If you're missing the track and field events from the Olympics, then look no further, the Commonwealth Games have arrived. Their tagline: "17 sports. 11 days. 1 place to be." With similar events such as gymnastics, cycling and badminton, the games provide for all kinds of tastes, although there are fewer than in London and other Olympic schedules. Glasgow presents a great opportunity for smaller nations to have their chance in the spotlight, including the dissolution of Team GB into England, Scotland and Wales. If you're looking for a place to hang out during the week and a bit of Commonwealth action, then you've found the spot!

    yay, more live sporting!

bbc are apparently planning on streaming up to 15 different channels for this. mind you, that was before iplayer died at the weekend,.

  • Amy23/07/2014 at 12:47

I kind of miss when I was super into the Commonwealth Games. Were they more relevant 15 years ago or was I just younger?

Either way, I'll watch what I can :D

i think this might be my first ever. so in my case, more relevant. although predictably, that's just cause the comments coerce me into watching.

I guess it's different when they're being held close to home too. I'm not sure the BBC would give 15 channels if they were back in Kuala Lumpur :D

    It's like a Minilympics!

We have a work sweepstake and whichever sport gets the most golds and silvers for Wales wins. I have swimming, so I think I should be off to Glasgow to enter myself.

  • Amy23/07/2014 at 13:14

I do like that my country gets waaaaay more medals than we do at the Olympics. Take that USA and China!

  • john23/07/2014 at 13:24

greetings fellow members of the commonwealth.... is that it????

decent coverage here, the same as the winter olympics earlier this year so there should be plenty to watch. probably looking forward to the track cycling, athletics, swimming and netball the most.

  • Will^23/07/2014 at 19:01

Good evening. I'm feeling very Olympic Commonwealthy today!

  • Mr C23/07/2014 at 19:26

PS How can we get France as part of the Commonwealth?

    invade them.

if we start tonight they'll probably surrender in time for the first event.

  • Amy23/07/2014 at 20:14

world cup ceremony set an all time low. can't be hard to beat a muted pitpull singing a song no-one knows.

from what I remember of the Melbourne ceremony it was very cringey, and the Gold Coast has even less to fall back on. The might all come out dressed as Steve Irwin.

  • Lukeh23/07/2014 at 20:14

I don't think this really happens in Glasgow

  • Amy23/07/2014 at 20:15

Rod's gonna show up any second now isn't he

  • Lukeh23/07/2014 at 20:15

I was wondering if they were actors but thanks to the commentator now I know it's Sheryl

  • Amy23/07/2014 at 20:16

my commentators have no idea whats going on so they only speak for about 20 seconds between segments. definitely not getting a running one.

  • Amy23/07/2014 at 20:20

"in Gold Coast" does not sound gramatically correct.

It's also crazy to think Delhi was 4 years ago. Slow down time. Seems like just yesterday no one wanted to go there.

  • Amy23/07/2014 at 20:53

if India sent the same proportion of their population as these little countries do they'd have to send a team the size of Australia.

you'd think finance minister for a whole country would be enough work for anyone.

Probably more work being treasurer of a bowling club

It was on the swimming. Claire Balding last night was asking what the medal winners got with their medals. She just showed what they are getting and it is a wooden quaich made from elm trees grown in Glasgow.

    Unsafe release :)

    :) :) :)

  • john30/07/2014 at 10:36

    what they do?

a few years back in the world championships,we had a winning relay team disqualified for jumping in the pool before the final team had completed the swim. its funny footage, they found out they were disqualified mid interview after the race, the german team behind misread the board and were jumping around as though they had won, but they only came second, such drama.....

be honest, you're looking forward to thomas and his tiny trunks.

  • Christine01/08/2014 at 17:37

  • Steven Roy01/08/2014 at 18:08

    c'mon roy*

    Yes!

    What?

  • Christine01/08/2014 at 18:21

  • Steven Roy01/08/2014 at 18:22

She just did a countdown to the diving and started at nine. Who does that??

    Maybe NASA should do that

  • Steven Roy01/08/2014 at 18:27

  • Steven Roy01/08/2014 at 18:38

They start the countdown at 9, there are only four pairs competing and they are only giving out 2 medals. This is getting odd

  • Steven Roy01/08/2014 at 18:56

England were last the whole time, and you've missed the one dive that gets them a medal!

I guess if you are going to do a really good dive you do it on your most difficult dive

  • Christine01/08/2014 at 18:58

I think the BBC have only managed to find one man that knows about diving. He's commentated on every single diving session I've seen, and now they've dragged him in front of the camera as well.

  • Steven Roy01/08/2014 at 18:58

Just saw the replay. That was a cracker

  • Mr C01/08/2014 at 19:00

one week of training? that's it?

  • Steven Roy01/08/2014 at 19:04

How can Tom Daley be the experienced one now? I feel so old.

Sport always does that to you. I remember when all the football players were so much older than me. Now half the managers seem to be younger than me. How did that happen?

  • Christine02/08/2014 at 18:38

    Time for more diving!

Just watched Jo Pavey run a fab 5k to get bronze.

  • Christine02/08/2014 at 18:39

    Time for more diving!

    Diving?

I have running in the rain

  • Christine02/08/2014 at 18:50

Crikey that may be the best dive ever. And not just cos it's Tom Daley. No splash or anything. Apparently his next is not so good though.

Their heads get close to the board sometimes. I worry about the handstands, how do they not fall in??

  • Steven Roy02/08/2014 at 19:05

Their heads get close to the board sometimes. I worry about the handstands, how do they not fall in??

There must be times where they try to get up into a handstand and just fall in

  • Steven Roy02/08/2014 at 19:16

Tom Daley is clearly better on his own than with a partner

  • Christine02/08/2014 at 19:17

It's weird to have a commentator that knows what he's talking about. Bang on with every mark. It's a wonder the judges even bother, they could just ask him!

  • Steven Roy02/08/2014 at 19:19

One guy lands on his back then the kid delivers a great dive

  • Steven Roy02/08/2014 at 19:24

  • Steven Roy02/08/2014 at 19:35

Diving from a towel has to be dangerous. Has to be more slippery

  • Christine02/08/2014 at 19:44

Love that textbook dive from Tom.

    Great diving all round really.

  • Steven Roy02/08/2014 at 19:45

Love that textbook dive from Tom.

It was as close to perfect as ou can get.

I am not at all sure that putting a towel down and diving from it makes things better

  • Christine02/08/2014 at 19:47

I am not at all sure that putting a towel down and diving from it makes things better

Is it just a confidence thing? I can't think of a good reason to do it. In some of the pairs, one had a towel and one didn't.

  • Steven Roy02/08/2014 at 19:51

Is it just a confidence thing? I can't think of a good reason to do it. In some of the pairs, one had a towel and one didn't.

I assume they feel they get better grip or that they know there is no water between a hand/foot and the board. Doesn't seem like a good idea to me but I am not about to goa ll the way up there and investigate

  • Steven Roy02/08/2014 at 19:54

  • Will^03/08/2014 at 20:55

"coming up shortly" - that's a bit harsh on Kylie!

i must apologise, any one would think this country is bereft of artistic integrity. at the olympics the english dish out the arctic monkeys, brian may, (lets forget the spice girls) even the who and that bloke who played bass and wrote a few songs for that liverpool based 60s band some may have heard of got a gig. proper musicians, proper songwriters, proper talent. yet who do we dish up, some b grade pop idol contestant from one of those ridiculous 'talent' show rorts that no human should ever be forced to endure, and that talentless karaoke queen kylie..... geez we have alot of talented people here, alot of talanted musicians, songwriters and performers but sadly corporate australia will never get it. sorry about that, we are much better than that i promise......

  • john04/08/2014 at 10:37

great games in scotland, must say saved the commonwealth games to some extent after the abysmal showing in india,

  • Mr C04/08/2014 at 15:14

and that talentless karaoke queen kylie..... geez we have alot of talented people here

best thing to ever come out of australia.

He was her father-in-law in Neighbours because he was Jason Donovan's father. Although Jason Donovan's real father was in the show playing someone else

  • john06/08/2014 at 10:04

He was her father-in-law in Neighbours because he was Jason Donovan's father. Although Jason Donovan's real father was in the show playing someone else

those characters were a while ago, funnily they are still the only neighbours characters anyone really remembers... some of jason donovans finest work there, and im not talking on screen, the off screen scott and charlene story is where it was at....geez, kylie....well played mr donovan. most the nation wanted to, but he did, well played sir.
