The good news with Spa brings back some good memories...

'scuse me lad, have you seen a daily around here somewhere? Oh, this is it? Excellent. That must mean it's Friday, hurrah! How are you this week fellow F1 fans? We're just 7 DAYS!! away from the first practise session in Melbourne and after a long wait we're almost there. Not long now, just keep holding on. That is next week though and for now we look to today. Did you know that on this day in 1965, Alexey Leonov became the first man in history to walk in space? We do love Space here at Sidepodcast and it's such a fascinating subject and one I could listen to all day but there's even more to talk about today!

Paddock News

How much did they Shell out for this deal? - Some good news for the future of the best circuit on the F1 Calendar as Spa has worked out a deal with the fuel giants Shell for it to become the title sponsor of the race, now known as the 2011 Formula 1 Shell Belgian Grand Prix. Nice and short of course. But hopefully it can give further incentive to keep Spa, a circuit that seems to constantly unfairly be in trouble with it's future in the sport. We all love Spa! furthermore, Shell have been in the news here at Sidepodcast making Mr C's day pretty annoying yesterday and he's had a few fair words to say about what this is all about. It was a Thursday after all, they could have chosen a good day! Definitely worth reading Mr C's thoughts though.

Staying Down Under - The news in the past few days has been so much more optimistic in regards to the future of the Australian Grand Prix and this just makes me feel even better further more for this great race to remain on the calendar too. It seems the demand to keep the race is starting to come more positively from the Australian government and quite right, I mean, we need the likes of Amy, Pamela, Jeremy and Paul as well as plenty of other F1 fans down under to get themselves to a grand prix! Plus Melbourne is awesome, what a great circuit. Lots of circuit future news today!

Let's hope they don't get tyred and make bad puns - Our favouritest hedgehog that isn't blue, Pedro De la Rosa of course, has been talking to the media again about the tyres he has tested so much over the last few months with Pirelli and how this year we should expect the drivers placing strategies into their hands rather than the teams. You know, I hope this is indeed the case. I mean, look at Jenson Button last year taking the strategy into his hands at Australia and China and it was genius! It should make for more thoughtful tyre management from the drivers though so who knows how it'll play out...

Festival of Awesomeness sounds catchy to me - It's that time of the year once again where the organisers of the Goodwood Festival of Speed start releasing their details for the year's event, and yesterday Lord March had a vast amount to share with the world at an event at the Goodwood grounds with the announcement of this years theme being ‘Racing Revolutions – Quantum leaps that shaped motor sport'. Quantam Leaps, you say? It seems that 9 Formula 1 teams will be at the 2011 Festival of Speed which is pretty awesome (HRT, Sauber and Toro Rosso I'm thinking are the no-shows?) as well as loads and loads of different forms of motorsport and racing too. Absolutely love Goodwood and hope to be there this year even if just for one day, but I definitely recommend the festival to all.

These are the postcards of an F1 Man - F1 photographer (and seemingly all-round nice chap due to his very friendly assistance helping Bassano with a problem) Paul-henri Cahier has been putting up some fabulous photos this week as we build up towards the new season by posting a photo from each year within the history of F1 at Melbourne. Some of my favourites include the kind of mindblowing fact that Jenson has been in f1 for 11 years now and this awesome flappy-wings Mark Webber photo. I'm not very good with photography related stuff whatsoever but I do really enjoy his stuff!

Money that pays the Sidepodbills - We all know pretty damn well that everything in life seems to cost money. Sadly, this is just a fact of life and Sidepodcast is no different. Mr C puts it pretty honestly in this post that us Brits don't tend to talk about money when asking for it but as always donations towards making Sidepodcast a better place and supporting the infrastructure to keep the podcasts coming are always welcome. I know I'm always happy to help out as I shall be donating myself soon but Mr C puts in far better words than I ever could for the reasoning of his very fair appeal here.

And Finally...

Giving back a bit of thank you to a gaming legend - This week the Videogame BAFTAs took place signalling all the great games that have come out in the last year in the same way the BAFTAS we all know for films and TV works, with a lot of big games getting plenty of awards like Heavy Rain and of course Call of Duty. The one award though that most awesome was the BAFTA Fellowship awarded to Peter Molyneux, who is to me at least a bit of a legend and I was well chuffed to see him get it. He's the genius behind Lionhead Studios and previously Bullfrog Games too and has had some fabulous ideas over the years like the Theme games, Dungeon Keeper, Populous and the Fable series. Yay! Also a huge, huge congratulations to the Codemasters F1 team as they managed to scoop the Sports award despite beating heavy favourites FIFA 11 and Gran Turismo 5. Massive success for these guys in that aspect.

And that's me done for another week. Remember to bring a friend to Sidepodcast in the comments so you can add your name to this already growing list courtesy of Giggles! This weekend I'm going to be heading off to Lou's which even as I write this I'm pretty stupidly excited for so I hope you all have a lovely weekend. I'm going to sign off with a pretty awesome song and video I got shown yesterday of a chap playing a medley of Simpsons songs on his guitar back when The Simpsons was at it's absolute best. Some total classics in there! Have fun, stay safe and remember... not long now!!!!
