This week it's all about sweet, sticky buns and fruit loafs and delicious sweet breads. Already I am drooling just thinking about it. The BBC claim they have Paul Hollywood's most twisted technical challenge yet which worries me. The challenges this year have so far numbered more things that I haven't heard of than vice versa. Regardless of how far away from amateur status the show is going, it's still brilliant fun and a delicious watch. Do join in!
The Great British Bake Off - Sweet dough
Published by Christine Blachford on
Reckon I've timed dinner right this evening so as not to be hungry during the bake off. As if!
Evening all.
At the weekend I made strudel http://t.co/NY7n3oc1Wm with apples from my own tree :)
I love the word strudel.
It is a great word, and suits what it is for so well.
Can't believe you still have time for baking, that's not fair at all :)
I've just got in from a very good (and much needed for the wrist) swim and now bake off is going to make me feel fat and hungry.
It's worth it.
When I can get 'everyone' to nap at the same time, then opportunities appear ;) that, combined with a quiet period of work... plus strudel is ridiculously easy (in comparison to other bakes).
You did the exercise first, that's very worthy.
Yay, it begins.
paul's already not impressed.
sue does a good 1940's voice
yay for bake off :)
Plumpcious.
Mum and I have got into the tasty heaven that is sour dough, i know this is sweet dough week, but i just want to make sour dough now..
chai tea cake?!!!
oh my! hmmmmm
i'm not here and i'm not commenting on a baking show. i am however making sure coding changes released earlier haven't broken anything.
so really this is testing, with bonus sweet bread.
I was wondering about that sue...
Mary looks totes baffled at the concept of hemp.
Is Howard trying to sneak in hash brownies?
Exactly what I was thinking!
Cheeky Howard.
Watching Paul and the teacher talk is like watching him talk to a mirror :)
Oiling the boards has not worked for me before. It's also yucky to touch.
Ruby's not winging it this time.
today's dough episode is a good opportunity to use a famous expression of annoyance by Homer Simpson as a pun, and of course that is "BART!!"
...no wait, that's not the right one...
"Why you little..."
That one?
Clearly that's the one!
these two are crazy! but awesome. I want Chai tea loaf.
I've never had bara brith :(
I've let my country down. Especially Blaenavon.
TEA? in a CAKE?
it's quite tasty, i think you'd like it
what next, garlic in bread?!
GARLIC? BREAD?
:)
Or cheese in a cake!!!`
there is a food festival here next week, they always have a bakery area in it. I'll have to keep an eye out.
(I say that, i'm just expecting someone from iceland to push out a freezer in the high street)
there's no cheese in cheesecake. you can't convince me of that. i just saw tea going into cake, with my own eyes.
mahooosive cookie.
Poor baker toy!
Mmmm. That thing from Nero.
Gaffa tape fixes everything.
go to the food festival anyway, there are always tasters at the sort of thing. We used to make a lunch out of the tasters at the farnham one :)
If you can't duck it... ;)
Oh gosh that looks amazing.
Wow - skills
We need smellovision.
Howard hug.
aw i like this years bake off contestants, they're all helping each other through it :)
Just seen someone call Howard's hemp cake 'Baking Bad'. Genius,.
"It looks like it's going to be rather good for me."
That bara brith does look yummy
♥
Ohh wow!!
What's it with the brass is the background?
Mary and Paul have a tiny orchestra following them around
swot
I love that one - cinnamon is amazing :D
a what now?
an Apricot cor-what?
Ooooh, giant donut.
cronut
That is on my list of things to experiment with
I wonder if they are just making up things now for these challenges :)
This is going to be interesting
Prove it. I like that one.
Howard has a giant one!
They all look very different
It looks a lot nicer than it sounds.
i really wanna try one of those, can someone make me one?
This I could almost be tempted to bake.
Seems like when you don't know what it really is you have less pressure on yourself what to expect of it, they all came out great
They all look delicious, and their success makes me think I could get close.
Good effort on the pun
woohoo!! one for the list :)
Howard's got to really pull it out the bag on this one.
come on howard!
Oh brioche! That surprised me how tasty that was
Half an hour isn't long to sort your dough out. But then four hours tomorrow is massive.
They've headed off to bred and should be fresh as a flour this morning
Schnecken. Brilliant.
they are seriously making things up now
Kanelbullen.
I remember the days when they used to make white loaves and chocolate chip cookies :)
Baumschnecken!
"This week, Paul looks for the best dumboflugel amongst the group..."
Kanelsurrrer.
Camel snorer?
Baking Ninja sounds like a tremendous job
so many more shots of them drinking tea this year. love it
The alcoholic one is popular.
Sue's lines are brilliant
tonight we've had drugs and booze.
a new direction for GBBO
hot cross brioche!
I can't help but think that, with all these exotic and worldwide types of bakery thingies, I'd be the one at the back going 'Well Mel, I'm making a sausage roll."
You'd get my vote :)
"Tell us about your three tier cake."
"No, I made a sausage roll."
It's a winning tactic
That sally bun is massive.
Christine's buns are very brown indeed.
Mmmm. When bread starts going brown.
This is making me want to bake Chelsea buns, this evening.
send me one ;)
Oooo err :S
disaster!!
Uh oh!
Jammie dodgers!
The peachy buns look awesome¬!
Shame about the taste
Don't apologise before giving it to them!
Lesson learned, Ruby. Just don't talk!
Ruby for this week's win!
Put them on a plate and run away for your own sake because it's not as bad as she always thinks it will be!
I love that drizzle on top of the ice bun.
Poor Glenn :(
i hope its not Glenn!
nooooo
I didn't want Howard to go but then I didn't want Glenn to go more.
It's getting tough.
He has done well to last this long, so many scrapes.
aww, howard's lovely.
Keep it to yourself, Ruby!
I love how Mary just basically told Ruby to shut up
PROFITEROLES!
I LOVE Religious! hmmmm SO GOOD!
Hehehe, love it.
Mel just outdid that
"Next week, the remaining bakers make desserts, drama in the chocolate department and Luke makes another batch of sausage rolls."
Although I know which from that list I'd go back for 2nds and 3rds of ;)
I'd like to be the head of the chocolate department.
