Will Murray still be smiling tomorrow?

Yesterday was Women’s quarter- finals day, sadly I didn’t get to watch much of the tennis, but I hear weather caused a number of frustrations with cancelled/ postponed/ delayed play everywhere at SW19. Notable performances include Sabine Lisicki, Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka and Petra Kvitova all defeating their opponents to make it into the Ladies’ Semi Finals day on Thursday.

However lets not forget the sweet shop of matches that have been lined up for us today. My goodness are we in for a treat! I’ll show you a sample of the matches we have lined up for us and you’ll see what I mean.

Centre Court – 13:00

  • Jo-Wilfred Tsonga vs Roger Federer
  • Andy Murray vs Feliciano Lopez

Court 1 – 13:00

  • Bernard Tomic vs Novak Djokovic
  • Rafael Nadal vs Mardy Fish

See what I mean? I’m not sure we could have asked for a better day of Mens’ Quaterfinals! Mean while we also have some excited doubles matches, the famous Bryan brothers are among those in action on the other courts too. You can find the whole schedule of play here.

In addition to the very brilliant singles line up we’ve been offered we are also in for more great tennis from the invitation doubles matches that are happening today. Famous names from the past that will be making a return include Pat Cash, Annabel Croft, Martina Navratilova and Lindsay Davenport. I must not forget the wonderful Mansour Bahrami and his doubles partner for today, Andrew Castle. I’ve mentioned before just how much I love watching Bahrami play and it’s certainly something I recommend if your plans allow for it. He’s last up on court 19 so should be playing in the evening. It’s guaranteed to be an entertaining match!

With such an amazing day lined up for us there isn’t anything more for me to say other than I hope you really enjoy it everyone!

Bahrami is playing with Andrew Castle? That must be your dream lineup, Lou.

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 11:13

Today I learned that Roger holds the record for most consecutive slam appearances in R2, R3, R4, QF, SF AND F. Boom!

  • lou29/06/2011 at 11:21

    Morning tennis fans!

Bahrami is playing with Andrew Castle? That must be your dream lineup, Lou.

That Wimbly tweeter does seem to get a bit confused sometimes. I admire the effort though.

hehe they have been tweeting an awful lot :)

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 11:51

I is watching Lisick play doubles. I like that she hasn't pulled out, lots of players do when they have good runs in the singles which really isn't very nice to their partners

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 12:04

Amazingly Roger has the best BP conversion rate of the 8 remaining men, at 19/38 or 50%. I hope no one reminds him that normally he sucks a lot more than that.

  • @Twiger (Nick)29/06/2011 at 12:05

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 12:08

Tomic on one channel, Stosur/Lisicki on the other. No Roger! Damn you Australians!

  • Mark29/06/2011 at 12:10

So, it would appear JWT is completely insane. Is anyone else watching his interview?

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 12:14

phew, Stosur has gone bye bye. Hi Roger!

  • lou29/06/2011 at 12:20

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 12:22

    Problem solved

Tsonga is young, he can win stuff when Roger is retired. They all can. Slams for everyone lovely!

  • Mark29/06/2011 at 12:30

Two early breaks of serve for the two favourites. This could be over very quickly!

  • lou29/06/2011 at 12:31

  • Mark29/06/2011 at 12:35

I just feel bad calling Tomic Bernard. That shouldn't be an 18 year olds name.

  • Mark29/06/2011 at 12:38

I just feel bad calling Tomic Bernard. That shouldn't be an 18 year olds name.

It clearly didn't affect Bernard Hopkins, he looks like a sane person, considering... oh.

    roger fail

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 12:42

that is completely not what i was wanting to type. I was wanting to say this tweet is a fail

@Wimbledon #Federer holds an easy opener after double faulting first point to lead #Tsonga 1-0 #Wimbledon

He didn't double fault, why is their tweeter so rubbish? #blametweetdeck?

  • lou29/06/2011 at 12:43

they need a lotus esque twitter competition ;)

  • Marti29/06/2011 at 12:43

Who is winning? Tsonga or Federer?

I've just arrived from lunch, lovely pasta food.

  • Mark29/06/2011 at 12:45

The Fed is one set up. He doesn't look even remotely challenged.

  • Christine29/06/2011 at 12:48

  • Christine29/06/2011 at 13:21

holy oh my god how did tomic get a set point.

  • Mark29/06/2011 at 13:22

holy oh my god how did tomic get a set point.

It's fine now, he's dropped them both. Anyways, you shouldn't be so negative about your own players. That's our job!!

Any New Zealand tennis players we should know about?

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 13:34

Any New Zealand tennis players we should know about?

Marina Erakovic is our highest ranked and she's pretty rubbish at singles. She's better at doubles though, currently in the QF here at Wimbly :)

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 13:40

    Tsonga breaks

  • Mark29/06/2011 at 13:43

Djokovic is having a hissy fit out there. He's a break down and really not enjoying himself.

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 13:45

Djokovic is having a hissy fit out there. He's a break down and really not enjoying himself.

I hope Rog wraps up in 3 so I can switch over and watch. Time to break back!

    Djokovic broke back.

  • Mark29/06/2011 at 13:51

  • Christine29/06/2011 at 14:20

    haha my commies rule sometimes.

  • @Twiger (Nick)29/06/2011 at 14:46

    bah

I belive they used to use sheep to keep the grass on the courts short

  • Christine29/06/2011 at 14:47

    haha my commies rule sometimes.

Whereas ours said: "Is he waving to her? No, he's likely wanting some more complex carbohydrates." And started talking about energy and stuff.

Is that like the fruit that Mr C doesn't understand?

  • Christine29/06/2011 at 14:53

Is that like the fruit that Mr C doesn't understand?

Even I don't understand that. Carbohydrates I know, but the complex ones are... too complex for me.

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 14:54

I would be dealing with this better if my throat wasn't trying to destroy me from the inside out.

  • Alex Andronov29/06/2011 at 14:54

Even I don't understand that. Carbohydrates I know, but the complex ones are... too complex for me.

    he he :)

I do understand but that's not very funny :)

(I remember them from Biology A-Level)

  • Alex Andronov29/06/2011 at 14:55

I would be dealing with this better if my throat wasn't trying to destroy me from the inside out.

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 14:55

    Amy's throat and Federer #affinity

    exactly! One is alright...ish....

two is just 'why am I awake, sleep would make both of these things better' :D

  • lou29/06/2011 at 14:57

  • Christine29/06/2011 at 14:57

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 14:59

sorry Amy.. but Tsonga is awesome.. :)

he is, but he's not allowed to be today.

You need to stop liking every player you've taken photos of or your roster will get too big ;)

  • Christine29/06/2011 at 15:00

I like that Nole had a proper chinwag with Tomic at the net.

  • Alex Andronov29/06/2011 at 15:00

I like that Nole had a proper chinwag with Tomic at the net.

    I wonder what they said?

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 15:00

I like that Nole had a proper chinwag with Tomic at the net.

they practice together quite a lot, perhaps because their names end the same :D

  • lou29/06/2011 at 15:03

he is, but he's not allowed to be today.

    :D

You need to stop liking every player you've taken photos of or your roster will get too big ;)

  • lou29/06/2011 at 15:08

hehe my german friend is supporting tsonga! I've got her into tennis after 2 days :)

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 15:12

Roger has never lost when he's been 2 sets to love up but all good things must come to an end.

Speaking of which, if Nole wins his next match he'll be world #1. Hooray!

  • Christine29/06/2011 at 15:13

Roger has never lost when he's been 2 sets to love up but all good things must come to an end.

    Never ever ever?

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 15:13

    Never ever ever?

never ever ever, he's 178-0 in that stat.

  • Alex Andronov29/06/2011 at 15:14

That was a pretty good recovery from that slip #sorryamy

  • Alex Andronov29/06/2011 at 15:14

never ever ever, he's 178-0 in that stat.

    wow

  • Christine29/06/2011 at 15:16

never ever ever, he's 178-0 in that stat.

That is, as Alex would say, crazybonks.

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 15:16

    wow

I guess 178-1 is still pretty good :)

  • Alex Andronov29/06/2011 at 15:16

That is, as Alex would say, crazybonks.

heh... and nice use of, as blank would say, as I usually say.

  • Mark29/06/2011 at 15:16

My sister has started saying T-Songa instead of Tsonga. This could get irritating.

  • Alex Andronov29/06/2011 at 15:17

    Nice

  • lou29/06/2011 at 15:18

    Hehe yaaaayyy tsonga

  • Alex Andronov29/06/2011 at 15:21

Great drop shot to set that up...

  • Alex Andronov29/06/2011 at 15:21

Tsonga has a different kind of arm pump

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 15:23

and meanwhile Rafa is playing Mardy Fish. Sometimes I hate the way draws work :D

  • lou29/06/2011 at 15:23

    Oh my god!

  • Christine29/06/2011 at 15:23

    Wow!

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 15:23

the top 4 mens seeds have never all made the semi finals in two slams in a row.

thanks for killing that dream, Jo :D

  • Alex Andronov29/06/2011 at 15:24

    what an upset

  • Alex Andronov29/06/2011 at 15:24

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 15:24

he's been playing amazing though all tournament, not totally surprising :)

  • Alex Andronov29/06/2011 at 15:25

he's been playing amazing though all tournament, not totally surprising :)

Indeed... but it's Roger at Wimbledon...

Tsonga stuck his tongue out for a moment and reminded me of Sampras.

  • Alex Andronov29/06/2011 at 15:25

Well done for waiting Rog... Nice stuff

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 15:26

Indeed... but it's Roger at Wimbledon...

he lost at this stage last year, that was more shocking :D

  • Christine29/06/2011 at 15:26

Now we're going to have to go through it all again. Who do we want to win, Nole or Tsonga! These tennis players need to stop being so nice.

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 15:27

Now we're going to have to go through it all again. Who do we want to win, Nole or Tsonga! These tennis players need to stop being so nice.

Ah, yes, I can see that.

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 15:27

I'll even take Murray winning this slam over Rafa please.

  • lou29/06/2011 at 15:27

Ah am very happy for tsonga, lovely celebration, obviously happy, and very well done to fed too. Gracious in his loss and played so well. Great match.

    Hi all. Still in shock.

  • Alex Andronov29/06/2011 at 15:29

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 15:29

  • lou29/06/2011 at 15:30

  • Amy29/06/2011 at 15:36
