Daily: 7th August 2010
6 August, 2010 at 22:53 (GMT+01:00)
Hello and welcome to Saturday! Another week is over and the weekend has begun. There is no racing today, we are diving headfirst into the first weekend of a few without any F1 to consume, but that doesn't mean that everything has stopped. The factories may be shutting down but we don't. We've been getting some impressive lists of bullet points recently, so I've got a lot to live up to. Here are some of the things we're talking about right now:
- Lukeh has spent some more time indulging in some Photoshop action and it's fair to say the results are quite incredible. Mark Webber knew exactly what he was doing when he counted down to that big podium jump, but did it ever cross his mind that he would end up holding shopping bags because of it? I think not. Some excellent work that is bound to bring a smile to your face.
- If you are bored this weekend, why not try your hand at something artistic? Both Lotus Racing and Virgin Racing have initiatives going to get your creative juices flowing, be it taking a photograph or drawing a pretty picture. If you can hold a pencil, you can enter these two projects. I blogged more about it here.
- Before the season got underway, we were worried about how well the dusty Cosworth engine technology would work compared to the up-to-the-minute likes of Ferrari and Mercedes. They've done much better than anticipated, although you would hesitate to call them fast, I think. Manipe has some thoughts about the outcome of a potential deal between Lotus and Renault and what that would mean for both teams.
- It's been quite a big week for Technology, with Google announcing they were shutting down Wave and Amazon opening up their UK Kindle store. I am mostly excited about the second one, because I have the Kindle app on pretty much every device I can find, and just finished another book on there yesterday. I envisage becoming even more poor than I already am thanks to the wonder that is Amazon.
- Mr C pointed me in the direction of this article about a brand new McLaren building. It appears to be a cross between residential apartments and a McLaren car showroom on the ground floor, but what it definitely is is something very posh and expensive. I'll have to hold off a lot of Kindle books to save up for a stay there.
- Finally, a quick word for Franck, who appears to be feeling a bit miserable at the moment. Roll on the next Le Mans event, I say.
That should do it for now. Let us know what you're up to this weekend, and how you plan to spend this mini off-season, and as ever, I will see you in the comments.
it's 11pm.
*looks confused*
Nothing to see here.
meanie! early dailies are not allowed.
I didn't mean to!
Stupid publish button.
Although I am quite enjoying your confusion.
i ought to rewrite that asap. poxy thing.
*frowns*
How long can I leave it up before your head explodes?
i've put my clock forward an hour. it can stay now. hello saturday.
My head is still on french time, but my laptop says its Friday still.
aaaaaah confused
i like that you haven't even bothered to promise a joe show.
*heads back to work*
It's Saturday already?
my clock says 00:30. (now)
Err... ok
I like to get the weekend off to a confusing start.
evening all
how is everyone?
Evening
Struggling with this time travel, to be honest
only 12 mins before the time path is restored to normal
evening, morning, ...
Now I can comment in the new daily without it being wrong. Hello all.
Right I really am going to bed. Night :)
I wonder if Mr C will reset his clock?
It is finally tomorrow!
Night Alison, enjoy your 13 hour shifts ;)
for Christine: Delicious + Panda, courtesy of Flickr's new layout...
Is it Saturday already?
Lukeh, do you fancy a photoshop commision in the next week or two? It's for a good [prank worthy] cause :)
awww the panda is waving to me.
Don;t see why not :)
I'll DM a pic, ta
Q: Is posterous similar to Tumblr in a mini blog kind of way?
Done
No rush, thanks in advance
Got it, will do it for you tomorrow or sunday probably :)
For now I should sleep and prepare myself for a typical silly saturday. Night all
and back....
is it actually Saturday now?
i think you can upload anything like mp3s, on posterous, tumblr is more embedded stuff, and links.
Ace, g'night fella
night lukeh
Ok, crazy blog world
so, i posted this video of a made up rollercoaster, about a couple of years ago. received an email from youtube asking if i wanted to to do this revenue sharing thing.
i thought that it only had about 2k views. checked today, it was over 12,000. It was the worst video i made on there.
just goes to show, people will watch any rubbish
*goes searching for funny cat videos*
Am scared to confirm in case it becomes Sunday or something
Ah I see
Did you sign up for it and how many pennies have you made?
is it lunch time yet?
Yes, what are you having for your lunch today?
John C Dvorak has 1.6 million views for a singing Barney
www.youtube.com/w…tch?v=kIUKrvWZn-Y
Sure, why not
i did, and have to wait 2 weeks, so no pennies, and i reckon it will be fractions of pennies anyway.
not sure, supposed to be meeting a mate of mine - suppose i'll know when i get there an hour ago
I take it Mr C is busy coding
I wondered if he found an alternative desktop twitter client
I think he is still editing the Joe show
#nothere #editingjoe #nope
Ta
Auto Mr C? :)
Yay! Want to hear the new Aside
But, ooh :)
These little things are brilliant, they do them for phones too
http://twitpic.com/2c8t3w
how much for an orange plastic "c"?
A fiver for the iPhone version [3G or S only. 4 coming soon]
£13 for a pair for iPad
British too

Sadly, still a prototype

heath robinson has nothing on me.
(except a talent for drawing)
A friend told me some silly [probably made-up] stat about gerbils running the equivalent of the circumference of the moon in their [short] lifetime
Sounds good, is probably baloney
6790 miles
What's that, downscaled to 'gerbil'? :)
I don't do gerbil I only do reality
Where's the fun in that? ;)
43,709,783
I had enough trouble trying to convert the weight of the atmosphere from elephants to pandas
That's why I thought you'd be perfect for the task
success
just finished the melbourne grand prix on gp3 - a fine 8th place in the sauber, quite pleased but knackered
:)
Not how many gerbils, oh, never mind...
correction
gerbil
The answer you're looking for is "several"
I thought it was quite a few. I was close
Ireckon if you take the size of an average gerbil and compare it to an average person the gerbil equivalent of 6790 would be around 500 miles
So it's probably conceivable that the little blighters could run around the moon in a lifetime
They sure do love those wheels
right folks,
i'm off to bed - good night
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gucvDk0fKaa5DFCujxhcJMbhuLJgD9HE9G2O0
Not this again...
Morning, folks.
facepalm
fixed.
Night Leigh
Night Leigh.
Night Leigh
Hi Journeyer
goodnight Leigh
Just having a quick breakfast. Another packed day for me. Taking care of my sis today. Uni exams and all that.
night leigh, hi journeyer
An average gerbil lives 3 years and averages 10 mph so if it ran for 37 minutes a day it would run 6790 miles
You'd think a person who owns a relatively new Mercedes would get his alarm looked at when it regularly goes off in the middle of the night
For months
It is amazing what one can learn on Sidepodcast at one o'clock in the morning!
Oh they run waaaay more than 37 mins per day :)
But I like your work
:D
It's just like the average speed of an unladen swallow
I know 14.6% more useless crap than I did 2 years ago
Internet fact!
Then you initial proposition is wrong.
[not rising to the bait]
:D
I just rremember there was a moon in there somewhere
Obviously, it's several times round
Yousure you have the right moon?
How long does the average gerbil run for every day?
or they live much less than we think...
I seem to remember from QI that there is more than one.
It's a possibility but am fairly sure he was refer to Lunar
[is that what 'our' moon is called?
{Not Sidepodcast's, obviously}]
There are moons all over the solar system. Some of them as big as the Earth
Sidepodcast will have its own moon one day
how big is button moon?
lou's already on top of it.
You need Lou for that
:D
I gave up searching when I found:
Can gerbils eat pistachios?
Much funnier
[you should only feed them bagged food as a base, and pistachios as treats.]
mr spoon's spacecraft was an empty washing up liquid bottle covered in foil, so, from memory, about 8 times bigger than that maybe?
how would it take the unladen swallow to run around that, while eating pistachios?
*hypothetically speaking of course, swallows waddle.
Well, I found this
The 1979 Moon Agreement was created to restrict the exploitation of the Moon's resources by any single nation, but it has not been signed by any of the space-faring nations
But not it's real name, yet
Unless it is just called 'Moon'
African or European?
depends, because a swallow hasn't got opposable thumbs, so the pistachios would have to be eaten in their "shelled" form. they'd probably just carry on waddling regardless.
about 3 mins .
I ♥ night time discussions on SPC
If this were QI, bells & whistles would be blaring
:D
bob bell whistles?
Obviously
It is!
The proper English name for Earth's natural satellite is, simply, the Moon (capitalized as a proper noun)
en.wikipedia.org/…ame_and_etymology
where'd you buy them then?
Bob's Whistle & Bell Emporium, I guess
google suggests whispering bob harris has some.... i think.
Those whistles are old and greay though
That would startle his audience somewhat
where did the extraneous a come from?
I thought that was just for the test phase?
true enough.
Mr C: did you see the iPad stand-type-thing link?
#MilkyBarAlternative
indeedy, will check that out.
Also, did I see something about the whom to follow feature:
Safari users: irritated by the 'who to follow' feature. There's an extension for that http://tinyurl.com/3yvexcd
Oohh, that reminds me, I need to check out the new rasin & biscuit Milky Bars.
it doesn't irritate me, it makes twitter look stoopid. it keeps recommending people already on my list. severe lack of joined up thinking. i like it suggesting that @insideferrari might be of interest to me, even though i've already tweeted them about 40 times.
hopeless.
It worked wonders for Yorkie, sounds like a good idea to me
Must be smaller pieces though, aren't Milky Bars quite thin?
They exist? Never heard of them. Purple Yorkies on the other hand are awesome
Apparently it recommends people whohave been blocked too
Be more helpful if they just eradicated the Whale
saturday is sorted now for me.
Normal Milky Bars are thin
I think these ones are thick, like a normal Dairy Milk bar.
As previously discussed, am very much in agreement
Which reminds me, it's time for a Mint Mini Feast
fail
they have, they swapped the image for a robot. morefail
i preferred the cat with a screwdriver personally
I had the robot for hours last night. I felt so much better when I evntually traded in the robot for the whal. Felt like progress
I saw that, thought it was a different fail code
Bet they did it cos it's harder to rhyme 'Robot'
:)
Micro USB chargers have been formally agreed to begin next year for smart phones
[Thought this was already signed off]
Didn't realise that tomorrow's Covent Garden Apple store opening would make it their largest
A London flagship
it opens tomorrow?
It has been commented on a few ties this week. Lou was thinking about going to check out the freebies
Indeed, and people have been queuing since yesterday thefrontline.v3.c…le-fans-begi.html
Yup
No. 1 The Piazza
No surprise there, fanboys love queueing
First 4,000 visitors get a free T shirt
odd. i heard nothing of it, skim read something today and assumed it'd be opening next year. london already has a big store.
This makes Regent St, the number 2 store now

yes, mad and in need of some psychological help...
Don't they know the internet is great if you're bored? ;)
Ooh, Saab may return to rallying
Me likey
www.autosport.com…port.php/id/85860
I saw that earlier. It's owned by Spyker now. I hope they are better at rallying than F1
Very true
At least Saab have some motorsport credentials in this area
i've cut out more than 10 mins off the joe show and it's still past the hour. there's gonna have to be a directors cut, or dvd extras methinks.
did bernie not buy it in the end? sidepodcast.com/2…tal-in-saab-deal/
Long time ago though. Must be nearly 30 years since they were competitive and they only had a front wheel drive car. They have a lot to learn even if there is anyone left who was with them then.
I also saw they were planning on using a BMW engine which is odd
A long show will be ok, Amy needs something to do on her flight here ;)
:-)
"an aside with joe: 2 DVD special edition"
Don't cut it. Let it run
Spyker own it now
:)
i missed that breakout somewhere.
Maybe you could release a special edition in a few months
I believe it's called, doing an Avatar, these days
I think there were loads of stories and loads of bidders a

Fixed
:)
Everyone commented the following day about being Bassano'd
So, yes :)
Am trying out Tweetie
Is nice but not as feature rich as Tweetdeck
The simplicity is pleasing though, as is the fact that it works
Forgot to mention
The coffee date I have tomorrow has a friend who works for Red Bull Racing
And, she appears to be quite a MotoGP fan
I'm dreading if she is already an SPC commenter
#Busted
she better be by the end of the day ;)
How can she not be?
Not while the archives are still serviceable
Maybe I'm being stalked
Again
do you think she'll need the archives? ;-)
Not when I tell her my name is Steven Roy
She'll know I'm 'from the internet' :)
Good plan for someone who's name was accidentally posted earlier in the week
No, that was a dream ;)
:D
Browsing my latest 'matches'
Some things jump out of the page
Like:
Things [insert name] can't live without - "Gin & Tonic"
:D
may need some title help, which do you prefer?
- it's touring car racing as opposed to the sex pistols
- michael schumacher is a mere beginner
it gets also my vote
I am not at all sure which one I like better
any advance on option 1?
Looks like option 2 wins
a good week for titles, rejected some other good ones too.
Option 1 I mean.
Need a preview option :D
:)
i'll record it now.
#sidepodspace
I am not going to be around for it but if anyone has noting to do tomorrow there is a spacewalk on the ISS starting around noon UK time. There is another scheduled for Tuesday.
Time I was in bed.
Good night all
Yay! Option 1 definitely the best
Hi everyone,
I always seem to arrive when Steven is talking space stuff. :)
Good night Steven

That's me done for the night, all DVDs synced to my iPod Touch. 'Night all, comment with you later.
Morning everyone :)
On my way home today!
Hmm...
Nobody about this morning...
I might sing myself a little song then:
I love side-pod-cast,
It's a b-last,
From the first comment to-oo the last,
There are guest posts,
A-nd two hosts,
O-oh Side-pod-cast,
The greatest resource on F1 ever amassed!
What tune are you singing this to? :P
I'm not sure exactly... i think it was vaguely to the tune of Don't cry for me Argentina.
I recorded a version of the song, but then realised that I didn't have a good way to share it... I've been using flickr for most things but thIs is audio and they don't do just audio I don't think. So i've started a single use drop just to get this to work... Now i'm waiting for it to upload with this rubbish reception!
:D Would LOVE to hear this.
Right so this was recorded under duress at the breakfast table with lots of people looking at me like I was insane:
http://drop.io/joj46mr/asset/memo-m4a
Ahh... We made our own entertainment back in my day!
:D Looks like F1 Debrief will have a new theme song when it makes its long-awaited return. :P
That song goes out to anyone who has ever said... "bit quiet tonight". Next time you are all alone in the comments we want to hear your SidePodEuroCastVision song.
Good Morning all.
i am at work but i have not had time to blog. But I have got my notes together so it shouldn't be hard to whip it up :D
Yes! We were looking for a new thing to replace the guest post idea.
would recommend: http://posterous.com/
however, they're down today. doh!
heheheheheheheheheheheh!!!!!!
agreed!
They gave plenty of warning though, which is something.
I am reading dailies from March to jog my memory :D
Oh dear!
apparently you were trying to get
good morrow to catch on. I dont think it did.
Oooh! I will try again :)
I quite like this one
sidepodcast.com/2…s/#comment-723740
Next week! Ha!
Clearly, I wasn't convinced :)
and you were right to be so :D
i'm still not.
work has quietened down so I've opened a word processor and my eee typing speed has rapidly increased. But I'm going home in 15 minutes, and Pamela wants to make sure I'm not embarrassing her before I send it to you :D
So, I reckon we might have something by the time everyone heads to Spa.
i was planning 3 but maybe if i dont write much i can cram it all into 1 and pad it out with photos :D
Orrr, you could write three. We've waited this long.
OK :D plan is Weds/Thurs, Fri/Sat and Sun/Mon. Why do Paul and Jeremy and Pamela get off so lightly :D
Morning all! I turned the radio on just as jenson came on it to talk about the tri... I love strange moments like that. He's on the gatwick express atm... I like the idea of him sitting on a train with normal people.
i thought jenson was sick?
you're clearly way more awesome.
Does that mean the rest of us are safe too ?
And I can hardly remember last week
clearly less awesome.
Cleary. And useless at writing stuff
Okay people. I am being very green and walking to a shop that sells food. I am commenting so you know The Outdoors hasn't got me.
I just passed a house with loads of balloons. Someone's having a birthday!
Be careful out there.
I just walked into a bush cos I was commenting. Better than a lamppost.
:D
I did that in Melbourne ( the lamppost thing )
I thought it was gonna rain so I wore a coat. No rain yet. Who knew walking was quite warm work?
you need roller skates
It's like slow running right?
You have experience
I found a pub. Is it too early?
you've been up an hour and a half!
I found a shop!
he is... he didn't sound too well. He was saying he had a prescription and was taking it easy till tomorrow. He still wants to do the tri :)
Good morning. Um, afternoon. I slept a bit.
ouch! i've walked into a person cause i was texting before.. and a bush because it was dark and i couldn't see...nothing else.. yet
'Hair of the dog' they call it when you drink with a hangover.. no idea why.. Not saying you have a hangover mind.
I was playing a game and when I finished the comments were talking about gerbils running around the moon, I figured I must have been deliriously tired.
I survived the shop. Now I have to carry my shopping home. This is a silly idea :)
:) :)
it was an important discussion.
i can't wait to read back through the comments now :)
you'll be on top of the moon.
again?.. i've only just got down :P
Yeah there is that :)
It kind of works as a money-saving feature though, you can only buy what you can carry
Just seen someone.walking down the road in what appear to be pink slippers. I wonder if they are related toEJ.
heheh!
:0
well Jenson isn't having the best season... no doubt Spa will fix that.. ;)
he's doing better than if he'd stayed with shov though.
Morning. First day of my holiday ;)
Indeed. An inspired move.
true. very true. I'm still hoping one day Shov and Jenson will be reunited as a team in some way though.
Oh no, the rain!
uh-oh! run Christine! :)
hey ya chap
hello!
Felipe Massa has twitter? http://twitter.com/Forza_Felipe
someone gave it too him. not sure he updates it himself.
Doesn't look like. Ah well, at least it's verified ;)
hello
I have returned. The rain held off. Phew.
Hello all. I am very happy as I have finally decided to try Spotify and it has Tom Lehrer! www.youtube.com/w…tch?v=m8dtquYDXEU

That's what I said when Mr C was concerned about the running time.
When do you fly?
I am home... Hurrah!
Woohoo!
5 and half hours from Devon to London... It wasn't too bad considering the rain and the worst services evah!
Sweet sweet broadband... how I have missed thee
Nelsinho sits on pole, half-way through the Nationwide qualifying at Watkins Glen. Villeneuve-ihno has not run yet. At road courses they run packs of 4-5 cars for 5 minutes or so.
the journey back is always worse than the journey down. We stopped off at Stonehenge on the way back just to give us some excitement..
.... i should really finish writing my blog post...
Welcome back Alex!
Thanks Lou... It's good to be back!
I love that feeling.
Although the internet is going slightly slowly right now because iTunes just leapt into life and downloaded 42 things!
2 weeks tomorrow. I'm shocked anyone in the comments doesn't know that! #manycountdowns
When exactly is it Amy?
This countdown to your trip doesn't take into account the hour of departure:
www.livecountdown…own.aspx?id=21601
at least 3 of my comments have mentioned that they are correct to the minute :D
This comment is being made 67 minutes after my time of departure :D
afternoon folks
Mr C sir?
Can I help?
I'll have a guest post ready for Mid-Ohio Indycar in a few minutes if that's good?
That'd be lovely :)
Is that departure from the airport, or did you include traveling to the airport too? ;)
If you're local you'll know the usual question... A303 or M4/M5? :)
I didn't realise Nationwide was there too

Got it. Thanking you.
hope that's fleshed out enough
We should really get you set up with admin access.
Could sidepodcast really handle the number of extra posts?
;)
Stonehenge is exciting? I've driven past many times and I can't see what more I'd learn from being up close that I haven't seen on telly already :) On the plus side, Thruxton is up the road..
Interesting to hear it from the opposite perspective though because for us it is always a long boring drag up to London and easier/quicker coming back!
I think everytime I have ever gone somewhere, coming home has felt quicker.
Wait, wait, I have one on that too: smarterthanyourav…ng-look-away-now/
Just went to feed Dad's cats but one was missing, here's the always-hungry one..
The plan was to finish writing a blog post when I got home while listening to the Aside, but with IRL qualifying in a minute perhaps I'll watch that..
I think so too
:D
Coming home always seems quicker to me too.
yeah!!.. although that may be cause i enjoyed getting shots of it.
i really should finish that blog post.
really? it always seems such a drag for me..
Pretty much agreed.. I do think it was impressive that they did it with their (lack of) tech. I guess all the knowledge got lost because things weren't really written down and there isn't much call to build huge monuments all the time.
On the way I'm normally trying to find where I'm going and excited about where I'm going so the journey seems like a drag because it's not being there. Then on the way home it's kind of just a formality.
Hello folks.
yo yo yo
oh.. i'm the opposite, the way there seems quicker, more exciting and all new the way back seems dull.. cause there isn't anything worth looking forward to on the way back.

Evening all,
Anyone here know anything about fishing in the UK?
hi jon
bring a rain coat...
Thanks for that ;)
It's so complicated, I found a rod in the garage and want to go when im on holiday. Turns out you need licences and permits and all sorts, I don't remember it being that complicated when I was a lad!
that does sound a bit complicated.
Anyone here know anything about fishing in the UK? {Comment #351}
It's the most popular participation sport in the UK.
Also...Fishing is the most dangerous sport in the uk. fact
erm?
fishing is the sport with the highest death rate.
really??
yup, a guy at the MSA told me.
people go fishing in a boat with a bottle of whisky etc and end up drowning.
Lots of people fall while fishing and smack their heads too
wow.
scary, its actually quite dangerous
You'd be safer strapping yourself into a drag racing car
Best place in the world to have an accident of any sort is at a Grand prix. They have every type of surgeon, doctor etc.
Oh no. Lord Drayson's car is smoking in the ALMS race :(
The gig I was supposed to be going to has been cancelled - thinking about heading to the pub
I've done 4 hours of walking on a local trail and 1 hour of swimming. Glad to just veg out in front of a computer now...
I was to do a 6-mile bike ride earlier, but just as I three on my bottoms a storm arrived
:/
Cycling at 7am tomorrow it is then
RLM criticism of Brian Barnhart - for once I agree with him
I love this story. One of the ALMS teams brought in a completely biodegradable fuel. Some other team accused them of gaining an advantage by dishonest means due to their fuel being better. The team with the biodegradable fuel replied that they would supply that fuel to the other teams (including the complainant) for nothing...
The left overs of beef too!!
:)
Mr C and / or Christine...
Hello.
Just sent an e-mail for you.
:)
Now Paul Drayson and a Porsche have collided. This really isn't Drayson's day...
All received and understood, thank you. I will get admin access sorted for you this weekend.
:)
He's getting into all sorts of incidents

joe told you the same on a recent aside podcast. that's a sid watkins line the msa have stolen, right there.
I am never walking through a dark house with Tubular Bells randomly coming on loud again.
Someone lit a fire under Fisichella since he went to GT racing, he just pushed his way past Jorg Bergmeister and you don't do that easily :)
ummm lou... you were in the room when joe told you that earlier this year: sidepodcast.com/2…the-sport-part-2/

Quite :D It's brilliant to see. He's even an outside contender for LMS GT2 champion...
Timing is showing him behind again now

How did that happen? Oh well, at this rate maybe he's better off not worrying about it yet and letting the Porsche carve a path through the GT field for him...

Evening, anyone seen Gavin?
Hi Jackie
He's on holiday
Oh blimey, I hope not .. thought it was Tuesday

I got a message left on Vav that he had left me a DM on twitter, except I didn't get it .. anyone know how to contact him?
Oh no!!!!!
Gah. I should stop making plans on a sunday. Stupid forgetful brain :(
FORK RIGHT!
:)
thank you :)
silly plans! I think plans are a bit like outdoors and are not to be trusted!
i planned my Sunday round it and everything.. (am hoping my broadband will be okay..
Film Watch ping: smarterthanyourav…ch-68-green-zone/
I hope it lives up to it... I think there might be something special for you :)
I agree, they make you forget stuff
i'm annoyed that you can publish a character cup and watch a film at the same time.
Evening all
I thought I was going to be deprived of you as I have spent the last hour trying to convince my computer that it does not have a script issue.
you can be quite convincing.
usual time is 4 right?.. i can't remember... :(
*bad memory*
If it had needed any more convincing the computer was about to get introduced to a wall.
That's scary!
We were about to watch Green Zone tonight! And then we thought it might be a bit actiony and so Katherine suggested Men who Stare at Goats or the Informant... Which you had already reviewed! But we were too tired and so in the end we watched a film we had watched before so we watched Get Shorty.
Yes 4
Steven volunteered his computer to display Sidepodcast
:)
That's a lot of Matt Damon
I struggle to take him seriously after Team America. Damn my easily amused childishness,
:D
:D :D
:D
I am secretly very proud of how many of the films you mention I have seen. I never have conversations like this!

Wow!!
F1 2010? That is so 2 days ago. This oen has a giant arm!!
:)
complete lunacy!
I think Steven has Volunteered me to go to bed... Night all!
I'm not sure if I'll be here or not. But I'm still catching up on past shows. Getting there. :)
Have you considered what to do after Z? I thought maybe a numbers show..
That and the combiantion of the afore mentioned Brian Blessed sat nav could possibly be the greatest invention known to man kind.
:)
night alex
night Steven..
Where do you stand on a John Cleese sat nav? 'Cos we'll most likely have that going to Spa. :)
i mean Alex... god this is such abad evening for me..
Really?
Spa is now going to be awesomer.
It's ok. You finally fougth off a spider, you should have time to recover
The Brian Blessed Robot Arm?
I WANT TO GRIP THIS SAMMICH HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I AM GRIPPING THIS SAMMICH!!!! I HAVE DROPPED IT NOW!!! AND NOW I AM GRIPPING A ROLL CONTAINING SAUSAGE!
Field trip! SPC meetup? They won't mind if we take turns on that thing, will they?
Ihad no idea I had that kind of power.
Night Alex
My favourite is the Mr T one. "Turn left, fool" etc.
Only problem is that it won't take you to the airport.
It's all in hand!
Right - off to the pub,
shall be back later on
:)
:D
:)
Really going now!
I thought you were sending me to bed
no supper for you!
please don't be as drunk as bassano.
see ya
;)
Oh I miss going to the pub
I haven't even been bad .... yet
Yep. Kind of depends on me getting my lighter socket fixed though.
:) :)
you should come to the prespa drinks :)
Joey Hand?
(ALMS BMW driver in the race I'm watching live now)
Cities are odd. Around here it would be about to close (or lock-in - are you going to a lock-in?)
It's all in hand!
Joey Hand?
(ALMS BMW driver in the race I'm watching live now) {Comment #456}
:D
Closing already? It's not even 11 o'clock yet.
you don't need lockin's with 24hr opening, surely?
Even before that everywhere round here was open till 3 or 4 am
Most here shut at 11. One stays until midnight and another 1am I think.
You're not helping the stereotype you know :)
Really? That is desperate
Andy got in first on that one. So I will be home with all the smalls.
It is a small town.
Maintaining the stereotype takes hard work. Late nights have been 3-4am since the 70s/80s. Few people go out much before 9 or 10
Take the kids. What could go wrong?
I'm not sure I confirmed my attendence yet.
indeedy, i could do with a lap of the park.
:D
The kids can help people get some hillclimbing fitness training
You'd have a coronary. Ds1 is faster......
:D
If he has a connery before Spa Christine will kill him
How about if it was a sean connery?
Shome mishtake shurely
Sato qualified third? I dread to think of the damage he could do at that end of the grid.

you missed an ace live thread. really good session.
I just noticed there was a thread for it. I didn't even know there was a race this weekend.
it's lucky f1 doesn't race there, i've learnt today i can't say ohio.
just think of it as disappointingly meeting someone
Oh, hi... oh...
eye-ho-oh.
it's off to work we go! *whistles*
I would not have thought it was hard but everyone has words that trip them up.
I don't think there is a lot of chance of F1 ever going there so you should be safe
!!
heheh!
All you have to do is play that backwards and you'll be fine.
I don't think there is a lot of chance of F1 ever going there so you should be safe {Comment #485}
Ohio is too exciting to be a F1 track...
i'm sure you'd learn how to say it... remember when we all had problems with Jaime's last name? (i really can't spell it...)
I just watched an absolutely superb ALMS race there. GT was crazy.
Tim is a lot easier to say than ohio :)
yup, we called him tim. lukeh, what should we called the indycar track?
Tim?
I enjoyed it too. Great coverage of the team radios, too.
ALMS and IRL on the same program?
Tom - like TIm but with an oval in the middle.
Has been for years, it was ALMS with Champ Car before that.
A track.
might be confusing when you use in a general sentence though. 'Looking forward to seeing the race at A track this weekend... what track?... a track, of course...'
Mid-Ohio doesn't have an oval
:D
I think you mean "Mid-Ohio"?
:D
I didn't realise that. I have probably watched both in the past when McNish was doing ALMS
waaiittt.... i thought indy car was all on oval tracks?...
Not since 2005
No. THey have loads of proper tracks too
well... i ... had no idea.
join us tomorrow, no oval.
Even NASCAR does some races where they turn right occasionally
Tsquigglem then.
i'm going for lunch/coffee with a friend tomorrow and will be back fro giggles radio.. is it on before giggles radio finishes?
join us tomorrow, no oval. {Comment #509}
I think I'll need to use tomorrow to recover from today...
Changed days. I remember someone being insistent that he was only interested in F1. Now he is a pusher for the IRL
oh lou, you and your time zone silliness :)
they go round the ovals anticlockwise too?
No. They visit proper circuits
look i'm having bad evening.. i hope you're all prepared for a daily full of spelling mistakes and grammatical errors! :P
Yes, although this is not a stellar track for open wheel cars. It is usually pretty parade-like. The ALMS was good because of the classes getting in each others' way creating opportunities. I guess Duno and the new Italian guy who's name I've forgotten could do that.
oh wait, it thought you said before giggles radio, which is why I was thinking 'Wouldnt that be the morning in the US?'
#readingfail
I saw a couple of those in person, it's fun because they are not good at it and they go all over the place.
There's one this week.
rubbish innit?
woah..
Shame Leigh has gone. Our work here is almost done.
*humph*
Lou,
Looks like the IRL race is 7:30pm so unless Alex goes into mega-overrun you should be able to se it
#sorrylou
So long as you write it I can put up with the odd error
right i may try watch it if my internet is up to it... i'm not a fan of oval racing but i'd happily watch racing on proper tracks..
NASCAR is at Watkins Glen where they used to have the USGP tomorrow at 6pm UK.
NASCAR is tomorrow. The USGP hasn't been there for 30 years
Hello all, I have drunk Pimms, Guinness, Tequila and Rose Wine, it is possible I am not sober. How are we all?
AMY!!!!!!!!
Nope sorry. It's the BORG on channel 4 with Picard
Hi Janna. Your typing seems sober so you can't be too drunk yet
Sadly I am one of those people who can act incredibly sober when I have drunk enough to sink an elephant. I am always the one who gets to divide up the bill at the end of the night ;).
Changed days. I remember someone being insistent that he was only interested in F1. Now he is a pusher for the IRL {Comment #514}
I remember someone being insistent that she was only interested in F1 and is now a pusher for spotscars (as well, I hasten to add). That would be me...
At least it doesn't lead to odd cryptic messages in the comments :P
I am a total lighteweight with alcohol
:D
It won't last yunno'........
Have we seen this Apple news? They have got rid of the guy that made the iPhone 4 and is the head of the iPhone/iPod area of the company
tech.fortune.cnn.…-iphone-4-is-out/
I've made it to over 40, how much longer do you think I can last :)
Ok, I'll take that back.
Mind you it's a long time since I tested my 'never get a hangover' status :)
oohh steady on, I didn't say I didn't get hungover, I just appear sober ;)
Wow that's amazing, and the guy wasn't even going full speed
It is perfectly possible to be obsessed about all forms of motorsport...
Rofl.
I can do sober online long after I'm not... Some of my best flight control scores have been after a few glasses :)
But I've never yet been hungover :&
flight control?
but probably not healthy :)
ipod game
Of course not
oh.
pinning chrome tabs is rather handy, why do i learn this now?
...woah!!!
As in woah I didnt know too till you mentioned it...
so useful.
always getting lost in tubs when trying to photoshop, that is useful!
responsible for far too much timewasting....
of course, it's the tabs I worry about most
:)
Look what I found
picasaweb.google.…s/Osterreichring#
Not as much as Angry Birds though
Interesting. Looks like they finally sorted out the local problems
good find!
Ooooh!
Hope so. It might not hold F1 again but if it comes back for something like DTM then I'll be happy.
is it weird that the pit building looks just like the redbull energy station?
Mateschitz was behind the upgrade of the track. Not sure if he still is
aww I miss the a1 ring even with it's rubbish rubens connotations. Sure it wasn't the old ostereichring but I still liked the track.
years of ignorant bliss not knowing it was a tilke track and everything.
Mm!
I was just looking for some old pics to compare it to and found this report.. Didn't quite happen this way!
www.formula1.com/…s/2003/5/312.html
THe A1 Ring may not have been a great track but every year it provided great racing
i like that the run to turn one is still recognisable.
I would love to see modern drivers and cars on the old Oesterreichring. That would shake up a few egos
Is that yamamoto at the back?
The last corner too. It might even be the same tarmac, it looks old.
:) :) :) :)
:)
Didn't realise you could click the f1.com image, that's a Minardi and probably Alex Yoong..
Despite the Schumi reign I miss that era.
It also makes me laugh that, 8 years ago, Toyota look exactly the same as they did last year
PING: sidepodcast.com/2…-8th-august-2010/
You have to think if they already have some tyre barriers in place they are not far from putting cars on it.
Technically so do Ferrari and McLaren, of sorts :)
Sad that they don't use that track anymore...
