It’s Thanksgiving! And the NFL holiday-schedule means we get 2 big bites at the week-11 cherry, resulting in a veritable glut of games. We have 3 games on Thursday: Houston Texans at Detroit Lions (1730 – Sky Sports); an iconic game for Thanksgiving, Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys (2115 – Sky Sports); and an AFC East rivalry for the ages, New England Patriots at New York Jets (0120 Fri am – Sky Sports). Then on Sunday watch out for RB Adrian Peterson busting through the Chicago Bears’ D as they play the Minnesota Vikings (1800 – Sky Sports). Up second, will new ‘superstar’ QB Kaepernick get a bigger role (if not the starting gig) for the 49ers when they travel to play the New Orleans Saints (2125 – Sky Sports)? The late-KO sees two teams both top of their respective NFC divisions, New York Giants host the Green Bay Packers (0120 Mon am – C4). Finally on Monday night expect a tight game when the Carolina Panthers play the Philadelphia Eagles (0130 Tues am – BBC).

    Anyone out there?

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 20:00

Hey there. Currently following this one via GameCenter. Watching the Cowboys vs Indians later.

  • Noelinho22/11/2012 at 20:02

Cool. I had a late meeting at work, but will be home in 10. Then it's NFL until my eyes shut :-)

    I'm not there yet.

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 21:08

Yes, that will be Texans ball. Next score wins.

    Aaaannnd we play on!

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 21:16

I am always a bit behind, because I'm always watching online :-)

So am I, but maybe my source has less delay.

    Ooooooo.

    I am not ;)

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 21:18

And it's Colin Jackson on the field of play

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 21:19

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 21:19

    (Something has happened... but what?!)

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 21:24

    (Something has happened... but what?!)

Pretty sure that could've stayed not overturned.

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 21:28

This OT has everything (apart from any scoring)!

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 21:33

    Seriously?!

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 21:34

    Oh dear.

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 21:35

Maybe I should remind you of the curse of the November tie?

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 21:39

    This. To win it...

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 21:40

Blimey, don't make it by too much. Might look comfortable.

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 21:41

Right, I need a shower, then I'll be back for Washington hosting Dallas.

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 21:41

since their kickoff was delayed by OT anyway.

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 21:43

Seriously close game... Bring on the main event!!

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 22:19

    Nice play.

  • Steven Roy22/11/2012 at 22:48

    That was a bit unnecessary

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 22:49

I am not a fan of the huge numbers on the Cowboy's jerseys

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 22:49

That's gotta be an unneccessary roughness penalty on the Cowboys

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 22:53

Those Indians are currently torching the Cowboys.

  • Steven Roy22/11/2012 at 22:53

RG3 has a QB rating of 156. I have never heard of a QB rating that high. A perfect rating is 150something (158/159?)

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 22:54

    158.3

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 22:54

Oh, it's not incredibly difficult to get the max rating, does happen every now and again. It's 158.3

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 22:54

Haha, I was gutted last week when I completed 24 successive passes, then made a stupid play on the 25th to equal the record!

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 22:55

    Yay. We have people :-)

  • Kai22/11/2012 at 22:55

I'm so happy to see a thread for these games, too. Nice surprise.

    Hi Kai :)

I achieve it often in Madden :D

I have never played Madden but I occasionally play http://www.quickhit.com . It's a nice little online game that has taught me more about formations and tactics than watching the game for 30 years

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 22:56

If you complete 1 of 1, for 13 yards (TD), you have a perfect passer rating :-)

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 22:56

But 1 of 1 for 12 (TD), is not :-)

  • Steven Roy22/11/2012 at 22:57

Hi guys. I'm full. On the couch for football. Good stuff.

Looks like we have a crowd gathering. I assume the score is to your satisfaction?

  • Kai22/11/2012 at 22:57

    YES! Go Redskins!

  • Steven Roy22/11/2012 at 22:57

But 1 of 1 for 12 (TD), is not :-)

    It is a weird system

  • Kai22/11/2012 at 22:57

Looks like we have a crowd gathering. I assume the score is to your satisfaction?

    Yep! :)

  • Steven Roy22/11/2012 at 22:57

    Yep! :)

I sort of guessed that from your previous comment

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 22:58

And Tony Romo has been reasonable at not throwing INTs recently.

  • Kai22/11/2012 at 22:58

I sort of guessed that from your previous comment

    hehe

Yeah, the timing was pretty good, as usual. Glad to see the SPC intuitive connections are still intact.

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 22:59

'Skins trying for another score before the half?

  • Mr C22/11/2012 at 22:59

Looks like we have a crowd gathering. I assume the score is to your satisfaction?

i'm lurking, but don't fancy watching dodgy streams. just following via your comments.

  • Kai22/11/2012 at 23:01

    TD Redskins!

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 23:02

If you complete c.80% of your passes, for an average of 12.5 yards per attempt, and about 15% of throws are touchdowns, with no interceptions, you have a perfect passer rating.

Fact. Aren't you lot glad for my stats?

  • Kai22/11/2012 at 23:02

Great catch. Thrown just behind him, feet right on the line and then falls over out of bounds.

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 23:02

    really? was that in?

  • Steven Roy22/11/2012 at 23:02

'Skins trying for another score before the half?

    And they got it.

Looks like Jerry Jones needs to interfere more in the coaching because it has worked well so far

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 23:02

man, that was nice feet there. TD/

  • Steven Roy22/11/2012 at 23:03

Fact. Aren't you lot glad for my stats?

Where else am I going to get info like that

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 23:03

    And they got it.

:44 - I was thinking of a couple of knees and then running off for a break - that's why I'm not paid the big bucks.

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 23:04

Of course - numbers are the best.

  • Steven Roy22/11/2012 at 23:05

If the management want to make graphs for QB ratings, I'm all for it, but I think Mr C might die of a fit from the QB formula. It's insane.

  • Mr C22/11/2012 at 23:08

    :) :)

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 23:09

    It's ((Competion % - 30 * 0.05 [max value 2.375]) + Yards/attempt minus 3 * 0/25 [max value 2.375) + (Touchdown % * 0.2 [max value 2.375) + (2.375 - (Interception % * 0.25 [min value 0])) / 6) * 100.

    Simples.

  • Noelinho (@Noelinho)22/11/2012 at 23:10

I didn't make it up, honest. But someone was having a really slow day when they made it up!

  • Kai22/11/2012 at 23:10

I didn't make it up, honest. But someone was having a really slow day when they made it up!

I think this is one of those numbers where they made it look like it had to be right because it was so accurate. If they had just used 3 everyone would question it

    I'm sure that's right.

  • Will^22/11/2012 at 23:16

Those constants don't seem really to do much other than normalise what the range of outcome scores is. If they were different then the max would just be a different value and distribution would be altered. #takingthistooseriously

Tomorrow night I am going bowling for the first time in 20 years. I was hopeless then so I am not optimistic that I will be any better now. I wonder if I can find a bowling coach between now and then

It's all about the style with which you knock the pins down. People get incredibly jealous when you can a) knock a lot of pins down and b) put wicked spin on the ball too :-)

I was so far out on their last big announcement leak that the chances of me getting this right are zero. But that won't stop me taking a punt. It could be simple hydrocarbons like methane which would prove there are organic chemical reactions happening. The next step up from that is some kind of organic compound with oxygen in it. Even better than that would be amino acids which are the building blocks of proteins and would prove that the basics for life existed. The only thing better than that would be proof of life. You want another Cowboys TD?

No, one of those is good. :D

Nope. I am watching on TV

  • Steven Roy23/11/2012 at 00:25

  • Kai23/11/2012 at 00:33

You want them to have a little hope then watch as it is knocked out of them

    hehe

I want them to do as well as they can.....and for the Redskins to do a little bit better. I don't enjoy watching blowouts. I start feeling bad for the losers - even for the Cowboys, which is hard for me to believe.

ok, deal. And I can stay up and watch the whole thing if you share a little bit with me so I can stay home on Mondays during the season.

That is rarely a good thing

That is rarely a good thing

It's always disconcerting to see a helmet rolling around on the field.

  • Steven Roy23/11/2012 at 00:55

Field goal made. That makes things difficult for the Cowboys

I think we should have a Cowboys field goal next

I agree that for a young kicker, that was a big kick.

  • Steven Roy23/11/2012 at 00:57

    Interesting fake blitz

  • Kai23/11/2012 at 01:00

To avoid giving the Cowboys another possession?

  • Steven Roy23/11/2012 at 01:10

What difference does that make if he scores a TD. Imagine the Redskins had messed up that snap and the Cowboys had got the ball and scored

  • Kai23/11/2012 at 01:10

    And that's it. 38-31 Redskins.

  • Kai23/11/2012 at 01:11

Yeah, I don't know. It was weird. That was the only reason I could think of.

Turned out to be a closer game than I expected

Sweet dreams. See you around this weekend.

  • Will^25/11/2012 at 20:05

The Pats boat-raced that one 49-19.

Currently Bears 25-16 most of the way through the 3rd.

Hey there - what are we watching tonight?

  • Steven Roy25/11/2012 at 20:39

Chuck Pagano the head coach of the Colts has Leukemia. All his players have had their heads shaved to support him and now the chear leaders hare having their down live on TV.

  • Will^25/11/2012 at 20:39

Hey there - what are we watching tonight?

'9ers-Saints is the 'featured game', and I will have the (Ravens-)Chargers on as per usual (for my sins)

  • Steven Roy25/11/2012 at 20:39

Hey there - what are we watching tonight?

Bears-Vikings on just now but I am not really watching that. Saints-49ers just after 9pm

OK, I'm just watching Falcons-Bucs. Bucs just missed a FG to take the lead with 3:35 to go.

  • Noelinho25/11/2012 at 20:43

Looks like the Steelers signed a new quaterback - or is it their 3rd string? Charlie Batch

  • Noelinho25/11/2012 at 21:12

didn't their backup end up injured last week?

  • Will^25/11/2012 at 21:12

Looks like the Steelers signed a new quaterback - or is it their 3rd string? Charlie Batch

They only had 2 on the roster, so signed Batch back (he played for them last year). Essentially 3rd choice yes.

  • Will^25/11/2012 at 21:13

didn't their backup end up injured last week?

Leftwich injured his ribs by falling on the ball after a scramble into the endzone

  • Noelinho25/11/2012 at 21:15

Ah, ok. So should I watch Baltimore-San Diego, or St. Louis-Arizona?

  • Will^25/11/2012 at 21:15

    I'm watching the Ravens-Chargers game...

  • Steven Roy25/11/2012 at 21:17

He is third choice. 38 years old according to Sky

Once you have spent more than two hours on SPC time zones have no meaning

  • Steven Roy25/11/2012 at 21:57

Haven't heard of one of those happening in a while. What's going on?

They only cut to it briefly. One of the Raiders hit one of the Bengals who was most displeased then one of the bigger Bengals came in to protect him and there was a bit of a scuffle

No, it's a Texans reaction. Means we have to wait another week to secure our play-off spot.

Looks like we were the only team able to clinch a playoff spot this weekend if results had gone our way. We'll get it next week though, hopefully.

Assuming our games at the Titans doesn't turn into a hot headed excuse for fisticuffs which we come out the wrong side of... >_>

It comes with the territory. I think they're right to be concerned about a younger, less experienced QB dealing with it.

  • Steven Roy25/11/2012 at 22:16

It comes with the territory. I think they're right to be concerned about a younger, less experienced QB dealing with it.

They have to try to help him deal with it. Don't know why they don't just put a little electric shock device in all the playes socks and buzz them to start the play

  • Kai25/11/2012 at 22:19

As stated earlier, neither of these are my team so I'm not bothered by spoilers. Spoil away :)

Delays are always a problem. If you comment live the person with the biggest delay gets a load of spoilers. If you hold off to avoid spoilers by the time the last person sees anything everyone else has moved on and forgotten about it so you get no comments.

  • Noelinho25/11/2012 at 23:01

yeah, it's a pain. On Monday night, it was just me and Mr C, so he paused the TV until we were synced :-) Not so easy when > 2

  • Will^25/11/2012 at 23:02

Is the magnitude of delay worse with NFL than F1?

  • Noelinho25/11/2012 at 23:02

Is the magnitude of delay worse with NFL than F1?

Sky Go is just awful. It's completely arbitrary.

  • Noelinho25/11/2012 at 23:03

Gamepass, on the other hand, is awesome. Always on time, never buffers, full HD, 4 streams at once.

  • Noelinho25/11/2012 at 23:03

    oh, and cheaper.

  • Steven Roy25/11/2012 at 23:04

It's difficult especially when there is something like Game Centre that people look at too.

  • Jay (@burwellian)25/11/2012 at 23:04

    But lacks F1 :p

I'm tempted to get Gamepass, but won't be this season.

  • Will^25/11/2012 at 23:05

I'm tempted to get Gamepass, but won't be this season.

I might if they make another price offer for later in the season/post-season.

  • Jay (@burwellian)25/11/2012 at 23:06

I might if they make another price offer for later in the season/post-season.

I don't tend to work Sundays (1 in every 4) so if they do an offer, I may trial it... (Go Texans **cough**)

  • Jay (@burwellian)25/11/2012 at 23:06

I work too many matchdays for my soccer team's video feed to be worthwhile even if it did work well...

  • Noelinho25/11/2012 at 23:07

    But lacks F1 :p

Well, F1 don't sell rights directly to fans. #silly

i think it's a short term issue though. things like gamepass are where live sports are going. if it becomes the norm, everyone will be on the same page. hopefully

  • Kai25/11/2012 at 23:09

    Great run.

  • Kai25/11/2012 at 23:10

    TD 49ers

  • Steven Roy25/11/2012 at 23:10

    Just made it

Hope so. Think we're about 4-5 years away with F1 though.

  • Will^25/11/2012 at 23:12

Is it just me, but are the '9ers more likeable with Kaepernick at the helm?

  • Noelinho25/11/2012 at 23:12

    With me, it's just you.

agreed. all depends on tata and what crazy deals bernie has done. am relying on nfl/nba/mlb to lead the way.

  • Kai25/11/2012 at 23:15

    wow. haha

  • Steven Roy25/11/2012 at 23:15

Unbelievable couple of plays. What a turn around

  • Noelinho25/11/2012 at 23:15

    Pcik

  • Noelinho25/11/2012 at 23:16

    oh, and a TD

    MLB... Don't start me...

  • Kai25/11/2012 at 23:16

ooh, glad Colston is ok. Landed on his neck/head.

That slow mo zoom stuff is incredible.

  • Jay (@burwellian)25/11/2012 at 23:17

I'm not, but it was becoming habitual to watch it each day when I was visiting family in the US in April... and I kinda kept track of the team since.

  • Will^25/11/2012 at 23:17

Brees has now thrown 2 TDs for both teams.

  • Jay (@burwellian)25/11/2012 at 23:18

We have live commented a few games but the first one we did was a total dud so a lot of people who could have become interested just decided baseball was boring

  • Jay (@burwellian)25/11/2012 at 23:19

Oh, and our team was going so well... until the last week of the season.

    **puts on Rangers cap**

  • Steven Roy25/11/2012 at 23:20

I think we should have another go at introducing sidepodcast to baseball next season.

  • Noelinho25/11/2012 at 23:23

I think we should have another go at introducing sidepodcast to baseball next season.

I don't understand the appeal of Baseball. Thus, I think it's boring.

  • Steven Roy25/11/2012 at 23:24

    WOW!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kai25/11/2012 at 23:24

Man oh man, what a CATCH!

  • Steven Roy25/11/2012 at 23:24

I don't understand the appeal of Baseball. Thus, I think it's boring.

The first time I tried to take an interest I thought it was incredibly dull. Next time I tried I got a few good games in a row and was hooked

    WOWSERS...

  • Mr C25/11/2012 at 23:27

for me it wasn't the game, just lack of time. i could watch more baseball, but only at the expense of nfl. nba has free coverage on the apple tv, but i can't even keep up with the highlights.

  • Noelinho25/11/2012 at 23:28

I would implore you not to watch less NFL!

  • Steven Roy25/11/2012 at 23:29

for me it wasn't the game, just lack of time.

That is always the problem. I would love to see a lot more baseball than I do but I don't have 162 lots of 3 or 4 hours to spare

  • Mr C25/11/2012 at 23:29

I would implore you not to watch less NFL!

don't intend too. there's just so few hours and so many sports :)

  • Jay (@burwellian)25/11/2012 at 23:29

Baseball is played most days as well during the season. Which days do you pick... :/

  • Jay (@burwellian)25/11/2012 at 23:30

  • Noelinho25/11/2012 at 23:39

  • Jay (@burwellian)25/11/2012 at 23:39

i give sky a lot of grief, but they really are a hopeless case when it comes to streaming.

  • Noelinho25/11/2012 at 23:40

but at least i can see what's going on now, resolution on desktop was about 2px by 1px

    always.

  • Steven Roy25/11/2012 at 23:43

    Omaha?

It's a Giants call that says the play clock is almost at zero so we are going with what we have now. That is twice I have heard Brees using it tonight.

  • Kai25/11/2012 at 23:43

You are going to trust my memory?

    Google calendar FTW

    Ahhh...

  • Steven Roy25/11/2012 at 23:44

    Ahhh...

You will often hear Eli screaming OMAHA OMAHA OMAHA. Brees only says it once

  • Steven Roy26/11/2012 at 00:02

Penalty. Has to be.. Can't believe they didn't give that. Couldn't be any more obvious

  • Jay (@burwellian)26/11/2012 at 00:03

    Blatant pass interference...

  • Steven Roy26/11/2012 at 00:13

    We have flags

  • Steven Roy26/11/2012 at 00:14

That pass was almost perfect but the receiver let it go through his hands

  • Jay (@burwellian)26/11/2012 at 00:16

    Come on Saints... :/

  • Jay (@burwellian)26/11/2012 at 00:17

9ers challenge? The call on the field looked correct to me...

  • Steven Roy26/11/2012 at 00:18

Every time that Jaguar advert stats on Sky I think it is Tooned

  • Steven Roy26/11/2012 at 00:21

    Brees needs better protection

  • Steven Roy26/11/2012 at 00:22

    More wrestling and no flag

  • Steven Roy26/11/2012 at 00:23

KILL KILL KILL from Kaepernick. Wonder what he saw

  • Kai26/11/2012 at 00:23

KILL KILL KILL from Kaepernick. Wonder what he saw

    I wondered the same thing.

  • Steven Roy26/11/2012 at 00:25

Especially as the run lost them a yard. Would have been better sticking with the pass and incompleting - New sidepodverb

  • Jay (@burwellian)26/11/2012 at 00:25

I missed the call, I assume the ruling on the field was upheld...

  • Steven Roy26/11/2012 at 00:25

I missed the call, I assume the ruling on the field was upheld...

    Which call?

  • Jay (@burwellian)26/11/2012 at 00:26

    Which call?

The 49ers challenge for the fumble/down on contact

  • Kai26/11/2012 at 00:26

The 49ers challenge for the fumble/down on contact

    Yes. Ruling on field upheld

  • Kai26/11/2012 at 00:27

    oops

  • Jay (@burwellian)26/11/2012 at 00:27

That is one of the worse field goal attempts I've seen...

  • Jay (@burwellian)26/11/2012 at 00:27

To be fair, it was fairly long range though.

  • Mr C26/11/2012 at 00:56

sorry. live threads aren't designed for long running events. comments should be okay until tuesday now.

  • Will^26/11/2012 at 21:58

No Tuesday morning game for me this week - need more sleep.

Have people come across the NFL podcast that BBC's Fletch and SS' Neil Reynolds do? It's called In The Huddle, and rivals the American produced output.

  • Noelinho27/11/2012 at 01:30

    Anyone there tonight?

  • Noelinho27/11/2012 at 01:34

Not my favourite game, but I was up anyway

  • Noelinho27/11/2012 at 01:39

Comment if you're there. Otherwise, I'll stay quiet.
