After the RB5 hit the ground running yesterday, we're now ready to see it in action as the test in Jerez gets underway. In fact, we really do need to see it in action, as it got cut off after only 14 laps. Here's what we'll be looking out for:
- A couple of teams will be heading out to the desert and favouring Bahrain over the European circuits. Toyota, BMW and Ferrari are the ones we know about, I wonder if anyone else will try and avoid the weather and join them?
- Williams seem to be running with yet another new livery. There's a lack of sponsorship going on, and some more white on the car than the previous iteration. Will this be anything like the finished product or are they just teasing us?
- Kathi left us with a great comment from Vettel, who's only summations from his brief ride in the RB5 were: "It's mostly blue and it goes round in circles." Love it. Will he be able to get any more track time today?
- And of course, given our new found knowledge of KERS, we'll be watching ever so closely for any hints about the device on any teams that may be running it.
That should keep us going. I can't wait to see the car's in action again, hopefully the weather will hold for them. Let us know what you're up to, and I'll see you in the comments.
"Williams seem to be running with yet another new livery. There’s a lack of sponsorship going on, and some more white on the car than the previous iteration. Will this be anything like the finished product or are they just teasing us?"
I think they are just teasing. If you were an F1 team, you'd want the attention too.
if red bull had just revealed the best livery ever i would, yes :)
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/picture_free.php/dir/mx2009test1/image/E1B_7139_P-2
I'm sorry but that has to be one of the funniest pictures of the year already. Just because :D
That picture is just so wrong on so many levels! I wonder what Tamara is saying on the mic... ;)
On another note, Red Bull and especially Newey really are going old school with that rear wing. Case in point: http://www.autosport.com/gallery/picture_free.php/dir/1986spn1/image/l_20-2
And I bet a lot of people would struggle to identify the famous driver in that helmet
yes i would.
What am I up to today? This is my second day off for the week, so I call it my Sunday.
Zoe is finally out of bed and we have just had an awesome conversation about the Large Hadron Collider and other similarly intelligent sounding things over breakfast. I am so lucky to be with someone so smart.
Valentines Day this Saturday people. Don't forget.
Berger? My first thought was Teo Fabi though. I have a terrible memory but sometimes it surprises me
His helmet looks strikingly similar to Jean-Christophe Boullions. But this phto is whaaay before his time. Fabi?
Hrumph.
But that is kinda cool. The conversation, that is. (In case my previous comment was taken outta context.) :)
I'm guessing Fabi too. I think he was Berger's teammate that year.
The helmet was Berger's before he switched to the more famous version. Teo Fabi had a similar pattern in the Italian colour green, white and red.
Now that is interesting. I always knew Berger with the very dark blue (yes, it was very dark blue and not black) with red and white Austrain flag motif thing. Thanks Steven.
But I see green, white, and red on the side of his helmet. So shouldn't that be Fabi then?
Fabi's helmet
http://www.asag.sk/fabit-a1.htm
Ahh, I see. Alright. Golly, I should be remembering this from the helmet Excel sheet! Alas, I don't. :D
So... are we going to do another BAT race season. I need something to fill up the rest of the off-season.
The 1986 season is about to get started, methinks. The details should be somewhere on yesterday's Daily thread.
Re: the Williams Livery.
As well as being told about the lighter colour of the new livery whilst I was at Williams, I was also told about sponsorship changes, most of which I'm sure you know anyway, but the chap reeled of a long list of names no longer to appear on the car, and a very short list of new names or increased coverage. Worrying times for Williams I'm sure.
Some big names gone included Inevo and Petrobas, not to mention most of the smaller brands like Hamleys that were all part of the Bauger group. I believe this is the last year of the AT&T contract as well. And don't bank (no pun intended) on RBS being around for much longer either!!
i like that explanation. i don't think it's very good for williams, but in terms of explaining how the credit crunch is affecting f1, that's genius :)
dark blue williams in action: http://www.f1today.nl/foto/5481/
some well worn inters on that thing, anyone fancy a punt at guessing the driver from that helmet teaser?
Nico Huelkenberg?
could well be. so in action today in jerez:
- hulk
- piquet
- vettel
nothing as yet from mclaren, and lord knows if anyone's covering bahrain?
The Hulk!
R.G.?
Nooo. That was Jon :)
jon's driving today?
By process of elimination, I think he must be.
good luck jon.
no wonder they have a fat nose:
what the heck is that box at the front?
ahh, live(ish) test numbers:
http://directo.thef1.es/tests/
(via jr2008 on the renault blog)
heikki and buemi are the other two drivers today. some very early test times:
i do declare that the new rbr is the fastest car ever and will therefore win the championship. 13 laps is all i need :)
Was I right when I said it was Huelkenberg then? Cool! :-D
i never doubted ya :)
FRANCK news!
he's competing in the 12hrs of sebring for peugeot in march. alongside bourdais. how the heck is le seb going to fit all of this in?
and can we live comment it please?
linky: http://www.motorsport.com/news/article.asp?ID=318357&FS=
you'll have to be good from now until then - no more swears mmkay?
okay!
:)
Boo. You got there first :(
http://iheartfranck.com/2009/02/10/three-peugeot-drives-announced/
so in bahrain we have:
- massa
- kubica
- glock
no times from those guys yet though :(
awww, no way! sorry, i had no idea.
looks like your racing season just got a whole lot more interesting :)
Erm...... I'm guessing - something to do with the KERS?
What have I been saying all along? This is starting to look very much like 1998 already. A new set of rules and already the Newey-designed car is the fastest ;)
I doubted me! (not 'me' ;-) )
is that a 'thingy' hanging down under the nose of the bmw in that pic?
Probably should just leave a note saying "BRB, racing at Sebring" :P
Hang on, we don't know how fragile it is. Wait until raceday before we judge the cars!
no idea. never see it before. is it the control unit of something?
gooood spot! it is, a different shape, but you're right.
:D
Either that or it's one of the battery packs a la what Ferrari's been trying. Mind you, if it is that's a heck of a load of wires stuffed into and around it.
some times from bahrain:
1. R. Kubica BMW Sauber F1.09 ---- 1:34.397
2. F. Massa Ferrari F60 ---- 1:34.548 +0.151
3. T. Glock Toyota TF109 ---- 1:35.324 +0.927
piggyback ecu? :P
Well sure, it had a mechanical failure yesterday but even McLaren had reliability issues in 1999 yet they still won the championship that year.
I think basing it on combined performances, despite different circuits, the current pecking order is (in my opinion):
Red Bull, BMW, Ferrari, Toyota, McLaren, Williams, Renault
Yes yes, I know it's early days yet but I think we should definately start sizing up how everyone's doing compared to the rest of the field.
1986 BAT game reminder :)

Password: bourdais ;)
Comment in moderation.
based on no information whatsoever? sounds like us :)
i declare the old toro rosso to be fastest and the force india to be slowest.
You mean that's STR's new car? My goodness, it looks surprisingly like the 2008 car... ;)
I've put a BATRacer note up on my blog.
Do you mind if I put our BAT game up on RLB and see if I can get some of the guys over there to come join? :)
Just to let you all know, I have fixed the calendar that someone broke and the Upcoming Schedule is actually up to date for a change.
http://www.sidepodcast.com/about/upcoming-schedule/
two cars on track. times not improving. track is wet.
of note. apparently the '09 cars are currently two seconds off the pace of the STR in the dry, but eight seconds off the STR pace in the wet.
that must be some kind of anonomly right?
i didn't break it, google did.
i blame steven anyways.
vettel, feeding kathi some of his best lines:
Kimi said that the new aero is 30-40% weaker in the dry but 70% when it is wet
that's going to make wet racing a little interesting :)
:)
this will annoy christine intensely:
am assuming the larger hole has something to do with kers cooling?
No silly, they're jet nozzles!
Why?
one exhaust outlet is larger than the other.
ahh. so the right afterburner bank is open?
Ah yes... I see it now :(
sorry!
That must just be the angle of the shot, surely?
could well be. i shall look for more :)
this is an old one from the Algarve test
note to self: check before posting!
hehe. i'll fix :)
The nozzles look equal-sized and spaced there. There's something funny about the angle of the shot that Mr C. found.
just got in from uni to find grand prix 4 sitting on my doorstep, yay! Now to enjoy some f1 racing on my laptop, finally :)
Studying hard then? ;-)
You need to add a few season mods to it as well!
Thanks
The BMW has new mirror mounts, hasn't it?
A fine choice good sir!
wow. how far forward have they been pushed?
another pic, problem is the cameraman is sat in the same position:
Aww no, not more bargeboard mirrors!
to make up for the exhaust thing:
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/franck-and-le-seb-jpg
clearly the new black.
Franck has some hairdo!
Any idea where I can find them? As you can probabkly assume I have no idea...
Ask Scott, but I would suggest GrandPrixGames.org?
I're found a good 2008 now anyways and it has a few older seasons too so thanks nevertheless.
And as a Computing student I feel this applies to my studying. ;)
oh no, please tell me this isn't happening:
GREEN stripes??
Now now, green strips 100% show support for the environment and some other malarky!
In all seriousness, thsat doesnt look as bad as it did with the grooved tyres which was horrendous. Is the point of this strip going to show the tyre compound then?
i think so.
i prefer white. it's more neutral and less condescending .
you're right... the more i look at it, the more the green annoys me and you only posted it 7 minutes ago! :D
Champcars used Red, Purple and Blue I think. Firestone (same company as Bridgestone) seemed to have no problem painting the sidewalls for them, so I don't see why they couldn't do it for F1?
- not easier to see.
- doesn't stand out against black
- is a ridiculous statement for a tyre manufacturer (and the sport) to be making
I know somewhere there's a great 1991 mod for GP4.
Lukeh, are you up for a bit of Forza or GRID at all?
I'm playing with a friend at the mo who got Live today so I promised I'd play them for a bit. I'm available later though and I know Joe will play GRID later as well if you're up for it then?
Sure thing :D
I just want a decent desktop PC so bad. I have GTR2 sitting in my
I have GTR2 as well, but I think rFactor is better...
I want rFactor, Race 07, GT Legends and GTR Evolution. Maybe STCC: The Game as well.
Way to go to ruin Red Bull's livery. The green stripes didn't even look good on the Honda last year never mind the liveries that it will clash with.
Bourdais looks proper geeky.
We can see that the exhausts are the same size, but the bodywork cutout on the right is larger.
No idea why - infact from memor, that section of bodywork looks different from the launch pics.
(of the Renault)
Radio transmitter?
No F1 testing this year remember...
Ah, but if the McLaren are just under a second off the new Red Bull, then that puts them closer to the BMW than Toyota are, so I suggest it should go:
Red Bull, BMW, Ferrari, McLaren, Toyota, Williams, Renault
That Renault time - oh dear. The car is going like it looks.
Dude, that's like buying the same game 5 times! Just get rFactor and if you look hard enough, you can get nearly all the cars listed above...
I'm sure that's because of the angle of the picture. Look at the cutouts - the are cut out at an angle from the horizontal which makes one appear bigger than another from an angle.
Can somebody who knows photography have a look at the picture and give their opinion?
We know which character trait he would have in BATracer: 'The Thinker'...
I guess so. LOL
fun game. anyone else?
red bull have some kind of looney electronic pit board:
http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/photolarge.php?photoID=118024&catID=3772
I'll check BATracer when I get home - but I have a few ideas...
If it's not broke don't fix it. We've already seen electronic equipment go horribly wrong in the pitlane with ferrari that was unecessary, so i can't see the point in that.
I hope no-one spills brake fluid when they are topping it up in that Renault and I hope the electronics box doesn't overheat the brake fluid. Seems like unnecessary risks are being taken there to get weight forward.
I would guess they are just being careful with the new cars in the wet although the downforce difference will be exacerabted in the wet so maybe.
What was all this "Nascar is spectator friendly..." :P
http://www.autosport.com/gallery/photo.php/id/122492
It is a ridiculous statement for a tyre manufacturer who makes the tyres in Japan and ships them half way round the world to be making
Maybe testing it for Singapore
There are usually private games run on BATracer recreating the real life seasons, including everyone taking the relative names of drivers in the team they're running with from that year.
Num num num, I have a roast beef sarnie :P
Teams at Le Mans have been using electronic pit boards for years. Some teams even use a electric motor to swing the board out at the right moment.
Wondered how long it would take F1 to catch up.
That would be me then? (me not 'me')
I am looking at how close the cut out get to the edge of the grey area. The one on the right looks to get closer than the one on the left.
Ahh, good point.
SI Swimsuit Issue is out, BTW. Any Danica fans out there? ;)
Is she in it again???
It didn't do anything for me last time...
Some times from Bahrain after a two hour delay for fog (so not exactly avoiding the weather):
Massa - Ferrari - 1:33.656 - 38 laps
Kubica - BMW Sauber - 1:34.397 - 49 laps
Glock - Toyota - 1:34.589 - 39 laps
Yep, looks like it, seeing from the cover. Checking the SI site, though, to be sure.
Ferrari significantly ahead of BMW. Interesting.
How about Jerez?
And true enough, she is. To be fair, it looks better than her 2008 shoot. But not by much.
Times from Jerez: McLaren and Renault look like they've packed up for the afternoon just as the times are dropping so I wouldn't read too much into McLaren's position. Renault on the other hand just look awful, even in the wet it was more than 4 secs off what the RB5 was doing.
Buemi - Toro Rosso* - 1:19.660 (89 laps)
Vettel - Red Bull - 1:22.177 (40 laps)
Hulkenberg - Williams - 1:22.6749 (59 laps)
Kovalainen - McLaren - 1:23.313 (42 laps)
Piquet - Renault - 1:29.060 (13 laps)
Goodness me, this will get them into trouble with Alonso AND Ghosn. Or maybe their times just look awful because Alonso hadn;t driven the car yet?
might be.
They only did 13 laps though, so i wouldn't read much into them either!
:D
i see all cars still out on track?
so non-committal! :P
But why have they only done 13 laps? Maybe that should tell us there's a problem which is limiting their running?
He knows I'm watching.
Exactly, the might not be slow, just rubbish lol
shhhhh. i'll end up spending the night searching for pictures franck again.
gah!
This is hilarious. :P
they have. from rf1pp:
"Once again today has been compromised by the weather and we have had a few technical issues to solve, which have limited our track time. The result is that we are stuck in the garage, rather than racking up the miles – Nelson has only managed 15 laps. It’s frustrating as track time is precious, but sometimes testing is like that."
what more can we ask :)
And right on cue. At least Piquet can be relieved that he isn't the problem... for now. :D
But this is dangerous for Renault. More problems equals less running time. Less running time equals less speed. Less speed equals more problems. Vicious spiral there.
true enough. the weather is actually helping them in the sense that little could be learned in the morning anyways. better to have issues today, rather than the remaining three (which look to be dry).
So do I - but the session is red flagged so that can't be the case.
where are you getting this from? is there a live feed?
new paint scheme
new car
new #2 driver
not much then ;)
mind you, that same table says piquet is german, so y'know :)
mentioned earlier in the comments ^^^ up there somewhere. but:
http://directo.thef1.es/tests/
been watching all day. intend to watch all week :)
Piquet IS running again, a 1:24:108 is heading towards respectable - but still a lot more than "6 tenths" off.
ta, is there a video feed or is it just live timing?
Eva Mendes is very distracting!
trust me if there was video we'd be making a lot more fuss than this :)
shhhh. oh good grief.
looks like vettel caused the red flag.
Why, YES, she is VERY distracting! :D
Dry Sack?
yup :D
am assuming it's a corner name, rather than an indication of vettels condition.
English translation says that a car went off at Dry Sack, and they are indeed confirming it was Vettel. Either a driver error, or something broke in the car.
Newey must be hoping it's the former rather than the latter.
circuit map:
http://www.f3000.com/2003/2003_calendar/jerez_map.gif
although written as Drysack there.
cars in pits, track is green on one site, red on the other :)
Their lap count seems to be wrong at http://directo.thef1.es/tests/
www.motor21.com has Piquet on 24 laps the last time they updated times, and the others have done more too.
It is a type of Sherry which is rather appropriate given the location
"Green flag. The pilots returned to shooting."
f1 does wacky races?
is Buemi in the 2008 car or the 2009 car? I'm guessing the former?
Uh oh: Manu Cruz confirms that Vettel may have stopped on track due to a mechanical problem, possibly with its KERS.
But I thought James Allen said cars won't stop on track due to broken KERS?
Buemi in the 2008
Dry Sack is THE corner where Schumi and Villeneuve had their infamous collision. :D
Depends how broken it is
new car leads old car:
in bahrain, a bmw in trouble?
ahhh. didn't realise. cheers.
Ferrari are practicing pitstops with a lollipop, perhaps they're not going back to the lights afterall.
Perhaps... but maybe they're just keeping their new system under wraps until Australia?
If LDM said they'll use the lights in Australia, they WILL use the lights in Australia.
OK, I won't deny it - she looks hot in those pics.
Piquet improves to a 1:23.3. Still last, but now just 6 tenths behind Hulkenberg.
Indeed she does. Some people will think this is a big improvement over her 2008 shoot, but I liked that shoot as well, so the improvement isn't as big for me. :)
Last 5 minutes. Will anyone else make a final push?
Toyota made a final push in Bahrain, final times:
1. Glock - Toyota - 1:33.501 - 82 laps
2. Massa - Ferrari - 1:33.615 - 98 laps
3. Kubica - BMW Sauber - 1:33.702 - 95 laps
that was fun. same time, same place tomorrow then?
The answer is no. So Buemi tops the tables in a 2008 car, but it's Vettel who does the best among the 2009 cars. But that mechanical issue near the end would've worried him a bit.
BTW, I didn't know Jerez was the Spanish word for sherry. :)
Seems like Glock has rained on Ferrari's parade again. :D
But good showing from all 3 teams - the times look to be promising and competitive.
What am I saying? Nico made a final push to snatch 3rd from Heikki. What is it with Heikki, never seems to have enough pace?
What? Looking at Sports Illustrated? Can't you do that any time?
Sherry came from that region and the word Sherry is a corruption of Jerez. I think the have one of those EU name protection things so that only sherry from that region can be called sherry now.
I believe this to be the case (of Sherry).
Seems Heidfeld isn't testing at all this week. Kubica for three days with Klein taking over for Friday.
I think that is because he is behind in answering his blog comments
:D
Who wants testing footage from today?!?! :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbgQlmqKhvA
LCLT doesn't like me posting links :(
Evnin all
Bad news for Jenson fans according to DC
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7881013.stm
"You cannot say 100%, but it would be very difficult to imagine where he goes from there"
It's also my friends birthday on Saturday as well. Sadly
What. No, I only kill people. Kinda like Norman of Psycho, but less Psycho-ey.
Speaking of blogs, remember f1 waffle, the sauce of waffling in f1.
I want snazzy, bit of yellow, bit of dark green, bit of dark blue. Stuff like that, make it look mad and outrageous for a change.
Mr C walking around in circles I see
:(
I posted a link to that fabulous guy yossidlr and some footage of today's running from Jerez, but as I said, the LCLT didn't like it :(
I would revisit again, if you'd update it once in a while. Having said that, I really should do the same with mine...
You didn't notice the dodgy pun did you?
Me, you're in with the drop.io lot aren't you...
This looks interesting: http://drop.io/dropiolocation
:D
ooh, hello. nice one.
although i notice today the doohickey rollovers aren't working again. i think their api went though some changes or something. grr.
cheers, scott.
SPC is not first with baby KERS. A quarter of the way down the page baby KERS is mentioned.
http://forums.autosport.com/showthread.php?postid=3316367
i did see that. it literally is the only other reference on google if you search:
google.co.uk/sear...
also, somehow autosport have purged the beginning of that conversation. which is odd.
so i've created a drop:
http://drop.io/silverstone
and set the location. now if people look for drops while using their iphone at the circuit, they'll find that one.
kinda handy, but it doesn't really go far enough does it? i mean we would like to geolocate an asset, rather than a drop. so tag all the jerez pics and all the bahrain pics etc.
Autosport reporting Vettel stopped the car as a precaution due to a gearbox sensor failure.
I assume this means they asked him to stop because they were unable to monitor the gearbox so wouldn't have been aware of a problem, rather than having to stop because of a problem.
that's twice they've stopped a car due to supposed paranoia, it's getting a little suspicious isn't it?
If anyone cares, their is Celebrity Karting on Sky Sports Xtra from the NIC.
There's also rugby on, so I might watch that.
Giggles live commenting starts now!
Tonight I'm off to meet Bassano Clapper. One of the most secretive sidepodcasters there is!
I am in a train in London Bridge station waiting to depart. And in true sidepodcast style I am already late :)
And we're off. Our train is overtaking the one on the next platform which has stalled (or rather doesn't depart for 10 mins - trains Ed)
We are now pulling in to South Bermondsy. How very exciting!
No-one is here for this momentus occasion?
Oh well. We have now arrived at Queens Road Peckham. Only two stops to go.
Or is it only one stop? I mean the second stop is the one I get off at. Is that a stop in this sense? Who knows?
I'm here. It's very exciting.
Best put my shoes on then!
There is only one stop to go if you are getting off at the one after that. :)
Oh good :)
i am :)
sorry i'm late.
Peckham Rye now!
I will wiki it later for posterity too.
:D
I knew you'd know :)
5 - 7 mins walk from train station
Thanks coach number three of four you've been a great help :) I'm here now!
Some times I am a bit slow on the uptake. Steve Nichols who left McLaren to go to NASCAR ?? is American so ideally suited to a USF1 team. I can't believe it has taken me this long to remember.
http://www.grandprix.com/gpe/cref-nicste.html
And how weird will it be for me being live commented on, being part of and contributing to the conversation but not seeing the doohickey and typing responses
Right then, Guinness time.
Giggles if you want to order, you'll have to do it by text. I'm going offline :D
BTW: Green Hoodie
It hasn't even begun yet!
And lets be fair, a bedroom is hardly a pub.
It took me a moment to get my bearings. But i'm walking on Grove Vale now.
That's true
What shall I order? Whatever you decide I will have!
Ralf got the DTM drive
Do you have a link Kathi?
Ooh can see place.
Was on the news on TV. I'll check if I can find sth written
Thanks Kathi. That means Paul di Resta is not doing DTM and McLaren/Mercedes have another program for him which is very interesting
When they said the drive would go to either di Resta or Ralf did they know already that Schneider was going to retire?
I'm sorry I got the tenses all mixed up, but I hope it's still comprehensible.
Your tenses are fine.
A few weeks ago Mercedes announced all their drivers for the new cars with one seat still vacant. They said that seat would be di Resta's unless he had a GP" or F1 program in which case Ralf would get moved up to a new car from a two year old car.
GP2 not GP"
is there a menu?
We are having some beer :)
So what does this mean for Di Resta? Force India testing role?
No idea. USF1? A years testing for USF1 in a year old McLaren?
can you convince bassano to buy an iphone?
It is happening in may
w00t!
Menus sent to Christine's
Elderflower spritzer! That sounds exotic :)
you know you can email to drop.io right?
[email protected]
pictures, text, whatever. from any machine, not just your mobile.
No I didn't! Cool!
I have dropped the evidence! :)
That's Bassano drinking Guiness and I'm drinking the elderflower!
How is it?
It's very... Um... Girly :)
We have just discovered that this place has free Wifi! W00t!
one pint simply isn't going to cut it, is it?
If you want to drive a F1 car, come to Finland in August. It costs 'only' €1850 for 4 laps. You can drive a Renault 2004, Arrows 2003, Jordan 2002.
Bassano and I may have had more than one pint!
But he still doesn't know!
he didn't read the answer in the comments??
The evidence is clear:
You use Apple products,
You drink girly drinks,
You... You're a writer aren't you? :-)
Excellent!
Bossano has e-mailed a comment I think!
It will be only worth a pork scratching in my opinion
Ah-ha! It reads:
"Giggles drinks update: back on the Amstel, feels much better for it"
There are a few companies on quite a few coutries that let you do it. There was one that for two seasons let you drive an F1 car round Spa but then they stopped.
It's all done. He knows the truth.
We have hardly talked F1 we have mainly talked about all you lovely people.
Uh oh, quick. Everyone on their best behaviour.
Eeep.
I can explain...
have i ever mentioned what an absolute star bassano is?
Hehe.
And that Giggles is a riot.
Two best posters on spc without a doubt...
he's gotta be the funniest here. 'cept for bassano of course.
I just remembered that I didn't thank Giggles for asking all those questions on the sidepodchat and helping me explain my points. How remiss of me?
:D
:D
Aye, most certainly indeed idontthinkicankeepthisupanymore
Well you've all redeemed yourselves! Others though... ;)
Would you spend £2 million on a giant horse?
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/4/20090210/tuk-giant-horse-is-angel-of-the-south-dba1618.html
Phew. And relax...
The country has gone mad!
Now at least the Angel of the North makes logical sense.
No, I'd spend it on ~1080 laps in a F1 car :)
Am consistently staggered by the quality of writing at SofaF1, you know.
i really do, yeah. which is your most favourite post?
What we now need to hear from Alex is if Bassano feels disappointed by his new-found knowledge :)
Have parted company now. In a cab. I wonder how much trouble I am in for being late?
I would say he was non-plussed.
We made the connection to Me's secret identity, and concluded that it was better not to know some things :)
He, he, am thinking Giggles should start live commenting his night to Mrs Giggles so she knows when to expect him home.....
Or maybe not, on second thoughts
It was not worth the pint it was spoken on, but a pint is a pint.
No's 2 & 3 made it more palatable I s'pose :D
He has a secret identity as well as his real one? There's more to me than I thought :)
I have sent a text. I wonder if I'll get a reply before I get home.
To be fair, she has met me before!
:D
Do you mean you or Mr C ? :D
That eldiflower thing really helped me spill the beans.
I mean me me not him me :)
Is it some sort of alcopop then?
So, we are thinking of extending the SidePodcast drinking club but maybe only at a member at a time, what do you say Giggles?
And as for the Elderflower Spritzer, it's a good job he stayed off the Black Sambucca Chilli Mojitos
:D
Christine suggested it, am thinking it would have been more 'manly' from ME
Bassano you really do live close.
Really, really
It could only get more local if 'the clappers' had an open day
Unless he was lying about having an iPhone..
:D
Am home and am making dinner. No trouble so far :)
Managing not to sway too much then...
Giggles and I were making some SPC predictions that will or will not come to fruitition around the start of the season.
We came to the same conclusions independantly (s'ok they were all positive)
We'll let you know how it reflected real time in early April, I guess
Sounds intriguing...
Good to hear
Andy: He was doing alright on an empty stomach.
There may be some Irish Blood in him :D
One for me, how long before I ditch the new look and go back to brackets?
?
?
???
I say to hell with the maths (oh no!) and return to the bracketry.
It's what R.G. does
intriguing is not the word, no.
Yes, it was very Mystic at times
Nah, btw, no dots anymore ;)
Next name change and i'll be called 'R' or something like that.
what is the right word? scary? frightening? worrying?
Dare I ask what the word would be?
can you give us clue? i can offer you a... pint... oh
Noted :)
I this the new, concise RG?
As long as it's not the 1st, 2nd or 3rd :D
(and you pick up the travel bill :) )
worrying
Hey I never signed up to not swaying ;)
Giggles, I think we have the power - for now
Just be careful of chairs.
Ahhhhhh, I'm on the interwebz
I'd tell my mum if only she would grasp the concept.
It'd be like explaining Back To The Future to a hamster. (Or maybe the '09 engine usage rules)
If you were a proper stalker you would be able to tell us
Ah ha! I was right.
I'm on Ollie-day! Besides, I'm only part-time. :)
in fairness you had most of them covered ;)
what time?
Most of it! :)
And it's about ten past nine.
:D
I think this is worthy of the Comments of the Year Wiki
Can someone oblige, my short-term memory is back in Liquorish?
:D
By the way, I need to say two things before I forget. And I will forget before Sunday. The first is that PETN is an explosive (and part of a thesis I had to read).
The second is that I didn't realise how bad it sounded until I said it out loud. It is genuinely referenced (mostly) on my site if you search. Perhaps the word "pub" would have been better, but like I said, I didn't realise until afterwards. Let's just say, the apostrophe is quite important.
I have made a choritzo, broccoli and courgette pasta dish and suddenly I turned to Katherine and said... "Oh no we have no cheese" she said... "Oh yeah that's right... I have some in my handbag!"
That's my girl :)
I'm more concerned that you made that it such a short time
Cheese in a handbag pales into insignificance
It's amazing what ladies keep in their handbags. Just astounding. :D
I am a speed chef! Takeaways have nothing on me!
(to be fair it took 15 mins)
Ollie, which apostrophe are you referring to?
Bassano... Actually based on the reaction tonight... You could say one of the predictions we discussed has started already...
And you didn't live comment it :D
The one in team 158 in the Fantasy Racers SPC League,
oh come on!
Hehe. Talbot Rothwell would be proud.
Don't start, Mr Super-Elusive :D
rats
RG whittering on about himself again? Nice guy though.
He wrote those things on purpose though. Mine was entirely accident.
One of them...
you have got to be kidding.
no chance.
rofl, lmao, etc
nope.
It wouldn't have been 15 mins if I had!
Well, I thought so but it would understandable if it were omitted from the roll call
Is there a way of changing team names. Seriously, I really didn't notice until afterwards. I can't see a way of deleting or editing, but if you know of a way, please tell.
[Ollie realises his social scene has been exposed? :D]
danny!
that sometimes works :)
What social scene? I'm always in front a monitor fiddling with code and swearing lots.
http://wiki.sidepodcast.com/page/The+un-mentionables
If anyone gets Aitch's attention, can you persuade him to pin himself on the SidePodMap, please
Danny, if you're around, feel free to change it to Blogger's Dog Racing. If you're not around, I'll shoot you an email tomorrow morning.
That's good, sofa king, :)
Maybe you sleepwalk and your typing fingers know about it?
For the record: http://blogf1.co.uk/?s=blogger%27s+dog&x=0&y=0&=Go
ahhh, ok :)
Oops...
Still, the un-mentionable will go down in history whereas the truth will not
By the way Giggles, Sunday = the next Great Booze Up Edmond
And it is an afternoon start so relatively safe ;)
It was a genuine "just add the word Inn and we're away." Didn't mean to cause a kerfuffle (although a small part of me did giggle at the thought of it being read out). If it isn't changed by tomorrow I'll contact Danny at the site.
much fun all the same.
penta erithritol tetranitrate if I am not mistaken.
I am sure I saw him on there. Gigles is still in the USA as well.
giggles' american cousin?
I think he was live commenting whist watching a travel show and got confused
http://www.formula1.com/news/features/2009/2/8907.html
formula1.com has a nice article on Francois Cevert.
Yeah, you're right. British Columbia isn't near Clapham after all.
TS writes Jean Todt will leave Ferrari in March for good
So, what was the deal in the Ted Kravitz reveal in my absence knowing I'd lined up the perfect Jeffrey Archer scenario? :D
For the FIA? (as long as it's not Max again!)
You think Todt would be better???
??
Than Max, absolutely
Best, no way!
Yeah, 'cos they'd be no Ferrari bias with Todt. No, none at all. :P
Breadcrumbs to the reveal after the Debrief yesterday, so I hear
how much did you drink?
;)
Don't mock me sir, I have your identity close at hand :D
Luckily I am a man of honour :)
Could it possibly be worse?
"Ferrari, you will go on my first whistle. Everyone else, you will go on my second whistle."?
Did you find it a letdown, because I sure did. Not worth the hassle
:D
:D
quick question for anyone who is around. is identi.ca broken for you or is it just me?
Well, as I was drinking at the time, I'd have to say it was worth the excuse of a few pints on a Tues evening
But, then, that doesn't take much
And so am I hence the lack of reveal on my part ;)
Completely broken for me as well. Was about to ask the same. :)
I get:
THIS PAGE CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING ERRORS:
error on line 76 at column 1241: Specification mandate value for attribute idDB_DataObject
BELOW IS A RENDERING OF THE PAGE UP TO THE FIRST ERROR.
so yeah me too
[Andy reveals himself as a Gladiator fan... doh!]
completely screwed:
"DB_DataObject Error: Connect failed, turn on debugging to 5 see why"
So yes. Just to be clear nobody's secret identity was revealed tonight except Ted and Bassano's.
Just opened twhirl and it is totally blank
Giggles iPhone had too many Elderflower Spritzers
I blame Christine, this time
Ollie I'm glad you didn't go for the Dog and Duck Inn
- too late
ah okay. thanks. puts the cherry on my rather rubbish evening really,
And Ted's, apparently, was no longer a secret
;)
just to save me getting all excited or anything, before i check the rest of my feeds, is the only honda news DC's comments?
wassup lou?
Okay night everyone...
I used to blame Steven Roy... Now I blame Bassano Clapper :)
It's for the best :)
twirl just kicked into lfe
night alex.
Phew.
.
.
Oops
Night Alex.
:D
Ah. Good point. Jet was my favourite :)
So, you were a teenager back then too? ;)
I liked Gladiators as well, but didn't have a favourite gladiator as such.
(I was still learning how to talk back then...)
I have just remembered this from 2DTV:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCX-jeq3dc4
No.
i've had a fall out with a friend. well i say friend, but we are not really that close. for some reason she is upset and angry with and i can't work out why, which upsets me and could do without it at the moment. Plus i've spent alot of the evening trying to do some coding for my access project for ict. I hate coding i just don't get on with it at all.
But young enough to be watching Gladiators for Jet?
[am trying to help you out here!]
Darn, that got moderated... or just lost
Lou: To coin a phrase "It's good to talk"
With luck, the next day will bring some perspective for all parties and all will get sorted
Might as well hit the wall now. Night
Night RG (without brackets)
Well stop it then. ;)
Then do without it for the moment. It's hard to offer advice to someone who hasn't asked and probably doesn't want :P but what I've learned in life so far is that it is their problem until they specifically make it you problem (and then, it's still Steven's fault). Cheer up, concentrate on the ICT and give us a big smile. :) And you know the community is here to help with any Access queries. *shudder, Access, shudder*
LOL at (and then, it’s still Steven’s fault)
hopefully. tbh i'm sure the friendship will work itself out eventually. but thanks :)
It generally does and if not then you're aware of where you stand
(to be read with Ollie's post in mind which contains wise words)
Anyway...
But I do remember Jet! :)
Did you guys ever work out what the thing on the underside of the RB5's nose was?
:) lol
:) well i have a tutorial with my ict teacher tomorrow, failing that i may be on here begging for help. It's partly my fault, if i didn't have the adventurous ideas for it then it'd all be fine. I mean honestly, who would have thought creating a database for a theatre company would have been difficult :P
thanks you both you and Ollie :) very wise words indeed. :)
Ah, it's the Sidepodcast way :)
haha :)
But are you allowed to live comment tutorials?
Why not? It's ICT after all! Live commenting it sounds perfect! :)
BTW Christine: If you haven't heard, the Elderflower Spritzer was a bit girly
(Not exactly front page news huh?)
Good point, turn the discussion/lesson on it's head with you realtime doohickey interactiveness
Ah. I suppose the name should have been our first clue.
I've a couple of comments in moderation - links to YouTube
Short version: it's a sensor.
Long version: it's a speed sensor. In fact one of these: http://www.corrsys-datron.com/Support/Data_Sheets/Datasheets-Sensors/cds-d_SFII-P-racing_e.pdf
Ta. :)
You picked it, he was a slave to the live comments at the time
[he got over it :D]
Some teams seem to run a laser ride height sensor there but this was a roughly tear drop shape so I guess it is being used as a flow conditioner as well.
I blame Steven.
That's a lot of words for a tire slip angle
Still funny :D
I'm blaming Giggles for actually ordering it
http://drop.io/sidepodcast/asset/photo-3
haha i'm hoping my teacher will talk me through how to do it by doing it and me watching. lol or at least giving me a nice step by step guide. we haven't really been thought how to use access (only really in yr 9 which was about 3 years ago and it was basic stuff) so we've kinda get tought what we need as we go.
hehe that would be awesome. unfortunatly the school which runs ie6 doesn't like the doohickey, or even the main site. Only the lclt works. plus the ict technicians refused to unblock f1break the other day. i was not happy. I had nothing to do in that free and was gonna write a post. As it was i got dragged away to go help a teacher.
What about ye olde comments type thing?
yeah i can kinda use them. but the site never has any layout/format or anything, it's just white with black writing. bit annoying. so i tend to use lclt cause it's quicker.
bit of an internal debate raging here at spc hq as to the merit of this:
http://www.f1minute.com/category/f1-big-picture/
christine has always said, in fact insisted, that if the big picture is to sit on f1minute.com, it should be relevant to the content within the podcast. which seems fair enough.
today the the show was about testing:
http://www.f1minute.com/2009/02/10/10-feb-09-glock-and-buemi-lead-day-1-of-testing/
so the pic should've been related. except i found a good picture of ron dennis after the podcast was done, and have been campaigning all evening to use that instead.
i finally won out, but i'm not sure the girl is at all impressed about it. anyhow, please take a look at the picture, if only so i feel it was worth the hassle.
apparantly ron's been in paris with lewis chatting about cars (what else). haven't seen it reported much elsewhere either, so, y'know stop reading this and go look... please?
Ron looks a little scary there. nice photo though.
It's an interesting picture of Ron. Very shallow depth of field - his right eye is in focus but his left is not.
It depends on your criteria, I guess
For me, the big picture is relevant to the latest news
This one, is - kinda. But not to the F1M of the day. Personally I don't mind as long as the content is good
That's not to say it should be as oblique every day IMHO
Ronspeak diverts the focus
[good spot btw]
:)
sorted sorry.
Possible tenuous link
circuit head says Turkey could lose F1
you found the actual sensor?
I agree. The choice of picture should sometimes be a bit less obvious - for example today you might expect a picture from the testing, but testing happens on multiple days. The picture of Ron is a one-off, so merits being used over testing pics.
damn. i wish i'd thought of that!
Isn't that why we live comment? :)
yeah. it kinda felt mean to get you guys to gang up on the girl though.
No, I meant after the fact based on the merits of the post or supposition. How you guys react to that is how SPC evolves
ahh, yes. tis very true and the next time it comes up we can keep that in mind.
i guess christine's argument might be that she should have at least mentioned the ron story in the podcast, even if only briefly at the end.
And I believe we would be (for the most part) fairly dismissive of your preferences and express our feelings when requested, not being based on 'taking sides'
Again, see previous post
Sometimes, a picture does speak a thousand words and there is only a minute.
A relevant point though but I like Andy's comment earlier
also v.true.
No, matter. Is good that that it provokes discussion which makes it the place that it is
Must hit the sack, early bird tomorrow
Next time we might agree with Christine :)
are we panelling again? ;)
night bassano.
Depends on how much 'energy drink' he's had
Buone Notte
Goodnight, Bassano.
I hadn't realised DC's Museum closed in January, that's a shame.
I thought it was opening again. Seems a strange idea to close it as soon as he retires.
i'm not sure it's to do with D retiring, in fact from what i have read on the site, it looks like the lady who runs it can no longer continue to for personal reasons. So it's closed until further notice.
I hadn’t realised DC’s Museum closed in January, that’s a shame. {lou - comment #484}
It is a pity. It would have been a good place to visit. Explains why Autosport ended up getting the entire car collection for the duration of the show, but I hope someone is in a position to open the DC museum soon.
blimey, miro's had something of a refresh:
http://www.getmiro.com/
It's been there for a few days now, Surrey BC Canada, although I'm not to keen about that pin placement.
Nice sheep :)
