After an action-packed first weekend, we should expect nothing less from the second. First up we see the Carolina Panthers hosting the New Orleans Saints (1800 – Sky Sports) – can the interim to the interim head-coach of the Saints get a handle on nuances of running an offence? Then (2105 – Sky Sports) Washington Redskins at the St Louis Rams – will rookie QB RG3 start 2-0? Finally for the Sunday, we have the San Francisco 49ers playing the Detroit Lions (0120 – C4) – can Calvin Johnson overcome the ‘Madden-Curse’? Our last game of the weekend is on Monday night / Tuesday morning, and sees Atlanta Falcons against the Denver Broncos (0130 BBC (red-button / online) – if you want to watch Peyton Manning to turn gridiron into a game of chess, then this is the game for you.
NFL Week 2
Published by Will Davies on
Thanks to Will for the post. Means I really didn't forget to write one. Phew
Game has kicked off
Saints are tearing the Panthers defence apart
TD Saints. Way too easy
I'm in for the first hour of game one, and back an hour into the second game :-)
No worries. Unfortunately guests means that this game is out (but I can sit in the comments). I'm around properly for the next though.
okay, i'm here. yesterday's indycar has put me behind on coding, so nfl following is a bit constrained this weekend.
No problem :-)
Lucky for you there are even more breaks in NFL than in IndyCar. Even with Sato driving.
I'm 'watching' via the play-by-play on the NFL app.
Oh, and, er, any streams going?
did you pay for a week or a season?
Fortunately I fell asleep soon after Will Power trashed his car and his championship chances
First Row Sports is your friend, though I'm on Sky Go.
p2p4u.net
There's an NFL app that works in Britain?
yeah. 2 minute preview for free then you have to pay. 1 sec.
I hope the Panthers offence is better than their defence because they just crumbled in the opening drive
http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/nfl-game-pass/id459244446
NFL Game Pass lets fans living outside the United States watch live NFL games online. And now, with the NFL Game Pass app, you can see all the action on your favorite iOS device. Coaches Film with new Telestrator feature (iPad only), Condensed Games, Big Play Markers, scores, schedules, stats, and full play-by-play analysis are all available for live and on-demand games.
found it this week, am gonna give it a go.
Oh yeah, I know about that. There's one from last year that is now only available in the US :-(
Touchdown Panthers
The Saints messed that up massively.
Guess I'll see that soon then...
is it any good? can airplay it to the telly, but £17.49 is pricey.
Game Center for this game
http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2012091601/2012/REG2/[email protected]#menu=drivechart&tab=track
Looks like the Saints offence is quickly going to make up for giving away a touchdown
it's a free app, and only tells me what plays have been run - it's all text
ahh okay. am too busy to appreciate the paid one, but reckon i'll give it a shot for week 3.
Essentially GameCentre for your phone - hence 'watching'
If you don't want to stream it, and are okay with radio broadcasts, go here: http://www.freesportscasts.com/FreeSportscast_FB_pro.htm
Cooking dinner for guest. Watching properly @9 :)
ahh, interesting. saint vs. panthers is blocked in the uk. presumably because sky have the rights. so the app is perfect for everything except live commenting on sidepodcast :)
First quarter over already
Go for it on 4th down
What an almighty kick up
in the uk, c4 has nlf live from 12:45am. must remember to switch it on :)
It's mentioned in the post
Doesn't your job have normal hours or something?
Another three points for the Saints. I am not hooked by this game. Switching between it and the Yankees game is not helping
Live broadcasts are blocked from GamePass, but they are available to watch in-app later in the week.
depends. this week, i have stuff to get done by monday lunchtime, and so long as it's done, it doesn't matter when.
meant to work all last night to keep today free, but then indycar happened. if i could master multitasking, i could do it all ;)
makes sense i guess. think i'll still try it next weekend though.
Yeah, I just use Sky Go, but if I had more money, GamePass is good value for money over the season. Doesn't include Playoffs though :-(
FIGHT
Oh and a TD for the Panthers
Oh, just missed it! Off out - back c. 2200
does the £139.99 package? otherwise, what's plus about it?
Not sure. Certainly hasn't included it in the past. But a couple of weeks ago, it was cheaper, so maybe the late rights deals have changed things.
will have a play when i get chance. it's damn pricey, but a week wouldn't hurt ;)
Pricey, yes, but potentially 50p per game if you have enough time to watch everything!
Which is about 15p per hour of action!
Hi guys. I can't get this game at home without buying it, so I'm streaming it. Thanks for the links.
interesting! i can't watch that much NFL though. who could.
It has been a weird game. Saints strolled through the opening drive for a TD. Next time they got the ball inside their own ten Brees threw the ball straight to Pathers for them to get a TD.
Can't believe the Panthers are winning
It's mpossible
hm. Thanks for the update.
I don't think this game will get much older before a huge fight breaks out
Is this just generalized aggression? Why do they hate each other so much? Is there some particular rivalry I've missed?
Tolbert's a big guy.
If I had the time, I sure could!
I have no idea why but they already had one fight that fizzled out quickly but it just seems like there is sme kind of niggle involved
I have heard of a game of two halves but that was a half of two halves. Saints looked like they would dominate but finish the half 8 points down
:)
Woah, what's the score? They were leading when I left the house!
13-21
Second half just started two minutes ago
Cool, well I'm not going to catch any of the rest of the game, sadly. Hoping the Patriots get through the Arizona D in the second half too!
Mr C, the plus subscription gives you offseason access to regular season games, no play offs games, though. I just double checked :-)
Do any of you have a favorite in this game?
Not me
Nor me
Panthers are just cutting through the Saints
me neither. I never realized how much I like the regional games, the easy to access, see how the local boys are doing games. It's so weird for me to stream an NFL game. Never done it before.
It's almost like sidepodcast is all about new experiences
Always pushing the boundaries. I like it.
Surely they would have been better sending out a physio rather than someone who just wants to chat
haha
That was just too easy
13-28
Brees getting no protection and gets done for intentional grounding. 10 yard penalty and 4th down.
Things can only get better
ow.
Great play by Carolina. In real trouble on their own 5 and with one play they make nearly 35 yards
Did I hear right that earlier someone on the Panthers said they'd go the Superbowl and win it this year?
oops. Fell on his butt.
Bad time to do that.
Bad drop
hehe
Or a good time if you see a wall of Saints between you and where you want to go. :)
heading off for a bit. back before midnight to catch up. cheers all.
Details
Bye Mr C
I'm having my first cup of more traditional/non-herbal tea in a verrrry long time. I went with Rooibos with coconut milk and stevia to sweeten it. It's SO good. (coconut milk is made from coconuts, obviously, but doesn't taste like them. It's more like regular milk)
Later, Mr C
Coconut milk is made from coconuts. Really? Never would have figured that out.
I don't think I have ever tasted it. I have only ever seen it as it spilled on the ground when someone cut a coconut open
I'm here to help.
This is different from that. It has the consistency of cow's milk.
OK I don't know as much about coconut milk as I thought
http://sodeliciousdairyfree.com/products/coconut-milk-beverages/unsweetened
It looks like it comes from the grated meat of the coconut
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coconut_milk
21 unanswered points by the Panthers? Bet you didn't expect that from their first drive.
You just can't believe how easy the first Saints drive was
hm. It's good stuff for people that can't have cow's milk or soy.
I guess it is a lot harder to milk a cocnut though. Especially in New England
Not going well
19-9 down
How do you go from losing ten yards to almost gaining ten in the one play?
Just getting them down from the palm trees is hard enough. That and finding palm trees.
But I went on a little excursion in Branford, CT a month or so ago and some fancy home owners in the Thimble Islands in CT have imported palm trees and planted them on their estates. Palm trees in Connecticut!
This game is wackadoo.
Believe it or not there are palm trees growin in Scotland. Only in one litttle part.
growing there, like native? or imported?
Love to see a QB ploughing through everyone for the TD
I can't imagine they are native. People say it is beacause of the Gulf Stream.
I love that, too.
That's interesting.
Quick search says there are lots of places on the west coast with palm trees. I had no idea
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plockton
48 yard run by the Saints. They go 15 points down then respond with that
wow! News to me. I still learn so much here. :)
Right up the middle!
The trees in the link I posted are Cordyline australis so that suggests imported
What? Wow. Holy moly. What a game.
ALMOST got it from Brees.
It is a little bit unusual
Evening all - for real this time.
Hi Will
Hi Will. It's been a weird game but I would bet on it getting weirder
<5 mins remaining?
I have it at 3:45
Cool - I'm finding a stream, and just flicking down the play-by-play
I have it at 3:25 (all this time later)
Been thinking about it and this has to be the only game I have seen where a Qb had a ball stripped, picked it off the ground and threw a pass
I shall enjoy that on the highlights :)
Is it any wonder we have trouble with time zones
I can't remember seeing that before, either.
You'd think they'd be happy to recover the fumble.
Brees throwing the ball aways to stop the clock before the two minite warning
I seem now to be up to date then
Normal practice would be to dive on the ball but to just casually pick it up and complete a pass. i don't know what to say about that
Yeah, Brees wasn't having it.
Two mistakes in one comment. Time to do more typing tests I think.
"oops. Wait, let me try that again." *throws ball*
ha. Read it correctly to myself, didn't even notice.
It is amazing what your brain can process
TD Saints
Too little to late?
Or maybe TD
Both offenses over 450 yards? wow.
... scoring review ...
It is a TD....eventually
I'd like to see a better [read wider] camera angle.
I do love it how they describe that as a "1 yard TD-run"
"leap" is more like it.
Onside kick attempt
Ooooo-onside
Do they need to convert a 1st in order to run the clock down?
Sky trying to show two games at the same time. Their second game Redskins at Rams just kicked off
Yes because of timeouts
For Noelinho
Arizona 20 Pats 18
Wowzers
2 minutes to go in that game
Cards' ball.
Was that a pick?!
Can't believe Brees threw an interception with 30 seconds to save the game
Wow - I was expecting a HUGE drive for the score from Brees there
Panthers win 35-27
I bet no-one expected that
Wow. Seems a perfect ending to such back and forth game.
So Sophmore-Slump there by Cam
Me too. You have to take some risks in that situation but that one was very risky
Go big or go home ;)
Pats are not only two down they missed a two point conversion to get there
These games a far better than I would've imagined - so many big stories
I know I set up the other SS game, but I'm switching to the Chargers match - as is my want.
Hang on you write a post then switch horses mid stream
I'm watching the Giants beat Tampa Bay. They were tied with 1:24 to go, then a big run by Nicks and the Giants scored.
Haha - I was writing up the games for best viewing ;) But as I'm stream-hunting anyway, I'll watch San Diego.
I just flicked back to the Redskins game from watchin the Yankees finally win their game
Ohh no. The Chargers ran the WildCat :(
Come-on Norv - let Rivers make the plays!!
I'm going to watch a movie. Maybe I'll catch you guys later.
Byee.
Chargers challenging call of incomplete in the end-zone --- TD???
Should've stood. Didn't. TD on 3rd down instead
Woah - Ravens lost... !!
That'll be 2nd Chargers TD!
Right, I'm back
Hi there.
I am half watching the Redskins-Rams game. The players are spoiling for a fight and the crowd are not at all happy.
I am not going to be around much for the next half hour to an hour though
Long, long TD pass by RG3 but I doubt I could watch a whole game with commentators constantly calling him Griffin the third. Every single time they say his name. His name is Griffin not Griffin the third
They probably think he is triple-barrelled: Griffin-The-Third
He even has Griffin III on his shirt
He should wear number 3, or even III
Or better yet have Griffin, the number 3, and a little "rd" as a superscript
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''3j2;knmm4555555666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 n
Yep, I'm still here.
Oooops - my cat seemingly wanted to get in on the act.
This game is shaping up nicely.
Redskins-Rams?
Yep.
Nice. Chargers-Titans had a good 1st quarter, but has gone a little quiet.
Redskins just intercepted Bradford in the ebdzone.
Would have retaken the lead with a TD there too.
Your cat should get to know Alex Andronov's daughter. They make such similar comments
And Richardson ran for about 50 yards just a minute before! Waste opportunity.
be back with y'all in an hour (essentially when c4 starts), if you're still up.
:)
I usually manage to delete ir, but he managed so send it that time.
Probably not, since I have to work tomorrow! Will see this game to the end though. Indycar last night was hard enough!
I think it'll be just till ~midnight for me.
Blocked punt!
I may be around till 1am but I need to be up for work
Have you seen the Chargers game from last week - 3 punting #fails
Redskins blocked the punt from the 14 yard line. 1st down on the 24.
(Not for the Chargers!!) :D
bad weekend for late night sports!
In one game? Weird season all round
No, sadly not. Will check the NFL archive when I get a chance.
esc key is your panic button.
1 blocked, and 2 long-snapper fails.
Now that is useful, will have to remember that next time.
3rd TD of the night for Chargers' TE Rosario
Interesting couple of plays. Rams have the ball on the Redskins 5. A RB/Receiver went and stood at the back of the end zone but all of the Redskins ignored him. Easiest TD pass ever. Then they made the two point conversion
Spoiler! I haven't seen the conversion yet!
Or maybe I missed it?
2013 we're adding a "i'm watching via http streaming, delay everything by a minute". i can only see it getting worse.
Are you watching a stream?
Delayed sidepodcast. Whatever next. It will be like reading the archives before they are old
hehe.
I'm watching on Sky Go.
OK
There you go
Maybe two minutes is safer? Or 90 seconds?
heheh!
Very accurate.
we timed it at about 40 secs, but the longer you watch, the farther out it gets (i think).
Oh no, buffering isn't an issue. But it is quite arbitrary as to how far behind you start.
Having a delay in the system would seriously harm any chances of you scoring any SPC-points
interesting. it may not be possible to solve the issue then.
we know our live streams are 40 ish seconds off and the flash player is delayed to keep everyone in sync, but you can't do that when people have content on their actual tv's sadly.
:)
we'll all be back in sync on c4, but i'll be commenting in sync to meself :) :)
Well, I think you just pick a set time delay, and you live with it.
Any delay is better than none"
yeah. we gave up on live sky f1 races for this very reason. it's just not possible to play along.
Yeah, but highlights are awful :(
... So you add delay where when you're live-broadcasting?
i like em. better than having comments or twitter describe a pass, a lap before it happens at least.
I find that quite fun - you're getting another little commentary + begin directed to watch how the move actually starts to unfold.
Surely if you delay the comments of people watching a stream then their comments are going to appear later in the stream to people watching TV. You are going to end up with a very mangled comment stream for anyone reading back later
Guessing it's a client-side option.
Yeah, I just turn Twitter off for Sky races.
there are two ways to listen to sidepodcast live. on mobile devices such as android / iphone and on your desktop browser. desktops use flash player which adds about +10 seconds delay, while mobiles use http players which adds about 40 seconds. so flash is delayed on the desktop.
there is that. i don't actually have a solution, it may not be possible. am just acutely aware of the problem and know it's only set to get worse and worse.
I have always taken the view that if I have a delay and I am live commenting an event that it is inevitable people will comment before I see something. I have often been a minute behind other people and had them post comments that gave away something that was going to happen. People will comment as they see things and nothing can be done to change that. Nor should anything be done about it
Why do you think it will get worse? Because of people using mobile devices for things more?
Ahha - I get ya - clever.
If I'm having to watch with a delay, then I'm usually just thankful that I've found a stream, so really don't mind it - I'd rather be part of the action, than not.
Can see it would be quite feasible if intermittently checking for new content, guess it would be harder to do for push?
yeah, mobile usage is massive here this year. everyone is going to be watching live sports with a tablet on their lap soon.
I don't think there is an easy or even a possible solution. And as you say it will get worse. We are bound to end up with a range of systems with everything from near instanteous to 2 minute delays
Great sack
dunno yet. off-season job #1 i reckon.
Not a sack, but yes ;-)
I should concentrate more on the game. I just looked up from reading comments
OUCH!
Of course, the biggest problem with a massive punt like that is that your team-mates have to try and run all the way down the field!
Ooft.
Nahh - as a punter you want it to go out of bounds inside the 10.
Yes, but when it doesn't, there can be a lot of space to run in to. They did a great job to cover there.
That was weird. Ended up on the Indycar page :-/
Probs why special teams have ages to wait between running the length of the fields
Some of them have to play on offense or defence too though :-)
True, but I bet they get a breather before though ;)
A it unfair to penalise the guy retaliating and not the guy who set out to trigger it
Yeah, but the first guy was subtle. Second guy was an idiot about it.
Well short, well wide. Predictable really.
It's one of those things that annoyed me about round ball football as a kid that retaliation was seen as worse than someone cynically setting out to provoke it
I'm happy with that one: Chargers 38 - Titans 10 (final score)
I think the Fox commentators have been offered something by the match officials union
That's a good decisive result.
Our game just finished with the Rams winning 31-28
Rivers ran is offence like with style.
So RGIII is 1-1
Right, I'm off. Goodnight.
That's it for me as well - busy day out tomorrow. Enjoy the late-KO
am here just in time for everyone to leave. mike's back on the C4 sofa and they've dropped the annoying big guy.
For some reason Danny Kelly wasn't too popular. I thought he was OK
start of last season he seemed out of his depth anchoring, but he grew into it.
C4 game will be Detroit Lions at San Francisco 49ers
http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2012091613/2012/REG2/[email protected]#menu=depthchart&tab=preview
ta
Time i was in bed. I miss late night NFL comments already and it's only week 2
laters chappie. catch ya for more tomorrow if you're around.
me too. :)
Evening. Mr. C still awake?
... Plan is for ~2hr nap, then up for the game. Well, we'll see how it goes.
err... yes :)
Game is 1am today, is it?
bbc red button is:
0125-0430 Live NFL: Monday Night Football - Denver Broncos v Atlanta Falcons
Oh. Won't stay up for that then.
nfl.com says kick off is 1:30
http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2012091700/2012/REG2/[email protected]#menu=depthchart&tab=preview
i won't get to the end :)
Oh no, we have that awful music again. No pundits, still?
nope. i guess they're not planning on having them. poor show compared to C4's excellence yesterday.
Sadly missed all of the C4 coverage yesterday. Really shouldn't be up for this. Have to be at work at 9am.
I cannot believe I am still awake. Sidepodcast is a bad influence. I am only staying a few minutes though
oops! there was a great build up, analysis of the weekends other games, the lot. much improved from last year.
this was your idea! (originally)
:)
I should have known it was my fault
Anyone would think the BbC dont want to cover this
they couldn't try any less.
Even the music only lasts for 45 seconds.
it's almost worth paying game pass prices. wonder if this one is blocked too.
OK, I will fall asleep or howl in frustration at this "coverage" soon.
ooh hello america
We have a game
nope. just the sky game (forgot to check yesterday).
First chance I get to see Peyton Manning in a Denver uniform. This is going to be weird
am guessing they're the favourites?
yikes! impressive.
Well that was a really bad drive by the Broncos
LOL. Worst opening drive EVER. Three massive fails.
TD. amazing.
Things can only get better
Wait, you're STILL ahead no me???
on the bbc? how? it's just television.
I live in a delaye universe :-(
are you streaming?
Online. BBC streams are usually only a couple of seconds behind though.
not on mobile devices (see previous conversation). it's about 40s.
No TD
actually. bbc might be delaying flash like we do too?
TD for sure this time
comparing TV to this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/american-football/19506388
i got a 15 second delay on the desktop. will try mobile now.
35s delay on the ipad. same page.
You really do need it for research
there is literally no way to code around that!
:)
again?!
Detect desktop pass a JavaScript wait() on video load? Pretty annoying though!
Unbelievable
LOL. Watching Peyton lose is great :-)
Don't know why I tweeted that when I am just about to go to bed. Force of habit I suppose
what if you're watching on a tablet, but commenting on a desktop? or vice-versa.
I love watching him when he has the whole game in his hand. No-one like him. But this is ppainful
always worth a plug. i'll be around for a little longer.
The Falcons defence is pulling some very clever moves. They are absolutely on their game
Then they will sync, but the user will be really annoyed at having to wait 20 secs for video to load on desktop
hehe
I'm not watching the game, but I wanted to say I'm happy you guys are! *waves*
ooh, you wanna delay desktop users? if someone has tv and is commenting on a desktop, you can't penalise them. it's gonna get messy.
*waves back*
Well, would make it sync. But yeah, makes a mess for Freeview. But FreeSat will only be about 5 seconds out ;-)
I wish I wasn't watching. I had planned t be in bed an hour ago but I thought I would take the chance to see Manning with his new team. I think they need to practise together a little longer. In five years they will be good
oh, disappointing. I haven't seen him in his Bronco uniform yet.
Neither have any of his receivers so far
heheheh ehehe!!!
haha!
There was a huge gap for that running back right up until he reached it when it disappeared
Bad, bad time to do a false start
7 and a half minutes to get a first down then a second on the very next play
3 first downs in a row. It's suddenly becme very easy
oooooooops
I don't believe it
you jinxed that
i haven't seen many games, but i've never seen anything like this. you sure you wanna sleep?
I think it is the long passes that are jinxed. He needs to keep it short until they figure out what the defence are doing
I have to. I missed work on Friday so I can't not be there tomorrow. I had manflu though so it was OK to miss it. Went to bed 6pm Thursday and didn't wake till 11am Friday. Slept 17 hours straight
blimey!
I hope you feel better soon, Steven.
John Elway watching the play on a screen. Elway won 2 Superbowls as QB of the Broncos and is now the executive who signed Manning
I am fine now. Last week I was a mess. Thursday I was sitting in my office almost asleep between coughing and sneezing fits. After my little sleeep on Thursday night I was ten times better
I'm glad you're better.
You are very kind.
I need to go to bed. I hope the Broncos get a bit better to make the game more interesting for you all.
and then you wrote a column? wow.
cheers sir.
I should go to bed, too. Sleep is a great defense against the germs that are around.
See you guys later.
bye!
Damn alarm didn't go off, should bother now?
err... i'm not qualified to answer that. there's lots of game still to play, if that's what you mean?
Beginning to think the interesting game isn't the teams, but is instead the officials trying to get control of the game back. Not looking good in anyone's eyes
hey ya.
now there's too many on the field?
Math is hard.
:)
I was weighing up whether I just wanted to carry on with sleep, and just watch on iPlayer, but I've been got the better of :)
I'm here now.
#blamesidepodcast
w00t! i've never seen so many interceptions in such a short space of time, but aside from that you've not missed much.
I do / & will
heh
And seeing we've got most of the 2nd to play as well, correct choice made :)
...and we have the officiating crew trucked right over from the local high school
i shall stick with you as long as my eyes remain open :)
:)
What grade were they in?
Not sure, but it's bringing a special nuance to this game
Wow - 4 turnovers already?! And by the same guy!?
Between the replacement officials for NFL and the fact that hockey is on lockout, the world is going directly to crap
manning threw them all. didn't know the same one caught all of them though.
...assuming i have a clue what a turnover is?
I was meaning Peyton, but cba to type his name.
phew
:)
These bits of film are much better
yes! am learning too.
What film are they showing you on BBC? Come to think of it, surprised if they aren't just using the ESPN feed?
They've covered the logo, but I'm sure it's ESPN because the graphics are the same as last night, and they hadn't bothered then.
they've had a few vignettes when ads are on. showing historical stuff. that time was... the vikings going to the superbowl? we have US commentators though.
What I'm doing as well is I've got lined up an NFL podcast to play instead of the dull dull music
perfect.
Interesting. They haven't been showing us the film. They must be doing that when they show us adverts
It is defo something the BBC have put together - it's voiced by a Brit
earlier it was "best catches of 2011"
Consider yourselves lucky, by the way. Some real gems on offer tonight.
espn logo appears top left on replays. not covered.
Ahh yes - the one with the score has been dealt with this week
Broncos have to get it together for the second half. First five min of 3rd quarter will tell the tale
Are they do receive after the half?
you went to the same school as the officials ;)
Fingers still asleep it seems ;)
Truth be told I'm not sure. Who received the first quarter? I didn't have TV privileges at 8:30. Wife and son had control.
i know this... wait...
manning started off throwing. before the first interception. that help?
In fact - the NFL podcasts all have no music behind them, so i can keep the sound up, and really miss nothing.
Yes. Atlanta receives after the half
w00t! (i'm a bit lost without kai or steven commenting)
Part of the reason I'm up - I realised that I'd not actually watched any of the games that I'd set up right at the top ;)
Oh dear God!
:)
Is Manning now operating like the Denver of last year - and he's waiting for Tebow time for a 4th quarter comeback
This is going to be the problem with the early season here. With the substitute officials, there is a risk players are going to try a lot of the illegal (ie potentially dangerous) hits
what's the reason for subs officials?
Wages (etc) dispute - instead of the refs striking as such, they've been locked out
Regulars are on strike. I forget why.
Correct. I'm wrong
ahhh.
That was better.
Payton might actually be able to pull something off here
Looks like the refs' deal ran out, and have been wanting more (money / conditions / ... ) - http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2012/05/contract-for-nfl-refs-expires-at-end-of-this-month/1#.UFfaWrJlSZh
.
A lot of that going on. Here's what's going on with hockey: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/16/nhl-lockout-2012-work-stoppage-hockey_n_1887536.html
Apparently the NFL one 'only' comes down do the short end of $20m.
(a year)
wow. pricey
TD!
And no challenges
But plays reviewed inside 2m warning - phew.
fans see what the people upstairs see in realtime?? f1 NEEDS that.
TD indeed! Guess I'll stay up a while. :)
New for this season.
Heehee
...but not for the NFL in the grand scheme - pennies.
Gold stars all round for those refs
:)
Just about time for a fair-catch and a Hail Mary before the half.
Nope, just a poor onside kick attempt
That was awful - all bouncy, but ran the clock out.
need to stretch me legs brb
If these are highlights of this weekend then that is great stuff :) Looks like the Big Plays
It's supposed to go ten yards and stop. Spectacular when it works, but rarely does
They showing you "Soundtracks" or something else?
Ohh yeah, but having the play alive for 6s rant he clock out. A normal onside might leave the receiving team with time to run a play.
The Big Plays from the weekend.
Fair point
Sounds like the BBC is really embracing NFL and even adding their own touches to provide context to the audience. Sounds great!
This is a lot better from the Beeb - looks like they've been listening
Having said that, we're now on the music and boring visuals - still some way to go.
I'm watching an ad for - not kidding - a wireless lightbulb. Care to trade?
Yup - we're back to a SoundFX feature :)
. Alright. Enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvqTUUPzIsk&feature=youtube_gdata_player
By the way, another blown call in the 2-minute drive last quarter
wha?
That bulb is actually a good idea, but the add is 3x too long (and better than some ads that you can see)
yes, you get sound effects features, and the US audience gets late night cheap cable TV adverts
What / where?
yes, but you have to admit to having bought a wireless lightbulb
:)
the ten yards on the pass interference in the end zone was doled out to college rules.
Men-barrassing
That BBC logo being yellow keeps making me think they've thrown a flag
Have to staple some Romex cable running to it for appearances
Standard BBC Sport logo? Yes, that would be the right size and clor
Exactly. Black on yellow. And in the info bar at the bottom.
Officials again
am i going crazy, or did someone literally throw a yellow flag onto the pitch?
Yup, those are penalty flags. Each of the officials has one.
That's what throwing a flag means - they generally do it around the spot of the penalty
*BOOOOM*
:) I find that I start talking in Americanisms when watching / talking about NFL.
btw, i keep forgetting 5live have nlf commentary on sundays. please can someone remind me next weekend!
The Falcons look like the have a very good offensive playbook
I just don't have a comeback for that. :)
Other than I'm sorry.
♥
:) Just like referring to halftime as "The Half" - it's not a problem - I find it amusing
Matt Ryan has the old-school playbook out on the sidelines. Either that or he's reviewing Denver defensive formations.
We all have our quirks.
Truly, this could get ugly pretty quickly
Especially from the 6
I'm expecting a serious blitz - trying for a safety.
..or an interception
Yup or piling on the pressure forcing a mistake
Almost had the safety on that one
Matt Ryan surviving that one
If nothing else, this drive is eating up a lot of time
Nice coverage on that punt
This. Could. Work.
The game is still lost for the Broncos, of course. But there's an outside chance at retaining a little honor.
Not sure they can manage 3 back-to-back TD drives tonight, but maybe 1 and a FG.
..or dignity.
Whatever.
I should go check what the spread was supposed to be
It read fine the first way - knew what you meant. #Consolation
Ha! Works either way. My mental thesaurus wouldn't leave me alone.
Seems like most folks had the Falcons by three points.
We'll not be seeing Manning doing any Brees / Brady dives over the top or Vick underneath.
No, we shall not.
i am sadly gonna have to call it a night. it's been a pleasure though.
I thought we'd lost you a bit ago. Catch you again. (It might have to be Friday)
Enjoy the remaining 2 hrs of sleep. Thanks for putting the feed up again!
My cat just woke up and tried to say "hi" - but I stopped him this time.
Alex Smith is currently a metaphor for Peyton's night - caught with his pants down.
Ha!
^^ Matt Ryan - oops
Yes, but he's starting to do that hurry up thing. Will it work this time?
Not if he wastes plays running them into the pile
No worries. I wouldn't be able to get my own name right at 5am
Alex Smith was last night's late night name
Yes, no, this isn't working
More pass-rush pressure rqd on the next play
Punting from the end zone
You're at 4th already?!
Yup. Sorry for the spolier
Prob a minute or so ahead
Commenting > spoilers - I'm not bothered
I'd only just seen the 1st
Ok, perhaps a little more than a minute
Ok, at risk of another spoiler, Payton might be able to get within that 3-point spread
...if he gets a little luck
Lol - I'm not worried
Just refreshed my BBC online page, and gained back that minute.
Go for it?
This is going to end up a little closer than I thought
Yup
Step aside Tebow-Time, Denver now have Manning-Moment (or Peyton-Period).
Manning-Miracle
I'm liking that one more.
Quick, Call the copyright office
Is it 40s per playclock?
I think so?
Yes, 40 seconds. I think we're done.
They need a 1st - ohh they have.
Yup. That's it
Atlanta have nearer 2 minutes to run out 1
Yup, we just had the handshakes on our screens here.
Yup game's up. Manning will rue those 1st 1/4 turnovers.
Falcons took 13 points off turnovers tonight
Interesting watch that. I'm a Chargers fan, so Broncos are divisional, and Falcons are next week.
Yes they did. That's it for me. Go get some sleep. Hope to maybe check in at week's end.
Indeed. We're Patriots fans here, so the year hasnt started well.
Enjoy the week
Ooo errr.
Cool cu then. I'll be signing off as well - nothing left to comment and no one to comment to defos means sleep-time.
