Welcome to Sunday. We are halfway through the weekend, and so far I've had a good one, have you? The World Cup is still going strong, but we are not all about football here at Sidepodcast. In fact, we shouldn't really be about football at all, so here are some of the other things that we're talking about:
- Let's start with the most important thing - Mr C has been talking to Joe once again and they've come up with a fabulous podcast covering many, many topics. My favourite bit is about the driver at Renault. Good times!
- Chandhok has gone and got himself a regular column on Reuters. As if we didn't love the chap enough as it is, he's written a round up of all the action from Canada from his point of view, plus given us the chance to comment on it. Lovely stuff. At the time of writing, there was only one comment though. I'm sure we can do better than that.
- It is Superleague Formula day today, and I've noted that Franck Montagny qualified 12th. At least I think he did. It's hard to find the information on the official site and nowhere else seems to have it. So, our man is 12th, which is behind Bourdais. Boo! It will all be live streamed on the site, so if you're around and fancy watching a crazy motorsport race that doesn't make much sense, I highly recommend it.
- In non-sporting news, yesterday's Doctor Who was quite an epic first part of a double episode series finale. I'll do no spoilers here, of course, but I have written my thoughts on the episode here, whilst Lukeh has got an excellent summary on his Doctor-dedicated blog here. Make sure you read them both and let us know what you thought of the episode (if you're a fan, that is!)
That should do it for now. Let us know how you're spending this fine Sunday, either outside if the weather is good, or tucked up indoors if it is not. Or maybe tucked up indoors even if the weather is good. There's no shame in that. Let us know, and I will see you in the comments.
hello replacement lou's daily.
i see williams were straight-line testing at kemble again yesterday: http://tweetphoto.com/28033674
loving the retro livery :)
Oooh yay for that livery! Love it!!
Bourdais outqualified franck? booo. I was not saying boo-urns, I was saying Boo-urdais.
Says it's an air show so I'm guessing it is a static display rather than testing. The photo before it is Rosberg Sr's car.
:)
Hurry up rubbish itunes updater. I want to listen to my music again now please.
Evening
That was my last Saturday late shift for a [hopefully long] while
I despise the windows itunes updates. It's basically a popup box that works like this
Oh hello, I see you want to update itunes, that's great and all but here, have Safari, something else, and this and that and.. oh, you just want iTunes? Fine, I'll go MEGA SLOWLY THEN.
Evening :)
eVENING
Caps lock fail :)
Hello
What time do I need to write the WC Post by, Mr. C?
I have the longest 10 days I've ever worked coming up. I'm going to need a holiday by the time I get to go away!!
mine goes something like,
"Ah so you want to update iTunes?"
Me: "Yes please, you keep annoying me with your pop up boxes"
"Ah yes we do that, but it's quick and easy so you may aswell"
Me: "Ah well ok then"
"Installs quite slowly.....TA DA!!! oh wait i've deleted your entire collection of music"
Me: "You've done what?!?"
"Ah yes, sorry about that. I'm not going to tell you that it's already saved as a library and wait for you to discover that yourself *sniggers*"
hmpf
Hello all
you should just keep bugging someone at work to give you holiday hours until they just give in and decide you need one to get you off their back :)
before the first game, i would guess. whenever it suits tbh.
It quite often deletes all my podcast settings when it updates which is much more annoying than it sounds.
No probs ;)
I'm flying out to Dubai on the 30th but they must be angry about it or something because I have to do 9 double shifts between now and then....
I'm guessing that's not a post about the facilities ;)
Time for sleep im thinking, night guys.
Hi Joe, night Lukeh
That would make one heck of a weird guest post!
Hey looks like I'll have to get my PS3 in working order soon
I always blame Windows because I never have problems updating iTunes on my mac :P
Seriously though, it's sounds like the guys at Apple responsible for iTunes on Windows need to do better. It's a difficult job, but others seem to do it better
hello everybody...
Watching Jonathan Ross repeat. Wow, Glee really winds me up
Hi Guille, hi Joe
I remember how slow iTunes when I was using Windows. I bet it puts a lot of people off Macs
i just posted a comment on james allen's blog for the first time in over a year. the message received read "you're posting comments too fast, slow down".
holy cow :)
Exactly why it needs to be better. Although some people would argue that it actually encourages people to buy a Mac. Halo effect FTW!
I think he needs a new admin guy.
For some time now
All I want is a computer that works. I don't do anything fancy with it but for some reason no-one is able to provide me with one.
Au Contraire Mon Cheri :P
Get A Mac!
that isn't true. imac is the simplest computer in the world.
*cough* iPad!
;)
what do you want to do with it?
No bias here :)
Get Linux!
(I can't get quiet :P )
everything we just said is true. that isn't bias, just fact.
Go on the internet, do some basic word processing, bit of spreadsheeting, watch iplayer and listen to my podcasts. I really don't need fancy functions but every computer I've ever owned ends up slowing down to the point you want to smash it against a wall.
Way out of my price range I'm afraid :( I could just rob Nick's ipad and call it my birthday present.
I have a bad relationship with iTunes, I don't want that a program decides what to do with my music library. I just want a program to reproduce music, and organize it (but I want to organize it). Besides, it doesn't recognize half of the formats I have my music in...
In my job, I hear that 100+ times a day. It makes me wonder what takes people so long to work out that there is a solution
ah-ha. in that case, i've corrected your original comment:
"All I want is a computer that works, for a price I am willing to pay. I don't do anything fancy with it but for some reason no-one is able to provide me with one."
;)
I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for irrelevant functionality to be stripped out in return for a reasonable price. I don't want most of the stuff so I don't want to pay for it.
Just so you know, iTunes doesn't have to organize your folders of music for you. I forget where the option is to turn that off though :)
If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.
I used to loathe that part of working in an appliance store - people expect the cheap stuff to be as good a quality as the expensive stuff and then shout at you when it isn't...
then I seriously think you should give linux a try (recommendation: Ubuntu). You don't seem to do anything particularly problematic for linux, so you'll be ok with it. It's cheap (free, and runs on any computer), and normally doesn't have the growing syndrome of windows
True
The iPad does all of those things but it's really not a primary device.
Still, if you have an old 'puter you can use to back it up and for the occasional update...
so now you want a custom machine that fits your needs exactly? shouldn't that cost more, rather than less?
in windows world, the c**p you don't want actually subsidises the low price you are happy to pay. that's how it works isn't it?
But it's the Windows way :(
In my head I'm actually subsidising r&d on things other people want?
yes, I know. I'm just ranting about my first experience with it :P
Can't afford to... Or can't afford NOT to?
Heart attacks are expensive you know :P
The main reason I switched is because Microsoft stressed me out so much
if you want free, guille is right. linux costs you nothing.
Exactly!
Please do this Alison. It would be awesome to learn from your experience
Are you sure it would work properly? When I was in Nick's house I saw what he'd managed to do to his computer. There are actually lines that move constantly over the whole monitor so forgive me for being a little wary :P
no. i never said it would did i? i simply pointed out it costs nothing.
It might. Just like windows
what do you reckon. 50/50?
I didn't say I wanted anything for free? I'm happy to pay for a functional computer. I'm sorry that I don't happen to have thousands of pounds lying around to pay for one though. I think it's shocking that this computer which is now just over a year old is starting to break down. I don't think that's a reasonable working life for electronic equipment.
It will work - I got it working on my Asus Aspire One OK, and I am about to convert the Eeee PC to Ubuntu Netbook remix...
What brand is it?
I won't even hazard a guess - too many variables. Apple doesn't care what colour the moon is
Do you know anyone computer savvy enough to do a fresh install for you?
For the things you described, yes. Things get a little bit messy when you try to do some other things, but basic home-office computing is pretty solid. But try it: download a 'Live CD' from Ubuntu's page, boot the computer with it and check it working in real life. If you don't want what you see or how it works, you just don't install it.
It's a Samsung
Irrelevant unless you are talking hardware failures?
My housemate last year had a macbook and she had it in the shop 3 times the year we lived together. I will let apple off for the time she set it on fire though. Maybe that wasn't their fault.
neither do i. which i why i haven't bought a pc for three years. that's how one addresses such a problem isn't it? "i won't put up with this, i'll take my business elsewhere."
with computers, the consumer has the ultimate choice, from free & difficult to expensive & easy. you pays your money, you make your choice.
Some are better than others...
:)
I have to ask HOW????
Clearly witchcraft :P (Steve keeps referring to magic for some reason)
Yes, well, THAT is the example I didn't want to bring up... hardware support on netbooks can be a little bit problematic some times :P
nothing that a bit of on-line research and configuration touching can't solve. but I don't think alison would want to...
*lobs grenade, runs*
Tealights on our livingroom table. She had the lid open and the slant meant it was over the top of the candle. Burned a hole right through the screen :D
How much could you realistically buy a white MacBook for?
We still have some of the superseded ones for the equivalent of £600
nice...
I saw that today. Quite funny :)
Well it worked before... some Linux versions just don't like wifi cards though ;)
The brand affects how well windows performs? Is that a driver related thing?
:D
Not saying that. I just reckon some of the cheaper PC brands have components that just fatigue and wear out quicker - bad sectors and failing RAM, etc...
Cheapest on the refurb store at the moment is £679
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/FC207B/A?mco=MTU5MjkwMjk
It's pretty much how we all reacted when we saw the iPad - duckface and starry eyes...
you should re-install windows every one year, that's my experience. It just grows, and grows, and...
not related to drivers, but to bad registry/programs/file management. at least that's for XP, I haven't used a windows machine as my primary computer since Vista came out.
Come to Australia for a holiday? :P :P :P
Did you guys see this Dilbert? http://dilbert.com/strips/comic/2010-06-18/
Please don't
There is some truth in it but what no one hears is how good the resale value will be in 2 years.
My iMac could probaly sell for over 50% of it's original price
:D
Really really not tempted :D
Does running bootcamp on your mac hamper its performance in the same way as the windows machine in the first place?
it works. I have my eepc 1005 with Ubuntu on it. I just had to touch some things to make the mic work properly, but that's it
Awesome!
the advantage is, bootcamp requires a "clean" install of windows. so you don't get the cack pc world pre-load for you.
Windows is the problem, brand of hardware is much much less relevant to your problems
you lose nothing by trying, just the time to download it ;-)
I see. I'm starting to do OU study and their resources won't work without bootcamp. I guess my hunk of junk will just have to live another day....
Ooooh Guille. I have a project for you for Spa *grins*
You'd probably find if you ran Office for Mac you'd just stop booting into Windows too
although you do have to buy that clean install of windows and because it doesn't come with subsidised cack... well, you get the point :)
Yeah Ubuntu Netbook Remix was the best one for the eeeeeeeeeePC...
that's a big OU fail.
Well you could always switch to a Mac, format the PC and only use it for course work - you might find that with less usage it may run better...
Sometimes you can get away with being naughty and use the windows serial from a retired windows machine
Yeah I checked. I knew I wasn't imagining it
"You will need internet access and a computer. If you have purchased a new Windows computer since 2002 it should meet your course computing requirements. Check our Technical Requirements section if your computer is older than this or is otherwise unusual. Please note that you cannot use an Apple Mac or Linux computer unless it is running windows Boot Camp or similar dual-boot system."
Your OU course is less than a year, yes?
You could reformat the windows partition when you are done :)
in that case the apple route is going to be very expensive. can i recommend a pillow for your desk instead?
I'd investigate a clean install of your current 'puter with none of the bloatware
Yet another example of someone getting paid when they really don't know what they are talking about
Night guys :)
I guess I can't hide inside the other mobile home the whole weekend ;-)
Night Gavin
night
Hehehe I'm sorry there's no sale today :P
I'm not really sure how long I'll be doing it. It suits me because I can still work. I'm investigating setting some of it against a year elsewhere and I'm not really sure what the plan is at the moment.
what does it need? a program provided by them?
I really don't know. Possibly it's to do with their electronic submission software. I know when I was at uni, people had a lot of problems using that and had to go use university pcs to submit a lot of work.
I think Nick needs to buy a MacBook and 'loan' it to you
That's odd
He's much more likely to listen to you :P
now he has an ipad, you need ipad2 to come out and inherit his.
The one with the camera? :P
If it's just occasional, just to upload something, then probably a dual-boot is good solution. you don't need to live on windows the whole day, just boot from time to time and get back to apple or linux.
I would recommend you a virtual machine (that's what I do with the two programs I need that only run on windows), but I don't know if you would want to go trough it
the one with a better screen!
Crossover by codeweavers.com is another option
yes. but if the program is not mainstream the chances of it working flawlessly aren't very good
Maybe I do have software. I don't start until I get back from Dubai. Perhaps they're just saying you need windows for no reason but I think that would be strange.
Look into it
It could be just ignorance on their part
Find out the system requirements
Well that's what they cite as system requirements. Windows or bootcamp.
It wouldn't be too strange if they have an electronic submission program that run only on windows. Not the smartest thing to do, but I have seen it, sadly.
This bit:
Check our Technical Requirements section if your computer is older than this or is otherwise unusual
Not that I disbelieve it, but it's an odd thing to do
Alienating an increasingly larger share of potential students
Why do I hear Tom Jones singing "it's not unusual to use Mac anymore..." :)
They obviously have an attitude problem.... The first sentence of the relevant section starts "Of the few students who use a Mac"
From what I can see, there's nothing a mac would struggle with unless they send you software.
It was probably written in 2003 :)
Interesting film on BBC2 for football fans. Its from 4 or 5 years ago. 17 cameras followed Zidane for a whole match so they show the whole game from his perspective.
It says you can submit work as long as you have "open office" is that a commonly owned programme?
they probably can't afford to train technical support people to help mac users. i bet you don't need anything more complicated than word. they just aren't interested in helping you if you struggle.
It's a freebie
Can I have that for F1 please
I found this society :P
http://macgeneral.webhop.org/
iplayer: BBC Two is currently off air.
odd.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenOffice.org
Not just Bernie who pulls progs then.
Bet it's on http://www.tvcatchup.com/
CatchupTV.com?
That's the one! :)
i think all of iplayer has gone down.
So close
I used to use that, it's fine
ah no. just the beta site.
Is that the html5 one?
no idea. i had it enabled for some reason. very broken now.
Very very awesome!
free to download, it's the open source alternative to MS office
Hehehe I will think about buying myself a mac for Christmas. The only question would be do you think they'd give you HE discount on a refurb?
Not sure if they do but the discount is probably close to refurb prices anyway
They don't in Australia.
If you're coming to visit, I will use my staff discount for you
am loving this.
I think it's 10-20% depending on what it is.
The back to school offer will be over by September.
Gets you a free iPod Touch [which you can sell]
Oddly I am not really. I think they hired a few out of season F1 TV directors
that's what i like about it, i think. is it filmed at the bernabeu?
If you do decide to buy, you can be assured that we will do everything we can to make sure you get the best possible price available
How do you know about the Bernabeu? Yes. Says its 2005 against Villareal. Zidane looks kinda heavy for 2005
I had better take advantage of this winter sunshine while it lasts. Later y'all :)
Bye Jeremy :)
Bye Jeremy
i went there once, a spanish friend insisted i see them play (against real betis?). i thought i recognised the tv screens.
See ya
Awesome. It's one of the million things on my to do list. Real Betis is a real team.
Tech spotter! :)
He is French, playing in Spain speaking English?
i think i didn't appreciate it anywhere near enough at the time. i should return with new found football knowledge.
bye jeremy
I am sure Chrisitine will fill in any blanks in your knowledge.
i know. the cameraman ran up the steps and i sort of thought i'd been there.
:)
that was fab steven. cheers.
Thatis only half time. Football has two halves. Christine will explain
:)
:)
Time for some mindless TV before sleep
Night folks
Good night
NASA aerodynamicists are not impressed with the new ball either. Apparently the complaints by the players stand up to analysis
http://www.nasa.gov/topics/nasalife/features/soccer_ball.html
night bassano
yikes. how did adidas test it then?
Beats me. Of course it may be in their interest to have a ball everyone complains about. If the ball was good no-one would mention it and if the view expressed is that this one is nowhere near as good as their normal balls people will buy their normal balls rather than anyone else's because they are so much better according to the experts. Of course I may just be cynical but this has been happening for many years
ah-ha.
Was that a thermocam of Zidane?
eh? i thought you were joking about half time. my video went to ceefax.
No. They are showing the full game. They went off at half time then re-started almost immediately
I have to say I am enjoying it more now that I realise what it is. I was expecting something looking at it techncally/tactically rather than as an arty thing
ahh, i must've been watching out of sync to you then.
It was either thermocam or a weird blurry off colour thing
it was definitely arty. the music choice was fitting, and i'm amazed the microphones could pick out what he was saying. i could've watched it all night.
TVcatchup says BBC2 is offline so they blocked it as well. Damned unsporting of them
Sports mics are awesome. You need to try to see the film the NFL release of the superbowl each season. Utterly mndblowing. You can hear completely clearly all the discussion on the pitch and the quarterbacks calling the plays. Not just on the recent ones but on some going back 30 years or more
The Zidane thing is all over youtube
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Zidane:+A+21st+Century+Portrait&aq=f
I'm going to get my dinner while watching Truth in 24. Have a nice night!
i really must watch that.
Enjoy it. I saw it a couple of nightsago. It's really good.
yesterday I saw the first 10 min and decided that it needed my full attention, so tonight is the movie of the night :P
I really enjoyed it. Being a McNish fan helped of course since he hogs it a bit. It was really interesting when you got the occasional snippet of how the team worked, It's interesting the similarity between the drivers and the early astronauts. The fact that one guy may be in the car alone but one of his co-drivers is pushing the engineers to give him the right info etc. There are little bits that come straight out of The Right Stuff
?
The Right Stuff is about the original 7 Mercury astronauts. They spend a lot of time fighting with the engineers and flight controllers to make sure the astronaut on board gets the best treatment, information etc because they know that one day they will be the spam in the can and the other astronauts will be the only people fighting their corner.
It was quite interesting how similar it was with TK in the car and McNish bugging the engineer to make the best decisions
ahh, ok. will watch this week then.
hola
hola amy.
ooh i wasn't actually expecting a response at 4.20am :D
*waves*
Good morning peoples.
Morning.
Just going to start writing the World Cup POst...
Yay :)
Mind if I write a little on my experiences watching the Danish game yesterday?
You can write anything that grabs you. As long as it has the key information of what games are on today and at what time, the rest is up to you :)
Excellent!
Don't forget to write the bit about how New Zealand are going to beat Italy ;)
:D :D :D
Got some real kiwis coming round for my BBQ today. Where are you Amy?
I could leave now, I don't think I'd make it in time.
:(
Got all my NZ shirts out - all black ones of course. And my McLaren shirt ;)
I bought an All Blacks shirt the other day but it's not here yet. I shall be knitting the scarf as I watch though :D
I am wearing the 'proper' one right now ... and Mrs. Goat is wearing an actual players shirt from the NZ Kingz :D
I would say you have her well trained but I saw the photos of you in the Danish shirt so it must go both ways :)
;)
so, second attempt today. could do with a win this time ...
Can I have a quick comment from you for my World Cup Post on Slovakia today? I didn't want to come off all Match of The Day and quote Wikipedia or something ;)
How do I link to a twitvid in the WOrld Cup post?
Just like any other link?
PING: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/06/20/2010-fifa-world-cup-day-10/
Given a motorsport connection don't forget the MotoGP guys...
Plus there's WTCC and Formula Renault going on too...
And Superleague.
Hi Christine...
I was just thinking that Superleague got a big mention in the daily hence my call about the other stuff...
But Good Luck to Franck...
I was expecting someone to chime in about Indy and NASCAR too...
People were talking about that last night, I think. Lots going on this weekend.
PS Where do you get Superleague coverage?...
Eurosport has WTCC as well as MotoGP and the Beeb also has MotoGP....
http://superleague.triple-it.nl/
And I'm missing all of it. :(
Off out to golf in 20 mins.
ESPN or the website
Karun Chandhok is commentating on Moto2 on Eurosport just now...
Wow...
He's very lucid and informative...
I am wearing a towel as a blanket. Things are getting desperate :D
Morning guys *tunes in to Franck F1*
Yay Bruce!!!
French Bruce :)
They are comparing driving an F1 car round the various Silverstone corners to riding a bike....
Franck is second!! I don't understand how. I thought he started 12th.
Karun is just leaving the commentary box...
Watch out for him on the grid...
This is exciting, great time to tune in!
They are quoting Karun's twitter feed... apparently he took some pics in the commentary box...
They also describe him as "A very human Formula 1 driver".... Bless....
Franck leads :)
Second again. I'll take second though :)
Bourdais saying Maria lady does stupid things. Booo Bordy.
Bourdais still moaning, nothing news there
Although it was stupid. Shh.
*new, even
♥ the commentators.
"Franck is vastly experienced, doesn't matter what series, he's quick at everything."
so basically, he is awesome?
He's not far behind Roma now!
YAY!
Yay Franck!!
"Take on Franck Montagny at your peril."
:)
If he keeps this up, he might get into that weirdo Superfinal thingamy.
YES!!!!
Well done Franck!!
Craig Dolby sounded like he had a mad race!
Oops, Franck had a blowtorch parking moment :)
He's still a bit grumpy though.
Franck ping: http://iheartfranck.com/2010/06/20/superleage-round-4-jarama-race-2-report/
Mr Brundle on the back of a two seater MotoGP bike...
His comments basically were..."Wow that's quick... That's quick...That's quick"...
You get the idea....
Berthon leading Ricciardo.... Renault at Magny Cours...
They say Ricciardo has done an amazing drive but he started from pole so I guess he had a problem somewhere...
Now we have Formula 2 starting at the same time as the MotoGP!....
Motogp at the new silverstone. It seems to big for the bikes, they are getting lost ina all that space
It's no different to most of the tracks they go to...
The Moto2 race was good...
The fact that Dani lost it yesterday and the practice this morning means that he's rather tentative...
That new section is excellent for them but it's making me think that
I missed the moto2. I hope the new section does not spoil f1
I have to say that I am a tad worried that they'll be even less overtaking opportunities... unless it rains!....
on F2 at the minute - attrition city here
And it's done - I must be honest, Jolyon Palmer is hardly a driver that will set the world alight at all, but young Palmer is way ahead in the F2 Championship
Jorge is running away with the MotoGP.... and therefore the championship...
Not looking good for an exciting year... they'll be no last race win this year...
yep
New Arena area seeing lots of passing... so it's working for MotoGP....
let's hope it transfers to F1
Stoner come from way back after an atrocious start to get to 5th and onto the back of the Hayden/Spiess fight for 3rd....
That section won't... in my opinion...
It's too fiddly...
Wow...
Huge pass by Spiess...
And he takes 3rd...
His first podium...
Just spotted a Chandhok tweet from Karun... he met Joey (Matt Le Blanc) and Mark Webber on the grid...
Weirdly Lorenzo picks "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" to play out the MotoGP coverage....
In a bit of non-motoring news:
Blast from the past in WTCC...
The guy who came 3rd in the US GP in 2005 is third in the WTCC at Zolder...
Another blast from the past...
Mario Theissen is at Zolder looking after the BMWs...
TIAGOOOOO!!
Good call...
Priaulx is leading from Huff....
Wimbledon Day 1 OoP is out
http://2010.wimbledon.org/en_GB/scores/schedule/index.html
doesn't monteiro own a gp2 team now as well?
Ocean Racing running Max Chilton this year I think...
Are you volunteering to write us a thread? :)
I think ORT ran a certain Mr Chandhok last year?....
has she scheduled a slot?
does it need one? :D
Well, even if it's only for me, you and Lou, I think we deserve one!
Who knows? I may even read it!!
ooooh. I'll see what I can rustle up at work tomorrow. My best live commenting threads happen from there.
9-5 that exciting??
tis 7.30-3.30 this week. I need something to keep me awake after 4 hours sleep!
Yay!
Double yay!
i know that feeling
:)
I may have to ask nicely for you to source me some appropriate Wimbledonny pictures because I really don't know how :D
No problemo.
Surely, this is all you need
http://www.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q=pete%20sampras&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi
here is a picture of roger supporting the swiss football team in four languages :D

or maybe hes supporting himself...
I would write Wimbledon threads if wanted, although my knowledge of tennis is restricted to, well, wimbledon :)
sampras, nooooooo
I have already found you a picture. Get writing :)
Yes please. Knowledge is not a requirement. See: my football threads.
:)
I shall do it tomorrrrrow. although, tomorrow is 13 minutes away.
I wonder if Mr C knows what font Wimbledon uses.
!!
*goes to look*

Sometimes I think she's doing it on purpose :)
Bonzer!
I thought 10 weeks was a nice round number to start counting down from and its now 7 days later. But using the same counting system every week is boring :D At least I am not doing a Lou like countdown of the off-season :D
amy - Renaud de Laborderie
champion! That will look much better in the transcript than INSERT VERY FRENCH NAME HERE which is what it currently says.
hehe
Amazing battle for 1st and 2nd in the 125s...
Afternoon all BTW!

Amazing save not to go down and Espargaro kept it upright enough to still get 2nd...
Bradley 3rd....
Between that and the NZ goal, I didn't know where to look!
Hello, folks.
good afternoon
The final few laps in the 125s reminded me of the MotoGP race at Catalunya last year...
Afternoon everyone :)
Hello Giggles.
Preparing the radio show and I have two problems:
1) The laptop is installing some new operating system updates
and
2) There is a really loud fly buzzing about the place
buenas tardes.
you should turn the football down.
:)
isn't it buenOs tardes, since Giggles is a guy? :)
Spoil sport :P
afternoon is feminine. Only dias gets a buenos.
:D
#grammarpoliceenespanol :D
What are you trying to say ;)
ohhh. i thought the gender of the buenos was dependent on who you were greeting? :)
hehe
Ah yes this sounds right. That's how it'd work in Italian at any rate.
nein. although if i was pleased to meet him I'd say encantado not encantada :D
(Can you tell the only Spanish lessons I remember were the ones about greetings?)
Right folks, I'm off.
I must head to the airport now. Sadly I will also miss the IRL race this evening, but shall endeavour to return once back in my London abode
:)
So kill the fly and speed up the laptop...
Or is it the other way round?...
Fly has gone! Woohoo!
BTCC on ITV4 now...
another crazy weekend for sport!
you killed jeff goldblum?
;)
Ping: http://sidepodcast.com/2010/06/20/live-giggles-radio-r/
yay!
wow I will actually be awake for some of it!
It finished... Rebooted and then... Wanted to install some more things!
We're back in the room! Phew!
It says you can submit work as long as you have "open office" is that a commonly owned programme?
http://sidepodcast.com/2010/06/20/daily-20th-june-2010/comments/#comment-816533 {Comment #144}
Yes. It's open source and free, I prefer it over Microsoft Office and it works on many different systems. You could write your coursework in Linux and then set up your dual-boot system such that you only needed the Windows bit to submit the finished article. I don't have Boot Camp but I used to dual-boot my PC and my Windows XP could read, copy from and paste to the drive with Windows 98 on it just fine.
working on updates to the sidepodcast tv page this afternoon: http://twitpic.com/1ygyzc
Nicholas you still around?
Karun Chandock's tweeting loads today. Love this one ;) http://twitter.com/karunchandhok/status/16624880175
The whole internet has been hacked. Every site I have looked at says NZ drew with Italy
its hard to be awesome, but someone has to do it.

And they're also saying France missed a training session. What kind of craziness is this?!?
Just read that. Looks like France have taken up the Dutch tradition of pressing the self destruct button in the middle of a tournament.
Having finally finished analysing the FOTA survey results, I've now returned to doing the long-term project of explaining the FIA rulebook with Article 1:

I didn't know the Dutch were in the habit of doing that, but there must be some serious mismanagement going on in the French camp if even I, a total football ignoramus, has noticed.
I think 1978 sums it up best. They made the 74 final and were definitely the best team in the world at that time. A number of their top players including Cruyff who was the best in the world decided they were not going to play. The team lost the 1978 final even with a depleted squad. Had the top players been there then winning it was a strong possibility.

What is the gender of this? (Amy: add this to your Europe list, unless you have them there)
IndyCar fans may like to note that I'm seeing Twitter traffic suggesting an earlier than planned race start due to an inbound weather system. I'm attempting to confirm.
Race will staart 15 minutes early, at 7.15 UK time
cool. will try and catch some of it.
May try and grab a quick shower, walking the golf course in that heat was quite an exertion :)
And now, an awesome Dr who pic

And a Doctor Hoo pic :D:D

Coool.

Cars rolling in Iowa
a revised video page: http://sidepodcast.com/video/
nice :-)
green flag and yellow flag at the same lap :-(
Hey folks.
hi rg
Wilson and Moraes
the good thing is that even if ESPN is just starting their coverage here, they haven't lost much :P
i have race control open, not sure i can cope with this and football though.
I'm not sure I can cope with the dreadful radio announcers on race control...
on board from TK: Wilson just lost the car by himself
wow! TV coverage has a camera on the middle of the racetrack, ground level :D
digger cam.
power touched milka dunno...
Oh wow Milka touched the leader and blocked 2nd place, awful
takuma fifth!
Duno parked.. :)
*not here*
Goodwood FOS is officially the best event ever... you can hire a Panasonic Lumix G2 camera for FREE!
Link: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sponsored/technology/lumix-g2-digital-camera/7771180/Panasonic-Lumix-G2-event-Goodwood-Festival-of-Speed.html
this is what mr c needed that one time he forgot the battery for his camera ;)
I'm very much looking forward to trying this out though!! how exciting!
You need to get to their stand early to make sure you get one
gooooal
The Ganassi pair are having a bit of a fight up front
tony kanaan on third for the win? ;-)
2nd now, he's fast
Seems Dixon gets the jump every time it goes green then a couple of laps later Dario gets the jump and leads until we get another yellow
By the time I typed that everything changed
takuma still in a solid fifth
and takuma is third now :D
and now is on the wall.... :-(
Sato running 5th has hit the wall...
actually he was 3rd at the time!
The saftey crew were much faster to the driver than with Simona. No fire but even so a massive difference
I was very impressed with how quick they made and released that report ... as long as they implement their learnings, of course!
THe report was quick but I don't buy it for a second. A safeety crew with an average of 20 years experience a head don't know how to pack a hose. A mistake under pressure I can understand but a mistake doing something routine when they have time to make it right is dodgy. You also have to ask why it wasn't obvious extinguishers were better than a hose 30 years ago.
I'm watching IRL :) I've never been able to do that because of my stupid internet but I'm home for a bit so I can now! woohoo
You would be surprised sometimes. Accidents happen often because people who should have known better, don't.
franchitti slows down! is castroneves vs TK now
with EJ Viso close in third
For Spa people, your pages are now on the new wiki.
http://sidepodcast.wikia.com/wiki/Spa_Grand_Prix_2010
yay. thanks christine
YEAH!
kanaan-castroneves-viso
that makes for a full south-american podium :-)
Great to see TK get another win at last!
Thanks :)
Ganassi seemed to be dominating the race and end up just with a 6th
They dominate most ovals, good to see that broken. I believe until today a Penske or Ganassi has won every oval for over 2 years.
I have heard that kind of comment recently but I am not sure how long it has been but it is a ridiculously long time
they were saying something like that last race
Didn't Justin Wilson win a race last year for Dale Coyne?
No
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_IndyCar_Series_season#Race_results
Wiki says it was Kanaan at Richmond in June 2008
He won at Watkins Glen
that's this year's :)
So close
Jumping to NASCAR on a road course to see how Montoya's doing. http://www.justin.tv/johnathangregorio
I knew Mattias Ekstrom of DTM was there but didn't expect much from him... he's 3rd. Marcos Ambrose ex- of V8 Supercar will lead when the pit sequence cycles through. Waiting for ads to end before finding JPM's position..
Anybody got anything to plug for tomorrow's daily?
just the new video page from me, sir.
Cool. Will do
I don't :( I seem to have lost my blogging touch over the last week or so, boo.
I was on Question Time
#justsaying
;)
I think there has been too much football to concentrate on blogging ;)
Pics or it didn't happen ;)
Theres an hour of video!!!
I'm too lazy to watch an hour of question time - didn't you take a pic?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00svbf2/Question_Time_17_06_2010/
watch the last minute of this, im 4th row on the end on the right
Cool - how come you got to go to that?
You can just apply on their website
I'll leave to clean my house. see you!
Good on you for going ;)
It was alot of fun, very exciting too. Plus I got free water and biscuits and a packet of prawn cocktail crisps, easily pleased me.
Oh and I got to meet dimbles. Made me very happy, I love dimbles
It's really easy to apply. I was going to go once but then it turned out I had exams and I couldn't go. A couple of my friends have been before. I don't know anyone who's applied and has been rejected. I think people are quite apathetic around where I live though so.... :P
It's not a case of rejected, they just don't get back to you. I applied once a while ago and never heard anything back, but they phoned me on Wednesday to let me know that i'd be accepted. I'd forgotten that I'd applied
You can say what you want about Adebayor, but he's a bloody brave man talking about what happened...
It sounds horrific. When was that?
African Cup of Nations in January ...
psst - football in the football thread ;)
This year??? Oh my word!?!
(hearts)
It's not World Cup though ;)
interesting argument. but the purpose of the threads is to keep the daily free from football, for those who have no interest in the game. i guess.
Yeah I know. Pressed Quick Comment for the first time in ages and I get the wrong thread. Massive Ironic Fail :(
We were talking about a bus ambushed by gunmen that somehow I'd failed to hear about before... I must have been in Dubai.
Ooh rather sleepy. Off to get breakfast at the official sponsor of the 2010 fifa world cup to try wake up :D
i feel more awake now. Stay tuned for a crash in about 3 hours. I think my 2 shift sleeping attempt will start off well tonight.
Well that was quite enjoyable, albeit with faults... NASCAR at Sears Point. Leader threw it away, silly.
who was the leader?
Marcos Ambrose, Australian guy who used to do V8 Supercars
who??
Well yeah..
He turned off his engine to save fuel under a yellow, which apparently they do often, coast along for a bit. But he did it going uphill and it wouldn't restart when he wanted it to. He lost 6 or 7 places, but then drove past them all to take his place at the front behind the safety car. Can't do that. Stupid error.
they switch off engines to save fuel? what?
I don't get it either. I always thought you use more restarting it than if you'd left it running
same.
