Twickenham plays host to the England and Wales rugby players, as they face off against each other in the latest bout of the Six Nations Cup. Both are on equal footing when it comes to the form guide, but Wales have always struggled for luck at the Twickenham Stadium. The game will be live on BBC One, following coverage of the Ireland versus Italy game. Who will you be cheering on?
Six Nations - England vs Wales
Published by Christine Blachford on
There is already some rugby on. The people, they seem to be run, run, running and then deliberately falling over. This is something I usually try to avoid when I am running.
Italy have played three and lost three. Doh.
Hello. Will be here properly in a bit.
If they fall over after the sticks when carrying the ball they get points and the chance to kick it for more
It's the same as a Touchdown in NFL.. except they actually have to touch it down on the ground :)
Hello all! :)
Afternoon
There are touchdowns where you don't have to touch down? Sport is weird. :)
Today it appears to be law to wear a Welsh top in Wales as everyone appeared to have them on earlier. I had a red jacket on. I feel I did my part.
American sport especially, it's called football, but you carry and throw it!
Good to see BBC's dramatic openings aren't just saved for F1!
Hehe!
...and less said about the World Series the better! ;)
Sad to say that my knowledge of rugby is mostly that bloke that did Strictly and A Question of Sport, and then Charlotte Church's ex. It's a start, I suppose.
What about dwarf tossing players who are married to royalty? You must've heard about that!
Also a local radio station asked 100 people what was more important - beating England or winning the 6 nations. The result was 74-26 I believe, I'll let you decide which was in favour :)
Oh yes, I tried to block that out :)
Ha! Presumably one would lead to the other anyway?
It would but priorities! :)
So what's actually happen in the 6 nations so far then? I've paid no attention to it and, if I'm honest, I'll be mostly watching England v Pakistan in the cricket!
Wales have been awesome, France has been too cold to play, and everyone else keeps falling over.
I did hear about the France gaming getting cancelled, that was a bit of a farce!
I used to really enjoy rugby, played a lot, but got frustrated by the dominance of the kicking game a slowly stopped caring. Coincidently the further a got a way from Wales, the less it mattered to me!
Used to watch it a lot when I was a lot younger but I don't care for the 'regions' in Welsh rugby. sucked away any interest I had in watching it a lot. six nation and world Cup, that's about it for me.
They're trying to speak, turn down those
enginesloudspeaker!I think if the 6 nations wasn't every year, I might care more about it. It was mostly getting kicked in face too much and hands in painful places in the scrum that put me off playing. North East Wales is a bit odd for rugby anyway, torn between Union and League being so close to the League powerhouses
Predictions, everyone?
Pakistan by 3 wickets.
Oh sorry, wrong game! Wales I guess
Wales. By masses.
He's off the local news. That's odd.
Maybe Wales by 5. How are the bookies seeing this right now?
Also, I'll be watching the match on BBC America today. :)
Wales are heavy favourites I believe
England 6-4, Draw 20-1, Wales 4-7 on Skybet
Those are the only two competitions I watch, but I do like them
Just seen JB is 7-1 for the WDC, might have to have a punt on that!
England have been bad with a new lineup but somehow getting through it. Scotland fighting well. Wales are good. Ireland reasonable. Italy better than usual but still worst.
Weeee!
Wales to lead by HT, but England to pull it back in the 2nd :)
Pleased Italy are getting better
Tea, toast and live commenting. It's like preparing for melbourne.
13-2
I moved my setup over winter. PC now away from TV view.. I haven't thought this through. Firing up netbook..
Was able to watch some of the Rugby World Cup matches online via the competition website. Some of the games were gripping.
That reminds me, we got to see how Christine and Mr. C have their place set up for the F1 races Sidepodchat coverage. :)
Fire!
It's all so dramatic :)
*stands up and sings*
I've decided to go for the rugby on mute on TV and cricket on TMS.
Nice daffodil face!
Credits rolling on Top Gear over here. About to join in. :)
You'd look good in one of those daffodil hats
They're my colour and everything :)
come on Wales!!
Hehehe!
The King of Wales is there, Tom Jones
Anyone know of anyone who has a backyard with seating for over 80,000 people? It is the Stoop after all. :)
Here we go :)
I've just realised, not only is there this rugby game and the cricket, but the Nationiwde Series race from Daytona is on in an hour. Why do they always schedule these things at the same time!
Oooooh george north almost broke through...
scary that he's 19 years old...
Wales are really going for it
Live online coverage:

Scrums always look so awkward.
as a former hooker/prop, I can confirm they are!
Thanks :)
What an awesome recovery
That was amazing getting up so soon after hit like that
Halfpenny just skipped around the following challenge too!
England's defence seems to be holding up quite well at the moment. Wales have looked a lot more attacking minded though.
Definitely get the sense Wales will score first.
Matter of time me thinks
I think England need it as well, it might spark them into action
also like how in rugby you get to hear what the ref is saying. wouldn't dare happen in football!
Wales got a bit pushy there...
I love that. And the fact the players actually listen and act instead of playing up to him!
Come on leigh...
Yikes. Not a good kick.
nvm, Penalty on England
Nosiree.
Much better
I believe they trialled it once in football and it only lasted 1 game it was that bad
First BLood to England
The penalties are just like football.
That's a turn up for the books considering it's mostly been all Wales
Hoped for a try, but that'll do
Webber's watching: Chilling out watching the rugby. Running hard and straight, love it. Perfect condtions. A Webber on the bench too for England!
Passivity on the pile there...
Hopefully this'll be a better kick from Halfpenny
Is there a Ashes in Rugby Union as well?
Muuuuuch better :)
Much better kick from Halfpenny. :)
So close!
No, but any engnlad/aus games is important!
aw just needed one more metre!
some massive challenges coming in from the welsh defence!
It would've been funny if he missed that :)
GOt a bet on England getting the first try of the game?
Every time England score in the rugby, the lose a wicket in the cricket. Come on Wales!
Reminds me of some PSA parodies of what happens to a kitten after someone does something, but I don't want to go there... ^^;;;;
England have really woken up
Hadn't realised there would be people bleeding everywhere!
Nothing a plaster and a lollipop can't heal
that's what the blood bin's for :)
Looong kick.
They also look like they're all about to do the Daz doorstep challenge.
So who here have this in their yards?

I wish!
Wonderful kick!
6-6. Awesome.
nicely kicked
Right down the pipe. :)
:) :)
Sports on BBC America? Yes, please. :D
It's all about the kicks today.
that kid's not old enough for beer!
Root or Birch beer, yes. :)
I didn't expect us to lead at the break!
Speaking of beer, almost that time.
How many times now has that dude just stood there?
also, that first half FLEW by.
I don't like clockwatchers.
I'd quite like that England St George suit though.
should be able to do that
It is half time already? They only have 15 points between them. That Italy game, one side had 47!
gonna guess it wasn't Italy who had 47 :)
sorry, that should read "should not be able to do that"
Any changes in the odds, or were they locked in at Kickoff?
Hehe. You might be right! It was 42 actually, my bad. But still. Better than 9.
ah, Kieswetter's just got out, 79-4 :(
There were few long periods with no chance of scoring, a sign of a more evenly matched team.. or maybe the style of play with all the tackling.
If you watch France they pass the ball a LOT more, more flowing, great to watch.
England now 11/10, Wales are now 4/5
ESPN3 in the US has the French Top 14 Rugby league and I saw some action from there some time ago.
And now that I think of it Fox Scooer had last years NRL Grand Final as well.
Speaking of Australia, Aussie Rules underway soon with the V8's in Adelaide next weekend. Meanwhile, the Bathurst 12 Hours is tomorrow. You truly have to get up early in the morning to win on the mountain. ;)
World Superbikes as well from Phillip Island this weekend
Bathurst is today for us.. in about 2 and a half hours
http://www.bathurst12hour.com.au/
Whilst on the subject of sports in Australia, those of you with British Eurosport 2 can watch an hour long show about Mark Webber's Tasmania Challenge in 5 minutes
Their countdown clock assumes you're in Bathurst.
True. :)
As to the question of "How much is the doggy at the flagpole?", here's the answer. :)

2nd half!
The lead position of the tournament on the line here.
Tom Jones sending new tactics down to the bench there
Nice block!
Ohhh silly Wales...
Has England just have a wicket taken?
If England don't build a decent lead whilst a man up for 10mins, they won't deserve to win!
the Sin Bin is just a grown up version of the Naughty Step really, you can't fool me rugby
No, we seem to have got away with it this time, 112-4
Hoping for a try or 2 penalties?
try and a conversion
ha true :)
Sin Bin = Nickname for the penalty box in Ice Hockey
54:37 the time to keep in mind, Pat
Yes! Penalty to wales, should be a kick.
Not what Pat wanted, methinks...
off the post!
I keep missing the reason for all these penalties.
I didn't realise there were reasons!
The say Hartley was off his feet at the tackle.
That scrum business looks kinda terrifying.
Talk about your head-to-head matchups!
considering your dislike of hugging, it's like extreme hugging.
Hugging in anger!
dislike of hugging? How can you not love a hug!
Today's Attendance: 81,598
That's one sturdy Stoop! ;)
fail
Missed it by THAT much.
-Maxwell Smart
Hah, Eddie Butler. "oh you and your knock ons!"
How long do they have to go?
15 min
15 minutes. It'll hit 80 then turn red, then they can complete that play.
15 more minutea
NASCAR starts in 10mins I think
I'll let you know when they start the engines, at the moment, it's all Danica talk *rolls eyes*
Did it a couple of times at school, that was bad enough, but against guys this size..!
Oh yes! Put your thread up a bit early if anyone wants it: http://sidepodcast.com/event/daytona-500-nascar-sprint-cup-2012
Head on head! ouch
That seemed dangerous
Thanks. :)
is that for use tonight too?
Turned over :(
It's mostly for tomorrow, but it's there and waiting for Danica talk :)
Ouch, big fall from height
I don't fancy lifting up one of those players, they're all quite enormous.
I'm allowed to talk about one the other drivers too? ;)
Can't blame the guy if he has that soft helmet on.
THis looks like a job for Team lifting. ;)
Wales penalty!
Hand in the ruck the call. THis is to tie.
oh my word.. tied
12-12 with 8 minutes left!
Woah!
Webber's coming on!
F1 connections.. Webber on for Hartley :)
MotMATM for you? May be Halfpenny for me?
Imagine the bragging that'll be going on at Red Bull if he helps them win... :D
Tuilagi or Halfpenny I'd say. Warbuton's made a few decisive challenges though.
Mr C is impressed that play mostly keeps on going. He is too used to NFL I suppose.
Is it bad if they draw?
no safety cars or nuffink.
They only get a point for the tournament, a win is 2 points
Check out a Team Handball match if you get the chance. :D
www.ehftv.com
No bonus points imminent, if I'm not mistaken?
Nooo!!
YEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Awesome leaping!
wow
Game over!
bless the happy welsh fan in all the english fans
They can't get that back in 5 minutes surely
Nice!
we need an animated gif of that dive.
There is a man in our street shouting!
Yes!
:D
Nice Try would be selling what Williams did short.
He must be one of the 76 :)
if england go getting a try now my mind will just explode.
So how close did it come to doing that there?
it was too busy celebrating to explode :)
How can anyone fathom what is going on underneath all those people?
so close.
Big set of phases here...
Oh my word
Woooow!
that was close
did he?
I love hearing the ref's words.
"The Play is under review..."
No, not over :(
can't see!
How many views have they got??
not enough... clearly.
can't give that
France 2007 Final all over again?
Good effort, well defended
YEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS
Wow, what a close game.
only saw a few minutes, but enjoyed everyone of them.
Crazy ending though
Great second half!
Warburton given Man of the Match
The transparency between the ref and his people advising him is mindboggling.
It really came alive in the last 15 mins or so
took a while to get going, but entertaining in the end
Six nations championship here we come!
great innit
So.. you know it was a good game because half the people are being helped off the pitch by medics?
Pretty exciting ending, that's for certain.
Brilliant stuff. The only people who can't hear it are the fans in the stadium.
Hard fought :)
If the NFL were to have a team in London, would Twickenham be that teams home stadium?
It would be Wembley where the annual London game is held, but it SHOULD be Twickenham, better suited to it IMO
I gather that's because of the difference of ground conditions between the two?
Yeah the NFL teams always complain about Wembley and I think in fairness so do the footie teams..
Probably could have used a deeper dirt bed for the field.
spot on, longer grass, and a pitch that isn't used or Bon Jovi!
If things continue, 2012 may truly be the year of the Welsh Dragon. :)
Right, I'm off to NASCAR. Hope to see you there :)
Scotland and France play tomorrow, I suspect that might not be so close..
I'll be there when the preamble stops :)
No coverage on BBC America. Anyone know where I can watch or listen to that match online?
Fun afternoon commenting :)
Never needed to look! Justin.tv maybe
BBC America do have the Wales - Italy match in mid-March though. :)
Wales with the first piece of hardware - the Triple Crown.
And if you haven't had enough, they said the women's England v Wales is on the red button in 15 minutes
Thanks for coming along. :) Great fun
Hoping to be back for the Daytona 500 tomorrow at this time. :)
