just yet. Yet he does it now, when he has nothing to lose...

  • Stuart C20/09/2009 at 06:24

    Portimao?

Barcelona, helping out on the media side with a one-make Lambo series. We are very much shoehorned into the track schedule: our second race of the weekend is in 15 minutes and the third is at 4.50.

I don't think everyone is hailing Lewis as you say. And being asked to increase the risk of injury/death of Drivers/Stewards/Spectators is a whole lot worse than being asked to say something different to stewards about an incident following a safety car. Both are bad though.

    'Fo Shizzle?

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)20/09/2009 at 10:41

    For sure?

    'Fo Shizzle?

When does a racing driver say "shizzle" in an interview?

  • fourstar20/09/2009 at 10:44

    By the rivers of Lewisham?

    Insane, like, izzit.

  • Adie20/09/2009 at 10:44

When does a racing driver say "shizzle" in an interview?

    If they're feeling 'street'

    Obviously! :)

  • Gavin Brown (RubberGoat)20/09/2009 at 10:46

Hehe. I wonder if radio stations have this sort of anticipation :D

Before the launch of a new radio station they do!

    D'oh! Just thinking that!

  • jackie/saltire20/09/2009 at 10:47

When does a racing driver say "shizzle" in an interview?

    If they're feeling 'street'

Does that mean we have to expect Kimi to be the first since he's all huge cap streetwise? That conjurs up a mental picture I'm not liking
