Here we have what the BBC are calling a "tantalising Group B clash", which could be because these were the top two goal-scoring nations of the qualifiers. What kind of crazy score might we see this evening? Our highest goal tally so far is 4, I'm sure we can do more. Germany and the Netherlands have met each other a whopping 38 times, with Germany winning 14 of those clashes and the Netherlands 10. It's also interesting to note that Germany's team that beat Portugal last match was the youngest the country has fielded.

This is the match of the tournament, easily. Proper international rivalry. Oh I can't wait.

Apparently it's the biggest in the world! (Or is that slightly hyped?!)

It could well be... um... Brazil-Argentina maybe?

  • Will^13/06/2012 at 18:07

It could well be... um... Brazil-Argentina maybe?

I was thinking that. Although the biggest rivalry I came up with was East-Germany v West-Germany.

    Juergen klinnsmann was a legend.

Never bee a 0-0 (in a competitive matchup)

  • Christine13/06/2012 at 18:42

    Wheres the Italian one afterwards?

If Germany played Italy I would actually die!

  • Christine13/06/2012 at 18:43

Somehow they've found a whole new shade of yellow!

  • Will^13/06/2012 at 18:44

So long as the Germans are drawn 'away' (Their anthem seems to come first).

  • Will^13/06/2012 at 18:45

Is the shade different because the ref is a Swede

  • Rubbergoat13/06/2012 at 18:45

Is the shade different because the ref is a Swede

Yes. It's darker and more gothic.

  • Christine13/06/2012 at 18:45

So long as the Germans are drawn 'away' (Their anthem seems to come first).

I was gonna ask how they decide who gets to wear their proper colours/kit/uniform/strip, but you have answered my question.

For some reason I recall disliking the Ozil chap but I don't know why.

Just do what my dad does and go out of the room. It never fails!

  • Will^13/06/2012 at 18:56

Either - it would stretch the game, and free-flowing football is the best to watch.

I always liked 3 at the back. Most teams play 1 or 2 strikers so why have 4 defenders

  • jwcrummett13/06/2012 at 20:12

Our commentators said the last time the Netherlands didn't make it out of group play was in 1980 when in the second game they lost to West Germany.

  • Mark13/06/2012 at 20:12

    3-5-2 would be my fav

    So you're backing the Italians?

  • jwcrummett13/06/2012 at 20:13

  • Ryan13/06/2012 at 20:15

    It was alright...

  • jwcrummett13/06/2012 at 20:15

OMG, just had a proper blonde moment watching football. Didn't understand earlier why Heitinga had a backwards E on the back of his shirt...

  • Mark13/06/2012 at 20:19

How many times can Pearce mention how young this German side are?

  • jwcrummett13/06/2012 at 20:19

    Oh..

    love those numbers. #wantone

  • jwcrummett13/06/2012 at 20:19

I had a pun about Klose earlier but the Dutch scored when I started to type it.

  • Steven Roy13/06/2012 at 20:20

    Never a penalty

  • Steven Roy13/06/2012 at 20:21

The Dutch forwards would get on a lot better if one of them would make a near post run instead of being on their heels in the middle waiting for the ball

  • Mr C13/06/2012 at 20:22

right in front of the ref. #sheesh

  • Steven Roy13/06/2012 at 20:22

That was almost intelligent for de Jong

    ... as in for Ozil

    oooooooh. hi there.

  • Ryan13/06/2012 at 20:24

Normally he is a good deal less subtle

Usually gets away with it though, especially his chop on Alonso and breaking Ben Arfa's leg.

  • Will^13/06/2012 at 20:24

Have you noticed the announcer reads out the first names when substituting

  • Mark13/06/2012 at 20:25

    Arjen looks very angry.

  • Steven Roy13/06/2012 at 20:25

Have you noticed the announcer reads out the first names when substituting

So that the fans will respond with the surname

  • Will^13/06/2012 at 20:25

So that the fans will respond with the surname

    I like their style

  • Steven Roy13/06/2012 at 20:25

    Arjen looks very angry.

    Looks very disgruntled

  • jwcrummett13/06/2012 at 20:27

So apparently we have a student-run, university recognized Quidditch group here on campus.

  • Mr C13/06/2012 at 20:27

    optimistic there.

I think thats only the fifth rumour of him leaving this week.

  • Steven Roy13/06/2012 at 20:31

    Suicidal goalkeeping

  • Christine13/06/2012 at 20:32

    Fail!

  • Steven Roy13/06/2012 at 20:32

He needs to get Klose than that to score

  • Ryan13/06/2012 at 20:32

That's why you start with Krul.

  • Will^13/06/2012 at 20:32

    Asking for them to score

  • Will^13/06/2012 at 20:32

He needs to get Klose than that to score

    Ha ha!

  • jwcrummett13/06/2012 at 20:34

He was sad about not starting, but the coach assured him he would put him in Klose to the end of the game.

  • Steven Roy13/06/2012 at 20:36

    Game over

  • Mr C13/06/2012 at 20:36

    good game.

  • Mark13/06/2012 at 20:36

The Dutch have looked half-paced in both games. A lack of drive.

  • jwcrummett13/06/2012 at 20:36

Germans first to move through then?

  • Steven Roy13/06/2012 at 20:37

The Dutch have looked half-paced in both games. A lack of drive.

They were two slow going forward. Didn't look anything like a team that made the final of the world cup two years ago

  • Mr C13/06/2012 at 20:37

Germans first to move through then?

    our tv says no.

  • Will^13/06/2012 at 20:37

If Germany beat Denmark and Netherlands beat Portugal by 2, Netherlands go through.

  • Steven Roy13/06/2012 at 20:38

Germans first to move through then?

Not absolutely certain yet but the Germans never fail to go through a group stage

  • Will^13/06/2012 at 20:38

If Den and Por both win and score enough, then the Germans can be overtaken

  • Mark13/06/2012 at 20:38

    our tv says no.

Only a Hollywood scriptwriter could stop them from getting through here.

  • jwcrummett13/06/2012 at 20:38

    our tv says no.

Ok, I guess if they and NED lose next matches you could have a 3-way tie with 6pts...

  • Mr C13/06/2012 at 20:38

Only a Hollywood scriptwriter could stop them from getting through here.

    true.

  • Will^13/06/2012 at 20:38

Ok, I guess if they and NED lose next matches you could have a 3-way tie with 6pts...

Yup - down to the goal diff in that case

  • Pat W13/06/2012 at 20:43

I had one eye on the game. Not surprised the Germans won as I think they'll win the whole thing, but I am surprised NED are bottom of the table!

I for one am looking forward to the 7 million goals the Irish will concede tomorrow.

Now that could be fun :)
