The men take centre stage today (and Centre Court!) as Roger Federer prepares to face Novak Djokovic in the first semi-final, before Andy Murray arrives to play Jo-Wilfred Tsonga. As discussed in the comments so far, whatever happens it's going to make a fascinating final. Of all four players, I can't decide who to cheer for! Meanwhile, there are some ladies doubles on Court 1, with the Williams sisters playing in the semi-final. Serena Williams needs to save her strength for tomorrow's final, though, as she'll play Agnieszka Radwanska.

roger gets the first break, he is looking slightly better at the moment, although i am hoping for a 5 set classic.

i am going to tough it out because i've never been a roger jinx but i might have to check my friend pj isn't watching, she jinxes him all the time.

  • Amy06/07/2012 at 12:52

    sort out your forehand, roger

  • Amy06/07/2012 at 13:31

Roger with more break points in this set but not actually converting them. grrrr. #classicroger

  • Amy06/07/2012 at 13:43

dammit Roger, you've "gone off the boil"

  • Amy06/07/2012 at 13:50

  • Amy06/07/2012 at 14:00

yay, break! now, he just has to hold for a billion more games.

also, it is so odd that roger will be #1 if he wins the final.

  • lou06/07/2012 at 14:00

This match is going super quickly! 4th set already!

have you chosen who to support in the next match?

    hint: the answer is tsonga

  • lou06/07/2012 at 14:03

have you chosen who to support in the next match?

no :( i just can't choose! I love them both! its good because i'll be happy with whatever the result, unlike most other people in the uk

although i did manage to get my housemate into tennis this week, turns out she is in love with Tsonga now :)

  • Journeyer06/07/2012 at 14:05

have you chosen who to support in the next match?

Might actually root for Murray - I reckon he'd be the easier foe for Fed. After all, Roger won't be carrying a 75-year curse on his shoulders...

As much as I want Fed to win on Sunday, if I were to choose between him winning this or getting indiv gold at the Olympics, I'd prefer he win the medal. That's the only thing he hasn't won yet.

  • Amy06/07/2012 at 14:40

    Rufuuuuuus

me too since I'd get to see it. There won't be too many people in the world who could say they'd seen him win a slam and a gold medal :D

  • john06/07/2012 at 14:42

federer too good, hopefully he takes it out now, dont think i could handle a murray win. hang on, woah blue sky

  • Amy06/07/2012 at 14:58

In the Aussie bets Andy paying $1.40 and Jo paying $2.95. Thought they'd be closer than that.

  • lou06/07/2012 at 14:59

I saw a website comparing Princess Kate to Kim fashion wise from the other day. It was odd. They were getting annoyed that Kate wore the same outfit last year. It was a really nice dress tho, if i were her i'd wear it twice too!

all the stories about Kate recycling fashion and how its so vulgar of her to wear something *gasp* twice, then the very next day there being stories like 'her yearly wardrobe cost was 50,000 pounds, outrageous!' She really can't win!

  • lou06/07/2012 at 15:03

i'm in an awful situation where i dont want either player to be broken..

got murray at $3 for a straight sets win, probably wont happen but i had a little to play with, had a win earlier with grosjean fastest in 1st practice (at $19) which was nice

ah, was that when soderling ended up beating nadal, would have been pretty good odds for roger then.

  • Will^06/07/2012 at 15:09

Come on Tim! (That is what we shout, yes?)

  • lou06/07/2012 at 15:09

    this is a distressing game.

  • Amy06/07/2012 at 15:10

ah, was that when soderling ended up beating nadal, would have been pretty good odds for roger then.

yeah he was paying $7 or something so i thought 'why not' and I thought I'd quit while I'm ahead after that haha

i'm happy for Tsonga but sad for murray.. and vice versa when murray brakes Tsonga.

however... there is a small part of me that would like Murray to get to the final....

  • Amy06/07/2012 at 16:26

however... there is a small part of me that would like Murray to get to the final....

  • Amy06/07/2012 at 17:14

  • Journeyer06/07/2012 at 17:16

  • Amy06/07/2012 at 17:21

    wow that was odd Tsonga.

I do not know the meaning of a day off. I figured all the free stuff would be super crowded so I'll stick to the things I have tickets for and let the ticket-less have a go :)

I wonder if it is possible for his Britishness to get any higher

hes been remarkably British all year!

  • lou06/07/2012 at 17:28

    no tripping over Murray!!!

  • lou06/07/2012 at 17:29

ohh wow.. they both really want this! diving everywhere!

  • Steven Roy06/07/2012 at 17:30

I heard an interesting fact today that puts things into context. The last man to lose to a British man in a Wimbledon semi-final was killed at the battle of Stalingrad.

  • lou06/07/2012 at 17:30

    Murray pull yourself together!

  • Amy06/07/2012 at 17:33

Radwanska has a respiratory illness and withdrew from doubles to have as much recovery time as possible before the final.

    Serena, you got this.

  • Steven Roy06/07/2012 at 17:33

Twice in a row Tsonga has picked a shot to inject a lot of pace into and Murray hasn't returned either

  • Christine06/07/2012 at 17:35

Having to watch on silent to get some Friday chores done. Without the cheers of the crowd, I don't know when to look up!

  • Amy06/07/2012 at 17:35

I seriously judge people who laugh at the rubbish that gets called out in tennis stadiums. Its the same stuff at every single match. ITS NOT ORIGINAL NOR FUNNY.

  • Steven Roy06/07/2012 at 17:36

when we were at Queens people were shouting really annoying things. My friend and i even told someone off who was sat behind us cause they kept shouting.

Where that patch of sun is, I can't see the ball.

  • Christine06/07/2012 at 17:38

Where that patch of sun is, I can't see the ball.

Still, shouldn't complain. It is the sun, after all.

  • lou06/07/2012 at 17:39

  • Journeyer06/07/2012 at 17:51

Roger says he has a bit of pressure because theres a few records riding on him winning

They'd pale in comparison to that 76-year drought, no? :)

  • Amy06/07/2012 at 17:51

They'd pale in comparison to that 76-year drought, no? :)

depends how much you like records/hate Sampras haha

  • Steven Roy06/07/2012 at 17:52

They'd pale in comparison to that 76-year drought, no? :)

Murray has beaten the expectation on him. Roger hasn't until he wins the final

  • john06/07/2012 at 17:52

is the final on during the grand prix or does it start later?

  • Amy06/07/2012 at 17:52

  • Steven Roy06/07/2012 at 17:53

Love the way Tsonga handled himself in the bit of the match I saw. I would be asking for points for him if Christine did tennis rankings

  • john06/07/2012 at 17:53

    same time

i had a feeling that was the case.

  • lou06/07/2012 at 17:53

Madness. I need another computer to stream the tennis.

The race will probably be delayed by rain anyway

would have been a long time since the number 1 and 2 seeds in both the mens and womens draw missed out on making the final of a slam.

    Australian Open 2008 I think

  • john06/07/2012 at 18:05

    Australian Open 2008 I think

oh ok well not all that long ago.

  • Amy06/07/2012 at 18:07

oh ok well not all that long ago.

17 slams in the meantime is quite a few though! Sums up the mens dominance really because there must have been many times when the 1+2 women didn't make it, considering Woz was #1 for more than a year.

  • john06/07/2012 at 18:09

we can blame rogers glandular fever for that. ahh, i remember those days when everyone thought novak was a 1 slam wonder.
