We are well and truly into the 2009 season now, with launches and an official entry list to kick start the year. From a drought of F1 news, January has become a flood of teams and drivers talking up their chances for the coming season. We are pretty much recovered from Autosport now, and can start concentrating on what 2009 has to bring.
- Of course, the first thing it has to offer is ugly cars. We all knew it was coming, and still there was the anticipation of what the first launched chassis would look like. Ferrari did the honours, and there you have it. That's what we're going to be looking at for the next 12 months. Share your thoughts, if you haven't already.
- We also got the entry list from the FIA, which raised a few questions. There are two empty slots for the team formerly known as Honda. They haven't withdrawn their entry yet, which can only be a positive sign. There's also some wonderment over the numbering system, particularly at Ferrari. Who should be ahead, Kimi or Felipe?
- Although we are recovered from the trade show, we're still sorting through the media we came home with. Pictures are beginning to filter through to the Sidepodcast Flickr account. Personally, I can't stay on there too long without fainting, but perhaps you will have more luck.
That's by no means an exhaustive list, there's always plenty going on in the comments. Dive right in with whatever is on your mind, and I'll see you in there.
This guy has the highres pictures of the F60 you've all been gagging for.
I had to download them to get rid of the JPEG artifacting that flickr brings. Once on my PC (legal?), they showed up clean and clear.

Off-topic, in a mid-season F1 08 BAT game, I just came 3rd at Barcelona - in a Super Aguri! :D
Can you explain the mid-season concept to me please? Is it where people have fired their team-mates and you play a pickup game?
wish me luck... today i'm downloading windows 7 for installation on the eeepc.
:|
Are you sure that's a good idea?
Yup, exactly that. When people are either put up for sacking or inactive for 3 days or more, their slots are opened up for anyone to jump in.
It's pretty good - but there is a known bug. Don't use it to access any MP3's
It may corrupt them.
don't really have a lot of choice.
ubuntu sucks in so many ways, and i don't really want to go out and buy a copy of windows xp to replace it.
plus a beta version of a microsoft OS could hardly be any less stable than a released version, right?
blimey. that's a corker!
Wrong. Oh so very wrong.
i'll re-phrase that.
...
it can't be any worse than vista right?
I guess not. I just don't see the point of crippling your poor little machine with such a resource hog.
if apple released a tablet or a netbook, i'd already own one. but ubuntu is the best linux has to offer and it's still unusable :(
Which bits don't you like then?
the day before we went to paris i did a normal "recommended update" thingy. a safe *ubuntu only* upgrade for security stuff and such.
arrived in paris, no 3g connection. got lost in paris :)
had no 3g connection upon return, and finally fixed it last week in time for the weekend. the problem...
some updated file had set the modem to be a usb storage device for no good reason. looked into it and the file is owned my some guy, somewhere and just gets bundled into the updates package. that's crazy. killing peripherals via a software update is MS territory cira 1999.
wasted hours and hours and hours fixing a problem i wouldn't have had if i was using windows.
additionally, they knowingly broke wifi with the intrepid release, but still called it stable. european wifi is still broken months after it's release.
it's an embarrassment and i'll happily say linux will never, ever make it onto the mainstream desktop, and it's nothing to do with nasty business practices from MS or anyone else.
well, you'd perhaps have wasted the same number of hours fixing a malware infection or something, but it can and still does happen to commercial software from time to time. Recently VMware users discovered that the programmers had left the timeout code in their flagship enterprise product. Result was anyone who powered off a virtual server was unable to start it up again until a patch was released.
I guess I am just happy in my OS X world :)
and on that note I'm off to bed. Night all.
Nothing ever has been or ever will be worse than Vista
Seems like you didn't had the chance to try Windows ME, aka Millenium Bug :)
Now about the upcoming season. The car does look bad, but not as awful as I feared. Actually, looking from over the car, I found it prettier than last year's car: http://www.blogdocapelli.com.br/2009/01/comparativo-f2008-x-f60/
Regarding the driver numbers, the brazilian press asked Luca Colajanni about it and he said that Massa would be #3 while Kimi will get #4. So an ammendment to that FIA's list is expected.
ahh, many thanks for the clarification felipe :)
Surely, as a former world champion, Kimi would have the lower number?
Morning all,
In other news, I sent a link last night to a story on Autosport that MotoGP had switched from Donington to Silverstone. Apparently this requires Silverstone to have some layout changes due to the close proximity of walls towards the track.
It was also interesting to note that the deal has been done because (a) MotoGP have been unhappy with the Donington facilities (especially the paddock) for years and (b) now they have the F1, they will not want to focus so much on the MotoGP.
Thoughts anyone?
The new Red Bulletin is available. I have had a read of it and did't think it was too bad. It's nothing like the one of old though.
ummm.
...
...
...
*thinks hard*
...
its real? as in... i can't view it online?
i have to get up and go outside? i have to pay for it?
...
it can't be shared on drop.io? we can't link to it?
this is baaaaad.
Am I seeing things? Is Lou really quickest in Turkey practice?
You is lazy :-D
How is anyone meant to remember to buy an Independant on the first Tuesday of every month?
It seems like it's the Red Bulletin in name only, not the magazine we've known from the past.
Shame.
Perhaps we'll have to rely on Dank to come and tell us: It's Red Bulletin Tuesday :)
Done!
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/0109-redbulletin-pdf
how'd you do that?
http://uk.redbulletin.com/articles/magazine_archive/
Dave sounds like I should be worried ;)
that's perfect :)
yay, red bull.
Buggeration. I could have got it for nothing?
Oh well, I like to have something tangible in my hands (matron!) :-D
hehe :)
RSS feed and everything. Buy more Red Bull, I say.

Ex-Honda to have Merc motors
3 teams with Merc power? Wow, didn't think they'd branch out their supply that far.
deal.
It means there will be 6 cars with McLaren KERS and 8 (Ferrari and Renault engined) cars with Magnetti-Marrelli KERS. Not exactly the 10 version arms race Max sold us.
Ollie is three years old!
http://blogf1.co.uk/2009/01/13/happy-third-birthday-blogf1/
How cool is that?
:)
bloomin' heck.
lol am i still the quickest then? i assumed someone would have set a quicker time by now. go honda! :P
well... i suppose it's an engine.... but x3 mclaren powered teams on the grid?..
not especially f1 related, but an interesting read:

this one's better:

;)
Hmm, I don't know why but I keep thinking look at that pic Force India might have just given away their 2009 livery.
nahh. it's an official calendar and official release from the team, on their own website.
why in the world would they do that?
plus, have you seen all that gold? why would they do that?
Yeah I see what you mean. Although I couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic or not :P
They chose gold over the lovely dark red last year. Anything could happen.
Autosport has gotten whiff of the Honda-Mercedes story

WOW!
pretty sure grandprix.com can claim that one as their own!
i was serious. i don't think that looks like a livery worth having.
Ferrari F60 track footage courtesy of yossidlr
nope, that's gone wrong :P
hehe. will fix in a bit :)
schumi, on that accident:
"Suddenly, I felt my heart rate dropped and all of a sudden, my heart stopped beating completely. Everything has become black. At that time, I thought that is what we should feel when you are en route to the afterlife. I do not know how long I went, it was just a simple failure or a state of shock. I just know that my heart stopped beating. At least that's what I felt. "
roughly translated from: http://www.lequipe.fr/Formule1/20090113_153038_schumacher-a-cru-mourir-a-silverstone.html
he only broke a leg for goodness sakes!
"An air steward has apologised for making "unfounded" allegations against McLaren Formula One chairman Ron Dennis at a Southampton employment tribunal."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7826605.stm
ridiculous waste of everyone's time or what?
That is more or less all Ronnie Peterson had and it killed him.
However it is a massive over-reaction to a minor accident.
might've got lost in translation mind you. might be the newspaper over-hyping it. hard to tell.
The translation looks good to me but my French is not what it once was.
If the "plane meets building" overhype is anything to go by, what Schumi probably said was:
"I gasped."
Some of the allegations were ludicrous. He accused Ron of saying he had to wash his hands because he had been shaking hands with Arabs all day. Mansour Ojjeh has been his business partner for 20 odd years so he is hardly going to be racist against Arabs.
It does look like everyone agreed a deal though and the guy got a cheque to apologise and say nothing more about it.
i imagine that's all he was ever after.
I think the first thing I saw on that one was "Alonso survives plane crash". That was a little over the top in the circumstances.
factually correct mind you :)
It's certainly a showstopper - but I've heard that a fix is available.
Still - doesn't effect FLAC files. ;)
I've found that it outperforms XP and Vista so far. I like it.
Ummm... How about a Dell laptop with an install of OsX86? ;)
Really? This shambles of a PC *needs serious updating - P3 600... :D * hasn't been rebuilt in about 4 years. No firewall and no AV installed - just behind a hardware firewall. No issues at all. It's only a problem if you use a non up to date browser *as big an issue with Firefox as it is with IE* and click accept to everything.
Windows ME. Take Windoes 98, remove the nice interface, add in a bastardised version of the Win2k interface - and then break every useful bit of functionality. :D
In moderation. :(
sorted and scott's video also embedded correctly.
webber on recovery progress:
“I have been doing a lot of pool work, static bike and a lot of specific exercises to keep the leg firing through when I could not put weight on it. That has all gone to plan, no complications, which is always nice. I have lost a sizeable chunk of my aerobic fitness but I am very confident that come the last few tests I will be in very good shape again.”
more: http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2009/1/8836.html
You mean he hasn't used the leg as an excuse to eat Doritos and watch films all day?
I'm disappointed.
Thats pretty much what I'm doing. :D
Well, not Doritos *other snacks are available...* but I've been given a challange. Watch all of the IMDB top 250 fils *as of 1st january* in 1 year.
Easy. Already up to 22 films done.
Wow. Am impressed. Any recommendations so far?
Don't be impressed - I really have nothing else to do. :D
I've managed to watch a couple of films that I've never seen before which is nice.
Shawshank Redemption - superb. Morgan Freeman is possibly the best actor around at the moment.
Blade Runner - Masterpiece. The most influential SciFi film I can think of. *and watching it at the IMAX last night rocked!*
King Kon - 1933 version, preferably not the digitally coloured version. Still better than most current moster movies. Especially the Peter Jackson remake.
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair - It's Volume 1 and 2 combined with a couple of deleted scenes to make a 4 hour long film. Much more violence *it's uncut...* but it's a much better film this way.
2001 A Space Odyssey - Some of the best practical special effects ever - very subtle.
Oh yeah - it was the first time I'd watched Shawshank Redemption. Bluray isn't really stretched by it but it does look good.
That's the only one of your list I've seen.
It's a pre-release of a TV interview that will be broadcasted tonight on German TV. They are just trying to catch as many viewers as possible
Me too - loved it. Saw one or other of the Kill Bills and thought is pretty naff, but perhaps it's better to see both bits together!
Always meant to watch Blade Runner but just haven't got round to it...
ahh, cheers. no doubt he'll say what christine said :)
Oh dear... classic british comedy and classic films - someone needs some serious education. ;)
How about Godfather and Godfather Part II?
Goodfellas?
Se7en?
Young Frankenstein, Life of Brian, Monty Python and the Holy Grail?
Full Metal Jacket?
The Sting?
Nope. I've seen some of Se7en but didn't really like it.
I was forced to watch the Life of Brian and in the end had to admit it was okay. I was supposed to watch the Holy Grail one but couldn't get past the fact they were pretending to make clip clop horsey noises.
The Sting is one of my top ten faves.
BAT racer quali in 45minutes and only 14 cars have set a practise time so far.
You're absolutely right iont that one.
My favourite movies are actually A unfinished life, Million Ddllar baby and the Shawshank redemption.
Although I am convinced him starring in them is only a coincidence.
Back on topic.
The more I look at that Ferrari the less ugly it seems to become. After watching that on track video it even sort of starts to make sense.
It actually looks ok out there, although it does have a nasty look from certain angles.
By far not as good looking as any of their cars in the last decade or so.
Life of Brian is OK??? The clip clop horsey noises were necessitated by having no bufget but they just work.
I love The Sting. I have lost count of how often I have seen it.
That front wing still looks ridiculous to me.
When the last change was made and the cars were narrowed and the rear wings lowered etc they looked really odd. I don't remember them looking that ugly and unnatural though.
He has made one big mistake though - He's played God. Only one man alive should be allowed to play God - and that man is Brian Blessed!
Thing is, I approached watching it already determined to hate it because I don't like being told what I should and shouldn't like.
So I admit it's okay, but it started from a negative, so that probably means it's really good.
Hm he probably said what they wrote but I'm not sure it was meant to sound as dramatic.
Btw the German article also mentions that Sid Watkins said that Schumi's helmet broke when his head hit the steering wheel.
he he
Life of Brian is the 146th greatest film of all time according to the IMDB list I'm using.
Not bad for a really cheap film - it's also definately one of my favourite comedies of all time.
Although I have no idea who he is, with such a surname there are few other eligible candidates :-P
Large bearded chap - and very loud. :D
Played Prince Vultan in Flash Gordan and uttered the famous "Gordans Alive!" line. ;)
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8SNbHvFqQQo
Brian Blessed
There is a test that you can do to see how many of those films you have watched already...
I'm such a movie geek I have already seen 85.2%
http://plutor.org/filmaddict/
Ummm. In excess of 90%....
Oh dear....
I don't think I want to say my score :(
Not that far to go!
Guessing <25%
No comment.
"Vehicle rolls to a halt with some kind of technical problem" In Q1 so I am dead last.
The same thing happened at the karting. It must be me.
guessing less than <9%
Mine was just under 20%
Wrong! 11.6%! Ha!
Oh. Oops.
Honda gets pole and Christine qaualifies in the top ten
works every time :)
if it makes you feel better i didn't score much higher.
How on earth did that happen?
22.4% - 2009 may be the year of watching more movies as well as reading more books!
I assume a combination of good set up and tactics coupled with 8 people not practising and 4 people not settig any time in Q1
WOAH!
How is that possible?
I don't know if you've heard of a little thing called Sidepodcast? It takes up quite a lot of time.
Even I managed to average around films a year when working 14 hours a day...
Although insomnia helped.
Ah see, I love my sleep.
D'OH!
Uttered?!? :P
Alright... shouted. :D
I could maybe average that as well, but not 200 different films ;)
I don't believe this! Eighth again! :D
Most of what I watch will be ones I haven't seen before. There is a core of classic films that I will watch several times over the year though.
Ferris Beullers Day Off, Star Wars Saga, The Goonies, Grosse Pointe Blank, Army of Darkness, Clerks, Die Hard...
Could have been you were the only one in the top ten with softs on?
i used to watch films in the years bspc.
Ha, I remember him. I think he's the one I liked best of the first Blackadder series.
He would be great as God indeed :-P
Oh, and woohoo for grabbing pole! And Lou came so close, but I'm afraid she pushed a bit too hard in Q3.
Doesn't look like rain for the race though.
But then again we were very quick in practice as well. SO I've got some high hopes!
Congrats to Scott and Selidor for 2nd and 3rd!
And way to go Christine! :D
:D
I think "the years bspc" should be put into our dictionary!
*writes down "Note to self - when in Super Aguri, use softs in light rain qualifying"* ;)
Only reason Alenyaa's on pole = Wet Weather Warrior trait ;)
wohoo! Well done Alenyaa! Go Honda! :D shame i ended up 9th, might have even been a honda front row. ;) Congrats to Christine too :D
Time for another film.
Just finished wireing up the new TV in my playroom. Got to give it a calibration and burn in.
Blazing Saddles on BluRay I think.
Could this be Alenyaa's time to shine? ;)
Kinda surprized at 3rd, didnt find a very good setup in practice but i guess i just made the right changes.I just know Dank's red bull is gonna be all over me in the race - really hopes he stalls!
Damn it, the plan failed, starting 7th. Gonna have a useless race now.
Evnin all, congrats to Mrs C on the 10th, despite making an absoloute mess of the tyre choice ;)
That, I did not want to see...
He's already shined for me, won the public race in Melbourne I think. But still, that was in a Renault.
Owt else ye be talking about?
The ex-Honda looks like it might be getting a supply of engines from Mercedes.
Steven - warmup runs are done with the converted setup from light rain to dry.
Maybe, but take a look at who came in second in Q1 and Q2, and first in practice :-P
Oh, but I'll gladly shine again, haha :)
I'll do mine now
:D
Noooo! Don't say that!
BATracer warm-up annoys me greatly. I haven't done one session yet without my over-enthusiasm causing a problem of some description!
http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2009/1/8830.html
So, Toyota are doing a proper online launch. Still doesn't really explain why they've stolen the Batman atmosphere though.
It can be annoying. It probably just means your experimenting too much, but not enough to crash. (Trust me, I know about crashing after Barcelona)
Decrease it a little. If you testing on hards, and if the number of runs is high, don't put it over 65. You might want to put it at 63 to be safe. Softs should do at 68 or POSSIBLY 70.
Im so jealous! I saw it at the cinema when it was re-released in 2007 and despite being a only a medium sized screen, (i believe it was a 2K digital presentation) it improved the experience no end...one of the few films that demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible!
from mr. allen:
"...the new engine agreement says that teams must use no more than 8 engines per driver in a season. How they use them is their business. You do not have to use the same engine for three races in a row, for example, you can save them. So you could avoid using the same engine for Spa and Monza, both really tough tracks on engines. Also crucially, you can change engines after qualifying with no penalty this year. The trouble comes when you need a ninth engine…"
more: http://allenonf1.wordpress.com/2009/01/13/more-from-behind-the-scenes-at-ferrari/2/
Practise runs done. Two lots of over-enthusiam ruined two runs. I am starting dead last after not completing a lap. I am NOT enthusiastic about this race.
Your pace seems to be very quick, and seeing as you're in a McLaren points aren't out of the question.
Trig did it in Australia.
Heck, I've seen Torro Rosso's pull such stunts :-P
But anyhoo, I'm off to volleyball practice now. Will see you later tonight!
Hmmm. Back to burning the midnight oil for engineers again.
on the plus side, presumably the stupid 'free engine rule' is not history.
now history. doh!
Most hilarious BATracer warm up, crashed, made a mistake, crashed again.
Ruddy 'ell
96.2%
I had no idea I'd spent that much time staring at a screen... although the inclusion of pixar/ghibli and similar on that list helps (lol).
I think I may just have to blame C4 95 through to 97 when I had DD1 and ended up addicted to old films... except that I used to watch old films on wed. aft. at uni... (house was quiet and empty cos everyone else had lectures then) and, um, late night film 4 more recently...
The things I haven't seen are mainly those that only came out last year or the year before....
And there is a distinct lack of anything sci-fi or with cars in on that list!!
For some reason I just went to the toilet and I daydreamed about the start of the race at Turkey. I got a better start than Alenyaa, cut across him and took the lead through Turn 1 while Christine moved up to 8th.
Yeah, I do that often, LOL :P
I dream about a lot of things, like last night listening to the karting, I imagined myself being flipped by someone.
I swear my thoughts don't like me.
I do that when listening to music, mainly about racing situations.
Lack of sci fi?
Star Wars
Blade Runner
The Matrix
Wall-E
Alien
Aliens
Terminator
T2
Metropolis
2001
...
Yes.. a lack. ;)
I hope you are right. The big problem is my starts are awful although at least I am guaranteed not to lose places at the start of three consecutive races.
I listened to the karting podcast last night and one thing confused me. Mr C said he followed me and learned how to take the corners properly. I don't think I was happy with the way i was taking any corner on the track so he must have been adding a little something to whatever he learned from me. I also think the race director has things wrong if he things we were within a few tenths of a good time. I am certain that if we went back this week we would all easily go half a second faster.
If Alianora's about - any more luck with ftlog?
Shazbot
Alianora has an excellent post on he blog on the changes to the sporting regulations.
http://formula1home.com/forum/weblog.php?w=5
it's nice to see and hear f1 cars on track again :) oh dear, Massa looks like he is trying to grow a beard...
oh dear 8.4% however i'm still young and have plenty of time to watch the films i've not seen :)
excellent stuff. am on it.
thanks, now i feel... old.
Plus you're technically too young to watch quite a few of them. I scored 50.8%, but where were the other Ealing comedies?
I got 10.4%
soz, was trying to justify my lack of film 'education' :P wasn't meaning anyone else wasn't young. ;)
"If anyone uses a ninth engine in the season, they will have a 10-place grid drop for every race until the end of the season."
good grief penfold.
wow, i pity a team with bad reliability this year. On the plus side, the ex honda team can use as many engines as they like cause they will be so far back it won't matter to them ;)
If they get the Mercedes deal, they shouldn't have any trouble with that. Apart from Heikki's failure at Fuji last year, that engine has not failed in 2 years.
don't jinx it :P
:)
Regarding the driver numbers, the brazilian press asked Luca Colajanni about it and he said that Massa would be #3 while Kimi will get #4. So an ammendment to that FIA’s list is expected. {Felipe Leite - 127 comments ago}
That could be awkward. I don't think the FIA has an appeals mechanism for that, short of sacking and re-hiring the duo. I can see that going down a treat...
9.2% movie addict. Woulda been less if I hadn't picked Media, man, I've seen all of the Hitchcock films, Singin' in the rain as well.
But darn, I soo want to see Slumdog Millionaire.
I lurve our reliability.
3 teams with Merc power? Wow, didn’t think they’d branch out their supply that far. {Scott Woodwiss - 116 comments ago}
I didn't think the FIA would let them either, since only Ferrari currently have permission to supply more than two teams. Either the Force India/Mercedes deal is already on the rocks or (much more likely) the rumour-mongers have yet another error on their list.
re this regulation:
The rule forbidding any form of dangerous, erratic or excessively slow driving during Safety Cars has been re-numbered from 40.7 to 40.5. The old Article 40.6 (which concerned pit lane closures) has been deleted entirely.
so if the pitlane is no longer closed, does that mean the new safety car system (dashboard light etc), is going to happen this year?
Wow. I just read Alianora's post - with the help of this website. http://www.spreeder.com/
Thanks for the investigative work.
There is a test that you can do to see how many of those films you have watched already… {Alex Andronov - 88 comments ago}
12.4%. What surprised me was how many of them I thought "Oh yes, I saw two scenes... ...and either wandered off bored or put my nose in a book because the film didn't appeal to me".
Plainly my tastes do not agree with a lot of other peoples', but I'm used to that.
So, Toyota are doing a proper online launch. Still doesn’t really explain why they’ve stolen the Batman atmosphere though. {Christine - 37 comments ago}
Batman Begins has a reputation in the techier parts of film circles for having a really good viral campaign. Maybe Toyota wanted some of the vibe - or maybe they're just promoting the next Batman film.
What's up Chief? :D
As I posted above, have you had any luck with ftlog yet Alianora?
Okay, non-F1 here for a minute, but the start to CSI is very emotional. Very sad
:)
If Alianora’s about - any more luck with ftlog? {Scott Woodwiss - 21 comments ago}
No. This joining RLB business is not going well, but I am persisting - it took me nearly 10 months to join the Fisichella Forum and I'm not going to give up on RLB just because its forum supplier wouldn't let me in on the first go.
Is it possible to contact the forum administrator about it?
What seems to be the problem? Maybe I can get some of the guys over there to help.
don’t jinx it {lou - 14 comments ago}
I'd echo that, since Force India are having Mercedes engines themselves...
so if the pitlane is no longer closed, does that mean the new safety car system (dashboard light etc), is going to happen this year? {me - 12 comments ago}
I'd say that was likely, though it's not actually written into the regulations. There may be more experimentation before a solution to Safety Cars is formalised.
Thanks for the investigative work. {Dave in NZL - 11 comments ago}
You're welcome.
What seems to be the problem? {Scott Woodwiss - 4 comments ago}
I registered with ftLog, but then when I tried to log into RLB, ftLog claimed I hadn't registered. It seems to be ftLog rather than RLB itself that's playing up.
Have you subscribed to the RLB forums via ftlog? That might solve it.
It's not letting me log into ftLog to subscribe into RLB :(
Have you activated your account? I'm just trying to find out at what stage you're at so that I can think what to do.
Is there an FAQ somewhere you can consult as well?
I'm currently waiting for ftLog to email me my details. 30 minutes later and it's not happened yet.
Is there an option somewhere on the site to resend that e-mail?
Have you activated your account? I’m just trying to find out at what stage you’re at so that I can think what to do. {Scott Woodwiss - 2 comments ago}
Is there an FAQ somewhere you can consult as well?
I activated the account two days ago. I'm trying to do the step after that, which is to use the activated account to log into ftLog. The ftLog FAQ doesn't cover my problem (it assumes that once you've registered, you won't have any problems between registration and using the PM system) and the attached forum is in an unreadable colour scheme for me.
If the RLB forum has anything relevant, I won't be able to read it until I've got past the ftLog login hurdle because the posts have stopped resolving into a forum again.
Is there an option somewhere on the site to resend that e-mail? {Scott Woodwiss - 2 comments ago}
Yes. The question is whether it will work. Given what ftLog has done to me so far, I wouldn't put money on it.
I have now re-sent the e-mail
That's OK, I can relay any advice they give to here.
I've just created an account on my other e-mail address to see if I get any kind of problems too.
I just subscribed to an FTLog forum with no problems. Hmm, very strange.
Do you still have your original activation e-mail?
Some jolly nice pictures from the current Dakar rally: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2009/01/the_2009_dakar_rally.html
The email has come through. The username is exactly what I was putting in before, but the username is still not being accepted.
Never mind - I've just found an alternate way into the ftLog login screen and I've now managed to log in.
Now to register with RLB and find that press release!
Huzzah! :D
Why does it have grooved tyres?
How's it going, Alianora?
ha! i didn't notice.
that's a bloomin' good question. fif1 know something the rest of us don't?
Huzzah! :D {Scott Woodwiss - 4 comments ago}
I finally figured out what I did wrong. I signed up to the wrong RLB forum. There's an old one that they stopped using in Hungary 2007, and that's the one I inadvertantly went into today...
Why does it have grooved tyres? {Bassano Clapper - 3 comments ago}
Because they're attached to the VJM01, which is last year's car.
I see your name on the members list Ali! :D
By joining RLB, you've already got yourself a title - the forum's 300th member :)
but it has a massive front wing?
Either it's the angle of the camera, or FIF1 really did mess up big time.
Next question - how do I create a new topic in RLB (which it appears is necessary to join?)
I really liked this bit from James Allen's piece:
A Lancia :)
Obviously they wanted the beauty on both the person and the car :D
Or even more obviously, its your eyes decieving you, it looks like last years wing.
but it has a massive front wing? {me - 3 comments ago}
Artistic license, I guess. It can't possibly be the new car because it's too close to the 2008 car in shape and there's too many flick-ups (even if the flick-ups resemble the launch version rather than the race version).
OK, to post your intro RP, go to Introduce yourself, click New, title the topic with your name and then post maybe a small introduction and your RP, which ever you want to do :)
understood.
:D
My guess is click the 'New' button on the top.
I'm not lurking or anything...
Next question - how do I create a new topic in RLB (which it appears is necessary to join?) {Alianora La Canta - 3 comments ago}
Found it now. My application for RLB should be in any minute :)
hehehehe.
ollie just informed us on identi.ca that weblog award voting is now over.
thank you everyone who voted!
I wouldn't really call it an application. Everyone gets excepted really, it's just a matter of finding a drive. I wouldn't have thought you'd be able to do it right now since we're halfway through our current season. But you could post some report RPs to build your rep before you look for a drive next season.
corrected.
Finished 8th in best online community and 7th in best Podcast. So, at least it wasn't last.
Ollie finished last sadly, but Kieth an impressive 5th in Best Sports.
quality stuff. opposite of what we were expecting, so that shows ya how much we know :)
go ollie, go keith!
next year they need a dedicated f1 category.
Just reading your intro RP Ali. Why am I called Steve by the way? :P
Nice one Alia, not that I read it as I wasn't lurking ;) but very good, 34 secs later and a good reply, Well done girl.
And with that, good night.
Has anyone read "the why are you here cafe" ??
I'm half way through, its great.
Any of the photographers here follow the 'what the duck' comic strip? This one made me chuckle today
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/what-the-duck-121-gif
g'night r.g.
thats very good lo
:D
Haha. Genius
That was quick! I posted the press release and was declared "in" less than 120 seconds later. Clearly the RLBFIA are nothing like their offline counterparts...
New one everyday: http://whattheduck.net/
I created a widget using that safari cut-out doo-dah for my dashboard
There are some real characters around. It's a great community once you get into it for a bit. Enjoy it, that's what I say. :P
That sentence will make very little sense to an awful lot of people I've just realised :D
What The Duck is pure genius.
I wouldn’t really call it an application. Everyone gets excepted really, it’s just a matter of finding a drive. I wouldn’t have thought you’d be able to do it right now since we’re halfway through our current season. But you could post some report RPs to build your rep before you look for a drive next season. {Scott Woodwiss - 12 comments ago}
I see. I wasn't sure, since I had a feeling there might be some sort of minimum standard (for instance, I think Matt Emmens, who applied immediately before, may need a re-write to get in...) At least I get to participate in the "silly season", then!
i got it :)
There's an official WTD widget you can download, no need to mess with the Safari one
Just reading your intro RP Ali. Why am I called Steve by the way? {Scott Woodwiss - 13 comments ago}
Possibly because I originally typed that on a tram and missed that error when I proofread it. Oops!
Then you couldn't tell the world that you got within a couple of hundred votes of beating TWIT
It’s a great community once you get into it for a bit. Enjoy it, that’s what I say. {Scott Woodwiss - 7 comments ago}
Thanks, Scott. I will :)
Experimental embedded video
Obviously not, so here's the link:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9qQoaPUw6lQ
On Fridays What The Duck is animated :)
That is sooo not what he sounded like in my head :)
soz. wordpress admins only. drop.io integrations on me list though. not sure about youtube embedding, that's more complicated.
that is quite a statistic!
i actually meant for ollie / kc, cause we had to split votes.
I wonder if an F1 Minute web-clip widget would work?
["safari cut-out doo-dah" sounds much better]
By the way, how'd you get on with Winblows 7 beta Mr C.?
I can't manage to download it without IE and am a bit put off by that mp3 glitch
never thought. did it?
dictionary?
hmmm, yeah. about that. having issues thus far. the default installation is too big for the 4GB drive. need to reduce it using some nonsensical hack first.
give me a day or so :)
I just realised that there is not a Mel Brooks film on that IMDB list and from memory only one Marx Bros film. What kind of second rate list is it?
1) Yes, but will test it's refresh with tomorrow's edition
Pic: http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/f1-minute-on-dashboard-jpg
2) Will try to remember to wikitionary it tomorrow
well would you look at that :)
Exactly. No Genevive, a must for any car racing fan.
There's only one Ealing comedy on the list too.
It's too early for The Dark Knight to be at number 5.
Films under a year old should be banned from a list of 'all time greatest'
I read somewhere the other day that someone had managed to install OS X on an Eee pc. I was half tempted to get one :)
i'm gonna need a link for that!
:)
Not the one I was reading but here's another
http://lifehacker.com/5051012/run-mac-os-x-on-an-eee-pc
No Sound and No Flash
yikes. i may give it while :)
Damn, no Qualy live streaming!
If it was something classy, then no problems. Lancia Delta Integrale or a Stratos, fair enough.
Was probably the new Lancias which are hideous.
I know someone like that - the other half's dad. He's useless with electronic kit.
Mel Brooks: Young Frankenstien
You are right about there being only one Marx Brothers film though.
It's called OsX86. ;) I mentioned it earlier.
In moderation again.... :(
It really doesn't like many quotes.
iplayer is #1 priority :)
:(
Oh yes. I ticked that one. No Producers or Blazing Saddles though
Shame. The Producers over Blazing Saddles for me, although they are both great. It's just the idea of a Springtime for Hitler musical. :D
No-one but Mel Brooks could have made that work. I remember the first tim I saw that. Sat stunned for about a minute disbelieving that I could be seeing such a thing.
Mel Brooks is a comedic genius in my mind. Even his not very good films are still funny. Dracula, Dead and loving it still makes me laugh.
I do think that The Producers is his best film, very closely followed by Silent Movie. I love that that only person who speaks is Marcel Marceau
Silent Movie is great - you know when Marcel Marceau died they held a minute's noise? :D
:D
Flibster, I really like your movie selection :-)
Too bad that I don't have that good variety anywhere near me...
On the F60/Massa's video: have you noticed that Massa says that F60's KERS is actually working? Still testing it, but the KERS in that car is not just dead weight...
I don't think I have ever heard of silent movie. I must look out for it.
Don't forget History Of The World Part 1 but my favorite Mel Brooks movie is Blazing Saddles with Young Frankenstein a close 2nd Marty Feldman steals that movie.
Boy, I am away from the site a bit and everyone's taking about movies and some sort of racing going on with Super-Aguri and Honda in the mix....What gives?
"I am away from the action a little bit and everyone gets delusions of grandeur" - Han Solo, Return of the Jedi.
Shocking. Duck Soup and A Night At The Opera are all-time classics, although the hiss on the soundtracks are so bad that you miss half of Groucho's jokes.
Ah yes. Haven't seen it for years. It's now banned from the house; I took Mrs C (my Mrs C, that is, not the Mrs C from round here) to the West End production and she hated it.
Hmmm, where's the Daily post? :P Did those two decide to have an early night and forgot about it? :D
I'm on it.
And isn't the Toyota launch supposed to be this morning? Because according to the Premiere page, it's tomorrow :S
My mistake, it is tomorrow. Carry on. :P
Is it Thursday already?
Phew. Don't do that to me! :)
Sorry. I had to double check on Autosport to make sure it was tomorrow :P
Your daily post is now ready for you.
http://www.sidepodcast.com/2009/01/14/daily-14th-january-2009/
Excellent :)
welcome back jordan :)
I knew 'me' caused problems but now Mrs C is problematic as well.
It's BAT racer. Online racing management game.
We like to be difficult :)
how 'bout mrs. spc?
That seems like an awful lot of letters.
I know, how about Christine?
