Week 8 presents us with a quadruple-header of NFL action. The TNF game saw the Broncos powering through to beat the Chargers. In the early slot the Detroit Lions are playing the Falcons from Wembley (13:30 Sun – C4). This will kick off at 0930 of the East Coast of the States, and 0630 on the West – one for the die-hards on that side of the pond. Next an AFC North divisional matchup when the Baltimore Ravens play at the Cincinnati Bengals (17:00 Sun – Sky Sports). After that we have a battle of the 5-1 birdies; the Philadelphia Eagles play the Arizona Cardinals (20:25 Sun – Sky Sports) – a win will keep that team atop of the NFC. The late night offering pitches the Green Bay Packers against the New Orleans Saints (00:30 Mon – C4). The Saints have been slumping despite the talent on their roster, whereas the Packers are getting stronger with every game – likely ‘shootout o’clock’! Beware the time changes and the early start… lunchtime NFL everybody!!

little mix - I had it on mute

I'd also completely forgotten America doesn't change its own clocks this week. Explains why this game is 13.30 and not 14.30 as I'd expected...

I'd also completely forgotten America doesn't change its own clocks this week. Explains why this game is 13.30 and not 14.30 as I'd expected...

I know there is a week difference, purely because of the NFL

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 13:25

I'm watching this on C4, but the coverage doesn't seem great so far. If it annoys me enough, I'll just switch to Gamepass.

I've managed to wrestle the TV, so I get a whole screen, rather than a 1/4 of a laptop :)

    Here. We. Go!

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 13:42

Virgin box just decided to reboot *face palm*

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 13:45

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 13:45

Good start. Shame I have the Lions to win.

No Bush? Oh. Yeah. I'd change my pick with that knowledge!

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 13:49

I'll be at the third game.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 13:50

I'll be at the third game.

'Boys at Jags - should be something special given how Dallas have started

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 13:52

3 TEs out as well, why did I pick the Lions again? ;) Ohh yeah, the defence

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 13:55

    Nice return

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 14:03

    TD Falcons""

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 14:04

That was a great fake. Tricked me too.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 14:09

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 14:09

Bell definitely didn't want that ball.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 14:10

Bell definitely didn't want that ball.

Not at all - could see the brick wall in front of him

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 14:11

What were they saying about a viable franchise on London? I missed the start of it.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 14:12

What were they saying about a viable franchise on London? I missed the start of it.

Something about timezones... he didn't seem too happy with having to work at 9am

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 14:14

That Falcon had has hands all over him for the whole route

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 14:16

Something about timezones... he didn't seem too happy with having to work at 9am

Of all the reasons an NFL franchise would be difficult in London, that's really not a good one.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 14:16

Of all the reasons an NFL franchise would be difficult in London, that's really not a good one.

That's a very selfish reason not to expand the sport that pays his bills...

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 14:17

    Wasn't that out of bounds?

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 14:18

That's a very selfish reason not to expand the sport that pays his bills...

For a start, games wouldn't need to be at this time. They could have them in the normal early slot, or maybe an hour before. Secondly, what does he think businesses travellers between the UK and the U.S. have to do when they travel?!

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 14:19

    Wasn't that out of bounds?

It was - just didn't hear it called as such

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 14:26

Lions defence looks to be getting weaker - Fairly is being helped off the field - knee bent painfully on collision with Suh

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 14:28

It was - just didn't hear it called as such

The comms called it in as we watched the side judge clearly signal it OOB.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 14:39

    Some return, that.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 14:40

That's got to be offensive PI.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 14:41

I don't like how those fouls offset. The offensive foul shouldn't count there.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 14:41

That's got to be offensive PI.

    *defensive

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 14:41

Amazing return, that he'd already got a flag for

DET 0-21 ATL at the half

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 15:05

C4 have the Man vs Food guy!

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 15:12

I'm in and out of comments at the moment. I may be more consistent for the next games. But I am around.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 15:28

    What was Marshall Faulk saying?

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 15:29

Joey Barton claims to be an NFL fan... Doesn't seem that way from what he's saying. Struggled just to name the teams.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 15:31

    What was Marshall Faulk saying?

Sorry, wasn't in the room at that point

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 15:31

Joey Barton claims to be an NFL fan... Doesn't seem that way from what he's saying. Struggled just to name the teams.

He's just a face with a sideline pass

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 15:35

Again the commentators are rubbishing the surface - I think they're part of the NO campaign.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 15:37

Good pocket presence from Stafford - kept that play alive for an absolute age - nothing came of the throw though

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 15:38

TD Lions - HUUUUGE bomb to Tate

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 15:40

He's just a face with a sideline pass

    Yep, completely vacant.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 15:45

Lions looked to have forced ATL to punt, but an illegal contact penalty gifts the Falcons a 1st.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 15:47

    FUMBLE

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 15:47

The 1 Falcon under the pile comes out with the ball

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 15:48

    Interception!

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 15:49

Apauling INT from Ryan - straight to the Lion, no Falcon even close.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 15:49

    Lions now at the 7

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 16:11

Even if Tate had caught that, it wasn't going anywhere.

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 16:29

    That was an incredible catch

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 16:30

    It was!

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 16:34

Not often you see a kneel, then a spike.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 16:35

Delay of game means it's over, right?

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 16:35

Delay of game on a last second field goal???

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 16:35

Doesn't it mean a 10-second run off? Also, bad snap.

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 16:35

Where did the 4 seconds come from?

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 16:36

Where did the 4 seconds come from?

The clock was stopped after the spike.

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 16:36

The clock was at 4 seconds when the play cock ran out

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 16:36

The clock was at 4 seconds when the play cock ran out

    gam clock not play clock

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 16:36

Did I say, I had the Lions down to win?!

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 16:37

What a way to win after being behind for the whole game. Would have been incredible to have lost because they didn't get the play off on time

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 16:40

It wasn't a ten second runoff because the clock was stopped. I got confused. Rules inside two minutes do get complicated sometimes.

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 16:42

It wasn't a ten second runoff because the clock was stopped. I got confused. Rules inside two minutes do get complicated sometimes.

I think the rules must be written by the same people who complicate F1 rules

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 16:51

Had to run out, but caught the final drive - good comeback!!

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 17:12

Right, I'm on to Redzone now, will switch to a couple of games once it settles down. Probably Seattle and New England.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 17:15

    Panthers lead 3-0.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 17:15

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 17:21

Jets, down by 7, just got intercepted whilst targeting Percy Harvin.

Geno Smith got picked off again.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 17:28

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 17:32

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 17:37

    Geno Smith threw another pick.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 17:39

Patriots fail on 4th and goal.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 17:39

Patriots just can't seem to get past the 1.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 17:54

    That's not Gronk!

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 17:55

    That's not Gronk!

Yeah, but you should be glad. The more they get the ball to Tim Wright, the more open Gronk will become.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 17:59

Sammy Watkins just caught a pass for 84 yards. Tackled as he celebrates his "touchdown".

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 17:59

Jets have a wide receiver at DB.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 17:59

    rookie mistake

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 18:00

Jets have a wide receiver at DB.

    excellent, please say it's Harvin

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 18:00

    rookie mistake

I guess he thought he could beat DB. Trouble is, he wasn't racing a DB/ He was racing a wide receiver.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 18:00

    excellent, please say it's Harvin

    No, it's Saakim Hakim.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 18:13

he is getting most of the targets on this drive it seems

Him and LaFell are getting a lot of work. Edelman has a drop on this drive.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 18:21

    It stood.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 18:22

Rex Ryan's angry with the refs, probably because Vick fumbled the ball and lost it.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 18:24

Gronk is carrying me this week

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 18:27

That's two game-winning/losing plays wiped out this week.

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 20:01

Ravens score the game winning TD then get done for pass interference

Sorry. It was the Vikings not the Ravens. Ravens are stuggling to get out of their own red zone

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 20:01

Vikings going for a FG with 3 seconds on the clock to tie the game

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 20:02

Ravens score the game winning TD then get done for pass interference

    No, it was the Ravens.

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 20:02

    No, it was the Ravens.

I am watching Red Zone and they keep jumping from match to match. Very confusing

Haha. It's still easier to follow than quad box!

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 20:03

Haha. It's still easier to follow than quad box!

They had a triple box on a few minutes ago

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 20:03

    OVERTIME IN TAMPA!

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 20:10

Vikings win after forcing a fumble and running it back for a TD.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 20:11

Vikings win after forcing a fumble and running it back for a TD.

    Yup, that will do it

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 20:13

Why do you need the extra point in overtime?

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 20:15

Why do you need the extra point in overtime?

    erm...

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 20:16

Points difference to break a tie for a play off place??????????

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 20:18

Points difference to break a tie for a play off place??????????

But you're no longer in regulation, so I don't see why that's necessary.

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 20:18

But you're no longer in regulation, so I don't see why that's necessary.

It doesn't seem to make any sense but that was the only thing I could come up with

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 20:19

...because that's what always happens after a TD.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 20:20

...because that's what always happens after a TD.

but not in overtime – usually, anyway!

I am not suprised the Cardinals couldn't defend that. I was sure an entirely different player had the ball

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 20:33

MASSIVE FAIL of a play from the Raiders on 4th down.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 20:34

FG fake, do to pass formation, muff the snap, throw a pick and allow a big return.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 20:34

Whereas when Brady does it, they are very nice

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 22:02

Colts need to go 70 plus yards in 28 seconds. Now 25 yards in 20s

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 22:02

Whereas when Brady does it, they are very nice

    Brady's punts are legendary.

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 22:03

Colts in 2 plays have gone over 60 yards. 1st and goal from the 9. 12s to go and no time outs

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 22:06

But yes, it was between the two of them.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 22:11

But yes, it was between the two of them.

I always think that unless you have 2 super-studs, that playing a TE in a flex (unless forced) is a risk

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 22:11

...looks like you have it covered though

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 22:12

Larry's a risk though. He's hardly featured all year. I'm just stopping anyone else from having him :-)

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 22:14

Vikings win. I forgot that game was still going on

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 22:14

I find similar with VJax - he has good matchups and I still bench him... then he goes on and gets nothing. I'd like him to get traded by Tuesday ;)

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 22:14

Vikings win. I forgot that game was still going on

Heh, it's not. It finished about an hour and a half ago :-)

Their defence scored the TD and no sign of the PAT

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 22:15

Their defence scored the TD and no sign of the PAT

Perhaps they came to their senses and left it at 19-13 then.

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 22:15

Heh, it's not. It finished about an hour and a half ago :-)

I missed the end of it and it just appeared on screen. Red Zone s confusing

I have the same problem with Steven Jackson.

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 22:16

Perhaps they came to their senses and left it at 19-13 then.

    They did

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 22:16

I have the same problem with Steven Jackson.

Ohh yes, he's not very productive either - although last year I managed to get Dan to take him off my hands for DThomas - I mean what?!

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 22:21

Ohh yes, he's not very productive either - although last year I managed to get Dan to take him off my hands for DThomas - I mean what?!

And that's my problem. My three most inconsistent performers are Jackson, Fitzgerald and Watkins (but Watkins is a rookie, so that's not unexpected). They're the three highest scorers for me this week. But next week, they might score 5 points between them.

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 22:25

Err, they're only up by 3. Any other team apart from Tampa would be safe, but I think they need at least a couple more.

This one is able to throw the ball away when nothing is on - which is a skill that Stafford has only gotten close to mastering this season.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 22:50

TY Hilton racking up yards - I've just remembered that Wayne is out - that may be the reason

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 22:53

Great TD run by Bradshaw for the Colts. Looked like he was going to be stuck behind his own linemen then found a gap and disappeared

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 22:55

@C4NFL: Six straight games with 300 yards passing for Luck. Beating the Colts' record held by some bloke called Peyton.

Haha - counting down ;) Am I right in thinking the NFL will be the final comments on the site?

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 23:03

    Oooo, sounds complicated

If you use websockets like on here, you can't do it, I don't think. Not without a lot of trickery. If you use (more inefficient) polling, it's dead easy. You just give the user the opportunity to set an offset in seconds.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 23:04

    4 weeks! :)

I usually do a bit of work on it each week while I watch the NFL :-)

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 23:05

Because it's really just for our amusement, I can't justify very much time to spend on it, but it will work :-)

What is your current situation with half-screen mode? IIRC with Eurovision, the text entry was at the bottom, but the new comments appeared at the top (or vice versa)

Yeah, I did that because I wanted the most recent comments at the top, but it presents a number of other issues, so I'll probably stick with the traditional top-to-bottom, and have the comments form at the bottom too.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 23:10

Yeah, I did that because I wanted the most recent comments at the top, but it presents a number of other issues, so I'll probably stick with the traditional top-to-bottom, and have the comments form at the bottom too.

Cool, that's perfect for me - I only ever comment in half screen mode, with the football in the other half

Funny seeing bees swarm over a football.

I tell you what would be useful with respect to delayed comments - the ability to select your delay, then easily turn it off and on. So we can have these conversations around the action, then those in fron can send their "TD" comments to appear in 40s time.

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 23:16

But then again I don't know how easy it is to do anything web-design based ;)

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 23:17

That didn't go so well for the Colts...

Everyone could comment as normal, but you'd set the delay before you'd see comments, so if you're 1 minute behind, you set the offset to 60 seconds. If I can make it work like that easily.

If that is the easiest way to do it, then that ;)

Andrew Luck was always going to struggle to argue that one.

He had no chsnce of making a case

Outrageous TD pass and catch for Arizona

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 23:30

What do they need to review?

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 23:30

    There is nothing to review.

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 23:30

What do they need to review?

Nothing I can see. It's an automatic review

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 23:31

Yes, but they only announce the review when there's something to properly look at. Otherwise, it's a quick glance and continue.

    TD Steelers

  • Steven Roy26/10/2014 at 23:44

Foles threw a last second pass for the winning TD. It was caught but the receiver didn't get a foot down in the end zone

Cards win to remain top of the NFC

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 23:45

San Fran should be worried, I think.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 23:47

    Luck picked off.

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 23:47

Big Ben can go for the record if they really want...

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 23:48

Ben needs 25ish yards for the record

  • Will^26/10/2014 at 23:58

Go on then, what was his qbr?

  • Noelinho26/10/2014 at 23:59

Go on then, what was his qbr?

    150.6

  • Noelinho27/10/2014 at 00:00

His yards/attempt stopped him getting a perfect rating.

  • Noelinho27/10/2014 at 00:01

You need 12.5 yards/attempt for a perfect metric, he only had 10.65.

  • Noelinho27/10/2014 at 00:02

    He just beat Brady (148.3).

  • Noelinho27/10/2014 at 00:05

    Right, I'm off. Work tomorrow.

  • Will^27/10/2014 at 08:36

I think I'd fallen asleep before you came up with the answer

Pff. It's not like I was slow either!

Not at all, I was tired so ended up just listening to the last few plays in bed.
