Qualifying day is always the best one of the weekend here at Sidepodcast Towers in terms of F1 action, and then Sunday is better for podcasting fun. However, I get ahead of myself. Having seen some Free Practice laps today, are we in a better position to know what to expect?

  • Jaime Alguersuari did okay for his first official day behind the wheel. A small stall during a practice start, and a painfully slow installation lap were his only real misdemeanours throughout the day. He ended both sessions last, but did we expect anything less?
  • Hamilton and Kovalainen were both right up there in terms of pace, with the McLarens both enjoying the same updates finally. The same can be said for Piquet, well, only the bit about the updates. Actually, we must be nice to Piquet as it's his birthday today.
  • Meanwhile Massa became very spin-happy, as he channelled all things Silverstone around the Hungaroring. It wasn't wet, so this was slightly odd to behold, but I guess not exactly surprising. Rob, have a word, would ya?

That'll do it for now. We'll be live commenting our way through today as well, so I hope you will join us for all the sessions you can. I'll see you in the comments.
