Another NFL-weekend is upon us – one that should be full of action. First up on Sunday we have the New York Jets at the Miami Dolphins (1800 – Sky Sports). Next the Houston Texans travel to play the Denver Broncos in the thin air at Mile-High (2115 – Sky Sports). Peyton Manning will need to start the game better, rather than gifting turnovers in the first quarter, if he wants a win. Later still we have the Baltimore Ravens hosting the New England Patriots (0120 – C4). Our last matchup of the weekend is on Monday night (Tuesday morning); the Green Bay Packers play at the Seattle Seahawks (0130 – BBC red button / online) – which could look ‘easy’ for the Packers, but as one NFL-pundit put it, is a ‘tough game in disguise’.

I haven't watched much of this game. I think doing more than one game in the same day is too much. I will watch the game at 9 o'clock ish

He hasn't been listening to me, he's been staying up watching rubbish films on Netflix. Better that he watches some sport, I say :)

One day he will realise you are right.

Just tweeted F1 Rankings to get some points for @maqinghuaF1

    I did try earlier ;)

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 18:50

I'm back - has Sanchez improved from what I saw earlier?

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 18:53

I'm back - has Sanchez improved from what I saw earlier?

I have been watching baseball so I have no real idea what is happening in that game

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 18:56

Time to get something to eat. Back in a bit

Looks like the game has tightened up a bit since the last bit I saw 10-10 now

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 18:56

Ahh - from what I saw they were in need of some Tebow time.

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 19:00

Tebow just tried for a rushing TD out of the Wildcat while in the RedZone - nothing.

Sanchez back in for 3rd down - INT = Touchback. Ouch!

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 19:10

Ooo - playaction with Tebow as a receiver in motion - he's useless and the ball bounces off his helmet for an incompletion.

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 19:19

Ooo - playaction with Tebow as a receiver in motion - he's useless and the ball bounces off his helmet for an incompletion.

It's like they say. Tebow does things no other Qb can even think about doing

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 19:20

It's like they say. Tebow does things no other Qb can even think about doing

They seriously need to put him in as the proper QB - see if he can get any production - especially as Florida was the birth of Tebowmania

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 19:23

Possibly a good challenge there - looked like the ball started to come out

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 19:23

I thought it was OK until his bum hit the ground

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 19:24

I thought it was OK until his bum hit the ground

It's only after his bum makes contact with the ground that the ball comes out

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 19:24

I thought it was OK until his bum hit the ground

Don't they now have to have control all the way to the ground - like any normal inbounds reception?

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 19:24

Does the bum count as grounding?

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 19:25

Don't they now have to have control all the way to the ground - like any normal inbounds reception?

I am not sure exactly what the rule is.

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 19:25

Does the bum count as grounding?

    I assume so

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 19:25

    I assume so

    Yup then

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 19:30

    HUGE play there! Massive YAC

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 19:32

Total play was 66 yeards - off a Sanchez short throw

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 19:34

Total play was 66 yeards - off a Sanchez short throw

I think they need to pick one QB and stick with him

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 19:47

Far too much pass interference going on - both teams - both sides of the ball.

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 19:59

Time to leave this game and to find a Chargers stream.

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 20:01

Time to leave this game and to find a Chargers stream.

Last week I watched the start of the Broncos game to see how Manning was settling in. 3 interceptions in not may more minutes was enough to send me to bed. Not sure I should watch the Broncos game next aft that but how can it be worse

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 20:02

Baseball is weird. THey stop the game half way through the 7th inning to sing a deputy national anthem. America is a weird weird country

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 20:03

America is a weird weird country

.. So very weird - agreed.

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 20:03

The Texans will prove a tough team for Manning, but the Falcons do have a great D - he might be able to get some joy

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 22:21

I am a bit later to this than I planned. 2nd half not long started. First thing I saw was the Texans ounting the ball. Manning then went three and out without ever looking like doing anything.

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 22:22

I'm not having much joy watching the Chargers

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 22:22

The Falcons were always going to be better, but not 20-3 better (2mins into 4th)

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 22:23

The Falcons were always going to be better, but not 20-3 better (2mins into 4th)

    quite a recovery needed then

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 22:23

    quite a recovery needed then

Just got an INT on their own 4, so quite a few drives and a good bit of luck rqd!

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 22:25

Weird watching the Broncos playing in their traditional orange.

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 22:27

Going head first into the QB so hard you knock his helmet clean off is always going to get you a penalty

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 22:27

    On Manning?

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 22:28

    On Manning?

    No Schaub

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 22:28

    No Schaub

Going to say - Manning's head would've almost come off.

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 22:29

Going to say - Manning's head would've almost come off.

I think if it had been Manning the crowd would have been a lot more upset

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 22:31

Ohh dear - poor punt from the Chargers, Falcons in scoring position (again)

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 22:32

Ohh dear - poor punt from the Chargers, Falcons in scoring position (again)

Just saw the red zone interception from that game

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 22:32

Another TD by the Falcons - their offence has been on fire all game.

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 22:42

This quarter Denver 7 plays zero yards

8th play made 36 yards but it gets pulled back for a holding penalty

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 22:54

TD for the Texans. They seem to either get 15 yards on a play or look like they are all on different pages of the playbook

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 22:56

TD for the Texans. They seem to either get 15 yards on a play or look like they are all on different pages of the playbook

They are supposedly 3rd fav in the AFC

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 22:57

Broncos picking up stupid penalties. Returned the kick off 50-60 yards but pulled all the way back for holding

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:01

Bahh 27-3. Switching to the advertised game.

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:02

Bahh 27-3. Switching to the advertised game.

    Sounds a bit one sided

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:03

Looks like the Texans need a nice long drive on the ground to wind down the clock

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:03

Broncos offence looks like they were all on the same page for a few plays where they made good yardage then almost ended in an interception

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:09

    Late flag

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:12

    Denver recover - hope yet?

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:13

    Denver recover - hope yet?

Don't think so. 20 points is too much

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:15

Don't think so. 20 points is too much

Their only hope would be a fast drive, and to get a couple of quick turnovers/onside kicks

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:15

Their only hope would be a fast drive, and to get a couple of quick turnovers/onside kicks

    Fast drive - done

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:16

That'll be the fast drive - a long play does the job! Now for the KO

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:16

Some times it looks like Manning has the offence running perfectly. Trouble is it only seems to last for 2 or 3 plays

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:17

He had another receiver wide open on the right

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:19

    Nice playcall for that TD

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:21

    Defence did their part

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:22

I was going to say - 3 and out is exactly the right thing for the defence to provide Peyton with.

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:25

    Great completion while being flattened.

Not bad for an old guy

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:26

Now that was a hit - he'll feel that tomorrow

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:30

4th and 16 made the lucky way

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:33

    TD. What a pass

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:34

What a plonker. What kind of receiver doesn't know to drag his second foot

  • Noelinho23/09/2012 at 23:35

I forgot about the live comments, and I've been watching this for hours!

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:35

What a plonker. What kind of receiver doesn't know to drag his second foot

One that will never be targeted again by PM18 inthe red zone

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:36

We have not been commenting that much

It has felt rather spacious in here ;)

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:37

    That is probably it

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:38

Are the Texans trying to make it close?

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:38

    Denver running game is hopeless

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:39

    TD on the rebound

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:40

What is it with Denver QBs and the 4th Quarter?!

  • Noelinho23/09/2012 at 23:46

Dunno, but they left themselves too much to do.

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:49

One more 1st down will do it forsure

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:49

    (assuming no knee-gate)

  • Noelinho23/09/2012 at 23:50

P.S. I'm on Sky time, sorry for delay :-(

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:51

I'm using 'alternative' coverage, so have no idea how far behind I am

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:53

Peyton Manning now has more 300 yard passing games than any other QB in history

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:53

    Serious stand off defense

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:53

That final play was a little different to say the least

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:54

Couldn't quite get the hook-and-ladder to work for them

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:57

I'm happy though - Denver are divisional rivals :)

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:57

Patriots-Ravens game will start in 20 minutes

  • Will^23/09/2012 at 23:57

Will be a great game, but not for me tonight - I'll just finish the PITvOAK then call it.

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:58

I'm happy though - Denver are divisional rivals :)

You always have to look after your own team's interest. If Denver had a running game Manning may just be able to get them playing

Strange thing is that they have supposedly bee set up for the rush.

  • Steven Roy23/09/2012 at 23:59

They lost one and maybe two top RBs to injury

  • Will^24/09/2012 at 00:00

Explains it - did W.McGahee leave the game early then?

  • Steven Roy24/09/2012 at 00:01

Explains it - did W.McGahee leave the game early then?

I didn't see the start of the game but the commentators said he was out injured. Not sure if he started this game

  • Will^24/09/2012 at 00:02

On GameCentre he had stats, and was the leading rusher, but nothing much: 36yds.

  • Will^24/09/2012 at 00:04

Right that's it - I'm leaving before I get drawn in. See y'all soon.

  • Noelinho24/09/2012 at 00:05

Bank Holiday in Scotland tomorrow, so I'll be up for the first bit of the game at least.

  • Noelinho24/09/2012 at 00:32

Looks like we're off - anyone here?

  • Noelinho24/09/2012 at 00:35

Can't see the Patriots winning tonight.

  • Noelinho24/09/2012 at 00:46

Give me a shout if anyone turns up in the thread…

Guess I was the only one watching last night too?

  • Steven Roy25/09/2012 at 19:11

Guess I was the only one watching last night too?

I think because we are commenting on so many games there are actually fewer comments than when we were only doing one. I think one thread per weekend is the right way to go. It lets people comment on any game they choose and it allows a commenting session to spring up any time there are people interested.

I wonder though if it is worth designating one game as the sidepodcast game and trying to get people who are only going to watch one game per weekend to watch and comment on that one. If anyone thinks there is any merit (or not) in this leave a comment and tell us which game time you would choose.

  • Will^25/09/2012 at 19:32

Guess I was the only one watching last night too?

Middle of the night Mon-Tues is definitely the wrong time to be watching. I tried it wk1+2 and was thwarted by sleep on some level both times.

I wonder though if it is worth designating one game as the sidepodcast game ...

I'd agree that because there are ~4 game-times over the weekend that we are seemingly spread thinly. If we are going to pick games, I think that either of the 2 slots on Sunday afternoon/evening (or whenever the Chargers are on) would be a good place to start. I know that eg Mr C might favour a late-night match, but probably either of those would generate a better response. When it comes to choosing of the game, Sky Sports (for those that do have it) give us one form each start-time, so would probably give the most people the most chance of being able to watch it ('the easiest'). If I had to choose, I'd say the ~2100 kick-off, as but that time we've finished what needs to be accomplished on a Sunday, and recovered from any F1-commenting-session or Hangout, but still allows people to get a get a good start to their week.

  • Mr C25/09/2012 at 21:45

Guess I was the only one watching last night too?

far too unwell to comment this week sadly.

will have a think about the best way to comment games. it's tricky because i know i can't keep up a weekly schedule for the whole season, even if i was healthy. happy to go with whatever others decide really.

  • Noelinho25/09/2012 at 22:22

Well, I'm watching the NFL whenever I'm in, which is Sunday 6pm - 7pm, 10pm - I fall asleep, and then Monday night until I fall asleep.

And I watch in my bed on my iPad, so I tend to watch the first quarter of the late games, then see how interesting the game is.
