It's been a week of shocks at SW19, with plenty of big names dropping out - either due to poor performance, injury, or a little bit of both. The ladies' draw has a path mostly open for Serena Williams to take another trophy, whilst the men's looks set for a highlight match between Djokovic and Murray, as the other top seeds keep falling by the way side. For British fans, we have two players into the second week, with stat-fans pointing out it's the first time since 1998.

    hi

two big matches on at the same time, might get a sore thumb flicking through the channels.

of course im going for 'aussie' laura tonight and also sabine lisicki, probably the only one who can match serenas power in the other match.

  • john01/07/2013 at 12:31

plenty of golfers at the Williams v Lisicki match, ian poulter, ernie els, jack nicholaus... well at least three.

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 12:44

    didn't realise. now i'm torn!

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 12:51

    first set tie-break for robson.

  • Christine01/07/2013 at 12:52

Keeping a surreptitious eye on the beeb live text. Games don't seem quite so long when you're watching, rather than waiting for an update :)

  • john01/07/2013 at 12:53

wohoo sabine breaks serenas serve, up 4-2 in the first

  • john01/07/2013 at 12:54

    shot laura.

  • john01/07/2013 at 12:55

nice shot , I should say

  • john01/07/2013 at 12:56

ooh did that bounce before the net

  • john01/07/2013 at 12:57

what a return on set point..........

  • john01/07/2013 at 12:58

yes first set to sabine wohoo 6-2

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 12:58

yes first set to sabine wohoo 6-2

    wha? amazing.

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 12:59

    doh!

robson threw away a 5-2 advantage. one set down.

  • john01/07/2013 at 13:00

    wha? amazing.

she is matching the Williams power, serena is a little rattled but will step up now in the second I think.

  • john01/07/2013 at 13:15

well serena up 4-1 in the second, that happened pretty quick.

  • john01/07/2013 at 13:26

serena takes the second set, come on sabine..

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 13:38

robson in a bit of trouble. needs to break to save the match.

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 13:44

5th match point. surely all over?

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 13:45

job done. laura had no fight in the 2nd set. first was close, but after that it went downhill.

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 14:08

    crowd really behind lisicki

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 14:11

williams looses her footing twice running for the ball but gets it over. not graceful, but effective.

  • john01/07/2013 at 14:12

unbelievable match, come on sabine...serve it out

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 14:15

    match point for lisicki!

    hi

what a tourney this year. I think sabine can go all the way, her game suits the grass.

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 14:22

awww, sabine loses it during the interview.

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 14:23

i'm not getting much work done, but wow it's worth it.

You have a good enough excuse, it's Wimbles!! :)

I'm really sad i've not been able to watch as much of it as i'd like, but it's been a big week for me, and luckily every single match i've caught has been a great one :)

Lets just hope muzza's match is straight forward :)

  • lou01/07/2013 at 16:06

oh goodness, i pop out for a bit and he has a disaster of a set. Muzza, come on!

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 16:07

    radwanska match point.

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 16:07

    done.

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 16:16

    don't panic.

  • Lukeh01/07/2013 at 16:24

oh goodness, i pop out for a bit and he has a disaster of a set. Muzza, come on!

That might be my fault, I came home from work and he started losing games almost immediately. Luckily I'm heading back out to football now so that should allow him to start winning again

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 16:35

    2nd set for murray.

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 16:35

hard to argue against that evidence ;)

  • Steven Roy01/07/2013 at 16:37

    2nd set for murray.

Left work having been told by our tennis expert that he was going to lose the second set. Got in to find he only needed one point for the set. What a great place to pick up the coverage

Amazing statement from Andy Murray. He has not played a left handed player all year. His next opponent is left handed

  • Christine01/07/2013 at 18:07

Right, I'm here. I think I missed quite a lot today!

  • Mr C01/07/2013 at 18:08

    :D

  • Steven Roy01/07/2013 at 18:27

I watched his game on Saturday. In 3 sets he only lost 4 points on his serve to the world number 25

  • Lukeh01/07/2013 at 18:37

lukeh, you can come back now.

    see? I helped.

  • Steven Roy01/07/2013 at 18:38

Djokovich just broke him back. Didn't take long

  • Christine01/07/2013 at 18:39

Yea, I mean, I don't want to overdo it, but he's quite good.

  • Steven Roy01/07/2013 at 18:50

  • lou01/07/2013 at 18:52

my sky has now frozen trying to turn on the red button again, which means i can only hear the match. grrr bbc...

  • Steven Roy01/07/2013 at 19:01

Djokovic fell awkwardly on his hand. Looking at his wrist as if it is painful.

Served and won the next point though

  • Steven Roy01/07/2013 at 19:13

Djokovic has this in the bag now. Broke Haas again and now 5-2 up in the last set.

  • Steven Roy01/07/2013 at 19:24

Haas broke him again. Djokovic was serving for the match.

    Djokovich is looking decidedly human

  • Christine01/07/2013 at 19:27

    Djokovich is looking decidedly human

Half-human, half-hulk. The evidence is stacking up.

  • Steven Roy01/07/2013 at 19:37

Tie break now. If Haas wins this they may not get the match finished tonight

  • Steven Roy01/07/2013 at 19:45

Djokovic wins it at last on the tie break. He made very hard work of that.

  • Steven Roy01/07/2013 at 19:48

Points for Djokovic. He just gave a fan his towel

  • Christine01/07/2013 at 19:51

Points for Djokovic. He just gave a fan his towel

No points for that kind of thing. Yeugh!

  • Steven Roy01/07/2013 at 19:53

No points for that kind of thing. Yeugh!

The fan asked for it. Boris Becker was impressed he did it

  • Amy02/07/2013 at 14:34

for selfish reasons I hope that W. Trongcharoenchaikul either never becomes a successful senior, or has a really short snappy nickname.

  • Christine02/07/2013 at 17:14

for selfish reasons I hope that W. Trongcharoenchaikul either never becomes a successful senior, or has a really short snappy nickname.

I would really enjoy Sue Barker trying to say that though.

  • lou02/07/2013 at 17:50

loved watching Lisicki play today! She's just so smiley! :)

  • Christine02/07/2013 at 18:01

Poor Kvitova knocked out, she did not look at all well at the end.

  • Christine02/07/2013 at 18:07

    Bartoli plays really weird.

  • Steven Roy02/07/2013 at 19:19

Poor Li Na/Na Li. Had a serve called out that would have won her the first set that was really in and didn't challenge it. Then lost in straight sets. Her opponent had a load of tape applied to her thigh in the second set so who knows what would have happened had they gone to three sets.

  • Lukeh02/07/2013 at 19:46

Waiting for Luther to start with some mansour bahrami in the doubles. so good.

  • lou03/07/2013 at 12:58

Oh my goodness that Delpo fall looked painful!

  • Mr C03/07/2013 at 13:15

1st set to djokovic. went to a tie-break though.

  • john03/07/2013 at 13:17

djokovic and berdych in a tight first set, I really hope that djokovic and del potro win tonight

  • Mr C03/07/2013 at 14:27

    del potro goes through.

  • Mr C03/07/2013 at 14:28

hehe. ferrer is a tiny, tiny man.

...or del potro is quite tall.

  • john03/07/2013 at 14:28

    what a point to win.

  • Mr C03/07/2013 at 14:29

  • lou03/07/2013 at 16:01

wow. you can't buy that kind of luck.

  • Amy03/07/2013 at 16:02

hahaha I was just hoping it would be Nole that went before Andy

  • Mr C03/07/2013 at 16:04

    Verdasco is left handed.

  • Mr C03/07/2013 at 16:05

Rafa would win everything and it'd fold from sheer boredom after one season.

Although hes fake left handed, maybe they wouldn't let him in.

  • lou03/07/2013 at 16:08

Stop getting all grumpy Andy!! Pull yourself together!

  • lou03/07/2013 at 16:08

ahh lou, i remember when we were at the Olympics and I was so excited about seeing Fernando and then when we got to him he looked like

and I was so annoyed at his hair we left after about 5 minutes. Good times.

  • Amy03/07/2013 at 16:10

I am not watching this match because on Saturday night we turned on Verdasco vs Gulbis and he was doing really well and I said 'what happened to Fernando Double Fault Verdasco?' to my friend, upon which remark he promptly double faulted.

  • lou03/07/2013 at 16:11

Based on one point I think it just took Murray a bit to get to grips with Verdasco because unbelieavbly he hasn't played a single left hander all year

  • lou03/07/2013 at 17:03

  • Steven Roy03/07/2013 at 17:03

he has the stamina and fitness for this match, think long rally's are good cause they'll only tire Fernando out quicker ;)

  • Steven Roy03/07/2013 at 17:17

    YES

    Broke him

  • lou03/07/2013 at 17:17

    YES!!!

  • Steven Roy03/07/2013 at 17:23

Great point. No way should Murray have gotten near that

  • Lukeh03/07/2013 at 17:25

Come on andy, serve for the set

  • lou03/07/2013 at 17:28

    Woooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

  • Lukeh03/07/2013 at 17:28

    hurrah!

  • Steven Roy03/07/2013 at 17:29

We need a nice early break of serve. Preferably in game 1

  • Lukeh03/07/2013 at 17:34

ah, I see the predictable scottish/british nonsense that surrounds Murray has already begun on twitter

  • Mr C03/07/2013 at 17:35

ah, I see the predictable scottish/british nonsense that surrounds Murray has already begun on twitter

what percentage is he right now?

  • Steven Roy03/07/2013 at 17:35

ah, I see the predictable scottish/british nonsense that surrounds Murray has already begun on twitter

You always get that nonsense. People on the radio this morning were saying that the British and Irish Lions should be re-named Dragons because there are so many Welshmen in the team

  • Steven Roy03/07/2013 at 17:36

what percentage is he right now?

    93%

    http://andymurrayometer.com/

  • Lukeh03/07/2013 at 17:36

what percentage is he right now?

    100% tiresome ;)

  • Steven Roy03/07/2013 at 17:38

Boris is right. Murray is allowing Verdasco to have the initiative too much. Needs to dominate more

  • Mr C03/07/2013 at 17:38

    93%

    perfect :)

  • Steven Roy03/07/2013 at 17:40

Why does Sue Barker keep saying that? Anyone who hasn't figured out that this isn't the news is not going to understand her anyway

  • Lukeh03/07/2013 at 17:41

Why does Sue Barker keep saying that? Anyone who hasn't figured out that this isn't the news is not going to understand her anyway

She's trying to get as much screen time before she goes back into hibernation until the SPOTY

  • lou03/07/2013 at 18:19

yeah, andrew castle. With how this tournament has gone so far, I wouldn't start saying a novak-murray final just yet

I fancy an Andy vs Delpo final myself :)

  • lou03/07/2013 at 18:26

  • Lukeh03/07/2013 at 18:32

I fancy an Andy vs Delpo final myself :)

I was impressed with his win today, especially after that first game injury. Looked bad

  • john04/07/2013 at 09:35

I fancy an Andy vs Delpo final myself :)

djokovic will run del potro around in the first set, not sure if his knee will hold up. on his day del potro is good enough but I think that knee injury will be enough and djokovic will be too strong.

anyway I must say lets hope the winner comes from that match, I know this is a very pro british site so this might be my last post before I get banned but geez, that murray is just so impossible to like, I tried but I cant, come on djokovic, please win, please for the love of humanity.

  • Mr C04/07/2013 at 10:38

  • Mr C04/07/2013 at 13:42

bartoli dominated the first semi, now im hoping for sabine to get through in the second semi.

    gave up on that one.

    go radwanska :)

  • john04/07/2013 at 13:46

    go radwanska :)

really I like both of them, but after backing sabine to beat serena the other night, at the handy odds of $11, ill have to stick with sabine for the rest of the tourney.

I think this will be a much more competitive match than the last one.

  • Mr C04/07/2013 at 13:49

I think this will be a much more competitive match than the last one.

i've never seen a player strapped up as much as radwanska today.

  • john04/07/2013 at 14:16

first set to sabine, a little too much power for radwanska, so far.

  • Mr C04/07/2013 at 14:17

first set to sabine, a little too much power for radwanska, so far.

yeah, not as one-sided as the previous match, but i can't see it lasting much longer :)

  • john04/07/2013 at 14:18

oh big first game in the second set. sabine gets a handy break.

  • Mr C04/07/2013 at 14:23

  • john04/07/2013 at 14:51

  • Mr C04/07/2013 at 14:51

    into a third we go.

    amazing. bring it :)

  • john04/07/2013 at 14:53

radwanska looking more composed, sabine was all over the place after that first break of serve.

  • Mr C04/07/2013 at 15:01

    ooops!

  • john04/07/2013 at 15:02

  • Mr C04/07/2013 at 15:12

  • john05/07/2013 at 16:32

well I just had a little snooze, thought Id have a look to see if its still going and now its 3-2 in the fifth, I had a feeling del potro would struggle with his knee injury but it looks like he is moving alright.

  • Christine05/07/2013 at 16:35

Djokovic is really like "What do I have to do???"

  • Mr C05/07/2013 at 16:35

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 18:05

I don't like how the tiebreak has started

  • Will^05/07/2013 at 18:05

The Murrays supporters in the crowd seem quiet

The Poles seem to be doing a good job of clapping.

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 18:07

Murray is taking the initiative in the rallies a lot more than he did against Verdasco

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 18:10

This was not how it was planned

  • lou05/07/2013 at 18:10

    oh muzza :(

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 18:30

I think they need to go and find Wednesday night's crowd. They were much more into it

  • Will^05/07/2013 at 18:31

I think they need to go and find Wednesday night's crowd. They were much more into it

I think the length of the match before while there were all waiting for this one has taken it out of them.

  • Mr C05/07/2013 at 18:31

I think the length of the match before while there were all waiting for this one has taken it out of them.

also, was bloody hot out there.

...until people need to loo :)

    A commode under every seat?

  • lou05/07/2013 at 18:35

They should have Pimms taps on the back of every seat

yes!!!! like the taps of fizzy water in yo sushi!!

  • Mr C05/07/2013 at 18:35

During the breaks in play? (That's why I prefer indoors sport)

watching at home is so much more sensible. tablet can follow you to the fridge.

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 18:36

yes!!!! like the taps of fizzy water in yo sushi!!

    Never been to Yo sushi

  • Mr C05/07/2013 at 18:36

    really?

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 18:37

Exactly. If I was there I could not be eating, drinking, watching the progress of my online football manager game and watching tennis too.

That could easily be incorporated into the back of a tennis seat along with a credit card reader

  • lou05/07/2013 at 18:40

    wow. need!

yes! i was so excited when i saw them. It's like £1 but it's unlimited refill.. Wimbles could easily have a similar system.

ah yeah, of course. even if it was a charged per glass system. was just using them as an example.

although, half of the fun of pimms is the strawbs! how would you get the fruit?!

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 18:41

they need a conveyor of strawberry's trundling around too.

Needs an extra tap for cream

    3rd pipe for the fruit.

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 18:49

you're driving all the way from scotland, walking round goodwood, and then driving back... all in one day????

No. Drive most of the way down Saturday and stay somewhere overnight. Then Sunday morning drive to Goodwood using all the shortcuts I know though Chichester. Then drive a couple of hours from Chichester on Sunday night. Then Monday I think I will do Donington because I haven't been there in years

Are they warming them up, in case they are required later?

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 18:52

Are they warming them up, in case they are required later?

Those look like the kind of lights that warm up slowly but I don't think you can run them on part current. You have to let them come on properly or switch them off

  • Mr C05/07/2013 at 18:53

    nice one.

Bet you get good discount on a second hand 3D camera that has been left outside in all weather

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 18:58

Finally Murray punished one of those drop shots.

Weird combination being a big server and playing loads of drop shots

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 18:58

    Got him with the lob

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:04

Two aces in a row from Murray. 15-40 to deuce

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:04

    3 aces in a row

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:05

performance of a grand slam champ :)

  • lou05/07/2013 at 19:09

    too dark for him?

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:09

Why is this guy spending all his time discussing the roof?

  • Will^05/07/2013 at 19:09

Why is this guy spending all his time discussing the roof?

    Love it, he's unsettled.

  • lou05/07/2013 at 19:11

i suppose the time it would take to close the roof and get the court atmosphere settled again would be just a bonus to this guy ;)

  • Will^05/07/2013 at 19:12

    Catch!

  • lou05/07/2013 at 19:13

    oh gosh!

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:15

    Weird match

Murray has more aces than the big server

Murray has just lobbed a huge guy for the second time.

Murray is losing out on ground shots and touch shots

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:22

Murray has complained to the umpire that the Pole was talking during the point.

  • lou05/07/2013 at 19:24

    come on Muzza! break back!

  • lou05/07/2013 at 19:24

    Kim is so cute :)

  • lou05/07/2013 at 19:25

    YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:25

Murray has figured out the drop shot and is scoring off them now

  • lou05/07/2013 at 19:25

awww Andy is so good at cheering the crowd on.

  • lou05/07/2013 at 19:26

    ohhh the Pole is grumpy....

  • lou05/07/2013 at 19:27

now he's back on about the roof. lol

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:27

awww Andy is so good at cheering the crowd on.

It's something sportsmen don't seem to understand. They have to do something to get the crowd going and then the crowd will back them all the way.

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:28

    Aced it. 4-4 Game on

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:28

    Aced it. 4-4 Game on

    Jumped the gun. 40-0

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:28

    Now 4-4

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:29

Interesting that as soon as Murray winds up the crowd and they respond the BBC decide to cut to the hill for the first time

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:30

Bad time for a double fault

  • lou05/07/2013 at 19:31

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:31

  • Will^05/07/2013 at 19:39

To all those on CC, now is Pimms-o'clock.

  • lou05/07/2013 at 19:39

WHAT! YOURE CLOSING THE ROOF NOW!!!

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:39

Murray is not happy that they want to close the roof

  • lou05/07/2013 at 19:39

    You fight it Muzza!

  • Will^05/07/2013 at 19:39

Murray is not happy that they want to close the roof

    You cannot be serious!?

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:39

Anywhere else in the world they would not kill the momentum of a home player

  • lou05/07/2013 at 19:41

This is so unfair for Muzza! He HATES the roof, he hates the system with the roof..

    I swear it's meant to be 9pm...

  • Will^05/07/2013 at 19:41

This is so unfair for Muzza! He HATES the roof, he hates the system with the roof..

    Boycott!

  • Christine05/07/2013 at 19:42

    I swear it's meant to be 9pm...

    Between sets, I guess?

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:43

    Between sets, I guess?

The Pole has been campaigning to get the roof shut for about an hour. Every time Murray gains any momentum he moaned about the roof. None of the ex-players agree with it except Tim.

    #BooTim

  • lou05/07/2013 at 19:44

last year, at the olympics, i was watching tennis on the outside courts... until around 9:30. :( poor Andy. hope he gets back into the swing of it now.

  • lou05/07/2013 at 19:46

right i'm off to grab more pimms :)

  • Will^05/07/2013 at 19:47

right i'm off to grab more pimms :)

I've used the break and am already onto my next G+T :D

The BBC bias re the roof and Murray is laughable.

  • Christine05/07/2013 at 19:52

The BBC bias re the roof and Murray is laughable.

The BBC missed that memo on objectivity an awful long time ago :)

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:53

The BBC bias re the roof and Murray is laughable.

Andrew Castle and Tim Henman both said it was a reasonable time to do it. Sue Barker and others were talking about playing there themselves till 9:30 so there was plenty of time to get another set in. Hardly bias

  • Mark05/07/2013 at 19:55

I'm listening to the radio. Dot Davies is the most biased presenter I've ever heard. Eddie Mair on PM called her out (jokingly) on how every year she says that this year will definitely be his year.

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:57

I'm listening to the radio. Dot Davies is the most biased presenter I've ever heard. Eddie Mair on PM called her out (jokingly) on how every year she says that this year will definitely be his year.

I am watching on TV and there is plenty of light to keep playing. It has been discussed that games at the Olympics last year were played later than this and the days were shorter then because it was weeks later. There is absolutely no reason to close the roof. Janowicz had been moaning about it not being closed for an hour and it looks like the officials gave in to him

  • Will^05/07/2013 at 19:57

I'm watching online and 'listening' to you guys - it seems to be fairly decided how good (or not) an idea it was.

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 19:59

The players are now back on court and it looks darker now with the lights on than it was when they decided to close the roof

  • lou05/07/2013 at 20:00

i have strawbs and cream, and pimms. i am ready for this final (i hope) set.

  • Will^05/07/2013 at 20:03

IS that a Gold iPhone Amir Khan?

  • lou05/07/2013 at 20:06

good thing about the roof. it amplifies the crowd's cheers.

  • Mark05/07/2013 at 20:08

IS that a Gold iPhone Amir Khan?

There's a joke here involving his chin. Any ideas, guys?

  • Steven Roy05/07/2013 at 20:13

  • lou05/07/2013 at 20:27

We've waited long enough for the sun, gotta celebrate it when it arrives I guess!

  • Christine06/07/2013 at 13:39

Ridiculously awful play from Lisicki here.

  • Amy06/07/2013 at 13:40

We've waited long enough for the sun, gotta celebrate it when it arrives I guess!

  • lou06/07/2013 at 14:38

Aw Sue, give her a hug!

  • john06/07/2013 at 14:41

  • lou06/07/2013 at 14:41

    so many tears from everyone.

  • Amy06/07/2013 at 15:20

i am not used to seeing the bryans losing

i am not used to seeing the bryans losing

they will still win, they win everything

  • lou06/07/2013 at 18:03

    Well done to the Bryans!

  • Steven Roy06/07/2013 at 20:03

Watched the women's doubles. First two games took 15 minutes. I just announced that the Australians were bound to win when they collapsed spectacularly and only won about one more game

  • lou07/07/2013 at 13:09

and so the time has come that i need to balance both the sports i love.

    come on andy!

  • lou07/07/2013 at 13:19

too much sport!! got a bit excited that Muzza could break him in the first game then.

  • lou07/07/2013 at 13:29

Muzza is throwing away break points here there and everywhere at the moment. chill out Andy, take it slow...

  • lou07/07/2013 at 13:31

    throws away another break point.

  • lou07/07/2013 at 13:32

    and another one.. Murray...

  • lou07/07/2013 at 13:34

Nole is having a bit of a shocker trying to hold.

  • lou07/07/2013 at 13:34

  • lou07/07/2013 at 13:41

    No

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 13:46

  • Stuart Taylor07/07/2013 at 13:48

    how has Murray been playing?

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 13:49

    3-3. Loking good

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 13:49

    Allo allo. :)

  • lou07/07/2013 at 13:49

    how has Murray been playing?

well, except for when he needs to consolidate a break. At the beginning he was pretty out of sorts/ showing frustration. he is settling in now.

  • lou07/07/2013 at 13:50

    3-3. Loking good

not when you consider Murray was a break up at one point..

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 13:50

    Great rally

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 13:50

not when you consider Murray was a break up at one point..

I am just glad he held his serve after being broken

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 13:50

    No

its always a long match when djokovic is involved

  • lou07/07/2013 at 13:51

I am just glad he held his serve after being broken

    :)

  • lou07/07/2013 at 13:51

i'm going out for dinner with some friends at 6pm. Andy has until then...

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 13:52

right, im all settled down. let's do this.

also it's just hit me how Murray's girlfriend reminds me of Kate Middleton.

  • lou07/07/2013 at 13:55

also it's just hit me how Murray's girlfriend reminds me of Kate Middleton.

you've obviously not been reading the papers, it's all they've been saying all week.

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 13:56

Shut the roof. There is too much sun

  • Stuart Taylor07/07/2013 at 13:56

Ah Lou, I wanted to read the feed to catch up, but thanks!

  • lou07/07/2013 at 13:56

Shut the roof. There is too much sun

do you want to see angry Andy again???

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 13:56

you've obviously not been reading the papers, it's all they've been saying all week.

    This surprises me little

  • lou07/07/2013 at 13:56

Ah Lou, I wanted to read the feed to catch up, but thanks!

ahhh sorry, hope it loads soon!

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 13:57

I only saw the highlights of the semi final but that Janowicz seemed like a bit of an idiot,

  • Stuart Taylor07/07/2013 at 13:57

    >@TomSpilsbury

I wonder if Andy Murray has a girlfriend? Even if he does, I don't suppose we'll ever find out what she looks like.

  • lou07/07/2013 at 13:57

    This surprises me little

really? they say it every year. There are always pictures of them side by side (in the paper) comparing their outfits etc.

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 13:57

I thought Djokovic's last shot was long

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 13:57

really? they say it every year. There are always pictures of them side by side (in the paper) comparing their outfits etc.

I don;t read any papers so I geniunely haven't seen it, it just doesn't surprise me that they've picked up on it previously

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 13:58

I don;t read any papers so I geniunely haven't seen it, it just doesn't surprise me that they've picked up on it previously

I have seen it all over the internet too

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 13:58

I have seen it all over the internet too

Now I have no excuse :)

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 13:59

Didn't the umpire call the ball out there?

  • Stuart Taylor07/07/2013 at 13:59

I like that they make little grunts, it makes it more like Mario Tennis

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 13:59

I thought the ball was good

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 13:59

I thought the ball was good

    Way out

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 13:59

I thought the ball was good

    I got it wrong

  • lou07/07/2013 at 14:00

    deuce. :)

  • Stuart Taylor07/07/2013 at 14:03

Get the feeling it's gonna be one of those LONG finals?

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 14:03

Get the feeling it's gonna be one of those LONG finals?

    very much so!

  • lou07/07/2013 at 14:04

Get the feeling it's gonna be one of those LONG finals?

    he has until 6pm.

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 14:04

    excellent challenge

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 14:04

Although hopefully he'll be done by half 5 as I need to take my sister to the hospital but I'm sure he's aware of that ;)

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 14:04

Get the feeling it's gonna be one of those LONG finals?

The women's doubles final took 15 minutes to get the first two games finished. Then it was over in straight sets

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 14:05

    serve held!

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 14:06

Good to see him holding his serve after working so hard for it

  • lou07/07/2013 at 14:07

    this is great!

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 14:07

    Where has Nole's serve gone?

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 14:07

That was unlucky, Novak came to the net very quickly then

  • lou07/07/2013 at 14:09

    oh Andy, no stomping please..

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 14:11

One of them could keel over if they keep going like this.

Just need Murray to hold his serve to take the first set

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 14:12

oh no its the redfoo ad again :(

he's bad enough to see when he pops up at tennis, i don't want him on my tv every damn day :(

  • lou07/07/2013 at 14:13

Serving for the set± woop woop!!!

  • lou07/07/2013 at 14:14

he's bad enough to see when he pops up at tennis, i don't want him on my tv every damn day :(

is it the x factor ad you tweeted? looks painful!

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 14:14

is it the x factor ad you tweeted? looks painful!

oh gosh, that was awful if it is that one. I don't know how you can put up with that after the first time Amy.

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 14:14

is it the x factor ad you tweeted? looks painful!

yes :( i'll be pleased when the tennis goes back to being on pay tv not free to air so i never have to watch that channel ever again. he's just so irritating.

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 14:14

First set won. Held his serve to love

    YEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 14:14

Now's a good time to bet on Nole, i reckon...

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 14:15

Ahhh, I wondered when Inception music was going to get it's moment!

  • Will^07/07/2013 at 14:15

    Good start.

  • Christine07/07/2013 at 14:15

Jeez, what is up with this mid-match Murray-montage? Bleurgh.

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 14:15

Jeez, what is up with this mid-match Murray-montage? Bleurgh.

sometimes i am pleased to not be watching the bbc coverage :D

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 14:15

Jeez, what is up with this mid-match Murray-montage? Bleurgh.

They needed to get out the obligatory Hans Zimmer stuff :)

    Very random slow mo montage

  • Christine07/07/2013 at 14:17

I can only assume Murray keeled over and died after that set, otherwise the tribute is totally out of place and a mood-killer!

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 14:17

    Maybe he's stuck in slow-mo

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 14:17

oh no, now i'm getting slow mo murray montage. then djokovic falling over.

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 14:17

I can only assume Murray keeled over and died after that set, otherwise the tribute is totally out of place and a mood-killer!

Exactly. TV directors at sports events should be told to stay live and point the cameras at the competitors

  • lou07/07/2013 at 14:17

Jeez, what is up with this mid-match Murray-montage? Bleurgh.

i can't cope with all the 'it's been x number of years since a Brit won...' 'it's murray's year'.

I love Muzza, i do, but it's too much. Wimbles is always murray mania tho.. BBC taking it to extremes now.

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 14:18

I love Muzza, i do, but it's too much. Wimbles is always murray mania tho.. BBC taking it to extremes now.

He's two sets away from doing something no Brit has done in nearly a century. Can you blame them?

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 14:18

He's two sets away from doing something no Brit has done in nearly a century. Can you blame them?

    Yes

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 14:19

He's two sets away from doing something no Brit has done in nearly a century. Can you blame them?

    Yes! They're nuts.

  • Christine07/07/2013 at 14:19

He's two sets away from doing something no Brit has done in nearly a century. Can you blame them?

    Totally!

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 14:19

I love Muzza, i do, but it's too much. Wimbles is always murray mania tho.. BBC taking it to extremes now.

it bugged me extra this year because as soon as rafa and roger were out they were like 'he'll 100% do it, no doubt about it'

it just seems they completely forgot THE NUMBER ONE PLAYER IN THE WORLD is still in.

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 14:19

    Yes! They're nuts.

If Murray wins, you ain't seen nothing yet.

  • Stuart Taylor07/07/2013 at 14:19

He's two sets away from doing something no Brit has done in nearly a century. Can you blame them?

    *woman

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 14:19

If Murray wins, you ain't seen nothing yet.

    That's the scary thing :(

  • Christine07/07/2013 at 14:19

If Murray wins, you ain't seen nothing yet.

If he wins, it would at least have a point.

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 14:20

He's two sets away from doing something no Brit has done in nearly a century. Can you blame them?

He is 2 sets from doing something no Scotsman has ever done or that anyone thought any Scotsman would ever do but that does not merit a winner's montage after one set

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 14:20

He's two sets away from doing something no Brit has done in nearly a century. Can you blame them?

his brother won it a few years ago :P

  • lou07/07/2013 at 14:21

He's two sets away from doing something no Brit has done in nearly a century. Can you blame them?

yes. the hype is what ruins these types of moments.

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 14:21

I believe, if Andy wins, they are renaming BBC1 to BBC Murray, which is going to lead to awkward confrontations regarding Murray Walker, Murray's Mints and the character Murray from the Monkey island series.

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 14:21

yes. the hype is what ruins these types of moments.

i might like him a bit more if it wasn't so in your face.

It helps me understand the Lewis haters :D

  • lou07/07/2013 at 14:21

his brother won it a few years ago :P

YES! and Jonathan Marray last year.

  • lou07/07/2013 at 14:22

i might like him a bit more if it wasn't so in your face.

TOTALLY how i feel about Lewis.

It helps me understand the Lewis haters :D

ah there you go. So we're not so different after all Amy ;)

  • Will^07/07/2013 at 14:22

I wonder whether the cameras would film in slo mo if No Djo met Ro Gro.

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 14:22

ah there you go. So we're not so different after all Amy ;)

    :D

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 14:24

i mean, i wont be upset if murray wins, i just prefer novak.

i used to actively want murray to lose because it was lolz that he had no slams when everyone else in the top 4 had heaps, but now that he has one he might as well get a few more.

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 14:24

i used to actively want murray to lose because it was lolz that he had no slams when everyone else in the top 4 had heaps, but now that he has one he might as well get a few more.

    Same here. :)

I believe, if Andy wins, they are renaming BBC1 to BBC Murray, which is going to lead to awkward confrontations regarding Murray Walker, Murray's Mints and the character Murray from the Monkey island series.

Would it only show documentaries about the Murray river?

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 14:25

i used to actively want murray to lose because it was lolz that he had no slams when everyone else in the top 4 had heaps, but now that he has one he might as well get a few more.

Plus, if he gets wimbledon, it'll help the BBC get over it.

    a tiny little bit.

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 14:26

it totally wont. they'll be unbearable next year if he does.

it'll give them a whole year to think of new murray puns :)

  • lou07/07/2013 at 14:27

    Sir Andy Murray anyone?

does he already have an MBE? I can't remember.. but that's what they appear to get when someone becomes a champ. JB and Lewis did...

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 14:27

    Sir Andy Murray anyone?

He will definitely get some kind of gong

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 14:28

He will definitely get some kind of gong

They love to knight the Scottish when their career isn't even over.

I have nothing against Sir Chris Hoy, I just think they should have held off a few years :D

  • lou07/07/2013 at 14:28

Oh Murray already has an OBE..

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 14:28

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 14:29

    Lord Murray. King Murray!

Sir Lord Murray, Surveyor of the British Murray Isles.

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 14:29

I have nothing against Sir Chris Hoy, I just think they should have held off a few years :D

Redgrave got a knighthood immediately for winning five golds. Pinsent got one after that for only winning four in the same sport

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 14:30

    Sir Andy Murray anyone?

    For sure.

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 14:30

    Lord Murray. King Murray!

King fits, the wonder that is the Daily Mail already has the headline "Queen Kim reigns supreme on Centre Court"

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 14:30

Oh Murray already has an OBE..

That wasn't for winning Wimbledon though.

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 14:31

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 14:32

  • Stuart Taylor07/07/2013 at 15:24

    @liquidindian

Just read on the BBC "Murray breaks back in second set". You have to admire a man who plays on despite injury.

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 15:24

    Ooh goodie, more slow mo.

  • lou07/07/2013 at 15:25

  • Bassano07/07/2013 at 15:25

Ohh sidepod-hivemind, Mrs^ is wondering... What is Andy's favourite surface to play tennis on?

I think he's always said grass. But he always seems strong on hard court too.

  • Bassano07/07/2013 at 15:37

I don't care if it takes 9 sets

  • Christine07/07/2013 at 15:39

  • lou07/07/2013 at 15:40

How good would it be if he did it in straight sets?!

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 15:41

9 sets?! with play like this they'd keel over!

It can't take them any more than 5. No one said anything about how long a 5th set can go, though. ;)

Lendl looks like he wants to jump out of the box!

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 15:42

It'll drop even further once Murray wins, though. Better to do it now. :)

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 15:43

    /coach

  • lou07/07/2013 at 15:44

That is going to cause havoc with the highlights

my friend worked at the olympics writing down notes for the highlights of the tennis. I kid you not she had to write down things like that. :)

  • lou07/07/2013 at 15:44

Quick Andy, take your hat off! *

    *clutching at straws

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 15:46

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 15:47

Murray finally tries the drop shot and messed it up

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 15:48

Nole should've taken off his hat a LOT earlier.

  • john07/07/2013 at 15:48

    burn that dodgy hat novak

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 15:48

Nole should've taken off his hat a LOT earlier.

There needs to be a rule that he has to wear it

  • lou07/07/2013 at 15:50

    was that muzza shouting?

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 15:51

  • lou07/07/2013 at 15:52

  • Lukeh07/07/2013 at 15:54

Bah, heading out earlier than I was told. Looks like I'll miss the end of this. Enjoy, all. Hope Murray does it.

  • Will^07/07/2013 at 15:54

That's a "you've gotta be kidding me" shot right there.

  • Will^07/07/2013 at 16:10

Why was it less confusing when no-one had a hat on?

Because we've had the opposite configuration already.

Murray ends the 77-year drought on July 7.

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 16:32

    http://www.andymurrayometer.com/

Interesting that Cameron was applauding politely and Salmond was really going for it

  • lou07/07/2013 at 16:33

how dare they. Mo is a legend.

no not the umpire. the head guy who decided the roof should be closed on Friday, Murray was angry..

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 16:33

Interesting that Cameron was applauding politely and Salmond was really going for it

Well, Fred Perry will still be relevant - as he is still the last English man to win Wimledon.

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 16:33

how dare they. Mo is a legend.

Murray hd just won his second set and Janowicz had been moaning about the roof for an hour so the gave into him and closed it

  • Will^07/07/2013 at 16:33

Well, Fred Perry will still be relevant - as he is still the last English man to win Wimledon.

    Accurate.

  • Bassano07/07/2013 at 16:34

Well, Fred Perry will still be relevant - as he is still the last English man to win Wimledon.

The press need to let that go now, it's like the 1966 thing

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 16:34

Murray hd just won his second set and Janowicz had been moaning about the roof for an hour so the gave into him and closed it

    that drama was ridiculous.

  • lou07/07/2013 at 16:34

    that drama was ridiculous.

a tiny bit ;) but it sucked me in. :)

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 16:34

Murray seems so calm compared to how he was at the Olympics

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 16:34

a tiny bit ;) but it sucked me in. :)

    wahhhh andy had the advantage.

don't care, no such thing as a home court advantage.

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 16:34

The press need to let that go now, it's like the 1966 thing

They will... until the next English big thing comes along.

And can't blame them for '66. Not like any UK soccer team has enjoyed any success since then.

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 16:35

Murray seems so calm compared to how he was at the Olympics

    Hasn't sunk in yet.

  • Bassano07/07/2013 at 16:35

And can't blame them for '66. Not like any UK soccer team has enjoyed any success since then.

I can blame them, it's too much expectation. Regardless, good on Andy, he deserves it

  • lou07/07/2013 at 16:35

haha Andy's sense of humour :)

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 16:36

I can blame them, it's too much expectation. Regardless, good on Andy, he deserves it

If Andy pulled through it, so can they. :)

  • Mr C07/07/2013 at 16:36

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 16:37

If Andy pulled through it, so can they. :)

The difference is he is of the standard to do that and the footballers are not and never have been

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 16:37

The difference is he is of the standard to do that and the footballers are not and never have been

Going with how long it took before you got Murray, the footballers have a few decades to go yet. ;)

  • Bassano07/07/2013 at 16:37

    £1.6m, that's some payout for a fortnight

  • Will^07/07/2013 at 16:37

    spoty for murray then?

Close the voting now, we have a winner.

Get down the bookies NOW and get some money on Murray for Sports Personality. (Not jinxing, honest)

So... Andy Murray for Sports Personality of the Year if he pulls it off?

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 16:38

    £1.6m, that's some payout for a fortnight

Drop in the water compared to the millions Andy will get in deals after this. :)

  • lou07/07/2013 at 16:38

I'm finding it hard t believe last year he didn't even have 1 grand slam. LET ALONE 2!!

    :D :D

  • Bassano07/07/2013 at 16:38

    We decided on King.

    :)

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 16:38

Drop in the water compared to the millions Andy will get in deals after this. :)

he cant get too many more, surely he's already got them all :D

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 16:39

he cant get too many more, surely he's already got them all :D

All his contracts will have bonus clauses for wins like this

  • Journeyer07/07/2013 at 16:39

So... how many millions will stick around on BBC1 for the F1, eh? ;)

  • Bassano07/07/2013 at 16:40

So... how many millions will stick around on BBC1 for the F1, eh? ;)

This time a year ago he had never won a mjaor tournament. H now holds Wimbledon, US Open and Olympics

I think the only time it leaves the building is to get presented on court.

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 16:46

you're not allowed to touch the australian one with bare hands unless you've won it so everyone wears gloves to handle it

  • lou07/07/2013 at 16:46

they said the ladies only ever get to touch the trophy when they are presented with it and then when it gets carried in, then its taken off and put in the cabinet again. assuming its the same for the mens.

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 16:47

So if you have clean dry hands you can't touch it but if your hands are covered in sweat etc it is OK

The sweat of champions makes the trophy even stronger. Or something.

  • Steven Roy07/07/2013 at 16:48

  • Amy07/07/2013 at 16:48
